[...isolation of the transformation appears to worsen the standard disorientation of a new body. I believe that the familiarity of the upper body may be offsetting the psychological impact of the lower body - as not everything has changed, the subject still "expects", on some level, that their body will work similarly, despite radical changes to organ systems and locomotion and the near-total overhaul of the centre of gravity.]
[The subject appears to be leaning on hexapodal motion as a type of "crutch", despite the size of the lower body making most of these sorts of motions awkward at best - the tournament venue doesn't currently have many internal spaces sufficient to test this one's mobility, but outdoors venues seem more promising for testing, anyways. This confirms something that I've previously suspected, as well - subjects find it more difficult to adjust to addition of new limbs than they do subtraction of limbs.]
[Subject appears to exhibit difficulty with coordination in the lower limbs, and has adopted an extremely "cautious" form of motion, taking steps with one limb at a time. The difference between upper and lower limbs means that this mode of movement is extremely... clumsy, to say the least. I intend to keep them under observation for a few more days before release and see if this resolves within the initial settling period or not. After that, just some periodic check-ins should be...]
Hello, and welcome to: watercolor paintings for Round 2 of @bug-oc transmutations! Mirach by @ghost-of-hallownest. Some extra details under cut because this is a long post and we don't want to make it longer.
This one is based pretty heavily on Dragon!Falin from Dungeon Meshi, but we're bringing through some lizard-y aspects from last year, and very much having fun with the tabby-cat patterns on the back - though technically speaking, Mirach's blue is limited to her wings, adding some markings to the body helps us break up that big plane of sandy yellows and add some interest to the design. We think it turned out well!
If we could fit it in, we'd add a third bit of Marigold notes related to the actual transmutation method, since it's been living in our brain for a while, and we think our Potion Drawing might be a bit... abstract, otherwise?
More or less, the weave - the active transmutation medium - is woven to the inside of the lasso's... lasso, and upon encircling something with it, the weave is transferred to the target, thus making the lasso fall apart entirely as a major component of its structure abruptly ceases to be part of the object.
This transfer-and-break is the same general method through which most of Marigold's "one-use" charms work - as the effect is now tied to the target's body, rather than an object, it simply remains in effect until the weave "wears in" to the body entirely, shifting it from an effect active on the subject to a part of the subject's body.
This means that, before the effect is fully integrated into the body, it can be broken, though as with all charmcraft some effects may still linger. This also makes it so, technically, the charmcraft only casts an effect on the caster - the same effect through which pretty much all Medals work - rather than being a direct interface a la wiring it directly into the bug's body, which is illegal and what Marigold spends a lot of time tiptoing around to produce major effects on a bug's body without the single most useful method for bodily alteration Charmcraft has to offer.
...that was longer than we really expected it to be. We are working on the other contestants, both of this round and the last, though it's going very slowly seeing as the afternoon sun is currently hot enough to melt our brain into a fine sludge. We've got a solid idea of all three other Round 2 designs, and we've finally got a sketch for Mal - though Pola is being delayed, still, due to our poor comics-making decisions. We're working on it! Slowly!
If we could figure out how in the hell to represent it visually, we'd be working on making a loser's bracket, too, but as is... listen, we're not a graphics designer for a reason. If you are a graphics designer and we can outsource designing a loser's bracket to you then please contact us. We have a budget of approximately ten dollars. We can do PayPal but if your payment processor of choice is US-exclusive we cannot help you.

The Great Square of Pegasus // Ireneusz Nowak
Read below the cut for some info about some of the stars in this image as well as an annotated image to guide the eye!
Starting with Pegasus first, in order of brightness:
Scheat (β Pegasi) is a red giant star that forms the upper right corner of the Great Square. It is about 196 light years away and has swelled to over 100 times the size of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase Al Sā'id meaning "the upper arm".
Markab (α Pegasi) is a blue-white star located about 133 light years away, marking the lower right corner of the Great Square. Its name comes from an Arabic word markab meaning "the saddle of the horse".
Algenib (γ Pegasi) is a blue subgiant star about 470 light years away and marks the lower left corner of the Great Square. It has a mass of about 9 times that of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word al-jānib meaning "the flank".
Matar (η Pegasi) is a yellow-white star about 196 light years away. It is a binary system, with the primary being about 25 times larger than the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase Saʽd al Maṭar meaning "lucky star of rain".
Homam (ζ Pegasi) is a blue star about 204 light years away. It is only about 4 times as large as the Sun, but is emitting over 200 times the light. The origin of the name is unclear, but it likely comes from the Arabic phrase Sa'd al Humam meaning "lucky star of the hero."
Sadalbari (μ Pegasi) is a yellow giant star about 113 light years from Earth and is about 9 times the size of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase saʿd al-bāriʿ meaning "the lucky star of the splendid one."
ι Pegasi is a binary star system about 39 light years away. The primary is a yellow-white star about the mass of the Sun but 1.5 times the size.
λ Pegasi is a yellow giant star about 365 light years away. It is about 1.5 times the mass of the Sun, but over 28 times the size of the Sun.
Next up are the few stars in Andromeda, in order of brightness:
Alpheratz (α Andromedae) is a binary star system that forms the upper left corner of the Great Square. The primary is a blue-white star with about 3.5 times the mass of the Sun. The entire system is located about 97 light years from Earth. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase surrat al-faras meaning "navel of the horse".
Mirach (β Andromedae) is a red giant star about 200 light years from Earth. It is only about 2.5 times as massive as the Sun, but has swelled to over 85 times that of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word mīzar meaning "girdle".
δ Andromedae is a triple star system about 105 light years from Earth. The primary is a orange giant star about the mass of the Sun, but about 13 times the size.
μ Andromedae is a blue-white star about 130 light years from Earth. It is about twice the mass and three times the size of the Sun.
ν Andromedae is a binary star system about 620 light years from Earth and appears very close to the Andromeda Galaxy on the sky. The primary is a blue star about six times as massive as the Sun.
Finally, two stars in Pisces:
ν Piscium is a binary star system about 365 light years away. The primary is an orange giant star about 1.6 times the mass of the Sun with almost 35 times the size.
τ Piscium is an orange giant star about 169 light years away. It is slightly more massive than the Sun, but 10 times the size.

Bug Fables OC Tournament Round 2
Hessi (she/her) from @flame-shadow
Hessi is a friendly scientist who loves pursuing her passions and encouraging others to do so too! She works in a lab with other creative bugs as they explore the world around them and find ways to make changes and improvements. Hessi is good with machines and is currently working on safe means of flight for flightless bugs (she’s trying to build jetpacks).
When she’s not in the lab, she’s hanging out with her friends and/or partners. Maybe going on a hike or to a new restaurant in the nearby town or just chillin’ and chattin’ in her room late into the night.
She cares a lot in so many ways and will step in to defend bugs who are being mistreated or stand up for those who can’t make themselves heard. She doesn’t like resorting to violence, but she will if she absolutely has to. Luckily, it rarely comes to that.
Also, if you vote for Hessi, you get a free hug, kiss, or high-five from her as thanks.
Mirach (she/they) from @ghost-of-hallownest
Born to a farming family in the golden settlement, Mirach is the eldest of her siblings and helps her folks out on their aphid farm. When not on the farm, they’re usually out helping the community with day-to-day tasks or hanging out with their bestie, Cypherus.
Mirach is quite head strong and has a strong sense of justice which often results in her getting into fights she isn’t able to finish, leading to Cypherus having to bail them out. While her skills in fighting are lackluster, she is incredibly resourceful and their quick thinking has often gotten them outta a tight spot.
Mirach dreams of traveling one day but feels responsible to take care of the farm, for now, she’ll settle for Cypherus’ stories about his time outside of Bugaria

Drew my friend's Dungeon Meshi kobold OCs :)
Bellini (she's not really a kobold) belongs to @dayundying, Cherry belongs to @chaospikes and Mirach belongs to @fumifooms
Drawing in this lineless style is pretty fun, I recommend trying it.
+ since I'm posting my lineless art, I'm adding Emile's reference too! That's my own kobold OC. Here's a link to his ToyHouse (still under construction) if you want to know more about him :)

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31, lower right) and Mirach (β Andromedae, upper left) // Pavel Vorobiev
The star Mirach (β Andromedae) is a solitary red giant star about 200 light years from Earth. It is about 2.5 times the mass and 85 times the size of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word mīzar meaning "girdle" as it marks the left hip of the princess Andromeda.
The Andromeda Galaxy, meanwhile, is much further away at about 2.5 million light years distant!
