Alessi,

It's been a year since you were taken away, but it feels like lifetimes. The estate is so quiet without you and your laughter and mischief. So often I had to scold you for drawing on the walls or talking back to your tutors or for getting your silks all muddy while playing in the garden. Now I would give anything to see you again, mud and all.

I won't lie Alessi, of all the gifts your father has ever given me, you are by far my greatest treasure. Perhaps it was naive of me to believe that he would ever permit an exception for you, and that he would allow you to remain in Antiva. I've certainly begun to remember how much of a difference you made in our relationship. I remember fretting when his affections first waned after your first nameday. I was afraid of being just like all the rest, a casual dalliance of no real interest. And perhaps I was, but you Alessi? Oh you made it so very worth it. Every day spent watching you grow and flourish has been a privilege beyond measure. Your first drawing is still one I cherish deeply, and I keep close to my heart wherever my work takes me. You reinvigorated my passions, showed me a whole new way of looking at the world, and my love for art grew ever more as I watched your own blossom.

I hope that, if nothing else, you will keep that passion with you Alessi. I hold no illusions of ever seeing you again or even being able to send this to you. The Crows are so very particular about family - any you have from before is to be dead to you, so that you will only ever need them. But I am not dead, Alessi, and you are in my thoughts every day that you are gone. If the Crows are to be your calling and your family, then I wish you the best. I pray you find those you can trust and call family, who will stand by you even in hard times.

And if that man ever gives you a hard time simply for being his sister, I will haunt him from the Fade myself.

I pray we meet again, mi amor, in happier times.

With Christmas break fast approaching, here are some must-watch movies that have been released in theaters or on Netflix from the month of December and movies that you may have missed from November:

WEST SIDE STORY (December 10)

This is a  remake of the movie musical of the same name from 1961. See what it is like to be in America in the late 50s in this retelling of Romeo and Juliet. This movie tells the tale of rival gangs in New York City and the star-crossed lovers left in the middle of the conflict, but with added music and choreography.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17)

This is the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spiderman trilogy. Spiderman has to deal with the aftermath of Spider-Man: Far From Home with the help of Doctor Strange. Suddenly, something goes wrong and the two now have to face off against villains from the multiverse. Only in theatres.

Sing 2 (December 22)

The vocally gifted animals of the first movie are preparing to open their new show. While this is happening, Buster Moon, the leader of the show, is trying to convince a rock legend to join them. i’m rereading a murder of crows right now and just got hit in the chest with the irony of this exchange:

“She is my daughter,” she whispered hoarsely. “I won’t lose her because of some petty rivalry between Crows.”

“If you lose her, it is because she has made a decision,” Viago pressed, feeling his temper rising.

and like. viago’s current predicament. so worried he’ll lose her to crow infighting if she and lucanis get together. Rational Man tried to reason away ricci’s fear borne of love, and now that exact fear has taken root in him and he’s in a complete tailspin

ANYWAY i love every second of it. your viago is so perfect and he lives in my brain rent free

I'm honestly having so much fun putting this man through the emotional wringer of having Emotions that he's in no way equipped to deal with, and having to learn how to actually have healthy relationships with people who aren't Teia

and Mirabelle is so beloved to me, you have no idea, her fingerprints are all over Alessia and Viago has to deal with that fact despite only ever having one conversation with her >:)

8. What makes Rook a good leader?

Partly it comes from being groomed as Viago's successor to House de Riva. She was taught how to manage a household and to lead and coordinate a team as well as an entire house. It provided her a solid place to start, which Varric helped her develop further during the year they spent travelling together.

As a person, she's always working to be someone dependable who gets things done and can be relied on. She's also picked up some tricks from Teia about people, how you need to get a sense of where they're at and trying to meet them where they are, all while maintaining control of the situation. It's not exactly one-to-one with where she ends up in the Veilguard, but the skills she learned from Teia have been instrumental in her success at leading the team.

12. Does Rook have any family? Do they keep in touch?

As a bastard daughter of King Fulgeno, she technically has a lot of family. The King for one, and her mother, a painter named Mirabelle Ricci who was his mistress and a popular artist up until her death when Alessia was sixteen.

And of course she has Viago, who's her older half brother - the age gap is about nineteen years - and while they didn't get along at all at first, there's a strong bond between them. It's hit a rough patch since she went after the Antaam, and things are tense for a while, but they maintained contact and eventually end up making up... and maybe even acknowledge how fucked up they really are

20. What’s it like to see them smile? Their laugh?

Assan being a goofy lil guy and pestering Davrin, Manfred's expanding repertoire of words (she definitely didn't burst out laughing when he dropped his first F bomb and nearly killed Emmrich, definitely not), and winding up Viago at every available opportunity. Honestly, whenever she and the team are allowed to just be a lil silly.
