Why does Sephiroth have such a huge pauldron on his outfit?

When and why did he happen to wear the soldier outfit without a shirt and with the straps.... uhhh forming an X idk how to say it

I have this stupid headcanon that the SOLDIER uniform protocol mandates that straps must be visible regardless of rank. So when someone wears a coat, the straps have to be crossed to be visible—hence Genesis and Sephiroth wear them like that.

The pauldrons are similar to the one Miniroth wears with his uniform, so I'm guessing that's the type he prefers, and they just got bigger and bigger as he grew into a tank (with Shinra having a hand in making him look huge).

As for Sephiroth's lack of shirt, I write it as multiple layers being sensory hell for him, so he likes breathable clothes that allows him to perform better in combat. He opts out of the turtleneck because the coat and harness cover most of his torso. Shinra greenlit this choice mainly because it highlights his attractiveness and sells.

*Angeal is looking at his new uniform in the mirror right after making 1st Class*

Angeal: Hm. The uniform is good enough on its own. I don't need to add anything to it.

*Genesis saunters in with his red coat*

Angeal: You have got to be kidding me.

Genesis: Isn't it eye-catching? Isn't it vibrant? The only way Sephiroth could outshine me now is if he were to fight naked.

Do you think we will get playable Angeal and Genesis in FS ep. 2? In ep. 1 we got Matt, Lucia, and Glenn.

Surely, Square will give us Babygeal and Tinygen as playable characters.

I'm betting on playable Angeal. There's no way he's not included.

As for Genesis...we still don't know if/when he'll be present in the story. I THINK he will be. After all, that would complete the third character slot that would be open in the event that Angeal and Miniroth are featured. And it would open up the possibility for seasonal events that DON'T just feature the OG cast. Genesis is a polarizing character. But this is their shot to flesh him out and make him more appealing to a wider audience. I really hope they use him.

Watching as Shinra employees leave early, carrying bright packages he doesn't understand. Hojo muttering about maintaining schedules regardless of "pointless holidays." Extra training scheduled specifically today to prevent distractions. No concept of gifts or celebration. Just another day of being a specimen.

Vs.

Sephiroth spending Christmas with Genesis and Angeal. Warm light from the oven as they check on the food. Genesis insisting they all wear the matching sweaters he bought. Laughter as they set up their Christmas tree. The rich smell of Angeal's dumbapple pie baking. Mulled wine lulling them into a raw kind of comfort. Carefully wrapped presents. Genesis reading holiday poems. Angeal plating their food and insisting they eat more. Just three friends who formed their own family. Understanding for the first time what a real Christmas means.

Vs.

Sephiroth spending Christmas alone after they're gone. Empty quarters with no decorations. A single wine glass from a bottle Genesis bought long ago, tasting even more bitter on an empty stomach. Knowing exactly what he's missing now. Angeal's cooking recipes untouched, tucked in an old poetry book that used to belong to Genesis. Understanding too well why people dread being alone on Christmas. The knowledge of warmth making the cold bite sharper. Two neatly wrapped presents bought early, a year prior when he still had people to give them to.
