I really wish I took a before picture but I repainted this Kirby keychsin that is several years old and had most of the original color scraped off it. I think it turned out pretty good!

Back from my summer hiatus with a new mini painting of Kirby as a cat 💖✨️ Tomorrow's Today's the first day of school here and I'd like to wish a good school year to all who start or just got back from the summer break.

If you've followed my stories, you could have seen some new drawings that feature some anime-like characters. I've taken some time to study drawing human portraits and eventually full body characters, and the biggest thing I've learned is that references are the key to making your drawing better.

While I understood the references as an existing help tool, I used to believe that "true" artists don't need those and that if you were any good, you could create anything just by using your imagination. Unless you've spent years and years looking and drawing from references, the chance is almost 0 you'll be able to make anything decent without them. I'm glad I remembered that and now I'm here to share this ancient wisdom with you. 🤪

In other, more private news, I'm happy to announce I'll be starting a new job in October where I'll be able to put my creative skills into some good use. 💃🏼

I was looking through your posts about Kirby and wondered something. You said that you don't buy that the extra modes for the games are canon. Where would the events fit in the timeline?

I think you meant that I don't buy that the extra modes are non-canon. I do think that they *are* canon.

I'm personally not willing to dismiss anything that is present within the text of the source material as non-canon without good reason. The mini games like Samurai Kirby are clearly set in a different continuity for the sake of an optional bit of gameplay that is devoid of story, so those can be dismissed. But I don't see any reason to dismiss the likes of Meta Knightmare. They're just more representative than they are literal, since they are predicated entirely on full blown asset reuse lol. It's like how in Sonic Adventure, Sonic Knuckles and Tails all fight Chaos 4 by themselves in their own story modes. Which one is "canon"? They all are. They all happened. But you also have to paint in broad strokes a little bit since the events as depicted literally by the game are incompatible with each other.

Anyway I actually did make a Kirby timeline

I put Meta Knightmare Ultra as taking place after Amazing Mirror. All the other extra game modes I'd say just happen within the context of their individual games placement in the timeline. Meta Knightmare happens within the context of Kirby's Adventure. Dededetour happens within the context of Triple Deluxe. Meta Knightmare Returns happens within the context of Planet Robobot. And so on.

Talking about kagero mansion

I remember I had a idea of a Kirby being dragged into a trap by a original villain which used a artifact (implied to have been given to him by necrodeus) to shut the puffball’s mouth, so Kirby has to destroy the artifact and escape the mansion which is a floating piece of debris on a deserted spooky planetoid, but since is a Kirby game he’ll be helped by a ghost girl who is cursed to stay on the mansion (she’ll give tips about the puzzles)

The game would have been purely about puzzles, some mini games and chases with there only being 4 kinds of enemies and 3 bosses

The walking alarms:tamed beasts which will reveal Kirby’s location if they see them, if Kirby can take out the enemy or scape before the alarm starts then the main villain will appear and chase Kirby

Flying alarms:same has the walking but they can fly

Dirt monsters:they will only walk side to side and can only damage kirby on contact, they are has dangerous has a waddle dee but without their ability’s or the ability to regain health then Kirby would be in serious danger. You can use candles and other items to hit them which destroys them pretty quickly

Bombing skulls:when they notice Kirby they will fly towards their position not stopping till they reach a wall or similar causing them to explode, they are a pretty weak hazard but they are there to be a more active threat to Kirby

The villain (I don’t wanna give he’s name since I thought about this game has a sequel to another game in which this villain appears so If you want to know he’s name then I should tell you about that other game and this ask is getting too long):being able to run on the ceiling, smash walls and jump very high, it will chase Kirby with a axe destroying everything in its path. It’ll won’t insta kill Kirby but it does a great amount of damage

The bosses are

Unagiza:a giant monstruos Eel known has the most dangerous creature of the entire planet for its extremely strong skin which will chase down Kirby in a underwater level, kirby then has to make the Eel destroy some pillars in a circle arena like the ones on robobot to make the ceiling fall on a pool the eel is coming out of making the ceiling to crushing the eel although it survives but kirby run away before it woke up

Kagero-san:the owner of the mansion which is attacking Kirby because the villain has been talking how he would free him of he’s curse chaining him with the mansion if he kills kirby, kirby has to use a candle to light up some ropes to burn the painting Kagero uses has a avatar meanwhile Kirby Dodges flying furniture Kagero throws at Kirby, every time you burn the painting it causes the floor to fall forcing some parkour, and some dirt monsters will start to appear. Once it burns the mansion will start to burn as well and it will be a clock which every time it reaches Zero the main villain will appear

The villain:once you reach the artifact which ends up being a clock the first phase is pure survival dodging he’s axe,arrows and the alarms he summons which now attack, the second the ghost girl will give Kirby items and plataforms to have more space to escape, in the third face she destroys the clock allowing Kirby to absorb enemies she summons (is basically that one phase of Magolor of Kirby using súper copy ability’s) after the villain is defeated he’s absorbed by one of the portals of the ghost girl, the mansion crumbles down but kirby survives and sees how the mansion rebuilds itself

Through the game there’s several secret rooms with lore talking about “a man making a deal with a sinister undead in exchange of inmortality, he tries to trick the skeleton so he wouldn’t have to make he’s part of the deal but the man’s spirit got chained to the house by the horned skull which also took all the light of the world and unleashed a rampaging beast on the flooded tombs under the mansion which was the only part which wasn’t cursed,this curse prevented anyone without he’s permit to get inside the mansion but even then the beast will attack anyone it finds, accidentally the skeleton also cursed the man’s daughter so out of pity he told her how only someone with a pure soul will be able to free her

Eventually both man and daughter forget who they are, the man only remembers he’s wish to be free while the daughter only keeps her compassion”

In this same secret areas there’s some soul pieces which if you collect they’ll give you a secret ending with the ghost girl being freed of her curse and being Able to leave the mansion

Sorry if I’m annoying but I just wanted to share my brain rot of a kirby horror game

NAH DW MAN THIS IS actually pretty spot on 😳 it's got enough kirby vibes to potentially be a kirby game!

Also the element levels still being kept despite it taking place in a mansion.....really brings out that SUPERNATURAL vibe.

The ending though...MAN FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS REALLY HAVE IT TOUGH IN THE KIRBY UNIVERSE :')

Are Nintendo's Licenses Suited For Film?

Zelda - No.

This opinion I’m actually going to use for a lot of them and that’s because with Mario, there were already cartoons and blueprints other than the gaming franchise, with Zelda, there was a little known cartoon and the CDi games but the main antagonizer here is the silent protag, I can't see him talking, you put yourself in his shoes and solve the puzzles yourself. You don't get that gratification from a movie unless it's like "Oh, that's clever" or the movie itself is a puzzle.

Metroid - No.

Taking that silent protag (for most games) to the next level with her really being the only human most of the time. They “could” potentially add Federation members like they did Other M but is that the true Metroid experience that we’ve been wanting? What about the isolation? I see it going every which way. Even if they keep the Federation out, I can’t see a celebrity voice play Samus, I just can’t and then making the aliens talk, some “could” be fine, like maybe Ridley but imagine Samus having an animated companion like a talking Metroid or Deemer with a deep voice. *ugh* 

Pikmin - Yes.

Imagine a mini man crashed on a planet where he has to learn to live off the land in huge proportions, learning to farm and take care of these strange aliens. Enough said, this speaks for itself, there's so many plots I could come up with. The freight company could want Olimar to bring the Pikmin back with him but that would be taking them out of their habitat. Just so good.

F-Zero - Yes.

Racing is pretty easy and I could see a lot being done with the tracks and speeders and tech and atmosphere. There was an anime that was well liked but this series was never popular enough with anything thus far. It doesn't even all have to revolve around racing that way though because most people know Cap from Smash Bros anyway, have some fights.

Animal Crossing - Maybe.

Simply because the characters are recognizable, therefore people will like to see them and their personalities. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot that I can come up with for that, if it was Harvest Moon even, I'd set up a compelling love story but this one is kind of beyond me as to a plot. It had a short little anime special but that's not really anything to go by. Maybe it's about crushing debt and finding ways to make money.

Splatoon - Yes.

I think it’s going to miss an essential value to the games but really, it’s a game of factions and that’s something that could work. One side maybe octopus and another side Squid, then balancing the line between kid and squid, aka soldier in a war of paint. I kinda love it. 

Kirby - Maybe.

It wouldn’t be hard to make it if they go the route the cartoon did, which has some fans, but I didn’t say it would be a good movie, I just said it wouldn’t be hard. Kirby is very simplistic and his games resemble that with their short length, I just can't see this story giving me anything I haven't seen before.

Arms - Yes.

One of Nintendos more recent IPs and while it has the sports flavor, that's kind of what separates it from the rest here. It has style. It has distinct characters. It has possibilities with its world and the different arms that they switch out, easily an anime one-up, imagine Megalo-Box but with this. It's almost their version of Street Fighter, like the day time Chun Li who takes on the role as a cop but goes off to participate in fighting at night. Min-Min the noodle shop worker trying to make enough money to keep her story open but not to damage her brand, so she wears a mask.

Star Fox - Yes.

These ones talk so we don’t have that issue, in fact I don’t see why this hasn’t been done already when it’s been rumored to be in the works time and time again in various different ways that all sound appealing. My only hope with these sci-fi franchises that have to do with spaceships is that they don’t try and do the Ratchet and Clank thing where we see an origin story where all the guy wants to be a great pilot or prodigy. Make McCloud cool from the get-go, it doesn't have to be a humbling story, just show off some cool tricks! Neat planets, heck, some dinosaurs wouldn't even be too out of the realm of possibility, could you imagine? Even a series would do this one good, making mini-ops to help the planets.

Kirby 64 was a bit better than I had thought it would be, given its age and the series' track record involving forced collectibles up to this point (side eyes Dreamland 3). I think what helps it is a very charming art style that actually works on the old N64 hardware, in addition to the ability to combine any two power ups together to make new abilities.

Adeleine, Waddle Dee, Dedede and Ribbon make for a cute batch of little companions for Kirby on his adventure throughout the cosmos. They were just present enough throughout the course of the game to feel like they were there the whole time, while at the same time they never overstayed their welcome when it came to their gimmicks and the game had plenty of room to let the littlest pink ball of joy and happiness spread his wings and soar.

The Crystal Shard collecting, as I was properly warned about before hand, was more annoying than it ever felt rewarding. Some required power ups you couldn't even get in that stage (and good luck magically knowing what those paint colors on the breakable walls mean), some were just... there, and some would appear in places where you had to do shit like 'Pick-a-Door' where you would be harshly punished for not being clairvoyant (or using save states religiously). Seriously, I shouldn't be punished for beating a mini boss by immediately dropping me down into the next area without warning before I can pick up a Shard, it's just bad game design in a game that otherwise oozes charm.

I can definitely see, however, why Crystal Shards has such a dedicated, vocal fan base who love it all these decades later. Even when I got irritated at the game I was still having fun, and I just kept having trouble keeping a smile off my face the whole time playing through it. With this I just have 4 mainline and 2 (3) more Kirby games to play this year for my Kirbython 2023 to be completed. (Amazing Mirror, Squeak Squad, Star Allies, Forgotten Land) (Rainbow Curse, Mass Attack) (I’m still debating on if I want to even bother finishing Tilt n’ Tumble) As someone who played the og GB game to death as a little girl (and also put in a healthy amount of time on Adventure as well back in the day), but just...never really finished many Kirby games throughout the years; it’s been an absolute joy and a blast to go through all of these Kirby games (most of them for the first time). (I meant to x-post my little ‘reviews’ here on Tumblr before now as well as on my forum that I hang out in but I kinda just, well, forgot. Another one of my all time inspiration is Rensaven! I love their style sooo much!! The simplity has me on a chokehold also THEIR ANIMATIONS!?
