Man I feel so bad for newjeans cause after observing their career for what? Two years since they debuted? I came to the general conclusion that min heejin was one of the most insufferable people in kpop but seemed to at least have that under control enough to do right by the girls for the time being (even if the reasoning was that she saw them as an extension of her own genius rather than caring about them as people) but no turns out like from the minute they blew up she was planning to try fist fight the parent company they’re under like come on 😭

question for you, but also just krakenblr in general: favorite aspects/headcanons of the goalie nesting trope? I've been Researching (reading a very wide variety of fic to see what the general interpretation is) and the conclusion I'm coming to is that it really varies 😂

HI I AM SORRY FOR THE DELAY it has not been a good few weeks for health and ability to think clearly BUT ABOUT GOALIE NESTING:

Honestly, I think most people thinking about and writing about goalie nesting are making it up as we go! The idea that goalies can go feral and require a Safe Place and maybe it's their net or maybe it's a bed is a really fun one for anyone who loves goalies, because there are a few things that are universal among goalies:

Pucks do not belong in the net.

The crease is MINE, GTFO NOW.

If I'm left out to dry I reserve the right to go after the defensemen with a knife.

Whatever went wrong, everyone is going to blame me.

After a good game, I deserve praise, headbonks, and hugs.

BUT ALSO there is such a huge amount of protectiveness toward goalies that, between that and the headbonks, it seems like they need extra special caretaking! (You'll hear a lot of Canadian hockey players saying that they've been told ever since they can remember that you never, ever, EVER let someone run your goalie, and I don't like much about the TBL, but that one time when someone ran at Vasilevskiy and all five skaters on the ice immediately dropped their gloves and tackled the other team did win my respect.)

There are a few headcanons for goalie nesting that seem to be fairly universal, such as goalies growling or chirping when they're feral, often needing their teams' jerseys, and skaters being a little bit terrified of them. That's about it as far as I can tell, and there's so much less goalie nesting fic than I'd like!

For the Kraken, I've enjoyed the notion that it was harder for them to start nesting because of being an expansion team, so it was hard for everyone to get used to each other. I also love the idea that since Joey Daccord comes from a family tradition of goaltending, he might have started nesting at 12, gathering up his stuffed animals and guarding them with a mini goalie stick in his room. (Aww!) And given what Grubauer does when someone takes too many liberties in his crease, I imagine he's a really territorial goalie. 😂 But I would love to hear more ideas about goalie nesting!

Birthday soup

Don’t forget to get silly w it. That’s like, required. It’s your BIRTHDAY (or someone else’s birthday) you deserve to get silly.

I stole this from my mom btw, also make sure you know the difference between a herb and a spice.

Oh yeah also it includes soup dumplings.

Kitchen items:

Big pot w a lid

Cutting board

Knife

Ingredients:

2 tbls Butter

1pkg Stew beef (or chicken hearts, that’s the original ingredient I just don’t like em)

2 medium onions, one diced, one quartered (keep separate)

1 whole head of garlic, minced (jarlic works very well here)

3 cups of stock (beef if you use beef, veggie if you use chicken, do not use chicken stock it fucks up the taste)

3 medium carrots, chopped

2 medium potatos, chopped

1 celery stick, chopped

1/4 head of cabbage, chopped (optional, I just like cabbage an unreasonable amount)

1 whole package of frozen spinach, defrosted (do this in a bowl this shit is WET also keep the water)

Can of green beans (you could probably use fresh, I don’t like fresh tho so, idk)

Can of diced tomatoes

Rosemary

Thyme

Fennel

Mustard seed

Celery seed

Sprinkle of Cloves (ground)

Sprinkle of Nutmeg

5% Vinegar or lemon juice (or your favourite other edible acid, tomato juice would in theory work, lime juice is mid.)

Salt + pepper

1 tbls Paprika

Steps:

Butter in that pot, medium

Spices, add em, leave ‘em until they smell good, it won’t be long.

Beef and a splash of your acid in that pot, cook until 1/4 done

Carrot and celery in that pot, get em hot but don’t cook em too long.

Diced onion, spinach, and paprika + salt n pepper to taste in that pot, med-low

Stir, cover, leave it alone for 5ish minutes

Uncover, add garlic to that pot, cook until it smells like garlic

Stock + the canned bean and frozen spinach water, add it.

Canned tomato, add it.

Potato, add it.

Cabbage, add it.

All them herbs, add em to taste (I use roughly a tablespoon each of em dried, but I like my shit strong.)

Bring it to boil on high

Let that bitch simmer, you may need to periodically add water if he’s goin too hard. (START MAKING THOSE SOUP DUMPLINGS RN IF YOURE DOING THAT)

When the potato is 1/2 done that quartered onion (and the dumplings)

Finish the potato.

Bam. Soup. I like it more cold, but it is intended to be eaten hot.

Soup dumplings

I stole this from my roommate and add em to most soups tbh

Kitchen items:

Bowl,

Wood spoon,

Your Hands,

You could probably do this in a stand mixer but I don’t have one of those so, you’re on your own man.

Ingredients:

2 cups Flour

Water, hot as you can handle touching, volume required varies,

Salt

Pepper

Onion powder

Garlic powder

Whatever fresh herbs you like (dried don’t work here unless they’re ground absolutely tiny)

1 tbls of your favourite liquid fat (I use olive oil, canola and sunflower also work for sure)

Steps:

Flour, into the bowl

Seasonings, into the bowl

Mix well.

Add the fat

Slowly add water, mixing often until you get a slightly sticky ball.

Knead for a bit, I don’t really know how to describe the texture bc I’ve been making bread since I was a kid (and this is just a yeastless bread dough) but its finished when it stops really sticking to your hands (it’ll be tacky, not sticky)

Divide into 1 inch balls

Drop into the soup roughly 30 minutes before it’s finished.

Serve in the soup

Congrats, soup balls.

Somehow, even though I haven't watched in years - and am 0% tempted to tonight - I've still got this tiny sliver of anxiety about the ending of The Blacklist. Is that crazy? It's like I know they can't possibly wrap up the story in a way I'll be happy or satisfied with (and after the 8th season I mostly gave up caring about what happens in "canon")...and yet I'm sure when I hear about what happened in the finale it's going to feel like one last, poorly written gut punch.

Hiya, anon ❤️ Ugh, can I just say that you summed up my tangle of feelings absolutely perfectly? 🥺 More specifically, no, that is not crazy at all. I am in the same place as you with not caring about any of it anymore - not since 8.22 ripped my fucking heart out - & I literally can't think of anything I'd like to do less than watch the series finale. But even in the years since 8.22, there was still that awareness that the show was still out there somewhere, even if I only heard drips & drabs, & I scoffed at it all, & I didn't give a tiny rat's ass what happened. And while that remains true, the fact that it's OFFICIALLY ending (despite the fact that it ended for us two years ago) is... a little sobering. For me, I think it's a reminder of the pain & grief of The Terrible Awful™️ 😓

Also, yes, anon, I completely understand the sliver of anxiety & dread... I felt the same thing when I heard that they were finally blessedly cancelled & again when I realized the last ep was coming up... I can only speak for myself, but I think it's bc I still care at least a little about Red &, deep down, I still want a happy ending for him, even though I fully believe he can't have one without Liz. But I have zero faith in TPTB & I'm sure they will make it a nebulous, "cool" ending with no real answers, like always, or they'll confirm godforsaken R*darina, or they'll just kill off Red because they're incapable of writing anything else. And I'm sure every other aspect of it will be disappointing, like Ressler being the hero or something (LMFAO) & it will be awful all around. I have no other expectations & I suppose I have to either accept it and/or ignore whatever happens AND/OR consider it all a crap AU & Lizzington as our canon. But the way you describe it, "one last, poorly written gut punch", perfectly describes how I feel. I tell myself that none of it matters anymore - it's not like we're getting a Lizzington ending lolz - but I think I'm just afraid of being hurt again bc, for all my posturing, I know TPTB still have the power to do that, simply bc I still care just a tiny bit. Despite all the heartbreak I've already felt... a little remains of the show, the characters, & my heart for them to destroy 💔

Idk if that made any sense at all, anon, but I hope I communicated at least 3 things: 1) you're not alone in the way you feel, 2) the ending will probably hurt & ache & betray in just the way we're afraid of, & 3) we simply have to deal with the residual hurt, know that TPTB failed us & it's not our fault, &... cherish what we had by holding our Lizzington AU close to our hearts & keeping them alive through fanfic... at least, that's what I plan on doing. which is so close to your ranking!! honestly it's saying something about the strength of tlo as a finale that it's always been above botl for me, considering botl is the designated annabeth book of the series hehe. like, my ranking ttc so low has a lot to do with the fact that she isn't there for the majority of it (this is more observation and pattern recognition than conscious choice btw i just.. annabeth yk?).. so you would think that would imply botl would be my favorite lol

i do feel bad for som being so low, but something has to sit at the bottom.. maybe i have something against second books idk bc my least favorite in the mortal instruments is the second book too, and if hoo had ended with the strength that pjo did.. son probably would have slid to the bottom of that ranking. idk that's really interesting actually.
