Forsaken File 3.1 (Part 1, Forsaken File 3.0)
With You (part 2/2)
1.6k w.
There was a funny feeling crawling along his skin. Kyungsoo’s eyes fluttered before he fully opened them. Instantly, his eyes met with deep brown irises. He jolted in surprise and Jongin chuckled.
“You’ve been asleep for so long.” Jongin groaned.
Kyungsoo knew something was weird. He felt someone watching him as he slept. What a creepy habit to have. “It hasn't been that long…what time is it?”
“I don’t know,” Jongin made a face, pondering. “It feels like it’s around 7 a.m.” He said, and Kyungsoo sent him a questioning gaze. It feels like it’s around 7 a.m? Does this guy have an internal clock or something?
Kyungsoo rose from the bed, his pajama pants and t-shirt clung to his skin from a layer of sweat. It was unbearably warm, and he wanted to change out of his clothes as soon as possible. Without much thought, he began to remove his clothes and Jongin sat there watching.
Lifting his shirt from over his head, Kyungsoo turned and jumped. “Are you really going to sit and watch?”
Jongin shrugged. “You ain’t got nothing I don’t.”
Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. He changed quickly into his sailor uniform: fitted, navy blue pants and a pale, light blue shirt.
After applying his clothes, he grabbed his navigational log from the small desk beside his bed. It was routine for him to clock in with the navigator since he was a cadet in training to sail ships.
The sea was a vast place of exploration which influenced his desire of discovery and adventure from an early age. Out into the boundless ocean were unsolvable mysteries and secrets that have yet to be revealed. Kyungsoo adored the deep sea and all of its inhabitants. From the large blue whales to the minuscule zooplankton, he enjoyed the nature of such creatures living and thriving in the realm of water. It gave him a sense of comfort, that within such a massive world, everything had its place. He too wanted to feel as though he belonged.
Kyungsoo stepped out of his room and walked down the corridor. But then, he soon realized something. There were no footsteps trailing behind his own, and he spun around to find no one there. Scurrying back to his room, he peeped inside and saw Jongin still standing there.
“Come on!” He yelled.
“Sorry, thought I was staying here.”
“No, you’re under my care, you have to come with me.” As much as Kyungsoo disliked that notion, he didn’t want any trouble with the officer for leaving Jongin behind.
“Okay, okay, I got it.” Jongin waited for him to lead the way.
They stepped over a knee-knocker and continued their way to the mess deck. Food, of course, is the first thing on Kyungsoo’s mind when he wakes. And by the sounds of Jongin’s raging stomach, he knew the other felt the same. Last night didn’t seem to be enough for the boy.
Kyungsoo usually sat alone in the eating area. So things were quite strange when he suddenly had someone sitting at the opposite side of his table. They ate in silence due to his nonexistent social skills, but Kyungsoo liked to think it was because Jongin couldn’t stop gorging down his food. It reminded Kyungsoo of how he gobbled the rolls, and again, a small smile played on his lips.
There was a portion of the day when Kyungsoo had to leave Jongin behind. During his training, only he and the schoolmaster were allowed within the office. There, he learned complicated mathematics, navigation and sailing lore. Having been a trainee for some time now, he began to grasp the lessons of his teacher much quicker. The studious nature he possessed also played a key role in his developments over the years. And in four more years, when he turned twenty-one, they would promote him to an officer, and he desired nothing more.
While in the office, Jongin waited for him outside while resting on a small bench beside the study room. He sat there, appearing bored out of his mind. Kyungsoo glanced often at Jongin through the small window, a smile creeping on his face every time.
Jongin was a free spirit, an unbound soul. The boy was lively, adventurous, bright and full of life.
Kyungsoo knew very well who Jongin was.
The boy’s father rained praises about him and told Kyungsoo numerous family stories, showing photos to go along with them. His father was a proud man, no one could get him to shut up about his son back in their homeland.
Kyungsoo enjoyed the lengthy and animated tales. Being thirteen out at sea was rough on him back then. He didn’t have any peers his age to mess around with or to share in meaningless banter. It was lonely and frightening to be at such a tender age and never experience the freedom of simply being young. But, whenever he was told a story about Jongin, it brightened his days.
Soft, rosy cheeks would rise into a smile as he listened to Officer Kim ramble on and on. The more he listened, the more Kyungsoo found himself living vicariously through Jongin. Tiny sprouts of jealousy rose inside his chest at the freedom that Jongin had. Though his father claimed that Jongin was troublesome, he did so with a smile. Opposed to everyone’s initial beliefs, the boy was simply too wild to be maintained. Yet, there he sat, alone, on a ship where he didn’t belong.
Kyungsoo wondered what could have happened to make him go so far.
When the lesson was over, he jotted what he learned in his logs. The daily journal displayed his progress over the course of time, therefore, he couldn’t skip doing so.
Leaving the office, Kyungsoo saw Jongin with his head down, kicking at the floor.
“Hey,”
“Are you done?” Jongin asked and Kyungsoo nodded.
“Yeah for now, I have to—”
“Great!” Jongin interjected, hopping from his seat. “Let’s go to the ship deck.” Before Kyungsoo could utter another word, Jongin walked away. With a heavy sigh, Kyungsoo followed after him.
As they exited out onto the deck, Jongin dashed across the floor, his body catching the rail. The bright blue sky hailed above, and Kyungsoo squinted as the sun beamed down on them without mercy.
“Look!” He yelled as he pointed to the sea of water.
Kyungsoo hurried to his side. “What?” his eyes squinted even further in search of what Jongin was pointing at.
“I thought I saw a whale...but it’s gone.” He sounded sincere, so Kyungsoo refrained from rolling his eyes.
“There are other fish in the sea, you probably saw something else.”
“No, no. I’m sure it was a whale just now.” Jongin said. Kyungsoo didn’t see anything, his gaze never breaking from the large body of water.
When was the last time he simply watched the ripple of tides under the boat? He rested his arms on the rail and leaned over in a trance by the smooth waves that crashed against the ship.
It was reminiscent of his early days of being a sailor. The sea was never boring and he could stare at the blue water forever. The deck was a special place where he found his passion of being a seaman.
Even now, he thought of all the times he wanted to give up but continued because of his boundless love for the sea.
Kyungsoo turned his head to look at the boy beside him, and in Jongin’s eyes reflected so much more. His head was held high, passionate brown irises staring over the horizon. They soaked in the sun’s brilliance and glistened with an unbelievable sense of fascination. As though he was seeing the ocean for the very first time.
“Why do you want to be a navigator?” he asked, eyes never leaving the body of water.
That question came as a surprise to Kyungsoo. “How did you know?”
Breaking his gaze, Jongin turned and looked at the log curled up inside Kyungsoo’s palm. “My dad...He had a log like that one. Though, his was old and torn from years of use.” At the mention of his father, Jongin’s expression fell even further. Kyungsoo understood then of the person who he was searching for.
Kyungsoo was the silent type, never willing to speak first or to impose his opinion. He didn’t grow up to be someone who was opinionated as Jongin. However, curiosity poked at the surface and he wanted to know more about the boy.
“You hate the color red...then, what color do you like?”
At that, Jongin gave him a small smile before he turned to the sea and extended his arms wide, allowing the wind to flow though his limbs, fingertips catching the rays of sunlight.
“Everything that you see is blue, from the heavens to the surface of the Earth,” he sighed deeply, “It’s the most beautiful color.” He said, but Kyungsoo would disagree. The tone of Jongin's skin was absolutely marvelous to behold. As though kissed by the sun, his shade of pigmentation glowed and shimmered under that which bestowed such a hue. “What about you?” Jongin’s question came as a surprise again.
“Blue.”
Jongin smiled at his choice, giving him a hum of approval. And just like that, the remainder of their day was spent on the deck talking about everything and nothing.

Forsaken File 3.0
With You [alt version] (part 1/2)
(This was originally written for kaisoo day for Gigi, but I didn't have the time to expand, and it would have been a long fic. So I ended up rewriting another entire oneshot. You can read With You here. same prompt, but told differently.)
1.7k w.
“Yet is there hope. Time and tide flow wide. The hated whale has the round watery world to swim in, as the small gold-fish has its glassy globe. His heaven-insulting purpose, God may wedge aside…” Kyungsoo mumbled under his breath as he eyes scanned the stained and tattered copy of Moby Dick.
The subtle sway of the boat moved him back and forth, his body rocking along the tides. The dim illumination from the anchor brass ship lantern basked the small and cramped sleep room in a gentle orange. Steep darkness edged along the spaces where the light could not reach, thick and cold. In his solitude, Kyungsoo curled up on his bed and read aloud. His voice a quiet hum over the swash of midnight waves that knocked against the boat’s starboard.
The consistent and familiar rock of the ship lulled him into the realm of dreams most nights while at sea. However, they began a new voyage only a day ago and the embrace of sleep had not welcomed him yet.
Between the pages of his novels, he found solace. The tales of new adventures yet to be explored within his imagination was exciting. And he continued to trace the words on the page with steadied eyes and great attention.
Suddenly, three knocks banged against his door.
“Aye, kid, come on out here!” The man yelled and Kyungsoo hurried to his feet. Opening the door, he stepped out into the long corridor of the sleep quarters and saw the crew members standing outside of their rooms. Each of their eyes were settled on the Second Officer, Minjung, who by the looks of it, was pulling someone by the ear.
A boy, no older than himself, groaned and complained as Minjung pulled him down the corridor and didn’t stop until they reached Kyungsoo’s room.
“He snuck onto the boat, the idiot.” The man was angry red in the face and tightened his grip on the boy’s ear. Louder his cries of agony grew, and Kyungsoo’s face scrunched in pain that mimicked the one who was actually receiving it. “Kyungsoo!”
He quickly straightened his posture before speaking, “Y-yes, sir?”
“He will be under your watch and care until we reach port in three weeks.” He said with finality. Kyungsoo’s eyes widened and he staggered over his words for a reply. “Is there a problem?” Minjung raised a brow.
“N-no, sir.” Kyungsoo shook his head as fear traveled up his spine and grinded against his bones. No one disobeyed Minjung unless they wanted to clean the mess hall and spend ungodly hours at watch over the sea. Kyungsoo had been there before, and he’d rather not scrub the floors like he did so in the past.
The man shoved the boy toward him and Kyungsoo took a step back. But as the boy stumbled over his feet, his arms reached out in front to find purchase. He fell into Kyungsoo’s arms, and the midshipman stood stiff.
Their bodies scrambled to straighten and Kyungsoo’s cheeks glowed bright pink. The boy rubbed his ear to alleviate the pain, sending a death glare to the officer, who turned on his heels and marched down the hall. Kyungsoo watched as the boy stuck out his tongue in mockery. He bit back a laugh. How childish.
The remaining crew members returned inside their dorms and when the boy faced him, Kyungsoo changed his expression into a neutral one.
“Names Jongin. I’m allergic to tomatoes so I hate the color red.” He said, but Kyungsoo already knew that. He didn’t need such an odd introduction.
“Kyungsoo.” Was all he offered in return before he stepped back inside his small room. Now that he had a bunkmate, things would be different, he assumed. The other crew members shared a dorm in pairs, and with him being the youngest and the most recent to join, he had his own living quarters. Though smaller than the rest, he never had to concern himself with the lack of privacy. “You can take the top bunk.” Kyungsoo laid on his back and picked up his book once more. He began to read, immersing himself within the pages before Jongin spoke again.
“So, whatcha reading?” He asked, and Kyungsoo turned to find Jongin squatting beside his bed, face nearly rubbed against his cheek. He flinched back, eyes wide and alert. Jongin shot him an innocent and naive gaze with a head tilt, and Kyungsoo didn’t know what to make of it.
“Moby Dick.”
“Hmm...never heard of it.” Jongin sighed. “Do you only read?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Boring.” Jongin stood to stretch his limbs. “Hey, I’m starving. Let’s go get food.”
Kyungsoo pursed his lips. Jongin seemed to be the kind of person that couldn’t comprehend the time. It was late and the mess hall was closed already. “It’s late.” Kyungsoo replied as he situated himself on the bed with his book in hand.
Jongin shrugged. “Yeah, so?”
“So...” Kyungsoo paused, “We can’t go get food.” It was like talking to a child.
“We just have to sneak in.” With those words, Jongin left the room.
Kyungsoo snapped his fingers and whispered with urgency, “Hey! Hey!” Fuming with anger, he scrambled from the bed and threw on his shoes. He quickly followed after him, forgetting that he was only clad in pajama pants and a white t-shirt.
When he reached the dining cabin, Jongin was nowhere to be found. Yet, the sounds of keys dangling traveled to his ears and he searched left and right for a place to hide.
Suddenly, a palm slapped over Kyungsoo’s mouth and someone pulled him into the nearest supply closet. He bustled about trying to break free from the person’s hold, but it proved futile and he gave up moments later.
Once the guard disappeared, he was released. Kyungsoo coughed hard and scratched at his throat.
“I’m sorry, but you were going to get us caught.” Jongin said.
“Me?!” he croaked in disbelief, “We shouldn't be out here in the first place!” he yelled and Jongin had the nerve to shush him. Kyungsoo could literally strangle this boy if it weren’t for his father.
“Let’s go, he could come back at any moment.” As Jongin attempted to leave the closet, Kyungsoo grabbed his arm.
“We are going back to the room, to sleep. Like normal people.”
“Where is the fun in being normal?” Jongin grinned, moving his arm away and left down the hall.
Kyungsoo groaned, tantrumed feet kicking at the floor. He had to follow Jongin, and as they continued toward the mess deck, his eyes searched for anyone who could spot them. They entered the vast eating area which held rows of long tables with attached benches. Jongin led the way until they were in the back pantry storage where the food was kept.
“Okay, let's make it quick.” If Jongin was going to do this regardless, then Kyungsoo could only help him expedite the task. They rummaged around for food and he chanced upon a sack of dinner rolls. He tossed it to Jongin, who took a seat on the ground and immediately began eating as though his life depended on it. Perhaps it did, the way he devoured the bread. “Slow down, Jongin.” Kyungsoo sat on the floor beside the boy with their backs against a stack of cardboard boxes.
“Haven’t…since...starving.” Were the only three words Kyungsoo comprehend as Jongin shoved his ninth roll inside of his mouth. “Thirsty…” he grumbled, or more like spluttered when the crumbs flew from his mouth. Jongin chuckled, and Kyungsoo’s lips twitched as he fought the urge to smile.
“There’s nothing to drink, just eat.” Kyungsoo watched on with amazement. Jongin knocked at his chest with a closed palm, hitting the spot a few times as he gulped down the bread. He extended his arm and offered Kyungsoo a roll, which the other declined. Shrugging, Jongin placed it inside of his mouth and Kyungsoo exploded in laughter. Jongin looked at him with wide eyes, and Kyungsoo laughed even harder. “You’re mad for eating that much.” he said in between his chuckles.
Jongin swallowed and coughed moments later. “I haven’t eaten since yesterday. I snuck onto the ship, remember?”
“Why?”
“I’m looking for someone…” He said, though Kyungsoo waited for him to elaborate, he never did.
“I see.”
“Should we go back?”
Finally, he was ready to leave and Kyungsoo was beyond grateful for that. They both stood from the floor and headed toward the exit to leave the cabin. But, while exiting the room, a blink of a flashlight shone in Jongin’s eyes.
“Hey!” A guard yelled, and Jongin took off running, Kyungsoo not too far behind. The cadet stumbled over his feet trying to keep up with the boy in front of him. Jongin whisked in the air like a breeze, light taps of his shoes met the ground as his hair flew back from the speed of his sprint. He threw a look over his shoulder at Kyungsoo and smiled before he faced forward to continue running, accelerating. Jongin was enjoying this, Kyungsoo realized, and then a wide grin stretched across his face as well. Blood pumped violently in his veins as the adrenaline climbed to a new height.
Exhilarating. To sneak into the mess hall and run away from the guard. Never had he thought of doing such a thing before, and even though it showed little of his discipline, he couldn’t deny how fun it felt.
When they made it inside the dorm room, Kyungsoo collapsed onto his back on the bed. He felt the mattress bend under the weight of another body and turned his head to find Jongin also on his bunk.
Kyungsoo looked at Jongin. Jongin looked at Kyungsoo. For a moment, they stared. Then, eruptions of laughter permeated the room. Kyungsoo struggled to breathe.
“Thanks.” Jongin said.
“For what?” He asked as his heartbeat slowed and his breaths evened out. The next moments were spent in a cloud of daydreams before Kyungsoo’s eyelids grew heavy. Not long after closing them, he fell asleep to the rhythmic sway of the boat he’d grown accustomed to.

Vin Foncé
Layout: One-shot
Rating:  PG-13
Length: 1.3k w.
Prompt: Word/Phrase: Vin Foncé (Dark/Red Wine)
This just doesn’t make sense, Jongin thought. He had been waiting in line for his reservation at one of the most prestigious restaurants in South Korea, La Paris, for an hour. His grave expression must have prompted his bookish secretary as she tried to calm him by claiming that he would be getting seated any minute now. Due to the ample amount of people who arrived that night, the seating was going to take longer than usual.
“If I have to wait fifteen more minutes, they will be getting a horrible review!” Jongin sighed heavily.
“Table for Kim Jongin.” The hostess said, and the CEO was fairly relieved that he had finally been called. With a miffed grunt, he straightened the blazer of his three-piece designer suit and followed her to his designated table. Dismissing his secretary, he took his seat and opened a menu.
