The rumor mill is grinding at mach speed today, and class hasn’t even started yet.
Even during class the inexorable turning of the millstone doesn’t slow down:
The lounge is oddly quiet when Minato gets back, but the reason why makes itself apparent pretty quickly.
Aragaki is slumped on the couch, arms crossed, head lolling forward, dead-to-the-world asleep. Koromaru’s front half is draped over Aragaki’s lap and Sanada sits beside them, eating a takeout beef bowl and occasionally nudging Koromaru’s butt out of its orbit with his elbow.
That’s… a hard question to answer, honestly, but he does his best.
Minato actually has no idea what made him say that, but now that he has, it definitely seems right. He shrugs. Sanada laughs but then sobers.
Whatever Minato’s face is doing, it’s unintentional. He shows Sanada his palms noncommittally.
Minato shakes his head, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
“It’s not that,” he says, because he’s hit a dead end with things he can communicate non-verbally. “But I don’t know if Aigis would be too happy about the idea of bringing him onto the team. She really doesn’t like him.”
Sanada’s eyebrows shoot up.
“What on earth did he do to get on Aigis’ bad side?”
“Uh. Appeared, I guess. She’d already made up her mind about him before he even tried to hit on her, so.”
Sanada spends the next two minutes trying to quietly stop choking on the bite of his food he’d just taken, while also fending off a concerned Koromaru, who seems to be attempting an arcane dog version of CPR.
Aragaki wakes up despite his best efforts, and it’s his elbow in Sanada’s side that finally seems to do the trick.
A spirited verbal sparring match ensues that Minato wouldn’t be able to wedge his way into even if he wanted– which he decidedly does not. He waits for them to wrap it up before he floats the idea of making an excursion to Tartarus tonight.
Sanada approves, though he’s much more subdued about it than Minato is accustomed to. Koromaru worms his way back into Aragaki’s lap, which is probably his way of declaring that he volunteers to stay at the dorm and keep Aragaki company.
To Minato’s immense surprise, however, Aragaki wheedles Koromaru into going along.
They’re already down two fighters, is Aragaki’s line of reasoning; he doesn’t want to steal another one from them.
He even sweetens the deal with another promised home-cooked meal. Those must be really stacking up– Minato’s lost count of how many Aragaki owes at this point. It seems like a bit much to be honest.
Privately Minato suspects that the real reason Aragaki is being so insistent is that he simply wants some time entirely by himself.
He gets that– as much as he also adores that dog, ‘alone with Koromaru’ doesn’t cut it when what he really needs is to be alone alone. It’s hard to explain the distinction to other people, and even harder to convey that it absolutely isn’t anything against them.
So Minato spins a yarn about a strategy he wants to try tonight that requires Koromaru, and returns the tiny nod that Aragaki aims in his direction.

Hello! In your post about Makoto and Ken, you mentioned movie Ken is your favorite. As someone who’s only played the game, I was wondering what subtle differences there are between movie and game Ken?
hey there! I'm very honored and glad you asked cause I feel like movie Ken is an underrated aspect of his character because of one key substantial difference: He actually was close to Shinjiro and admired him... before learning the truth.
spoilers for Midsummer Knight's Dream!
In the games, it's clear that the catalyst for Ken joining SEES was after he found out Shinjiro was the killer of his mom right before summer vacation was to end and he was supposed to go back to his elementary school dorm. So, he entered SEES (in his eyes rightfully) hating Shinji and with the goal of getting strong enough to kill him. Shinjiro joins right after, Ken himself being his reason, and they literally never talk... the tension is so palpable! There's also this trifecta of sorts that the developers wanted to convey which is pictured above... how Ken admires Akihiko, while Aki admires Shinji, while Ken hates Shinji. the monorail scene in Full Moon, Full Life is symbolic for this.
The movie's take on it though.. provides a slight nuance to this.
In the movies, a handful of characters become narrative foils/parallels to further develop Makoto Yuki's character such as Chidori, Natsuki, Takaya, Pharos obviously, Fuuka, etc. But one that's always stuck out to me was Ken Amada.
Right off the bat, Mitsuru assigns Makoto as Ken's bodyguard because they "share similar backgrounds". Both are orphans who lost their parents to the Dark Hour. Ken is aimless at this point, wandering about during the Dark Hour to kill time. He declines living in Iwatodai dorm even. But then, he thinks he found out the killer of his mom is actually the shadows, specifically a large one with a hulking body and blond hair. This is during the attack on the shrine where Koromaru protects it (cool thing about the movies is that we see the actual moment Koro-chan fights, instead of just the aftermath this time!). Ken's resolve is made and he joins SEES to eradicate shadows. Akihiko looks away quietly in this moment. Shinjiro rejoins SEES except it was Strega that gave him the info that Ken joined. The tension is still palpable, except this time Ken is none the wiser.
Ken immediately takes to Shinjiro because Shinji protected him during a Full Moon attack. He's so strong, everything Ken wants to be. (Nevermind Shinji's own reasoning for jumping in was his brand of punishment...)
This brings me to my final point. It's no secret by now that my favorite is Makoto, and the way that Ken's words echo Makoto's own thoughts about his mom is so quietly tragic to me that provides a layer of depth to both their characters we never really get in the games. They were both driven by their own mothers' influence and deaths.
Life was not worth living after they were orphaned, but now, they can finally live again... recently in Reload the Ken and Makoto parallels I mentioned were that they basically share the same dread, and self-isolation tendencies but I like this sentiment in the movie that there's healing to be found in the little things again :( Makoto and Ken were both healing...
anyways uh. since this is Persona 3 we all know how this ends which I will not spoil because I really, really like what they did with Makoto and his role in Shinjiro's death in the movies (+ the aftermath of it) but! I'll leave with these insane af frames
This is after Ken finds out that the large shadow with a hulking body and blond hair was not, in fact, a shadow at all - but someone's Persona.
#i rewatched the movie at 4x speed for this LMAOO it was so funny#ken amada#makoto yuki#shinjiro aragaki#akihiko sanada#persona 3#midsummer knight's dream#minato arisato#aishi.docx#persona 3 reload#ans#anon#aishi.txt#also i couldnt find a place to fit this in but i specifically mention Makoto's mother bc. BC... the movie....#that one scene in the final movie....#I CRYYYY...#anyways yeah. (does not elaborate)#just watch the movies <3#i love love makoto in those... my little guy YYyy.y.#ik this post is movie ken appreciation and why hes my fave but#if u were to make me choose which makoto is my fave... i wouldnt know... i love them all#that being said my fave FeMC is Q2 though like easily.#I DIGRESS! <3 ty for reading

i've been doing a bunch of tartarus runs in reload lately, and it got me thinking about how i miss certain ways FES's clunky gameplay can characterize minato… (ramble about the great clock mechanic + leveling up party members in reload vs fes under the cut)
when i got to yabbashah block in tartarus (block 3), i remember commending the developers for adding the great clock mechanic. it's a much more convenient way to keep party members at the protagonist's level- so when you think about p3 from the perspective of trying to make it easier for people to play, the mechanic succeeds in this respect.
but now that i'm in adamah block, and that i've done lots of my once-a-month tartarus runs… i think that i got a little too dependent on it, and the way that i played through reload feels like a vastly different experience from how i played FES.
in reload, my party's levels are very lopsided. minato, yukari, akihiko, mitsuru, and fuuka are all level 90+, meanwhile junpei and aigis are at level 79, and then… poor ken and koromaru are at 71 and 64 respectively. (i never got to have a great clock for them…)
meanwhile, in FES, my party's levels were much more evenly distributed and were at least level 90. i did all of this manually for every monthly tartarus run because i enjoyed having options available for the taratarus guardians and monthly operations.
with how i perceive minato, i feel that the way i played FES feels more in-line with his character than me dawdling around waiting for the great clocks in reload.
FES's gameplay loop left me with the very strong impression that minato has to work twice as hard as everyone else in SEES does. it makes sense because, yeah, he's the leader, but something about having minato run through tartarus multiple times with different groups of people just to make sure that they are adequately prepared speaks volumes about his character, to me.
and while the tired mechanic is present in reload to some degree, most notably with allowing you to freely raise your courage stat when you visit edogawa after school… the tiredness system doesn't hit the same way that FES does, i think.
the way your party members in FES will call it quits when they return to the entrance floor at tartarus when they're tired, versus minato, in spite of all his tiredness and sickness, still pushes through tartarus because it's his responsibility…. idk!!! i miss that! i feel like this really hammers home the difference between minato and the rest of SEES, how minato doesn't really see himself as a human with needs worth respecting as long as he's useful to someone.
i don't think that tartarus being tedious (in FES especially) is not what most people would describe as fun, and i can respect people thinking it's a slog. but, regardless of how it feels to play, it doesn't change that FES's gameplay loop is a fundamental building block in how i perceive minato…
of course, i do recognize that you can just opt to NOT use the great clock in reload (and it's great when players are offered the choice to not partake in mechanics)! i definitely think that if someone really wanted to, they could manually level up party members, but i do feel that kind of playstyle isn't necessarily "incentivized" to the type of people who are into playing games for Having a Good Time. it's kind of like… "why would you do that when there's a much more convenient option available to you."
in any case! despite my woes, i do want to emphasize that i'm glad that reload has a much more smoother gameplay loop than the original P3 did, because it does make the game more accessible to people. having played both FES and reload, it feels very strongly apparent to me how the core gameplay formula of persona has really been refined in the past 18 years (to think og p3 was 2006 and reload is 2024.. time flies!). and reload has made revisiting a story that i love so dearly much, much easier because the gameplay just bops!
at the same time, due to my "i miss characterization informed by weird and dated FES gameplay quirks" woes, i still think that playing FES is worthwhile. (really, i feel this way about all iterations of p3! i think it's worthwhile to see what each version and side media has to say even if it doesn't Land™ for you.) but i also understand why people wouldn't want to play it, so i will keep writing posts about things i liked from FES's gameplay because i'm still very fond of FES (especially in respects to minato. these mechanics are so telling about him!!!) 💪
#lizzy speaks#persona 3#persona 3 reload#<- specifically mentions of mechanics. no added story content just tartarus talk#minato arisato#today on lizz life: lizz wakes up THINKING about minato for the NTH time and is compelled to write a tumblr post about it#tartarus in reload is excellent looking and fun but i keep thinking about what i liked about how FES characterizes minato so#here i am... LOL... with my 790 or so word ramble... im so normal about the blue boy#i needed to get my feelings out there somewhere i just could not stop thinking about HIM HE IS IN MY BRAIN 24/7#me playing reload last night like 'minato would not fucking wait for a great clock to make sure that SEES is adequately prepared.'#and yet my sloth brain awaits the great clock... LOL gameplay convenience is not lost on me#i'm stuck in tartarus rn im grinding rubies and stuff trying to get equipment so i can throw hands with elizabeth its going to be fun#im still not done with this game i continue to be haunted by tartarus i fucking love that tower unironically#uh usually id ramble more in tags but. go read my post!! because i like analyzing FES gameplay mechanics!! i am full of passion and love!

PERSONA 3 SHOWDOWN, GO!
All propaganda and what each competitor is from under the cut (tw for suicide mentions in Makoto's propaganda)
Makoto Yuuki/Minato Arisato (Persona 3)
He’s suicidal but also an allegory for Jesus Christ. He is also a door. He can also date a robot. He’s my special little guy. He is Orpheus but also Thanatos but also not. He’s got autistic swag. He doesn’t care. He saves the world
The loss of his parents informs everything about his character. His lack of fear in regards to death, his struggle to form attachments, his apathetic attitude to his surroundings… And, yet, the game is about overcoming that and making friends and learning to live and love and care about people. It's a game about Makoto learning to be a person again.
I could write a several page essay but I will try not to. He was orphaned at like 7 years old. His parents were killed officially in a car crash, I believe, but unofficially shadows (the enemies of the game) were involved. Immediately after this, and I mean Immediately, he had the shadow of Death Itself sealed inside him. Then carried that around for a decade, before returning to the city this happened in. (It's implied that he was passed between relatives and didn't have a long standing residence but I can't remember how Canon that is specifically in the og game). he sacrifices his life to save ALL OF HUMANITY and I love him dearly
The coolest bitch on the planet.
Look at him. Very gender AND very depressed. Also, his parents are brutally killed in a car accident that leaves him with severe mental health problems and a lack of regard of his own life. Eventually, he grows out of this mindset and learns to love life until his own tragic end :( a vote for him is a vote for door jesus and the world being saved through love 👍
Mitsuru Kirijo (Persona 3)
Her father dies in her arms during the course of the game. Her mother had died years beforehand. Mitsuru had always wanted to make her father proud and relieve his burden, but then he dies. She struggles with this for a long time in-game before her girlfriend breaks her out of it, but yeah. Vote for this depressed lesbian. She really needs all the help she can get :(

This is from the smut portion of Chapter 2
So to give context: Minato had just drank the blood of junpei from a blood bag in front of Junpei, prompting him to be horny. The two already made out and are about to go to the next step when this happens.
Junpei shrugged as he mouthed at Minato’s still-clothed erection, getting a reaction out of Minato, who let out a soft gasp at the sudden contact. As he turned his head away from Junpei, he noticed the cards of both Orpheus and Hermes floating away from their place in their pockets and slipping under the door. “Did those two just-” Minato asked. “What?” Junpei wondered. “I could’ve sworn I saw our cards slide under the goddamned door!” “Yeah, you forget?” “Riiiight, they feel the same things we do.” “Now who’s the dumbass?” “Junpei, a good chunk of my blood is in my dick, do you think my brain is working right?”

a part of you lives on in me
pairing: makoto yuki / minato arisato x gn!reader
summary: during a visit to makoto's grave, you think you're hallucinating when a certain blue haired boy appears next to you…
tags: established relationship, angst with a happy ending, reincarnated!makoto yuki, mentions of s.e.e.s. (+moving on), hurt/comfort, wholesome fluff, reader & makoto's lives are connected
“i miss you more than i thought was possible”
ever since makoto's death, you came to visit his grave every day. while the other members of s.e.e.s. often accompanied you at the start, slowly less and less tagged along with you. they were able to move on, while you weren't yet.
after all, makoto had been your boyfriend. he meant a lot to everyone, but what the two of you had was special. losing him was a pain unlike any other. a pain that never seemed to fade, only growing as time passed.
“if there's any chance for us to meet again… maybe in another life. maybe in death. then please… please, let me see you one last time.”
you were clinging onto a dream that wasn't realistic. wishing that you could see makoto again. even when you knew that it could never happen, you prayed for it every day. until eventually, your prayers were answered.
“you still come here, every day?”
a familiar voice reached out to you. for a moment, you believed it to simply be your own imagination. you didn't even turn around, as you answered:
“i'll continue to come here, every day. it's the only place where you and i can still be together…”
“you never were the type to let go that easily. you never give up, even when things seem impossible.”
there that voice was again. as you finally turned around, a boy with blue hair, covering half of his face, stood next to you, looking down at the grave.
“perhaps it was that will of yours that brought me here. or my own longing to see you again one last time…”
you stared up at the boy, frozen in place. you could barely see his face, with his hair covering up most of it. but you were sure that if you could see it, that it would be…
“makoto…?” you whispered, scared that you may be wrong. “it is you, isn't it…?”
as his head turned, a breeze hushed through the graveyard, blowing the hair out of his face. and as his face was visible to you, you could see those kind eyes of the boy you loved and lost.
“it's been a while.” makoto said with a small smile, as he sat down next to you, in front of his own grave. “i never thought i'd get the chance to see you again…”
“why are you here? are you…?”
you reached out your hand, longing to feel makoto's warmth. to see if he was real or not. yet the idea that he was just a figment of your imagination scared you too much and your hand lingered close to his own, not daring to touch him.
“i couldn't move on.” makoto confessed. “i should've made my peace with what happened. i thought i had. but a part of me still clung to life. it clung to you, wishing i could be with you again. i thought i was ready to die… but i wasn't. not when i was leaving you behind…”
“and… what does that mean for us?”
makoto carefully reached out his hand to hold yours. when they touched, you could feel how warm he was. he was real. he had to be real.
“as long as you're here, i can't move on. i can't die, when you're still keeping me alive. i suppose… i got a second chance to live. a second chance to be with you.”
it sounded too good to be true. all those months, you had wished for makoto to come back to you. yet when he did return, you couldn't believe it.
“and if i'm gone…?”
“if you die, i'll die. we're connected.”
makoto's hand squeezed your own. he could see this was a lot for you right now. your life had changed so much since his death. and now that he returned to you, it would all change again.
“makoto…?”
after a moment of silence, you turned to your boyfriend. tears lingered in the corner of your eyes and you held tight onto his hand.
“welcome back…”
makoto smiled softly, wiping away the tears of relief that began to run down your cheeks. he pressed a gentle kiss onto your lips, before whispering:
“i'm home.”

Guide to Persona MC names
Just a small guide to help newcomers understand all the names and nicknames/fannames for their fav Persona MCs. Keep in mind this is main games/nameless MC's only (so I won't list Aigis in the P3 but I will mention Maya as well as the notes at the bottom, this is due to how I structured P2 vs P3 sections) (Edit: may add to this list later but it's pretty complete for now)(Edit 2: Note that Shunjiko translates as Protagonist/Hero/Main character):
Persona 1:
P1MC: shorthand for Persona 1 Main Character
(P1) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title
Boy with Earring: In-game moniker
Naoya Toudou: Manga name
Yuuya Narumi: (one of the) DramaCD names (note: other dramaCD is just labeled "protagonist")
Jihei Suzakuin: Novel name
Persona 2:
Tatsuya Suou: MC for P2 Innocent Sin, can be renamed and it'll carry over in EP (and Katsuya's last name will change as well)
Maya Amano: MC for P2 Eternal Punishment. Cannot be changed, just like Aigis
Kazumi Kiba: MC for the manga Persona: Tsumi to Batsu. (not really related to the games but it takes place right before P2EP, Edit: mentioned him because I've seen some people think he's suppose to be an adaptation of Tatsuya or something when he's just a different character all together)
Persona 3 (Male):
P3MC: Short hand for Persona 3 Main Character
(P3) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title
Kitaro: The Japanese Fanname, due to his resemblance to the main character Kitaro from Gegege no Kitaro.
Minato Arisato: Manga name
Makoto Yuki: Movie name (*gets adopted later into games)
Sakuya Shiomi: Stage Play Name
Leader: Generic Name for MC in Drama CDs and such
Roger: A name used in AtlusUSA marketing (maybe related to this line in the game?)
Door-kun: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, spoiler reasons.
Gettaro/Tsukitaro* Yamada: provisional name for P3MC in the movies' script. A play on Kitaro. (thanks @aliliceswonderland for reminding me, as well as the other's! TToTT)
Persona 3 (Female):
P3FeMC or just FeMC (sometimes/old variations FeShe or MShee): Shorthand for (Persona 3) Female Main Character. Since SMT if/Tamaki, Maya, and Aigis have fixed names (in Persona canon), this one is usually who people mean when they hear "FeMC." Though some might use this word as a "what if" for P4/5/6 having a female protagonist. But it's usually for the P3 one.
Leader: Generic Name for FeMC in DramaCDs and such
(P3) Heroine/Josei Shunjiko : Japanese generic title
Hamuko (Arisato): The Japanese fanname, IF Arisato is used, it's derived from the P3MC's manga name.
Minako Arisato: The Western Fanname, derived from Minato Arisato but making it "ko" since a lot of females use that name (note: Minato is actually a unisex name to begin with)
Makoto Yuki: P3MC's movie name. SOME adopted this name after the movie was release due to being a unisex name)
Kotone Shiomi: Stage Play Name (*only official name she's gotten, and unlike P3/4/5MCs whose names were taken from anime adaptions, she's the only one to have her's taken from the stage play).
Door-Chan: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, spoiler reasons.
Canon-chan/Non-canon-chan: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, usually in regards to her canon status. (answer: she is canon)
Lunako Gekko: Name used for Famitsu article
Persona 4:
P4MC: Short hand for Persona 4 Main Character
(P4) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title
Leader: Generic Name for MC in Drama CDs and such
Bancho(u): Japanese Fan Nickname (he's also called this in Arena's files, short hand for his Arena fighter title)
Souji Seta/Soji Seta: Manga Name
Yu Narukami: Anime Name (*was later used for games)
Various Stage Names: Unlike the P3MCs who have a fixed stage play name, P4's gimmick was to change the name each showing. The ones used in the DVDs are: "Yuuya Seta" for the first one, "Hayato Asakawa" for the second. (complete list, at least for the 2nd stage play coming soon)
Charlie "Chuck" Tunoku: Giant Bomb Endurance run of P4 (I think this is the more famous one)
Kenpachi Ramasama/Ramasama Kenpachi: Two Best friends play P4
Chad: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, something something blame the anime (originated around it's run) esp the scene with the King's game. He got all the chicks or something.
Persona 5:
P5MC: Short hand for Persona 5 Main Character
(P5) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title
Joker: His in-game code name
Akira Kurusu: Manga name
Ren Amamiya: Anime Name (*was later used for games)
Various Stage Names: Like P4, they adopted the gimmick of doing different names each showing. The ones used on the DVDS are: "Itsuki Onda" for the first one, "Naoki Toudou" for the second one, "Nozomu Akase" for the third one, and "Kaito Shinno" for the forth/last one. (complete list here)
Chair-kun: In reference to the original teaser for P5 (there were a lot of chairs)
Pego: Fan nickname for P5MC, usually english fandom from what I've seen. Stands for Pe(rsona) and Go (aka 5 in japanese). It's a very common one and I...literally forgot TT0TT
Akiren: Alternative fan nickname for P5MC, for fans that like both Akira and Ren's names but don't want to choose I suppose.
Persona 5 X:
P5XMC: Short hand for Persona 5X Main Character
(P5X) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title
Wonder: His In-game code name
Fun facts/other notes:
FeMC is the only one who breaks the streak of using anime names (due to not having an anime adaptations), it also causes P3 to cross between two different kinds of supplementary canon. (see more on this reblog)
Not all of P4's various stage names are known, namely (haha) the first stage play. If you dig you can find all of the 2nd ones (I should really post that list one day DX)
Despite P1MC not having a consistent chosen name, Atlus seems fond of Naoya, specifically using Naoya/Kazuya together (Devil Survivor 1 manga and P5 Mementos Quest mission) with characters. If you read the P1 manga you'd understand why they put those two names together.
Kitaro and Hamuko were used as place holder text for the P3MC and FeMC chars names for PQ2.
Banchou was used for P4MC's mocking title card in Arena/Ultimax, it was translated as "Kingpin" in english.
Some other chars I didn't listed as having "Leader" could very well be called "Leader" at some point.
Shin Kanzato is the MC to the anime Persona: Trinity Soul, a series that takes place 10 years after P3. It's in it's own separate canon from the P3 we know, Edit: but I'm mentioning him because of it being the original sequel of P3 for a brief period.
Aigis' name obvie can't be changed just like Maya, but she is the MC of both The Answer, as well as the Aigis: The First Mission cellphone game. (sometimes fans refer to her as a "toaster"...bc she's a robot)
Edit: Anna is the MC of P2's novel adaptations iirc, and Naoto and Yosuke are protagonists of their own books/novels/manga. There are most likely others but I will probs end it there (as I just wanna stick with games/original MCs and having Aigis/Kiba/Shin was a bit dicey)
Similar to Pego, P3MC may also be referred to as Pesan, and P4MC as Peyon. I haven't personally seen it (considering the other more prominent names they've had) but I wanted to list it just in case.
To update: Since I mentioned Roger, it's only fair I dig for all the other ones used for other characters (it's just Roger is the most popular, and it's not used often even at that).

makoto yuki with an emo s/o! ✧ ˖°
warnings: no major ones i think? i guess junpei calls you a hot chick but he just assumes your gender w/o knowing you.
note: first time writing persona fanfiction. i feel a bit cringe (,,•o•,,) reader is gn but makeup is mentioned! but guys, especially emo ones can, and do wear makeup :) mb if this is bad. kinda proofread
characters: makoto yuki/arisato minato or wtv his name is
word count: around 2.1k . this is kinda long, sorry.
makoto first saw you after school on a boring tuesday in june. you were drinking water on a bench outside, and he immediately noticed your teased hair and dark eye makeup. he didn’t care but thought you looked unique compared to the other more basic looking students.
makoto quickly forgot about you as hanging out with his friends and tartarus trips became more and more frequent and took over his daily life. on some days, he would see you either talking with a friend, or listening to music outside during his after school activities.
the second time he saw you was at power records browsing some of the cd’s in stock. you had a pair of black earbuds in your ears, literally blaring some of the loudest music he’s ever heard. even though you were looking through japanese cd’s, you were listening to english songs. makoto thought that was cool, too since he likes all kind of music.
the closer he got to you, the more details of your appearance he took in. your eyeshadow was pitch black, accompanied with thick eyeliner in the same color. he noticed a thin, yet kind of clumpy layer of mascara on your eyelashes. as he got closer to you the smell of hairspray grew more prominent.
you seemed incredibly absorbed in your cd browsing, and makoto honestly thought you wouldn’t be able to hear anything, much less his voice so he browsed on the opposite side of the store, picked a random cd, and checked out.
after that, makoto saw you walking to the school store in the hallways. he paid no mind again, until he saw the same black earbuds you had on at the store fall out of the pocket of your schoolbag. he knew he had to return it since he too has experienced the pain of losing his headphones all too many times. plus, this would be a good opportunity to talk to you.
he tapped you on the shoulder with your earbuds in his other hand. you turned around quickly and before you could say anything makoto mumbled out a monotone “you dropped this.” as he put his hand out in front of you, your earbuds placed safely on the palm of his hand.
makoto stirred up a conversation with you by talking about music. he mentioned how he always saw you walking around with your earbuds and asked what type of music you listened to. you, very enthusiastically began to passionately speak about your favorite bands like one he’s never heard of named fall out boy, and more popular ones like my chemical romance. you info dumped things like fun facts about all of your favorite bands to him, before realizing you just geeked out in front of stranger, a cute one at that.
a small smile appeared on his face. makoto truly didn’t mind. in fact, he appreciated seeing some of your personality shine instead of being weirded out. he mentioned some of his favorite english artists. although both of your music tastes were a little different, there were a few artists you both liked.
after being friends for a few months, you realized you caught feelings for makoto. you first realized you liked him when he got you a jack frost doll from the claw machine at paulownia mall. you appreciated that he did it for you, but your cheeks began to feel warm when you looked into his eyes and saw how determined he was. all of a sudden, you began to fiddle with the material of your ripped jeans and did everything to not make eye contact him. he seemed confused, but didn’t question you. little did you know he would begin to feel the same way.
after the paulownia mall “incident” something clicked in makoto’s head that made him realize that maybe you had a crush on him. actually, no way. you, liking him? no way. it had to have been all in his head.
he couldn’t wrap his head around the idea. makoto liked you too, he thinks? his chest feels warm around you, and he suddenly couldn’t focus around you which resulted in him losing 3,000 yen trying to get you another doll. he went home with slightly sweaty hands, which he told himself was from gripping the joystick on the claw machine but a small part of him knew what it truly was.
makoto genuinely thought he was delusional, until he asked yukari since she seemed to be more informed on this topic than him. she convinced him that you 100% liked him romantically. yukari told him to go somewhere nice like a fancy restaurant and buy you roses.
he mentally rolled his eyes at her comment, but still thanked her. her suggestion seemed like something from a cheesy rom-com. you didn’t really seem like that type of person so he figured that he could buy you a new cd from a band you liked and go go eat ice cream together.
the “date” starts smoothly. you two ate ice cream on a bench at the port island station. makoto kept looking at everything but you, and you constantly shifted away from him. it got a little awkward until you heard a loud meow coming from a shady looking alley.
“wait, makoto, did you hear that?” you asked, a look of curiosity and worry on your face. he nodded and suggested checking it out. you got up first, which gave makoto an opportunity to admire you from afar as you began to walk to the alley, away from him. he got up and walked behind you, but tripped a little due to his nerves. thank god you didn’t see that…
you both saw an adorable cat, but it looked way too malnourished. “we should get it some food,” he suggested “only if you want to, though.” he added on. literally why did he suggest that? where could you two even get cat food? he began to sweat a little, but he played it off smoothly.
“hmm, where from though?” you asked, but remembered the countless times you two had gone to paulownia mall. suddenly the pharmacy came to mind. “wait… dosen’t that one store in paulownia sell some?” you questioned, looking at him for a response. he truly didn’t know but still went along with your plan, nodding at the suggestion.
surprisingly, they did sell some! you bent down to feed it to the cat, patting it softly as it purred in response. makoto figured this was a good time to confess, since you seemed calmer than before.
makoto cleared his throat awkwardly, causing you to get up and turn around. you looked at him with curious eyes which made him even more nervous.
“well, i got you this.” it was a cd of my chemical romance’s first album i brought you my bullets, you brought me your love. he handed it to you, looking right at you. he saw how your eyes lit up, and it made him so happy to see your lips curve into a smile.
“oh my god, are you serious?” you said, a little shocked. you looked up at makoto, and took it back. the album had your favorite song ever on it, and the cd was a little more difficult to obtain due to its age. you couldn’t believe it, and were gonna thank him a thousand times before he interrupted you.
“so, i wanted to tell you something.” he mumbled, his cheeks seemed pinker than usual. “a few weeks ago, i realized that i like you, romantically. I was wondering if you wanted to be my partner… it’s okay if you decline, we can still be friends.”
you stood still like a statue for a few seconds, and you contemplated pinching yourself until you saw the hopeful look on makoto’s face grow disappointed which made you realize you had to say something.
“y-yeah! of course! i’m so glad you feel the same way, i’ve been so worried about what you thought about me. oh my god, i’m so happy i could die.” you blurted out, getting closer to him and shyly looking at him.
this had to be the best day of his life. makoto couldn’t believe it, but without thinking he brought you into a tight embrace. his arms wrapped around your waist as your body heat combined. you stayed like that for a while, until makoto opened his mouth to say something.
“i’m so glad you like me back.” he whispered, quiet yet loud enough so that you could hear. his arms began to shake ever so slightly as his grip around your waist tightened.
after a long conversation with him, you had to go back home. he walked you home, and said goodbye. makoto walked back to the monorail feeling more accomplished than ever.
when he got back to the dormitory yukari, junpei, and fuuka were sitting in the lobby. they all welcomed him, simple things like “hi, leader!” but junpei had a different plan. apparently, makoto’s happiness was hard to not see.
“heyy, leader! something up with ya’? you seem happy. win the lottery, meet a hot chick or something?” he questioned loudly, a teasing smirk on his face.
fuuka didn’t pay attention to what junpei was talking about, thinking junpei was joking and continuing to type away on her laptop. but yukari’s head shot up as soon as she heard what junpei said, makoto did confide in her so could junpei be right?
“…nothing” makoto responded calmly. he walked up the stairs to his room, ready to immediately text you as soon as the door shut. yukari followed him. junpei’s face spelt our p-u-z-z-l-e-d. what the hell was going on?! he went back to reading his magazine after gawking at yukari practically stomping up the stairs.
“wait. makoto, did it work out? is my advice really that good?” yukari asked, hands behind her back as she stood in front of him.
“yeah, you could say so. thanks” makoto responded, smiling even though her date suggestion wasn’t even considered. he couldn’t ruin her mood, though. she would kill him if he said what he was thinking.
“well, i’m glad! don’t let it affect you in tartarus, though.” she smiled cheerfully, going back down to whisper to junpei about who knows what.
dating!
makoto’s favorite dates include karaoke and sneaking you into the dormitory. you can only really sing to jpop and sometimes jrock since the karaoke machines are pretty old, but he finds it funny and almost ironic. he does the same thing but prefers eating the snacks provided with you.
staying in his room is calming. looking through his cd collection for hours, and listening to music together by sharing headphones is nice too. your favorite part is eating leftovers of shinjiro’s cooking even if makoto’s room starts to smell like food.
his favorite thing in the world is kissing you. embracing eachother on his bed while your lips press against his, lipstick smudging on his lips messily.
you like doing his makeup and giving him a makeover, turning him into you. painting makoto’s nails black and drawing edgy nail art like a skull or checker print. thats nowhere near the end of your shenanigans. you douse him in hairspray and tease his hair until he looks just like he’s myspace famous, as well as giving doing his makeup. eyeliner exaggerated to the top with the tiniest amount of black eyeshadow on his eyelids.
you’ve convinced makoto to do some crazy stuff he never thought he’d do in a million years like makeup. and he even helped you with a tiny stick and poke tattoo on your inner thigh so your parents wouldn’t see. he regretted that after, but the smile on your face from seeing the result washed his worries away.
makoto’s only been caught with you in the dormitory once, which scared him for a while and resulted in him going to your house for a few months. aigis of all people saw you two making out while listening to the cd he gave you. she thankfully didn’t say anything about it and after you went home, she said she would keep their secret with them until she dies(she’s a robot… so he felt 10x more relieved). makoto’s still grateful it wasn’t mitsuru or junpei. mitsuru would literally execute him, and junpei would never forget that and tease him to death over it.
so far, nobody but yukari and aigis know about your relationship. yukari doesn’t know who you are or what you look like since you don’t have any classes or clubs with her.
makoto likes to eat snacks from the school store with you outside, sitting together and listening to music. some of his friends have seen him with you after school, and the sitting together makes them wonder if theres anything going on between you two. makoto doesn’t confirm or deny their questions.

I know that I post many protagonists tags for Persona series (mainly the 25th anniversary ones), but for those who didn't know I will explain the origins of their name and what names I refer to the most in this Tumblr. Sure, you can use the other names as well, and for different names than those mentioned below you can search on the internet if you want.
Persona 1 Protagonist: While he's mostly unnamed in official media, most fans refer him as 'Naoya Toudou' from the manga, which had more personalities than in other adaptations.
Persona 2 Protagonists: The two heroes, called 'Tatsuya Suou' and 'Maya Amano' are already canon at the beginning, so no need to add more. You can rename Tatsuya if you want to in his game, though.
Persona 3 Male Protagonist: There are two canon names that I usually add when posting/reblogging, which are 'Minato Arisato' from the manga and 'Makoto Yuki' from The Movie. But I usually use the movie name though because it was used for Dancing in Moonlight and Portable remaster (if you change the language of the game) too, just like his female counterpart below for the latter. Though I use Makoto often for anything about him, sometimes I'll refer him by his surname Yuki to prevent confusion to Persona 5 character with the same first name.
Persona 3 Female Protagonist: In general I don't use stage play name for the protagonists, but 'Kotone Shiomi' is the only official name she had (names like 'Minako Arisato' and 'Hamuko Arisato' are fanmade names), so sure, I'm including her name here. This was even used in Portable remaster too.
Persona 4 Protagonist: Same as P3 Hero, with manga 'Souji Seta' and anime 'Yu Narukami' as one of his famous names. Since the latter is used the most for spinoff games and Golden remaster, I'm gonna call him Yu too.
Persona 5 Protagonist: Same as the two male protagonists before him, with 'Akira Kurusu' for the manga and 'Ren Amamiya' for The Animation, Dancing in Starlight and Royal remaster. I usually refer him as Ren in most occasions.
