The thematic implications of Caitlyn transitioning from solely a sharpshooter, to learning the ropes of hand-to-hand combat, and how it follows her growing distrust in Ambessa. If the weapon is a reflection of mentality, it prefigures Cait's mental expansion - away from narrow-minded thinking and acting from a distance. Instead of tackling from afar, she melds her skills in accuracy and deduction *with* close-up action. This is her power play. "Vision" is cait's strength (as opposed to "Might" and "Guile" and "Sacrifice") and Ambessa qualifies this with the phrase "tunnels in your eyes". Ironically, she trains Caitlyn and literally gives her the tools to pull away from her rifle-mindset. In teaching her how Noxus views strength, she offers her the keys to dismantle it
#dont get me started on how vi represents might and jinx represents guile#and how ALL of them know sacrifice#what does it mean that the three make up Noxus' tenets of strength. does it say something about unity?#does it prefigure the joining of zaun and piltover as nation in order to overcome a greater threat of external military occupation#and also the reconciliation btwn them as people on a personal familial level?#i need 500 hours to unpack this omg#arcane season 2#arcane#caitlyn kiramman#arcane spoilers#jp musings

My only defense of conceptual follower Benny is that he was a warrior nomad and a raider, that still has it in him if we take the All Roads comic into consideration, and how he is not like a real dainty soft hand city slicker, cause it’s mostly an act.
So in scenarios where he is forced to travel with the Courier I 100% think he’d be like “What do ya mean you can’t scale a mountain, pussycat? Watch how the pros do it.” And then you see him scuttle up a cliff face scarily fast only to have to save him when he bumps into a Cazador nest.
#reminder his ability stat is 6 and strength 7 so this guys moderately good at physical stuff#like in all realness military and raiders would have lower charisma and intelligence in fallout cause they may know basic stuff it’ would#usually only be for survival#cause what’s interesting about the tribes is that they are all raiders and copycats like yes they can be representative of indigenous tribe#of the wasteland it not of the culture of irl indigenous people as the game makes it clear they are just copying behavior they have heard#read or are just justifying their violent behavior cause the khans like literally read a book on the mongols and said we could bastardize#this and it’s not pointed out enough but it fits the themes of people misinterpreting the past#but back to Benny he’s like weirdly capable and I hate it but it is fascinating#he’d just be complaining other wise and then violently stab something and be like I kinda miss the old days#and then say ring a ding ding or some shit#courier six#the courier#Benny fnv#fallout new vegas#benny gecko#fallout#fnv#courier fnv

a lot of people will play dragon age 2 and they'll be like... whoa.... anders is truly a grey character who does both good and evil......
when in actuality anders blowing up the chantry was not only good but based, sexy, and inspirational and he has never done wrong a day in his life
#dragon age#anders#i refuse to believe the non-game added lore by dave gaider - via his tumblr blog - placing several hundred orphans in the chantry#there are no fucking kids in that building in the game. if we were meant to care about a bunch of fucking exploded orphans they'd be there#if we go just by who we the player see in the church a bunch of fucking shitty pastors got blown up#and given the chantry is the nonviolent part of a military org#theyre not like blameless or innocent bystanders lol#any attempt to put children in the chantry is simply an attempt to justify the violent oppressive theocracy they represent#by adding 'innocent bystanders' for anders to additionally kill#thus making him look more violent compared 2 the banality of the true horror enacted by this military theocracy's oppressive violence

tbh an important part of my take on the 'don't be like Sentinel' question is that hours earlier D16 had very decidedly assumed leadership of the High Guard, after which any attempt at resolving his very understandable personal trauma via murder was also, on a wider affects-everyone/your-new-power-means-something scale, inherently going to count as a military coup.
yknow. the thing Sentinel did to assume power/hand it over to the quintessons in the first place
#like you don't get to Be A Leader/wield power and also gratify your personal wishes/needs first and foremost#I feel like is an important part of the movie's whole ethos#sure Sentinel managed it for a bit but the point is it was unsustainable and he lost it again#tf one#transformers one#Megatron#d 16#Sentinel Prime#and tbf Orion's choice to ally with the high guard was also always gonna cause problems but in terms of like. people's general safety#it was also undoubtedly the preferable option compared to 'lets allow them to take point/call the shots'#cause the thing is honestly genuinely#if D16 had either turned his back on the high guard OR enlisted and then disobeyed orders to go after sentinel#then Orion would've been on waaaay shakier ground if he objected#cause in the kind of society they were living in vigilante justice/isolated terrorism/whatever you want to call it#would be no great sin against the ruling powers. like the 'left with no other option' argument definitely would have stood#but like. ORION is the one who's actually engaging in that shit. because he's not decided 'im the commander of an army now'#he's the commander of like. a terrorist cell made of miners. they're not a military organisation with training or much of a power structure#and meanwhile D16 is like 'this is my army now' which. okay cool but that means you are Not anything approaching a vigilante anymore#you get that right#stop operating on the assumption that that's what you are#you REPRESENT an established power structure now you're not just fighting one

So I’ve been researching voter suppression and was planning on writing a whole, overly long, data driven, boring diatribe (still might) when I ran in to this. Rep. Takano lays it out better than I could.
Here is House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Ranking Member Mark Takano addressing Republican Committee members when voting to subpoena the VA for documents regarding registering veterans to vote.
9/10/2024
“Good Morning and thank you. Prior to our January 11 vote to authorize a subpoena regarding documents in the Committee’s investigation into sexual harassment at VA, this Committee had not voted to issue a subpoena since 2016.
When I held the gavel during the last two years of the Trump Administration, this Committee did not issue a single subpoena. There were plenty of occasions we could have issued subpoenas for the sake of performance over real oversight, but we chose to put veterans over politics.
We relied on the independence of the Inspector General to thoroughly identify and investigate wrongdoing, and we chose not to interfere with ongoing investigations to score press and media hits.
Yet now, the Republican Majority this Congress has threatened to subpoena VA on at least a dozen occasions for its supposed failure to comply with the Majority’s impossible requests. This severely cheapens this Committee’s oversight authority.
We have been through this exercise several times before under the current Majority, and the script is highly predictable.
The Chairman makes a vague, onerous, and overly burdensome document request of VA with a purposely unmeetable deadline. VA produces documents in response to the request.
The Majority doesn’t like the answer they receive, screams that VA failed to meet their unmeetable deadline and then threatens to, or in this case goes through with, issuing a subpoena to compel VA to produce documents they don’t have, are already trying to produce, or have already produced.
The question we must ask is why we see such temper tantrums from our current Majority? It is not out of an earnest desire to acquire information and hold VA accountable for its failings. No, clearly it is not. Rather, this subpoena resolution, and frankly the hearing that will follow, is a red herring meant to distract veterans from the truth: that this Republican majority has absolutely nothing to show for its time in charge other than chaos, dysfunction, and paranoia.
I hope the veterans who are watching see this subpoena for what it is, an anti-democratic and purely political effort to stoke conspiracy theories and ultimately suppress efforts to help veterans and their caregivers vote. Why does the Majority want to suppress the votes of veterans and caregivers? We should want all veterans and caregivers to be able to vote. With how much control elected officials wield over veterans’ health care and benefits, the stakes are enormously high for veteran voters, and their voices should be heard. It is dumbfounding to me that my colleagues would take issue with veterans exercising their right to vote, a right they served and fought for and sometimes died to protect.
The Heritage Foundation, the same organization responsible for Project 2025, is using the Republican-led committees across Congress to suppress voter access.
They have literally published a public-facing memorandum outlining strategies to frustrate efforts to encourage Americans to exercise their fundamental right to vote.
But what makes this subpoena particularly weird and confusing, is that its underlying premise is that VA should not promote veterans’ access to voting, though it has been VA policy to do so since the Bush Administration. This policy was most recently renewed during the Trump Administration.
Even weirder, the law underpinning this policy and President Biden’s Executive Order has been in place for thirty years. The National Voter Registration Act explicitly allows states to request that federal agencies or non-governmental agencies accept the designation as a voter registration agency.
Pursuant to this law, VA is partnering with the state of Michigan to be a voter registration agency, but VA has considered partnerships with Kentucky, Georgia, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, and Nevada to help veterans access the polls.
Yet the Majority is insistent that VA’s efforts constitute electioneering or some sort of partisan political effort to affect voting in swing states and districts. How is registering veterans to vote, no matter where they are, inherently partisan or political?
Through the partnership with Michigan, VA is providing voter registration assistance to veterans in very limited circumstances when processing a change of address or during a Public Contact Team appointment. VA employees were given training by state officials, which included a review of prohibited partisan political conduct while assisting veterans with registration as required by law.
If my colleagues are so concerned with states and agencies following the letter of the National Voter Registration Act, why aren’t they spending their time repealing it? Instead, my colleagues are attacking VA for helping veterans register to vote. They are making a mockery of the Committee’s subpoena authority to the most anti-democratic end I have ever witnessed on this Committee. And I am frankly appalled that they have decided to go to these lengths to serve their political aims. This is not Congressional oversight. This is voter suppression.
In the hundreds of documents VA has already produced for the Majority, there is nothing to indicate that VA has violated the law in any way. The only thing I am concerned about in terms of VA’s actions here is why they are not doing more to register veterans to vote.
Later this week Congress is voting on the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship before registering to vote in federal elections. The Majority has no credible evidence that foreign citizens are voting in federal elections; in fact, this is already an illegal practice.
But this Majority has proven that it will never be deterred by facts or evidence, so it is no surprise they are going to plow forward with this bill. I am opposed to it and will be voting no. But what’s shocking is that in their rush to block people from voting, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have decided that blocking veterans from voting is just as important as blocking undocumented immigrants. This subpoena is a gross and obvious effort to stifle veteran voter registration. This is voter suppression.
But again, it is also a red herring, a distraction from the Majority’s inability to lead, their inability to govern, and their inability to accomplish anything meaningful for veterans.
I certainly do not have veterans banging on my door demanding to know why VA is helping veterans register to vote. However, I do have service members stationed overseas contacting my office saying that they need better access to voting – an issue I am working on. I also have veterans and their providers asking me what our plans are to ensure VA has the resources it needs to continue delivering health care and benefits to those who have earned them. So, I must ask who does this Majority serve – veterans or Project 2025?
I also must ask, to what end is this exercise? I have yet to see my Majority colleagues produce any legislation that actually addresses the issues we’ve spent countless hours of Committee time considering in hearings to help improve VA.
All I have seen is wasted time on deeply flawed bills that have no outlook for becoming law because they are Project 2025 pipe dreams that will do nothing to actually improve VA or help veterans.
Mr. Chairman, using the subpoena authority of the Committee to investigate conspiracy theories is beneath us and should never be considered.
The Committee must hold itself to the highest possible standard, because abuse of the subpoena for political gain – especially when it implicates fundamental constitutional rights – is a very real risk.
By fear mongering and stoking conspiracies that VA is doing something nefarious by registering veterans to vote, my colleagues are showing how little they trust veterans to actually exercise their right to vote. But I will say to veterans: I know how smart you are, and that you will see through the Majority’s partisan efforts.
And I know how powerful you are as a voting bloc… I have seen it and felt it.
It is important for everyone to participate in the electoral process, including veterans. And I encourage my colleagues to vote NO on this subpoena resolution. With that, yield back.”
There’s one party in America that encourages the vote. There’s one who does all they can to suppress it. What side do you want to be on?

reasons why one should join the top gun fandom
(this is totally not a post aimed directly at a specific person, such as @needtobemedicated. definitely not. me? pfff- never.)
I want to preface this post with a disclaimer: these movies and this fandom are NOT just movies and a fandom that are for american military enthusiasts and veterans. while, of course, they are and can be to an extent, they are also for other groups of people who appreciate it for very different reasons. namely, the girls and gays who watch it for the ✨plot✨.
today, I will be selling these movies and fandom to said girls and gays with the ✨plot✨ and literally nothing else because nothing else is important.
reason #1- maverick and goose friendship
look, who doesn’t need a young, smirking, snarky tom cruise in their life? AND a cackling anthony edwards in the back, providing his best friend with absolutely no help whatsoever? sign me up.
reason #2- kelly mcgillis in 1986
look at her. just look at her.
#3: ICEMAN AND MAVERICK BANTERRRR
oh my god, the bantering. there are insults, subtle innuendoes, lil’ comments thrown here and there. *sniffs* it’s such a beautiful enemies to lovers I mean, friendship.
#4. training exercises
they’re playing a big game of tag with really expensive planes. I see no downsides here.
#5. YOUNG BRADLEYYYY
goodness gracious, great balls of fire
#6. volleyball
ha. (-coming from someone who’s not that attracted to anyone in the scene.)
#7. ICE AND MAV
because there’s no forced heterosexual relationship that makes me uncomfortable to speak of. nope. instead, there’s a lovely locker scene. yes, you read that right. I’ll just…leave that there.
#8. uh…a reason to cry?
I- yeah.
#9. MORE ICE AND MAV
tom cruise does his pilot thingie with the dots and plays tag with the other planes, and saves val kilmer. it’s enemies to lovers for a reason, people.
***casually skips ahead by more than thirty years***
#10. HANGMAN
glen powell is the captain of this fandom, and any other opinion is just wrong. sorry.
#11. PHOENIX
LOOK AT HERRRRRRR
#12. BOB
anyone named bob deserves love, okay?
#13. PAYBACK
his name is rueben.
#14. FANBOY
just yes.
#15. BRADLEYYYYYYYYYYYYY
miles teller saying “you look good” absolutely destroys me
#16. pool table
also yes. (thank you miles and glen)
#17. daddy issues
what’s a good story without a healthy dose of daddy issues? (nothing. that’s what it is.)
#18. parallels
ENEMIES TO LOVERS, ANYBODY? EXES VIBES, ANYBODY??
#19. ICE AND MAVVVVVV
my jaw was ON THE GROUND THE ENTIRE TIME
#20. football
ha. (pt. 2)
#21. pov: you’re crying. again.
…
#22. miracles one AND two
trust me, you will be rolling on the ground at the sheer audacity.
#23. talk to me, dad
THE DADDY ISSUESSSSS ARE A’COMIN
#24. PARALLELS PARALLELS PARALLELS
look, glen knows what he’s doing, ok? sir knows what he’s doing with that smirk and drawl. (and by what knows what he’s doing, I mean he is gleefully dumping fuel onto the fires of hangster media while miles is standing beside him laughing) (I adore them both)
#25. and then they all lived happily ever after
…they did, ok, shut up.
there’s a full list of reasons. you’re welcome.

My mom was a high school math teacher when 9/11 happened. Every year she recounts the handful of students who had previously had other plans sign up for the military in the weeks following the attack.
It’s something else not to plan on joining the military at all, but doing it anyway, giving up everything else, knowing you are most likely going to war, because you feel a sense of urgency to protect your home with the cost of your life if necessary.
These are the men to emulate. These are righteous and good values and they should be honored and respected. You do not have to believe in every political cause and government institution to acknowledge these good men and their strength and conviction. It should be applauded. There is far too much to discuss regarding the politics of warfare, the government, the reality of war, and the reality that many join either from desperation or tyranny. So much noise that we forget the individual is not represented by these arguments. In the midst of your highfalutin political speeches and nihilistic evangelism, remember that good men exist. Good men who want to protect those weaker than them exist. Good men who want to save their loved from the harsh evils of the world exist. And the denigration of these men and their values is what will destroy us as a people (and ultimately as a country). These men and their values should be encouraged.
Honor a strong man. Be a strong man.
#I’m extremely critical of the military#and unjust wars#but it’s because I care about the men who make it up#and becuase I care about the values its supposed to represent and fight for#and a society where the default is to admire those in uniform#is generally a good thing#even if the insituation is. well. sucky to say the least

the superhero genre as a whole is full of male characters who are unusual in how explicitly they're meant to represent hegemonic masculinity (side effect of the superhero genre being fundamentally based around empowerment fantasies) but homelander is really in a class of his own
#bolo liveblogs#the boys#it's because he represents a racial and national ideal as well as a gender one. the flag cape and eagle motifs do a lot of heavy lifting.#not sure what I think of the character himself yet but it's very clear that homelander was in-universe constructed to be a symbol#of usamerican idealism and military force. but he's also just an individual human person who all these meanings have been layed onto!#...and he's a human person who's gotten used to having godlike power and no one able to impose meaningful physical consequences on him#I know some spoilers so I know he was raised in a lab rat situation but tbh I wonder if his complete lack of boundaries#(as in boundaries and social responsibility impressed *onto* him) is just as much to blame or more for him turning out so violent.

Would you ever consider writing about a different path Ice and Mav could take, one where they choose to leave the Navy and pursue a more open relationship and civilian life? Thinking it would be easier but maybe the sacrifice to their careers brings its own challenges?
(hi, jan 2024 me here, this was an ask that I answered when it was sent in in May 2023 & didn't post because I felt I actually answered it fictionally in the "icedad" one-shot the week after [and you can obviously see how these thoughts affected the writing of other pieces like "tremors & aftershocks"], but I still mostly agree with this take [though it's a little overgeneralizing] & I think it sums up a lot of my final "meta" modern-military-theory thoughts on ice & mav & their relationship, so im posting it now before I post the compacflt masterpoast)
see,… the thing is, i just… can’t see that happening!! i have no idea how to write that!!! Maybe i really do have a lack of imagination. But i can’t see that happening for a number of reasons. So short answer, no.
Long answer (and it’s long):
1. lame reason to start out, but it, uh, it’s canon that ice ends up at O-10 and mav ends up at O-6. not saying that im beholden to canon obviously (my mav ends up at O-7 and my ice ends up alive) but I do base my characterizations of them on the implications of the political struggles of both their careers so… taking away ice’s fourth star is basically starting from square one wrt my characterization of him. which is a lot of work. i could start from the beginning with a top gun 1986 ice who knows he’s gay—that would be a fun AU (i think other people than me have definitely done that better, though—I’m a one-trick pony). So if that’s what you mean then disregard the rest of this post. but if what you mean is a divergence from my existing work (i.e. homophobic/rank-climbing ice&mav) then… yeah, can’t see that happening, for further reasons below.
2. wrt my characterization of him: it’s based on a broad historical overview of armed service officers and the expectations of their careers. in my view, high-ranking officers aren’t after power—or maybe they started their careers wanting power, but somewhere down the line, it just becomes an expectation. if you do everything right and follow all the rules, you are expected by the institution to lead, whether you want to or not. That’s just the pipeline. at some point you start losing agency. which is what I mean when I keep saying ice doesn’t have a choice in advancing his career (besides the meta fact that this is fanfiction and canon demands that he have 4 stars lol)—high ranking military officers are continually and continually groomed for bigger and better positions; and the longer they spend in the military, the harder it is to leave that lifestyle for something else. And with ice’s canonical (and characteristically INTEGRAL, as I mentioned a week or so ago) refusal to rebel against the wishes of the navy as an institution, plus this historical expectation to lead placed upon the shoulders of excelling officers, I really do think ice is destined for four stars & nothing less, even if it gives him chronic depression. It’s his highest priority not because he wants it to be, but because…it just is. that’s how the institutionalized system of advancement in the military works. it just is. it has to be.
3. I mentioned in this post that I can’t ever see a foot in the door with them talking about their relationship unless maverick dies and is resurrected, and I feel the exact same way about them & their retirement plans. There’s a lot that ice and mav don’t talk about: the biggest one is obviously Goose’s death, the foundation of their relationship; but also their love for each other obv, what they did to rooster, AND their careers, which have to end at some point. Them talking about everything is totally inevitable, it was gonna have to happen eventually before they died, and I think one foot in the door MIGHT have been them eventually talking about retirement (someone sent in a prompt asking for this exactly & i am brainstorming it furiously) but before the Navy FORCES them to retire… i think they would studiously avoid talking about it. For a couple reasons: a) what does retiring with each other mean? living in the same house until they die together? hard to do if you’re just good friends. talking about retirement is tantamount to talking about Them. and b) what are they gonna do outside the navy? Ice has a lot of options, as I mentioned in the slider one-shot—general/flag officers are SUPER sought after in leadership/intelligentsia/management positions post service, so maybe if he were offered a crazy cool civilian position somewhere in San Diego in like the 2000s he would quit the navy for it… but what about maverick? I have no idea what a non-navy mav would do. Civilian airline pilot? Hoo boy. I think he’d hate that. I could maybe see emergency helicopter pilot, lol, or race car driver (i just watched days of thunder can you tell?) but none of the above offers the institutionalized honor the navy does (that, as a reminder, he *killed people* to obtain in the first place). I suggested his test piloting expertise would make him an attractive technical advising candidate to A&D companies like Boeing, LockMart, GD, etc. so that might be one option. But it might have been kind of a touchy subject for him before he racked up the expertise he’d need for those high-level civilian positions… the navy was kinda his only option. So they wouldn’t talk about it because it might hurt his feelings.
4. The biggest reason: again… open rebellion like rocking the boat by quitting the navy to be in an open long-term gay relationship, in upper mil brass ranks, and even retired upper mil brass ranks, just… isn’t done. And REALLY wasn’t done in the 2000s, when i think the scenario in this ask is positioned. And it’s not like “oh but whatever who cares about the navy, ice and mav are in love, they deserve to be happy no matter what, they should do what they want, fuck the navy…” no. Ice and Mav care about the navy. Clearly. Canonically. By necessity. The military requires cohesion and on some level repression of individuality & personal expression to FUNCTION, even when you’re retired. Yes, maverick certainly strains against that repression (which is why you Could spin top gun as an anti-military franchise if you were desperate enough), but he rebels through his ACTIONS (stupid plane maneuvers) not through his personal IDENTITY. his personal identity (headstrong overtly masculine white male pilot, whether gay or straight who cares) is NEVER challenged throughout the franchise (i.e. no one really challenges his masculinity specifically) & his personal identity does not POSE a challenge to the navy. Both he and ice in their outward-facing personal identities really fit in quite neatly to the navy’s overarching identity & contribute to the navy’s cohesion in a way that is favorable to both their careers and the establishment. Lack of imagination or not… i can’t see a universe in which Ice and mav would actively WANT to rock the boat and wreck the navy’s cohesion and their reputations for an open relationship and definitively rebellious personal identities, with the obvious caveat being Maverick’s death recontextualizing both their priorities (yes we’re in love AND we’ve finally proven ourselves to be ultra-capable officers regardless of our sexuality so no one has a license to judge us anymore etc.).
And also, they’re not enlisted seamen. Nor are they mediocre officers who have the luxury of fading into obscurity. Things are different when you’re that high in the ranks, and when your job publicly matters more. sorry, but even post DADT (probably until about biden’s election), an open relationship would end their careers. They might not be fired, but they’d never be promoted again. Too much of a liability getting subordinates to still respect them, from the higher-ups’ perspective, especially if there are other qualified candidates who fit the navy’s core identity better. Like—sorry. This is such a jaded oversimplification. But if you rock the boat like that (i.e. break the service’s united front to be individualistic in a way that does not match the service’s overarching identity), from the perspective of your officer peers, you simply are a bad officer. Being an open individual in a job where you are required to fit in and represent your service is not your job. You are not doing your job well. Straight-up. Even if you’re retired. I met US Army 4-star gen. David Petraeus (retired obv) in February—he led the successful-ish surge in iraq and Afghanistan in the mid-2000s—and he’s STILL a laughingstock for his disastrous affair with his biographer a decade ago, even after he retired from AD service. That’s what people remember him for, not the fact that he was one of our only successful commanders in any of our Middle East campaigns.
Something like that might be one of ice and mav’s worst fears—being known for their affair/scandal instead of the institutionalized honor they’ve fought and killed for. That kind of thing just Isn’t Done. It's bad taste. You have to keep it quiet. If you’re an officer representing the service, you have to represent it well & according to the service’s preconceived identity, even in retirement. (see, for another shitty example of "not fitting in" even in retirement, Lt. gen. Mike Flynn [his whole scandal is actually kinda geopolitically relevant to my fic if you squint lol] whom everyone fucking hates)
To summarize: i hope I’m not mischaracterizing your ask when i reframe it like this—would you ever write ice and mav without the institutionalized pressure to advance in rank and conform to institutional norms?
and yes, I would (and will if you ask—it looks like this: ice & mav meet & fall in love & it’s boring and fine. end of story), but I guarantee you someone else already has. I’m all about interrogation of institutional norms here. And i think until maverick dies & comes back from the dead, there is absolutely no *REALISTIC* incentive for ice & mav to leave the navy and/or have an open relationship. Like it’s just not possible. Idk how else to say it.
#which is like the whole point of my fic right. this is exactly what im trying to say with the story as a whole#these are flawed institutions stuck in their ways and ice as an officer REPRESENTS that flawed institution stuck in its ways#until real life (maverick dying) gets in the way and makes him reevaluate his priorities#and the truth is—his 1st priority (loving maverick) is absolutely incompatible with his 2nd priority (advancing his naval career)#for the reasons listed above#so he quits!#but just because he quits doesn’t mean he doesn’t still represent the navy! that’s the curse of officership#per the slider oneshot: You can’t ever retire once you get any stars.#unfortunately in a realistic world Ice really DOES owe the navy his discretion. that’s how it works.#tom iceman kazansky#pete maverick mitchell#top gun#top gun maverick#icemav#asks#edts notes#the thing with petraeus though is that his affair was notable bc he leaked a bunch of classified info to her#so not the best example but it was still cool (in like a oh you’re a historical figure sense) to meet him so I’m bragging abt it#(see tweet I just added)#additionally: the military is changing! in this universe it would be young upstart officers like rooster/hangman who contribute#to the liberalization of military officer culture!#but that kind of change Is Not happening in the 50s-60s cadre of upper level officers. At all. Ice included.#anon let me know if this wasn’t what you meant in your ask.#& feel free to disagree/argue with me this is just my view#lol the DOD just banned drag shows in the military#^ these tags are 7 months old now

#cw blood#cw gore#juliette regard dione#ajekyllsart#the first time i heard the song i almost virbrated with how much it represents juliette#i did start making her out of pettiness but then also for going a bit into the horros that is being in the military#and how she herself is both the eaten and the eater#she only started to find herself once she really started looking outside of it#but she still never wants to leave. still believing in the things she does in a very fucked up way#shes basically cannibalising herself at this point and will continue to do so till she either steps away#or dies in her line of duty and thus having finally eaten herself to completion#i just heard the song again today and had to draw her#i had another thing that was wwwaaayy cleaner and had a full on banquet table n shit#too bored of it to finish that one#anyway im rambling

Kind reminder that Captain America: Brave New World (previously named Captain America: New World Order) will be introducing Sabra, a Israeli Zionist superhero. She will be played by Israeli actor Shira Haas.
#I won't comment on the actor but I will remind everyone that in the comics this character works for Mossad and the police#as has been the case with many if not most of the comic industry it's pretty obvious the 1980 character intro was US-based political#I'm not keeping up with the news about the MCU but I've heard she'll be a US representative in the movie?#anyway. reminder.#military propaganda not even thinly disguised by the diversity wins they've been trying#MCU#Captain America: Brave New World#sabra
