Aderyn

Maedhros and Maglor, The Silmarillion: I love to suffer, okay? And therefore I love The Silmarillion. Aderyn’s appearance is inspired by Maedhros (tall, red-haired, handsome, excellent swordsman), but his temperament is more like Maglor (gentle and melancholy, after Maedhros’s death he wandered up and down the beach singing laments).

Marion/Sauron, The Silmarillion/Lord of the Rings: I love him so much it’s not even funny. For those who haven’t read The Silmarillion, Sauron was once called Mairon, and he served the gods as a blacksmith, the most talents of all, before he was seduced by the dark one, Melkor.

Frodo, Lord of the Rings: okay hear me out, I know Sauron was the cause of his suffering, but he is a perfect character to me. His journey in the book, his endurance, his fall, his pain, it’s absolutely part of my conception of Aderyn and his own journey. Frodo my darling 🥺

The Usurper

Melkor/Morgoth, The Silmarillion: so I have an incredible weakness for villains, especially tall, dark, handsome and impetuous chaos kings like Melkor. Also the Lord/Lieutenant thing he has going with Marion? The corruption arc? Perfection ❤️

Aragorn, Lord of the Rings: we love a reluctant king/horse-girl hybrid

Damen, Captive Prince: Hot? Check. Himbo? Check. Big muscles and bigger heart? Triple check. (Pls read Captive Prince)

Milian

Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister, Game of Thrones: ummm…. Well. He’s a brat and vicious, and he clutches his crown with both fists. ‘Nuff said.

Caranthir/Curufin, The Silmarillion: noticing a pattern here? Lol anyway. Like Caranthir, he’s quick to anger, and like Curufin, he’s his dad’s mini-me.

The Regent, Captive Prince: now the Regent is just about pure evil, and Milian isn’t, but he is the primary antagonist, and he is fighting in dirty underhanded ways for the crown.

Rhudd

Henry VIII, English history: vibes more than anything. As a historian, I have to say, Henry VIII has rancid vibes for me, and Rhudd has the same type of vibes. Not as many wives, though.

Feanor, The Silmarillion: so much to say about Feanor, but let me just say this: he caused allllll the problems, and the man died so angry that he exploded into flames.

Entha

Caterina Sforza, Italian history: the Tigress of Forlí! When her children were taken hostage, it’s said that she pulled up her dress, pointed to the space between her legs, and said, “Kill them! I have the means to make more!” And that, if true, is some cold shit. And very Entha.

Queen Ravenna, Snow White and the Huntsman: I picture her very much like Charlize Theron, lol. Like Ravenna, Entha is ruthless in pursuit of her power, and desperate to keep her crown. You could see her as the wicked queen to Aderyn’s Snow White, I suppose XD

Do they believe in God(s), or are they atheistic?

Yami: he does believe in gods! Many gods.

Yami comes from the Graveyard District, which is famous for two things. Its Soul Rivers and its Gods! They believe every good thing came from a god of the past. Winter has the Elder and Minor Winter Gods, there’s a Festivals god, and there’s even a goddess of life and a god of death. So… yeah. He believes in gods.

Kurai: it’s… complicated, even though he is a god himself.

If he wasn’t a god, he’d definitely be an atheist. But because he is a god, things get… a little more complicated. For him, gods are definitely real. But… not all gods are good. He believes everyone who believes in a god deserves a god… but not every god deserves their followers.

Amy: God spelled backwards is dog!

She doesn’t really think about if there’s a god or not. I mean, she’s dead! She’s more worried about when her next play date is gonna be!

Ellie: she believes in gods, but only that they exist.

Ellie’s case is odd but similar to mine, where we both believe there is a god, but we don’t actively follow them.

In Ellie’s case, raised in the Chalk City, she believed there were gods, but she doesn’t follow them nor pray to them nor anything. They don’t help the common folk… they’re kind of snobby in her opinion. Well, that was until she visited the Graveyard District after some… unfortunate events in her past.

Tomie: An atheist!

Tomie firmly does not believe a god exists. If gods existed, the world wouldn’t be such a horrible and cruel place. People wouldn’t be getting taken advantage of or getting killed if there was a god.

Nikki: Similar to Ellie

Nikki believes a god exists, but she doesn’t exactly follow one. They do make amazing muses for projects though 🤔

It takes a couple of months for Matt to track you down. You’ve rented an apartment in Barcelona, near the town centre because your working a legal gig for the Picasso Museum. Your business has been flourishing in the time you’ve been apart. You’ve bounced from Frankfurt, Vienna, Milian and now to here. Matt’s always been a few steps behind you, he’s missed you by twelve hours back in Italy.

Matt has never done this before. He doesn’t chase after women, he’s usually the one that does the leaving. The fact he wants to follow you, it speaks volumes.

When you enter the apartment he’s sitting on your couch flicking through a Spanish fashion magazine, his brow furrowed. He sets it down on the coffee table as you close the door behind you.

"I'm not giving you security details for the museum." You tell him drifting towards your desk to check your laptop. To your surprise it looks untouched.  

"You know that's not why I'm here." He says as he raises to his feet and approaches the desk. His fingertips caress the tiny terracotta dog perched on the corner. It’s new, an unusual piece, not expensive but he knows it’s a sign, one that you’re planning to stay for a while.

“No I don’t.” You say distractedly as you close your laptop. “Because you don’t give me a reason behind anything you do, why you leave, why you stay, why you turn up in my place in Barcelona. I get nothing from you Matt.”

“Avery…” He says softly, his palm coming to rest upon yours and you pull away because his touch, it always leads to the same damn thing. “You know how fucked up I am.”

“Yea,” You tell him meeting his gaze. “It’s a good excuse to hide behind when shit gets too real isn’t it?”

This right here, this is why he loves you. You see through all of his bullshit, you call him on it. You are the first person who has ever bothered to scratch beneath the surface of his psyche. The only one that sees him.

“Avery.” He whispers, catching your hand. He squeezes it lightly and your fingers twitch underneath his touch. You don’t have much mobility in it anymore, Woodford saw to that. “Please just let me show you.”

“We’ve played this game before and we both know where it leads.” You say as you draw away, your hand slipping from his. It feels like a knife plunging into his chest but he gets it, your protecting yourself because he is not a safe bet, he never has been.

You watch as he removes his wallet from the back pocket of his jeans before he takes out a ticket stub and places it on the desk beside you.

“This is from the night we went to that art show in MOMA, you were wearing that dress, the blue one with the white flowers.” He murmurs as his hands come to rest on your hips. You tip your head up to look at him and for a moment he allows himself to hope, he prays that this is the time he can finally get the words out. “I remember because…”

…that was the day I fell in love with you.

But the words they just won’t leave his lips, they die in his throat as he cradles your face between his hands, his forehead coming to rest upon yours. He realises in that moment that it’s never going to happen. Those words they’re associated with so many terrible things in his life. There’s no pleasure in them, no joy, there’s just anguish and grief.

“I can’t tell you what you want to hear sweetheart but I promise you I feel it.” Matt whispers against your lips. “I feel it with every fibre of my being."

“You should go.”  You tell him, your palm coming to rest upon his chest before you push him away lightly. “You’re just going to break my heart all over again.”

You twist away from him then, because your eyes are stinging and you don’t want him to see that weakness in you.

“Avery.” He rasps and sigh as you turn back towards him.

“Matt look…” You trail off because the last thing you expect to see is Matthew Keller on one knee in front of you, a little black box in his hand.

You recognise the ring, Alexandrite with an accent marquise cut, set between two diamond leaf clusters in a rose gold band. You’d been devastated when you’d had to sell it to pay Matt’s legal bills but you’d owed him, because he’d killed a man for you, saved you from something worse than death.

There’s a lot of history attached to that ring. It had been taken from your family in the late 1930s along with the rest of their belongings before they’d been shipped off to a concentration camp in Germany. Out of the four family members that went in only one came out, your Grandmother. That ring was the only memory she had had of her own family. It had been the first thing that you and Matt stolen together. It had been residing in a collection of stolen Jewish artwork, along with other Nazi memorabilia. The other shit that man had had in his collection…

You’d burned that place to the fucking ground afterwards.

“I hate shit like this.” Matt had told you after you’d deposited the three stolen pieces of artwork you’d managed to rescue inside Peter Burke’s porch. He’d find it in the morning, get it back to the place it belonged to.

“All she wanted is to see this ring one more time before she died.” You’d told him as you sat in the passenger seat of his car, looking at the circlet inside the tiny black box. “They took everything from her.”

“We did a good thing here tonight.” He’d told you as he’d walked you to your door that evening. “Consider this one on me.”

You’d taken him to bed for the first time that night.

And now he’s on one knee in front of you, with your Grandmother’s ring.

“I might not be able to say it.” He tells you, his eyes meeting yours. “But sweetheart trust me when I say I feel it.”

OCs as Animals Tag

OCs from my WIP On Crimson Wings:

Aderyn: a northern cardinal. Not only is it beautiful and the same colour as his hair, it can survive cold winters and can be fiercely protective.

The Usurper: a black (melanistic) jaguar. I've gone with the same colour as his hair here too, lol. He's catlike in several ways, graceful, and can be absolutely vicious when he needs to be. Jaguars are also mostly solitary, and of course very strong.

Milian: a badger. Which is a shame, because badgers are cute, and Milian (although almost as handsome as his brother, Aderyn) is decidedly not cute. But he is stubborn, single-minded, and willing to fight to the death for what (he believes) is his.

Rhudd: a grizzly bear. Rhudd was a powerful man, and inspired admiration as well as fear. He was very violent, and his reign spilled more blood than many of the kings who came before, and many after. He could have been gentle, if not for his irascible temper.

Entha: a polar bear. Entha is a frosty woman for sure, and given the chance, is as dangerous as her husband, Rhudd. She is generally protective of her family and her children, but like polar bears, is willing to sacrifice them to suit her needs (polar bears have been observed to eat their own young - video is disturbing, discretion advised).

This was fun and kind of difficult lol.

I should note, I love all the animals here, and I don't associate certain immoral aspects of the characters (Milian and Rhudd especially) with the actual animals. Badgers and bears are wonderful creatures!

Ich weiß nicht, was mein Herz alles erleiden muss. Erst habe ich meine Komplexe wegen M, dann verliere ich Herrn Schäfer und vor zwei Tagen hat Gracie-Baby ihre kitten entbunden. 4 waren es und nun leben nur noch 2. Ich hab war unvorbereitet, ich hätte die kleine Love noch retten können. Ich hatte keine Milch.. man hat schon gemerkt, dass Gracie die süße Maus verstoßen hat. Sie war so kalt, sie konnte sich nicht an Gracie festsaugen.. es tut mir so leid kleiner Engel. Jucy hat sich nicht weiter entwickeln können, daher ist es schon tot gestorben. Es tut mir leid, dass ich nicht mehr machen konnte. Irgendwann sehen wir uns wieder ihr kleinen Engel! Heute konnte ich Milian und Romeo dank Gracies Einverständnis zufüttern.. ich bin sehr stolz auf Sie!

M hat mich heute nicht wirklich kontaktiert, er hat mich kurz angerufen, was ich hoch anrechne aber ich vermisse ihn.. er hat Baustelle, bedeutet ich sehe ihn die nächsten Tage auch nicht. Ich liebe ihn sehr und vermisse ihn.. manchmal tut es irgendwie auch weh..

So sehr ich ihn auch liebe DV hat mir nach Jahren wieder geschrieben, komischerweise an einen Tag wo ich sogar von ihm geträumt habe. Der Traum war sehr hitzig.. sehr sexy und pervers. Er hat mich nach Jahren wieder gesehen, haben uns gedatet und irgendwann waren wir bei mir und haben uns geküsst. Er hat mich am Hals gepackt und mich am Nacken entlang geküsst. Eins führte zum anderen und wir schliefen miteinander.. er hat mich „gegessen“ wie ein König oh damnnnnnn die Details erspare ich euch.. haha Evl Erzähl ich irgendwann davon.. leider klingelte mein Wecker vor dem großen Oooooh… omg ich wünschte es wäre wahr geworden haha.. zumindest damals. DV war meine erste große Liebe. M sollte aber meine letzte sein. Jedenfalls habe ich DV so sehr geliebt, dass mein Herz 2 Jahre lang trotz Kontaktabbruch geblutet hat. Ich habe versucht, ihn zu ersetzen und zu vergessen aber keiner war je wie er. Weder lustig, hübsch, charmant noch sonst Ähnliches. Er war perfekt in dieser Zeit. Irgendwo wird er immer ein kleinen Teil meines Herzens haben.. das macht mir Sorge..

King Rhudd is dead. The assassin who has taken his life has also seized his throne. Now, Rhudd's eldest son, Milian, schemes for the throne, and his younger brother, Aderyn, sensitive and gentle, is trapped in the plot. Character Theme/Intro Songs

I was tagged by @writingently to share the songs that would play when my OCs enter a scene! Since only William has shown up so far in Only Human, I'm only going to do him from that WIP, but I'll also do The Stories Beneath the Stars. Which is actually going to be a lot of characters. I'm going to be nice and put this under a read more actually, and put my tags up here.

Only Human

William: Touch Tone Telephone by Lemon Demon. I actually literally came up with the original concept of Only Human by listening to a mash up of Touch Tone Telephone and Bubblegum Bitch that someone made on YouTube and yes I will share that link if anyone wants it. He popped into my mind almost exactly as is immediately. The other half? Well, went through a lot of revisions and I actually don't know if Bubblegum Bitch fully fits anymore, but hey! That's the fun part of writing with such an out there inspiration.

The Stories Beneath the Stars

Callisto: Love Like You, specifically Caleb Hyles' cover of it. This one is a little harder to explain, and really, specifically more of his inner thoughts than anything. This one really reflects how he feels about himself. He's got an image and way of being that he so desperately wants, but he doesn't feel like he can actually reach that goal. Bellamy: Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes. Bellamy is just the kind of person who loves and loves some more, and even if they get hurt in the process, they're not going to stop being open to loving others. They're just that kind of person, you know? Milian: Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet. Listen. This poor middle aged dwarf just wants to be sure he can retire. He dreams of just finding a nice home to put his feet up. He's willing to do the work first, and adopt these youngins along the way, but he just wants to relax. And @crowsnest-creations was an enabler for me to make his playlist Like That. Crag: Rats by Ghost. I don't have a good excuse for this one. She's an anthropomorphized rat lady and a barbarian ready to smash some teeth in. So she gets the song called rats that's based on the black plague. Clotilde: Live to Fight Another Day by The Cog is Dead. Honestly, the title of the song is kind of her motto. She's been through a lot, but she absolutely refuses to do anything but keep on living. Fate: A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay. Honestly, I don't really have a good reason for this one other than the fact that they're a cleric to the god of the stars, and that's the only thing they remember about their life, being an amnesiac. Garvan: This man dragon has been so hard to make a playlist for that picking one song for him is just impossible. I don't want to leave him out, but I can not actually justify any song. I think the closest I could get is Mama by My Chemical Romance, but the vibes just aren't right enough. Aeronwen: Godhunter by Aviators. It could be argued that this is the theme song of the entire WIP, which it is, but I feel like Aeronwen embodies it the best. She doesn't care what it takes, she's determined to be a force for justice in her world. And if that means going to the edges of the continent in search of the source of her world's troubles, she'll do it. Narcisa Cindergrip: Play With Fire by Sam Tinnesz. Narcisa is someone who's always metaphorically liked to play with fire, diving into the magically dangerous. On top of that, her family is named for the unique fire magic they wield.
