Oh man it just hit me. Mikhail chose the amusement park as the setting for Noé and Vanitas's duel to make it easier for Vanitas to kill Noé.
I'm sure Misha really would like to find out why Vanitas killed Luna, but Noé realizes after the fight that the whole thing was largely just a ploy to make Vanitas kill him, and I'm inclined to think he's right. Noé is an obstacle in the way of Misha's fantasy of reuniting his found family, which means Misha needs him dead ASAP.
I also think Misha may be drawn to the idea of Vanitas killing Noé rather than doing it himself or outsourcing the job because it serves as some sort of twisted vengeance for Vanitas killing Luna (and possibly harming Misha himself). Vanitas killed Luna, who he was supposed to love, so surely he can just kill his new annoying replacement loved one as well, right? Surely Misha can make him dispose of Noé the way he once disposed of Mikhail's father, no?
The whole vanoé fight is orchestrated by Misha to ensure that Noé ends up dead by Vanitas's hand, and the amusement park is the perfect setting to serve that goal, because it's absolutely fucking filled with astermite.
Almost immediately after the fight starts, Vanitas gets far the hell away from Noé and goes after him with automaton after automaton. The whole amusement park is filled with massive astermite-powered robots that Vanitas can use to attack Noé without getting anywhere near him, and he takes advantage of that fact with speed and skill. And Misha knew he would do that! Mikhail has his own Book of Vanitas, and he knows exactly what Vanitas's powers are. He chooses the amusement park as a location for the fight in order to give his brother that advantage.
The more astermite a location has, the more effective Vanitas can be, and I'm willing to bet that almost nowhere in Paris could have offered him more astermite than the amusement park that Misha decided Noé Archiviste would die in.

If Vanitas was No.69 and Mikhail was No.71 then who was No.70..?
I mean the doctor did say that if Mikhail were to die they would just move on too the next one...
Who knows how many people Vanitas had to watch die while trapped there
Or how many he had to watch die in general

The fact that these two have white hair makes me think that (their father) Count De Sade also has white hair…which would mean Teacher just has a habit of picking up (& adopting?) white-haired children.

Friends, it's been over a year since this post, but I just fucking realized.
Mikhail's mother made him dress up as a girl when he was little. This has been minimally relevant so far—just another way to emphasize how poorly his mother treated him and how little bodily autonomy he's always had. And it's entirely possible that that's all that detail was ever meant to be.
However, if Misha really was named after Mischa Lecter, a female character, then that works pretty damn well as a subtle way of connecting him back to his namesake.
Christ okay, so for AGES now, ever since I first got into trying to track all the references in VnC, Mikhail's name has been haunting me.
Just about every major VnC character name is a reference to something from literature and/or history, and most of those references are pretty obvious. It's not just some of them; it's pretty much a universal thing for any character of note.
However, for a while now, Misha has seemed frustratingly like an exception. There is a serious dearth of characters named Misha or Mikhail in the historical eras and literary canons that Mochijun tends to pull from. I've been failing to find anything for a while, and I haven't seen any other fans picking out things he could be in reference to either. He's just this apparent weird exception, despite the fact that he's an important and extremely thematically relevant character.
But today I finally realized something. The spelling is different, but there is one decently famous literary character named Misha that works as a decent parallel to VnC's Mikhail—Mischa Lecter from the Hannibal series.
For those unfamiliar, in the book version of Hannibal, Mischa Lecter's entire narrative purpose is to be the younger sibling whose horrific death motivates Hannibal Lecter's violent revenge quest. The rest of the Lecter family is killed before the children, leaving Hannibal and Mischa alone in the world together with nobody else to rely on. Then Mischa is killed and cannibalized, and thus begins her brother's career as a killer cannibal.
It's not exactly a one to one parallel, but "desperate young siblings are trapped together in a horrible situation, and then the younger sibling Mischa dies, leaving the older brother alone and vengeful" does sound rather familiar, doesn't it? As remember, according to Vanitas, our Mikhail is supposed to be dead.
It's a weird and obscure enough comparison that I'm not about to declare I've solved the mystery for certain, but personally I've yet to find a better explanation for our Misha's name. After all, the French version of Michael is usually Michel, so Mochijun choosing specifically the Russian version of the name, then having Mikhail insist on going by "Misha" is a rather conspicuous choice. There has to be a reason for what's going on there.
