"Punk rock has been homophobic forever," he tells Double J before the band return to Australia for this weekend's Good Things festival.
"I've always been scared of my sexuality in punk rock. I didn't come out as a cross-dresser till I was 45. I was terrified to be feminine.
"In the 80s, if someone had long hair, you'd get beat down by 10 people. There was no room for any vagueness."
Dumb jokes, substance abuse and railing against the system have seemed like key tenets of Fat Mike's life and career to this point. These days, his focus seems squarely on his sexual identity.
He wants the world to know who he is – a male kinkster (Mike has long been an advocate of a BDSM lifestyle) who identifies as queer – and he wants his fans to know it's okay to be who they are.
"I think it's important for someone like me, who is a popular punk musician and a bro – you know, I can hang, I'm a bro – but I'm very feminine," he says.
"I want to feel sexy, and I want to feel feminine, and I want to be submissive. And men have such a hard time with that.
"We're allowed to do whatever we want. We're allowed to be as feminine as we want to be. We're not allowed by society. So, I'm taking it on. I'm taking on being a role model that I don't wish to be, but I think it's important."
Naturally this side of his life has become a part of NOFX. Mike has worn dresses on stage for years, and recent records feature revelations about how he wants the world to see him.
'I'm not a cis, I'm a sissy' he sings on 'Fuck Euphemism' from NOFX's 2021 record Single Album.
"It doesn't help my career," he says. "When I first started cross-dressing on stage, I got shit. I got shit from people in my band. Like, 'Do you have to wear a dress every night?'
"I'm like, 'No, I don't have to. But what's your fucking problem with it? It makes me happy. And I think it means a lot to people in the crowd'."

He said...she said....and they said....

(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 125 minutes of 'Truth’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

Well...the thing with biopics (though in IMDB’s case --- apparently this film is classed as ‘historical’...which makes sense...but comes as a surprise...because I don’t usually watch titles produced by The History Channel) is that creative license usually comes into play to aid storytelling.
One example? My favourite scene in ‘Darkest Hour‘: Churchill taking the train. Joe mentions in the commentary that it did not happen.
PS: During a rewatch...I noticed one interesting thing towards the end of the credits....the film was shot in NSW! Whoa! What!? Maybe I wasn’t much in tune to the news during 2014 as I thought (Or at least....had enough confidence that what I deemed newsworthy would just find its way to me --- I guess it had...in hindsight...but...just more than 5 years later)
So of course I wondered....where this was:
(Then I found out they actually filmed somewhere in Western Sydney...so....I’m still trying to think which area most resembles that. I mean...they could have shot that in the CBD....but filmed a bulk of the film somewhere in suburbia)
PPS: After learning of how fiery the opinions are over what happened...I’m glad that the NSW Government was open to embrace the production of the film.
PPPS: The ‘Screen To Script’ for this one took awhile because I wanted to find the name of Mary’s son. Interestingly...it doesn’t exist in public! How cool is that? So I opted to go with ‘The Boy’ which was a term used to refer to him.
--------
HIGHLIGHT:
INT. MARY'S HOUSE (SITTING ROOM) - NIGHT
MARY is sitting with her son. He has a camcorder pointed at her.
THE BOY
We're sitting here with Mommy. Thank you for being here, Mommy.
MARY
Oh, thank you for having me.
THE BOY
Mommy, you were away for a long time again.
MARY
Mmm Hmm.
THE BOY
What were you doing?
MARY
I was in New York working on the news.
THE BOY
And what does that entail?
MARY
I was asking questions. Questions help reporters get to the truth.
THE BOY
Were you with the men with the cameras?
MARY
Mmm Hmm.
She nods.
He studies her closely. Eyes slightly narrowed.
THE BOY
Interesting.
His mother mirrors him.
THE BOY
Can I have a new camera, please?
MARY
We'll have to talk to your dad about that for Christmas.
THE BOY
I'm trying to get to the truth here, Mommy. Answer the question.
She smiles warmly.
MARY
I think this interview is over.
She stands and closes the camera.
THE BOY
OK.
MARY
Nice try.
--------
My verdict of the film: 8/10

The Lovely Bones (2009)
Drama, Fantasy, Thriller |
The Lovely Bones is a supernatural thriller drama film directed by Peter Jackson, and starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli, and Saoirse Ronan. The screenplay by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Jackson was based on Alice Sebold’s award-winning and bestselling 2002 novel of the same name. It follows a girl who is murdered and watches over her family from “the in-between”, and is torn between seeking vengeance on her killer and allowing her family to heal.
An international co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, the film was produced by Carolynne Cunningham, Walsh, Jackson, and Aimee Peyronnet, with Steven Spielberg, Tessa Ross, Ken Kamins, and James Wilson as executive producers.
In 1973, 14-year-old high school freshman Susie Salmon dreams of becoming a photographer. One day, Ray, a boy she has a crush on, asks her out. As Susie walks home through a cornfield, she runs into her neighbor, George Harvey, who coaxes her into an underground “kid’s hideout” he has built. Inside, Susie grows uncomfortable and attempts to leave; Harvey grabs her and the scene fades until she is seen rushing past her alarmed classmate Ruth Connors, seemingly fleeing Harvey’s den.
The Salmons become worried when Susie fails to return home from school. Her father, Jack, searches for her, while her mother, Abigail, waits for the police. In town, Susie sees Jack, who does not respond to her when she calls. Susie runs home to find Harvey soaking in a bathtub. After seeing the bloody bathroom and her bracelet hanging on the sink faucet, Susie realizes she never escaped the underground den and Harvey murdered her.

Strat-O-Matic Fanatic
One of the enduring sounds of my childhood is that of dice hitting the dining room table. (Just ask my mom.) Every morning, mostly in my junior high days, I’d squeeze in a couple of games of Strat-O-Matic baseball before I went to school. I played a ton of other sports simulation board games as a kid, but Strat-O-Matic ihas lasted well into my adult years.
If you’ve never heard of it, Strat-O-Matic was born in 1962 in Glen Head, a small town on Long Island. The office/factory is tucked away off State Route 25A, about an hour away from where I grew up. It’s hard to believe this small little business would provide so much joy to so many people. But it does.
Basically, the game takes all the statistics from the previous baseball season, creates a card for each player and then associates a dice roll with a possible outcome. All-star sluggers have a greater chance of hitting a home run, while Cy Young winners have a greater chance of striking someone out. There are plenty of advanced rules, but that’s really the game in a nutshell.
The game combines a bunch of stuff baseball geeks love. First, each player has an individual card. So, not only do you have the awesomeness of a traditional baseball card, but it includes a bunch of information that lets you determine the outcome of what that player does on the field. Next, it lets you be a baseball manager. All the strategy and decisions you ever second-guessed while watching a game are now yours. Finally, you can be a GM. Since the game is made up of individual cards, you can create your own teams.
So, that’s what I did.
I have player card sets from 1981, 1993 and 2013. If you’re doing the math, that means, yes, I bought a player card set in 1994 when I was 25 years old and dating the amazing woman who would become my wife. (I’m 99% certain I bought the cards so I could enjoy baseball during the players’ strike.) And yes, I bought another card set when I was 45 years old. Don’t judge me. By the way, the 2019 card set arrived last week.
Using the card sets from three different years, I created a Dream Team of Giants and Dodgers. The rules were pretty simple. I’d create a 25-man roster with 14 hitters and nine pitchers with as much balance as possible between the eras. Picking the rosters was more fun and challenging that I would have thought. The rest of this post outlines the teams and I’ll recap the game I played later. I welcome your input on the choices I made on the roster!
I’ve tried the computer version of Strat-O-Matic and there’s another simulation called Out of the Park that’s even better. I’ve also played MLB The Show and other arcade-style games that are incredibly realistic. But for me, nothing can replace the classic Strat-O-Matic, mainly because I have to keep score with a pencil and scoresheet, just like I do at the ballpark. And the sound of the dice hitting the dining room table will always take me back to a different time.
Giants
1981 was a split season because of a labor dispute. The Giants finished one game over .500 for the whole year; fifth place in the first half and third place in the second. The 1993 team was one of the best in San Francisco history and won 103 games, but didn’t make the playoffs because they were in the same division as the Braves, who won 104. And the 2016 team marked the end of the world championship era. The team had a fantastic first half, but a bad bullpen and the first sign of an aging core fell apart against the eventual world champion Cubs in the ALDS.

Dodgers
The 1981 Dodgers won the World Series. They beat the second-half winning Astros, the East champion Expos (!) and finally the Yankees to take the crown. Fernando-mania was at its peak. Lasorda was in the dugout. L.A. ruled. By 1993, not so much. It’s hard to remember when the Dodgers were a .500 club, but they were that year. By 2016, they had started to reestablish their World Series credentials with a core that would reach the Fall Classic – and lose – in 2017 and 2018.

July 4th is a time for fireworks, picnics, and vacations. And, traditionally, it’s a time for the staff here at Track ‘Em Tigers to take our annual week’s vacation.
The 4th of July also signals an important time in the world of college football. There isn’t much football news in the middle of the summer. However, after this week that changes, especially with the start of SEC Media Days.
We appreciate all of you who make TET a part of your daily lives and wish you a happy and restful holiday. We will be back with our regular postings following July 4th week.
In the interim, we will be preparing a list of names for our readers to consider for the 2018 class of Track ‘Em Tigers Auburn Football Hall of Fame.
Nominations from our readers are welcomed. So if you would like to nominate some players or coaches, please look over the list of rules for the selection process below. TET’s Hall now includes seventy-one former Auburn players and coaches. You can find a list of those names at the end of this article.
The rules for the selection process are:
(1) Nominate only one person from each of the following positions: QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST, and Coach.
(2) We have two classifications for nominations. One representing players from the last 40 years and one representing Tigers who played before 1979.
(3) To be eligible, players and/or inactive coaches should have been out of college for five years. Eight names will go into the 2019 class and may come from any period in Auburn history.
(4) Although it would be good for you to have seen the nominee play or coach (at least on television), we recognize that in some cases that would not be possible.
Tell us in the comment section why you think a player or coach is deserving of the nomination or just list his name. If your guy has already been nominated, you can still nominate him—an action that will simply add to the nominee’s weight for placement on the final ballot.
Towards the end of this week, we will publish a ballot/poll to decide which nominees will make up the 2018 class of TET’s Auburn Football Hall of Fame.
On behalf of the staff at Track ‘Em Tigers, thank you in advance for your help. War Eagle and, once again, we wish you all a safe and enjoyable 4h of July.
Editors note: The names of the sevent-one current members of TET’s Hall of Fame are listed after the jump.
