New Music: 2Mex - Hang On Alex LP

Salute to the fam 2Mex for steadily putting out quality music through 2 plus decades. This brotha is one of the first artists I can remember seeing when I started attending shows. It was at either Elements or Unity around 97 or 98.

From there on I followed his career as a solo artist and with his crew, Visionaries. I have so many recordings of them from my days of being everywhere with a camcorder. By the way, peep the YouTube channel, and please subscribe if you have not already!

I am pleased to have gotten to know 2Mex over these years, as well as have him perform at multiple shows of mine, most recently our 13 year anniversary two years ago.

Alex is his real name, and by far is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. 2Mex has dealt with major health issues in recent years, and I’m sure his music is just the therapy he needs to stay positive and motivated.

Please check out the new release, Hang On Alex. It’s one hell of an album, featuring Ozomatli, Will.i.am, Ceschi Ramos, Stacey Dee, Shapeshifters, Barfly, and The Visionaries.

2Mex executive produced the album himself and the artwork was done by AWOL One. The Will.I.am assisted “Los Angeles Underground” is my favorite track, and one of the best odes to where we come from that I have ever heard.

“Connie Stevens was just another Monroe-style starlet with platinum hair and a little girl voice when she first hit Hollywood in the late fifties. Had she appeared on the scene just a trifle earlier, that image probably would have stuck. However, by the time Connie started to make the rounds, the Era of the Teenager was in full flower, so Warners decided to turn her into the girl-next-door type – a sort of singing Sandra Dee. (In Susan Slade, for example, Connie played an unwed mother who eludes public disgrace by pretending that her illegitimate son is her brother). All things considered, Connie Stevens was one of the few studio-manufactured teen stars of the fifties who managed to hold onto lasting stardom. She continues to show up in things like The Hollywood Squares and Grease 2 and of course her celebrity hasn’t been hurt by her much-publicized marriages to actor James Stacey and the inimitable Eddie Fisher.”

What happens if you're born Turkish but with an American first name (I am half Turkish my mom gave me traditional Southern name, she is called Pinar tho). I'm just confused??? Like if someone calls their half Turkish character a white boy name then... Or what. I have friends and family who were born in Turkey and they are called stuff like Stacey etc. some of them are traditional Reyhan and Miray. It really depends on the family. Not everyone adheres to cultural names btw

hey baby, obviously there are exceptions to every single ethinicity out there. people with names that don't necessarily match their cultural background BUT this is tumblr dot com and we are using real people as faces so i think respecting their background is the very least we can do. i can not speak for turkish people but when people use latin fcs with names that don't match their background is pisses me off because if people don't always have latin names here, it doesn't give you the right to erase that part of them for a character you've built. anyway, here's an answer from dee's (@gvzel) faq that i think explains it even better.

also, you're free to name your muses as you wish, in the end of the day it's your call and it's indie so to which their own BUT i have the right to pick and choose guidelines for the usage of my gifs and that's a big one for me <3
