"Directors of the Monsterverse" notes
The one featurette exclusive to the 4K Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse 5-Film Collector's Edition set is also just up on Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu) for free. It's possible that the disc version is longer, but what's on streaming has a hefty 49:06 runtime, so I doubt it.
Notes on the discussion:
The venue is Warner Bros. Stage 11, "where Casablanca and ER were shot."
No closed captions, boo.
Skullcrawler egg props from Godzilla vs. Kong were present, as well as the goofy Godzilla suit used to promote King of the Monsters.
Mike Dougherty brought one of his dogs. (Recall that the his dogs inspired the personalities of Ghidorah's three heads.)
Jordan Vogt-Roberts took Adam Wingard out to dinner shortly after he was hired to direct Godzilla vs. Kong, warning him what to expect on his first mega-budget movie (a "Scared Straight thing"). That led to the Monsterverse directors meeting up more regularly.
Vogt-Roberts relays an analogy from producer Eric McLeod: trying to do something spontaneous on a larger film set, like changing a shot angle, is like steering an aircraft carrier.
Gareth Edwards described the feeling of visiting a Godzilla set that wasn't his own movie (King of the Monsters) as like "walking in on your wife cheating on you."
The ever-escalating zaniness of the Monsterverse films wasn't carefully considered, it just happened; Wingard, for one, felt it wasn't possible to return to the tone of Godzilla (2014) after King of the Monsters.
Dougherty describes a Toho Studios visit where he wore part of a Godzilla suit.
Vogt-Roberts never imagined that the Hollow Earth introduced in Kong: Skull Island would become so integral to subsequent films.
The opening credits for Godzilla (2014) were inspired by the JFK credits.
Edwards ordered a ton of G-Fan back issues to prepare for directing Godzilla, and was surprised when the package included a note from J.D. Lees apologizing for bashing Monsters in one of those issues.
Wingard carefully maneuvers Edwards away from saying that following King Kong vs. Godzilla was a much easier task than following the original Godzilla or King Kong, as he should.
Dougherty says he's glad that they as a group gave Kong a happy ending ("for now").
Vogt-Roberts doesn't accept that Kong lost against Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong because their battle against Mechagodzilla was part of the same fight; embarks on a lengthy military analogy. Wingard disagrees vociferously. Dougherty tries to say something but Edwards advises him to "let them fight."
Vogt-Roberts wanted Kong to have brown fur to reflect the rabbit fur used on the original stop-motion model.
Edwards jokes that they kept trying variations on Godzilla's design until "someone came with a gun and went, 'If you don't stop now, the movie doesn't get released.'"
I think there's a behind-the-scenes shot of Mothra (showing the layers of VFX that went into her waterfall emergence) that wasn't in the King of the Monsters bonus features.
Ready Player One was released just as Wingard's team was settling on Mechagodzilla's Godzilla vs. Kong design; he was dismayed to hear about it at first, then relieved to see how different it looked.
Vogt-Roberts really wants to see Hedorah turn up in the Monsterverse.

Many interesting covers appears in the several media situations that favour the juxtaposition such versions bring. For instance, Screaming Females covered Taylor Swift and they did a great job with the tune despite the haphazard situation, though the show they played that on thrives on that. Then again, maybe that might be a reason their version works. One gets a hunch they just decided to have some fun, so they transformed the piece into a confection of alternative rock, which does make sense â the best way to remodel the hit songs could be to bring them into another genre. This is also the way, which can show how good a pop musician really is â if one's great, then his compositions benefit from being covered.

How Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson got under each otherâs skin for âA Different Manâ
Adam Pearson and Sebastian Stan both know what itâs like to have people stare at them and be made to feel like they owe the public something.(Sean Dougherty / For The Times)
By Tim Grierson
When Adam Pearson was young, he rubbed elbows with celebrities. âI was at Great Ormond Street Childrenâs Hospital, one of the best pediatric institutes in the world,â he recalls of the London facility, âand they often had famous people come in to meet the kids. I met Boyzone, a big Irish boy band in the â90s. The other one was Princess Diana.â The British actor was 5 when he was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis Type 1, a condition that resulted in the growth of large tumors across his face. Those tumors would often cause passersby to gawk cruelly, which made Pearson feel an unlikely kinship with the notable figures who stopped by the hospital. âI was like, âOh, these people get the same staring and pointing I do, but people seem to like them.â I wasnât resentful, it was just an observation I made as a 12-year-old: âOh, OK, thatâs fascinating.ââ
Decades later, Pearson, who turns 40 in January, is on a Zoom call from London alongside his co-star Sebastian Stan, beaming in from New York, to discuss their thought-provoking, satirical film âA Different Man,â which is all about appearance and perception. Writer-director Aaron Schimberg introduces us to Edward (Stan), a struggling actor with neurofibromatosis who believes heâll be happier once he undergoes an experimental procedure that removes his tumors, revealing the sexy man underneath. Later walking around New York with a new identity â that of the slick real estate agent Guy â he discovers that the aspiring playwright he pined for, Ingrid (Renate Reinsve), has written a drama about his former self, who will be portrayed by Oswald (Pearson), a happy, charming man with neurofibromatosis. Guy looks on in horror as his old life is played with such flair by Oswald, who steals Ingrid away as well. Maybe it wasnât his condition that had held him back â maybe it was just him.
Stan, 42, found two-time Oscar-nominated makeup artist Mike Marino to craft the realistic mask for Edward. But there was something even more important for Stan to get right. âI wanted to talk to Adam about how he was feeling about myself playing this part and having someone step into these shoes without neurofibromatosis,â he says. âJust really trying to be mindful and understand how I need to approach this so I can be of service to the character but also to somebody who actually has this condition.â
It was during those initial conversations that Pearson, who previously appeared in âUnder the Skinâ and starred in Schimbergâs 2018 drama âChained for Life,â gave Stan, best known as the Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the insight that living with neurofibromatosis was not dissimilar to being famous. âThey both come with certain levels of invasiveness,â Pearson explains. âYou almost become public property. The public feels that you owe them something. So while Sebastian might not know the staring, the name-calling, the camera phones in a way I do, he certainly knows what itâs like to have people think [they] deserve to have a selfie with him.â
Sebastian Stan plays an actor with an ugliness inside, Adam Pearson plays the disfigured actor who is charming and confident, and Renate Reinsve is friend to them both. (Matt Infante/A24)
The absolute honesty between the two actors was crucial for a film that is candid about the stigmas around disfigurement. Schimberg, who became friends with Pearson during âChained for Life,â also drew from his own experience with a cleft palate. âAaron is such an incredible writer â heâs set up these things that rope you in as a viewer to judge Edward because of his appearance,â Stan says. âWe project these stereotypical thoughts: âHeâs lonely, somebodyâs taken pity on him.ââ
But with Oswald, âWe havenât made the connection yet that someone like Adam could actually be OK with themselves â and not only that, incredibly confident and accepting of themselves as they are.â
Indeed, âA Different Manâ toys with our expectations, depicting Oswald as the life of the party, while the conventionally handsome Guy is riddled with insecurity. Unsurprisingly, Stan and Pearson have noticed that viewers sometimes donât know what to make of Schimbergâs acerbic sense of humor.
âIâm always looking around to see whatâs landing and what isnât landing, because Iâve never had an audience react the same way,â Pearson says, amused. âEveryone finds different things either funny or uncomfortable.â
âThe film asks very important questions in terms of disability and disfigurement,â adds Stan, âbut we can also offer people permission to experience the film as they might. It is funny. Aaron Schimberg has said, âIf you think this is a comedy, thatâs fine â if you think this is a tragedy, thatâs fine too. Itâs both.ââ
Much has been made of Stanâs recent so-called risk-taking performances, including in the Donald Trump biopic âThe Apprentice.â (He won Berlinâs lead actor trophy for âA Different Man.â) âOne of the reasons Iâve lately gravitated more toward what Iâd call âtransformationalâ roles is because they do make it easier to lose yourself and to stay in it for the entire time,â suggests Stan, who lived in Romania and Vienna as a child. âI wanted to be an actor because it saved my life. I grew up in a very weird, chaotic time. I was always searching for identity â I came to this country when I was 12, and it was a shocking experience. Acting was a way of release and communication â it was a language, in a way, and it allowed me to understand myself.â
Pearson understands that sentiment. âThereâs something inherently terrifying about putting yourself out there,â he says. âWhen I first got into TV when I was 25, one of my friends gave me what we now lovingly call âthe talk of doom.â He was like, âYou are going to go on TV, and people watch TV â if they donât like you, they will tell you on whatever platforms you are on. Do you think you can handle that?ââ
He could, and his work in âA Different Manâ has only raised his profile. Now heâs the one whoâs a celebrity, although he acknowledges those old anxieties remain.
âEven now, my friends are like, âArenât you just a little bit scared that people are going to [not like you]?â Iâm like, âYeah, Iâm always scared,ââ Pearson says. âOption A is, âDonât do it,â and then Option B is, âDo it scared.â And Iâd rather do it scared than not do it at all.â

Regarding that one ask, I heavily disagree with it and I dare say that person is completely wrong about Godzilla's intentions. Based on what these pages from Godzilla Dominion shows, as a well as Mike Dougherty's own tweet regarding this fic, it's nowhere near as one-sided as some people think it is, and as you can see, Godzilla himself remembers Serizawa's sacrifice as well as the time he lived alongside humans, seeing as his definition of home is a place where he lived with humans that loved and worshipped him.
But wait, there's more! Before certain people come out and say that those aspects have been "retconned", Godzilla is shown to be sleeping peacefully at the Roman Colosseum in GxK, and in the novelization, it flat out says that he sleeps there because misses his old temple at KOTM and that he might still have a soft spot for people. Not to mention in GxK in general, Godzilla clearly has a connection with the Hollow Earth Iwi tribe. Who are, you know, humans.
Also Monarch: Legacy of Monsters further reaffirms that Godzilla is ultimately a benevolent being who's just doing his job keeping titans and humans from harming each other.
If people can accept the idea of a giant apes being benevolent protectors with zero strings attached, then there should be no problems accepting that the giant lizard is exactly like that too, especially because there's been no real evidence to say otherwise (and again, like the examples I've shown and mentioned, they actually further prove that Godzilla is indeed a benevolent protector and that Serizawa / Monarch, as well as other people who similarly trust in him like Shaw, is right to trust in him). And if people say that it can't be the case because "rEpTiLeS cAn'T fEeL fEeLiNgS jUsT LiKe MaMmAlS cAn", well then I am sorry to say, but Mothra disproves that just by existing.
Because hey, if you make a false equivalent between these fictional giant monsters and real life animals they took inspiration from, then by that same logic, Mothra should be an emotionless thing that acts only based on instincts and self-preservation because she's a giant insect. But she doesn't, and she's a genuine protector who also goes out of her way to avoid killing (even sparing those who attack her whenever she can) and in GxK, she even goes out of her way to save humans. Not even Kong did that in the movie btw, and if anything, the movie shows that Kong accidentally kills some humans in Egypt.
But yeah. It's really exhausting how these people just keeps reducing Godzilla's more nuanced character traits. Especially since Godzilla has always been a sympathetic character going as far back as the original 1954 movie (though Heisei era is the best example of that), but for some reason, these people now suddenly have a problem with that just because Godzilla shares screentime with Kong. And in these people's logic, Kong is Good because he's mammal and therefore relatable, while Godzilla is BAD because he's reptile and therefore "not relatable".
If people in real life can compare their pet lizards to dogs and treat them with as much love as they would a dog, we can have Good Guy Godzilla (who is still a big ol' grump willing to put down repeat offenders like Scylla while being nostalgic for humans and being anxious without Mothra's presence). It's okay. We can have a Godzilla who maintains the worldly balance while still being a proud warrior beast who enjoys fighting and when he's not fighting he can even feel lonesome in some way, these are not mutually exclusive.

Mothra's...MOTHER?!?!?!
Guys, remember about Mike Dougherty's about Mothra's memories are still intact every rebirth?
So let me guess, if this Mothra in GxK is the KOTM Mothra's mother, then she is the pathway of the Hollow Earth and the surface world. What I mean is that, she probably laid some eggs somewhere on the surface world to further continue their lines.
Does that imply about the lore of Mothra's past, and the symbiosis of Godzilla and Mothra?
Was she, the Mothra Prime?
Your opinions are valid, if you are curious, shocked, or confused, then comment down below...
Also, here are some of the users' comments:
#OKAY MORE PEOPLE STILL DOESN'T BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNOW THE REAL MOTHRA AFTER KOTM EVENTS#COULD IT BE POSSIBLY ABOUT THE DISCUSSION ON WINGARD'S OR DOUGHERTY'S?#SINCE THE ART BOOK CONFIRMS ABOUT MOTHRA'S MOTHER I WAS SKEPTICAL AND HECTIC#MAN IF THIS GXK MOTHRA IS CONFIRMED TO BE THE KOTM MOTHRA THEN GO AND BE DONE FOR IT#godzilla#mothra#monsterverse#kaiju#godzilla x kong: the new empire#godzilla king of the monsters#godzilla kotm#gxk#concept art book#Should I least to say as Mothra Prime?

đŹ Mike Bobis: âI wonder what Dem would be like now. Probably still trying to talk me into doing things I know I shouldnât but would, simply cause itâd be easier than dealing with her giving me shit for not doing them. I do miss them [Demri and Layne]. Theyâd be the best hippie parents ever. We could barely get Dem to wear a shirt sometimes. Oh Dem, the wild child.â
đŹ Amber Ferrano: âDemri was just a girl who wanted to follow her dreams... She wanted to marry a man she loved, have kids, and live on a block with all her friends so we could watch each otherâs kids, garden together and borrow sugar". đŹ Fabiola Gonzalez: âShe always said, âWhatâs the big deal? I have a boyâs chest!â. Best parents ever. I miss that they werenât here to share in it. When Kurt [Cobain] passed I came to Seattle and saw Dem, and she put her ear to my pregnant belly and said, âIsnât it wild? Two boys!â. When the boys were less than a year old, I went to Mad Season with Layneâs stepdad. After the show, I showed him pictures, and Layne saw my sonâs photo and grinned, âHes got big ears!â. They always wanted children. I met Demâs baby sister [Christa Dougherty] and Layne held her close. They wanted, but they knew their âconditionâ. The last time we saw her was at Wedgewood, she made sure to come out to our car and give my sons lovinsâ in their car seats, they were barely two years old. I saw it in her eyes and felt it in her soul. How I wish and hoped Demri would be around here for a while and have her own, and share in the joy of babies. She would have been a beautiful mom. Besides my boys, they were the loves of my life. They were so full of life! Thatâs what they left us â live life love. Never take it for granted, never abandon children!â
đŹ: âI knew Demri before she was with Layne, she was a good friend. I always thought she was going to be famous, but not like this. She should have been a photographer or in the theater. We talked a lot about leaving our little school and doing cool things. Looking for words here, I am so sad. I seen her one more time when she got back from art school, then it was my time to leave. I always thought we would see each other again and would share some great stories, not this. It wasnât neat or cool, itâs heartbreaking.â
đŹ Amber Ferrano: "More than anything, I am so sad that Layne and Demri were good people and had to go through such sorrow; life could be so different and wonderful for them now... I remember when Demri died people were using the phrase, âWhat a wasteâ. Kathleen was hurt by that and would say, âMy daughterâs life wasnât a wasteâ. I felt âIt was a âwasteâ in that Demri did not get all the great things she deserved back in life. I think we all would have loved to see that happen for her..." Â
đŹ Fabiola H Gonzalez: âI just know that Layne and Demri dreamed of having kids. The dream was marriage, kids and the white picket fence, and part of the dream was a lot of art, expression and unconditional love.â
đŹ Carolyn Hart Gutierrez: "I always imagined that she grew up and became a happy little momma who would teach her children to believe in magic and that if you wish on a star your wish will come true, and to dance in the rain. That's what I believe. Demri may be gone, but she is never forgotten."

whatâs the dynamics like between mike, minevra and patrick (and any other ocs in your universe i havenât mentioned). do they get along well? do they hate each other? first impressions? aaaa i wanna know everything about them
Mike and Minerva have your typical dysfunctional southern sibling bond , they may argue and fight. but at the end of the day they deeply care about each other. Mike would go through absolute HELL for his sister and he has done it before. The Dougherty siblings had a very hard upbringing due to their fatherâs abuse. Their father , Norman Dougherty was your typical alcoholic blue collar husband and father. Heâd work hours on end , go out to drink and come home to argue with his wife to the point where Michael had to defend his mother physically. Minerva grew up watching her brother take blows to the face , belts across his back and spit being slung across his face from his fatherâs incoherent drunk babbling. Minerva always viewed Mike as her protector and her real father figure since he practically raised her himself. After the loss of Mikeâs actual daughter , Leia. Minerva and Mike grew closer, since in reality. She would always be his first kid he raised.
Now , originally patrick was going to be Minervaâs boyfriend but from some feedback from a friend. I fancied the idea of âexâs who canât move onâ trope. Minerva was the first girl trick had ever dated that showed him genuine love. Even whenever he was an active drug addict ( and still kind of is ) she never viewed him as someone to shun and despise. Minerva was very understanding and knew how addiction ruined peopleâs minds. they dated throughout their early twenties but found themselves falling apart whenever trick found himself relapsing more than ever , knowing sheâd forgive him. It caused arguments , but the two broke it off whenever he had gotten arrested for trying to steal off the Doughertyâs property to go sell whatever it was to a pawn shop for drug money. Even after that incident, they were hung up on each other regardless. Minerva tries her best to not take him back , but itâs hard being around him whenever sheâs best friends with his sister Autumn. In all honesty , Minerva wished he kept his promise on being sober. she genuinely loved that boy with her whole heart and as did he. perhaps theyâre nothing more than the good old saying âright person, wrong timeâ. meanwhile Mike hates him with a deep burning passion because heâs very protective over his sister and hates to see her be treated so wrong by men who have no respect for her or her family. He genuinely hates the boyâs guts.
Autumn and Minerva have been friends since elementary school, if anything. theyâre the sisters they dreamed of but got stuck with annoying dysfunctional older brothers instead. They are always around each other , almost inseparable if I must say so myself.
Wade and Autumn are exâs , yet they donât get a sweet ending like Minerva and Trick. Wade , cheated on Autumn as what he said was an attempt to â see if she actually loved him â in his mind this was a good idea. yet in reality. he left the poor girl in shambles. Minerva and Autumn still talk to him, but the one thing Mike and Trick can agree on is hating Wade with a deep burning passion.
There are new characters coming soon so hopefully I can add them to this list and post later on!

Directed by Mike Dougherty, the film centers on Sam, a mysterious creature enforcing Halloween traditions. Despite its rocky start, "Trick 'r Treat" has found a cult following, praised for subverting genre tropes and blending horror with dark humor.
