According to NBC here in the US, the missing titanic sub has been found. As debris. Off the bow of the Titanic wreckage.
And it looks like the sub suffered what we all suspected, and what was undoubtedly the more merciful of the two options: a catastrophic implosion from the pressure.
Also, more info has come to light about the fishing trawler with the hundreds of migrants that sank cataclysmically off the coast of Greece, indicating that the greek coast guard knew about the vessel AND how much trouble the vessel was in, and were towing it at a speed that made it capsize, at which point they unhooked the tow line and watched the trawler sink without helping the passengers to safety. Despite a bunch of other ships trying to help as well throughout the whole ordeal.
So a lot of people are dead, all because of regulations (and the lack thereof) regarding sea-faring vessels and rescue protocols. People shouldnt be allowed to make a business charging a ton of money for a ride on an uncertified, unsafe, un-seaworthy ship going deep into the ocean with no distress beacon or tether to the mothership. People also shouldnt be allowed to enact laws that criminalize the ferrying of refugees, which then force the refugees to hitch rides on fishing trawlers, and which also prevent people from helping those fishing trawlers full of refugees due to fear of legal consequences.
Hopefully BOTH of these events spark changes on an international scale in terms of what is legally allowed to be sailed, who is legally allowed to be the passengers, and what the rescue protocols are in the event of disaster for any seafaring vessel, illegal or not. It shouldnt be just the global 1% who get 24/7 search parties and remote-operated submersibles helping rescue them.

“When there's nothing left of the classical world, when all the peasants and artisans are dead, when industry has run the cycle of production and consumption without respite, then our history will be over.”
~ Pier Paolo Pasolini
Riace, Calabria, Italy
The poor village of Riace, located on the Ionian coast of Southern Italy's Calabria, was a ‘ghost town’ until it revived socio-economically by hosting refugees. The Mayor Lucano proposed the refugees should stay in the village and take over the abandoned homes.
The multiculturalism, the variety of skills and personal stories which people have brought to Riace have revolutionised what was becoming a ghost town.
Riace reconfigured the idea of immigration as a danger to tradition and challenged the European Union and Italian government’s interpretations of humanitarianism to distract attention from a migration-hostile environment.

The fact that y’all think migrants drowning in the Mediterranean is NEW NEWS…this happens so painfully often. You do not get to tell us how upset we should be. We KNOW.

fuck that submarine i thereby implore you to read this report and any further reports on this tragedy i know it’s fun to explore the mental gymnastics behind the idiocy of the rich and the phenomenon of a white man’s hubris but the lack of response and acknowledgment bothers me so much

Okay but genuinely, how many of you really cared about the migrant crisis and those drowning in Greece before the media started focusing on the missing sub?
Cause a lot of this reeks of whataboutism or virtue signaling when I didn’t see ANYONE talk about it the days it actually happened.
I did see news outlets talking about it tho, but I guess that doesn’t fit very nicely into your narrative.

Not to be that person but everyone I've seen saying 'we shouldn't be making jokes about the billionaires on the submarines. They are real human lives at stake' are real fucking quiet when migrants desperately fleeing their home countries for better lives lose their lives on boats. Where is the compassion there? They are real human lives too.

Riace, Calabria, Italy
Riace: The Italian village abandoned by locals, adopted by migrants
The hilltop medieval village of Riace on Italy's south coast was almost a ghost town 15 years ago. Houses were derelict and the local school was near to closing.
The village was in danger of becoming extinct as residents disappeared to northern Italy, and abroad, for jobs during the economic boom.
Since then Riace has seen a change in its destiny, by openly welcoming a controlled number of migrants, who live and work as part of the community.
This transformation was instigated by the mayor, Domenico Lucano, who set up a scheme, funded by the Italian government, to offer refugees the abandoned apartments and training. It has helped to rebuild both the town's population and economy.
"I do nothing more than what I think is right for our little community," says Lucano, who started the pioneering programme in 1998.
"The multiculturalism, the variety of skills and personal stories which people have brought to Riace have revolutionised what was becoming a ghost town.
"There were people without a house here, and there were houses without people here. It's simple."

One in Three Migrant Deaths Occurs En route While Fleeing Conflict: IOM Report
Drowning as the Leading Cause of Death: Nearly 60 per cent of deaths documented during migration are linked to drowning with over 27,000 related deaths in the Mediterranean alone.  Despite political commitments and media attention, migrant deaths are on the rise, with 2023 marking the highest annual death toll on record when over 8,500 deaths were recorded. So far in 2024, the trends are no less…

4 migrants die as boat capsized off Greek island of Samos
At least four migrants died in the eastern Aegean Sea on Monday when a small boat carrying them from neighbouring Turkey sank near the island of Samos, Greek authorities reported.
The coast guard said five more people were rescued after the accident, but it was unclear how many were on the boat or if they were missing.
The bodies of the four women were recovered in a massive search and rescue operation involving three Coast Guard patrol boats, a private vessel and an Air Force helicopter. Crews also searched ashore in case survivors managed to make it to shore.
The Coast Guard said several migrants were later found on the island of Samos, but it was not immediately clear whether they were survivors of the shipwreck or had arrived separately. At least 30 migrants were initially on board the ship, according to the coastguard.
Greece was a favourite entry point into the European Union for migrants and refugees from the Middle East, Africa and Asia in 2015-2016, when about 1 million people landed on its islands, mostly in inflatable boats. The flow of people declined but increased again last year.

The Federal Police were able to determine the victims’ origin thanks to their documentation and belongings, and are now trying to identify the bodies Nine decomposed bodies were found Saturday on a boat that drifted to the coast of Brazil. On Tuesday, Brazil’s Federal Police reported in a statement that signs indicate that “the victims were migrants from the African continent, from the region of Mauritania and Mali.” The boat was located by fishermen off the coast of the Brazilian state of Pará, on the other side of the Atlantic, 2,600 miles from the Mauritanian coast. After towing the boat ashore to the municipality of Bragança, Brazilian police officers inspected it on Monday and, thanks to the documentation and belongings found with the bodies, were able to identify its origin. It is likely that the boat is one of the many that make the dangerous journey to Europe. Many set sail from Mauritania towards Spain’s Canary Islands, where there has been a surge in migrant boats. So far this year, more than 14,000 African migrants have arrived in the Spanish archipelago via this route — six times more than in the same period in 2023.
