"I've known this woman for nine years, and I've never seen her do the kind of things she's done in the last nine hours."

I recently saw a post that claimed Renee completely changed once she met Jack, but that's not at all true. An interpretation post isn't necessary, but I'm doing one anyway.

There's a need to read between the lines where Jack and Renee are concerned. It was different between him and Audrey because of the difference in the way they were written. With Audrey, they were dating before she learned about the torture. With Renee, she knew about the torture before they got romantically involved.

Jack and Renee

They start out with the issue of torture, that's why Jack is sitting in a senate hearing.

Senator: Did you torture Mr. Haddad?

Jack: According to the definitions set forth by the Geneva convention, yes, I did.

Both Larry and Renee know about Jack's torture. Despite knowing, they pull him away from his senate hearing for the sake of getting his help in finding Tony.

Renee: Sir, we need Mr. Bauer immediately.

Larry so much as slams Jack for his torture in front of Renee.

Jack: That's a mistake. You don't have time to go through the motions with Schector. You serve him with a warrant, he'll call his lawyers, he'll stall as long as he needs.

Larry: So, what's the alternative, Jack? Break in and torture the guy like you used to do? Isn't that how you ended up in front of a senate sub-committee? Oh, is this how it starts? You get in my face, tighten your jaw, then if I say something you don't like, you slam me against the wall?

Neither Larry or Renee know what Jack does because they don't use torture at the FBI. Truth is, they can only assume what he does.

Jack: You have no idea what I do. And last time I checked, you subpoenaed me. You want my help, you want my advice, take it. You don't, don't. I don't care.

It's at this point Renee interrupts because she and Larry are on a different wavelength where Jack is concerned. The first thing she does is show Larry that Jack is of value to them by asking him about their target. It's also at this point that it's time to start reading between the lines. Jack tells Renee that Schector knows him, knows about his use of torture.

Renee: Mr. Bauer. You said you used to work with this man, Schector. How (well) does he know you? Jack: He knows me. (Knows about his use of torture.)

Once he proves he's of value to them, Renee pulls Larry aside. I'm gonna break this conversation down a little bit.

Renee: Larry, can I talk to you for a second? I want to take Bauer with me. Larry: No. Forget it. I'm not letting him put his hands on a suspect. Renee: He won't need to put his hands on anybody. My guess is if he's in the room, Schector will talk. (This is Jack's, "He knows me.")

Men will be men in front of a beautiful woman.

Larry: Renee, you saw what he just…

Larry has romantic feelings for Renee, so there's some jealousy going on in their scene. Jack defends himself in front of her, which upsets Larry all the more lol

Renee: I'm trying to find Almeida before it's too late, and Schector is our best lead. Larry: So you want to intimidate him with Bauer?

Consider this response from Larry, as he later claims to have known her for nine years, and never saw her do the kinds of things she's done.

Renee: Schector knows how far Bauer might go. Let's use that. (This is Jack's, "He knows me.")

Renee answers as an agent of the FBI would, while Larry's side of the conversation gets even better.

Larry: Yeah, and if Schector doesn't blink, then what? Renee: I'll keep Bauer on a short leash. Larry: Renee, we're the FBI, not CTU. We honor the law, even when it's not convenient. Renee: Look, this situation is heating up fast, Larry. The President's into it now, and she's expecting results. Larry: Yeah, I know. Renee: It's your call. But I promise you, I can handle Bauer. Larry: All right. But I'm holding you responsible. And I'm sending backup teams. Renee: Okay.

Again, Larry is the man that later claims to have known Renee for nine years, and never saw her do the kinds of things she's done. So it's in this moment, fans should question why Larry feels the need to remind her that they don't act like Jack, they honor the law. Consider this a red flag, and it's not the only one.

Jack: You should leave Renee out of this. She was just doing what she thought was right. Larry: Yeah? Well, she may lose her job over it.

The fact that Larry is Renee's boss is a huge red flag. It's because he's her boss, Larry could fire her based on her actions in the office and in the field.

Jack: She's the best agent you've got. Larry: She circumvented my authority. I can't just ignore that.

That said, Renee is likely to be less herself around Larry than she is around her fellow agents. In addition, Larry is less likely to be out in the field with her, so he has less of an idea what she does. This could very well be the reason he reminds her that they don't act like Jack, they honor the law. Red flag, red flag, red flag.

Larry caves, so Jack and Renee are in the field together.

Renee: Jack. You're coming with me, and you're doing this my way.

I'm gonna start combining scenes because it's just easier that way.

Renee: Back at Schector's office, when I told you to get Almeida's location out of him, how far were you planning to go with that?

Jack: I'm gonna enjoy this.

Renee already knows how far Jack would go with that because he's facing a senate hearing due to his torture. Consider the options: 1. She's asking if he'd torture someone right in front of her because she feels as Larry does. 2. She's preparing herself for the torture to come because she feels as Jack does. 3. She wants to know if Jack would be comfortable allowing her to see that side of him. Refer to Audrey's statement. "I guess it was just a shock to see it. Somehow he seemed like a different person."

Jack: You told me to do whatever it takes.

Jack: What do you want me to do? This is your call.

Jack asked this question for the sake of remaining in compliance to her earlier statement, out of respect. "Jack. You're coming with me, and you're doing this my way."

Renee: Do whatever it takes.

This is when her line of questioning gets interesting.

Renee: Yeah, I said that for Schector's benefit to scare him, but you were actually planning to do it. How far would you have gone?

Renee already knows how far he would go because he's facing a senate hearing due to his torture. "But you were actually planning to do it." Her statement prior to her question is the interesting part. If she believes he was actually planning to do it, then she believes he would've done it, that he would've tortured Schector right in front of her. This crosses off the third option, leaving the first two: 1. She's asking if he'd torture someone right in front of her because she feels as Larry does. 2. She's preparing herself for the torture to come because she feels as Jack does.

Jack: It doesn't matter now. Renee: It does to me. I just put my career on the line because of you, and I'd like to know who I'm dealing with.

Jack doesn't like being questioned about his torture because it's not for pleasure, it's for truth. It's not like he wants to do it, more like he feels forced to do it. He will do whatever it takes to save lives. Renee's response to this is just as interesting. Consider the options: 1. She plans to handle him, and her job is on the line. 2. She doesn't plan to handle him, and her job is on the line. 3. She wants to know if he truly enjoys it. Refer to his statement when he threatened Schector. "I'm gonna enjoy this."

Jack: Yeah, well, you read my file. Renee: Your file doesn't tell me how you justify the things that you've done.

A difference between reading a report about what happened, and being there to see it happen. It's like reading a book, but not seeing the movie. Her reference to justification removes the option of his enjoyment. Consider the other two: 1. She plans to handle him, and her job is on the line. 2. She doesn't plan to handle him, and her job is on the line.

Jack: You know, I've been answering a lot of questions lately about my past, and frankly, I'm done. I told you I'd help you find Tony Almeida. I even agreed to do it your way. Since the FBI's been compromised, that's no longer an option. Now, I can still help you find him, but you're going to have to let me do it my way. Is that going to be a problem?

Jack is beyond aggravated. The senator questioned him about his torture. Larry slammed him for his use of torture. Now he's dealing with Renee questioning him about his torture. He's simply done with it. Note how Renee bats her eyes and licks her lips as he talks. Jack speaking to the fact that she's going to have to let him do it his way, which includes torture because that is his way.

Her response to his question is a red flag lol

Renee: We'll see.

She's being literal with her sense of sight. As I said before, there's a difference between reading a report about what happened, and being there to see it happen. It's like reading a book, but not seeing the movie.

I'll end their conversation with this little moment.

Renee: Damn it. I do not like this. I just flat-out lied to my boss.

Consider the options: 1. She's never lied to her boss before. 2. She's lied to her boss before, but she's hiding that from Jack.

I put that little moment in because I'm adding one last conversation, a conversation relevant to my point. Renee is likely to be less herself around Larry than she is around her fellow agents. In addition, Larry is less likely to be out in the field with her, so he has less of an idea what she does. It's the conversation Jack has with Agent Kilner. He's not just one of Renee's fellow agents, she's his boss based on their communications.

Jack: Agent Walker, she's good, huh? Agent Kilner: Yes, sir. She understands what it takes to get the job done.

This is coming from the same agent that just got done telling Jack he supports him in the senate hearing on his use of torture. Note Jack's smile with Kilner's answer, and you can read between those lines. So... Agent Kilner supports Jack in his senate hearing on the use of torture, torture sometimes being what it takes to get the job done, and Renee understands what it takes to get the job done. Hello.

Agent Kilner: Mr. Bauer? I just wanted to tell you - what they're making you go through at that senate hearing, it's wrong.

Renee understands what it takes to get the job done. Jack does what it takes to get the job done. Back to their interrogation....

Renee: Do whatever it takes.

Read between those lines. If Renee understands what it takes to get the job done, then she understands lying to her boss may be what it takes to get the job done. "Damn it. I do not like this. I just flat-out lied to my boss." She could even understand that torture may be what it takes to get the job done. "Your file doesn't tell me how you justify the things that you've done."

Now, consider this. If Renee understands what it takes to get the job done, it's possible for her to accept Jack doing what it takes to get the job done. It's even possible that she herself could do or has already done what it takes to get the job done. Larry is Renee's boss, while Jack isn't even a CTU agent, he's facing a senate hearing on torture. Ultimately, Renee knows she could get away with torture while out in the field with Jack, but she wouldn't with Larry.

Finally, consider those options I posted earlier. 1. She plans to handle Jack, and her job is on the line. 2. She doesn't plan to handle Jack, and her job is on the line.

What happens to Renee? She gets fired from her job for torturing Alan Wilson to near death. It's of my opinion that Larry's comment about Renee doesn't mean all that much. As far as I"m concerned, Jack's known her for nine hours, and he's found himself a kindred spirit.

aw thank you again too 🥺 and you're welcome as well, i'm also really happy to know you appreciate my ramblings ❤️❤️❤️ and even though i only just got into it this year and ofc it has its downs and flaws as well, there's a lot to love about kr and toku as a whole, and i can see why characters from the other japanese media i like (i totally get you now, edgeworth) are portrayed as fans of the medium/genre 😅 speaking of that, i forgot to mention what maya's thoughts on build might be - like with edgeworth, idk if build would be her fave kr show, but i still think she'd enjoy it, and while she definitely has some similarities to misora, idk if that would be enough for maya to deem misora her fave character, and for some reason, instead i think either banjou or [redacted] (i'll tell you more about this person once you get further into the show) would be her fave. and i think she'd find sawa really cool in terms of her mysterious multiple skills and would want to emulate said skills, and she might find it cute that sento basically has a rabbit fursona fjgnkwjds

*maya voice* come on mr. edgeworth, you don't have to tell me he's gay when i can literally see he's a rabbit personified and obviously rabbits are gay animals. like duh [1/?]

(though that makes me think that edgeworth might criticize the fact that they cast a skinny prettyboy to play a former pro boxer and then he'd type up a whole essay ranting about how the actor should have been someone with actual beef like will powers instead and discoursing about toei's prejudice against bears in-depth lol) and oh wow i'm also really happy to hear that you actually started watching it!!! :D and you're already on ep. 8... get ready for the stakes to keep rising bc boy does this show do its best to keep its foot on the viewers' collective neck 😭 eps. 13-16 are some of my favorites so far, and ofc no one is ever prepared enough for the shit that infamously goes down in ep. 21 😔 there are ofc moments to take a breather here and there, but there are basically no filler episodes so yeah it can be A Lot jlmdjfjkhs. i'd love to know if you have any theories or speculations for some of the mysteries and questions the show has set up so far, because while i obviously can't discuss them in-depth atm, it's still fun to see other people's takes especially when they're going into build pretty much un-spoiled 👀 [2/?]

and oh really djwdjfnks i guess it's true that i didn't actually talk about the comedic aspects of the show in my previous messages, and the post i linked also didn't give off that impression since it mostly brought up the serious elements, so sorry for accidentally misleading you 😭 but i'm glad to know it's worked out for you so far! :-) i actually really like build's humor for the most part (other than a few things like the previously mentioned uncomfortable aspects of a male character having an intense parasocial crush on misora's mii-tan persona, where ngl it was a bit funny to me at first when it didn't come off as that bad yet but then it just kept going in a very 'why are we still pushing this' way - though tbf to that guy, even though i compared him to larry, i do think he has a lot more going for him in terms of an actual arc and his interactions with other characters can be compelling and fun, he just needs to stay 10 feet away from misora for 10 years and learn to be normal), and the comedy is definitely needed in these first several episodes since well, the show does get kinda dark later on, particularly when it gets to the war parts (though to my knowledge, it's never too edgy beyond the boundaries of what's allowed for ostensibly a kids' show) - like it still does retain humorous moments, but it's generally fairly more sobering compared to the early parts of the show 😔 [3/?]

if i remember them correctly, some of my fave funny moments from the episodes you've already watched include when sento was trying to drive off on his phone bike while he was still in the cafe, banjou attempting to explain his backstory when sento asked but he started from his birth and an exasperated sento threw the visual of baby banjou away, the satou taro stuff (which iirc actually became a popular enough meme in japan at the time build was airing due to the way inukai delivered the "let's eat yakiniku tonight!" part, to the point that non-toku ads apparently referenced it lol), sawa excitedly following around an annoyed sento as build for her news stories, the whole chaining back-and-forth between banjou and misora, sento getting excited at hearing about the bottles misora purified but then becoming sad that banjou figured out a best match before him, sento immediately trying to test out that sword invention thing of his on misora and a 'sleeping' banjou but the latter was actually awake and threatened him instead, isurugi making increasingly dejected facial expressions when the others rejected his shitty coffee one by one in favor of their canned coffees, and the recurring gag of banjou having to put on a silly disguise whenever he goes out in public (shoutout to the literally contextless random clown costume) bc of how he's still a fugitive at large lmao (also not specifically meant to be funny but i cracked up at banjou's first appearance being shirtless in the sewers - i know it's supposed to be a fanservice-y moment but instead it proved to me just how nonexistent those 'sweet pecs' he loves to brag about are 😭) [4/?]

in general i like the whole gag of sento having a bunny ear ahoge that sticks up whenever he gets excited about science, even as a lot of fans jokingly call it a hair boner instead because well. i guess it's not exactly wrong hdjfjnkwjs sento being horny for science is probably the least surprising thing about him though... and a lot of the episode recaps are funny too, like when they explain how isurugi came to give sento his name (idk if you've reached this episode yet though) and when sento loves overemphasizing the way he says the 'genius'/'tensai' part of 'genius physicist' lmao on a side note, i do like how anime-ish many of the fashion choices and character quirks are, like sento's ahoge ofc and also his mismatched sneakers, and banjou's shrimp braids (i've seen a few other people think they look uncool, and while i understand that they can be pretty jarring when you're not used to that kind of hairstyle, i personally have come around to them by now and find them one of his charm points tbh), and in general the way banjou dresses like a delinquent-type lesbian jock in high school fjskjwkajs [5/?]

also i only realized later on when i saw other people pointing it out that it's weird that misora doesn't seem to have an actual schtick or something as an online idol, like singing and/or dancing or even playing video games (and later episodes do nothing to correct this assumption), and when they're not giving her info on what's happening in the country/touto re: things like smash attacks, instead she just. asks her viewers to essentially doxx people 😭😭😭 like even if that was for a good cause in the end and it worked out okay, it's still pretty weird to say the least in hindsight 😭 also let me just say that banjou being a bit of an ass to sento in these early episodes to the point of knocking him out twice to get away with his own plans, plus that part where he duked it out with sento in the nascita basement after the tatsuya incident made me go :O at first like wow okay yeah, i get where he's coming from wrt wanting to prove his innocence asap but also he definitely needed to chill somewhat (and that convo between sawa and misora where the latter was genuinely worried that the tentative friendship between the guys was over for real but sawa said she was sure they would get over it or something along those lines... queen of being supportive hfjsmkws). i'm glad he at least apologized for what he did to tatsuya in the end (also sento making that dragon bot companion for him was really sweet, even if banjou found it annoying at first lol), and the rest of his character development will definitely be cool to watch :') [6/?]

and yeah the range of their acting is amazing hwjsfkrds especially since both of their characters in cm and odt have that anxious and easily startled prey animal vibe 😭 though banjou's otherwise shouty aggressive persona is at least offset by goofy stuff like that running gag of him getting jumpscared by the microwave, and ofc the fact that he has very few functioning braincells (i hesitate to use the word here since it's become oversaturated in the past few years, but i guess you could deem him a himbo) lmao also in general, i think toku actors deserve a raise purely for being able to constantly maintain their composure while doing actions that would be otherwise goofy (e.g. i can only imagine how it looks to be cranking that lever on build's driver belts without any of the special effects added in yet) 😭 iirc inukai actually talked about that at some point, about how hard it is to insert the two bottles when he's not supposed to be looking, so even if he gets the first one right on the first try, he might still mess up the second one, so he often has to do multiple takes and said that bc of that issue, he was planning on buying one of the belt's toy versions so he could practice with it at home (idk if he went through with it in the end though) [7/?]

i'm also happy to hear about how endearing you've found the characters already - that's definitely one of build's strengths imo even if some of them end up not being developed to their full potential 👍🏼 and ahhh i'm so glad you're seeing the narumitsu vision this early!! i knew i could count on you 🙏🏼 if you're liking them thus far, trust that it's gonna get even better - you're gonna see just how much this was practically preliminary training for their later respective bl dramas ^_^ and sento and banjou may not be of the 'estranged childhood friends where one of them was adopted by his dad's murderer and then molded to follow in said murderer's footsteps and the other changed their whole career path just to see the first person again and save them' variety but they end up having quite a few Insane moments of their own later on that i feel are narumitsu-coded too so it makes me go T_T and about banjou's instinctive knack for figuring out best matches - yeah iirc it does appear a few more times after that, though sadly it doesn't figure as much anymore at the point in the show i am now. who knows though, it might still make a comeback in later episodes 🙏🏼 and yep that dialogue between isurugi and banjou... that sure was Something. ofc sento's issues will come into play more prominently as the show goes on, and i'm looking forward to seeing your reactions to how they pan out 👁️👁️ [8/?]

hdkfjskjs i'm glad you like both misora and sawa too!! misora is truly a #relatable sleep-loving icon for threatening to cut people who disturb said sleep <3 and you don't need to worry on the fronts of misora's powers and both women's backstories - they'll definitely get delved into at some point (in fact, since you mentioned being on ep. 8 already, parts of misora's get brought up in ep. 9 iirc)! my main issues are just that certain aspects, or the effects of those aspects on both women, of their backstories and the relationships they have with certain other characters in connection with that, and even their personal friendship with each other (even as i like the content we do get), could have been expanded on - ngl as i'm writing this, i'm getting flashbacks to capcom's treatment of aa female characters like maya and trucy, so once again the aa comparison seems apt here - but oh well, you'll see when you get there. ultimately it feels like a case of 'it could have been worse' considering how too often female characters can get the super short end of the stick in stuff like these, but still. that doesn't stop one from wishing it really could have been better 😔 [9/?]

and oh yeah, i hadn't brought up them up yet because i wanted you to experience them for yourself, but both gentoku/night rogue (that reminds me of the funny scene in ep. 2 where sento was like "the batman..." and he was like "it's night rogue, actually" and sento just snapped back with "i don't care what you call yourself!" or something to that effect 😭) and blood stalk are interesting and compelling antagonists and their cringe evil toxic yaoi dynamic is very fun to watch ngl <3 and about stalk and his drama-loving ass in particular - you're definitely in for a treat re: learning more about his whole deal, i promise 😌 me 🤝🏼 you 🤝🏼 other fans on akaso eiji: what is this man cooking sometimes djfjkahgs. and gah i know, he definitely comes off as smart enough (certainly smarter than the character he plays in this show) to be aware of the implications of saying stuff Like That so like. come on dudeee. and the comment i mentioned him making at that post-series promotional event is probably the cherry on top as the most out-of-pocket thing i've heard him say wrt this show to date (looking forward to both of us finishing this show so we can talk about it for real) like... seriously thank you so much for speaking your truth but also it's a wonder the toei snipers didn't get you in that moment 😭😭😭 also i imagine this is what the build actors felt like reading the script they got with every new episode: 🏳️‍🌈❓ and that was just amplified as the show went on 💀 [10/?]

and i actually was able to find again the video for the first promotional event - youtu . be/OW1y8FNibDU?si=bezKLuvqfYvSSDJq, and akaso starts talking at the 1:02 mark, so you can finally see it for yourself (it's also at this event where inukai jokingly introduced himself as satou taro instead of sento, complete with the 'yakiniku' pose that got turned into a meme, and akaso had to 'remind' him of his actual character lol). and re: this event, this was done for the crossover movie 'kamen rider heisei generations final: build & ex-aid with legend riders' or heigen final as it's commonly abbreviated, which i mentioned in my previous messages in passing, so here you can see iijima (where he looks far more baby-faced compared to his appearance in odt, even though iirc he's only 2 years younger than inukai and also akaso) and the rest of the main ex-aid cast too like i've said before, it's not strictly necessary to watch because it's not really meant to be fully canon, plus other kr protagonists - namely ooo/eiji, fourze/gentarou, gaim/kouta, and ghost/takeru - you wouldn't be familiar with also appear in supporting roles (though tbf to those other riders, since this is generally meant to be a standalone, it doesn't delve that much into the stories of their respective shows, so some cursory reading of their synopses and who these protagonists are should be good enough, but yeah i guess it does contain some spoilers for how said shows end, especially ex-aid since that's the other main rider here). the pros to watching this though is that it apparently shows some nice banjou development, which is still included within the main series but other elements are just elaborated on here, and contains additional foreshadowing for some later twists and reveals in the main series (build's head writer shogo muto was definitely on a roll while co-writing this) - and by that, i mean that the continuity is such that heigen final is technically set in between eps. 14 and 15 of the show, so there are stuff in episodes afterwards that get further set up here [11/?]

so if you don't mind some spoilers for the other seasons, especially if you're not planning on watching those anytime soon, and the fact that this isn't strictly canon, you can watch it on the toku . fun site (since the page i linked you to contains all the spin-off stuff for this show already) once you're done with ep. 14 :-) on my end, i actually started watching it a while back, but i didn't finish yet and i proceeded with my main series watching instead and now i'm 20+ episodes in, so if you're too impatient like me, it's still okay to skip it for now and just go back to it another time 👍🏼 and there's also an interview with iijima and inukai as promotion for the movie that you might be interested in, though you should also definitely only read it after finishing ep. 14 since it contains spoilers for that and a couple of episodes before it, and ofc spoilers ahead for ex-aid too: docs . google . com/document/u/0/d/1gV0D6WhKQiV8Hi3OhOk1XNUD3hB2uF4f9j1tWTYXE3g/mobilebasic?pli=1 [12/?]

also since you got past ep. 2 already, i was reminded of how build does pull the 'dead girlfriend for manpain' thing which is. not a great trope as a whole, and kasumi could have stood to be a bit more developed before her death and even in the later instances when she's brought up by banjou and co., but from everything i've heard, this + how kasumi is shown haunting the narrative is still generally handled with more grace compared to how ex-aid did a similar storyline, so this is definitely a tolerable enough case. and yeah while i don't think it was that many so far, kr definitely has had a bit of a track record of featuring dead girlfriends for men's sad backstories (though tbf, there have also been plenty of backstories here involving dead male friends so there is some equality at least ig??), the quality with which they were written varying, but welp are we really surprised considering how men-dominated this franchise is ofc lol [13/?]

and i do think the mysteries pay off well for the most part, so i'm glad it reeled you in too and ofc i'm interested in hearing your future thoughts and reactions :-) and don't worry about your posts/answers getting long, bc i can assure you that whatever i send to you will almost always be longer fjkhfsws. and feel free to independently liveblog it in separate posts too if you like - you can just tag them and/or put them under a 'read more' so i can more easily find them and your other followers can also filter the tags if they don't want to see those posts, though hey, maybe it will inspire them to get into build as well and there'll be a resurgence in build fans 5 years after it ended?? lol and yeah i think that might actually have been an aa reference fr! (even if he didn't exactly point like phoenix and co. haha) i'm pretty sure it's like the most well-known mainstream franchise involving lawyers dramatically yelling 'objection!'/'igi ari!' in japan atp so i wouldn't be surprised. just another thing to add to the list of aa-build parallels ig! Pokemon Scarlet Playthrough: Part the 7th, I get lost again but this time it's the mountains and tunnels, I fought a hungry businessman, and then got lost again but even worse

So as I always do, I wondered off and got a bit lost in the mountains. I was exploring while trying to make my way to the normal gym. First I thought I was wondering off in the tunnels before realizing I was going the right way. Then I back tracked so I could explore more. My rock salt friend evolved again, now it looks like a golem. And my starter evolved to it's finale form too.

I wondered around the mountains for awhile before being like, "I should save this for later." So I'm going to do it later. I ran into a Hawlucha 10 levels above me and I was like "I don't feel like dealing with this."

I ran into another absurdly high level wild Tera Pokemon, like the Espeon. It was an ice Lucario this time. It was level 75. And I was like, "NOPE" So I ran.

I ran into some new Pokemon. He would have guessed that Frill Pokemon would evolve into an Ostridge. I expected it's evolution to look ugly like Slurpuff's evolution looks. But it actually looks great!

One thing I always thought to myself was that if there was going to be a grass/fire Pokemon it would be a pepper. I was right! Called it! So I now have the pepper pokemon.

I also saw the new dragon line. I saw a piece of artwork with it along with other dragons, so I assume that's what it is. I tried to catch it but I didn't know it was ice type, maybe I should have guessed from the name, but I used a super effective move and it fainted.

I also caught the ice whale and ghost dog. I was talking in the last post about trying to get a female Salandit. no need now, I caught a Salazzal in the wild, I'm all good.

Also I underrated how fun High Jumping would be, it's pretty cool actually. So yeah that's it of this session. Gonna play more later. You don't have to wait though, it's all in the same post.

Very short session because I got hungry. Got into the town w/ Normal Gym, currently exploring town before fighting Larry. I know he's popular, so let's see what all the fuss is about. Tinker evolved into Tinkerton. And I caught another Pokemon that I have never seen before, some sort of stork called Bombirdier. So yeah that's it, will play more after I eat.

Speaking of eating... I have completed the normal gym! I really liked the test for this one, it was fun running around town and gathering the info I needed for the test. The battles ended up being kinda easy because I was over leveled and was using a kick ass Flamingo with really high attack, that was holding a held item that increases physical move damage. Seriously, my Wowza is a powerhouse.

I don't I ever mentioned this but I really love the theme that plays when the gym leaders do the Tera thing, it's a hype theme. I also love Tera raid music, but I especially love the music you get when you complete a Tera Raid.

So yeah, kind of ironic that I got really hungry right before the Normal Gym. Larry's alright, I do find it funny that he doesn't really seem to take his Gym Leader position that seriously. It seems like a side gig/hobby to him. I wonder what his actual job is though, is he like an accountant or something? I can't help but wonder how he became a Gym Leader because he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would go out of his way to get that position.

In unrelated news, what I thought might be undisguised Mimikyu was 100% not that. It was just a big grasshopper. In my defense, you don't really get that much detail in the little map sprites. It's still implied that there is an undisguised form out there, and I want it.

So apparently I can change my Pokemon's Tera type if I get enough shards. I was wondering what the shards are for because I already found a few. So the chef lady is going to cook them into a dish that can do that... I wonder what eating a Tera shard is like, is it like rock candy? Does it get crushed up to become like some sort of weird salt/seasoning? I wonder about the logistics.

So I asked the nurse where I should go next and she said the Dragon Titan. But I'm looking at the map and I'm like r u serious? That's an island! Koraidon can't swim! Is there like a ferry or something? I guess I'll try to see if it's possible but I'll probably end up going someplace else.

Yeah it's impossible, I can't swim and the Pokemon around the area are a bit overleveled for me. I don't know why she told me to go over there. I ended up wondering around A LOT. And catching lots of Pokemon!

I finally caught a Goomy! I tried to catch a Toedstool but this is the 2nd time that it was actually shapeshifter in disguise. I caught a Giraferig, evolved it, and replaced my Tinkerton with it. It's undrleveled compared to the rest of my party but I was just really excited to finally get one. I managed to catch a Pachirisu, they kept getting away from me by climbing up trees, but not this time! I got chu! Also caught the Dung Beetle. I caught another Gimmighoul, but it's much higher level now.

I caught the baby version of the pepper monster I mentioned earlier in this post. I also managed to catch a Tatsugiri. They were in the area that was ovreleveled for me. I only have one form though, they keep using Memento and fainting.

I also evolved some Pokemon using exp candy. So I now have a Dachsbun, Espartha, and Dolliv. I suspect Dolliv evolves one more time.

Anyway there were other Pokemon I caught/Evolved but they aren't worthy of note.

I visited Porto Marinada. The auctioneers there pretty much told me to fuck off. I guess I have to unlock that at a later point. I decided to choose between the water gym and the ground titan as my next target, and I choose the ground titan. The water gym after that, the the dark star raid. Maybe after I beat the ground titan I can swim.

I saw but didn't catch a "Veluza", a Dratini, and also these giant catfish. I wonder if that catfish Pokemon has an evolution now or if this is an unrelated mon. Just checked Pokedex, no room for it to have an additional evolution, must be something new.

Checking the Pokedex... I don't think Kilowattrel evolves again, I'm pretty sure the space after it is meant to be Eevee. Anyway... I think I'm going to leave this post off around here. Next post will probably have a bunch more actual progression.

Like we can't know what was what, what happened, what is happening or anything. there are some common things we believe. but I really wondered the story you had in your head about them? What do you think happened or happening if you think they are still going strong? Would you like to share with us? I love your posts, hope you have/had a great day!

Bahahaha I just rambled on and on. Anyone who feels like reading an essay open this:

I left this in the drafts for a bit because I wanted to read it back a little later before posting so sorry for the hold up.

OK so you're basically asking about the cannons in my head and why I think they're still together. I like that you ask me about this, because I think sometimes there's this idea that all people who believe they're together (still) are one hive mind and get our larrie juices from the same single source that's just out there telling these Larry stories... And I don't know about anyone reading this but I haven't been able to find that source in my time here lol. I mean yeah there are masterposts and yeah there are stories that get thrown around over and over again that are all just a little too speculative, but really the only real single source I have is they themselves and my own personal interpretation of the things they did, are doing, interview moments, their work, and so on. And of course I read other peoples interpretations of things, but that's not just from people who believe they were/are still together. I also read some rad blogs and even zarry shit and always try to consider other viewpoints, like with whatever they pull I consider if I might be misinterpreting things just because I'm coming from the assumption they're together. So about "there are some common things we believe", I agree for some things you can plomp nearly all "larries" in the same corner about some aspects, but I also think I got a whole lotta little details and opinions that maybe differ from what's the common consensus (I mean among things put on this blog ESNY being about the time of haylor is maybe a big one so far lol)

Then I base a lot of my ideas of them on their songwriting and music videos, the things where they let parts of them shine/creep through that are left unsaid. That they don't talk about or show otherwise (except for the gayvinci code larrying I guess but that's even more of a did they or am i just reading into thin air again???). I do try to listen to them, to the things they say in interviews, but I think the things they don't say, the things that are between the lines, are much more important than the things they do. Shits mostly just promo, and although I'm interested in that and it's a part of them, I think there's a huge part of them that isn't shown there at all. And so I prefer to listen to their artistic outlets instead, which is kinda slippery, because it's often not literal and very highly up for interpretation, especially Harry's, but so far I think my ideas of them check out, make sense, I think.

I also don't think they write as much about eachother as I see it's often interpreted. They're included in eachother's stories, because well they're sharing a life so naturally they're gonna be in each others story, but their focus especially in recent years has shifted, matured, because like any couple after a while you're just a team. Longterm love is beautiful but personal growth is too. And yes they're definitely not the average couple LOL, nobody can compare to the crazy shit they got going on, that amount of tattoos and love declarations and getting publicly passive aggressive over not being able to serenade on a fake-anniversary and persistent need to god damn attack us with insanity puzzles and dorky lil grandpa menace behavior and what not like what the hell are they on??? But that's exactly what makes me such a big fan of them, the range on these boys *pats the hood of the larry clowncar*.

But still, I think in recent years there definitely has been a shift, they've grown a lot and just, act different. I think a lot of people (ex-larries) interpret that as them having broken up because they can sense something changed (paired with their public images as well as career paths drifting apart) and interpret their songs as breakup songs, I personally don't. Like I said I don't think they write as much about eachother as it seems, and in a way they did go through a huge huge breakup: that of the band. I think the impact that being a kid, then being in a band for 5 years and then suddenly not had is vastly underestimated, and that it's a huge huge thing and they all wrote a whole bunch of songs about, much more than we think, as "hey boys and girls i was in a band and it was grand and now im solo and like yeah its different dude" doesn't really scream attractive bop hit and "you are my love and you are grand, now you're not here and im alone and oh im so sad" works much better yaknowwhatimean. They had a huge change in their lives when they went on hiatus and they deal with that in their songwriting. They also have difficult relationships with the music industry and deal with that in their songs. Same with management/label/PR. Same with fame. I could go on.

I also don't think they suffer from big miscommunication issues with eachother at all, I interpret the vast majority of lack of communication in their songwriting to be about the things they say and don't say to the public, out loud, the things they can and can't do, and that there's really not much of an issue with a partner (each other) there. I mean these lil shits had conversations with their eyes like what, 1 week into the X-factor video diaries? Looking at their interviews, especially 2015, they are so so SO in sync, like they know what the other person's thinking, they're just one entity. Yes they might be stubborn fucks with issues, but I don't think they're that huge that they got that unresolved to the point where they're putting it into their songwriting all the time. It just doesn't make sense to me if you see other things they do that show the opposite, that they're a team, meanwhile it's hella clear they got issues with walking that fine line between what can be said/done and what can't publicly. They always are so careful with their words and leave so much unsaid. It is what it is. That is a big theme in their life, and I think that's why it keeps coming back in their songs instead.

Anyway that's just what I think they're like now, as for "what happened" I am really late to the party here so I only have the footage and people's words for it who lived through it all. So I don't really have a very strong story in my head about it. At the very least Harry was just utterly infatuated from the start, like the poor little boy had no chance whatsoever. This is based on, well, all the footage but especially, especially that moment of him being entirely unable to breathe in the video diaries when asked about crushes in the house. (here, I yell in the tags) Like the buildup to that. Jesus christ I can't interpret that moment in any other way. There are a bunch more like that but that one came to mind immediately hehe. But yeah to me they just look like one of those couples that upon meeting just instantly connects and just never lets go (always think about that twin flames post)

Then just the entirety of 2011 is being too young to know they had everything, and pretty much late 2011 until about march 2012 is kinda okay this closeting thing is happening but we can deal with it, it's not gonna change us. But then whambam they enter America and everything changed when the firenation attacked and there's a serious effort to get them to behave. The whole speculation was fun because it works in the UK but American is homophobic af so suddenly there were these serious setups for denials and it wasn't funny anymore, idk how else to put it, I guess you could say they were most likely firmly advised to do and not do, say and not say, certain things, but still they're pretty much testing how far they can take it, and being met with more and more resistance. Then from mid 2012 onward they really start to cave, and we start getting a glimpse into what's going on via tattoos basically. Harry's going in full force with all kinds of loss of freedom and presence of a closet and deep undisclosed issues, I mean a fking coat hanger, a cage, "I can't change"... The buildup to haylor was bad, but that god awful December 2012 I think almost killed him, like I really think he couldn't handle that at all.

And then all throughout I think Harry was always just ready to throw it all out the window and come out but Louis was scared it would ruin their chances of being somebody (thanks louis for that quote with that tat), of making it big so he held back more and more and we get shit like Too Young and Half The World Away and Don't Let Me Go, I don't think that means they broke up, I think that means what's described in Two Ghosts basically...

and then honestly 2013-2014 in terms of timeline is a bit of a scramble in my head so I can't say much there, like publicly they were interacting less and less to the point where it was just... gone? It truly looks like they couldn't find a way to behave normally around eachother so they gradually got to a point where they ended up ignoring eachother entirely. I don't think the idea that "management didn't let them interact" (although, I don't see people actually saying that) is a thing, not in a literal sense. I think they were shown over and over again how they shouldn't behave (like the mediatraining thing idk where I got this from, but I read/saw something about this somewhere, I might be wrong, that a part of mediatraining is that you sit and watch your old vids back and you're told all the things you're doing wrong, so basically you're trained to not do things, and if that thing is who you are, over time you just become a shell of a person) to the point where they just didn't know how to behave with eachother at all, because whenever they did, whenever something caused them to breach that distance and they start interacting in public it's just an instant dead giveaway how close they are (what comes to mind here is that premiere where harry grabs louis' phone out of between his legs), it's no joke just chemistry magic happening on the screen lol, and so they just... didn't. At the very same time, they did sneakily interact, they were really nasty hormone balls and ew ew ew ew why did all of us need to see all of that jesus christ just all throughout, they just got increasingly better at being subtle about it. And that the whole time they also got increasingly shady trying to go against whatever narratives they kept getting shaped into.

Then 2015 I got no clue how they managed to get through that, and I think they were strong and together but struggling, just, nothing about it was normal, nothing they had to deal with was something anyone could learn how to cope with, and they were still really young too, so I think that struggled loads. Now for what exactly it was they were dealing with you might as well ask me what happened in Belfast, god who knows. We got bears and a fake baby like really wtf is any of this. I also think there was a shitload of self medication too (I mean, all throughout. I think unfortunately a lot of moments that divert from their regular mediatrained behavior aren't them just being funny little menace idiots, but that they're drunk. Especially Liam actually, but Harry and/or Louis as well at times), then for 2016/2017 even into 2018 I really don't have strong opinions about that, I just don't know. We can't see them together anymore so all we got is what they want to give us, the gayvinci code, the aggressive larrying, the OG bluegreening, we're the clowns but they're the circus, the RBB/SBB behavior. But for that time I think they were just... busy redefining who they are and what they know and how they wanna be and all that. Growing up.

Then from then onwards its just settled basically. Especially with the promo interviews, like late 2019/early 2020 there's just this old married grandpa calm over them. unfortunately the past year has been weird (I mean *vaguely gestures*) but somehow in the midst of that we got some of the loudest SBB idiotic mess so yeah I think they're still having fun being these dorky lil idiots that some days just wake up and feel like yaknow what lemme choose chaos and then just pull the wildest fking larrying nonsense, like are they in a competition? Are they just bored and seeing how far they can take it? Do they enjoy our pain? Is this just how they show affection? Is it a daring contest?! (I do actually think it's a daring contest)

Hi. I've been reading threw a number of your posts related to Loki 2021 and the general impression your post give is that you don't like how Loki 2021 has been written and present (which I understand because while Loki is not a favourite character of mine, I want to see his character done justices). And I guess I was just wondering how you would have tackled Loki 2021, using the plot elements that have been established in the show, but with your own spin. Thank you :)

That's a great question! I think the premise actually had a ton of potential. @nikkoliferous and I often talk about all the really cool things that could've been done and why it's so particularly tragic that they wasted all that good story setup. I think there are 3 main types of directions the story could've gone in with this premise (and then a lot of variations within each type).

Direction 1 - A buddy comedy with a heart

So I think this is what they were trying to go for with Loki and Mobius's dynamic based on the narrative framing and how all the interviews have presented Mobius in a positive light. (Though that's not what they actually wrote at all).

The way to do this would be to set Mobius up in a more sympathetic way and put him and Loki on more even footing. They could've had Mobius be almost as much a prisoner as Loki. They could have started out with him being pretty indoctrinated into the TVA worldview, but also being considered expendable. We could've seen his superiors threaten him with deletion if he can't make things work with the Loki Variant. Maybe he even feels some compassion for Loki and convinces his superiors that Loki can be useful and shouldn't be deleted since he's powerless to do anything else and he figures being enslaved is probably better than dying. Loki could actually be in-character and question Mobius's world view etc. And Mobius could to the best of his ability treat him decently instead of smugly mocking and tormenting him.

We could have Loki escape early on and end up bringing Mobius along with him, either by accident or because he realizes Mobius will be killed for losing him and he feels bad about it. Then we have them thrown together by circumstances and they could slowly grow to trust each other over the course of the show. The series could dig into the parallels between them. Loki could point out to Mobius that he repeats the propaganda he's been taught but he's hardly less of a prisoner than Loki and his masters are hypocritical. This could also lead to Loki realizing that while maybe he wanted to tell himself that he was an ally of Thanos's the truth was anything but.

While they're on the run both could start to realize they're experiencing freedom from the first time. Mobius could learn to question the TVA and Loki could realize that maybe he can be himself and doesn't have to be a tool of Odin or Thanos. Loki could could grapple with how much control he had while attacking NYC (thus allowing Disney to leave that a bit open to interpretation without totally sweeping the torture and mind control under the rug) and Mobius could grapple with how complicit he has been in the TVA's horrific actions.

Rather than Loki "learning to be trustworthy" (smh) Loki could learn to trust someone else and that not everyone will betray him. Mobius could also be a stand-in for more casual viewers and slowly realize that Loki isn't just the uncomplicated villain he at first took him for. There could be a nice mix of substantive character drama and entertaining hijinks. And of course in the end they could burn the TVA to the ground and liberate all realities. There's so many variations on this and @nikkoliferous and I often chat about them. Because the show could've been so good! And yet. </3

Direction 2 - The TVA & Mobius are acknowledged as the great villains they are

This is kind of what they're making by accident without acknowledging it which leads to a lot of emotional dissonance in the narrative. In canon the TVA is a horrific organization and Mobius seems happily complicit. He doesn't seem to have any compunctions about supporting their agenda of using murder, genocide, forced labor, enslavement, torture, police brutality, sham trials without due process, and privacy violation to eliminate free will. He happily forced Loki to toil under threat of death, mocks and humiliates him, manipulates him, and participates in acts of torture. He is INCREDIBLY creepy and a great embodiment of the "banality of evil" concept. The TVA is also absolutely terrifying.

If the show actually leaned into that it would create a great sense of narrative tension. Loki has escaped Thanos only to once again fall into the hands of a horrifically evil and powerful enemy. And it's up to him to figure out a way out of this situation and a way to liberate all of reality from their grip. In this scenario it might be useful to introduce some other prisoner characters so that he has some friendlyish faces to interact with...and potentially an army to lead against the TVA after he's won them over and figured out a plan.

Mobius's parallels to Odin and Thanos would work really well here because having Loki eventually defeat him and tell him he doesn't get to tell Loki who he is or make him into a tool of evil would be hugely cathartic. We'd get to see Loki stand up to and defeat someone who parallels the two individuals who have most hurt and manipulated him and decide to make his own way from now on rather than trying to be what others make of him. It would be awesome.

Direction 3 - TVA are twist villains

Some people think this might be the direction the show is going. The problem is that if that's true it'll just fall flat because the TVA is already clearly villainous so there's no twist. In the first episode already we see them commit acts of murder, genocide (wiping out a whole timeline because they believe the beings in that timeline belong to a class - variants - that are unworthy of life), police brutality, trial without due process, privacy violation, torture, and illegitimate imposition of rule (they are not elected in any sense and yet they have appointed themselves the arbiters of reality) all in the service of eliminating free will. That is...not what heroes do.

However they COULD have been good twist villains with just a few tweaks. Maybe they approach Loki and play on his deep yearning to be viewed as good and worthy as well as his self-hatred and poor self image to convince him that an "evil" version of him is wreaking havoc and they need his help. Maybe they also sweeten the deal by offering him protection from Thanos and the Black Order since he has no idea they are dead in this timeline. (If you wanted to keep audiences more in the dark you could have them just talk about the Black Order so that audiences at first assume they are still hunting Loki even tho Thanos is dead and don't realize the TVA is manipulating Loki).

At first they don't do anything overtly evil. The authoritarian aesthetic would seem like a humorous parody of office culture. It would then take on a new, much more sinister meaning when the TVA get's revealed as evil later and we learn that they obliterate entire timelines, murder people for the slightest infractions, don't view variants as people, and want to eliminate free will. Mobius could either appear first as a friend and then get revealed as a villain or have a redemption arc where he ends up siding with Loki.

Also for all of these scenarios the script and characterization should be good. I should see Loki, not Larry his dumb lookalike cousin. The script should have Loki doing and saying things that are in-character. (Which certainly doesn't preclude humor since Loki's wit is one of his most iconic features!)

Rubbing her eyes tiredly, (Y/n) slowly climbed the stairs leading to the Museum Natural History. Mentally preparing herself for a long work night. “Hey (Y/n).” Larry chimed cheerfully at her as she entered the locker room. “Hey Larry.” She offered a tired smile before shrugging off her bag. “Didn’t sleep well?” He asked as he slipped on his uniforms jacket. “I got about an hour and a half.” She sighed before opening the first of many energy drinks of the night. “Hey why don’t you take it easy tonight; I’ll worry about the rounds.” Larry offered. “I’d love to, but McPhee asked me to focus on getting all the crates that were transferred her this morning to their designated areas. I’ll be alright, but thanks for the offer.” She smiled as she slipped on her own jacket, following Larry out of the locker room. “I could do that for you.” Larry offered with a smile. “No, it’s alright.” (Y/n) smiled before she continued. “Once I’ve finished that, I promise I’ll try and get some rest.” She assured knowing Larry probably wouldn’t let up anytime soon. “Okay just don’t push yourself.” He patted her shoulder lightly before he made his way upstairs, both of you making a quick sweep of the museum, making sure no one was there after hours. Once the doors were locked, and the sun was set. (Y/n) made her way to the loading docks, preparing to move the crates, and open any that might have a living creature inside. By the time (Y/n) opened the door to the loading docks, the museum was coming to life. Smiling to herself as the idle commotion began to fill the museum, (Y/n) accidently let the door slam shut behind her, flinching at the loud bang it caused. Not a moment later knocking rang from almost all the crates, followed by muffled voices. Sighing softly (Y/n) grabbed a crowbar and set to work, prying the first crate open as fast as she could. “Thank you.” A familiar French voice called out to her as she pulled the crates lid out of the way. “You?!” He ogled in astonishment still sitting within the crate. “Hi Napoleon.” She offered her hand assisting him out of the crate. “Um thank you (Y/n).” He cleared his throat awkwardly. “You’re welcome.” She smiled before pointing to the door she came from. “Go through there, and mingle I guess.” She shrugged before walking over to the next crate. “Oh okay… It… It’s good to see you under better circumstances.” Napoleon fiddled with his hands, feeling a bit nervous. “Yeah… It’s good to see you to.” (Y/n) smiled softly before turning her attention to the next crate, unaware that Napoleon hadn’t left. With a huff (Y/n) pried open the first corner, nearly jumping when Napoleon spoke. “Would you like some assistance?” He smiled nervously when he realized he had startled her. “Oh, I’m okay, I’m just being a little dramatic is all.” She chuckled before prying open the next corner. “Thank you though.” She added as she hulled the lid from the crate, chuckling at the sight of an almost bewildered looking Ivan. “(Y/n)?” He sat up dusting off his clothes. “Hello Ivan.” She offered her hand, helping him to keep his balance as he climbed out of the crate. “Napoleon?” His frown deepened at the sight of the Frenchman.

Ignoring the two as they talked (Y/n) worked on the next crate, whimpering under her breath almost inaudibly, when her hand slipped, and she cut her palm on the crowbar. But being the stubborn woman she is, she ignored the pain and got back to work, her blood making a little bit of a mess as she worked. “(Y/n) you are bleeding?” Ivan pointed out as she opened the crate. “I’m okay.” She smiled before looking down into the crate. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” Al smirked up at her, his eyes bulging a little when she allowed the lid to slam shut in his face, not even giving him a chance to sit up. “Who is it?” Napoleon asked as he and Ivan approached her. “Capone.” She drawled out broadly, crossing her arms as Al opened the lid himself. “Aye what’s the big idea!?” He huffed in annoyance as he hopped out of the crate. “Last time I seen you, you slapped my ass. I think what I did there was pretty justified.” (Y/n) huffed before picking the crowbar back up, moving to the last crate that had someone inside. “I was only playin dollface.” Al’s smile washed away when he noticed her bloody hand. “What happened?” He grasped her hand before she could start working on the crate. “My hand slipped, I’m fine.” She pulled her hand back with an annoyed huff, quickly prying opening the first corner. “Let me.” Al attempted to take the crowbar, but (Y/n) snatched it away. Being even more stubborn in her tired state than normal. “I’m fine.” She huffed again before working on the second corner. “I know your fine baby, I just thought I’d lend a hand.” Al teased making (Y/n) roll her eyes just as she pried the corner open. No one expected the crate to fly open with force, but Al was quick to pull (Y/n) behind him when he realized who it was. Kahmunrah sprung out of the crate with his sword in hand, glaring at the men, as Napoleon and Ivan moved to stand next to Al, blocking Kahmunrah from (Y/n). “Get out of my way.” The Egyptian hissed, planning on attacking (Y/n). “Ain’t gonna happen.” Al growled as he pulled his pistol from his jacket, aiming at Kahmunrah. “Hey (Y/n) how’s everything going in here?” Larry asked as he entered the room, halting in his tracks, Ahkmenrah and Lancelot following him. “Brother.” Kahmunrah growled, while Lancelot unsheathed his sword. “(Y/n) get out of here, we’ll deal with this.” Larry called out to her, relaxing a little when she listened without protest. “Be careful.” She murmured to Ahkmenrah as she passed, who in turn offered her a reassuring smile. “Where are you going?” Larry asked Al, who was following (Y/n). “To bandage up her hand.” He tossed over his shoulder, before exiting the room.

“(Y/n) wait up.” Al called out as he jogged to catch up with her, pleased when she waited for him. “Can I help you?” She cocked a brow at him as he approached. “Actually, I wanna help you.” He smiled at her, taking ahold of her injured hand once more. “Oh.” (Y/n) muttered under her breath, feeling a little guilty for being so hostile. “There’s a first-aid kit in the locker room.” She pointed in the direction of the locker room, fighting back a smile when Al whisked her up into his arms. “What are you doing?” She couldn’t hide her smile, giggling softly when he winked at her. “You’re to injured to walk on your own.” He teased with a smile, relishing in the fact that he made her laugh. “Oh please.” She rolled her eyes playfully, her arms wrapping around his neck as he walked. Once they entered the locker room, Al placed (Y/n) down on top of a nearby desk. “It’s on the top shelf of the locker without a door.” (Y/n) pointed to the locker, watching Al retrieve the kit with a faint grin. “I’ll be gentle.” Al winked before setting to work on her hand, chuckling softly when she softly punched his shoulder with her other hand. “You’re terrible.” She snickered shaking her head, before a somber feeling washed over her. “Hey Al.” She muttered softly, only getting a small hum from the gangster. “I’m sorry for being so hostel… It was a bit uncalled for. It’s just I’m running on fumes here, and I allowed my temper to get the better of me.” She sighed before closing her eyes, the weight of her exhaustion weighing heavily on her. “Hey look at me.” Al muttered while holding her jaw in his hand. “It’s okay, no harm done.” He assured her with a small smile before pecking her forehead. “Promise?” She bit her lip feeling silly for asking this of him. “Promise.” He chuckled merrily before focusing on her hand again. After Al finished patching her up, (Y/n) made her way back to the loading dock. Explaining that she still had to get the crates to there designated areas. “Let me help you.” Al insisted determined to help her so she could rest. “Da.” Ivan agreed as he and Napoleon approached them. “Larry told us what you had to do, and we want to help.” Napoleon explained making (Y/n) smile. “Alright.” She agreed feeling like this was the beginning of an interesting friendship.

HSMTMTS 2x08 Review

Most Likely To was the best ep of S2 so far and ended one ship while launching another. Let’s dig in!

Gaston was super fun, a very nice showcase for both Larry and Matt. This is the kind of energy that early S2 was lacking. Also feels like the first ep where East High might actually have a shot at beating North High. Covid restrictions played a role but we really needed to see more rehearsal scenes and scenes of the wildcats just being theatre kids. This also may be one of the last times we see EJ perform as a student in the musical so I’m glad we got this.

EJ has been criminally underused for most of S2, he’s marketed as part of the big 4 along with Nini, Ricky, and Gina and Matt Cornett’s name is listed 3rd in the credits but in the early eps of S2 you’d think he was guest star. Lately he’s started to become more important and tonight was an excellent showcase of why he’s such an interesting character. I’m not gonna check but this feels like it’s the most EJ screen time in a single ep that we’ve gotten all season long.

Of course, the main reason for EJ’s increased screen time is because of Portwell. I’ve been neutral on them but tonight they really won me over’ their scenes were so sweet that they warmed even my cold black heart. Matt and Sofia are good friends irl and that shines through in their easy rapport and great chemistry. Gina snorting at EJ’s joke was cute and I loved the shot of Gina accidentally walking into the shot for EJ’s confessional. As an aside, they’ve been doing some fun stuff with the confessionals lately which helps add a bit of the metaness that helped make S1 so great.

The real big Portwell scene tonight was EJ and Gina talking on the couch at Ashlyn’s. Lot’s to love there. Gina’s speech to EJ about what she sees when she thinks of him was sweet and her saying that EJ tried to do the right thing and often failed but kept trying echoes what she said of herself during her confession to Ricky. Also when EJ asked Gina if she understood the feeling of having her life mapped out she replied, ‘’not really’’ which is almost certainly the inspiration for Gina asking a question to EJ and him responding ‘’not really’’ in their pre S2 face time call on the hsmtmts instagram.

EJ is still wracked with guilt for the guy he used to be but Gina reminds him that he’s grown and is a good guy which leads to her slip up about her seeing him that way vs the rest of the gang hinting that she’s beginning to catch feelings for EJ. Which leads to EJ complimenting her and them having a moment that could well have led to a kiss if Ashlyn hadn’t come home. And they cap it off with Gina falling asleep and EJ covering her with his Duke sweater.

It’s been nice not seeing Gina upset over Ricky these past two eps and it’s a damning indictment of the poor writing and pacing of S2 that her story in the first 6 eps can be summed up as Gina being upset over something Ricky said or did. Not only has Portwell allowed EJ to rise in prominence but also it’s allowed Gina to escape the rut her character was stuck in pining for Ricky.

I hope after S2 is over that we get an interview where Tim explains how the Portwell plot came to be. The S1 finale set up some possible interest between them as did the pre S2 face time call but nothing came of it during the first 4 eps, they stood next to each other a lot but barely interacted otherwise. Notably in 2x01, which Tim himself wrote, EJ tries to grow a beard and tells Ashlyn that he says her as so young which is extremely jarring now that we know that EJ is crushing on Gina who is Ashlyn’s age.

Was Tim not set on doing Portwell until he realized he needed to give Gina something else to do other than hopelessly pine for Ricky? Narratively, it made sense after Rini got together in S1 to put the other two Big 4 characters together in S2 but did Tim not want it to seem so obvious to the audience so he deliberately kept Portwell apart until 2x05 where EJ’s feelings make for a nice plot twist? Was he just reluctant to plug EJ back into the love square due to how much more complicated it would make things but later felt he had no other options? Or was it just plain old bad pacing and writing?

Of course, I wish that there wasn’t such a large age gap between Sofia and Matt but there are no Gina ships that avoid that problem, there’s also an age gap between Sofia and Joshua, just as there was between Olivia and Joshua and Matt in S1. Depending on when they film S3 there’s a good chance that most of it will be finished before Sofia even turns 18 which is deeply unfortunate. There’s a broader issue of teen girls being cast in mostly age appropriate roles while their male love interests are older adults and in particular it often affects female characters of colour. Netflix has a really bad track record with those kind of age gaps but Disney has problems too as we’ve seen on HSMTMTS and on GMW where by the end of S3 they had 18 year old Peyton Meyer as the boyfriend of 14 year old Rowan Blanchard’s character (not to mention canon Joshaya which didn’t have such a bad age gap between the actors but was problematic regarding the ages of the characters themselves).

A knock I’ve seen on Portwell is that EJ is just gonna leave for university next year but that was never gonna happen, Matt’s under the same 4 season contract as all the other mains and he’ll be sticking around in some capacity much like Sharpay ended up doing in the movies. It is true that EJ will probably have to move on at the end of S4 while Gina still has her senior year left but that will also happen with her and Ricky since he’ll be graduating at the end of S4. It was a big mistake to make EJ a senior but it also may end up being a big mistake to make Gina a sophomore. It would have been too messy to retcon EJ to be a junior but Tim probably should have taken the chance to retcon Gina into being a junior in S2.

That Rini breakup was so sad (missed opportunity for gotta go my own way). They managed to get in a Troyella reference with the treehouse. This was inevitable they just have not been communicating well though now that we know that Ricky thought Nini left YAC for him some of his desperation to spend as much time together as possible makes more sense. I think Rini is endgame if the series has 4 seasons but it wouldn't shock me if we never seem them dating again and they only get back together in the series finale. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Nini never dates anyone else for the remainder of the series or at least not seriously.

We’re not even halfway through the series so it’s way too early to permanently slam the door on Rini though this time apart will probably help Joshua and Olivia move on from their own bitter break up before it bleeds too much into their performances. I do wonder if Tim really has a clue what he's gonna do with them for the remaining 24-28 eps of the series, assuming S3 and S4 have 10-12 eps each.

Roman Banks killed If I Can’t Love Her and the montage of all the couples or ex couples was great.

It was nice to finally meets some parents other than the Bowen’s and Salazar-Roberts’. Kourtney’s mom was played by Dara’s actual mother and their dynamic was great as expected. It seems from their conversation that Kourtney's father is dead which I don’t believe has been mentioned before. Cash Caswell.... well it gets what the character is about across. He really looks and sounds like a rich Utah republican, I bet he knows Mitt Romney personally. I liked EJ going to tell his father that he’s not going to Duke and recognizing that he wants to build his own life on his own merits.

We saw a bit of that S1 Miss Jenn energy tonight which was fun though I didn't like how curt she was with Seb nor did I like how rude Carlos was to Seb although we know that blows up in 2x10.

Jazzara rising! I really liked how Jazzara and Portwell are sort of mirroring each other and since Mazzara knows about EJ’s feelings for Gina it wouldn’t shock me if helping EJ out is part of him showing a softer side in 2x12.

Of course Ashlyn is VP of the Nostradamus society. It's clear her family has some kooky new age beliefs (her parents are probably members of some naturopathic medicine group on Facebook that doubles as a gateway into Qanon)

It was nice to see Big Red being such a good friend to Ricky and the return of Ricky’s infamous pillow hugs. Lmao at Ashlyn just chilling while Big Red is comforting Ricky

Also Miss Jenn saying sexy and Big Red referring to pillow talk, the writers are adding a bit of spice when cooking up these scripts.

Looking Ahead:

Looks like Gina may be wearing EJ's duke sweater next ep according to some posts I saw. Jack presumably is there to somehow help Gina decide what she wants with Ricky and EJ though him having wanderlust might also feed into Gina’s thoughts on settling down in SLC or moving with her mom around the country.

Let's see what mom of the year, Lynne Bowen, has up her sleeves. Ricky’s bedroom at her place in Chicago looks much nicer than the apartment Mike Bowen has so perhaps she makes a lot more money than he does.

Not looking forward to the Zoom portions of the ep but I guess it was inevitable.

There’s only two paths for Gina’s story to go in the remainder of this season; either she decides to move on from Ricky and give EJ a chance or she decides that Ricky is worth trying again and squelches her budding feelings for EJ. The former looks much more likely after tonight’s ep but either way it needs to be handled with care. Inevitably Gina and Ricky need to talk about what happened between them but if Tim really wants Ricky to continue being a viable love interest or even a good friend to Gina then he needs to really have Ricky apologize and show a thoughtful, kinder side of him that’s largely been missing this season.

What I think Tim is doing is setting up Portwell getting together in 2x12 but Ricky pining over Gina until Portwell break up late S3 and Rina get together in the S3 finale before they break up later in S4 and Ricky gets back with Nini near the end of the series. If I had Tim’s ear I would tell him that he should pick which ship he wants to do, Rina or Portwell, but don’t do both. He wants canon Rina? Great then end Portwell before it starts and have Rina happen in S3 and introduce other obstacles to them getting together rather than having to damage EJ’s character and make him lose another girl he likes to Ricky. He wants canon Portwell? Great then have Gina and Ricky’s conversation be closure for the both of them and have Gina and EJ get together and break them up without Ricky being a cause of it or waiting in the wings to get with Gina soon afterwards. Doing both will be a disaster and I truly hope that Tim Federle carefully thinks over his mistakes in S2 and really plans out the remaining 2 seasons of the series while there’s still time to prevent things from going really off the rails like GMW and AM did thanks to the bad decisions of Michael Jacobs and Terri Minsky.

What do you think of how much more bad ass they have made Sylvie over Loki in terms of action? (I'm not complaining big fan of it) Do you feel as if the show runner herself is giving Sylvie as much screen time and moments that often eclipse Loki bc she may be a character who's main purpose was to uplift and expand Loki's character, and that was her only original purpose? As if maybe she wasn't intended to last in the Marvel universe, at least in this incarnation? Seeing how most of this show is ran by the point of view of some women, that what we have with Sylvie is what we get bc of this reason? Do u feel it would have been different had it been otherwise? Or do you feel differently then my observation? Would love any point of view.

Why First Impressions Matter

Let me just say I was ecstatic over this ask. Finally something different (not that I don’t enjoy the previous asks) that forces me to talk about something that has been lingering in the back of my mind since the show started.

If you guys could be patient with me, I would appreciate it. I’m going to deviate a lil bit and talk about a point that relates to this ask and basically explains this user’s concern.

So, my mother says that she gives a show around ten minutes or so to grab her interest. At first I thought it was a bit ridiculous, since that means she’s missing out on a lot of great potentials because of this rule. I respected her opinion of course. Now, ever since the Loki show started though, I understand why she believes in it.

Marvel is very lucky they have loyal fans like us who will eat up whatever they spoon fed us. Even amongst heavy criticism. Despite people hating on the character Loki in his show by calling him “Larry” , the writers “clowns” or calling him OOC and a sidekick on his own show (please if you have the time, read the short post I linked), I finally understand their sentiment, which in a way is misplaced because of what I’m going to mention:

The first ten minutes of the first episode of Loki could should have been better.

What do I mean by this? Two things actually.

Imagine that you are a new MCU fan and you want to catch up on the movies or someone wanting to binge watch the entire saga again. You finish the first avengers movie but you decide to deviate and watch Loki, which is based on 2012 Avengers Loki. What’s one thing that’s going to throw them off immediately? Guess.

If you did congrats.

It’s the hair.

As a loyal fan, this will ALWAYS confuse me. There’s also the fact that they shot new scenes with the overly long spiky ends wig. So…why the sudden change in appearance? I started headcanoning that traveling through space and dimensions fucks up your evil blowout just for my sanity.

Already we are on the wrong path.

Now you may think this is minor and shouldn’t matter but appearances DO matter and sometimes we don’t pick up on inconsistencies right away, however, they do stay in our minds and form this domino effect later on which is what is happening with a lot of displeased fans.

The second is this joke of a scene.

If there was any time that Loki needed to display some of his abilities we were introduced at the end of episode two and throughout episode three, this would have been the perfect moment. Loki may be cocky, petty and boastful, but he is not stupid.

He just barely escaped with the tesseract. He would not approach ignorantly and all cocky mighty, a group of people who seem to look very dangerous. This is 2012 Loki. You know the dangerous god that a group of talented individuals joined forces to stop because it would have been the end of their world as they know it? A Loki who will be on high alert because not only will SHIELD and the Avengers be looking for him but eventually the Other and Thanos as well.

What I would have done to rewrite the strength and seriousness of the TVA without outright humiliating Loki in the process, this scene instead should have been a fight scene. Loki would have been full of adrenaline, displaying all his feats only to be caught off guard by B-15 and THEN you could make this infamous scene.

We already know that the TVA agents are trash fighters and easily beaten grunts based on later scenes. A scene like what I recommended would have prepared us for that. Otherwise now we are calling the rest of the fight scenes in this show also inconsistent with what we were presented in their first appearance.

Another rewrite I would have done is NOT start off the show using the Endgame Loki escaping scene. A great majority of people watching the show are because they already KNOW this Loki escaped with the space stone. Starting off with a recap, a recap all the way to the elevator scene no less, is not only way too long but unnecessary.

To peek the audiences’ interest, one should have started with a short scene of TVA hunting The hooded mysterious Variant and the latter killing them. It could be anywhere in time. Not only would that peek ones interest and wonder who this figure is, they’ll assume they are trouble and that they might cause an issue with Loki if they were to cross each other’s path etc basically you’ll have the audience’s mind scrambled and excited. THEN after the marvel logo you can put the recap scene.

And this is why I made a big deal of explaining what I’ve said above. Is not that Sylvie is more badass. In fact, Sylvie should have more scenes than the ones we are given. It’s the fact that the Loki actions scenes started off misplaced and were not started strong enough to make an impactful expression. It’s why they are calling him all sorts of things like weak, clown, OOC, stupid, inconsistent etc even though later on he is shown to be intelligent and strong.

Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) Sylvie’s character has been bound by her male counterpart’s. The majority of her scenes are with Loki, whether they were fighting or developing her character. This…is not the best writing choice but given this is only 6 episodes and time is short, they are pitting these two together as early as episode two in order to establish their partnership/relationship.

This choice sacrifices character screen time so the plot can move forward. Sylvie so far has only three meaningful scenes ever since being introduced (without Loki) and personally I feel that’s not enough.

Being paired with Loki 95% of the time is why you and many believe that she is taking Loki’s shine. We hadn’t had time, as a viewer, to fully appreciate Sylvie despite her not wanting to be called or relate to the name Loki. We haven’t had time to BREATHE and actually enjoy this new character especially since the majority of her scenes she is bounded by the hip to Loki! You are also right to believe that her character seem to have been created to “uplift and expand” Loki’s character-because SHE IS! And the latest episode basically confirms that!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sylvie is a character exclusively used for the Loki show. So far there are no plans of using her beyond the series. Which is unfortunate because it means that even with female writers behind the script, decisions were made and accepted to have the Sylvie character move and react to the plot along side a male character. It’s fine for that to happen but when it’s the majority of their screen time, then it’s an issue. So your observation is correct.

Don’t get me wrong, I have been enjoying the show so far. Not loving it but it’s been entertaining despite some of it’s…creative choices. One thing that has been in common so far in MCU series is that they aim too high with a big budget only for them to not put the same time and care on a story they want to tell.

It really is unfortunate because there are moments in the show that has been done great! But again many choices has to do with the fact that Marvel and Disney are obsessed with keeping up this schedule and milking a show as much as they can. Because that’s their brand.

I can’t tell you additionally what I would have done differently. I guess we would have to wait till the Finale for me to properly answer that question.

off topic - let’s talk about gaylena 👀

selena gomez is one of taylor’s oldest and bestest friends and given that she is in the 22 liner notes, a huge part of taylor’s life, and maybe fruity herself it seems like possibly we don’t talk about her here at the blog enough!

i don’t want to do a timeline of selena and taylor’s friendship - you can read more about that here, but they met back in the day when they were both dating jonas brothers and to me this idea of finding a real friendship in the midst of these contrived promances is pretty adorable.

ofc most of y’all think taylor is a fruit basket but i think there’s a good chance that selena is too! i’m not saying she is for sure but y’all know me. i’’m here to make a compelling case that everyone and their dog is gay so let’s gooooo!

Part III - Selena x Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels is a singer/songwriter known for her song Issues. I don’t know her sexuality but she at the least has gay vibes! It seems they met around this time perhaps because Julia wrote on Revival.

They have a friendly enough friendship for a few years, liking one another’s posts on IG from time to time, posing for a photo a time or two and then they seem to get swept up into this very intense friendship in 2019. They write some music together and Julia goes whole hog in promoting the shoe brand Selena is hawking this time 😭

So. Here goes nothing... (1/?)

(Major spoilers for the comic, but since it won’t update anymore (besides PERHAPS some random comic strips/excerpts without context every now and then, but don’t count on it), I guess it doesn’t matter.)

If you read my answer to the ask posted earlier, you probably know what this post is about. I’ll make a list of every important point I wanted to tackle in the comic, in multiple sections. Be prepared for the long post that awaits you below the cut.

Summary of what was left of Chapter 2

Following their first appearance at the beginning of the chapter, Lolph and Dundgren try to question Blendin, who is staying at a hospital and is still under intense care. They discuss what exactly happened to Blendin in the first place: he was assigned what was supposed to be a routine mission to solve a minor time anomaly in the 21st century, but his time machine exploded when he tried to operate it and he was gravely injured. Dundgren mentions that any normal time device should hardly cause this much damage when malfunctioning, suggesting that Blendin’s level of incompetence is so incredibly high, it somehow managed to make something that shouldn’t be able to explode blow up in his face. On the other hand, Lolph starts to wonder if, exactly because it should be impossible, the accident may have had a reason other than just Blendin’s incompetence. Unfortunately, the accident had consequences so grave on Blendin’s physical health, it seemingly also took a toll on his sanity and questioning him only leaves them with esoteric sentences of dubious credibility.

Blendin: “This is very nice of you… to visit me. There isn’t much time left. I was starting to feel alone, before everything disappears.” Blendin: “Time Baby will succeed… He will free us from this time.”

July 13, 2012 again: back in the gift shop of the Mystery Shack, Wendy and Soos have captured Bill and tied him up to a chair. Wendy starts interrogating him, asking him who or what he is-- throwing in her multiple guesses: the Shapeshifter she defeated with Dipper in the bunker, a paper clone... She doesn’t suspect demon possession or a switch-because-of-the-carpet scenario, however. Bill just keeps trying to break free with little success, without answering; and soon, Stan interrupts them when he enters the gift shop as well, followed by the dozen of tourists he took during his latest tour. Wendy and Soos manage to evade Stan’s obvious questions by pretending they were making a new attraction.

Back in Mabel’s Dreamscape, Mabel encourages Dipper to have some fun with Bill’s powers, but he is scared of messing up because of just how powerful he is; having seen Bill’s powers both in the Mindscape/Dreamscape and in Weirdmageddon when he witnessed the alternate timelines, Dipper knows just how far those powers can go and he isn’t sure he can control them. Still, after some teasing Mabel starts a snowball fight with the surrounding ice cream, and gradually the twins have more and more fun starting with the ice cream, then with the tricks Dipper starts to use. When they take a break, Mabel points out that nothing bad happened, and Dipper grows a bit more confident that he can use Bill’s powers in a way that isn’t dangerous.

Dipper: “I guess it’s easy to do exactly what you want when it literally happens in your mind... Huh.”

Dipper notices it’s almost noon, and Mabel remembers that she was supposed to meet William at Greasy’s Diner for lunch. Mabel is unseasy upon thinking of talking to him again after what happened the day before, and Dipper confirms by showing William’s current whereabouts through a peephole that William seems about as worried as she is. Mabel takes a deep breath, makes sure that she will be able to see Dipper whenever she needs (during the night for sure, perhaps earlier if she asks for it). Still, just before Dipper wakes her up... She has a favor to ask him.

Mabel: “Now that you can do lots of magic stuff and all... Could you do something for me?”

Back in the gift shop, the tourists have left and Bill was untied due to Stan’s confusion over the situation. However, he is forced to stay inside and is stuck sitting by Wendy’s side behind the cashier desk. When Mabel goes through the gift shop to go to the Diner, everyone notices that she made a new sweater -- one with a pine tree symbol on it, no less. Bill is enraged but can’t stop her from leaving.

William has his first face reveal. He is a blonde 13-year-old, and is already waiting worriedly at Greasy’s Diner when Mabel arrives. He immediately apologizes for what happened on the day before.

William: “About yesterday, I... I’m sorry I said your brother was a bad influence. That was uncalled for.”

Mabel: “Yes. Yes it was.”

William is genuinely apologetic, but soon it is revealed that the reason why he thought Dipper and the Mystery Shack were a bad influence was because he doesn’t believe at all in the supernatural. Even if Mabel told him about her adventures, he assumed they were just stories she made up while playing in the Mystery Shack’s museum and never believed them to be true. Mabel tries to convince him by showing him some episodes of Dipper’s “Guide to the Unexplained” -- a series of videos he used to make and post online at the beginning of their summer break upon arriving in Gravity Falls, but stopped making altogether after Summerween. Sadly, the episodes made up until then did not revolve around exceptionally weird anomalies, and aren’t enough to convince William. The only thing William admits to being strange is the fact that every inhabitant of Gravity Falls is “out of their minds.”

Exasperated by William’s absurdly high levels of skepticism, Mabel eventually dares him to go on a forest expedition with her, Candy and Grenda on the next day, just so they can show him pretty much anything in the forest that is out of the ordinary. William strongly refuses and tries to dissuade her to go into the forest at all; he has been personally forbidden by his mother from going anywhere near the forest, and he has also read on the local news that there is currently a predator of unknown origin or species on the loose, which has been notably attacking sheep from the nearby farm. Mabel teases him about the fact that he believes that this creature is real, and suggests that it might be a werewolf for example; but William doesn’t take her seriously, especially because the creature is supposed to fly.

And... This is the part where my script starts getting wonky. I’ve been trying to fill the holes, but sadly it’s proven to be quite difficult, especially now that I know I won’t be drawing it in comic form anyway. Still, the main plot should be precise enough! The holes are mainly just “there should be some filler and/or foreshadowing to what’s coming here”, with little more than just prompts for what could be happening.

Back in the Mystery Shack’s gift shop, Wendy tries to sneakily question Bill, but when Stan asks them where Mabel went and Bill tells him she skipped her restocking duty so she could spend time with William at the Diner, Stan asks him to get her back. Bill happily takes this opportunity to slip out of the Mystery Shack, and have an excuse to bother Mabel at the same time.

Eventually, William is obligated to accept Mabel’s terms and intends on coming so he can at least make sure that the girls won’t put themselves in danger upon visiting the forest on their own.

Bill arrives at the Diner. William, thinking he is meeting Dipper again, tries to make amends for the things he said the previous day and says that he earnestly thinks they can start again on the right foot; Bill sadistically mocks him instead, all the while pretending to be Dipper, just so he can ruin Mabel’s hopes of reconciling William and Dipper. Bill finishes Mabel by forcing her to leave, saying that Stan expects her to work at the gift shop like she was supposed to since the beginning.

Mabel gone, William and Bill start to have a tense conversation; well, tense on William’s part, while Bill is mostly just having a blast driving William mad. The old fanfic that was the first “draft” version of the story has this chapter, which gathers most of the jokes I intended to keep, and at least some of the plot points. I’ll put a warning for awkward English, though. Oh and also, apparently in the old version it was July 3rd and not July 13th, so in the comic the “tomorrow is July 4th so the forest trip can’t happen anyway” excuse wouldn’t work.

William: “And how would you even know all that?”

Bill: “Because I ate Leonardo da Vinci.”

William: “. . .”

William: “… It must have been some VERY cryptic way for you to say that it was one of those conspiracy things mentioned in the old book supposedly written by a genius that you keep reading passionately every day. Right?”

Bill: “Oh, so your brain CAN work sometimes!”

Bill gets bit by a soothquito. His bite marks spell “FHOASE CORECULLY“

Upon leaving the Diner, they both see someone being kidnapped by a member of the Blindeye Society. William insists they immediately go warn the police, but Blubs and Durland prove to be ineffective as ever. Bill slips in one or two facts about the secret society, but William dismisses them completely as other random insane things Bill just happens to say all the time for trolling purposes.

Mabel is back in the Mystery Shack and starts her restocking duty, but her mind is clearly elsewhere. She starts mumbling to herself, but is interrupted by the decapitated head of Larry King who just happened to be in the vents nearby. Mabel isn’t surprised at all to see he survived, and when Larry King starts "interviewing” her about the issues she was mumbling about, she complies. Some time later, while Soos is cleaning up the floor, he overhears Mabel complaining about Bill being a jerk on purpose and making Dipper seem like a terrible person, and ends up hearing pretty much the whole story that way, without Mabel knowing. Soos proceeds to tell Wendy what he heard, helping them putting two and two together-- all the while understanding why Mabel didn’t warn them, and why they should stay silent as well. They decide not to tell Mabel they know her secret; but when Bill comes back later, just as Wendy’s shift was about to end, she has just one thing to tell him:

Wendy: “Tomorrow 6PM. My place.”

Night time; Bill is annoyed, but not very surprised by the fact that Soos is sleeping with him for the night, in the room on the ground floor where Dipper had relocated. Bill is at least glad he no longer has to pretend to be Dipper around Wendy and him.

Soos proceeds to ask Bill what his intentions were; not just in the present times now that the switch occurred, but also before it.

Soos: “So you really are that triangle guy from two weeks ago?”

Soos: “Now that I'm thinking about it… A lot of things happened two weeks ago. That's when it began to get all wrong. Well, it was already wrong before that, but… That's really when you came that everything started to get all weird and… bad.“

Soos: “It all started because of that Summerween night. What did you want with us?”

Soos: “Why did you tell Dipper that Gideon summoned you?”

Bill: “It was just a job. Jobs are boring. There’s no fun in it if nobody’s trying to stop you.”

Bill: “Oh, and you wanna know the best part? If you’d taken Shooting Star along with you instead of going just the two of you, perhaps you would’ve had an opportunity to beat me.”

Soos: What did you do with Gideon two weeks ago? Dipper and I knew it wasn’t a coincidence that those government guys showed up just the next day.

Bill: “Something that neither Pine Tree nor I want anybody to find out, I bet. Also if I were to tell you, you'd either faint or spend the next fourteen hours trying to explain it all to Red. Funny, but not worth it.”

Soos is disturbed by Bill’s attitude, because of course he tries to both troll and traumatize at once, and given how Soos was already terrified of Bill because of the Summerween night (”I’ve had nightmares for weeks!” from an earlier comic page), it doesn’t help. Soos tries to ask Bill about the deal he made with Gideon -- more specifically, he asks what Bill wanted in return for stealing the code from Stan’s mind. However, Bill doesn’t answer and instead opens the bedroom door to reveal that Mabel was trying to eavesdrop.

Mabel was mostly there to make sure that everything was alright, and deduces that Bill hadn't slept at all during the first night and that he intends to never sleep at all, even after she tells him that humans need sleep to survive. Thankfully she came prepared with a “surprise gift from Candy and Grenda”, and sprays Bill with Fairy Dust.

Mabel: “There’s probably enough in that bag to knock out a gremloblin in an instant, so I think he’s good for the night. :p”

Once Bill is asleep, Dipper takes this chance to come to his Dreamscape and talk to him one-on-one; and, he is not happy at how Bill treated Mabel so far. Still, after a certain point the conversation gets to a more pressing topic.

Bill: “You saw it happen, didn’t you?”

Bill: “Weirdmageddon. You saw it, right?”

Dipper: “. . .”

Bill: “Oh-ho, even better! There’s a timeline in which YOU make it happen, isn’t there?”

Dipper: “That’s not gonna happen.”

Bill: “Look kid, take it from me. The more you try to actively prevent a specific outcome, the more likely you usually make it happen.”

Dipper: “You can’t make something happen if you specifically stop everything that can lead to it from happening first.”

Dipper: “Even if it includes lying to Mabel… I saw it. If she learns there’s a way to get me a physical form, she’ll try anything to make it happen and disregard the consequences. I bet she trusts me to keep things under control, but everything else? There’s just... There’s too many variables. We can’t let her know anything about the portal. Or Weirdmageddon.”

Bill: “Well, that doesn’t change anything from my original plan anyway.”

Bill: “So you’re just gonna stay in the Nightmare Realm forever, is that it?”

Dipper: “That’s not much of a plan so far, but that’s still an effective way to save the world.”

Bill: “Don’t mess with me. You DO know that if you don’t make your way to another dimension eventually, you’re just going to die, right?”

Dipper: “... W-what are you talking about?”

Bill: “Wait. You REALLY didn’t figure that out yet?”

Bill: “The Nightmare Realm is unstable. It’s just gonna collapse one of these days, destroy everything in it. Could be in a billion years. Could be tomorrow.”

After leaving Bill’s Dreamscape, Dipper decides to visit Wendy’s and tell her everything. He confirms her doubts, tells her the whole story with the carpet... And he tells her about Weirdmageddon and what Bill just told him about the Nightmare Realm.

Dipper: “I mean, it’s better this way for everyone, and of course I’m not gonna go with Bill’s original plan to destroy the laws of physics or whatever, but… I-I just don’t wanna die, you know?”

Wendy: “Don’t worry. We’ll find a way.”

It All Starts with Two Missing Kids

I’ve been following this rather crazy story for a few days now and I thought I’d share it with you. Just be warned before you read that this is all ongoing, so there’s a lot we don’t know. I’ll do my best to make it less confusing than it really is for you, and to set aside rumors from known facts.

We’ll start in November of 2019, when Kay and Larry Woodcock called police in Rexburg, Idaho, and asked them to do a welfare check on Joshua “JJ” Vallow, whom they hadn’t heard from since late September. JJ is a 7 year old boy with special needs and although he was Kay and Larry’s biological grandson, he had been adopted by Kay’s brother Charles Vallow and his wife Lori. Charles had died in July 2019, so JJ was living with Lori and her new husband, Chad Daybell (more on that later, because it’s one big piece of this puzzle).

When police arrived to Chad (51) and Lori’s (46) house on November 26, JJ wasn’t there. They claimed that he was staying with a family friend in Arizona, but police soon found out that wasn’t true. They went back the next day with a search warrant, only to find that Lori and Chad had abruptly left town with an unknown destination.

If that wasn’t suspicious enough, authorities realized that JJ wasn’t the only kid missing. His older sister Tylee Ryan, who was Lori’s 17 year old daughter, had also vanished and no one had seen or heard from her since September. Neither of the kids had been reported missing by anyone.

JJ and Tylee’s whereabouts remain unknown, and we don’t even know if they’re alive. Rexburg police has openly said they “strongly” believe they are in danger. In a press release from December 30, they said that witnesses claimed Lori and Chad had told them Tylee had died in 2018, which wasn’t true, and that Chad had told someone else that Lori had “no minor children”. Meanwhile, Lori and Chad, wherever they are, have lawyered up.

While the missing children is undoubtedly the more pressing matter, it’s only the tip of the iceberg in this case. Turns out that both Chad and Lori have quite a shady past, especially in relation to their previous spouses.

Chad was married to a woman called Tammy (49), who was found dead in her home on October 19, 2019 (so a month after the kids went missing). At the time, her death was considered from natural causes, but now police consider it suspicious and have exhumed her body to perform an autopsy and testing. The results, if they have them, haven’t been released yet. Chad married Lori only two weeks after his wife’s death.

Lori, who’d been married four times before finding her fifth husband in Chad, was also a recent widow, but her husband’s death was way more violent than Tammy’s. Charles Vallow and her had separated in early 2019 and their divorce was getting nasty. On July 11, 2019, Charles was shot to death by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, in Arizona (where Lori lived before moving to Rexburg). Alex’s story was that Charles had showed up at the house, an argument had ensued and Charles had hit him with a baseball bat, so he’d shot him in self defense. Alex (51) himself died of unknown causes on December 12, 2019, and his death is currently under investigation as well.

So here is where things get a bit muddier, since some people believe that all this is related to an alleged cult. Both Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow were very religious. Chad owns a publishing company called Spring Creek Book where he had self-published many of his books that talk about the end of times and near death experiences. He and Lori used to appear in podcasts from a media company called Preparing A People, which claims to help prepare people on Earth for the second coming of Christ, and it’s connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The owners of said company issued a statement in December in which they distanced themselves from the couple.

According to the Woodcocks, Lori was a nice woman until she started getting more involved with this religious group in 2018, where she supposedly met Chad. When Charles Vallow filed the divorce papers, he made some very shocking claims about Lori, saying that she was “obsessive about near death experiences and spiritual visions”, that she claimed to be “eternally married to the prophet Moroni” from the Book of Mormon and that she had lived “numerous lives on numerous planets”. The document from February 2019 says: “(Lori) informed (Charles) that she is a translated being who cannot taste death sent by God to lead the 144,000 into the Millennium. She is receiving spiritual revelations and visions to help her gather and prepare those chosen to live in the New Jerusalem after the Great War as prophesied in the book of Revelations”. Charles also claimed that Lori said she had been assigned by God to “carry out the work of the 144,000 at Christ’s second coming in July 2020″ and that if he got in her way she would kill him, and that had an angel who would help her dispose of his body. And as we know, Charles was dead only 5 months later.

There are reports that Lori left Charles because he was cheating on her during his business trips. One police report seems to believe that Charles was the most suspicious of the two, and you can read about it here. So I guess we need to keep our minds open regarding this part of the story.

To add a little to the weirdness, a man called Brandon Boudreaux was married to Lori’s niece and claims she abruptly asked for divorce after she started spending time with Lori’s religious group. Then, in October 2, 2019, Brandon was shot at by some unknown assailant while he was driving a car registered in Lori’s name. The bullet missed him, but Brandon is convinced that it’s connected to this alleged cult (which, to be fair, hasn’t been officially confirmed by anyone).

Tylee’s dad, Joseph Ryan, who was Lori’s third husband, died in 2018 from a heart attack.

So far no charges have been pressed against Chad and Lori, who remain uncooperative with the investigation and refusing to reveal where her kids are. Their lawer issued a statement saying: “Chad Daybell was a loving husband and has the support of his children in this matter. Lori (Vallow) Daybell is a devoted mother and resents assertions to the contrary. We look forward to addressing the allegations once they have moved beyond speculation and rumor”.

UPDATE Jan 27, 2020

Authorities have located Lori and Chad in Hawaii. The children are not with them and there’s no evidence they were ever in Hawaii either, and the couple has again refused to tell police where they are. They have been given a child protection order, which requires Lori to physically produce Tylee and JJ to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in Rexburg or to the Rexburg Police within five days, otherwise she might be subject to civil or criminal contempt of court.

UPDATE FEB 11, 2020

The deadline passed, Tylee and JJ’s whereabouts are still unknown. We’ve learned a few things, though:

- In August 2019, about a month after Charles Vallow was murdered and shortly before Lori and her new husband moved from Arizona, where she lived with her kids, to Idaho, she gave away JJ’s service dog, even though he was vital for her son’s treatment. She tried to sell the dog, Bailey, first for 2.500, but ended up telling Bailey’s trainer to take him (x).

- Tylee’s cellphone was found in her mother’s possession in Hawaii. According to several sources, the phone has been used since Tylee was last seen in September, but a text sent to a friend didn’t sound like her (x). Her older brother Colby also got texts from Tylee until October, but would never be able to talk on the phone with him when he tried. Colby also found Tylee’s texting style back then different from usual (x).

- Between October and November 2019, Lori put all her kids’ belongings in a storing unit in Idaho (x).

- When Charles Vallow was murdered by her own brother, Lori told the news to his adult sons from a previous relationship by text, telling them only that their father had died and kept avoiding explaining how exactly he died (x).

So far no arrests have been made, despite Lori’s refusal to comply with a court order. Police are likely working on gathering enough evidence to be able to charge her with something.

Isolated on Louis' farm with nobody but a field of dairy cows to intrude, the men are finally able to explore the parts of themselves they've spent their lives hiding away.

Before he goes on his way, though, he plucks the note from the top of the container and carefully tucks it inside of his wallet to protect it from the rain.

Edd woke up on a couch. The couch was a grassy green with plaid markings and smelled of lavender. He smiled at the warmth and tried to go back to sleep until he realized that it wasn't his couch. He jerked up into a sitting position and looked around. The living room was nice and clean, save for some dirty cleats and his own shoes by the door. The clock by the window said 9 pm. He looked up at the wall and made a surprised noise, his cheeks turning pink. There was a family picture hanging on the wall and in the middle of his parents was Kevin.

"Oh my. H-how did I end up in Kevin's home??" Edd whispered to himself, gripping his hat tightly around his head. He jumped when he heard a voice.

"Dork! You're awake! I was starting to think you died or something." Kevin walked around the couch shirtless, wearing sweatpants and rubbing a towel on his hair. He smiled at Edd and sat down beside him.

Edd blushed redder, looking away, "hey, Kevin. What happened?"

"Well I don't really know. When you didn't show up to the game, I got worried since you always watched. So, I looked for you on my way home, thinking Eddy got you to do another scam. That's when I saw your legs hanging out of a trashcan." Kevin started rubbing the towel on his shoulder.

"So, I carried you here and tried to clean your wounds." That's when Edd noticed the band-aids all over his arms. He smiled, thinking of how Kevin was thoughtful enough to patch him up.

"Thank you, Kevin. That was really kind of you." Double D looked at him and noticed his concerned look.

"Double D, what happened back there? Those looked serious."

"Oh, it was just Ky--" he suddenly remembered that Kyle and Larry were football players. If he said anything they would find out. He bit his lip.

Kevin raised an eyebrow, "who?"

"It... It was... umm I can't remember. I must have bumped my head." He stammered, fake chuckling. Kevin lowered his arms and towel onto his lap and watched Edd carefully.

He shook his head, "you're weird, double-dork. Well, be more defensive next time you see them. I don't want this to be a fad." Edd nodded, his eyes catching onto Kevin's abs that was starting to show. His eyes trailed up to the defined pecs and collarbone. Edd hasn't seen Kevin without his shirt since summer so it was intense for him. His eyes drifted up to the Jock's lips and his mind immediately started imagining kissing them. How would they feel against his own? Would he taste like mint or coffee? He locked eyes with Kevin, the same emerald green eyes that started it all. They looked deep and captivating, like they could swallow him up.

Kevin cleared his throat and Edd snapped out of it. He looked down at his feet as his blush came back. 'fuck. How long was I staring? Did he notice?' he thought to himself.

Kevin's smirked, "what's up, dweeb? Cat caught your tongue?"

Edd bit his lip, "sor... Sorry, Kevin. I just got lost in thought there. Err... Was the game alright?"

"You kidding? The cobblers KILLED it like always!" Kevin laughed, flexing his muscles a little. Double D saw this and giggles.

"Yes, I know of your talents on being captain. I'm glad to hear the team won!" He smiled at the jock.

Kevin turned a little red and rubbed his neck, "aw it's just nice to play for my school. I'm very proud of my teammates. Some of them are lazy but it's okay I guess."

Double D nodded, "good! I'm most delighted of your accomplishments!" They smiled at each other and Edd felt like, for a moment, that it was just the two of them in the world. It was intoxicating and he never wanted it to end. He longed to kiss Kevin, to feel his hair between his fingers. The urge grew and Edd knew that if he didn't say something, he would end up acting on it.

Double D patted his own lap, "well I thank you for your hospitality, but I must get home so that you can rest in peace." He stood up and felt his knees buckle a little. He took one step before the dizziness set in. He began to fall but Kevin caught him.

"Woah, dude, you nearly bumped your head again. Come on." The jock lifted him bridle-style and began walking down his hallway. Edd felt his whole face turn red. He was being carried by Kevin of all people. His mind was running a million miles a minute. Kevin kicked open a door and walked into a clean and neat room with a full bed covered in a blue comforter. There was hardly anything in the room except a single nightstand, a dresser and a living chair beside it. Kevin sat Edd down in the seat and started turning down the bed.

"This is the guest room. You're too weak to walk home this late so I want you to sleep here tonight, alright?"

Double D fiddled his thumbs. He wanted to deny the claim of weakness, but he knew it was true. Kyle and Larry must have stomped on him while they were kicking. 'thank goodness I worked to stop my obsession with labels.' he thought to himself.

"Thank you, Kevin. I do apologize. I didn't mean for this to happen."

"Don't mention it. I might call you a dork, but you're still my friend. Now here." He reached his hand over. Edd bit his lip, taking the hand. Kevin helped him up and led him to the bed. Edd eased onto the bed and pulled the covers over himself.

"Hey, double-dork, are you really going to sleep in your hat?"

Edd looked up at Kevin, "oh yes, I mean, I don't really feel comfortable taking it off."

"Hey, that's okay. Just wondering." Kevin shrugged and walked to the door, turning off the light.

"Goodnight, dweeb."

He smiled, "goodnight, Kevin."

The next morning Edd woke up to birds chirping. He eased so he was sitting on the side of the bed and noticed major bruises on his thighs and arms. He sighed, not looking forward to the embarrassment he'll face in school. He stood up slowly and tried to walk. He didn't feel dizzy anymore, but he was in pain with every step. He made his way to the door and to the kitchen. Kevin was sitting on top of one of the counters eating a pop tart while wearing his sweatpants and nothing else.

Edd jumped at the sight, "hey, Kevin. Did-did you sleep well?"

"Yeah! How about you? Are you feeling better?" Kevin asked, pointing at Edd with his pop tart.

"Heh. Yeah I am. Thank you very much for last night." He smiled at the jock happily.

Edd noticed Kevin go red and look away, "it's whatever. Just thought you looked pitiful or something."

Double D didn't pay no mind and looked outside, "I'm going to head home since I'm feeling alright so I can clean myself up. Thank you for your kindness." Edd walked to the door and was about to leave but Kevin piped up.

"Hey dork, wait!" Edd turned around as Kevin walked up to him. Double D felt what happened last night happen again as they looked in each other's eyes.

"Y-yes, Kevin?"

"I... I was wondering..." He started, rubbing his shoulder, "I was wondering if you wanna hang later? I mean, of that's alright."

Edd blushed and bit his lip softly, "I would really enjoy socializing with you. Is there a time you can think of?"

"4 pm?"

"That's satisfactory! I'll be here!" Edd nodded.

"Awesome- I mean. Yeah that's cool I guess." Kevin said nonchalantly, putting his hands in his pockets.

Edd smiled, putting on his shoes and opening the door, "well then. I'll see you then." He left the house and closed the door behind him. He made quick work to reach his home and unlock the door. As he entered the safety of his house he fell to his knees and hugged himself close.

"My word! Oh, my goodness. Sweet fuck it's really happening. Me and Kevin are going to spend time together! Maybe this is the time. Maybe he likes me too!" He smiled, hugging himself tighter in happiness. He checked the time.

"Okay it's 12 pm. I have time to get a shower." He whispered to himself.

Edd spent the next few hours cleaning himself and trying to calm himself down. He made his way out the door and noticed the red head in front of his home buffing out dirt from his motorcycle. Double D smiled and made his way toward the other.

"Hey, Kevin!" He greeted, doing a small wave. The other looked up and smiled back.

"Hey you made it! How are you feeling?"

"Much better after my shower, thank you for asking. I see you installed new grips on your handles." Edd motioned toward the bike.

"Oh yeah! The old ones were a little rough on my hands. Plus, the brown looks better against the metal." Kevin patted the headlight of his motorcycle. Edd leaned against his heels, smiling softly at his crush talking about his ride.

"It does look good. Do you want to talk about your bike? I would love to learn about the mechanics of a ride such as this."

Kevin beamed at Edd's words, "uh. Sure! Well to start, when I got it, I had to tune the exhaust because the last owner didn't take care of it and it used too much gas as a result. So, what I did was--" Double D nodded and listened intently. He loved learning new things. Especially if that new thing was Kevin's pride and joy. He moved and sat on the sidewalk and the jock joined him while still talking about his bike.

They stayed like that for what felt like hours. Edd looking at Kevin lovingly while they discussed the properties of mechanical engineering and Kevin talking about his motorcycle. Edd never wanted it to stop but Kevin's door opened, and his mother appeared on the porch.

"Hey, Kevin sweety, it's time for dinner. Tell your friend goodbye."

Kevin groaned and stood up, "yes, mom!"

Edd stood up, "when did your parents come home?"

"My mom came home from grocery shopping around one. Dad's still at work." The jock explained. Edd nodded and looked down at his shoes.

"Well... I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed this." Double D said softly, looking up in the other's eyes.

Kevin did the same, "I did too. You know, you really grew out of your dorkness, dork." Kevin rubbed the back of his own neck and Edd chuckled softly.

"I'm taking that as a compliment." Double D smiled and backed up a little.

"Well I hope you have a wonderful dinner and be sure to study for that big test this week." Edd said and started walking away.

"Hey!" Kevin called to him.

Edd looked over his shoulder, "y-yes?"

"Wanna... Help me with that sometime this week? I could use some help."

Double D felt himself turn pink, "sure! Yeah. Yeah, I'll help you, Kevin!"

"Thank you, dude." The jock said, smiling and going to his home.

Once Kevin entered his home, Edd twirled in place and almost floated toward his own house. That's when he noticed Eddy 'psst'ing him from a bush. Double D made his way to the bush, Eddy and Ed crawled out if it.

"Were you two eavesdropping on us the whole time?" Edd asked, folding his arms.

"Noooo of course not! Why would we do that?" Eddy said innocently, shrugging.

Double D looked at the taller of the two, "Ed, were you and Eddy listening to me and Kevin?"

Ed nodded, smiling, "yes we were, double D! We wanted to make sure everything went smoothly!" Eddy glared and slapped the back of Ed's head. Ed exclaimed 'ow'.

"I wondered why neither of you tried to butt-in." Edd smiled, "thank you both for letting me have this moment."

"It's nothing. Don't get used to it." Eddy said, kicking a rock.

"You're welcome, Double D! Did Kevin say he loved you yet?" Ed asked, nudging Edd a little roughly.

Double D blushed, "not yet. It takes a while. Plus, I haven't... Confessed yet."

"Sockhead, you know that if you don't make a move soon someone else will and then what are you going to do?"

"I know that, Eddy! It's just hard to know when it's like this."

Ed piped up, "well you know what they say in my comic book: 'you love--" he was cut off by a loud screaming voice.

"ED! MOM SAYS GET YOUR BUTT HOME BEFORE YOU'RE GROUNDED!" Sarah screamed from their house.

Ed jumped in fear, "uuh guys, I'll see you tomorrow okay?"

"Goodnight, lumpy." Eddy said.

"Farewell, Ed." Double D joined in.

"I better get home too. Just remember what I said. Sleep well." Eddy elbowed Edd and walked to his own home.

Double D looked up at the growing night sky. The sun disappearing over the houses and the slight hint of stars scattering over his head. The twinkling of the distant suns made Edd feel as if tomorrow was the day. That it was going to be a good day. He smiled and made his way into his home.

Don’t be a hypocrite, you rejected me even though you were in love with me —”" and the rest of the scene if you want to haha, not a lot fits in the ask box :P

Alright!! I’ll do... most of the scene haha, there is one part of the scene I really want to point out, so I’ll once again put this under a keep reading so I don’t take up all this space on people’s dashboards...

Okay!

So basically this part of the scene existed because... I kind of wanted to touch on Miles’ perspective throughout this entire fic as well as a handful of headcanons for Miles and also so that I could fit in a bunch of narumitsu fluff in there somewhere, since my notes for this chapter were pretty much to just shove as much fluff as possible to make up for the rest of it.

In some ways I’m kind of regretting talking about Miles’ perspective because that reduces some of my flexibility for possibly rewriting this fic entirely from Miles’ perspective OR the handful of jumbled scenes that could potentially form a sequel someday... but honestly writing has been like pulling teeth lately so who knows if that will happen at all. Either way I’m sure I’ll be able to get it to work somehow. (Also kind of... directly pointing out what Miles was feeling when it probably would’ve been a better decision to leave it implicit but WHATEVER TOO LATE NOW --)

“When did you fall in love with me?”

Miles didn’t say anything, and Phoenix might have thought he fell asleep again if it weren’t for his breathing. It didn’t line up with what Phoenix had learned from experience, when Miles fell asleep.

Eventually Miles said, “Do you want to know when it happened, when I realized it, or when I came to terms with it?”

“You have three answers?”

when you’re Miles Edgeworth emotions are waaaaay more complicated than they need to be huh. Since this scene was just Dumping Ground For My Headcanons they for the most part tend to line up with what I think most of the time, buuut I might go into more detail a little later.

“Technically four. Don’t be a hypocrite, you rejected me even though you were in love with me —”

Phoenix shushed him by clapping a hand over his mouth, except he missed in the dark and slapped Miles’ nose instead. “Whoops! Sorry. Okay. Give me all four.”

aww see they can laugh about it now like Miles didn’t cry for several hours after the rejection :’)

“I should have guessed,” Miles sighed. He used the hand not currently squished against his side by Phoenix’s entire body to hold Phoenix’s hand, guiding it down from his face and holding it against his chest.

This is me trying to find a way to write affection in a way that isn’t totally awkward... uh so basicallyyyy I am not a very affectionate person and I don’t think Miles is particularly big on physical affection most of the time, so when I write him trying to express affection I typically go for subtler things... like hand-holding and such, because I think even that much would be a pretty big deal for him when it wouldn’t be for some other people.

Pretty much every time in this fic he initiates any form of physical touch (which is pretty often because he is attempting to Court Phoenix (ba dum tshhh)) it’s something that he’s deliberately thought through and deliberately initiated, as opposed to like... Phoenix who does it more unconsciously. (And of course not all of Miles’ initiation of physical affection is strictly romantic, I like to headcanon him making an effort towards platonic physical affection as well towards his friends + found family members... just putting this here to cover my bases so no one thinks every time Miles puts his hand on someone’s shoulder he’s flirting with them haha that’s NOT what I was going for, more that he’s aware that lots of people enjoy physical contact and see that as a way of expressing affection, and he’s trying to get better at expressing affection, and Phoenix happens to be one of those people he is expressing affection to, in both the platonic and romantic sense.)

(That was a very long paragraph for literally one sentence about affection hahahaha...)

“Well, I am fairly sure I had a crush on you in fourth grade.”

“No, you didn’t. I had a crush on you in fourth grade, I changed my whole career for you because of it. You were in love with your law books.”

“I told you I ‘liked’ you and you started talking about girls.”

“O-Okay, sorry I didn’t know about bisexuality when I was nine, give me a break here.”

I waver back and forth on whether Miles had a little baby crush on Phoenix in fourth grade or not, I guess when I wrote this I was feeling that way! Anyways this line is referencing the flashback part of chapter 3:

“Do you like anyone, Miles?”

Miles blinked. “I like you.”

Phoenix’s face reddened. “N-No, I meant like-like. You know, like a girl.”

Miles looked at the ground, and his face was red as well.

this fic would have been over with SO MUCH FASTER if Phoenix actually knew what he meant there --

My interpretation is pretty much always that Phoenix had a little baby crush on Miles in fourth grade, but it wasn’t until he got older that he realized that it was a crush and not just pure idolization -- which was definitely part of it too, and I could probably write thousands of words on how baby Phoenix’s idolization crush on Miles when he was younger shaped some of their interactions throughout the trilogy but I’m not going to get into that now. I thiiink I said in this fic somewhere that Phoenix didn’t realize he was bi until he was in his teens, so baby Phoenix just thought that Miles was His Best Friend Who He Wants To Hang Out With All The Time And Hold Hands With And If Miles Were A Girl Phoenix Would Want To Kiss Him, and at some point adult Phoenix remembers this train of thought and goes “... wait.”

As for Miles, in the universe of this fic he figures out that he’s gay pretty young, probably largely influenced by Larry talking constantly about girls while Miles complains to his father “I don’t know why Larry’s talking about how pretty [girl of the day] is, I think Phoenix has a nicer smile” while Gregory tries to pretend his laughter is him choking on his dinner. And I think Gregory was an excellent father who loved and supported his son, and probably talked about it a bit with him and made sure Miles knew he was always loved and supported no matter what and --

Anyways, there’s that.

The next paragraphs are mostly them talking about the situations where Miles did fall in love with Phoenix (Turnabout Goodbyes) and then realized it (after Farewell, My Turnabout/ when Phoenix fell off the bridge) then kind of... repressed it until post-canon because he didn’t think he was ready yet and they weren’t really in the right place. I don’t have much to say about it because it’s all pretty straightforward stuff...

Then Phoenix deflects Miles asking about when he fell in love, because Phoenix is still struggling a bit with expressing his emotions this way haha. Also because he was in denial for a really long time so he can’t quite pinpoint exact moments aside from “the moment Miles stood up for him during the class trial”, but much like Miles he’s probably had multiple realizations of love throughout his life.

My personal headcanons though is that Phoenix genuinely thought he was just helping out a friend throughout the trilogy... and then sometime during disbarment, possibly during one of those Europe trips, he realizes “oh crap I loved him the whole time”. Obviously in this fic Phoenix doesn’t realize he’s in love with Miles until the cherry blossom petals scene at the end of chapter 4 and then can’t quite articulate that feeling as love rather than more general attraction until the end of chapter 8 after reading Trucy’s note. (Where the last psyche-lock breaks!)

What I DO want to talk about though is this line at the end of the scene:

“It doesn’t matter when I realized it,” Phoenix whispered. “What matters most is that we’re here, together, now.”

No one’s pointed it out so idk if it was too subtle or too obvious that it didn’t need pointing out, but it’s a callback to this line in chapter 4:

Edgeworth stared at him with an unreadable expression, almost curious. “Well, you don’t have to say anything,” he said. “What matters most is that I can be here with you now.”

It’s a very slight difference in the last part of the dialogue, but an important one!!

I had an interesting conversation with my best friend a while ago... long story short her brother was in a relationship for a long time with this one woman then they broke up and now he’s engaged to a different woman, and they dated for a shorter time than the first. And my friend says that she and her family knew that this was a different relationship and that she was “the one” because the way they talked about doing things was different -- more of a “we’re going to do [x]” rather than “she and I are going to do [x]”. This probably isn’t really a real thing so like... don’t use it to judge relationships around you... but I thought it was pretty neat.

So in the conversation in chapter 4, Miles says “What matters most is that I can be here with you now”, which is still like exceptionally romantic, but it still sees the two of them as separate entities -- whereas Phoenix in chapter 9 saying “What matters most is that we’re here, together, now” sort of phrases the two of them as more of a unit. ... not that they’re not still separate entities with their own lives outside of just each other of course but you know. you know. just having some fun with sentences!
