things we know about the silken squall:

they have a drama club! dorian was in it!

rulers willing to put their children under a zone of truth spell if they were suspected of lying

a nomadic society, historically traveling worldwide, but in dorian and cyrus' lifetime they have never left marquet

rulers who left the city for years of wandering in their youths, but then pretended this never happened/wasn't the norm in order to keep their sons cloistered within the city

all air genasi are welcome! non-air genasi are also welcome--under strict guard

they have no formal monarchy, but a monarchy is nevertheless the closest to what their system of governance is. dorian frames his parents' role as giving advice to any who ask, imparting wisdom to the community, but the position is both an elevated and hereditary one. should his parents die, dorian would be expected to take over this position regardless of how much or little wisdom he had to impart to his people

due to the cloistered nature of dorian's upbringing, he had no friends before leaving and meeting the crown keepers. this implies some interesting distance between the quasi-royal family and, well. anyone else who could have been dorian's friend growing up

dorian and cyrus' formal dress included laurel headpieces denoting their status as quasi-princes

at some earlier time in dorian's life, he attended a court dance (not even a ball) where an uninvited guest showed up. to quote dorian, they were "killed immediately" due to walking into an environment where sensitive information between politicians may have been discussed

One of my favorite things about Granada Holmes is the fact that it starts with the relationship between Holmes and Watson already established. They've been living together a few years already, and we get a fast yet wonderful glimpse at what that relationship is within the first few minutes of the first episode.

Watson comes in worried about Holmes' mood and then his health (when he thinks he's been on the drugs).

We have Holmes sort of playing a little prank on Watson. Going on and on about how he hates being bored and that's why he uses drugs, only to reveal that he actually has a case and hadn't touched the syringe at all.

He asks Watson for his deductions and celebrates when he's right.

Holmes bought Watson some cigars!! "You see, I was not unmindful of your return".

Then they get to meet the client together as partners. "I am lost without my Boswell"

In quite rapid succession we have a series of little moments and interactions that lay out exactly who these characters are and what their relationship is like. Not even 10 minutes in and you feel like you've known these characters for years. That's wonderful writing imo

Something something how Frankie's hair matches Donnie's jacket and how Donnie's hair matches Frankie's jacket. They're both always together even if no one realises it because they've become so important to each other that they subconsciously choose things to wear or have around them that reminds each of them of their brother. How that makes the death at the end even more tragic because they're finally apart, but Frankie still has the jacket to remind him of Donnie, so he'll always be there but never again physically, something something.

Absolutely losing my mind over Scar’s stream today

He was already talking to Etho while catching ocelots

Joel logs in and Scar immediately asks if Etho wants to go visit him

We get so many Etho lore crumbs (although he doesn’t fully confirm anything except having stubble and trying to get rid of 2 extra house generators)

They hang out for like 2 hours doing nothing hut chatting

Eventually Scar leaves but forgot that he left his ocelots at Etho’s because he was so excited about boat boys that he never brought them home

but genuinely I will never stop thinking about the museum scene. like it's upsetting in all the obvious setup-to-the-plot-twist ways, but more than that: the quietness of Steve’s presence vs. the booming grandiosity of the exhibit itself. The question of whether he had been previously (my guess would be yes) and if so, what a morbid, ghost-like ritual to perform just in order to cling to your memory, to remind yourself that it was real. What a blunt, reductive manifestation of not only everything you’ve lost, but the fact that your life and memory have become so entrenched a part of the public domain to the point that you’re viewed as about as much of a person as any one dusty item in that exhibit; the fact that you can’t access any of your world outside of yourself unless it’s through about a dozen second-hand, funhouse mirror narratives not only entirely co-opted by war but also tailored to fit a certain purpose. This one very public fucking horrific way to keep torturing yourself is one of your only remaining tethers to what you remember of your life. I mean. jesus christ steve
