just a bunch of headcanons about soleil as a kid

he was extremely shy and had a terrible stutter

he's always been pretty tall for his age

he was a chunky kid, and often got picked on for it.

he lived in costa del sol until the age of 7. then he and his family moved to midgar

every summer he goes back to costa where he stays with his grandmother

he really didn't have many friends. more often than not, he befriended the locals

a lot of his pastimes involved things like playing cards with an cranky old many on the beach and exploring the less developed areas outside of town. He tried to always avoid the more touristy parts

he thinks of his grandmother as his best friend. she taught him how to cook and bake and to share his love through food. he writes letters and calls whenever he can.

when he turned thirteen, his father pressured him to join the military (namely the newly touted SOLDIER program). he did not want to join, be did so to please his father. though it did help that he admired and even had a little crush on the boys that promoted the program

Titan's Prophet AU Masterpost/Overview

A Philip Wittebane centric AU. Character relationships at the bottom of the post.

When Philip first arrived on the Isles, alone and hostile, the Titan attempted to reach out to guide him, subtly at first and less so as the stubborn man ignored the signs.

Eventually the Titan reached out telepathically - and even then Philip accused the Titan of being the voice of the Devil. It was only through ignoring the Titan's warnings repeatedly that he began to maybe consider this guide might not be evil. And once that trust was established, Philip was constantly asking questions about this place, and the Titan answered where she could.

By the time Philip reached Caleb, there was still an argument about being abandoned, but that's all it was: an argument.

Philip wound up living with them, helping Evelyn with potions and writing a book about the Isles from the perspective of a newcomer, published under the pseudonym Belos. It was around this time that Caleb carved Philip his own palisman, Tate(r).

When he heard Evelyn refer to the Titan in a manner similar to God and the Titan responded, Philip had a little tiny bit of a freak out. He was a chosen prophet of the God of this place? He was special. He was Chosen.

Caleb and Evelyn didn't quite believe him at first, but as he demonstrated knowledge he couldn't possibly have obtained any other way they began to.

And Philip was so eager to be directed by the Titan; the Titan had a means to influence the world in a bigger way with Philip. Caleb carved Philip a new mask and he went out to solve the world's problems as Belos, the Titan's Prophet!

He travelled all over the Isles, warning people of impending disaster, resolving conflict and occasionally running into trouble. The Titan shared some of her power with him, enabling him to cast magic similar to a witch, and lengthened his lifespan significantly.

Between following the Titan's bidding he returned to Evelyn and Caleb's home and their seemingly endlessly growing brood. In this time he built the Portal Door and subsequently lost it after a single use, Philip couldn't hear the Titan in the Human Realm so he returned to the Boiling Isles fairly quickly.

As more time passed, Philip asked the Titan to extend Caleb's life as well, which the Titan agreed to if that was what Caleb wanted. But Caleb rejected the offer - he was happy with the life he'd been given, he didn't want to watch Evelyn and his kids die, to outlive them like that. He was happy Philip had found his place in the world and had really grown into an accomplished man, but eternity was not for him.

There was a lot of bitterness about that decision and Philip tried to find a way to convince or force Caleb to accept the offer, but he never could, even on Caleb's deathbed.

Philip was left the house, and began wallowing in grief. The Titan installed Hooty into the house to keep Philip company and draw the man out of his misery. It worked.

Philip resumed missions with Hooty acting as security while he was away, but any Clawthorne was welcome to use the house as needed, it acted mostly as a family home.

The Titan's requests slowed as time went on, partly because there's only so many problems that can be solved by throwing Philip at them and partly because while Philip's lifespan had been extended, he was still aging and the Titan was worried it was becoming too much for him.

He became the Clawthorne family historian, good old uncle Philip, always reliably there. The general assumption is that the prophet Belos died, most of the Clawthornes didn't know that he'd even been the prophet.

The Sovereign took control of the Isles and Philip did ask if he should do something about that but was advised to stand down, which he did, reluctantly. He still wrote scathing political takes in the paper under the name Belos - most people assume it is just a reference to the old prophet for those who know their history.

When Edalyn was cursed and ran away from home she inevitably turned up at Philip's, who gladly took her in despite the attack on Dell - he was confident he could handle Eda at her worst with the Titan's blessing.

Philip has basically become a homebody, rarely leaving the house, the general public don't even know he exists.

Character Relations (most interactions would take place in the first season equivalent)

Luz - A new young face around the house. Philip is somewhat indifferent until he realizes she's human - he's warming up to Luz.

Edalyn - Beloved annoying niece.

King - Beloved son. Spoils him. King does not know he's a Titan at this point, though Philip does draw the Titan often and tells him that it's King's father.

Hooty - A good very annoying friend.

Hunter - Who's that? And why does he look like my long-deceased brother?

Lilith - Beloved niece. Reminds him of himself.

Willow - Luz's friend from school?

Gus - Luz's friend from school?

Amity - Luz's ??? from school?

Raine - Eda's ex. Shame, Philip really liked them, which should have been his first warning that it wasn't gonna work out - he never likes the Clawthorne's partners.

Dell - Beloved nephew, reminds him a lot of Caleb.

Gwendolyn - Not fond. Kind of amused that she is a -lyn that joined the family instead of being born into it.

The Sovereign - Never met them and never wants to.

The Titan - Partner.

i didn’t really get fortnight but the minute it even vaguely clicks it’s on 24/7. like it’s so good now.

like “you’re wife waters flowers/ I wanna kill her” like the narrator has no idea about the wife, she knows nothing other than that she is in the way of an old flame. ‘she waters flowers’ like yeah that’s something that happens in the yard, where anyone can see her. the narrator is locked out of the neighbors life and is making no way in

and ‘my husbands cheating, I wanna kill him’ it’s almost the same. he’s not named he’s not important enough for that, the fact that’s he’s cheating isn’t even important now, just a justification to want to kill him. I wasn’t even mentioned in the song before the neighbors wife. the narrator just wants to get back to her ex.

On Chainsaw Man, Fujimoto, and Female Characters

basically, what prompted this lengthy post is this tweet as well as this other tweet . i know the first one is clearly meant as a joke and the second one was made all in good faith too— but i have thoughts and i need to get them out or else my brain will explode.

csm is regarded as one of the rare series to have good representation for its female characters. the word good itself is extremely subjective and means differently for each person, but for majority of ppl in the anime community, csm’s representation of women is good in a sense that it subverts gender norms, places women either equally or even higher than men, grants them with actual personalities and character depth, and lets them have autonomy and agency.

this isn’t a surprise considering fujimoto has said, and i quote, “i want to put women on a higher pedestal than men.” we all know the infamous story of a woman flipping his bike and laughing at him when he was in college, how he liked it, and how it defined his tough and dominant taste in women. which certainly explains how his female characters are written.

fujimoto almost writes his female characters in the same light as he writes male characters. they’re all compelling in their own ways with their own set of flaws and motivstions. except for one thing: he writes with the male gaze, and his female characters are sexualized in a way that his male characters aren’t.

pointing back to one of the tweets i mentioned before. i think what prompted the tweet and the is fujimoto a misogynist discourse circulating currently is due to the weird fan service in the latest csm chapter where asa gets stripped down to her underwear— in the middle of a fight.

this unsurprisingly sparked debate, mostly with people arguing that if it was hori (mangaka of mha) the backlash would have already been immense but since it’s fujimoto, no one bats an eye. some people argue that it’s not weird, since asa being stripped to her underwear wasn’t framed in a sexualized lens, while others argue that fujimoto and hori are not comparable because fujimoto can actually write female characters unlike the latter who (in their words, i personally haven’t read/watched mha so i can’t say much) writes them one-dimensionally and can’t write women to save his life.

my two cents in this is a.) the fan service was weird, unnecessary, and was out of nowhere b.) it’s definitely not on the same degree of sexualization as to what ive seen hori did before and i can kind of get why some people said that it’s not framed sexually but i still see it as sexualization but more subtle c.) i think at the end of the day, fujimoto does end up getting away with things he shouldn’t be able to just because he writes women better.

i think my problem is rooted on the fact that fujimoto gets praised too much compared to what he actually deserves. with the amount and weight of praise that he gets for the writing of csm’s women, you would think that he’s this revolutionary writer who set the standard and is the epitome for how male mangakas should write women when no, his portrayal also has it’s own share of shortcomings and is subject to criticism.

it’s very easy to end up praising him with high regard because as mentioned, he does write women with depth, makes them compelling, makes them dominant and tough, and grants them agency. no woman in csm is a damsel in distress. and these qualities are extremely and unfortunately rare for women from other shonen stories. but a woman being able to take care of herself and having her own agency and personality shouldn’t be the only basis on how audiences should perceive well written female characters— because that’s the bare minimum. when one looks at a male character from a story and he’s able to take care of himself, has his own personality and goals, and he gets shit done, is he regarded with the same praise? no. because it’s the bare minimum and it’s the norm.

it should also be noted that a female character being strong doesn’t inherently equate to being well written but that’s a conversation for another day.

point is, the bar for male writers are in hell. fujimoto can write women better compared to other mangakas, but it’s not like he’s perfect. i don’t think he’s exactly a misogynist, but he’s certainly not a feminist either and his writing still has misogynistic undertones and tendencies because, once again, ~the male gaze~. i’m not implying that fujimoto shouldn’t be praised for his portrayal of women. i think he can, to a certain extent because he does write better compared to others, but it shouldn’t be on the same high regard that he can get away with his shortcomings.

i know some people might say that chainsaw man have always been written with the male gaze since the beginning, so if you can’t stand it, then don’t read the series. but i do like the series, and just because i like something doesn’t mean that i can’t criticize it and just because i criticize something doesn’t mean that ill drop it either. there’s no time limit on criticism either.

for the record, this post is by no means anti fujimoto. on the contrary, i like him and i think he’s a prolific writer, but like everybody and everything else, no one is above criticism. and i think the best way to move forward in things is to have nuanced and healthy conversations.

Erik was the first born of the hybrid triplets and perhaps that's the reason why the barely older brother has always felt a need to protect all of his siblings, but especially Klaus and Kareena. His need to protect them started when they were still very young, Erik sometimes pretending to be his identical brother so Klaus wouldn't have to endure more abuse from Mikael. It didn't always work out in his favor of course, but it was all the small boy could do at the time.

As he got older though he got bolder and stood up to their so-called Father more, and not angrily either. Erik would speak calmly and try to reason with Mikael, he failed most of the time and that was when the angrier side of Erik would come out, a side of him he doesn't love or enjoy giving into but even he knows sometimes there's no reasoning with certain people.

After the tragic death of their younger brother Henrik that led to Esther turning all of her children into immortals Erik had an even harder time keeping that side of him at bay. It wasn't until Klaus had accidentally killed someone after turning and activated his curse that Erik realized that side of him was more than just an anger burning beneath his skin. Kareena had been the next to activate her curse, not having known yet that the three of them had the werewolf gene.

Erik tried to keep the beast inside at bay but with his newfound bloodlust it was extremely difficult. However, the newly turned vampire was doing a decent job of it until he caught a few of the other villagers surrounding Kareena and Klaus, calling them abominations, monsters, killers, beasts. That was when Erik lashed out, telling them that if they truly wanted to see a monster that he would show them one. It wasn't until after that happened that Mikael and Esther decided to use magic to block the triplet's werewolf sides.

Over the next few decades Erik stayed with his family, trying his best to keep Klaus in control though even with Elijah's help that proved to be a difficult task. However, Erik and Kareena weren't able to be daggered like the rest of his siblings, much to Klaus dismay at times. Because of that it often led to the two brothers fighting out whatever they were arguing about or disagreeing over, Klaus usually starting the physical fight as Erik has always been more of a lover and protector than a fighter.

He's always seen fighting as an unnecessary evil that he's had to resort to when needed. Erik's main priority the thousand years he's been alive has always been to keep his family safe and protected, no matter what it cost him. That's perhaps why the hybrid often found himself sacrificing his own happiness for his siblings, most specifically Klaus.

He's never resented his brother for it as he knows it was all his own choice though a part of him regrets not living his immortal life to the fullest for so long. After Hope was born and his brother slowly but surely started to change and become the man that Erik not only knew he always could be but the brother he had known a thousand years before Erik finally felt like he had done his job and started allowing himself to do the things he always wanted to do.

Main Verse; Mostly canon up until season 5 when Hayley, Klaus and Elijah all die, that doesn't happen here. Instead, Seraphina (one of my other oc's; you can find her with my tvd muses) takes Klaus' place. [verse; main]

Past Verse; This could be at any point over the thousand years that Erik has been alive, the only time he wasn't with Klaus was in the 50s when they got into a disagreement that led to Erik leaving for a few years. [verse; rewind time]

Canon Verse; In this the events of season 5 do happen and Erik is learning how to deal with the loss of not only Hayley and Elijah, but Klaus as well. [verse; how do i say goodbye]

Squire Tangle Head Canons

1: In an age before equality, Men had a free pass yet if a woman wished to take up a blade and stand as a warrior. She would be ridiculed or even ostracized. Because of this Tangle hides her gender behind her armor, and masquerades as male, despite disliking the idea of lying. She knows they would have shunned her or laughed otherwise. So she uses the name " Tangle " To hide the truth.

2: She fled her home of Spiral Hill, after her Uncle informed her she would be married in the following spring. Taking up her mother's spear, and some old armor she found in a chest. She fled her home to escape what she saw as chains. She would be free even if she could never go back home again.

3: Born Angela Hart, she comes from a small village called Spiral Hill, its far and out of the way and beyond recognition by most. Her family is of Welsh decent and you can sometimes catch her accent creep through despite her attempts to hide it.

4: Her weapon of choice is a spear, a weapon once wielded by her mother before she settled down. Her mother always claimed it had a special power, yet it always seemed to be a rusty old spear to Angela. It has a name, though she can't quite read it, do to all the rust though it has never broken despite all the punishment.

5: She is the Squire to Sir Percival, and travels with her where ever she goes. As Percival's Squire she is under the direct tutelage of Percival though all the nights lend a hand training her. Additionally Lamorak is often seen sparring with her, and the two are seen often enough sharing a drink as Tangle eagerly listens to his stories.

6: She dislikes Lancelot do to his rude mannerisms, and how he dismisses her at ever turn. He constantly tells her to Go Home, or that she's not good enough to be a Knight. She take sit hard and has developed a anger toward him---though she just wants to best him ONCE to shut him up! She still respects him, and follows his orders without question.

7: She has always had a fondness for other Women and finds them attractive like one might a man. But having grown up in a village where such thoughts were considered Sinful, she hides her feelings and, buries her frustration in a desire for battle.

8: She is good friends with Lady Bijou, a Noble in King Arthur's Court, Angela saved her from certain death by bandits on the road before she was a knight. Of not for her the good Lady would likely have perished or worse, and she repays that kindness as best she can and the two have become close since. She would go on to sponsor tangle for Knighthood for her heroic deed, despite backlash from her fellow nobles.

9: Tangle has formed a friendship with a local Thief named Robin, While she tries hard to get Robin to give up her life of crime. They have on many occasions shared a drink, or even faced an enemy or two together. Tangle thinks Robin has a good heart, even if she doesn't agree with her methods. She also might have a bit of a crush on her, but she is to ashamed of the emotions to ever mention it to anyone!

10: Angela is claustrophobic to the point of sheer Panic! She doesn't like to admit it and only Percival knows the truth of it. But she sees it as a weakness and is always trying to overcome yet it paralyzes her and reduces her to tears.
