Listen, I’m not proud of it, but yesterday there was a video of the Wikipedia page for CBT (NOT Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, the other one) vocoded to the US National Anthem and I laughed so hard I cried.

Do you have kids?

No. I’d like to eventually someday, but I’d also be fine if it never ends up happening for me.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I use it sometimes, but I’m way less defensive than I was as a teenager.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

How they’re acting. I’m not very good at putting names to faces, but I wish I was!

Speed-reading? I have many good qualities, but they’re not really the kind of talents that would be fun to show off at a party— unless we’re having a trivia night, and then I do pretty well in everything except the sports category. I can do decent impressions. Many people say that, but I actually can.

Reading, writing, editing, cooking, hiking, tabletop rpgs, being silly on tumblr and discord. I try to have a balance of many different things!

No— my apartment is too small right now.

What sports do you play/have you played?

I am not a sporty person, but I did small-circle jujitsu for a year and a half before I moved, and I loved it! I would like to find another dojo, but I also can’t really commit to anything right now. I was forced to do Scottish Highland dance for a few years as a child, which I was not particularly good at. I also was involved in shooting sports through 4-H for over a decade, first as a safety thing, then branching out into other disciplines.

What movies do you adore? This is hard! The Passenger, Peep Tv Show, Talk to Me, Any Alan Clarke film, Let the Right One In, Gonin, Scream, Dinner in America, Blindspotting, Swallowtail, Summer Vacation 1999, I saw the tv glow, Cure, etc. I watched hunger (2008) and all of us strangers recently. Those were great.

I found out abt this one through interviews with Lukas Dhonte (who directed Close (2022) one of my favorite movies I've watched all year!). He mentions this book a lot as his main inspiration in constructing the character dynamics in the film. its heavy academic texts but I'm quite liking it!

I Would Prefer Not To: Essential Stories by Herman Melville

its a pretty edition of melville. need i say more? I do need to also write an essay on benito cereno lol

last show: Just binged the latest season of black mirror! it was mostly good fun, but honestly in generally felt pretty toothless? only one of the episodes out of the 5 really struck me, the way that the best BM eps do.

current obsession: berserk!!! i binged the manga in the span of a single day a few weeks ago n boy did my brain need that mental break. slowly working thru the 1997 series n really enjoying it too:>

The first character I first fell in love with: David & Dave. They’ve got really nice voices. (Sorry, Tom.) The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Adam the InterviewBot, probably? He’s my clunky metal boy, and I’m ever so proud of him.  The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Huh, Kallo, maybe? The character I love that everyone else hates: Dunno. Who did the fandom hate, again?  The character I used to love but don’t any longer: N/A. I’m still 110% David & Dave trash. I’m not even sorry.  The character I would totally smooch: Okay, listen. First of all, you simply can’t use such language in David’s presence. Secondly, as David would definitely murder me if I was foolish enough to attempt anything of the sort - well, there’s always Dave. I’m told he’s got really nice hair.  The character I’d want to be like: Hmm. I’d say either Gertrude, or Emma.  The character I’d slap: Oh, Robert Swinton, hands down. Good thinking of *someone* to ‘take care of things’, as it is.  A pairing that I love: ...do I really have to spell it out? (It’s David/Dave, obviously. I mean, duh.) A pairing that I despise: I wouldn’t say I despise it, but I do tend to wilfully ignore Katie/Dave for fanfiction writing purposes.

concerning the lozer fics, I go into pretty deep detail for hope lost on yesterdays in this post, but here are some fun things about where we are on the ladder:

The title was kinda a reference to Hickey’s line, but more evocative of the ladder as a symbol of hierarchy as well as the imagery of ascension/descension, which I think is the same symbolism the showrunners were going for when they named that episode “The Ladder”

Really kicking myself after the fact that I didn’t include some interactions during the night Tuunbaq was on Terror’s deck. I realized later upon rewatching “First Shot A Winner Lads” that Tozer and Little are both very present in that scene.

Introvert!Little and Extrovert!Tozer is what keeps their ship dynamic going. Plus, Tozer blatantly being the one to approach Little and initiate conversations is cute to me.

I firmly stand by my belief that Edward Little is a tactile person, and because of his rank and his taciturn nature, that man is very touch-starved, so Tozer approaching him and breaking that barrier was like finding an oasis in the desert for Little.

I also have to chuckle that their first conversation is Tozer asking him if he’s picked a costume, because I’m sure in Little’s mind (post Fitzjames asking the same damn thing), he doesn’t need more reminders for how much he’s dreading Carnivale.

1. What was your first fic and could you stand to reread it today:

The very first thing i ever wrote was a fic called futile, for the kotor fandom. i didn’t even post this on ff.net, this was a specialty kotor fansite that hosted fic and art about the series, and it was a pretty cool community. i got some of the best concrit i’ve ever received on that fic – the person writing it did not hold back and laid out methodically everything that i did wrong, and what needed to be better – and let me figure out HOW to make it better for myself. it was invaluable. i mean i cried about it at first but once i put it into perspective it was an incredible asset. rereading that fic now would probably be just as instructive.

2. What’s your most recent fic and how far do you think you’ve come?

Recent fics are a three-for! since i’m literally bouncing around 3 word drafts like a squirrel on speed. 

We got Appassionato – joplittle indulgent fluff, survival au angst/romance/smut overload

Many Returns is something I just started, a 4 part series about joplittle birthdays on the terror

then the mAIN EVENT – THE (REDACTED TITLE) LONGFIC. OUTLINE IS 20 CHAPTERS AND IT COULD BE MORE

as for how i’ve come, i think a pretty decent amount. i love nothing more than to improve, than to get closer to making the abstract explicit, so that means lots of study, lots of nitpicking. honest conversations with editor brain. an idea has no form, but a story is universal. alone in your head you can amuse yourself with your imaginings, but once you put it to words, it’s something you can share.
