“Time Out”
‱ Mier’s Unique Magic allows him to trap someone inside a small object; such as a mirror, snow globe, or picture frame
‱ He can only trap up to five people at once before he starts to struggle to keep them inside
‱ The size of the object determines the amount of people that can be trapped inside it
‱ In order to trap someone, they have to be near the object in question, and Mier has to touch the person he is going to trap

𝕋𝕣𝕚𝕧𝕚𝕒
-Mier is the dorm leader of the Beldamatrix dorm- founded by the eccentricity of the Beldam
-Mier possess a talent in all forms of doll making, however he is particularly talented with sewn dolls. He makes these dolls as gifts for anyone who visits the dorm; making the doll very detailed in their likeness
-He began making dolls when was young, often feeling quite lonely in childhood
-Mier has a tight expectation of perfection. No hair out of place, no bad attitude, all perfect grades. However, this expectation is only extended to himself; he holds no such expectations of any of his dorm members
-He is often jokingly called the dorm’s ’Mother’ because of his slightly overbearing but ultimately caring attitude towards his dorm members

Oviedo, Spain (No. 3)
The University of Oviedo (Spanish: Universidad de Oviedo, Asturian: Universidå d'Uviéu) is a public university in Asturias (Spain). It is the only university in the region. It has three campus and research centres, located in Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres.
The University of Oviedo was established under the terms and conditions of the will of Archbishop Fernando de ValdĂ©s Salas (1483–1568), who was the General Inquisitor under Philip II of Spain, and funded by his estate. In 1574 Pope Gregory XIII granted the papal bull to create the university and in 1604 Philip III issued its charter. It first opened for the teaching of classes on September 21, 1608.
The ancient university had three faculties: the Faculty of Arts, which every student had to graduate from in order to continue his training in one of the other; and the Faculties of Theology and Law, sometimes known as the higher faculties.
After the French invasion of Spain the Historical Building of the university was occupied by invading troops and lectures were suspended until the War ended in 1812.
During the 19th century, a group of liberal professors tried to bring the university closer to the working class with the Extensión Universitaria (a popular education programme sponsored by the institution). However, this goal was not fully achieved, and on October 13, 1934, during the Socialist-led miners revolt in Asturias, strikers set fire to the university (including its Library and the Art Gallery) because it was seen as a bourgeois symbol. It was rebuilt after the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939).
The number of faculties has multiplied in modern university, both through subdivisions of the traditional four faculties, and through the absorption of academic disciplines which have developed within originally vocational schools, in areas such as engineering or nursing.
Nowadays, the university has 31 faculties and professional schools, offering degrees and diplomas in over 150 fields of study.

My WIPs
â†Ș Introducing: Mier School of the Arts. [8k of 70k]
❝ ‘What none of you seem to realize is: if we don’t have this school we have nothing. We don’t have each other, we don’t live out our dreams, and if MSA goes, then we become nothing. Raven, do you really want to go back to sulking around public school? Dal, could you imagine how smug your parents would be? And what about you, Dylan? Can you give up your one chance to become somebody?’ Ace’s words stared them in the face, sobering and unrelentingly true; if they couldn’t pull this off, their lives at MSA, their lives period, were through.❞  — an excerpt from MSA.
â†Ș Synopsis (work in progress)
Mier School of the Arts had once been the pride and joy of the Holt family. Founded in 1976 by Carolyn and Andrew Holt, Mier School of the Arts was the main attraction for the small coastal town of Mier, Washington. A prestigious academy, MSA was founded for the purpose of providing the best education for the gifted students in the surrounding area, and even for out-of-state transfer students. Eventually, the grandson of Carolyn and Andrew Holt, Elijah Holt, assumes the role of director and is left to shoulder the burden of past irresponsibility.
After the untimely death of Director Holt’s younger brother, Mier School of the Arts is in jeopardy. Funds are lacking, and Director Holt is questioning his passion for the arts. Cue Raven Lee, and her not-so-voluntary admittance to MSA. Through a series of unexpected relationships, peculiar learning experiences, and the growing bond of nine friends, Raven and her new-found companions must save MSA, as well as the students relying on it for their future.
â†Ș Characters
🌠 Raven- Raven is sent to MSA after getting into a bit of a ‘mishap’ with the law. A mural artist, Raven is admitted into the art department after her father pulls some strings with his many connections. While she’s at MSA, her family is moving across the country for her mother’s temporary new job.
ی female, 17, black hair, dark brown eyes
🌠 Ace- According to himself, his name is Ace because he’s good at everything. Ace is currently enrolled in four different departments at MSA: art, photography, acting, and music. He’s outgoing, goofy, and obsessed with music production. Prides himself in being Raven’s tour guide at MSA.
ی male, 17, dark brown hair, brown eyes
🌠 Leia- Star dancer of MSA. She is a lover of ballroom and freestyle dance, but forced to do ballet because of her ‘natural talent’. Her parents are pushy, and she despises them for it. She can be a bit snippy at times, but only because no one ever cares to ask about her instead of her dancing.
ی female, 16, brown hair, gray eyes
🌠 Colton- He’s in the photography department. Colton can be uptight at times, but his personality isn’t too unbearable as long as he’s around his girlfriend, Grayson. He spends a lot of time doing wildlife photography, and knows many facts about animals because his father is a zoologist. Dreams of shooting for a big company like National Geographic.
ی male, 18, blond hair, brown eyes
🌠 Grayson- Also in the photography department, Grayson is the self-proclaimed ‘candid photographer’ for the group. She is extremely laid back and likable. Her favorite shots are candid portraits, and action shots of the performances. She puts orchestrates slideshows for fundraisers and other events at MSA.
ی female, 18, mousy brown hair, blue-green eyes
🌠 Dallas- Dallas is the best friend of Ace. Despite their somewhat conflicting personalities, the two of them get along well and cause a lot of trouble around MSA, though they never get caught. Dallas is in the music department. Though he is a little bit of a mess, Dallas brings charm to the group, while Ace works as the glue that holds them all together.
ی male, 18, very light blond hair, nearly-black eyes
🌠 Corryn- Corryn is in the theater department. She is both a playwright and an amazing actress. She also sometimes works backstage and does directing for some of the plays, but for the most part she enjoys being in the center of things. Sometimes she can let people walk all over her, but has her friends there to watch her back and help her learn to defend herself.
ی female, 15, golden brown hair, brown eyes
🌠 Ross- Ross is one of the two living younger brothers of Director Holt. His passion lies in sculpting. He’s extremely laidback, and handles his grief very well. He’s popular around MSA for being likable and helpful, as well as being the Director’s younger sibling. He’s the twin of Dylan.
ی male, 17, brown hair, hazel eyes
🌠 Dylan- Dylan is in the theater department. He’s an all around good kid, enjoys sports as well as acting, but is overwhelmed by everything going on in his life. The lack of funds as well as the recent death of his brother has been trying for him. To lose his brother and then MSA directly after would crush him.
ی male, 17, brown hair, hazel eyes
🌠 Director Holt- Elijah Holt is the director of MSA. He is the older brother of Jack, Dylan, and Ross Holt. He is unsure if continuing his work at MSA is worth it after Jack is killed in a car crash, and so refuses to organize a fundraiser in order to keep the school afloat. At thirty years old, he is the legal guardian of the twins after his parents irresponsible actions while managing the school and parenting. Now, in his devastation from the loss of eighteen year old Jack, he is lost and unable to fathom why he should continue to live out his dreams when his brother cannot.
ی male, 30, brown hair, brown eyes
🌠 Rhea- Rhea is the younger sister of Raven. At thirteen years old, she has the attitude and mannerisms of a forty year old woman. She’s extremely overprotective and opinionated. She has an undiscovered talent for music, but refuses to attend MSA because she believes its a ‘rich kids’ school for ‘spoiled brats and band geeks’.
ی female, 13, black hair, brown eyes
â†Ș Notes

Tuition Of California Colleges To Stay The Same Despite Online Instruction
By Grace Fan, Pomona College, Class of 2023
July 8, 2020
Tumblr media
The Golden state has always been known for its exemplary educational institutions, boasting some of the best colleges and universities in the country and worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of students are enrolled within the ten University of California campuses, and more even are enrolled in the California State University System. There are also countless private universities and liberal arts colleges as well. As COVID-19 reaches new heights in number of cases,Californian colleges have begun releasing their plans for the fall. The Cal States(California State Universities)were one of the first campuses to announce their fall 2020 plans, releasing a statement in early May. Their decision to offer the overwhelming majority of classes online for all 23 campuses was made by the chancellor of the schools, Tim White.i  Contrastingly, the University of California system president Janet Napolitano decided to let individual UC campuses make their own plans.ii
Most UC schools have announced plans to offer classes online in the fall, some science labs and discussion seminars being the exception, though the degree of precaution varies between schools. University of California Berkeley, arguably the school with the most relaxed policies regarding fall plans, is going to house 6,500 out of their 30,000 undergraduate students and pursue the hybrid plan (having some online classes and some in-person classes). Their approach to the coming semester may be considered less intense than the rest of the UC’s due to its location and infrastructure. Northern California seems to be doing a lot better than Southern California, in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases. And though University of California Davis is further up north, Berkeley does seem to have greater resources and infrastructure to offer hybrid courses and guarantee the health of its students.
California is also home to a plethora of liberal arts schools as well, notably the Claremont Colleges. The Claremont Colleges are a neighboring group of 5 colleges and 2 graduate schools. Students can take classes at any of the colleges and can enjoy many of each college’s resources. Though the colleges have many similar characteristics, each is its own institution and has its own administration, registrar, faculty, and president. Claremont Mckenna and Harvey Mudd colleges have both released their fall plans, later to be confirmed in July. Due to the smaller nature of the school, the administration is planning for 33% of classes to be held online, while another 33% will be hybrid, and the remaining 33% primarily in-person but also accessible online.iii
However, contrasting to Claremont Mckenna, Harvey Mudd college has claimed that 70% of their classes will be held online. Moreover, Mudd has taken extra precautions by restricting its students from taking classes from other colleges. iv The other colleges-Pomona, Pitzer, and Scripps have yet to release their decision. What about bigger private universities? USC announcedJuly1st that it would be reversing its earlier decision to hold hybrid classes, and instead will be moving towards mainly online classes as well, around 80%-90%. v The New USC decision reflects the growing number of cases in the SoCal area and mirrors UCLA’s decision, which makes sense considering they are just across the hill from each other. And even though one would think that private institutions like USC would have more resources to handle the virus, it seems that COVID-19 does not discriminate against schools. Yet despite all these schools committing to another remote-online platform for the coming school semester/quarter, most colleges have decided to freeze, or in some cases even hike up, their tuition.
The major complaint about the tuition that students have to pay for online school is obvious-why do they have to pay the college the same amount of money for instruction that pales in comparison to the in-person experience. In this age of growing, unpayable student debt, as well as inflation and general increase in university tuition, parents of students and independents are already having a very hard time keeping up with the ridiculous financial burden that comes with a higher education. And that’s not even addressing the decreased value that a college degree holds. In fact, in an editorial written in 2008, it seems that “For decades, the typical college graduate's wage rose well above inflation. But no longer. In the economic expansion that began in 2001 and now appears to be ending, the inflation-adjusted wages of the majority of U.S. workers didn't grow, even among those who went to college.” vi And in the year 2020, it seems that this phenomenon is still very much an accurate depiction of the job market for college graduates. So, in addition to having to pay instrumentally more for a “requirement” for a higher(ish) paying job, students must also pay for an education conducted through Zoom. The problem of increasing tuition for students has been happening for years now.
Students have sued their university for increasing tuition after signing tuition agreements. vii Especially considering that colleges sent students back amidst the Coronavirus outbreak in March, students are upset that they paid the same tuition for online classes for the remaining of spring semester. viii Now that fall online seems to be the reality for California students, many are thinking about taking a gap year or semester. In the wake of Governor Newsom’s new regulations-shutting down bars, indoor restaurants, other “non-essential” businesses and imposing stricter regulations, it would make sense that colleges have begun reassessing their approaches towards the upcoming school year. Considering that many colleges have never had to deal with having to organize their school year because of a global pandemic-there is really no pre-existing structure in which they can base their decisions on. Only time will tell how the virus fares in the coming months, and all students can do is wait.

A 2017 Bennington Alumni Reading List!
Tumblr media
As 2017 wraps up, we’re looking towards a new year full of great books! Here’s a year-in-review of some of the new releases of 2017 by or about Bennington alumni.
- Lydia ’19
Tumblr media
From Rockaway (re-release) and Swell by Jill Eisenstadt ’85
"With tremendous tenderness, Eisenstadt captures the traumatized Rockaway of the early 2000s in swirling Technicolor....A whimsical portrait of a still-raw community." --Kirkus Reviews
Honeysuckle Drift by Virginia Johnson, MFA ’12
“The scent of honeysuckle that pervades Honeysuckle Drift is sweet in the in the way things are just before they rot. The story that unfolds for the young, well-meaning protagonist, Ellen, will be both a tragedy and a chance to overcome it. In this fine debut novel Virginia Johnson beautifully evokes the place, the era, and the terrible ties between parents and children, ties that, while invisible, can strangle as well as bind.”—Jim Krusoe, author of The Sleep Garden
Botticelli's Muse by Dorah Blume (Deborah Bluestein ’65)
“Blume’s interpretation of master painter Sandro Botticelli is at once a florid love story and a chilling political drama. Sensuous and provocative as well as mysterious, the novel follows Sandro’s troubled relationship with Florence’s ruling Medici family.” --Publisher’s Weekly
Shock Wave by Florian Louisoder ’82
“Shock Wave took me immediately with it's premise because I love time travel related stories...It's a great journey for the imagination to see how one event can alter the future in so many "shocking "ways. Louisoder has an uncanny knack for fleshing out his characters and making them live and breathe on the page. I really look forward to the next in the series.” --Amazon Customer Review
The Other Island: Ben’s Story by Barbara Kent Lawrence ’65
“The Other Island is as much a reflection and refraction of her first novel as it is a sequel. Islands of Time traced the love affair between Becky Granger, a summer visitor to Mount Desert Island, and Ben Bunker, a year-round resident of Little Cranberry Island — from Becky's point of view. In The Other Island, Lawrence gives voice to Ben's side of the romance: "She's told you her story," he states at the novel's start. "Now I'll tell you mine. They are wound up in me like the way I was in her from the moment I met her."” --The Penobscot Bay Pilot
Tumblr media
Sally’s Genius by Brooks Clark, a biography about pioneering educator Sally Smith ’50
“In 1967 Sally Smith needed a school for her son Gary, who suffered from dyslexia, among other learning disabilities. Finding none, she founded one, the Lab School of Washington. In the process, she developed the Academic Club Methodology, by which children with learning disabilities can be engaged and inspired in school, where they had previously suffered only frustration and defeat. While directing the Lab School, Smith taught her system and ran the master's program in special education at American University for 32 years, inspiring a new generation of teachers to pioneer innovations in education.  Smith also wrote books, starting with "No Easy Answers" in the late 70s and in various editions thereafter, that serve as the definitive works in the special education field. Smith was driven, creative, unique, and unforgettable.”--Lulu.com
How Do I Explain This to my Kids? by Ava Siegler ’59
“Child psychologist Dr. Ava Siegler brings together stories by authors and writers...about the conversations they are having with their children in the current political climate...as well as how to raise them to be engaged citizens.” --Bill Moyers & Company
Positive Art Therapy Theory and Practice: Integrating Positive Psychology with Art Therapy co-authored by Gioia Chilton ’89
"Wilkinson & Chilton are synonymous with positive art therapy – I am excited about this book and its potential to revolutionize art therapy theory and practice! It’s a wonderful and much needed contribution to the literature, promoting strengths-based and relational approaches to art therapy practice grounded in positive psychology.”-- Donna Betts, PhD, ATR-BC, president, American Art Therapy Association, associate professor, Art Therapy Program, George Washington University
Heart Smart for Women by Jennifer Mieres ’82
“A terrific, potentially life-saving book that’s a must read for all black and Latina women.” --Jane Chesnutt, Editor-in-Chief, Woman’s Day
Thinking with the Dancing Brain by Rima Faber ’65
“a must read book for educators, artists, and scientists. This gem is revolutionary in its structure. Current brain research and valuable educational theories are interspersed in every chapter with simple movement explorations that make the research understandable and the theories memorable. The book proves once and for all that the body and brain work as one unit and that thought cannot take place without movement.” --Anne Green Gilbert, founding Director of Creative Dance Center
Tumblr media
Blue Money by Janet Capron ’69
“Capron writes with the fearless, experiential drive of a Beat poet
This intense, electrifying memoir explores a life of prostitution in 1970s New York City.” --Shelf Awareness
Going to Wings by Sandra Worsham ’06
“Sandra Worsham’s humor, clear-eyed honesty stitch this amazing quilt of meaning and experience together in a wonderful way.” --Kirkus Reviews
I’m the One Who Got Away by Andrea Jarrell, MFA ’01
"Though the settings of Jarrell’s stories range from Camden, Maine, to Italy and Los Angeles, the author’s small-town Americana tone is reminiscent of Joyce Carol Oates. The work’s lasting message is that love, like Jarrell’s prose, is both painful and beautiful. A stunning series of recollections with a feminist slant." ―Kirkus Reviews STARRED REVIEW
Tumblr media
Maya Healers by Fran Antmann ’69
“Fran Antmann’s work in Maya Healers, years in the making, is imbued with the depth and texture only great photography can achieve; where the images transcend being mere documents but reach great art. Many of the images, especially of the people in their daily lives, are transcendent and absolutely gorgeous, revealing an empathy and visual perception that is timeless.” --Ed Kashi, international prize-winning photojournalist
Sign of the Apocalypse: Ruminations and Wit from an American Roadside Prophet by John Getchell ’86
“Friends, neighbors, and passersby from all over the country can’t fail to miss “The Sign’s" constantly changing humor and insight. On occasion, The Sign of the Apocalypse (SOTA) traffics in the earnest, but at its heart is rooted in a deep-seated desire to express the sarcastic and snort-worthy. This, and a love of haiku, pizza, Latin, double entendre, and the worst puns ever crafted.” --Amazon
We and She, You and Then, You Again by Leah Tieger ’03
“Leah Tieger examines the human condition with a stark elegance and passion of language that allows us to inhabit the ragged husks of bodies—of seeds—and gives us hope even in our emptiness. Like a gentle farmer, she removes our desiccated husks and listens as we long for more than blankets, for shelter from the sun. She writes the necessary poems of minutia, of lovers forcing approximate passions, of unraveling sweaters hanging in silent closets. She watches the waiting parts in us and reveals them, allowing the small spaces of our lives to shine through, into insightful—and honest—existence.”-- Josh Gaines
Bloodline by Radha Marcum ’96
“Congratulations to Radha Marcum. Her debut poetry collection, Bloodline...delves into the difficult family history of the work of Marcum's grandfather on the Manhattan Project, building the first atomic bombs in Los Alamos, New Mexico, during World War II—and how that both brave and heavy legacy has affected the women in her family, both then and now.”  --WinningWriters.com, Subscriber News July 2017
The Myrtlewood Cookbook: Pacific Northwest Home Cooking by Andrew Barton ’09
"This cookbook is unabashedly PNW to its core, from the cutting boards carved from native Myrtlewood trees to the mushrooms that pop up in soup, risotto, and pizza. Unlike most cookbooks, Barton’s recipes read more like an actual book; each dish spans multiple pages with paragraphs in the place of ordered steps. Barton’s conversational tone is certainly homey, as is the food itself." -- Seattle Met

exercise & level of fitness: early morning runs & gym sessions twice a week -- three times if she has the chance. but it’s pretty basic stuff, just enough to stay in shape
how’s their posture ( or lack thereof )? : really straight, proper posture bc her mom was big on making sure jinho looked and acted like a lady
typical style of dress:  Jinho definitely dresses to impress, though more out of obligation than actual want most days. Her usual style is neat, trendy, and feminine – typically consisting of dresses, blouses, and heels of some sort – while her preferred style is much more laid back, consisting of a baggy shirt/sweater, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. since living on her own, she’s started to dress more casually like she prefers.
body modifications: aside from having her ears pierced, none
body language and mannerisms
how does your muse walk?
back straight, eyes focused either on the ground in front of her or off in the distance; her steps are usually unhurried unless she's short on time. even when she knows where she’s going, jinho tends to look as if she’s aimlessly wandering.
how does your muse talk?
a soft tone is most common at a medium pace, though when she’s excited or heated, her speech becomes sharper, clearer, and faster. unless she knows for a fact that she’s older than you or you two are good friends, she’ll always use polite speech.
what accent/dialect does your muse talk with?
as jinho has lived in seoul her entire life, she speaks with a seoul accent/dialect ( also known as the gyeonggi dialect ) .
how high (or low) is the tone of their voice? are they loud or quiet?
i’d consider jinho’s voice to be medium high maybe? it’s not the highest voice you’ve heard, but not the lowest by far. she usually speaks loud enough to be heard but sometimes falls back into the old habit of speaking too quietly for most to hear.
what is their laugh like?
louder than you’d expect!! a lot of the time she does the whole silent, breathy laughter thing, but if you really get her going, her laugh is loud and high-pitched.
how does your muse typically smell?
sweet!! sometimes like dessert or sometimes a sweet, floral smell -- it usually depends on the time of year and her mood. sweet, dessert scents are usually reserved for the colder seasons while floral scents are used during the warmer months. and if she’s not wearing perfume, then she likely smells like her clothes detergent. or popcorn if you catch her after work.
what kind of air do they carry? are they intimidating?
jinho doesn’t think she comes off intimidating, but she does end up appearing standoffish to those who aren’t familiar with her from time to time; she’s often in her own world and comfortable in silence, so those who don’t know her mistake that for a reluctance to socialize or disinterest. while there’s definitely a reluctance because of her introverted tendencies, she is interested!! jinho loves meeting new people tbh. as for the air she carries -- i’d imagine she just kinda?? blends in the background most of the time. like she just sort of has this presence that feels like it’s always been there and always will be, and if you’re not paying attention, you won’t notice it’s even gone.
psychology
what makes your muse happiest?
spending time with jinyeong, making him smile and knowing that he’s safe and happy. the same goes for her friends. being surrounded by pretty scenery and having the opportunity to capture it by hand. watching others admire and get lost in a piece of art, be it her own or another’s. baby animals -- kittens, puppies, newborn seahorses -- and animals in general. finally finishing something that she’s worked her hardest to accomplish.
what upsets them the most?
her parents’ inconsiderate and irresponsible choices. finding out she’s been lied to. disappointing someone. seeing jinyeong or anyone close to her upset. people making assumptions and passing judgments on her when they don’t know the whole story.
does your muse have any quirks?
frowns when deep in thought, clicks her pen repeatedly when thinking or reading through material, won’t step foot in a place that’s considered haunted ( she’s very somewhat superstitious ) , purposely gets lost just to see where one path leads, always ruffles jinyeong’s hair at least once when she sees him, wrings her hands and bounces her leg when nervous
what are their hobbies? how frequent do/can they do them?
baking!! and maybe cooking in general now that she’s the one providing her meals. she’d consider photography a hobby as well, and while she has plenty of opportunities to practice her cooking abilities, she doesn’t always have enough free time to take photos like she wants since she doesn’t often have her camera on her. so!! she usually picks a day here or there to go out and snap photos.
do they have any guilty pleasures?
probably anime and manga bc her mother kind of stuck her nose up at that stuff and made jinho feel like it wasn’t exactly okay to indulge.
is your muse an extrovert? an introvert? neither?
originally i figured jinho was an introvert, but recently i’ve felt that she leans more in the middle -- she’s an ambivert!
do they have high or low self-esteem? what about confidence?
she probably has average self-esteem and confidence most of the time, but it drops whenever she starts thinking about her weight. jinho was a chubby child as well as shy, so she had to deal with some teasing and bullying when she was younger; it didn’t really help that her mother was more concerned with making sure jinho slimmed down rather than making sure her daughter felt good about her own body. that being said, she’s very confident in her character and her work -- being 100% confident and satisfied with her appearance just isn’t gonna happen at the moment.
are they easily stressed? how do they respond to stress?
jinho is a big ol’ worry wart, so she probably gets stressed out easily. when she’s feeling stressed out, she usually just needs to be alone and do her own thing or be around someone she finds comfort in being around -- like jinyeong and close friends. but if the situation doesn’t allow either of those things, jinho is going to bear and grin it and try really hard not to get snappy.
what is your muses worst fear?
dying alone : ) no but really, she might just be a tad afraid that she’ll always get in the way of herself falling in love. also!! dying before she’s really LIVED.
what is your muses biggest dream?
publishing her own manhwa!!
is your muse an early riser? a night owl?
both bc sleep is for the weak actually jinho is both bc she’s recently had a lot of trouble going to sleep for extended periods of time
how intelligent is your muse? do they acknowledge it?
pretty intelligent but she doesn’t really think about it. she views herself as a hard worker and credits that for her academic accomplishments.
what is their sense of humour like?
she’s got a good sense of humor -- you can thank her uncle jinho for that. you wouldn’t expect it from her, but jinho’s secretly a pun-loving meme of a girl. witty humor!! is probably her favorite tho
relationship tendencies
what’s their sexual orientation? what about romantic?
this bean is heterosexual and hetero-romantic
are they currently in any sexual or romantic relationships?
nope!!
what is their experience with relationships?
she’s dated a few guys, but jinho usually ends things the moment she feels things aren’t going to work out, or if she believes she feels more strongly for her boyfriend than he does for her. so she definitely has some experience with the social and emotional aspect of dating; however, she’s pretty inexperienced when it comes to physical intimacy bc like i mentioned here, it scares her a little.
how does your muse view the idea of friends with benefits? have they ever had one, or would they ever?
the friends with benefits deal seems like a horrible idea to her bc she really can’t see how friends can expect to have that sort of arrangement and expect?? to not?? catch feelings??? and then one or both parties end up hurt and she’s just not down for that :// she’s never had one and never will.
sex, is it important to your muse?
jinho definitely views sex as a huge milestone, but it isn’t something that’s going to be a deal breaker for her. like if her bf says, “ actually i wanna wait till marriage, ” jinho will be perfectly okay with that and can actually appreciate the choice bc for her, sex is an act of love and commitment. that being said, she’s going to be a big bundle of nerves the first time she does it because it is such a big deal in her eyes, so it’d help if her loved one understands that and realizes the significance of jinho’s choice to do it with him.
overall, tho, jinho is more about the emotional connection in a relationship than the physical, so while she’ll enjoy having sex with her guy, it won’t be a huge deal if they don’t do it often. she’s more likely to go with the flow and adapt to her partner’s libido than to really act on her own.
what are their biggest turn on and turn offs?
big strong hands!!! especially if they’re grabbing and holding her!! praise and compliments bc she’s a self-conscious babe who needs reassurance (àč‘♥3♡àč‘) possessiveness but mostly during the act, i think? and in general she likes it when the guy is dominant, but!! she also lives to please, so once jinho gets the hang of things, it’ll be enough just knowing she’s the one turning her bf into a mess ( ͥ° ͜ʖ ͥ°) as for turn offs, she’s probably going to dislike it if her bf gets a lil too rough, but she doesn’t always need to be treated like porcelain, either. i think she’ll be kinda?? open to trying new things if her partner wants to, but the important thing is not SPRINGING it on her in the moment. bring it up beforehand so jinho has time to mentally prepare herself ( and research bc she’s definitely going to do that ) . she wants to make her bf happy, but she also needs to feel comfortable.
does your muse find it easy to make friends?
yes and no -- it’s easy for her to befriend someone and get on friendly terms, but it can be a bit hard for jinho to initiate things on her own. it’s easier to make friends if she already has a mutual friend beside her in the process.
how important is friendship to them?
super!! important!! friends are the family members you choose -- jinho’s a strong believer in that.
quantity or quality of friends?
quality for sure bc there was a time that she had quantity over quality and she hated it sm
how important is family?
super freaking important. that’s what she was raised to believe and why she can’t bring herself to hurt her parents and tell the whole truth despite feeling hurt and betrayed by them. but like... she’d fight someone for jinyeong. she’d take a bullet for jinyeong. she’d die for jinyeong. don’t touch her baby brother ໒(  ◉ ◡ ◉  )à„
are they close to their family? why or why not ?
she’s super close with jinyeong, but her parents have royally screwed up their relationship, so they’re not even on speaking terms rn. my original intro post pretty much gives the short and sweet version of what’s happened.
headcanons
weak for gong yoo ever since goblin
he’s replaced lee jong suk as her homescreen wallpaper ♄(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)
probably really loves!! bittersweet endings ( happy endings are still the best tho )
90% of her jeans have stains on them from her paints and markers
i think?? she’s developed insomnia since moving away from her parents, but she honestly had some trouble going to sleep even before that
the bright side is you can text her at any hour of the day and she’ll probably be awake to answer : )
you can probably find jinho at conventions selling her artwork
she doesn’t like being touched without her permission!! but if u have permission she’s ready for full on cuddle mode okay
would love to learn how to dance!! but that is a secret desire that she may never act on
jinho is not only guilty of pronouncing meme as “meemee” but also guilty of pronouncing pepe as “peepee” at one point in her life
she loves mysteries!! and thrillers!! and horror in general if it has a nice backstory/plot!!
secretly a sass master okay don’t leave yourself open for assault

ASM donates Destination Science Camp proceeds to support research projects
Tumblr media
NATCHITOCHES – The American Society of Microbiology (ASM) chapter at Northwestern State University raised $3,000 by hosting the inaugural Destination Science Camp at the School of Biological and Physical Sciences.  The camp provided workshops in several fields of science such as animal behavior, ecology, anatomy and physiology, physics, microbiology, chemistry, and genetics for middle school students between the ages of 10 – 14.
The goal of the camp was to get middle school students excited about a career in science, said Dr. Christopher N. Lyles, ASM club sponsor and camp coordinator.
“Of all the workshops the favorites were definitely dissecting the sheep brain, blowing up candy and calculating the projectile motion of water balloons
..which more times than not hit other students/staff instead of the ‘mark,’” Lyles said. “The camp was a tremendous success.  We have phenomenal faculty within the School of Biological and Physical Sciences who donated their time this summer and put together an amazing experience for the attendees.  I would also like to thank the camp sponsors Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Southern Scripts, Natchitoches Area Jaycees and the United Methodist Men – FUMC Natchitoches for their support.”
Proceeds for the camp were presented to the NSU Foundation to build a new endowed professorship within the School of Biological and Physical Sciences. Funds from the professorship are used to support undergraduate research projects.
Destination Science will return Summer 2020.

Theater People
Morning ramblings before day 2: Whenever I meet people traveling, or even befriend people who travel, there is always a sense of "sameness" and community. It's as if all those obsessed with travel are kindred spirits. A special bond develops almost immediately and all parties feel safe among their "people." Trust me when I say that it is the same for "theater people." The people at this conference are like a bunch of my twin souls wandering about. I even met someone from New Zealand who immediately broke out into songs from, "Newsies" with me and asked/gave tips on how Best market my Middle School Drama program to Middle School boys. This particular person just happened to be a "traveler" too....so fun! Ok, so today I....meet the director of Newsies for a lesson on ensemble building, learn more about the art of acting through song, meet the star of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for a talk on inspiring comedic timing, listen to my favorite script development team (MTI Musical Theater International...I use them to buy most of the shows I do) talk about script development and announce their new shows, and even let us preview scenes from one of their new shows, meet Dara again for dinner, see, "Anastasia" a new musical on Broadway, have talk back with the cast, meet Chris Erickson?, and finally, meet a dear friend from Shanghai days, Andrea Miers. Pics coming! 💕

1L Gets Statutory Tattoo And It’s Awesome
Tumblr media
(image via Getty)
Normally, I warn 0Ls and 1Ls against picking their “practice area” before they know anything about the practice of law. Law school is not like college, you don’t “major” in anything. And it takes half a career to develop a true practice area specialty. You go to law school to be “a lawyer.” You graduate from law school trying to find “a job.” If you end up having a particular interest in one kind of field of law, that’s great. But your career is going to have a lot more to do with whether you end up working plaintiff’s side, or defense, or for the government, or with an appellate practice, or whatever. The army of lawyers working for Geico are filled with souls who said “I’m really interested in Constitutional Law” when they were applying for law school.
All that said, passion is good. Having an idea of what you want to do with your life is good. And I just can’t mock a 1L who is willing to literally tattoo that passion on her own body. As seen on Twitter:
I mean, homegirl even tattooed a mouse cursor hovering over the statute. How can I not love that? I know I’m supposed to be Mr. Cynical Internet Man, but getting a Stat Tat (let’s make that a thing) is endearing.
We reached out to Miers about her art. Here’s how she explained it:
I am currently a 1L at Santa Clara Law. Since I was a kid, I was always fascinated with the Internet because, being born in the 90s, I pretty much grew up with the beginnings of it. I discovered the Internet Archive and would spend long nights messing with the Wayback machine or downloading/reverse engineering retro games and viruses. I was your stereotypical Internet geek. Fast forward, I got a degree in computer science, and along the way discovered Santa Clara Law Prof. Eric Goldman’s Technology and Marketing blog which turned me on to the niche field of Internet Law. Before law school, I spent time reading and learning as much as possible about the field. I decided to go to law school to follow in Prof. Goldman’s footsteps and become the next Internet Law expert. As I said in my tweet, I aim to lead the next generation of Internet defenders.
Why the 230 tattoo?

With all the controversy regarding fake news, biased algorithms, sex trafficking, and targeted censorship, it’s easy for regulators to push an attractive message to amend or even repeal 230. Often, the message is that 230 was established to protect the big tech players, those of which we’ve been taught to fear and hate. But the real truth is that without 230, we’re actually opening the doors to more censorship, less creative content, more shuttering of web services, less free speech, more malicious botting, more fake news, more digital borders, and if anything, less small companies and more big tech. If we don’t allow Internet companies to innovate and moderate then we’re destined for a world with less choices and more trolls.
So the tattoo was a way for me to express my passion and commitment to this field but also to start a conversation. If you ask people my age about section 230, chances are they haven’t heard of it. I want people to ask me about my tattoo so that I can advocate for less emotional and more informed decision making about our Internet.
People on Twitter have already come at her over the seemingly inevitable reality that Republicans will eventually succeed in their efforts to repeal Section 230, and that she’s going to be walking around with a dead law on her wrist. She has a response for that:
Then it's a cool memory and talking point. I thought about that (or if it got all out repealed) but I'm a huge Internet history nerd so it's okay. The meaning behind it still remains.
— Jess Miers (@jess_miers) November 25, 2018
What can I say, I’m rooting for her. There’s a 90 percent chance that the crushing reality of trying to find employment with a Santa Clara law degree mangles her dreams and the only conversation she’s starting is about why she always wears a wristband to her client’s bail hearing
but I’m hoping for the other way. I’m hoping she gets good grades (Christ, she’s only a 1L, she hasn’t even taken her first set of finals yet) and her rare passion for this issue hooks her up with some kind of FCC job and thirty years from now President Faceooglezon the First is appointing her to write the Restatement of Internet Law codex.
She cares. If I was as real as I claim to be, I’d get the entire 15th Amendment tattooed over my black ass. She gets to win the internet for at least a day.
Elie Mystal is the Executive Editor of Above the Law and the Legal Editor for More Perfect. He can be reached @ElieNYC on Twitter, or at [email protected]. He will resist.

The Awkward Luncheon | 001
The clamor in the hallway was boisterous; and around their trio, calamity seemingly took hold. From the jocks wild whoops to the shrieks of gossiping primadonnas, the slender and crowded space was understandably uncomfortable. For three, complex individuals especially, this atmosphere consisted of only the most repulsive of teenage displays; the over-ripened belly of young, vociferous hormones.
While Samara Mier found this rumpus obnoxious and distasteful, one of her two dearest friends, Maura Tomory would beg to argue against her negativity in hopes of keeping them in line. Always eager to stay “out of trouble”, she’d rather have their party endure the annoying quell of the Math Wing just before lunch break than sneak off to enjoy a moment’s peace away from the redundant, adolescent mess.
“You’re not dragging me up to the roof again,” the blonde stated, lashes batting shut as her arms folded beneath the swell of her breasts in defiance. “Not after last time. Not after I had to suffer through one of Mr. Darling’s detentions.”
At this, the elder girl couldn’t help but smile and attempting to hide her amusement, cocked her head away from her two, obnoxious friends; though, only scarcely could she manage to hide the tilt of rosy lips from their insistent eyes. The pressing concern of their immediate exit now rode solely on her shoulders.
From the corner of her vision, Maura notice Samara snort behind her hand and it was all she could do to keep from stomping her foot in opposition. “It’s not funny, Sam.”
It had been funny, however. The memory of wiping down chalkboards and washing out chemistry equipment was respectably, a fond and amusing one. For hours, they’d made jokes about the old, perverted teacher and had taken advantage of their alone time; making fun out of something that should have been quite dull and tedious. But still, he had stated that he, “knew their secret”, and that it would be, “wise of them to keep away”, which Maura could only perceive as meaning that the sour, geezer would be prompt in checking the location more often.
Before, their impromptu sanction had been safe. None of the school’s staff had ever gotten curious enough to check for delinquents on the rooftop. After all, the set of stairs that let up was locked and off limit to students, making the venture of relative challenge. Of course, such a complication hadn’t stopped Pia from keeping their small group away. Trained in the art of lock-picking, she’d easily managed, time and time again to break through the elementary device that kept the rest of the student-population from wandering the flat, open roof.
“This place is horrid,” the gangly red-head complained, her hands pulling dramatically at her hair; an act of displaying her sheer disapproval, however silly and over-blown it was. “I mean, just look,” she started and lazily motioned down the hall at a scene Maura hadn’t yet noticed. “It’s like you’re forcing us to watch all of this garbage continue to rot in its own filth. And instead of just agreeing that maybe the roof would be better than this, I now feel compelled to watch that pipsqueak of a girl down there get pushed around by a douche-bag party of Sophomores.”
Turning her head now to face what Samara had been pointing to, Maura felt her lips turn in disgrace. Not too far away, two, awkwardly shaped boys stood over a girl much smaller and fragile than themselves. Their mouths were twisted maliciously as they spoke to her and though they made no physical move towards the petite brunette, Maura could sense their cruel intent as well as the stranger’s discomfort. Why nobody had rescued the girl from the distressing situation, the blonde couldn’t fathom. Even Samara, who had been watching for moments now, hadn’t felt compelled to step forward and speak up. Was it that nobody was brave enough to confront such mean-spirited people? Or was it that all of the eyes watching felt that aiding somebody so obviously weak would only be a futile effort? Small, pale hands fisting at her sides, Maura stepped forward and in response, Samara sighed.
Turning to her close friend, the red-head slapped the other’s paw, trying to coax her into acting quickly before their companion had a chance to make her move. The eldest girl had such an inflated sense of justice, it was often misguided, directed towards issues she couldn’t fix. In many attempts to fulfill her ideals, Maura would inadvertently render situations more convoluted than they’d been before her help. And though it was a beautiful sense of righteousness that fueled her friend’s actions, Samara knew the faults in her comrade’s angelic displays. Perhaps, she was just too passionate; nothing had ever swayed her from doing as she saw virtuous and fit.
This was no different. And by the way the blonde’s deep blues flashed with integrity and a moralistic sense of devotion, Samara knew that they were already in over their heads. If anybody could stop Maura from acting on her heart, it would be Pia; though the red-head knew well that when it came to Maura’s heart, there was no defying it. Their chances in avoiding this rectification of a stranger’s pride was unavoidable now that she’d stupidly gone and drawn attention to it.
It seemed as though they wouldn’t be heading to the roof after all.
“We can’t just let them get away with it,” the blonde stated, her tone low and warm with frisked excitement. “You two can go on without me,” she told them, though she knew they wouldn’t. And before she could let Samara croak out a, “stop”, or listen to anything that would only be interpreted as judgement from Pia, Maura hurried off to play martyr for some stranger they’d never before met.
Scoffing as their friend left their side, Samara rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth. Elbowing her counterpart gently, she teasingly said, “Think she’s only doing it because that pussy looks tight?” and snorted as she reared her head away, unable to watch the source of her passion slip off to protect somebody so obviously inept. Biting down on her tongue, Samara tried to choke down the gale it would take to play nice when Maura inevitably brought that pretty, helpless thing back with her.

“I was watching for a moment, trying to understand what it was exactly you two thought you were doing,” she started, grabbing hold of one of the boy’s arms and forcing him to turn. “But you were hurting this girl and I can’t stand by and let that happen.” Though her voice was still and calm there was ice about it, an edge to catch the attention of the bullies. “You truly picked a terrible day for this little display.” A smile snuck upon the blonde’s lips and content with their confused expressions she added, “Oh, my parents you see are great friends with the principle here,” she convincingly lied; an air of obvious confidence around the girl made it difficult to ignore her claims. “All that’s needed is a word from me, and you two will be expelled from this academy. Expelled before you even have notice enough to tell your mother and father that once again, their son has gone and disappointed them and that as parents, they’re failing terribly.”
As they backed slowly away from the darling girl behind them, Maura managed to smile softly at her through the open space and brought up a hand to wave warmly. Already, the senior girl knew that she’d won this petty battle. As far as she could manage to gather, the simpletons were on the verge of being expelled anyway, and their dumb expressions only did to solidify the nature of their ways. The type to ignore their studies, both of two’s mothers were probably already eager to wring both their necks for terrible grades, detentions and calls from the administrator’s office alike. A complaint that they’d been caught bullying a defenseless, young girl wouldn’t do them any justice and their receding steps down the hall forced a knowing grin upon the blonde’s lips. Once more, she was triumphant.
Stepping forward now, nose tilted and eyes watching curiously, Maura offered the stranger an apologetic smile and felt her cheeks turn warm. “Those two were only idiots,” she explained and shrugged. “You don’t deserve to catch any word of their stupidity. And certainly, I hope you haven’t taken anything they’ve said to heart.” Running the tip of her tongue along the belly of her lower lip, the blonde thought only momentarily before a small, quirked grin tugged at the corner of her mouth. “I’d really like your lunch period to go smoothly after that encounter you just underwent.” Playing distractedly at the hem of her dress, Maura asked, “Perhaps you’d like to eat with my friends and I? There’s this quaint spot that’s all our own and well, it’s at least away from all of this noise. You might feel a bit more comfortable there than with them?” Raising a brow, she gestured dully around, pointing out the obviously idiotic, hyper-activity of their peers.
