It's not an intended pun to say how joyous it is to actually be able to post a response to one of these! All month until now has been clogged by the misery of exam season, and now I'm free, yayyyyyyyy! 🎉

If I get the ideas churning, expect a flurry of writemas posts :D

Anyway, this piece concerns an important part of Eshani and Cerigo's backstory, in that his nephew was dying due to a spell by a sprite for stealing its eggs. In his nephew's final moments, Cerigo's sister is by the bedside, oblivious what's happening on Cerigo's end.

Alveri clasped her son’s hand in hers, eyes aching with tears.

The young boy rested in bed, head facing the window, the colour drained from his skin. His chest rose less as the hours passed.

No amount of healers could claim him from this repose. The resignation of which breathed from the first one clogged her very lungs. She sought to heal her son, but how? The lack of control brought fresh tears to light.

Her mind drifted to funeral arrangements, and all the people that come with that. All those faces to witness the vital tear in her soul, and the pain that ebbed from that.

She nodded off, eyes closing, hands going limp.

Caw.

“What?” She looked up, two magpies perched on the nightstand to the other side of the bed. “Shoo, get out!”

The two birds dodged her flaying hands, landing on either side of Ralis’ face. One of them held a vial in its beak, while the other pulled the cork out.

“No!” She grabbed the vial as it fell, the two birds flying to the windowsill. The clear, watery contents got splashed over Ralis’ mouth, a few drops landing on the fabric.

Alveri looked to the windowsill, where one perched still, the other gone. “What are you playing at? Go away.”

The magpie didn’t move. She strode over to it, bed sheets rustling behind her.

“Mom? Is that you?”

Her heart lurched. “Ralis-“

She went down and cupped her hands around his cheeks, wrapping her hands around him. “You’re awake. You’re awake.”

Tears flowed again, a taste different than before. “What way are you now?”

“I think it’s gone.” He said, letting his head fall upon the pillows.

She started laughing, smiling, light illuminating her eyes. “Brother, you only went and did it.”

Alveri glanced at the windowsill.

Both magpies were gone.

This one is raw so if you see any mistakes, no you don’t. It’s from an unposted fic called “Swimming Through the Void” for the amazing @themoonthesunandthestarsbetween coming (at some point) in 2025.

Thunder rumbled, the sound of it vibrating against 12 Grimmauld Place and shaking the wall Regulus’ four post bed was pressed against. A flash of light cracked in the sky, temporarily illuminating the room forcing the monsters to hide behind the chair, under the bed, in the closet for a brief moment. Regulus could still see their shadows and shuttered, fear wracking his tiny body. The hairs on his neck and arms raised along with his pale flesh. Before the thunder had a chance to respond to the shouting match from his parents down the hall, salvation came in the form of a yellow light peeking through an open door. “Reggie?” A small voice pierced through the black void Regulus was swallowed in. His mother didn’t allow for a nightlight, claiming it was for his own good. If she allowed such childish comforts, he would grow up to be afraid of the dark. “Siwi?” Regulus called, stumbling over the hook of the “r” that refused to roll off his tongue. Sirius took his name as an invitation and hastily entered the room, closing the door behind himself to hide the evidence of his midnight escape. Little feet padded against the hardwood and Regulus pulled back the cover and scooted over to make room for his brother. Sirius climbed in and wrapped his tiny limbs around an even smaller Regulus. The pair shuttered against each other as the sound of breaking glass echoed down the hall, slipping through the crack at the bottom of the door and into frail incomprehable ears. “They’we so angwy.” Regulus cried, nuzzling his nose into the crook of Sirius’ neck, breathing in the honeysuckle scent, desperate to smell the sunshine buried there. Cannons and a flash blasted at the same time as the rain poured down drowning out the sounds of domestic turbulence within the dark home and the two boys clung to each other in solidarity. “Siwi?” Regulus asked, pulling his brother closer to him, “can you sing me the song?” Regulus knew his brother wouldn’t have to clarify. There was one song that always cheered Regulus whenever he was feeling the least bit poorly. He had found comfort in the melody, the words, and the animated way Sirius usually performed—often on top of a high surface, as if he were on a stage performing just for Regulus. One star to another. Sirius ran an open palm over dark curls that sprang up as his fingers passed by them. “Yeah, alright. Climb over,” Sirius said. Regulus obeyed and climbed over his brother to snuggle into the open arms. Assuming his normal position, Sirius cradled Regulus in his arms, back to chest and rested a chubby cheek against long dark curls as he began to hum a sweet and happy tune that soothed the exposed nerves of Regulus’ ears. “I was sick and tired of everything When I called you last night from Glasgow All I do is eat and sleep and sing Wishing every show was the last show.” Sirius’ voice was low and shaky and his eyes were ever watchful on the door, as if he were anticipating a monster ti rip him away from soothing his brother. “So imagine I was glad to hear you comin’ Suddenly I feel alright And it’s gonna be so different when I’m on the stage tonight.” Regulus sang along, quietly echoing his brother in all the right spots, tripping over those pesky “r”s that tasted foreign on his soft palate. “Tonight the super trouper lights are gonna find me Shining like the sun, smiling having fun Feeling like a number one Tonight the super trouper beams are gonna blind me But I won’t feel blue, like I always do ‘Cause somewhere in the crowd there’s you.’ Time slowed, and the melody with it, giving the usually happy song a melancholy sound; still, the familiarity of the tune and his brother's arms alleviated the tremors that wracked his tiny frame, and soon, the littlest star was asleep.

Somewhere, anywhere, in North America lies the town of Gulch. This fully made starter town slots easily into horror millieu, urban fantasy, or magicless modern settings. Use it stand-alone or as a pit-stop on a psychedelic roadtrip, compatible with any RPG that has credit cards and cellphones.

Gulch is a collaboration between @speedballhippie and I, with both of us developing ideas for the town, Norn illustrating NPCs, and me slinging words.

All of the Major NPCs, like the eccentric Magpie Merriweather, come with easily adaptable quest hooks and atmospheric locations. This is the beautiful fusion of Americana, Canadiana, and eldritch curiosities.

Gulch is not without tension, however. Two gangs vie for control of the town. On one end the Ivory Owl Radicals think they can build the perfect utopia from horseback. Opposing them are the Midnighters, led by The Ragman, riding their dirt bikes and sowing chaos.

Taking a break from sci-fi and fantasy to try and wrestle a superhero setting! These are two of Los Angeles’ most famous teams; the freelancing gray-hat Murder of Crows (who, contrary to their name, do not do murder. It’s in the contract) and the freelancing mostly-white-hat Wild and Free (who will assure you that they are not wild, but rather moderate in reality). Also their cats. Lore about the setting, why they’re wearing military uniforms, the nature of superpowers, and more below the cut.

This setting is called Layer Eta, the sixth divergent timeline from Layer Alpha, aka our reality. Layer Eta is quite a plain reality, being far less flashy than the sci-fi space opera of Zeta, or the magic post apocalypse of Epsilon. But it has felt the fallout of its two closest neighbors, as Æther and Antimatter slip into the bodies of people, animals, plants, and even fungi, blessing (or perhaps inflicting) them with superpowers.

For most of history, such super powered things were seen as witches or wizards, one-of-a-kind exotic beasts, or magical ingredients to heal or kill. But after the end of World War Two, the Cold War’s arms race kickstarted government interest in such superpowers. Special military branches were created for superpowered soldiers; the USA’s Supernatural Force, the USSR’s (later Russia’s) Extraordinary Combat Force, Great Britain’s Paranatural Military Force, etc. Eventually, independent groups of supers began cropping up, with hiring out their services to police forces and private clients, and others either integrating with or starting their own criminal enterprises. Often, these ‘private’ groups clash, either in open battle or non-combat negotiations, over everything from business interests to copyright, with so-called ‘public’ groups, which are extensions of police or military forces.

‘Private’ groups who lean towards the black-hat side are often called crews, since they usually consist of no more than ten members. This label distinguishes them from gangs, which are usually far larger but also have more non-powered members. ‘Public’ groups are called squads or units, depending on their parent organization.

Most supers, no matter their association, wear military-styled uniforms. Though most ‘public’ groups wear more modern military-style fatigues or dress uniforms, ‘private’ groups, both black and white hat, usually don more personalized and stylized clothing, often harkening back to historical military dress, with double-breasted coats, high collars, high boots, and bold colors being common. This mode of dress is one of the only holdovers from the origin of superpowered teams, as most countries (save the US) have long since dissolved their superpowered branches.

The two ‘private’ groups picture here are longtime rivals, as their respective founders, Zachary Zhou (aka Midnight Raven) and Kenneth de Klerk (aka Golden Lightning) were college friends back in the day. Both ‘realized’ their powers in college, and vowed that they’d each gather a crew and prove themselves to each other.

The Murder consists of Zachary Zhou, William Weber (Albatross and childhood friend of Zach), Victor Velásquez (Harpy, former co-worker at McDonalds with Zach and Will, and boyfriend of Logan), Logan Lloyd (Magpie and boyfriend of Victor), and Evelyn Ellis (Swallowtail and cousin by marriage of Logan).

The Wild and Free consists of Kenneth de Klerk, Lily London (Lily of the Valley, former co-worker at Home Depot with Ken, and fiancée of Robin), Robin Reed (Red Herring and fiancée of Lily), Oliver O’Connor (Cat’s Paw and adoptive brother of Ken), and Jamie Jett (Crescent Moon and former cheer teammate with Robin).

★ florence joined the eras setlist and we threw a fit over the patterning of her choker

★ we got candids of taylor sporting a circular vivienne westwood bag with big 🧿 energy

★ taylor wore something from MONSE from a collection they put out that had a lot of eyeballs in their designs 🥴

yes ok. welcome back! did i make you dizzy? jeepers my eyes do hurt, just after putting together this update! but i come bearing gifts…! frankincense, myrrh, gold, and a *plump* 2021 eye theory update for the remaining bakers dozen or so of us left hanging in this manger… because apparently that’s just the way things will be 😘 again, i’m far past proving this thing and more into sharing, yeah, sharing the fun memories over the past year living with this theory so that’s what i’ll do. and this requires more than the ten picture limit so in lieu of that i will be updating only once but with links to each finding. my demarcation is the same as last year:

2021 year in review

JANUARY

★ kimby posting the eye mirror thing at the beginning of the year (which i posted about at the end of the last update)

★karlie liked a tweet (a rarity at the time) from henry hall promoting his new album… that had an eye and the number 13 on the album cover.

-we found another great photo match example

☆ we noticed something up with a new carolina herrera ad that ended up showing up again later in the year

☆ we noticed taylor covering her eye during rep tour while singing even in my worst lies you saw the truth in me

-we noticed an oft forgotten appearance of the evil eye ring in the rep promo material, photos of her on the beach

FEBRUARY

☆ we found a potential easter egg in the end game mv

★ one of the lyric videos for fearless TV had a fun synching moment ..that taylor then put in her instagram stories

★ taylor posted a bleachella era pic of her and the haim sisters that had the sisters covering eyes with their hoodies, and then honest to god this is just one of those thing i can’t quite conscionably explain but there are two boxes of pizzas being held and the cheese only pizza looks like the “blank” of the two pizzas and it’s to the right of the picture

★ kayda and kai did some eye funny business

MARCH

★ the grammys… so, taylor’s performance included choreography that covers her right side eye along with the line “guess i should have known from the look on your face” and i know this is one of the things people particularly do not like but i’m such a sucker for prop comedy: i think the shape of the lean-to cabin itself is the shape of an eye and also the belted waist part of her dress looks like an eye, i said what i said

-and this can’t help but feel like chance, but, we got this red carpet press photo of her grammy covering her eye

-something also feeling serendipitous, karlie got papped by some eye graffiti

-The Vault reveal left me wanting to get my eyes checked 😂

☆ we realized one could make the argument that there’s a eye isolated by the mask on her male counterpart in willow, and that the mask has a drooping daisy embroidered on it

-i got the chance to talk a little bit more about my thoughts on the editing that went on with the mert and marcus rep photoshoot photos, and my thoughts on computer graphic manipulation as it relates to other things, in particular lead time

★ taylor seemed to have more fun with synching up the fearless tv clip to music 🙈

★ taylor’s mother’s day merch included a postcard with a daisy and the lyric “i love you for giving me your eyes”

MAY

-not for nothing, austin posted a picture of him at the Oculus building in NYC (oculus being a word that means eye, austin being someone who rarely updates his instagram these days)

★ karlie got back in the saddle with posting an eye out of frame

★ some preview photos of karlie’s green adidas collection were released, and they included this amazing shot

and wouldnt ya know it she made it her profile pic after the collection release

JUNE

★ more kayda funny business (i feel like there were a lot more of these but i wasn’t able to keep track)

★ karlie got papped wearing a prada jacket with a print of a one eyed beach babe

-taylor mixed up her words during a thank you speech while accepting an award and said “she helped me to edit my eyes” which i mean i don’t think it was intentional but it certainly made my year 🙈

★ karlie wore this versace blazer that inexplicably has a hole cut out of it to the right?? which was made even more meaningful given the fact that i had been spiraling over the tie with the hole in it in the lwymmd video a few months prior idk 😆

★ then the Renegade music video was released and it was just chock a block with eye manipulation! singled out eyes, taylor covering her right side eye with her hands, with her hair, the eyes on her face cut out and zoomed in on. like, i’m sorry, it’s 2021 and we are really doing this ladies???

-and i came up with a funny (/emotional)

-karlie met with schiaparelli in paris, who had just come out with a collection full of gilded eyes among other body parts

★ karlie blocked an eye for estée lauder —a true pastime— and thus began the formalization of the tradition of me waking up to karlie having posted something ocular to instagram

☆ adam rippon posted a little ode to karlie’s “looking camp right in the eye 👁 ” moment, which normally id just chalk up to it having become a meme but at the same time, bobby berk liked the post and they were both in the yntcd mv, so it’s sorta amusing

★ karlie posts “filed under baking inspo” moodboard which included a pic of a face made of food with one eye 🥴🥴🥴 like i’m sorry, is this not proof of acknowledgement 😆

★ karlie posts a photoset of her in workout clothes and she’s covering the left side eye in a lot of the pics

★ karlie wore some eye-like rain and sunshine earrings from two jewelers that also make custom lover’s eye jewelry

SEPTEMBER

★ taylor covered an eye on the tiktok

-i noticed that each of karlie’s adidas collections had their own moments

-also like this is simply an act of god but somehow taylor and karlie got a photo taken at the 2014 met gala where karlie is standing to the right next to a woman with an eye purse…?

☆we noticed two things about the UPS commercial she did during rep era

★ karlie hid an eye while getting ready for the met gala which was the start to a crazy crazy day here on kaylor tumblr

☆ someone kindly pointed out to me that birch feat. taylor swift just as names of trees goes is also sus 🥴

-we listed up some of the possibly eye theory -aligned taymoji

★ karlie posted a promo clip of her designing her met dress at carolina herrera and it had an eye moment

-taylor has sort of established winks as a Taylor’s Version easter egg gesture so i don’t really count things like this in the grand scheme of things but i can’t help but feel this wink was exaggerated in post which would mean the eye could have been edited, and for that i’ll mention it

-this is just an it’s a small world moment having to do with researching the band of outsiders brand

★ karlie blocking eyes again in a photoshoot make that two

✦★✶ karlie went to mert alas’ gin release party in paris I REPEAT she went to the party being held by the guy who took the rep album photoshoot photos aka the guy who took the actual eye theory photo and not only did she get a pic with him, she drank out of the gin glasses that had an eye like pattern cut into them???

★ karlie woke me up again and chose violence

-i forget how i ran into this but it’s this old photoshoot of karlie in a daisy full body suit with her arms and head in the shape of an eye idk lol

★ karlie posted a photoset with some eye blocking moments going on

NOVEMBER

-in a moment of meta, karlie got the chance to post a pic of bert and ernie to her instagram stories as she was also a part of the WSJ innovators issue

-The Missing Eye Puzzle Piece it turned out that the missing capital one red bundle puzzle piece was simply missing, and it has been found, **but** i had an amazing couple of weeks imagining the ARG possibilities. oh and i still love that the right side eye is the 11th puzzle piece across, 8 rows down (karlie numbers)

DECEMBER

★ karlie posted again blockin an eye 😂

★ shes so good at finding an opportunity

★ karlie wearing a sweatshirt with an eye on it because why not i guess 🙈

-surely coincidental but i did laugh at where her music choice in this post led me

★ and it turned out the eye glassware at the mert alas gin release party ended up being used in the promo photos for the stuff

so there you have it, folks! 2021, a kaylor year that had me throwing my hands up and deciding to bend with the wind and roll with the punches… paid dividends?! i included the ephemera (the winks and out of frames) just because i see them as a sustainable avenue for the dreary new parent, but all these aside it still blows my mind how many distinctly significant things happened in conjunction with the theory this year and i hope very very deeply and earnestly that each and every one of you may have had the chance to crack a smile or two as well 😌

its weird… seeing karlie and mert photographed gave me this lavish sense of… coming full circle! but 🥰 who knows what next year will bring. what can i say, as if it was my greco-roman destiny, i know i will always beat the drum for this theory if they will have me. eye can’t help myself!
