Surviving in the post-apocalyptic, totalitarian world where emotions are banned from adults is not an easy feat. Victoire Weasley tries to navigate it and not lose herself in the process, all while falling in love with her best friend, Teddy Lupin.

💜 Just a Minerva in Time by @bluestringpudding [Hermione/Minerva, G, 6.4k] — Time travel, BAMF young Minerva, intrigue, romance! This fic has everything!

Hermione is going to need to remember how she got there, if she wants to go back.

💜 Master of None by @nanneramma [Cormac/Severus, G, 5.5k] — Hilarious and made me cry tears of joy. A masterpiece in comedy. Severus has finally met his match in himbo (and buff!) Cormac.

Severus tries new things, and meets someone unexpected.

Her grey-scale painted lips, darker than the billowing curls and sharper than her teeth, never turn down. They are lighter than the oily drip down her temples, glittering in her hair. She is always smiling. It surely is a marvel, to behold the presence of the Mad Queen. 

💜 Through the Middlegame by @sandervansunshine [Astoria & Peter, T, 6.6k] — One of my absolute favorite portrayals of Peter I have ever read. The dialogue, the characters, the angst. I want to tattoo this fic directly onto my brain. Perhaps my new fav fic of the year!

💜 who lives in the castle? by @luxuriousmalfoy [Cho & Harry, M, 2.5k] — The ambience, the vibes!! I loved the mystery and the world-building. And of course, I love my girl Cho.

A century after the abrupt disappearance of magic, they seek out the place they hope to find it again—only to find themselves wondering if it was worth the cost. Cho and Harry have one question. Who lives in the castle?

💜 You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Angelina/Romilda, T, 6.8k] — The perfect romcom fic. Romilda is such a hoot, and her antics are so on brand. If this was turned into a movie, I'd be the first one at the theater.

Romilda is determined to seduce her nephew’s Quidditch instructor, even if she has to get a bit creative.

Yes for Bridgerton definitely take them back to where it started!!! Prob just me but I'd also love a leap forward... I dunno how you plan to deal w Anakin but I'd love to see Padme and him reunited and her like not feeling it and being like why is this? oh damn that's why, and meanwhile Obi-Wan is quietly consumed with his feelings about this reunion because he thinks Padme still loves Anakin.

Obviously just my headcanon of your story, however you do it I'm here for It! please don't take it as my trying to tell you how to write it!!!

So like I mentioned before I have one more scene in this sort of ‘early middlegame’ section promised. And then I do think we’ll probably jump back to the start because it is becoming increasingly important to have that context of what happened and what precisely their arrangement is. You know, before we get to the fun bits.

Anakin will definitely show up in this fic. I have a very specific way I plan to solve for him. And the feelings will be ‘complicated’ on all sides. I have a rule of thumb when I write love triangles that I always try to write the most sympathetic version of the character who isn’t part of the primary couple as I can. So yes this Anakin is fundamentally a really good guy. And yes this Obi-Wan will absolutely proceed to be consumed by feelings for lots of different reasons. And it will be a mess right up until the moment it isn’t and I am really excited to bring it to you when we get there.

And don’t worry that I’ll take it as you trying to tell me what to write. I have a fairly clear vision of where I’m going to take it but I love hearing everyone else’s thoughts and desires around this crazy little au. It’s so much fun interacting this way.

i was kinda in a reading slump this month, and i am not sure i am over it just yet. i’m not doing too great mentally atm, so reading has been kind of a chore that i had to push myself to do. Il le chercha en italien sur Internet. « Verrà la morte e avrà i tuoi occhi ». Il doutait de la prononciation. Se promit de commencer un cours d’italien en ligne. De relire l’entrée « Italie. Langue et littérature », dans le volume 12 de l’encyclopédie (Inceste – Jean Paul). Il n’osa pas recopier les mots du poète qui donneraient une tonalité trop pathétique au texte. Il plia la feuille, l’inséra dans une enveloppe sur laquelle il écrivit : « à ouvrir en cas de décès ». L’heure était tragique décidément, lourde de bilans définitifs. Une énorme rage contre son temps l’étouffait. Son père, ni Jérôme ni personne ne l’écouteraient s’il les appelait. La journée promettait d’être longue. La voisine ne reviendrait pas mais il pouvait lui parler. Parfaitement, personne ne l’empêchait de partager ses connaissances avec elle, même en son absence. Personne. Il voulut amplifier son état encore, le porter à un point d’ébullition. Peut-être qu’ainsi il exploserait tout net, répandrait des flots de bile noire contre les murs. Il se rendit sur le site Lichess.org pour faire quelques parties. De sa très stricte éducation, Gustave avait gardé l’esprit de sacrifice, le goût des crucifixions fanfaronnes. Aux échecs, sa stratégie agressive d’échanges de pièces avait pu déconcerter ses adversaires de onze ans, en 6e bleue surtout, une de ses plus belles années, il s’en souvenait maintenant, où tous les espoirs de destin splendide étaient permis, où il avait gagné trois tournois inter-collèges d’affilée (il se souvenait de ses adversaires, des garçonnets uniquement, venus des collèges Saint-Sébastien-percé-de-Flèches, Sainte-Agathe-aux-Seins-coupés, Saint-Étienne-le-Lapidé), mais aujourd’hui, aujourd’hui… la véhémence de ses attaques s’émoussait vite contre la machine sur son écran qu’il appelait Docteur Mabuse, ou plus simplement, l’Ordure avec une majuscule. L’odieuse machine, l’Ordure sinistre, le hachait menu, trois, quatre, vingt fois par jour. Il y revenait tête baissée, ouvrait systématiquement avec son pion en e4, perdait à nouveau en quelques minutes. Il ouvrait des livres (Soviet Chess 1917-1991 d’Andy Soltis, The Hypermodern Chess Game de Savielly Tartakower, The Art of the Middlegame de Paul Keres et Alexander Kotov), les refermait, se fiait à son seul instinct, à sa combativité, à son panache. Il cherchait des photos de Bobby Fischer sur Google Images, téléchargeait celles du combat du siècle contre Spassky à Reykjavik, en Islande (relief culminant à 2 109 m au Hvannadalshnjúkur ; superficie de 102 775 km2 ; t’avait-on dit déjà, ô toi que j'eusse aimée, ô toi qui le savais, que l’assemblée des chefs islandais, l’Althing, fondée en 930, était considérée comme le plus vieux Parlement au monde ?). Il choisissait une photo du maître sous l’eau, en position du lotus, affichant un large sourire et un torse athlétique. Il l’imprimait, la contemplait longuement, s’imprégnait de sa puissance sereine. Mais Mabuse à présent connaissait ses habitudes, ignorait tout à fait le portrait que Gustave brandissait devant l’écran pour le déconcentrer. Un obscur surfeur californien, un programmateur inculte aux slips fluo ridicules avait appris à la machine à se nourrir de ses adversaires, à disloquer leur enthousiasme comme l’Universelle Aragne avec Charles le Téméraire – retrouvé nu dans la neige au bord de l’étang Saint-Jean, le crâne fendu jusqu’aux dents par un coup de hallebarde, une joue rongée par les loups, un matin de janvier 1477. Son petit roque au sixième coup était bloqué par une saloperie de fou noir embusqué en a6 qui bloquait le trajet de son roi. Gustave insultait la machine et balançait d’aller chercher trois nouvelles bouteilles de Chinon au Carrefour. Il en badigeonnerait l’écran, peut-être, pour voir. Il projetait de fracasser son vieil ordinateur et de ne plus écrire qu’à la main, de se contenter des informations radiophoniques. Il se contenait, décidait de retarder le moment du premier verre après une seule victoire. En principe, la machine lui laissait gagner une partie sur quinze, par une sorte de raillerie, enchaînant les erreurs grossières délibérément pour ne lui laisser aucun doute sur sa supériorité définitive. Gustave imaginait le rire qui circulait dans les câbles sous-marins en fibre optique, quelque part au milieu de l’Atlantique, du côté des Açores sans doute, où l’avion de Marcel Cerdan s’était écrasé dans la nuit du 27 au 28 octobre 1949, Edith Piaf était ravagée. « Ah ce Gustave F. », il imaginait un long bourdonnement sardonique de 0 et de 1, « quelle pauvre merde ! » Froidement, le docteur Mabuse anéantissait ses charges désespérées, comme les archers anglais la fine fleur de la noblesse française à la bataille de Crécy (1348). Ou 1346 ? Gustave lâcha le jeu et ouvrit le volume 6 de son encyclopédie (Climatologie – Cytologie), vautré sur le parquet, comme s’il était saoul. Il n’y avait aucune entrée à Crécy dans le corpus, rien entre les entrées Corbillon et Crédit. Il ne trouva qu’un misérable paragraphe dans le thésaurus, avec une date tout de même, 26 août 1346. Une phrase abominable l’arrêta : « La randonnée entreprise en Normandie par le roi d’Angleterre Edouard III n’avait pas pour but la conquête du duché mais répondait au désir d’intervenir dans les affaires continentales, comme la guerre de Succession de Bretagne ». Qu’est-ce que c’était que ce galimatias ? « Randonnée » ? « Répondait au désir » ? Personne n’avait osé signer ces lignes, bien entendu. Il trouva tout de même l’image qu’il cherchait : « La défaite française tint pour l’essentiel à l’obstination des chevaliers français qui, méprisant l’infanterie anglaise dont les archers s’embusquaient facilement et manifestaient une grande souplesse tactique, chargèrent à découvert et massivement. » Il était bien tout à fait un chevalier français fonçant héroïquement contre les archers perfides de l’ennemi glacé. Il enchaîna trois défaites contre l’Infâme, des Bérézina complètes, des Waterloo consternants, des presque quasi mat au 5e ou 7e coup. Il interrompait les parties pour ne pas laisser cette joie à l’Ordure, ne pas entendre le râle sonore de contentement qui marquait ses victoires. Il se retint d’aller ouvrir les pages d’information sur Internet, balança de jeter l’ordinateur par la fenêtre ou de le tuer sous le jet de douche. Il rouvrit son testament. Précisa qu’il interdisait à la voisine héritière de jouer contre la machine, toute pratique du jeu en solitaire, la lecture de ses livres de stratégie qu’il lui conseillait de vendre au plus vite. Il médita un bref paragraphe sur sa pratique assidue et pathétique des échecs. Il s’arrêta sur ce mot, ce mot déjà, ce mot sans équivoque. Il composerait un bref paragraphe, un poème peut-être, qui dirait en brèves formules ciselées ce qui l’avait perdu pour la vraie vie, pour les déjeuners sur l’herbe avec la voisine du 5e. Ce serait mélancolique et poignant. Là tiendrait tout entier, incontestable et minuscule, son grand œuvre, au seuil de sa mort. (À suivre).

A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

I have only written 3 fics ever so I’m not sure I exactly have a favorite, per se? I’ll just say something I like about each one instead I guess. I’m really proud of the ending of An Oath, Until The End; I like the narration/character voice in Promises of Sanctuary; I like the speculative aspects of Hold Tight, Fear Not.

H: How would you describe your writing style?

Noodly and a bit purple.

(I was so, so tempted to leave it at that. But that would be too silly even for me, so: still developing, therefore noodly, and occasionally pretentious, therefore purple. Also fairly description-heavy-- I like details!)

J: What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

Does hurt/comfort count? ...Because that’s most of what I’ve written so far. *hides 200+ bookmarked hurt/comfort fics under the rug*

I am also a sucker for all manner of telepathic shenanigans. I haven’t written any yet.

L: Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?

I think I’m up to 5 instances of spontaneously making myself cry literal, actual tears while writing Hold Tight, Fear Not.

N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?

I have a fairly out-there theory for a plot thing in The Magnus Archives, which I will probably write up and post once Hold Tight, Fear Not is done. Also a handful of crossovers which may or may not ever get past the notes-on-my-phone stage.

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

Fun fact! I deliberately tried to emulate Seanan McGuire a la Down Among the Sticks and Bones in a couple of places in the fics I’ve written so far, and discovered after the fact that it had come out very Middlegame-ish! So, yeah. (cough read her books cough)

T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?

There are some common-ish AU categories I’m not as fond of? It takes a lot for me to get invested in real-world/no powers AUs; they can be cool character/relationship/what-could-have-been studies when done well, but there’s always the risk of accidentally gutting or turning nonsensical the characters’ motivations, which I personally find to be kind of a bummer.

V: Are there certain comments you’ve received on your stories that have stuck with you?

Someone once told me that I was really good at interspersing heavy emotional moments with humor and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

Z: Is there a story you’ve written that doesn’t seem to get much love?

Hold Tight, Fear Not has been out for a month and only just yesterday got to the same first-week hit count as my other two stories :( Although that’s partially due to the fact that it’s a multi-chapter fic that gets updated on Mondays. I’m planning on switching to Saturday uploads; hopefully more people will see it then.

8.   Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read?

Yes and no?  Maybe more yes than no, but maybe not in the way you might think? I like reading books with good intricate worldbuilding, and I like writing those, too (this is clearest in the soulmate timer au but also is important to the hp au...ish, and as far as books, this is clearest in the Brandon Sanderson books, even though it’s been a while since I was actively reading those, and in Seanan McGuire’s Middlegame). I like reading books with an interactive narrative voice - where it’s mostly third person but you have a narrator who occasionally switches into first person and talks to you - and I want to be better at writing these and like writing these but it mostly hasn’t popped up in fanfic (and this is clearest in my enjoyment of the Fairyland series and East of Eden, although it’s also a general hallmark of Catherynne M. Valente’s books, not just the Fairyland series). You can make the argument that the above is tied into metafiction, which I love to read and to write (but that’s more noticeable in my original fic than in my fanfic). I like reading modern fantasy and books with a fairy tale feel (even if they aren’t retellings), and I really like writing modern fantasy and fairy tale feeling books (this is clearest in my original fics but also in Luisa and the Fox, and as far as books, these are the books I’ve primarily been reading recently - both in my binge of Catherynne M. Valente’s books and in my current binge of some of Seanan McGuire’s books (particularly Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day and the Wayward Children series)). And obviously I really like reading and writing Roisa fanfic. However. As much as I have been consistently writing shipping fic for over a year now, outside of specific ships, I’m not usually into, you know, books where romance is the focus.  Even the Twilight series (which I do like) - my favorite was the fourth book because it did more worldbuilding (see point one).  So like - it’s a mix of yes and no. ...did I use this question as an excuse to promote some good books/authors?  Maybe.

11.   What do you envy in other writers?

Dialogue.  Good dialogue.  I think there are some writers in the Roisa fandom who capture Rose and/or Luisa better than I do - particularly in the way they talk - and I’m jealous of that. Some writers have a more poetic turn of phrase to their writing that I really like and would love to emulate (Valente, again, but that’s not unique to published authors, there are other fanfic authors that do this, too, that I envy). And I know it’s not about the numbers but sometimes it’s just that popularity thing.  I know that’s bad.  But it’s still true.

24.   Would you say your writing has changed over time?

Yes.

I’m more inclined to reach out across the lgbtqia+ spectrum than I used to be.  I actually finish stuff, and I didn’t use to.  I think some of my earlier Roisa fanfics had better grasp of Lu’s voice, but like...I think I’m a stronger writer than I used to be.  A lot stronger.  And I’ve gotten better at seeding breadcrumbs and hints about later stuff I had planned than I used to. That said, some of my early stuff still gets...at least on AO3, I don’t think that most of the earlier stuff on AO3 is bad.  I still think it’s okay, and I still think that it’s good for my writing at the time.  You know? It’s not bad (mostly).  I’ve just gotten better.

Yugi wakes as Atem pulls into a hotel. Yami is a warm blanket, a brand, on his right side. His arm is looped around Yugi’s waist, thumb in his belt loop, and Yugi wants him to tug him closer and close the distance. He wants Yami to let go and run run run. 

He watches Atem get out of the car and walk into the lobby to enquire about a room. It’s hard to believe that a week ago, he’d been ring shopping despite Atem’s continuous dodging of the marriage question.  

Now Yugi supposes he knows why.  

Atem hasn’t been with him because he loves him. Atem had agreed to that first date because being the other half of a couple was an easy way to keep an eye on Yugi, to stay close for when the order to kill him came.  

And come it did. 

Yugi doesn’t move his head, Yami’s is resting on it and Yugi can hear the little wheeze of his breath. It means Yugi has a good view of the parking lot lights reflecting off the gold ring on his right index finger.  

“Here,” Atem had said. “We don’t need to get married. I’m yours. And here’s the matching rings to prove it.” 

It’s not the same, it’s why six months later Yugi dreamt of a gazebo and a priest and cake, a ring on his ring finger.  

Yugi knows, now, that none of it was real. He still can’t bring himself to take the ring off.

Let the Stars Rise is here! Third in the series that was really me just liking the concepts in Middlegame, and then turning them into a very emotional mobiumshipping situation.

Atem can already see it, a repeat of last night. Yugi choosing Yami, Yami choosing Yugi. The brief moment of belonging Yugi gave Atem last night has faded, gone as they resynced, and Atem expected that, but he still wishes.

Yugi is suddenly next to him, grabbing a slice. There is nothing to use as a plate, not even paper towels. He hisses slightly at the heat on his hands, but it doesn't stop Yugi from taking a large bite. He groans in appreciation and Atem has to step away. Yami fills his space, eager for his own dinner.

Atem takes the opportunity to scan the parking lot for signs of DOMA before pulling the curtains fully closed. By the time he grabs his first piece of pizza, the other two are halfway through a second. Whatever they've done today in their shared world, controlling the earth's reaction to their union, it's made them hungry.

Yami has a calculated approach to it, minimizing the mess, maximizing his bites. Yugi might open his mouth just as wide, but he eats with a lot more gusto. Atem can't help but watch him suck each of his fingers clean, gaze on the TV. Yami watches too.

One day soon, it'll be Yami holding Yugi's hand, kissing his palm, tasting his skin. Atem mourns the loss but covers it by giving Yami a smug look. Yami will have Yugi soon, but Atem has had him.

A fic for Yami, Yugi, and Atem.

This damn AU better be done now. I have other stories I want to concentrate on!

Summary: There's a connection between Yugi and Yami. They can fall into one another. Hear each other speak from miles away. But when they touch, the ground shakes and splits and it's too dangerous, too dangerous by far.

And so Yugi splits - away from temptation, away from destruction.

Turns out, Atem isn't safer.

Comments: A Mobiumshipping version of Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, with Yugi as Rodger, Yami as Dodger, and Atem as Erin. If you care. Otherwise, you can just read it for all the emotional tangle of these men. Yami pines. Atem pines. Yugi is the only one who doesn't, because he keeps thinking he should get over Atem but why do that if he can connect them in a thruple?

I will edit and upload the next bit of Vessels tonight. I will, I will. Also, damn, Atem got angsty. But that's expected when you're an assassin who was supposed to kill your boyfriend - but didn't! - but now said boyfriend feels betrayed and believes you never actually loved him but you do, oh you do.

To Dartz, Justice is tied with Order. It’s goodness and the ability to uphold the laws of the world. Dartz’s laws, ideally, but his laws aren’t good, aren’t just, and there are laws the cosmos follow that human kind doesn’t. Why would Atem follow Dartz’s concept of order, after the blood on his hands?

But Yugi and Yami are the cosmos, or at least a part of it. A larger part than Atem is by his own, maybe even larger all of his siblings. Virtues are guides for people. Math and language aren’t restricted to humans. There’s math in the spreading of tree branches, there’s language in the dance of bees.

He wants to take the two of them and hide. Wants to lift them up higher than anyone. Wants to set them loose on DOMA and grin at the carnage.

He wants to place his hand on Yugi’s shoulder and not feel him tense. Wants to see what Yami would do if he placed a kiss on his pale cheek.

Atem wants to fit in a way he hasn’t for years. The six he spent living with Yugi were the closest, feeling the hum of something else under Yugi’s skin and knowing his body vibrated the same way. Knowing they were different from each other, from the world, but not at the same time.

He glances in the mirror again. They’re tangled so tight, twins but not; it's hard to imagine how he would fit there. But Yugi is wearing his ring still. There’s hope.

I always thought the first mobiumshipping fic I wrote would be a romance-angst hanahaki fic (that idea have been floating for months), not....this.

Not complaining though.

Yugi had fallen in love with Atem’s passion, his dedication. Not that long ago, he'd thought it devotion to him. It's not, not really. Yugi is a path to revenge. A path to right things. A path to spite Atem's enemy.  

It's not just Yugi. Yugi and Yami are a matched pair, a created pair, linked to each other in ways Yugi can't articulate.  They are a unit, words and numbers, seed and sun, dog and leash, plan and execution.  

Atem is ready to defend them both.  

Yugi looks at their rings, gold dull in the shaded room. Did Atem not want to marry him because Yugi is Yami's? Or did he just view Yugi as a mission, someone to watch until it became time to act? Except he used to watch Yami too, Atem traded after the first earthquake, and Yugi thinks he knows why. 

Yami will do anything Yugi asks. He doesn't even have to make it an order. Get Yugi, get Yami, and Yugi can't bring himself to mind. He's never, never leaving Yami again. It'd been physically painful. He'd needed Atem's soothing touch. 

Words to speak the plan. Numbers to craft it. Justice to aim. 

Yugi stretches his index finger so it hooks around Atem's far hand, trapping Yami's. Yami's finger is the only one without a ring and Yugi wants to speak a third into existence.
