09/30/08 - Mick 7 answers your questions!
This is an old interview of Mick (#7) that I found, enjoy!!
Hey, I am like, the UK's number 1 Slipknot fan, and have always wanted to know, what inspired your mask design?
Matthew Fulton- 14
MICK: Nothing. I had my original latex hockey mask way back and then my leather one and I was using those designs and it morphed into what it is now. There isn’t something crazy creative about it.
Hey Mick! I just want to let you know that you are a huge inspiration to me. You were one of the reasons I picked up a guitar, B.C Rich 7 string Warlock as my own first purchase, and got serious about it. My question is, how do you get new ideas for riffs and solos. I've made a couple of my own songs, but I always get stuck trying to make cool catchy riffs or solos. Got any advice?
Jim- 16
MICK: Yes. Don’t over-think it. Just let it happen. Things come out. If you try and plan or force it will sound forced or dishonest. I never try and over-think a direction whatever comes out 1st time I play it comes out. I never spend a ton of time thinking because it sounds forced. If you spend too much time thinking about it, it won’t sound like you. Don’t try and sound like someone else.
How does it feel to be getting back to work with the rest of Slipknot after a 3 year hiatus? Did it feel great knowing you were going to be back behind the mask and in a recording studio once again or was it just the same as it was 3 years ago?
Matt Haynes- 16
MICK: Things are always different when doing a new record. You are a different person than you were years ago. I don’t think in those terms. I just do what I do! But yes it felt good getting back to work.
What has been your scariest nightmare?
Paul Hawkins- 16
MICK: I wouldn’t say I have had a scariest nightmare but it would probably be something that deals with me not having genitals anymore…
If you could play any other role except Rythym/Lead guitarist in the band which would it be?
Bryan Lares
MICK: I wouldn’t.
What was the biggest culture shock you experienced in a foreign country during SK a tour?
Marcelle Andrade- 21
MICK: Being forced to shit into an ornate porcelain hole in the ground in Japan. OR having a warm stream of water tickle my asshole from the bidet in my hotel, also in Japan.
Mick, what advice would u give to young metal musicians trying to get our band noticed without reverting to the typical main stream sound?
Alex Munro- 16
MICK: Music should be honest, it should be an extension if you. You shouldn’t try and achieve a sound. It should just be you and not what you are trying to manufacture. We didn’t pay attention to the trends at the time when we wrote. We did what we felt and that is what you should do. You should play music for you and not to be noticed.
I'm Marina. OK I know that you probably get this question asked a lot by fan-girls but are you single, and can i ask u out on a date if you are :) ?
Marina Spevak- 25
MICK: Send pictures and I will get back to you.
Hi Mick! What Pedals do you use for Before I Forget and Heretic Anthem, and what Guitar would you recommend for a O.K Metal player at good price (like below $400)?
Alex Hayden
MICK: I don’t use pedals on either one of those songs or any pedals of any kind. But if its distortion you are referring to I just have a tube head turned up loud. There isn’t one really so buy used. You can’t get anything new that price worth anything. Look at pawn shops and buy a decent used early to late 90’s Ibanez especially an RG 570.
Hey micl! I'm from Iran. First you should know you've got MANY fans in Iran! Seriously. :D My question is what's the meaning of the tattoo on your arm? The Asian one…
Sohrab Alimardani- 18
MICK: It means hate in Japanese.
What do you think is the meaning of life?
Krista
MICK: Life is without meaning. And we are all totally insignificant in the whole scheme of things.
Just touring with slipknot but be crazy but what is the single most brutal moment you can recall while on tour?
Shawn Jarvis- 15
MICK: Watching a guy die in a police chase about 100 feet in front of me...

Immune cell regulator discovery could lead to treatments for arthritis and severe COVID - Published Aug 14, 2024
The discovery of a new regulator affecting immune cells could lead to new treatments to reduce inflammation in diseases including arthritis and severe COVID 19.
A large research collaboration, led by the University of Exeter's MRC Center for Medical Mycology, has focused on how immune cells sense their environment. This activity triggers responses which are finely balanced, to protect against disease and infection, and to reduce cell-damaging inflammation.
The research, titled "Recognition and control of Neutrophil Extracellular Trap formation by MICL" published in Nature, looked at the behavior of a receptor known as MICL, and its role in both preventing inflammation and protecting against infection.
Lead author Dr. Mariano Malamud, from the University of Exeter, said, "We've discovered that MICL is a key receptor that causes severe inflammatory disease when its functions are altered. This opens the door to the development of new therapies that target MICL, which could reduce the severity of inflammatory diseases and protect against infection."
Most receptors in the immune system sense their environment and send signals to cells, telling them to activate in response to changes such as infection or tissue damage. The team's work has revealed that MICL does the opposite, inhibiting the activation of the cell. This is an important function, as over-activation of cells can lead to cell damage and the development of auto-immune diseases if left unchecked.
The team went on to demonstrate the essential role that MICL plays in regulating inflammation in severe COVID 19, as well as arthritis and some other autoimmune diseases.
The new research, conducted in mice and verified in patients, focuses on the function of MICL present on the most abundant form of immune cell called a neutrophil.
As a result of an autoimmune disease or infection, neutrophils can undergo NETosis, a form of programmed cell death which is key for controlling infections but is very inflammatory. The team has found that MICL is able to detect this, and its inhibitory activity prevents more neutrophils from dying in this way.
NETosis cell death has been linked to several inflammatory diseases in humans, including Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis and severe COVID. These inflammatory diseases lead to the production of antibodies that bind to MICL, preventing its inhibitory function and resulting in more severe disease.
Conversely, the study showed that increasing NETosis by blocking MICL function can protect against infection, such as those caused by fungi.
In mice with arthritis, the group showed that genetic loss of MICL led to more severe disease due to the excessive formation of NETs. More severe disease also occurred in normal mice when antibodies targeting MICL were applied.
Indeed, more severe disease was also seen in human arthritis patients who possessed antibodies targeting MICL, and the researchers could directly show that these patient antibodies drove exacerbated inflammatory response, using cell samples in labs.
Senior author Professor Gordon Brown, from the University of Exeter, said, "We've been working on how immune cells sense their environment for over 20 years, and this breakthrough is really exciting, revealing how the inhibition of inflammatory processes is finely balanced between controlling infection and the development of autoimmune disease"

Hey so, I've been doing this for a while now (few years) but looking through your blog gave me some sudden concerns for my pokemon's diets (noibat and noivern, i live in paldea btw)
My bat buddies diet includes
-mixed assortment of berries for their fruits (cheri, pecha, oran, mago, apicot, and micle, specifically)
-scatterbug for protein
-on a few occasions, we share a sandwich with ham, they get more of the meat than bread.
Is this good? Pokemon center said they were all healthy at their recent checkup, but looking through this blog made me a little worried I wasn't giving them the right foods
aww bat buddies! it can be hard to provide for these guys, since there aren't always great commercial diets available for them.
the berry selection you've got there is great! i'd try adding some avocado and dates for the fat and extra fiber, but those are perfect for a noibat.
a little scatterbug is okay for both the noibat and the noivern, but noibat should eat a diet that's 95% fruit, and noivern need meat as well. their diet in the wild consists of a mix of bug types as well as small mammals such as pichu, meowth, and deerling, and sometimes bird pokemon they catch in the air. a noivern's diet should be about 70% meat, 20% bug, and 10% fruit.
i wouldn't give bread at all, since their digestive tract can't process it. a tiiiiiiny bit of ham as a treat for the noivern is okay every once in a while, but definitely not for the noibat- far too high in sodium. a good treat for the noibat would be a little bit of flower nectar; you can buy the kind marketed for oricorio. if you can get your hands on it, roseli berry is also a great treat for both of them
make sure you've got a mineral block for them to lick, and that's a great diet for your bats!

New Mewtube video! (Very much sponsored by Poké PopSoda, use Promo Code W1NNPC for a 10% discount on your next purchase of Poké PopSoda)
Please watch the video, I am going to be drinking and ranking EVERY single flavour of Poké PopSoda, (don't replicate what I just did, don't drink 80 large cans of Poké PopSoda in one day, the local Nurse Joy will not be happy) from Oran Oasis to Micle Miracle, I'm going to be kind of honest with this one.
[A link to a video titled "Drinking and ranking EVERY flavour of Poké PopSoda". In the thumbnail, there is a table which is filled with every single Poké PopSoda, Winn is chugging a large can of Poké PopSoda Cheri Charm flavour, and Alcremie is in the thumbnail, making a subtle expression that she's worried about Winn's health. In the video, Winn rated Micle Miracle at the very top, and Pinap Power at the very bottom. She makes a comment about hating Pinap berries, then saying "To all my freaks that love Pinap berries, I'm sorry, but your girl just can't." Alcremie is absolutely horrified at seeing her chugging 80 cans of sodas in one sitting.]

Looking at the old PMD-E flashes to transcribe into a google doc for later viewing (except for Mission 7 Epilogue 2 because I get an error with that one), and I just...
Did no one have a problem with this part when the flash came out??? I looked at whatever comments I could find on the page on web archive, and apparently not.
I checked the dates between this flash and when Glip illustrated the PK x Rhodes shit, and from what I could find, this flash was posted before that sus shit.
So, everyone just turned a blind eye on this.
Also, I noticed that Micle says "too". Is this fucking implying that, canonically, this sus shit runs in the family???
...
