I don't think we talk enough about how insanely persistent and intelligent Mia actually is. Like... I don't mean that she's the best archer. She's not "better" than Ollie, or Roy, or Connor. She's probably not "better" than Emiko or Cissie, either. I mean more that all of those people have been shooting for years -- literally since childhood, some almost from birth -- and Mia didn't even touch a bow for the first time until some nebulous point when she was 15. And she became Speedy officially almost right on her 17th birthday (within a week, give or take). Like, think about that? She went from completely untrained, likely in poor-to-fair health at best, to peak athleticism and keeping up with the greatest archers in the world in less than two years. While also juggling an undiagnosed major illness, playing catch-up with several years of lost education, and recovering from severe childhood trauma. She started much later than everybody else, and with significant barriers to her physical, mental, and emotional health, and still picked up a brand new skill and worked it to an almost superhuman level in a shockingly short amount of time.

That's actually a little bit insane. And it's a testament to both her determination to learn, and to Connor's abilities as a teacher. It's a shame we didn't really get to see him train her on-panel much. We got to see Mia training herself quite a bit -- which is important, because it drives home how hard she worked and how much iron-balled initiative she took with her own goals -- but her actual training with Connor and, later, Ollie was almost entirely off-panel. Anyway, let's give Mia Dearden credit for being the little phenom that she is.

I just love that according to the comics, Oliver gets so frequently stranded to places without shelter that he has learned to build one and has a trick arrow with a whole capsule house in it. I'm just wondering how this keeps happening to him. Like the rest of the family is one day like hey by the way, has any one of you seen Oliver? And Mia is like oh yeah he said that he was going fishing like....a few days ago. Oh fuck.

They end up tracking him down to some random remote island in the middle of nowhere and are like how did this happen? You took your little boat and went just a little bit off the shore! How did you get here? And Oliver is like ah you see, while I was fishing I saw some really suspicious looking guys on their boat and I followed them and figured that they were weapon smugglers so I took them out and made it to their ship and infiltrated it but the ship ended up exploding and I ended up floating around a bit before I managed to make up a raft from the debris and my grappling arrows and I used it to make my way here. Sorry I didn't call, I dropped my phone into the ocean at some point.

And his kids are just standing there like we really can't let you do anything by yourself huh.
