What if Polites and Odysseus protect the waters of Ithica from war ships by sinking their crew~ ok purr oh, and i'd imagine they'd travel the world at times as well hehhehehe ideas

I never actually thought it until now because I'm doing a re-read of Naruto, but there's just something about how Naruto's naïvety borders on arrogance whenever he tries to stop Sasuke from his goals. A lot of people say Sasuke's words about Naruto never having a family and being unable to comprehend Sasuke is rude or cruelly throwing Naruto's insecurities in his face... Yeah, his tone is aggressive, but it's true. Naruto can't comprehend what it's like to lose a family unit, let alone an entire clan. Him trying to say Sasuke severing their bond is comparable to Sasuke's loss is so laughable that it's insulting. He even later says, after Jiraiya dies, that now he's come closer to understanding Sasuke, meaning up until that point even he acknowledges his points were BS. Naruto trying to get Sasuke to equate whatever connection they have to that of his entire family and clan is bonkers. It's so frustrating that the only words I can think of to describe him are overly prideful and arrogant. And I don't see how practically no one, not other characters or the readers, ever calls him out on that, especially when his confrontation with the reality of Nagato's loss further highlighted that Naruto doesn't have an answer to problems/loss similar to Sasuke's and he can never understand.

naruto’s consistent arrogance throughout damn near the whole story is actually what makes me love him so much. it’s interesting, and the fact he’s 12-16 like damn it’s relatable too lol most teens are hella naive and arrogant and think the entire world works around what they know of it.

sasuke has always been super straightforward and to the point, haters like to call this rude but i like to call it autism 🙂‍↕️ haha for real though sasuke was never rude to him. sure sasuke and naruto do have lots of things in common, but naruto never firsthand experienced that loss, he was just born with it. i think a good way of explaining the difference between naruto and sasuke is that naruto is lonely, but sasuke is alone. so sasuke saw a kid running after him insisting they share the same pain when they don’t. even harsher than that this kid was running after him saying that they had a bond of brothers, which to sasuke would just be absolutely insulting. sasukes relationship with his brother is obviously incredibly complicated but even if it wasn’t the case and sasuke and itachi had a much less complicated relationship it’s still insulting to insinuate that naruto can be the replacement to the loneliness of his lost clan. naruto just doesn’t understand that nothing can ever replace a family member, let alone one that has caused you so much anguish, yet he insists that he does.

naruto seems to have two points in which he seems to have a revelation about sasukes loss. which is what you brought up with the death of jiraiya and then again he changes pace and understanding for sasuke when obito as tobi visits him, kakashi, and yamato and reveals the truth of what happened the night of the massacre. he no longer sees sasukes motives as unnecessary or maybe even an overreaction like he had previously. although he’ll never understand that part of sasuke on a personal level but he understands why sasuke is doing what he’s doing now. he borderline approves of what sasuke is doing, at the very least how he is feeling. he just won’t allow it and decides that he will die with sasuke is because he does love the village too much to let sasuke destroy it even though his ambition is righteous and understandable.

it’s around the point in which jiraiya dies that he starts his journey of losing that arrogance, and he stops believing that his bond with sasuke is equatable to that of being brothers. narutos character has a major period of change and development between the death of jiraiya and the revelation of itachi’s secret, before this point narutos character traits is that he is incredibly ignorant, naive and arrogant or rude. yet still sasuke points out that just because naruto has experienced these things doesn’t mean he now fully understands sasuke. despite growing so much naruto will always hold on to some of that arrogance or even entitlement that if he experiences enough, or learns enough about sasuke that he will understand sasuke on a personal level. yet i got booed when i pointed this out 🥱
