thinking about dragons in Dungeons and Dragons. on the Good/Neutral/Evil scale (obviously not a strict rule anymore) we have Metallic, Gem and Chromatic dragons. and then (not yet in 5e) on the Lawful end of the spectrum there鈥檚 Ferrous Dragons. but what would a Chaotic category of dragon be? from what i can find there isn鈥檛 one that currently exists as a counterpart to Ferrous, and i think that鈥檚 a shame

Portrait of my friend鈥檚 D&D character Wren. This is probably the angriest anyone has ever drawn her, I promise in game she鈥檚 real nice. A punch paladin of friendship and Bahamut, and the best friend you could ever ask for.

You know, it would actually make a lot of sense in a D&D setting for dragonborn to be more common than pure dragons, not because of horny bards, but because of horny male dragons! Because it takes way longer for dragons to reach maturity than humans, also if my experience with lovebirds is any indication, egg production of that size would probably leave most female dragons severely malnourished so, strictly by the numbers a female dragon would only be able to produce one egg every few decades at minimum but a male dragons would be able to sire dozens of offspring exponentially faster!

DND Dragon Redesigns
SO, apparently for the new rulebooks, WotC had someone redesign the 10 chromatic and metallic dragons. Article for Context. Am I the only one who hates this so much? Like, the designs aren't even bad (of the three we've seen so far), I'm just super attached to the old ones (particularly the red and gold dragon designs). I like the fishy elements of the new Bronze one, but IDK. I can remember being a little kid in like, 4th grade printing them off of D&D's website and making whole flip books of them. I would stare at them for hours. These dragon designs have been the standard by which I've measured all others since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I am beyond crushed they're getting rid of them. Someone tell me I'm not alone on this.

Weird DND Idea - Tarnished Metallic and Polished Chromatic Dragons.
Long story short, if a Dragon ends up turning, and this gets noticed by either Tiamat or Bahamut, a noticeable visual change occurrs.
Tarnished Metallics - More often than not tends to be Iron/Steel. When they turn from good and Bahamut, their scales' luster begins to dull. When Tiamat recognizes this, that's when they are considered "Tarnished." Copper and Bronze dragons start blackening, some even develop a patina, Iron/Steel dragons begin to rust, tarnish spots and discoloration, etc...
On the other hand, you have the Polished Chromatics. When they manage to overcome their inherent nature and stop worshipping Tiamat, their scales are noticeably brighter and more glossy, in a sense. Being recognized by Bahamut for their efforts results in their scales taking on the appearance of anodized metal.
