Mellanoid Slime Species Sheet (Draft)

Mellanoids were very uncommon in Starfleet following first contact in 2360 and joining the Federation during the Dominion War in 2373. Most mellanoids in space careers joined the United Mellanus Space Program. (see also: Mellanoid Space Exploration) Felime Trox was an NCO during the Dominion War. Eaurp Guz was the first to be an officer in 2379, and there's only a small handful of other mellanoids in Starfleet. As of the 2380s a few more are trickling in each year.

In the late 2390s and the 2400s, Mellanus Space Program gets essentially integrated into starfleet, and Mellanoids start absolutely pouring into starfleet.

Mellanoids have differing consistency depending upon emotional state. They may get softer when sad or tired, or bouncy when startled. They may become drippy when anxious. Even intense positive emotion can lead to melting sometimes. The default texture is like a somewhat tough jello, jiggly but not sticky and with no residue left behind. When very sad they are capable of crying, with the sclera of their eyes melting alongside other parts of their face and body. In addition to losing cohesion with strong emotional state or sleepiness, Mellanoids can voluntarily liquify and move as a liquid, and even accomplish a limited degree of shapeshifting in this amorphous state. When sleeping or otherwise unconscious, mellanoids will melt into their amorphous form, and either spread thin so they can absorb air through their body, or if they're sleeping in a padded tub, they will manifest lung-foam on the top surface to continue to take in air into their body.

N.B.: Mellanoid consistency and physics is also just kinda whatever works! They're cartoon characters from an animated cartoon and fanart for another animated cartoon. If it feels right, it probably is right, even if it contradicts something I've said in the previous paragraph. The whole point of slimegirl emotional consistency to me is that it is a visual symbolism for how strong emotions can feel--if you feel like you're falling apart then that's what you will look like, if your heart melts you're literally melting, if you feel tense and rigid then you'll be tough and rubbery. And doubtless different mellanoids can be more capable or less capable of not just emotional regulation, but hiding the visible extent of these emotions.

Here is a reference sheet showing variation in existing Mellanoid Slime characters, and also a warp ship and a steam engine for reasons which are unlikely to become clear again soon. NB: following image contains drawings by myself, Ray Daly, and James, as well as a few screenshots of Star Trek Prodigy. Names which are not native mellanoid names are put in quotes.

The bioluminescence here is exaggerated so you can see it--it would really be much much more subtle, to the point that it might be difficult to even see it as colored light.

Nymbamphan (axolotl) Species Sheet

Clothing options take inspiration from traditional Japan or can even just be kimono or jinbei. Typically, you’re going to want to give them lighter clothing due to the warmer climate of the Nymbampha Cove. Here’s one of my Nymbamphan characters to get an idea of some of the clothing options

Even though he is royalty, Nambi prefers wearing “commoner” clothing rather than the more extravagant kinds. The only thing indicative of his actual status is the gemstone in his whisker band.

Also this took waaaaayyyyyy too long to make. I’m so glad this is finally done :D

alien physiology and small culture tidbits (transcript under the cut)

page 1: highly sensitive eyes (very shiny). [referring to hand diagram, picturing a hand with two thumbs] double the thumbs, double the musical capabilities. [referring to antennae and eyes] extra sensitive to sound + light (picks up more wavelengths). long, prehensile tongue used for both tasting + smelling (and also affection). two rows of 'teeth' (exoskeletal).

page 2: blinking is almost diagonal. long tail for balance + support. [referring to quadrupedal mode] quadrupedal (hunting, climbing terrain). music is very important culturally as well as other forms of art (due to hearing + vision sensitivity). neck/spine has big range of motion. bones are more similar to cartilage-- flexible, yet sturdy, takes a lot of force to break.

page 3: body language as a form of communication. skin sheds once yearly-- 'year' is equal to about 8 months in Earth time. different years have different seasons. summer/winter = 6 months, fall/spring = 2 months. planet climate is mostly cold though only mildly so in most regions-- some regions are extremely frigid. [referring to aliens] though they are resistant to extreme cold, they tend to enjoy warmth and will huddle together when sleeping.

page 4: written language is similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics. [referring to language] very angular, as most of their earlier writings were on rocks/slates. [referring to aliens] most of body is soft excluding teeth and spikes. combo exo- and endo-skeleton. bones from inside for plates/extrude on hard regions (coloration remains the same (shifting)). communicate in squeaks, chirps, clicks, growls, and hisses. culture is very science-based, values learning and expression. incredibly intelligent species-- finds no use for clothing, however.

page 5: sex organs are internal (similar to a cloaca). only one sex (contains both sperm and eggs). hatchlings are soft + squishy as their bones have not fully hardened until a week after hatching. self-fertilization is possible, though takes more time than sexual reproduction (only marginally, can be sped up with medical assistance). hearing is impaired for a short period after hatching. 'pods' contain embryo which develop for ~4 months before hatching. pods that are deformed/premature may have embryo removed and relocated in artificial pods that will provide nutrients and supplements.

page 6: individuals will often hold pillows to simulate the feeling of nestmates. they will nest together in large groups of up to 6. nesting provides warmth, comfort, and protection from predators. it is done both indoors and outdoors. [referring to aliens] not a hivemind. both community and individuality are valued. most have similar ideals and goals, and so forming a tight-knit community is not difficult. any members left out will be accommodated for and helped to fit in or find their own community.

ID start: A digital picture of a fictional species that resembles mushrooms and canines in its body build. There are three specimens. The largest white one with earthy undertones and brown teeth and eyes is rearing on his back feet and bearing its teeth. It has a short tail resembling the rim of a mushroom and multiple, long whisker-like appendages on its face. The middle one is slender and long with a long, frilly tail. It resembles an ink cap, with black goo coming from under its frills. It has two long antennae-like appendages on its face. The last one is the smallest, stubby little creature with orange and light yellow colouration. It has faint stripes, two pairs of long whisker-like appendages on its face right above the eyes, and vaguely resembles chicken of the woods. They're shown on a blurry forest background, with a height comparison to an adult human at the top left corner. The biggest one reaches mid-chest when rearing up on its hind legs, the smallest one reaches mid-shins, and the medium one reaches the knees. End ID.

Tchaiaters

Made a species sheet for these guys! I've never made a species sheet before so hopefully it's alright.

The name 'tchaiater' is, like Heietn (high-ah-tin - name of the planet tchaiaters live on), an etymological mystery. Linguists can't trace to where the word began, it's been there since the earliest texts.

Tchaiaters evolved from arboreal felines. They have digitigrade legs, walk upright, and have prehensile tails. They're a very diverse species with much genetic variation and come in a large range of colors. Tchaiaters are capable of complex vocalizations and have fine motor skills. They can hear at a little bit above a human level, and see in the dark better than humans. They are naturally inclined to being most active during the hours before the sun sets and after it rises, sleeping through the nights and napping when the sun is highest in the sky.

Tchaiaters are most commonly male and female. There are instances of intersex tchaiaters, as well as hermaphrodites- they are separate phenomena.

Tchaiaters aren't hugely sexually dimorphic. There isn't a huge difference in testosterone levels, it's just that females have more estrogen and progesterone than males. It's not entirely uncommon for female tchaiaters to grow facial and chest hair naturally, and their voices tend to be about as deep as males' voices. Females' tails are thicker on average than males' tails.

Also this species is completely open. I plan to write many books using the species but I would probably cry from happiness if I saw someone make an oc of them so. Go crazy just tag me if you do!!! Rahhhh
