It's been a while since I've done bullet points for verse info, but I've been thinking about my Westworld season 1 AU so naturally the brain rot is setting in and I wanna hyperfixate on it.
The What If Caleb Was In Westworld S1? AU
Caleb winds up in possession of an obscene amount of wealth by saving Mr. Whitman's life and in an effort to find something to do with even just a fraction of the money he'll never use, he learns about Westworld.
Aa per canon lore, black hats and white hats are by far the most popular choice among the human guests, typically categorizing them into one of two roles.
Color theory and symbolism in the western hemisphere often dictates that the color white represents purity, innocence, light, and/or heroism as traditionally "good" traits whereas black is often chosen to represent power, darkness, death, mourning, and/or villainy as traditionally "bad" traits.
These are of course not the ONLY color hat a guest is permitted to wear. There are hosts and some background guests seen wearing brown hats or gray hats.
Brown hats and gray hats are naturally more "neutral" options than black hat or white hat. They represent a tendency to make impulsive decisions that happen in the moment. In color theory, brown often symbolizes a neutral but more earthy connection to the world around you. Gray is often chosen to represent an option directly in-between black and white, sometimes thought to be "boring"
Caleb would likely wear a brown or gray hat. I almost wanna say he'd go hatless because that is what he does in the 20s-themed knockoff park but. Cmon, playing cowboy without a hat is like. blasphemous?? So he really should have a hat. So I’m giving him one.
Caleb's outfits resemble Marty McFly's from Back to the Future Part III. Marty's clothes in turn vaguely resembled Clint Eastwood from the Man With No Name Trilogy.
I'm not 100% committed to this idea but. Young William takes on a bounty hunt for Slim Grant during the Past Timeline. Caleb could *maybe* take on the bounty for Hector Escaton in the Present Timeline. Ultimately, he'd probably forego collecting the bounty and let Hector and Armistice go. Tenderloin and the one other bandit whose name I don't remember are still gonna die tho.

Monster hunter rise is the only video game i own that makes me actually boil with rage to the point of bashing on my desk and controller.
This game is genuine toxin to my body.
[Rant about Rise being poorly designed below, if you're the type who whines whenever people rightfully criticize Rise just don't bother]
I can vastly handle games being difficult, what i can't handle is games being poorly balanced. If a game is too difficult for me, i just don't play it and maybe try later, the problem with Sunbreak is that the endgame isn't difficult, it's piss easy 90% of the time, but then you get specific monsters that are just pure artificial difficulty.
I would rather be given a shock collar that activates once for every tick of damage Alatreon does to me in Iceborne (including escaton judgement) over having to fight Primordial Malzeno again.
At least Alatreon has a very clear gimmick and vastly compensates for it by being somewhat easy to predict after only a few tries which gives room for experimenting with builds.
Primordial Malzeno hits Extremely hard, is Very fast, has SEVERAL pinning moves, a very cheap ult that happens AFTER A PINNING MOVE, and combos that last for an eternity where you're just supposed to dodge and wait. As a HH user, i get almost no opportunity to properly use Silkbind Shockwave without being immediately punished afterwards because the HH silkbind moves give you way too many frames of vulnerability, as if the Rise devs hadn't ruined the HH enough from the start.
And it also doesn't help my case that a lot of things are done to counter people who overuse the wirebug dodge, in a shitty design decision where a lot of monster have plenty of their attacks designed to do several ticks of damage to make sure flighty players get caught, making it a fucking nightmare for people like me who only do regular dodging.
I don't even understand why Primordial gets to be this hard hitting, it's not a black dragon, it's an average elder dragon that honestly isn't really that interesting when you compare it to regular Malzeno or Nergigante or, dare i say even Velkhana, a monster that i genuinely hate the design of, but is vastly more integral to the world of Monster Hunter. It just, shows up randomly, like so many things in SB do. It has no ecology background, no lore, no buildup, nothing, it's just, there, because Malzeno needed a different form to compensate for the gaping lack of content.
I wanted to play to relax and decided to get back in Rise to grind because i've pretty much completed everything there was to do in IB and i still don't have Risen Shagaru in SB, but every time i turn this game back on i remember why i never fucking play it. It's not fun, it's draining, it's a chore, and a single failed quest is a massive waste of time in what is already a grindy hellscape.

May I ask why you think Alatreon is better than Fatalis ?
(Just want to say first that this is purely a matter of opinion. Fatalis is still pretty great in his own right, I just don’t enjoy him myself in the way others may)
(Alatreon was difficult to start out with because the details of its fight and Escaton weren’t explained properly. Once I got those figured out, it’s fight was rather fun. It’s attacks were learnable and none of them dealt an overwhelming amount of damage other than maybe his Dragon blast. They were still dangerous, but not completely overwhelming. The race to deal enough elemental damage is challenging but in a good way. I’ve actually refought him to help others despite having all the materials I need because I actually enjoy fighting him. The only issue is randoms online still using Raw or Blast weapons.)
(Fatalis on the other hand, I see as somewhat of the opposite. His Super Flames are easier to handle than Escaton and definitely have some cinematic punch to them, but I personally think Escaton looks better aesthetically. In exchange for that though, practically every single attack of his takes about fucking half of your health even with full Defence skills and max upgraded armor. He’s also got the biggest healthpool in the entire game, and you’re expected to lower it while trying not to get one-shot in a time limit barely longer than a Seige fight. He may be canonically one of the dangerous monsters in existence, but I don’t think exchanging a fun fight for the sake of completely living up to that name was the right thing to do. If his attacks dealt less damage, I believe I would be able to actually enjoy fighting him. It’s a good thing I making my Hunter avoid making the armor for lore reasons because when I finally beat him, there’s no way I’m going back.)

> All melee attacks nullify your element
> Gotta focus on the horns or else it'll swap to another element and good luck with that if you're a melee user and/or you're all outta flash pods.
> If it swaps to another element, you're fucked because then you're going to die to Escaton no matter what because no fucking Farcasting back to camp to swap out.
> Can't Farcast at all, a simple block during Escaton could've worked just as well but no, you're fucked out of it entirely because "muh difficulty".
> This thing is also extremely aggressive with equally precise attacks so good fucking luck trying to get off an elemental combo playing solo without the Shieldspire equipped. (Dragonblight for days.)
I think so much pain and bullshit could have been avoided if they just gave you the ability to swap weapons in the event of failure to break the horns.
Of course the demanding amount of element and preparedness you need for this quest is fucking ridiculous anyways. I don't care how lore accurate it is to get floored by Alatreon, the amount of grinding I had to do to just be capable of fighting him is obscene, who thought it was a good idea to make him this way?
Fuck, Escaton should've just been a thing where, as the fight goes on Alatreon gets more powerful. Stronger elemental shit, more aggressive attacks, all that. But Elemental damage powers him down, rather than the shitty, arbitrary "yes or no" insta-death ability. Better design and encourages the same level of aggression as the actual Escaton.
Alatreon is literally impossible to fight, I think this thing is just the absolute worst designed monster in the entirety of Iceborne.
Fuck whoever decided this thing, that needs to be attacked with Elemental damage, should have all of it's attacks inflict you with dragonblight, an affliction that COMPLETELY NULLIFIES YOUR ELEMENTAL DAMAGE.
This wouldn't be so bad of a problem IF YOU DIDN'T NEED TO BE PUMPING ELEMENTAL DAMAGE INTO THIS THING EVERY FUCKING SECOND BECAUSE OF ESCATON JUDGEMENT.
