Hikers are seen in the distance at the Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park, California. This rugged desert landscape holds the world's record for the hottest air temperature—134°F in 1913. Tourists still flock here to experience the blistering heat.

Fresh Ideas for Travel in Death Valley National Park
flickr
Fresh Ideas for Travel in Death Valley National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the northeast while taking in views across dune ridges to more distant ridges and peaks of the Amargosa Range. This is in Death Valley National Park at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. With this image, I decided to use the formations to my front and the way the dune ridge curved around with the creosote bushes on one side, and then sand on the other. I liked how the mountains were a contrast in both colors, as well as setting, to the sands around me.

here are my other images du jour; the entire park was windy as fuck but i almost was knocked over by it at ubehebe crater (which automatically made it my favorite visit of the day). i also took some pics of the mesquite dunes but they were. hmm. bad.
driving out of the park, i saw the funniest sign that i sadly didn't get a pic of - "BIG DUNE" with an arrow. i looked where the arrow was pointing and sure enough. the biggest sand dune i personally have ever seen, easily 2x+ the size of the largest of the mesquite dunes. big dune. fuck, it sure is, buddy.
