A SIGN OF AFFECTION.
Tumblr media
Because even if silence would rule her life without her aid, he fills it with sunshine and smiles.
ft. Yatonokami Kanata, Hajun Yeon, Ando Shiki, Kanbayashi Yokei x fem! reader.
cw/genre: fluff, very, very, mild angst.
Hello nonnie ! I’m so sorry this took so long to post… I know you requested it on my old blog, thank you for liking my aesthetic there <3 It’s late, but merry christmas to you as well, I hope this new year brings you lots of love, health and joy !
Tumblr media
ଓ YATONOKAMI KANATA
— At first, he’s a little surprised.
— Why is it that your little sister stares up at him in wonder, of all people?
— She’s a lucky child, after all. She can live in a clean house and she has you as her older sister, so why does she seem so entranced by him?
— “This is my little sis, Kanata.” You introduce her, your hands on her shoulders. “She can’t hear by herself, but she uses these headphones, they’re magical, right little princess?” You tell your sister, bopping her nose.
— She giggles, while nodding enthusiastically.
— “Hmh! I can listen to my big sister’s boyfriend with these! Kanata’s music is the best!” She claims, happily.
— Your lover’s lavender gaze widens when he hears that.
— That exact phrase is what Nayuta always told him.
— A chuckle leaves his lips, as he pats the girl’s head (even if a little awkwardly).
— “So you like Cozmez that much?” Kanata asks your sister.
— She takes a few seconds to answer, the sound processing for her in her headset.
— “Mhm! Cozmez is the coolest! Kanata and Nayuta are the best! Also, is it true you can breakdance, onii-chan?”
— At that, Kanata blushes. Both at the question and at the term she used to refer to him.
— “I-uh… yeah.” He finally manages.
— You chuckle, taking your sister by the hand.
— “Hey, hey, Kanata is a little shy, alright, sweetheart? Give him a little time to warm up.” You explain.
— She nods, while your boyfriend’s blush intensifies. You’re so precious taking care of your sister, he almost can’t handle it. If you keep this up, he feels like his heart will burst with so much cuteness.
— From that day on, your younger sister starts wanting to hang out with you and Kanata every time you meet up with him.
— And so, your dates end up involving her in one way or another.
— Listening to Cozmez at Kanata’s apartment as she tries to dance to the beat of the songs; taking her to eat ice cream, ramen or cake at cute cafes; petting the neighborhood cats, or reading books to her.
— And to your boyfriend, these moments are worth so much.
— Taking care of her together, with her giggles and your soft laughter filling the air… It feels as if finally beams of rainbow are added into the sunshine you shed into his life.
— Kanata is also very protective of her.
— Because she thinks he’s so cool, your sister tends to follow Kanata around.
— And we all know how dangerous it can be for a little girl like her to wander alone around the slums.
— So your partner always makes sure to spot her right away, taking her by the hand and bringing her back home.
— She is safe, but she doesn’t escape your scolding, even if she hides behind Kanata.
ଓ HAJUN YEON
— Charms your little sister almost instantly.
— With his good looks and permanent smile, who could resist him, huh? (That is, before you know about his sadistic side /lh).
— “Big sister! You’re dating a prince!” She says, eyes sparkly and wide, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
— You and Hajun let out a laugh, amused at her innocent enthusiasm.
— “Does that mean you’re a princess, onee-san?” Your baby sister inquires. “And does that make me one too?”
— You give her a bright smile.
— “Of course you are a princess too, baby.” You say. “You have this magical crown that allows you to hear, do you not, sweetie? I think a fairy must be guarding you too.”
— Your boyfriend smiles. Not his usual fabricated grins, but a sincere one this time.
— “Your sister is right, young lady.” He adds, taking the girl’s hand in his. “You two are princesses, so it is my honor to finally meet my lover’s precious sister.”
— “Woah… You’re really a prince!” The girl in question cheers, enchanted by him and all the attention she’s getting.
— Thanks to her headphones, your sister can hear BAE’s songs, and of course, her bias is Hajun (she adores the whole trio though).
— Anne is like an older sibling to her as well, and Allen is like… uh, the silly uncle that’s really cool when singing.
— Whenever you and Hajun go out together on a date, your sister stays with the other two.
— Anne does her hair and dresses her up, while Allen plays music for her and they all dance together.
— It’s really precious, going back to Hajun’s apartment and finding laughter filling the space and the people you love having such a good time.
— However, because she’s enchanted with your lover, your sister has taken to following Hajun around sometimes.
— She peeks from behind the kitchen’s door, observing attentively while he cooks.
— “Hmm… I have the feeling someone’s watching…” Hajun announces, the little one’s giggles perfectly audible. “I wonder whether this princess would like to help me make dinner?”
— To what she emerges from her hiding spot, running to bury her face into Hajun’s apron.
— Unbeknownst to them, you were watching the scene with a dopey smile on your face.
— You go to wash your hands. You’ll join them in a minute.
ଓ ANDO SHIKI
— Now if someone is shocked to be thought of as cool, that is definitely Shiki.
— He’s been called gloomy before, and he doesn’t really have a very positive opinion about himself.
— So for your sister to admire him and look at him in wonder… That is certainly a new feeling.
— And at first, he can’t deny he’s scared. Because what if, once she gets to know him, she finds out he’s uncool or boring?
— Besides, someone whose hands are stained in blood due to the sin he’ll never forgive himself for… He doesn’t deserve that kindness.
— So at first, he runs away from this, like he’s been doing his whole life.
— You miss him.
— And your sister notices your boyfriend seems to avoid her, so she gets sad.
— “Is it because I need special headphones to hear?” She asks you one day, eyes teary. “Is that because Shiki can never meet with you, big sis?”
— “No, no, it’s nothing like that.” You hold her in your arms. “Shiki is very shy, so he has trouble making new friends, but I’m sure he'll be happy to meet you, once he calms down. He gets nervous easily, you know? Give him a little bit more time.” You tell your younger sister, squatting to be eye level with her, as you wrap her in a hug.
— “Tell you what, why don’t we drop by Shiki’s workplace while he’s there? I’ll introduce you. You’re a fan of his group, after all.”
— And so, that’s exactly what you do.
— You are aware a bar is not the most suitable place for a kid, but you trust all the guys there. They take good care of Shiki, after all.
— The little girl hides behind you as you greet everyone. And, somehow, Ryuu’s the one to bring her out of her shell.
— “Wow wow! You have very cool headphones! Ryuu wants a pair too! Aaw mini [Y/n]-chan is so cute!”
— “I use these to hear!” She giggles at the funny faces TCW’s peculiar member makes. “I love The Cat’s Whiskers! Shiki is my favorite!” She says, waving her hands.
— Your partner lets out a strangled yelp, almost dropping a glass he was drying.
— “Come on, Shiki.” You invite him, softly, with a tender smile on your face. “She’s really looking forward to meeting you, you know.”
— “H-hello, there.” He greets her, awkwardly rising a hand for her to high five.
— She does so, with a “Yay! I’m a fan of Shiki!”
— The latter lets out a laugh; a precious sound few got to hear, the rays towards which sunflowers turn.
— Maybe it was alright, that she thinks he’s worth meeting.
ଓ KANBAYASHI YOHEI
— Flustered at first, but then he softens up and is actually one of the most caring.
— Your sister is a little shy around him at first, despite her admiration for him.
— She’s seen him on tv, and, thanks to her prescription headphones, she’s heard his vocals on stage. She really thinks he’s so cool… But Yohei looks so serious…
— “Onee-san, is your boyfriend angry?” She asks, tugging on your clothes.
— “Wha-“ Bar 7/4’s master utters, amber eyes widening in shock.
— Saimon lets out a chuckle from behind the counter.
“Yohei, I think you should drop that frown a little.” He tells his junior, good naturedly.
— The latter sighs.
— “Hello there, little one.” Your lover greets the girl, as he crouches down to her level. “Would you like to listen to some music?”
— She nods vigorously, her small fists clenched in front of her in anticipation.
— Yohei rewards her with a smile. Then he sits at the bar’s piano.
— As his deft fingers slide over the keys, a sweet melody fills the space, your sister holding her breath as she listens intently.
— Then, she walks towards the piano, watching closer how this mesmerizing melody is brought to life.
— Your partner stops playing momentarily, offering her a kind smile.
— “You want to try too?” He asks her.
— “Yes!” She affirms, as her little hands hover over the keys.
— The bar’s master helps her sit on the bench, as he gently places her fingers over the keys.
— “Here, don’t be afraid. Try here, press it softly. Yes, that’s good!” He compliments her, as a note echoes through the room.
— As you watch the scene, you can imagine the three of you in a spacious apartment, sitting in front of a piano; sunlight streams through the windows, almost like lines of a music score you’re writing in this idyllic moment.
— Despite the cold, the warmth of your lover and your sister by your side keeps you comforted, the sunny melody, a caress for your heart.

As soon as the rumored ‘Ice King’ of Sapporo was returning from his trip to England, he was now greeting with the weirdly light atmosphere at his workplace instead of the tense one he used to receive back before he went to visit his family overseas.
What just happened to my company when I’m not around?
—That was the thought that the oldest heir of Kuraokami had in his head when he finally reached his usual spot in his room.
Not much later, he was then informed by his assistant that there was some mysterious package sent to the company with his name addressed on it. The assistant told him that at first it was normally destined to be rejected but because of a certain someone who vouched for the sender wasn’t really just someone to overlook
—That’s why the thing ended up in front of him right now.
Confirmed by his assistant that it was neither some prank nor kind of harm to him, the oldest heir of Kuraokami then cautiously opened it up as he didn’t know what’s inside of this colorful box submitted by the anonymous.
And what he just found inside the overly colorful box was…
Tumblr media
A gorgeous wool scarf in the shape of a red dragon!
There was also a cute note in pink color put inside the box;
“To Yuki Kuraokami-san of Sapporo
Hello, greetings, and merry Christmas! The weather has turned kinda cold lately and some warm scarf would be the great choice to give during this winter, wouldn’t it?
Hehe~ I knitted this with the inspiration from the Red Dragon of Wales in mind, hoping that the great King Arthur would enjoy the company of this little guy during the harsh time of infinite coldness.
Have a wonderful holiday!
—Your Secret Santa from Nara Division
P.S. Gotta apologize for some kind of my arbitrary act under your name. The fact was I did intend to send you some Yule logs I made but the staff told me that you went to England around the time I arrived. So, I just tell your staffs that you had ordered the cakes for them as some thanks for their hard work all throughout this year instead. They looked kinda happy though.”
❖ Somehow at the Ajisai Residence in Nara ❖
“Are you sure that Hi-chan won’t be scared by Kuraokami-san’s aura? I think he isn’t that good with strangers?”
“Hah, don’t you dare underestimate your buddy you damn brat! Asahi-kun was surely something else.”
“…What makes you so sure about it? I recalled that many people said they wanted to stay away from Kuraokami-san just because of his piercing and icy-cold stare.”
“Hmm? You don’t seem to be scared of him though.”
“…Of course, but other people still do! And one of those reasons I am not afraid of Kuraokami-san is because I know another ‘winter’ who was way a lot meaner than him.”
“Hey, watch your mouth. Do you think you were insulting who? … And do you really think that just being ‘somebody’ can literally have a nerve to put this thing on me?”
Aside from the weird-looking but comfy cat scarf wrapping around the red-haired boy’s neck and the bright yellow scarf over the old attendant named Chishio’s shoulder, there was one more weird scarf snuggling around the ex-tycoon’s neck
—It was a rainbow unicorn scarf obviously knitted by hand. No wonder that the all high and mighty Saigo of the prestigious Fuyugami family was currently added to the victim(?) list of a certain wagashi artist’s weird scarf edition.
“To be honest, it is instead that kid who scares me the most…”
“Pfft… This serves you right, old man. That’s your penalty for not telling him what is your favorite color.”
Right now it seems like the said Secret Santa was still at his family store, busying himself with the unstoppable influx of customers in the festive mood of Christmas ;)
When he saw the scarf, as always he kept his stern face which he couldn’t express himself right infront of the assistant as if he doesn’t know what to feel but what he can say atleast is he’s delighted to receive such nice gifts and genuinely likes to wear dragon scarf right now to feel like King Arthur received a reward from slaying a dragon.
“So…What do you think?” He asked the assistant with curiosity
“it looks good on you, sir”
“This handmade scarf has a nice and soft scaly touch to my skin as if there’s a baby dragon wrapping around my neck. Say, assistant. Wouldn’t be great idea if dragons were existed and use it to be as our mascot?”
“S-sir forgive my rudeness but…if that happens, the dragon would’ve done more trouble like setting it on fire in our business”
“I guess you’re right…but I could able to tamed it though”
“Hahaha……oh by the way, Mr. Kuraokami. I wanted to to say thank you so much for the cakes. All of us were very happy with your kind gesture. Everyone here is going to do their best for the company!”
“Huh? o-oh yes. My pleasure, it’s indeed Christmas after all. You of all people deserve a reward after all the hard work you’ve done and I do must apologize for my uptight attitude towards you”
“N-no no! we’re just glad we worked here, you were just doing your job as our boss. At least some of us, including myself knows, sir. You are our great boss”
“I see……well carry on with your work then”
“Understood” they bow and left Yuki’s office
“and Merry Christmas…” he whispered softly
“Did you say something sir?”
“Nothing, off you go”
The assistant walk hurriedly away to do what their boss says while thinking back, they could’ve sworn they heard “merry christmas” right from Yuki’s mouth. Either it’s their imagination or he’s embarrassing to say it out loud. While on Yuki’s side, it reminds him that the next time he meets up with his secret Santa in person from Nara, he wanted to give thanks to the real sender for the cake and probably also tell them not to use his name next time. This is the rare time that he feels bad about himself LOL
— thanks for the gift and Merry Christmas! 🎄❤️

Memorial 6 - The Customs of Foreign Countries
The streets come alive as Japan moves into the month of December.
Everything is decorated for Christmas, even the music that plays is suited for the holiday.
“No matter how many years go by, this custom continues to elude me…”
I'll never understand the concept of celebrating the birthday of a god I do not worship.
I do ostensibly imitate prayers during ceremonies and other rituals, despite not believing.
This custom, however, was something unlike anything else.
My job now completely revolves around Christmas.
In a business where everything is prepared ahead of time, I can't even begin to count how many times I have wished a "Merry Christmas" over the past month or so.
…I’m fed up.
I should have taken a cab instead of walking through downtown.
Rejecting the fliers presented to me one after another, I hurried home.
I suddenly paused in front of a show window.
Laid-out at the center of a Christmas Tree themed display was a bag advertised as being a “Christmas Exclusive!”.
“Exclusive, huh…”
I recognized that little bag, so small that I doubted it had any practical use.
This was featured in a program I recorded just a while ago. It was listed as the most desired gift this year in our viewer survey.
How incredibly pointless.
People should get what they want on their own.
“It’s so annoying.”
I scowled, recalling a conversation that had occurred earlier today in the dressing room.
“G'morning everyone! Christmas is finally on the horizon! So how about getting some party catering from Kotobuki Bento? We're taking advance orders nowー!”
Kotobuki, often annoying, was exceptionally rowdy today.
He spreads a flier from his bento shop in front of us despite the disinterest, and announces something silly like getting three extra karaage if you reserve early.
“I said no. What connection does Christmas have to bento anyway?”
“What are you talking about! Christmas is a time to enjoy chicken! And there’s no chicken quite like karaage~!”
“Never heard of such a thing. Regardless, I have no intention of having a Christmas party. I won't be celebrating some foreign god's birthday.”
“Birthday…? Ah, I guess that’s true! The way you think’s hilarious, Myu-chan.”
I don't see what's so funny, but Kotobuki chuckles.
“In fact, you don't even believe in this God, do you?”
“Oh, man. You take the oddest things so seriously. Let me put it this way. Birthdays are happy occasions for everyone, so by celebrating, you, me, and God will all be happy.”
“Kotobuki bento are happy with these increases in sales… is what you want to say.”
“Exactly. We appreciate your support!.”
With a dramatic bow and a grin on his face, Kotobuki slipped the flier into my hand.
I could do nothing but sit there and take it.
I looked at my hand, dumbfounded.
…This is why you can never be too careful with this guy.
Now that I accepted the flier, I had no other option but to put it in my pocket and urge him to leave if he was done, but Kotobuki would not budge.
“...What.”
“Well? What are you going to give to Kouhai-chan?”
He inquired with a suggestive look on his face.
“What are you on about?”
“Oh, come on… Don’t act dumb. Aren’t you two dating? Christmas is a pretty big deal.”
“...Hmph.”
I wonder just who in the world told him. Was it Tsukimiya? Aijima?
They have put me in a tricky situation with a tricky guy.
“There isn’t a need. Why would I be giving her anything?”
“Wow.”
Kotobuki was unable to speak for a few moments, then repeated the exact same word.
“Wow.”
“...Out with it.”
Kotobuki scratched at his head, looking somewhat worried, and then sat down on the chair beside me.
…Who told him he could do that.
“Did you know I don't dislike the fact that you don't let your others influence the way you live your life? That being said, I think she's probably looking forward to it.”
“Hmph. If that woman is expecting to receive a handout from me, she's an idiot.”
Kotobuki let out an unusual sigh.
“If you know so much about Japan, then surely you also know a lot about Christmas, don't you, Myu-chan?”
“Of course I do. I know everything there is to know about this country.”
“Wonderful. Then you know why women have such high hopes, right? That what they want is not a thing, but a sentiment.”
“I don’t…”
“Ah, is it a bit hard to follow?”
“What are you talking about? Of course I get what you’re saying, but…”
“It's your first Christmas together, no? Women may not act like they care, but inside they're really excited about it.
“And I have no doubt you do know this, Myu-chan.” He added, pandering.
“Women want to be told they’re loved, whereas for guys, during occasions like this it’s a little hard to say without feeling a little shy. I think this would be a wonderful chance to let her know.”
“...It doesn’t matter to me.”
“Seriously?”
The way he looked at me ticked me off.
“On a day where it’s normal for everyone else to share their feelings, it's quite sad when you're the only one who doesn't.”
“...”
“Of course, you don't have to exactly say "I love you," but instead express the gratitude you can't normally convey. Ah, isn't it out of place to ask this of a couple of lovebirds?”
I wonder if I am thinking too much into the way he just ended that sentence.
I can’t read Kotobuki after all.
“...I’ll give it some thought.”
I probably shouldn't dwell on the topic too much.
Kotobuki gave me a big grin at my curt reply.
“Okayー! Make sure you pick a good present. One overflowing with your love!”
The weird way he poses with his fingers in a heart shape makes way for an astounding headache.
“You've wasted my time. Don't speak to me any more.”
“So cruel!”
“Ridiculous.”
I muttered to myself in front of the shop window and drove the memory out of my head.
We are not a couple.
I’ve never heard of masters gifting their servants.
“To show appreciation, huh? Well, I’m certainly being taken care of.”
No, I pay her well, if anything, I'm the one taking care of her.
Although…
Still, this bag’s design is actually surprisingly sophisticated when viewed in person like this.
And the price…
It may be a bit cheap, but for the average person, that would probably be for the best to avoid feeling bad when receiving it.
I noticed different colors arranged within the store, and headed inside to get a better look.
“Hmm… I wonder if they have one in white.”
The simplicity of this bag suits the shape better than the Christmas exclusive one shown up front.
And yet, the people in this country apparently find value in exclusives.
“Welcome. Is this a gift for your wife?”
“!?”
I was abruptly addressed and when I whirled around, the store staff, who had snuck up on me, yelped and froze in place.
...I didn't mean to look so frightening.
I glanced at the mirror beside me, unsure myself what it was that I looked like.
…Oh.
“My sincere apologies. I was simply startled to be approached out of the blue.”
I composed myself and flashed her a soft smile, and the shop staff smiled, too, as if relieved.
“Those are very popular. Please feel free to take a closer look if you would like.”
“There’s no need…. I came in just out of curiosity. I think I will pass on that for today.”
I got myself out of the store as fast as possible.
Seriously, what was I doing….
I open the front door and as always, am greeted by my dog and my servant.
“Welcome back. A package has arrived for you.”
“Thanks...”
I ultimately made it back home without buying anything.
“I’ll have dinner ready shortly.”
She smiled and headed to prepare for dinner.
I find myself feeling somewhat torn watching her receding back.
No, it’s fine.
There is still time before Christmas…
…Wait. I still haven’t committed to getting her a gift.
I took the package from the table, exasperated with myself, and headed for the stairs to go up to my bedroom.
“...This is ridiculous.”
She is a servant.
Besides, that girl has so many friends and acquaintances that I'm certain she will receive plenty of gifts regardless of whether I do or don’t.
Nonsense.
There’s a live show on Christmas. I should focus on my work instead.
And even if I didn’t, there are still many things I have to do.
I have to deal with them one at a time…
I set up communications lines with my home country, instructing Alexander to keep a lookout.
I cannot afford to be careless with all the recent unrest regarding Her Majesty.
It didn't take long before a subordinate answered my call and provided me with the briefing I'd ordered.
“I see…. Well, then, continue on with the investigation.”
“Understood. May I ask, Camus-sama, whether your parcel was successfully delivered?”
I glanced at the package beside him as he spoke.
Upon cutting the seal and opening the box, the light from the ceiling causes the items inside to sparkle brightly.
There were two tiny aurora-colored stones arranged side by side.
“Are these the stones you mentioned earlier?”
“Yes! The technological innovations achieved over the past six months have made it possible to succeed in producing an even purer product.”
“But… I imagine its use is still the same.”
“That is correct! We have improved its performance through crystallization, resulting not only in easier connectivity, but also in greater stability.”
Hmm...
I honestly did not find the current version inconvenient.
“Alright, I will test it out.”
I took the stones out of the box after ending the call.
The advancements made over the past six months are truly remarkable, and the fact that it is now possible to do with a stone so small what was previously impossible without imitating Her Majesty is astonishing.
However…
“I said I'd give it a try, but it’s going to be a hassle adjusting to a new one…”
I really had no problem with the one I was currently using.
I placed the two stones in my hand as I thought about it.
“They are… beautiful.”
With each tilt, the stones shimmer with a light resembling an aurora.
“...”
I remember there being a legend about how this particular substance supposedly protects its owner.
Maybe it would be a good idea for that woman to carry one with her in the event of an emergency, considering how much of an airhead she can be.
“Well, there is a spare.”
I am content with the one I have so far, and even if I were to use this new one, I don't need two of them.
And if I were to throw away something so carefully refined, it would be a disservice to the department responsible for it.
It is by no means a gift, but just how things turned out. A coincidence.
It happened to coincide with Christmas.
“But, it’s technically not something I bought myself…”
No, Kotobuki mentioned something about the sentiment too.
Not that I have any.
There is no further meaning to this beyond simply sharing a spare.
“Alright, then this will do.”
I nodded to myself and was about to place the box of stones on a shelf…
“...She’d probably find them when cleaning if I put them here.”
After giving it some more thought, I finally put them in my desk drawer.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☃︎ 𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒔
[25th December 2024]
After having returned back to Seoul, Jangmi only had one day to prepare all her gifts before Christmas Day arrived. She had one day to bake and wrap all the gifts, making sure everyone also got their little souvenirs that she had brought back from Greece.
It was a lot of preparation but of course, the hybrid managed to do everything with energy rejuvenated and heart filled up.
A knock on her door causes her attention to shift from putting the final touches on her Christmas tree, decorated with pictures in ornaments, to the visitor she knows is behind the door. Jongin and Channie had come around before they went away so there was only one other person who would be coming to see her on Christmas Day.
Someone she had been excited to see even though they've only spent a day apart.
"Alpha!" Jangmi opens the door and walks into his arms, being careful with the gifts he has. "Merry Christmas!" She smiles, leading him inside before rushing to the oven to pull out the last of her baking. Her entire kitchen is filled with cookies and cupcakes and gingerbread, icing galore and decoration messily scattered around. Placing the last of the cupcakes on the rack to cool, she takes off her apron and rushed over to Chan. "Sorry! It's a little messy in there! I hope the pack is hungry!" She giggles before taking a seat on the couch.
"Before we exchange presents," the hybrid reaches into a box she has beside the couch and pulls out a Christmas sweater that matches her own. "I made this for you! I made one for everyone! Look," she points to Whistler sleeping in his bed in his little sweater. "Can't take Christmas photos without matching sweaters."
She knows that she can be a little much, especially with the holidays; but seeing the way Chan is looking at her, that smile he wears that makes the butterflies in her stomach flutter, she knows he doesn't mind.
And if he did, he's never said it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos are taken and a kiss under the fake mistletoe is had before they finally get around to opening the presents. He had to remind her that he did need to pop around and see other people even if he did want to spend the whole day with her.
Oh, how could she forget? Caught up in her little world with him.
The first gift was a cute little pick holder, something Jangmi had made herself at pottery class. "You can also use it for your keys! I know you have picks in your studio at home and they are so small and get misplaced easily! Now you have somewhere to put them!" She giggles as if it is the smartest gift in the world. The guitar holders were something she had seen at a music shop and bought the right amount for Chan. "I thought, maybe, you could use these for your guitars? Aren't they cute?!"
The final gift wasn't anything fancy, it was simply something that happens to follow the tradition Jangmi has with her seashell collection. "I saw this at a store in Athens. It's a wind chime! It goes perfectly with your bracelets! Now whenever you see it or hear it, you'll remember our holiday!"
A holiday that she'll always remember thanks to him.
Tumblr media
When Chan had left, a hug being held on for a little longer than needed, Jangmi returns to the kitchen to finish up the other Christmas treats before her second guest arrived. By guest, she means the God that she's roped into house sitting with her and will be the poor sucker to sit through Christmas movies like he did last year.
Except this year, they'll be doing it in Irene and Chris' house since they are away and pets need looking after.
By the time Doom arrived, everything was packed and ready. Her presents for him neatly wrapped, the baking she had done for him all boxed up and ready, and Whistler is tucked into her arms. "Where is your bag?" She asks, noticing it is just him and nothing else, "Doom! I said we are staying there!"
She wonders if batting her eyes and pouting at him will convince him to stay with her tonight so she grabs his hand, the difference in size strikingly obvious and does exactly that. "Please don't make me stay there alone~"
Once they are finally at the house, Irene having decorated it before they left so that Jangmi could still enjoy the festivities, she begins taking up the space. Whistler needs to get used to the cats, Doom needs to stop scaring Spartan and Jangmi — well, she needs to process everything.
"Doomie!" She calls out his nickname she's given him, using it only when they are alone because she says it makes him seem less scary — though, she's not scared of him at all. "Time to open up the presents!!"

"First, open this one." She places the large Christmas sweater, all wrapped up, on his lap with a smile and waits for him to put it on. Even if it takes a little convincing, she is determined to have them both wearing their matching sweaters. She made one for everyone for a reason!
The box she gives Doom afterwards is a small little jewellery box with a neat little bow on top. Her tail wraps around her as her ears flatten on her head in anticipation. Everyone else Jangmi can figure out, she knows the perfect gift for them but for the God, it's a lot harder because what do you get someone who doesn't care for anything? Inside are a pair of ruby cufflinks set in silver and adorned with diamonds, an elegant set that she thought matched him.
"A gentleman should always have a good pair of cufflinks, I once got told." She smiles softly at him, "and I don't remember you having some so... Merry Christmas, Doomie." She leans over and kisses his cheek, hoping he likes them.

Compass of the Heavens / Part 1
Tumblr media
Eichi: The end-of-the-year broadcasts for SS have kept me busy, however
I'm glad we’re able to conduct "Flavor" activities without anyone being absent.
Hiyori: It's not like I can turn you down if you tell me it’s the "last one before the end of year". After all, it'd be bland without the main character♪
Ritsu: True. All of the sweets made by your patissier are delicious.
Plus, there's people here who love to hear themselves talk, so it's easy for me to just smile and nod.
Hajime: Fufu. It’s nice that we have all five members...♪
Usually, at least one person can't make it. There's not much we can do about it, but the empty seat's a little lonely.
Tatsumi: I agree. The five of us together are "Flavor".
Next year will surely be just as hectic, however I'd like to be able to plan some time for this sort of thing.
Eichi: That's the intention. Otherwise, my mind and body will just crave it.
Even a flawless superhuman needs rest.
... A lot happened this year as well. Although there are children from different agencies here, I can't not choose some words to reminisce on—
I'm happy that we've come to the point where we can temporarily divide up some of our planning.
It seems like a section of ES management is underestimating Anzu-chan, saying things like "Can she make costumes for all of the idols?" or "This plan will surely fall through".
I wonder if they'll come to realize that she isn't exactly an ordinary girl...♪
Hajime: Speaking of "personalized outfits", you still haven't made one yet, have you Eichi-oniichan?
Is this technically the last one you have to do? Have you heard back from Anzu-san?
Eichi: A while back, I was approached during the planning stage of a "personalized outfit". After all, Eichi Tenshouin, who has been referred to as the face of ES, was a prominent influencer of the idea.
If I were to kick it off, we'd inadvertently come across with some political tone, right? For that reason, I deliberately distanced myself from it and passed the baton to Anzu-chan.
Worried about me having my hands full, she left the date of making my "personalized outfit" up to me.
I thought I'd take into consideration other childrens' outfits as reference, but I’ve been procrastinating on it. I wonder if now's a good time...?
If I act as a big player, there will likely be suspicion of my motives...
Tumblr media
Eichi: ...
"Merry Christmas♪"
Fufu...
(The Branco PV really warms my heart. My fatigue is melting away like snow.)
(I want to keep watching it, but I really need to get back to work.)
...
(... Today's tea party was quite pleasant, huh? It's been a while since we've been able to talk aimlessly like that.)
(I was glad to hear the story behind everyone's "personalized outfits". Ritsu-kun was teasing me all, "you're really chomping at the bit", but...)
(It's not really like there's much else I can do? Ritsu-kun aside, no one else would give me any advice.)
(I really wish they'd just feel free to impose on me. Although, it might be hard giving advice to someone in my position.)
(I've become ever-so-slightly resentful of this status of mine.)
(... Aah, that’s right. My "personalized outfit"ー)
(As I'd said at our meet-up, it's about time I came up with something.)
("Just doing a little in your spare time would be fine", is what Anzu-chan told me, but if I obeyed her exact words, I'd never finish this.)
(It's also another one of the many policies to create excitement in ES, so it's a pretty impressive task. I'll need to put in some serious effort, so let's have a go at this.)
(... Although, this is a cumbersome matter. I'll open my sketchbook, but I can't think of anything.)
(What seems to surface in my mind are the many "personalized outfits" I've seen previously.)
(Some have their outfits represent their ideals, others show off their true selves, and more yet express their sentiments towards their fansー)
(They’ve all created a "personalized outfit" unlike any other in this world.)
(It's my turn next. What seems "Eichi Tenshouin"-ish...?)
...
(... I'm not making any progress staring at the ceiling like this. I suppose I'll take a walk in order to improve my thoughts.)

[Merry Christmas, my Tumblr cupcakes! Buon Natale! The Shibayama family and me all wish you a wonderful Natale. So much peace, happiness, joy, harmony in your households💕.
Hm, I usually hate crossposting but I will make another exception for Christmas💕. I think here Kou has received so much love in these months? I know he’s the most popular kid among my Ocs on IG, but on Twitter it’s definitely Ran.
Anyway, short long story. My Christmas comic sketches lack sense every year and this is what I like about them🤣. ]
Kou doesn’t really hate singing. Indeed, when he lived in Italy he was so into singing, as much as Junpei, and he also used to sing during Zecchino D’Oro.
Zecchino d’Oro is a musical festival where chorus of children sing original kids songs. When I was younger, I had so many DVDs featuring musical videos dedicated to children and I admit I still listen to some old songs when I feel like doing it ahahah. They are very adorable and pure, and there also ton of Christmas songs (both original and cute revisitations). During the competion lot of famous singers join and I believe Junpei would love having fun with kids too. So I do headcanon he will eventually end up there too someday, and Kou would be so happy and proud💕🤣.
However, when Kou starts living in Japan, his classmates will begin making him uncomfortable about Junpei, due to how big he is. This will lead Kou to becoming colder in Junpei’s regards and detesting singing as well, because it’s something that’s connected with Junpei. This is the reason why every Christmas isn’t that appreciated by Kou🤣.
Even if Izumi is busy with the restaurant, Junpei will always give his best to stay with the children as much as he can, also to fill those times of the year he couldn’t be there. Moreover, he knows he isn’t going to stay with them on New Year, so he obviously wants to give them his whole attention. A tradition in the Shibayama ‘s household is to sing Christmas songs while Junpei (tries🤣) plays them on the piano. Needless to say Kou doesn’t really like this activity at all, or better, he does like it but he is too torn to admit it.
So he will walk away this year as well, while someone is wishing upon a Christmas star to get a precious desire of his fulfilled. Digiworld has got no concept of time…It can connect dimensions but also people living in different time layers. Uhhh, Junpei, I don’t think you have wished to get a Kou for on Christmas Eve’s night ahahahahahahah.
“My wish is to get to stay with Izumi-Chan forever…~~~”
✨✨✨✨✨
Kou…Isn’t exactly what he wished for, okay? 🤣 Or maybe he is, in some kind of way?
PSA That I thank Joseph for still making me discover Junzumi official stuff at the end of 2022. I was kinda inspired from the “More More Happy Christmas” Frontier song ahahahZ

24 to 25
Twenty-four to twenty-five, bae. Just stay with me.
Word Count: 533
Genre: Seungmin x reader, fluff
Warnings: none, I don’t think, unless the word crap counts as swearing?
Author: Merry Christmas and happy holidays!! Thank you @seoulbinz for beta reading :D (this is my little addition for the ficscafe holiday event !)
Tumblr media
The world was quiet, preparing for a white Christmas. Snow dotted the streets and windows. Fountains were frozen and roads were iced over. Lights lit up the white in rainbow. Family celebrations paused for a glimpse of the wonder. Laughter and cheer permeated the night, spilling from each home, and yours was no exception.
Boisterous sounds of joy filled the living room. Felix is laid out, sprawled across the floor in a laughing fit. Chan and Jeongin are giggling along with him from the kitchen. Changbin films from beside the coffee table, Minho’s commentary cutting in from behind him. A smile is plastered to your face looking around at all your friends enjoying Hyunjin and Jisung’s chaotic Just Dance rendition of Feel Special. The moment you land on Seungmin, whose side you're currently tucked into, the smile only grows wider. His face was lit up in a cheek-splitting grin, eyes creased into glittering crescents. Euphonious laughs drip off his lips. This sight of him so happy lit off tiny fires throughout your blood, increasing the warmth of your heart tenfold. Happiness flooded you, looking away before you began melting in a puddle endearment. Everyone’s spirits showed no sign of decline even as the performance came to end with uproarious applause.
“Absolutely amazing!”
“Wonderful!”
“Bravo! Brava!”
The two dipped down in deep bows, “Thank you, thank you. We’ll be here all night.”
As the noise died back down, the boys went back to chatting and seeing who would go up next. You excused yourself to the kitchen to refill on punch. Looking out from the island, joy greeted every bit of your heart at the sight of your friends’ smiling faces. You were with all of the people who made your life brighter. These moments meant everything to you and there seemed no end to the swelling bliss inside your chest.
Turning away you came face to face with the large window above the sink, eyes turning wide at the sight, “Guys! It’s snowing!”
At the shout, they all came running in to look at it with you.
Seungmin rushed right back to your side, “It’s so pretty.”
“Mhm.”
“Wow, even the roads are almost completely covered.” Felix pointed out.
A sudden realization hit you, “Oh crap. I should probably head out before it’s too dangerous for me to get home.” You walked to the foyer, fumbling for your jacket, “Thank you so much for having me. I’ll hopefully be able to get over here tomorrow morn-”
“Stay here for the night.” There, Seungmin stood in front of you, hands wringing and face red.
“Minnie, I don’t want to intrude.”
His hands reached for you, one falling upon your cheek, rubbing gently, “You aren’t. You’re my partner, you’re always welcome here. I-I want you here. Take a break. Stay with me for Christmas.”
“O-okay.” There it was again. His face split into a grin, this one shyer than before, cheeks dusted in pink, and eyes twinkling. Soon, the blush spread to you as he leaned in closer. Lips moving, noses brushing, fingers interwoven, hearts beating in tune. He pulled away breathless before gripping harder on your hand and bringing you back into the festivities.

hiii!! side note, merry christmas eve :)
anywho, i was wondering whenever you had time, if you could write about a tall seijoh and/or karasuno female manager? like around 5’10 ish? anyway, have a good day!!!
seijoh x fem!reader, karasuno x fem!reader
helloo, i don't celebrate christmas but merry christmas to yall who celebrate it :33
Tumblr media
Seijoh
iwaizumi is now a target
you both are actually the same height!
iwaizumi would have to constantly close his ears because of comments of his height but you couldn't and you giggled to each and every one of them
hanamaki: aww, you can't reach the shelf iwa chan? how about you ask y/n-chan for help?
y/n: brotha i can't even reach it
(shelf meaning matsukawa carrying kindaichi on his shoulders dangling iwa's sport shoes around)
but you are salty sometimes that some people gotta be tall
you didn't care about the third years cause yes, it made sense why they're tall
but people like kindaichi and kunimi or the other boys are no fair
they're so tall for no reason at all
y/n: can i eat your milkbread?
oikawa: hm, why?
y/n: by any chance, i get taller than you?
oikawa: when pigs fly, yeah
when you need protecting from creeps, you're your own bodyguard💀
you're taller than any of the guys who keep creeping on you
oikawa just tends to worry about you but the team know you'll be fine on your own
creep man: hey baby-
y/n: leave or i'll break your back into an ironboard and iron my clothes on you
oikawa: *just rounding the corner to find you* *swet*
same with oikawa's fangirls, you're like a mini date tech iron wall to his fans and you could brush them off easily so they won't distract him
the team's greatful you can handle things on your own like harassment and reaching for stuff (mattsun said this a lot of times because you're a saviour to others when they struggle to get their stuff in a higher place and you're annoyed by him already)
although seeing you argue with one of oikawa's toxic fangirls and her height difference with you is so damn comedic💀💀
if the fangirl would say you were gonna steal her mans, the team would one hundred percent believe her
you look like you're ready to kidnap oilawa with that height
the meme team won't stop comparing you to many things when you argue with fangirls
a sapling and a tree, a baby and an uncle, a dog and a turtle
the list just goes on
sometimes the team could visibly see the fangs you're baring to the girls when they won't listen, you were intimadating eventhough there's no need since you're just expressing you anger once and the whole team's like 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️
the other first and second years treated you normally, unlike some people
other than that, they still love their short manager, yes short
(iwaizumi doesn't have a say in this)
Karasuno
hinata and nishinoya ogled at you when you first joined the team
you know the thing when nishinoya got on hinata's back and did a handstand, both boys now do it to you (except for hinata because he still fails at doing handstands)
you were okay with that, it was fun when noya tried to balance himself on your shoulders but it wasn't when he fell, ouch
yachi loves you😔
you're like a fluffy teddybear and a big sister
she likes clinging on your back when she's tired and you guys live on the same street and her mom would recognize you when you struggle to pat her off your back
she doesn't mind, she likes that her daughter has a sister figure at school
i'm not biased shut up but kiyoko almost fell for you
you were kind and respectful and you also made her open up a little which made noya and tanaka (maybe part of the team) tear up when they saw their queen laugh to your jokes
she hits you with a big smile when you didn't bother to stop and asked you to get back to your task
ah, petty arguments with tsukishima
you're sTilL shoRt compared to tsukki
when others ogle at you for being taller than the average human being, he would scoff
it also lead to you to being close with yamaguchi as well
you threw hands with his best friend and now you're friendly with his best friend
(okay i'm confusing)
yamaguchi is calm with you, treating you like tsukki (he's not flustered that much)
you gladly calmed his anxiety when you teach him some methods
tanaka and you were also a team when you wanted to gang up on tsukishima but he successfully ignored yall and shifted your attention to something else
kageyama sometimes lets out weird ass thoughts like "could you fit in a bed, do your feet dangle?" like idk sir how bout you💀💀
the third years have these days where you spend time with them and they love having you along
you just have to somehow stop suga from tickling and carrying you around (making your feet almost hit daichi's or asahi's face)
mostly you and suga are rowdy with each other and daichi and asahi just sighs seeing the both of you cause chaos
(i am not good at height requests cause all i've experienced is my friends envying my height and tall girls comparing their shorter friends to me idk man💀 i'm the same height as levi except slightly taller, all my friends are like oompa loompas-)

A Brothers Care
For @katzanone ! Merry Christmas!! 🥳🥳🥳 Hope I gave you that Unsui goodness!
Unsui knew something was wrong, ever since yesterday his body had begun to betray him, his throat was sore, his muscles felt weak and he had a headache, he didn’t know what had caused this, infection? Stress? Well the fact that he generally didn’t take care of himself too well outside of training might be a factor, one he didn’t enjoy the thought of, sure he went out for runs in winter in just a hoodie and the fact he was pulling all nighters for a test but plenty of people do that and are fine so what is he? Just unlucky as usual…
He woke up the next morning, not any better, hell maybe even worse, his head was swimming when he stood up but he didn’t let it deter him, he staggered out his room and walked towards the kitchen, he could hear Agon was awake in his own room, up early for once weirdly, he pushed all his focus on each next step his breath more laboured than it should have been, he managed to take one step into the kitchen when the black spots in his vision started to take over completely, he fell limb and heavy to the wooden floor, a loud thud echoed in the quiet home, Agon emerged from his room annoyed by the noise bothering his hangover “What the hell are you doing Unko Chan?!” He walked down the hallway and saw his brother collapsed and rushed over frantically “UNSUI!” He shook him, no response, he was panicking now, he moved Unsui from his back to onto his side, into the recovery position and immediately went to grab the phone and call for help.
A few hours had passed and Unsui finally awoke, weakly opening his eyes he saw he was in his own room in bed, Agon sat on the edge staring at him.
“Agon?..” “Don’t try to speak idiot you need all the energy you can get” Unsui went back to silence, his dry sore throat thanking him for it “you almost gave me a heart attack yknow baldy? You were just lying there like a corpse, I swear I could feel time slow down waiting for the ambulance, then the doctor finally gets here and she tells me you’ve got a fever and fatigue, making me panic over something that simple, I swear the minute you’re better I’m kicking your ass and sending you to the hospital for something actually serious” Unsui let’s a small smile rest on his face ‘So you panicked over me huh?’ Feeling warmth seep into his heart at the fact his brother does genuinely care even if he has a weird way of showing it.
“You’re not going to school or training for awhile” Unsui immediately tried to get up and object but Agon pushed him back down and sneered at him disapprovingly “Don’t you dare Unko chan you’re not going anywhere and I’m going to make sure of it” Unsuis brows furrowed unhappily but knew he wasn’t going to win in any case so he fully relaxed and got comfortable even if he still had some internal guilt at the thought of not being productive, and as if Agon could read his mind he said “Thinking like that is what got you here in the first place so consider this whole experience a lesson dumbass”.
Agon really meant it when he said he was going to make sure Unsui stay put and his method of doing so was becoming Unsui’s nurse.
A thought that worried Unsui cause although Agon was incredibly intelligent he also left Unsui to do all the household chores, so now Unsui was stressed that the house was getting messy and the fact Agon was cooking God knows what for him.
Agon came busting through the door, tray in hand, a smirk on his face “Your 5 Star care service is here, be thankful sicko” Unsui was already wondering if Agon looking after him was actually helping or adding to the fatigue as Agon plopped down the tray onto his lap, he didn’t know what to expect but he was pleasantly surprised to see a cheese omelette with toast and fruit on the side with juice, it looked great, he looked to Agon for a moment who had a smug look on his face, telling him to eat up and immediately tucked in, it was delicious, he felt so refreshed after, he finished and was about to thank Agon but instead he felt a hand pet his head softly, an action Agons always been fond of since they were kids, a way to easily show affection without awkward words, and only said “Get some sleep” before picking up the tray and leaving the room, a satisfied smile on his face.
Unsui leaned back in his pillow feeling content and loved, and drifted off happily.
It continued like this for a few more days, Agon being equal parts snarky and warm towards him. He was glad he got to see this side of him others didn’t, know that even after all these years, and all they’d been through they still cared about and loved each other and in these past few days Unsui truly saw that version of Agon he was before all the ego got to him.
Agon saw the same in Unsui, his stoic brother who rarely showed weakness and always pushed himself to hard was now smiling happily at him when he walked through the door to take his temperature to see if his fever had subsided, he hadn’t seen that smile in awhile and especially not aimed at him, he smiled back but acted nonchalant about it, can’t have Unko chan thinking he’s going soft.
He took his temperature, it was Normal and all signs of fatigue were gone, he had made a full recovery, all thanks to his brothers care.

So, as I promised, Inarizaki New Year request. Inarizaki boys and manager make party at her place, they prepare dinner, decorate the Christmas tree and her home (twins hang the mistletoe everywhere, but manager-chan is clueless so she doesn't know about kissing tradition), exchange gifts, have sleepover etc. Next day they all go together to the shrine and all boys ask to marry her. And they are EMBARRASSED when manager asks them what they ask.
Ahhh Tilli my love! I'll finally use this as a Christmas and New year one combined (eventho they've both passed a long time ago :) and this will be the final addition to the Inarizaki December series!
Once again, thank you so much for supporting me through it all, and showering love on every day's imagine. I didn't expect to get 100-200 notes on some days, but I did!! And I'm really ever so grateful. I hope you'll stay tuned :D
-
Inarizaki's manager-chan day 25!!
Late merry Christmas!! 💖 (And happy new year)
☃️
It was finally the seventh day of Christmas.
The day everyone looked forward to, filled with so much cheer and joy. The boys couldn't wait to spend it at your house. (They couldn't spend the actual day of Christmas with you, due to clashes in the schedule), but that's okay. They were here now.
It was unorthodox, to decorate the tree and give gifts days after the 25th, but it didn't matter to you, and if it didn't matter to you, it didn't matter to the boys either.
The house was warm, and you were busy baking cookies. The smell of gingerbread and peppermint floated in the air. Suna snuck up behind you and took a dab of the cookie mixture. “I rate this a 10/10”
Kita glared at him. “Suna that wasn't very hygienic” which only caused you to laugh.
Christmas carols were playing from the small Bluetooth speaker near the tree, and you suddenly felt like dancing. After wiping your hands dry and shutting the oven so the cookies could bake, you pulled Kita to you and placed your hands on his shoulder.
“Dance with me, Kita-san”
His eyes sparkled as his cheeks heated up.
“Of course, my lady.”
And the rest of the members watched enviously as you spun around with Kita in tow. You looked gorgeous, and so undeniably happy.
“My turn!” said Atsumu indignantly as he replaced Kita. He pulled your waist closer to him as he picked you up and twirled you around. Your squeals made his heart beat faster as he gently let you go.
“That's enough dancing for one day, now go decorate the tree or something. These cookies will be done soon and me and y/n need to decorate them.” said the gray haired twin.
The boys nodded as they made their way to the big tree in the living room, whilst you were left alone in the kitchen with Osamu.
Osamu swiped a bit of frosting on your cheek and laughed, as he put on the oven mitts, readying himself to take the cookies out of the oven.
You laughed and licked the frosting off.
Damn. Osamu's brain almost short-circuited, but he pushed such thoughts out of his mind and instead focused on the cookies.
“How shall we ice them?”
You mixed food colouring into the frosting bowls and explained you wanted to ice them according to each of the members.
“We'll use white for Kita! Since he's so dedicated and wonderful, white suits him best. And green for Tsumu, because he makes me feel happy and fresh inside.”
Osamu nodded with a small smile. “And what about me?”
“Purple for you, because I feel comfortable with you, you're basically my home. And red for Rin, because red is a sleepy colour, and I just love napping on his lap.”
“Oh and blue for Aran! He makes me feel safe inside. Orange for Akagi, he's such a cheerful person, he's like my very own sunshine.”
Osamu blushed and stroked your cheek gently. “You're my little home too, ya know that? I'm icing yours pink.”
Pink for the way you make me blush, my love.
You beamed at him and began icing the cookies, delicately and carefully, whilst Osamu iced the other half.
-
The rest of the boys finished decorating the tree as they took a step back to admire their work.
Suna gently adjusted the baubles, before taking a few pictures. He wanted to capture this moment forever.
Suddenly, you and Osamu came to the room with a mixture of cookies and a few mugs of hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Akagi smiled as he placed a kiss on your cheek before snagging a cookie. “Aww you guys are the best, thank you!”
The snow slowly fell outside, as the tree sparkled proudly in the center of the living room.
“Hey we still need to put the angel on top!”
Atsumu jokingly picked you up in his arms “we have one right here, shall I put her on top of the tree?”
The boys laughed as they passed you the tiny angel figurine. “we can't reach it anyways, why don't you put it instead?" Said Aran with a small smile.
Atsumu lifted you up gently as you placed the angel on the top of the tree, completing the decoration process.
“Thanks, you guys are amazing. I'm so lucky to have you.”
Your words were met with a chorus of "I love you's" and "me too's"
And you laughed, as Atsumu pulled you closer to him.
“Tsumu, you can put her down now” said a disgruntled Osamu.
-
[ 2 hours earlier ]
Osamu: have you placed the mistletoe in random spots?
Atsumu: yes, what about you?
Osamu: yeah, but I've kept one in my pocket. I'll just put it up whenever we're alone and it show to her.
Atsumu: damn that's so smart, why didn't I think of that? :(
Osamu: cuz yer' stupid.
Atsumu: >:(
-
[present time]
You and the boys play tons of games in the living room, and stash their gifts underneath the tree too.
“Let's open then tomorrow morning! We'll sleep in here too, and it will be fun to open them as soon as we wake up.” you say happily.
Suna leans on your shoulder throughout the evening, and soon his head makes its way to your lap, as usual.
You laugh and ruffle his hair, as he looks up at you breathlessly. You're so beautiful to him. So undeniably gorgeous. Atsumu wasn't lying when he called you an angel.
Suna's pupils dilated as he stared into your eyes. “I love you, y/n”
Not hearing the sincerity and hidden meaning behind his words, you replied with a quick “I love you too, Rin-rin”
And frankly, even if you didn't know how much he truly meant it, it didn't matter. He'd make sure you did, someday.
-
The plate of cookies were left with only crumbs and the mugs were all empty.
The next part of the night was dinner, and since Kita was the only one who could drive, he'd take you out to pick it up.
“Let's go Y/n-san” said Kita, as a tired Suna whined when he had to lose your lap-pillow.
You nodded and followed him, fastening the seatbelt in the passengers seat as you winked at the boys. “Be good while we're gone, okay?”
Kita turned up the radio. It was a song he didn't particularly like, but you seemed to love. However, you switched the radio off.
“Y/n-san, don't you like this song? Why did you change it?”
“Because you don't like it, Kita-san, and I want to talk to you. Your voice is better than any song.” was your simple reply.
No beating around the bush, you were ever so straightforward, and yet it made Kita's heart beat faster.
“so what would you like to talk about?”
And it started from there. A car-ride filled with the voices of the both of you.
At the traffic light, Kita gave you a sideways glance as he saw your excited expression talking about the cookies you baked.
But frankly he wasn't listening anymore. he was admiring the way your eyes shone in delight, and your cheeks as they were pink from the cold. He smiled at the way your face seemed to light up, and at the beautiful smile etched into it.
And Kita found that beautiful.
“It was delicious, right? And the frosting was beautiful too?” you finished excitedly, by asking him.
“she really is beautiful” said Kita in a trance, as the light turned red and he snapped out of it.
“I mean, yes, the frosting was beautiful!”
-
After picking up a bucket of KFC, as it's traditionally eaten to celebrate Christmas, the boys greeted you at the door.
“Mom and dad are home” joked Akagi.
“Oh my, so that means y/n's our mommy?” said Atsumu seductively, which earned him a sharp kick from Osamu. “Hey Tsumu, shut the hell up.”
The table was set and filled with cheer and banter from all sides, as Akagi sat next to you, and plated everything out.
You sighed happily. Truthfully, you weren't aware of traditions in Japan, since you were new to the country, but the boys taught you every day. It was Osamu who informed you that people in Japan ate their Christmas dinners at KFC.
“It's kinda like a tradition here” he said, with a small shrug. And you were determined to stick to those traditions.
“Are there any other traditions you practice, here? During Christmas?” you asked, in between bites.
Atsumu smirked at you and held up a small plant. “This is called mistletoe, but I won't tell you what the tradition related to it is”
You were confused, because all the other boys had suddenly turned red, and no matter how much you asked them, they refused to tell you what the significance of mistletoe was.
“Hmm, weird” you said softly, as you finished dinner, and brought your plate to the kitchen to be washed.
As you walked out, you noticed a small sprig of mistletoe above you, and a tall presence looming over you...
-
[ hello!! This is route time!! There are six members which I have written mistletoe routes for, and the corresponding colours will be for each member, so read whichever you want to!!]
(pink is the general route. no matter which route you choose, the new year's day story will continue with the general route, so please keep that in mind.)
-
Kita
Osamu
Aran
Atsumu
Akagi
Suna
-
You looked up and saw Akagi, and he had a bunch of other dishes in his hands. “I've lost a bet, so they've made me wash their dishes”
Atsumu's gleeful voice could be heard as he egged his senpai on. “make sure they're spotless, Akagi!”
You took half of the plates from Akagi kindly and assured him you'd help him.
“my hands are wet anyways. It'd be a bother to dry them after washing only one plate”
“T-thanks” he stuttered softly.
-
As you and Akagi washed the plates side by side, he felt a slight tug in his chest. It felt so domestic, to come home to you, hug you in his arms, and do the most mundane of tasks with you, like washing the dishes like this.
He wouldn't mind anything, honestly. As long as he was with you, the most grueling of chores would become fun.
And as he saw your brows furrowed in concentration, he sighed. You looked ever so adorable like that.
“Y/n-chan, I don't know if I've told you this yet, but you look very beautiful today.”
It took a lot of courage. Everyone saw him as a jokester, a perpetually happy person, but with you he wanted to be different.
He wanted you to know that when he complimented you like that, he wasn't joking. Not the least bit.
A soft tint could be seen on your cheeks as you continued washing the plates. “why thank you, Akagi. You look really nice too ”
And somehow, with that one compliment, you made Akagi happier than he had ever been.
The kitchen was filled with comfortable silence, and you appreciated the presence of the tall raven-haired libero who stood next to you, as he swore this scene would repeat itself in the future, someday, but with you as his girl.
-
The late dinner left everyone in a lazy mood, and although the Bluetooth speakers played more music, it became softer, more calm, and everyone felt ready to sleep.
The sleeping bags were arranged in the living room, in a small semicircle as you laid yours next to Atsumu.
“I didn't want to be alone in my room, knowing you guys were just outside, so I hope you don't mind if I slept here too” you said with a small blush.
The boys were overjoyed and eagerly made more space for you.
“I hope it won't be uncomfortable for you, y/n-san.”
You shook your head and settled into the sleeping back. “thank you for the concern, Kita-san, but you guys are here! how could I possibly be uncomfortable at all?”
You laid down in your sleeping bag as Aran leaned over to switch the lights off.
“Big day tomorrow. Let's all get some rest.”
A silent exchange of "goodnight's" was all you could hear, before complete silence, signalling their exhaustion.
But Atsumu, who was laying down next you was far from asleep.
He turned to the side to face you, his eyes reflecting the moonlight beautifully.
“I'm cold” you whispered, as you shifted in your sleeping bag uncomfortably. Atsumu's heart started beating uncontrollably as he made space in his own sleeping bag for you.
“Let's cuddle. Body heat is still heat, right beautiful?”
You smiled gratefully as you slipped in next to him, and his arms wrapped around you protectively.
His mind began to wander, and like Akagi, he wondered if he could get used to this. To coming home after a hard day and slipping into bed with you.
To keeping you warm on cold nights, and holding you if you had a nightmare.
As his fingers gently stroked through your hair, you sighed softly and cuddled closer to his chest in a dream-like state.
You had fallen asleep in his arms, just like he had dreamt for so often, and he couldn't wait till he'd be able to have you with him every single night.
Every single night for the rest of forever. Atsumu wanted to spend every single one of them with you.
He smiled softly as he observed your sleeping features before pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.
“You'll truly be the death of me, y/n”
-
You awoke many times in the middle of the night, but with Atsumu's firm grip on you, and his comforting body heat, you had no trouble falling back asleep again.
Soon, sunlight began to stream through the windows and the small beams of light slowly caused you to wake up.
The boys were all still asleep, so you gently pried yourself off Atsumu, gave him a gentle kiss to his cheek, and tip-toed to the kitchen, to make breakfast.
Aran, who had incredibly sensitive ears, heard the shift of the fridge door, and woke up. In a groggy-like state, he walked over to you and hugged you from behind.
“good morning” he whispered softly. “can I help you with breakfast?”
Although he wasn't naturally a cook, your patient instructions and kindness proved to be all he needed, and the two of you made a pile of pancakes, drizzled in maple syrup.
By now, the rest of the boys were also awake, they were better than greyhounds when it came to sniffing out food you've made.
But as Aran helped you around the kitchen, he couldn't focus on the others. He couldn't focus on anyone but you.
You, with your messy hair and half lidded eyes. With your low morning voice and small smile. You were so comfortable being yourself, and he really was glad.
Morning-y/n, the y/n only they got to see this morning, was pretty darn adorable. And he wanted her to know that.
“you're so cute when you're still half asleep, ya know?”
Although his voice has a teasing edge, a ring of laughter behind it, Aran wanted you to know that.
“aww thanks Aran, I like your morning voice too” you said with a dopey smile, as your flipped another pancake.
Suna stole one from off the plate and nibbled on it “I rate this a 10/10 too”
“Oh no Kita's glaring at me. I never tasted it in the first place”
-
After breakfast, presents, tons of hugs, and an outfit change later, the Shrine came into view. It was the first day of the new year, and as per the tradition of praying at the shrines for good luck, you and the team were heading there to welcome the new year with hopes and dreams.
“So, you have to clap twice, and wish for whatever it is your head desires for this year” said Akagi with a smile.
The rest of the boys had their eyes screwed shut, as they prayed for their deepest desire; to marry you someday.
Your wish was not so different either. “I wish to be able to be by their sides forever. For their good health, happiness, and safety. I love them.”
As you laid your eyes on their figures, hunched over the shrine, you swore you would do anything to make your wish a reality.
“I love you guys. Happy new year.!!”

The Christmas Baker
A Hyunlix Hallmark Fic Chapter 5/5 wc: 4.9k
Hwang Hyunjin is a rich, cocky, famous dancer that prefers to keep to himself during the holidays. When his roommate drags him along to visit his hometown, however, Hyunjin meets a boy who helps him believe in the spirit of the season. Primarily Hyunjin’s pov with Felix’s pov added in occasionally. series warnings: Extremely cliche. You will probably cringe at some points but its okay. chapter warnings:  None, just super cheesy :) note: This fic is not meant to accurately reflect or portray the members of SKZ. This is just for fun.
Read the last chapter here
                                  |--------------------Felix--------------------|
“Do we have to go?” Felix couldn’t help the whine in his throat as he let Chan push his body into his coat. He winced slightly at the pulling on his wrist when the sleeve passed over it, the pain of the fresh injury having caught up with him over the last 24 hours.
“Yes we have to go. You know you’re going to regret it if you don’t.” Chan paused as he held up Lix’s gloves, realizing he wasn’t going to be able to get them on over the cast. He stuffed them into his hoodie’s pouch after a moment and pulled a beanie onto his little brother’s head instead, “Besides, don’t you want to be there for Hyunjin’s first time at the party?”
Felix let out a small huff as he let his brother dress him like a child; it was easier to have help, even if a little embarrassing. He was right too, Felix DID want to be there with Hyunjin. He knew Hyunjin didn’t care much for the holiday, but the little school-boy crush in him wanted desperately to show him a good time, even if he was hurt.
"Yeah, I guess… I just know everyones gonna be disappointed about the cookies…"
"No, don't think that Lix. Even if Seungmin got only one batch done everyone will be happy to see that you're okay."
The door behind them opened as Chan finished speaking, a tightly bundled Hyunjin rushing in and almost knocking into them,
"Ah! You guys are almost ready!"
Felix looked at the taller boy curiously; since he'd got home from the clinic, Hyunjin had been in and out constantly all day and night. He'd return home for a quick meal or a nap, or to watch Felix as he slept himself, but he was gone again within a few hours, leaving Felix very little time to talk to him. Felix missed him when he was gone, a dangerous thing to feel given Hyunjin was still thinking about his own feelings, but he couldn't help it. When he saw Hyunjin's face light up as their gazes met, he hoped Hyunjin missed him too.
"Chan-hyung," Hyunjin turned his eyes to Chan, who immediately perked up. Felix blinked in surprise, looking between them; since arriving Hyunjin hadn't used such casual, affectionate language before. It was new… but Felix liked hearing him happy and comfortable nonetheless, "Um, some people want you at the town hall immediately. I can bring Felix in a little bit, but you should go meet them as soon as possible."
"Who?" Felix interjected. They were up to something; he could see the twitching at the corner of Chan's mouth that he gets when trying not to smile.
"I'm sure it's just last minute changes, Lixie. I'll go now, thank you Hyunjin."
"Hyung…" Chan gave his forehead a quick goodbye kiss and managed to escape Felix's grasp as he reached for his brother's coat. Hyunjin didn't help, draping a long arm across Felix's shoulders to guide him into the dining room, "Why can't we all just go together?"
Hyunjin paused, clearly not having thought about that before in whatever he was planning,
"Uh, I have something I wanna do first. Here, put your arm on the table."
Felix let out another sigh but obeyed, taking a seat and stretching out his arm as much as he could with the cast, "Like this?"
"Yeah. Now let me just fi- Ah!" Hyunjin shuffled through the many pockets on his thick coat until he produced a thick, black sharpie marker.
With great care not to twist too much, Hyunjin took Felix's arm in his hand and turned it over until his inner wrist was face-up. A hot blush bloomed across Lix's cheeks when Hyunjin popped the marker cap off with his teeth, using the black ink to write something he couldn't yet see on his cast. He felt as though he were back in middle school, having the popular boy sign his cast to sport the signature in front of everyone.
One proud grin later, Hyunjin pulled away to show Felix his message. Though the thick marker smeared a bit over the rough surface of the cast, his forearm read:
Felix,  Get well soon so we can dance together. Merry Christmas Hyunjin.
Accompanying the words was a heart drawn directly over his broken wrist. Felix felt as though his own heart may burst,
"What's this?"
"Just a little motivation to get better." Hyunjin snapped the cap back on the marker, avoiding his gaze. His ears were red and he rocked nervously on his heels. He was so incredibly…. cute. Felix wanted nothing more than to kiss him.
Not now. Not today. He reminded himself Hyunjin was still sorting out his feelings.
"Is this an official signature?" He teased instead, eliciting a giggle from Hyunjin,
"Technically yeah, I dunno how much it'll sell for-" His words cut off with a surprised gasp as Felix stood up and pulled him into a tight hug.
"Thank you, Hyunjin."
Hyunjin hesitated; Felix knew he understood the deeper meaning, he didn't need to hear anything in return. After a few rapid heartbeats, Hyunjin wound his arms around Felix in return, crushing him into the thick, squishy coat he still wore. Felix buried his face into the warmth of his chest for a moment, savouring the slip of affection more than he knew he should.
"So uhh…" Hyunjin stuttered, visibly flustered as he broke the embrace, "Are you ready to go?"
Felix nodded, letting Hyunjin lead him outside and down to the driveway. It was dark outside, long past evening and the moon and stars covered in a thick blanket of dark clouds. Despite the black sky above, the town was brightly lit with millions of little glowing bulbs lining the streets. Felix grinned at the sight, feeling lighter and more excited about the party than he had inside.
The only problem was the bitter cold.
As they walked, a breeze stirred in the air, not strong but deeply cold. It bit and stung Felix's cheeks and exposed skin,
"Ah shit…" He groaned as his fingers ached, fumbling the zipper of one of his jacket pockets, "Channie took my gloves with him…"
"Here…" Hyunjin's eyebrows knit together in concern as he plucked off one of his mittens. Felix opened his mouth to reject the mitten, not wanting Hyunjin to have to suffer the cold too, only to have his words halted when Hyunjin's hand slipped into his.
The taller boy winced as Felix's cold flesh pressed against his own, but continued to lace their fingers together. His large hand enveloped Felix's palm, warming his skin. Ears turning red with the sudden intimacy, Felix ducked his head, biting back a smile.
"Is this okay?" Hyunjin asked, his voice timid.
"This is perfect."
They continued to walk in shy silence, Felix's heartbeat roaring so loudly in his ears he was convinced Hyunjin could hear it too. Occasionally they would dare to spare a look at each other, catching the other's eye just to look away. Each time the grip on each other's hand grew tighter, more afraid to let go.
Is this his way of telling me he made up his mind? Felix wondered to himself. He didn't want to voice the thought aloud in case it wasn't true. He had to wait for Hyunjin to be ready to say it. No matter how painful the wait was.
They made their way to the center of town where the town hall stood among the maze of shoveled paths. The windows were all lit up orange and red and warm white, lights and ribbon strung around every tree and hedge and post, drawing them in with the promise of fun and warmth.
Except the sight of the building so close caused the anxiety to gnaw at Felix’s gut again.
“What’s wrong?” They paused at the bottom of the stairs, Hyunjin sensing his hesitation as his steps slowed and his grip grew weaker.
“I’m… really worried people are going to be disappointed to see me. Since I didn’t get to finish setting up everything.” He admitted with a sigh, his breath swirling around him in the cold, “I don’t like letting people down.”
“Hey…” Hyunjin frowned, slipping his hand out of Felix’s to pull him into a side-hug. Felix’s ears grew white-hot at the sudden affection, his hand clutching onto Hyunjin’s coat, “Do you trust me?”
Felix blinked at the question. It felt odd, like he should suspect something was wrong. Yet as he looked up into Hyunjin’s warm, smiling eyes, he knew he did, unquestionably.
“Yes, I trust you.”
“Then trust I wouldn’t bring you here if I thought it would upset you.”
Before Felix could ask what he meant by that, Hyunjin grabbed his hand again and pulled him up the steps to the grand entrance to the old building. The doors were closed, which he found odd, and they both had to push to get them open. Blinking against the assault of brilliant decorations lighting the entire entry hall, Felix stood in the doorway for a moment, dumbfounded at the sight before him.
“Merry Christmas, Felix!” Everyone who had gathered for the event was crowded in the room, dressed up in their santa hats and cheesy sweaters, and all looking at him with the happiest smiles. His neighbours, his employees, his friends, everyone was there and greeted him with a chorus of cheers. Above them hung the typical “Happy Holidays” banner that was used every year, though with a new addition. A second crudely-yet-endearingly-made banner hung from the bottom of the thick fabric:
Get Well Soon Felix
At the center of the entryway, sitting under the standard tree, was a board with papers and notes of various colours pinned up under a sign reading “Dear Felix Lee:” He walked into the crowd, accepting the hugs and high-fives and head rubs from the people he loved so dearly as he passed, until he got to the board.
Just from glancing over them, most of the letters echoed the sentiment of wanting him to get well and recover. Some letters thanked him for running the bakery, or for being so kind. Some called him an essential part of the community. All of them conveyed unconditional love.
Tears welled in his eyes, a wave of relief and overwhelming love crashing over him, lifting the burden of anxiety from his shoulders. No one was disappointed in him… they were worried. The whole town, worried about him.
Seungmin broke away from the crowd and bounced up to Felix excitedly, the bells hanging from his reindeer antler headband jingling over the music playing deeper in the hall.
“What do you think? Were you surprised?”
“Seungminnie... how- how did you do all this?”
“Actually… it was his idea.” Seungmin grinned, pointing behind Felix to where Hyunjin still stood awkwardly in the doorway.
“Hyunjin? Did this?” Felix blinked several times, his brain unable to process that statement.
“Ah… I have to admit, he also did most of those.” Draping an arm across Felix’s shoulders, Seungmin turned him to face the wall lined with tables of food and drink. At the center of it all was a familiar long table and display case both piled high with hundreds of cookies of various shapes and sizes. Several kids crowded around the table armed with plastic bags of brightly coloured frosting as they decorated their treats. Just like any other year. Like nothing happened.
The tears in his eyes spilled over, and Felix started to cry.
                             |--------------------Hyunjin--------------------|
Hyunjin lingered in the doorway, watching as Felix took in the surprise everyone had worked so hard to make for him. He was cold and tired, but it still felt odd walking into such a personal celebration. He was still an outsider.
“Hyunjinnie? What are you doing?” Hyunjin didn’t notice Chan escape the crowd until his hand rested on his shoulder, startling him.
“Oh… uh, I’m not sure.” Chan followed his gaze to where Felix and Seungmin were speaking excitedly,
“Go to him.”
“What?”
“Come on, Hyunjin. You did all this for him. You need to tell him.”
Hyunjin didn’t need to be asked twice when Felix turned to look at him, tears glittering under the glowing lights illuminating the hall. He was at Seungmin’s side in an instant, pushing his way through the crowd with his heart racing.
“What’s wrong?” Felix rubbed the tears from his eyes with his sleeve as he saw Hyunjin approach, Seungmin’s face lighting up,
“Um… I’ll go find Minho and give you two a minute.” He gave Hyunjin a reassuring pat on the shoulder before slipping into the crowd, a friendly gesture that still felt so surreal. He’d spent so much time with Felix’s best friend over the last two days, they felt like friends themselves.
“What the matter?” Hyunjin repeated to Felix this time, his heart aching as he watched the small boy try in vain to wipe his tears away.
“I- I can’t believe you did all this… For me?” Hyunjin dropped his eyes, ears burning with embarrassment under his beanie,
“I felt really bad that you couldn’t finish something you were looking forward to so badly. Especially because I feel like it was partially my fault. Seungmin, Minho, and Chan helped a lot.”
“Thank you so much.” Felix tugged him into a tight hug, burying his face into Hyunjin’s chest. He was sure it was to hide his tears, yet he couldn’t complain. He embraced Felix tightly, resting his chin atop his head.
“Thank you for always being so kind to me.”
Felix giggled shyly as he pulled away, his cheeks red now from rubbing his tears off them. Hyunjin took the smaller boy’s face in his hands and used his thumbs to gently do so instead. Not even two days ago, he would’ve considered the action a mistake. It would’ve made him panic at the way his heart pounds and his tummy flutters. The way a dizzy warmness spreads through his veins.
But today… today when he saw the look of pure affection in Felix’s chocolate brown eyes, it brought Hyunjin nothing but joy.
"How are we all doing?" Chan’s voice boomed over a mic and speakers at the back of the hall, startling them both. They giggled shyly to themselves as the crowd cheered, everyone’s attention turning to the platform where Chan stood, set up with his laptop and DJ equipment, which Hyunjin had come to find took up most of his obnoxious amount of luggage,
“Good! Good. It’s really great to be home again to see everyone, especially at this time of year. Um, as you all know, we’re not just here to celebrate Christmas Eve tonight, we’re gathered to celebrate someone very special to my heart. Someone that’s very special to all of us.”
The crowd cheered again, making Felix’s ear turn red and his fingers fumble bashfully with the hem of his jacket. Hyunjin’s heart swelled at the love flooding the room for this boy he cared for so deeply. He wanted to make sure Felix never stopped feeling that love.
Feeling HIS love.
Hyunjin couldn’t deny it anymore. He loved Felix. Relief washed over him like a warm bath, comforting and healing. If only he could make it through tonight… through this party with all these people around… Hyunjin made up his mind to tell Felix when they returned home.
“If you don’t mind, I’ve had a request to play one of his favourite songs. I’d like to play it now, before people start getting tired. You’re welcome to come dance along if you would like. Please enjoy yourselves.”
Claps of excitement rose from the crowd as they parted around the two of them, giving Felix a path to the empty space in front of Chan used as a small dance floor. A smile touched Hyunjin’s lips as the track began to play; the last time he’d heard it he was sat on a couch in Felix’s bakery, watching snow flutter in the wind and waiting for the sweetest boy to bring him something to eat. Felix’s eyes also lit up as he recognized the song, though a frown quickly replaced the smile forming on his lips,
“Ah man… I wish I could dance to this.”
“Why can’t you?” Felix lifted his hand that was trapped inside the pink cast, cocking his head,
“It’s not exactly going to feel good if I try.” Hyunjin smiled gently at him in response, taking his uninjured hand and giving it a gentle squeeze,
“Trust me?”
“I told you I do.”
“Then come dance with me.” Felix nodded cautiously, letting Hyunjin lead him out onto the dance floor. Other couples and kids had already ventured out, swaying or bouncing along to the music in their own little worlds, only acknowledging them enough to not bump into them.
Hyunjin felt more confident like this; he liked the way people in the crowd turned to watch them curiously, and the way the music felt coursing through his muscles. It buzzed in him as if he were preparing to go on stage. The adrenaline before a performance was like anything else in the world. At least he’d thought so until he’d fallen in love. Now both mixed in his chest as he guided Felix’s hands to his shoulders and wrapped his own arms around the small boy’s waist, creating a cocktail of joy and comfort and safety in his body that he’d never thought he’d ever feel.
“Is this okay?” He mumbled, swaying their bodys slightly to the slow pace of the song. He was sure they looked like school kids at their first dance together, but he didn’t care. He felt just as giddy as he would’ve if they were kids.
“Mmm… yeah. This is good.” Felix tucked his head under Hyunjin’s chin, leaning against his chest. Hyunjin didn’t mind the pressure, he relished in Felix’s body heat pressing into him, the way their breathing slowly fell into sync with each other as they enjoyed the moment in silence. As they swayed to the music, Hyunjin caught Chan’s eye from his little stage setup; he was watching them with the biggest smile Hyunjin had ever seen him make. His best friend lifted a thumbs-up, and Hyunjin returned it, the fluttering in his stomach spreading throughout his entire body.
“This is really nice.” Felix murmured against Hyunjin’s chest, breaking the comfortable silence between them.
“Yeah, it is.”
“I wish we could do this forever…” Hyunjin could tell by Felix’s tone that he was testing him, poking the waters to see if he would confess his feelings. With a sigh, Hyunjin slipped one hand up Felix’s back to cradle the back of his head, fingers massaging his scalp gently to prompt him to look up.
Their eyes met, and Hyunjin couldn’t help but notice how close their faces were… how easy it would be to lean in and kiss him…
No… that would be unfair to such a sensitive, sweet boy like Felix. Hyunjin knew he had to wait.
“Listen… Can we talk later? When we’re alone… I don’t want to have this conversation in front of all these people, okay?” Felix’s face started to fall so he quickly added, “It’s not bad, I promise. I just… would rather it be private.”
A spark of hope flickered in Felix’s smile as he nodded, sliding his arms from Hyunjin’s shoulder to his neck, dragging him down into a tight hug. Hyunjin buried his face into the crook of the boy’s neck, taking in his sweet, sugary scent and his warmth. He felt peaceful like this, like he was home for the first time.
“Do you mind if I steal him for a minute?” A voice interrupted their embrace as the song ended, Seungmin having walked up to them while they were lost in each other. His puppy face was lit up with an approving smile, stifling a little of the embarrassment that was heating Hyunjin’s face, “There’s some friends who want to see Lixie.”
“Oh yeah… of course. Um… I’ll be over with the cookies if you need me.”
“I’ll find you.” Felix promised, his eyes lingering on Hyunjin as Seungmin led him away until the crowd swallowed them both.
Sparks lingered on Hyunjin’s skin where their bodies were touching for so long, making him giddy as he skipped over to his post. For the first time in his life the christmas tunes that Chan played didn't seem so grating. He understood the joy and the warmth. Though he didn't have nostalgia about the holiday, Hyunjin found himself looking forward to making new memories.
He hoped they would be with Felix.
Hyunjin didn't know how much time had passed that he sat in one of the chairs behind the table stacked high with frosting and cookies. It must've been awhile because he didn't realize he'd dozed off until the metal legs of another chair scraped across the floor next to him.  He nearly jumped out of his skin, and seeing it was Minho who'd come to join him definitely didn't settle his unease.
They didn't spend much time together over the last couple days, Minho being focused helping Chan set up the hall while Hyunjin stayed in the bakery with Seungmin. The little time they did spend together, Hyunjin saw a soft side to him when he spoke to his boyfriend and when he was thinking about Felix. He wasn't so intimidatingly cold, but he clearly did not trust outsiders. Hyunjin couldn't blame him for that, he respected it.
Minho spoke, dragging Hyunjin further out of his sleepy daze. He tried to push the drowsiness away as the days of work and little rest rapidly caught up to him,
"Hm?"
"I said, he really likes you. Felix. I don't know if you know, but I've never seen him look at someone like he looks at you." Hyunjin swallowed, meeting Minho’s intense gaze as he spoke.
“Um… I think I like him too to be honest…”
A heavy palm slapped onto Hyunjin’s shoulder, startling him before he could even begin to feel the embarrassment of admitting his feelings aloud to someone else. Minho’s hands were only slightly larger than Felix’s, but his grip was strong enough to make Hyunjin quiver,
“Felix is more than just Channie’s little brother. He’s family. I love that little boy and if you hurt him you’re going to regret it.”
Hyunjin fought the instinct to turtle into his coat and hide from the intense gaze pinning him to the chair, swallowing as he managed to hold eye contact. He knew Minho was testing him, trying to see if he’d crumble and run. But he didn’t want to, he never wanted to.
“I know. If I hurt him I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself.” Minho silently held his gaze for a moment before his eyes softened, a smile entertaining his lips,
“Correct answer. Welcome to the family. I better be able to trust you.”
Hyunjin blinked rapidly in shock at the sudden shift. Minho had been nothing but closed off with him since they first met, yet now he was extending a timid warmth to him. He looked friendly even. Hyunjin felt incredibly privileged,
“I uh… yes. Yes, you can trust me.”
“Minho-hyung!” Felix’s voice cut through the music as he bounced up to them, his face alight with his brilliant grin but his eyes wary as he glanced between them, “You’re not scaring Hyunjin, are you?”
“No, he’s alright.” Minho smiled as he pulled Felix into his lap, holding him by the waist as the younger boy wrapped an arm around his shoulders to steady himself, “Are you having a good time?”
Felix nodded, grinning at the both of them. Hyunjin’s heart fluttered watching him be so cuddly with his close friend, he looked so small, vulnerable, and unbelievably cute. Though he couldn’t deny the small pang of jealousy in his belly.
“I haven’t tried the cookies yet!” Lix complained, prompting Minho to scoot a little closer to the table. Hyunjin joined them as Felix reached for the nearest tray of star-shaped cookies. Seungmin had pre-decorated these ones with gold and silver frosting, and tiny glittering sprinkles in matching colours. He picked out three and passed them out between each of them, making a happy little noise as he bit into the treat.
Hyunjin held his breath as Felix took a moment to chew slowly, savoring and analyzing the flavors. He swallowed and a warm smile broke across his face,
“Hyunjin, these taste so good! Lix looked up at him as if in awe, taking another bite like he couldn’t believe it. Hyunjin squirmed with embarrassment, biting into his own cookie,
“I guess I had a good teacher…”
Felix beamed at him, finishing his cookie with large, hungry bites. When he finished, he used the parchment lining the tray to wrap up the remaining cookies and stick them in his pocket for later.
“I’m starting to feel tired though. It’s close to midnight.” he whined, resting his head against Minho’s to punctuate his point.
“That’s funny, I caught Hyunjin sleeping just a few minutes ago.” Minho teased. Hyunjin opened his mouth to protest, but Felix let out a loud yawn that cut him off,
“Maybe we should head home a little early?”
“If you want to leave now, I’ll walk you home.” Hyunjin offered, making Felix perk up with a smile,
"Okay, I'd like that." Minho helped Felix off his lap, giving him a playful swat on the butt,
"Be careful, no more accidents." Felix squeaked and giggled, giving his friend a quick hug,
"I'll be okay Hyung, Hyunjin is with me."
Their fingers naturally locking together, Hyunjin let Felix lead him through the crowd and out into the night. The breeze had died while they were in the party, taking the edge of bitterness out of the cold air. Still, the boys huddled together as they walked, both for warmth and the comfort of each other's proximity.
Felix talked about the letters he'd read and the signatures from friends that he'd accumulated on his cast through the night. Hyunjin really did desperately try to listen, yet with every step he took closer to the house, the more his brain melted into pudding as he realized he was getting closer and closer to having to confess his feelings.
Why am I so anxious? He asked himself, I already know how he'll react. I've already admitted how I feel.
The driveway came into view. Hyunjin thought he might throw up.
"Thank you again for everything you did." Felix said as they shuffled up toward the house, "You really didn't have to do all of that."
Hyunjin paused, stopping Felix and making him look up, confused at his sudden hesitation.
"Yes, I did." He sighed, building the courage to look Felix in the eye. The boy cocked his head, sensing the seriousness in Hyunjin's tone, "I already told you this but I do like you… a lot. In an overwhelming sort of way. It really scared me to know you were hurt. I realized that no matter how hard I tried to push my feelings away, they were just going to keep growing. I- I think I'm falling in love with you, Felix. And I want to be with you. It's the only thing I want."
“Hyunjin…” Felix’s voice was gentle, warm, his eyes welling with tears much like Hyunjin’s own, “I’m falling in love with you too.”
“Do you- Do you think we can try to work this out?” He hated the way his voice broke with the nerves and overwhelming sense of joy pulsing through him.
“I would really like that.”
Floodgates opened somewhere inside Hyunjin and all the love and desire he’d been holding back crashed through his system, washing away his doubts and fears. The crushing tide brought back the need to hold Felix, to kiss him and never let go. He didn’t need to stop himself anymore. One hand lifted to rest against the smaller boy’s cheek, pulling him in like gravity until their lips touched for the first time. Felix’s arms wrapped around Hyunjin’s neck, pulling him even closer, deepening the kiss with a content sigh.
All Hyunjin could think about was how his lips tasted like sugar, how when their tongues found each other, he tasted like vanilla and butter. His lips were so soft, his happy little moans and gasps the sweetest music Hyunjin had ever heard. He wanted to stay in this moment for the rest of his life.
They finally broke away when something cold and wet settled on Hyunjin’s cheek, then again on his nose, and his knuckles. Chest heaving, he looked up as snowflakes drifted down from the dark clouds above, swirling around them gently. Felix let out an excited laugh, the flakes settling on his freckles and long eyelashes. He was so beautiful.
I can’t believe he’s mine.
“Felix? Merry Christmas.” The small boy beamed at him with a grin that rivaled all the lights in the town,
“Merry Christmas, Hyunjin.”

At the second TSU meet at the end of June, Prince finally got a time of 16:58:14. All of the members of Chikusei-sou had at last earned the right to participate in the Hakone Ekiden qualifiers.
After the race was over, the residents joined hands in a corner of the field and rejoiced. They danced in a circle with their hands still joined as their happiness intensified. They continued to turn around in their ring formation, which looked like a ceremony to summon a UFO, until a totally exhausted Prince sank down to the ground.
Kakeru didn’t join the circle, instead watching the residents from a short distance away. He did feel happy and relieved that they were able to participate in the qualifiers now, but he thought that it was too early to be that happy.
Seeing the excited members of Chikusei-sou, the runners from other universities started murmuring to each other.
“I heard that they can join the qualifiers now. That’s pretty good.”
“But there’s no way they’re going to pass the qualifiers, no matter how you look at it.”
“Well, it’ll be a nice memory, so isn’t it fine?”
They talked among themselves, laughing slightly. Kakeru could keenly sense the various implications in those laughs.
Spotting Kakeru standing a short distance away from the circle, TSU’s Sakaki approached him.
“I heard you guys are aiming for Hakone. Make sure not to embarrass yourselves at the qualifiers.”
Kakeru glared at him. He was frustrated, but couldn’t say anything back.
“Kakeru.”
Kiyose waved him over, and he left Sakaki to walk over to the circle.
“You all did a great job,” Kiyose said, showing his appreciation simply. “We’re a step closer to Hakone. From now on, we’ll train to increase our distances. But first, we’ll have a grand party tonight; after our evening jog, gather in the twins’ room.”
“Woohoo!” the twins cheered. Kakeru hid cool feelings beneath his smile. We have parties all the time, don’t we?
He called to mind each member’s best official records at this point in time.
Kakeru   14:09:95
Haiji                 14:20:24
Musa      14:49:46
Jouji                15:03:08
Jouta      15:04:58
Yuki        15:36:45
Shindou  15:39:23
Nico-chan       15:59:49
King                16:03:83
Prince             16:58:14
They were now able to participate in the qualifiers, but rather than being set free from his impatience, Kakeru’s mind was becoming increasingly filled with frustration. That was why the alcohol didn’t taste good at all even during the party in the twins’ room. Unable to join in with the rowdy atmosphere, Kakeru sat by the window.
Kiyose’s home cooking was almost entirely eaten up, and after taking a rest, the residents all began to praise Prince.
“I was afraid of what might happen, but Prince pulled through,” King said.
“Today’s last spurt was amazing. You made it to the finish line in just under seventeen minutes,” Shindou said.
“Yes. Prince’s gallant figure brought a few tears to my eyes,” Musa said.
As a reward for Prince, the twins presented him with the weekly manga magazine that had gone on sale early, which they had gone to buy from the shopping district. He immediately put aside his drink and started reading it at rapid speed. Nico-chan and Yuki laughed as they watched him.
Irritated, Kakeru muttered, “Is it that great?”
Startle gazes gathered and fell on Kakeru. Unable to stop now, he spoke again.
“Prince-san’s time is not something to be proud of.”
“Well, yeah, that’s true,” Prince agreed, nodding without lifting his eyes from his magazine.
“What do you mean by that, Kakeru?” Jouta stormed, turning on him. Even Jouji, who was always cheerful, protested with a forceful tone.
“Prince-san shortened his time a lot in three months, you know? If he keeps going at this rate, he’ll be able to run five-thousand meters in an instant by the time the qualifiers come around!”
“I highly doubt that,” Yuki quipped. Kakeru ignored him and turned to Prince again.
“Do you understand, Prince-san? This is no time to be reading manga.”
“Not at all.” Prince paid him no mind, but the twins stood up angrily.
“Stop it, Kakeru! You’ve been weird lately. It’s kinda scary.”
“He’s right. Quit blaming Prince-san. If you have something to say, say it to all of us!”
“I will!” Kakeru put down his cup and stood up, too. “We’ll never make it to Hakone if you guys keep running at a snail’s pace like this! Never! So I have no idea how you guys can drink so carefreely!”
“Kakeru, Kakeru. You’ve been drinking a lot too, haven’t you?” Shindou frantically gripped Kakeru’s ankle. “You’re drunk. Right? Just sit down.”
Musa tried to calm the twins as he held them back under his arms. However, the three first-years of Chikusei-sou shook off their seniors’ restraints and started grappling with each other.
“Don’t talk so high and mighty just ‘cause you can run a bit faster!”
“You told me to talk, so I did!”
“There’s things you can and can’t say, you know! Not everyone can run as easily as you!”
“You can say those kinds of things after you practice more! But it might be pointless no matter how much you practice!”
“That’s too far, Kakeru.” Nico-chan tried to sit up.
“Don’t get too full of yourself, you asshole!” King tried springing at Kakeru faster than the twins, but he didn’t make it.
Kiyose, who had been quiet until that point, ran up to Kakeru with a leopard-like agility and ferocity and grabbed him by the collar. “You idiot!” he yelled. “Wake the hell up! Why won’t you acknowledge that Prince and everyone else are trying their best! Why are you denying their sincere running! Is it because their times are slower than yours? Is speed the only thing you value? If that’s the case, then there’s no point in running. Ride the train! Take an airplane! Those are faster!”
“Haiji-san…”
Not just Kakeru, but everyone in the room was shocked still by Kiyose’s furious look.
“Know this, Kakeru. You can’t only pursue speed; that’s empty and pointless. You can figure that out by looking at me, right? It’ll be too much someday…”
Kiyose’s words were suddenly cut off. He staggered as the strength went out of his hands, which had been grabbing Kakeru’s shirt.
“Haiji-san!” Kakeru panicked, supporting Kiyose’s body. “Haiji-san, what’s wrong!”
Kiyose was pale, his eyes closing languidly.
“Hey, Haiji-san! Stay with me!”
He didn’t react even when Kakeru slapped his cheek.
“What do I do, he’s not conscious!”
“What!”
The room fell into panic. Yuki immediately took Kiyose’s wrist and checked his pulse.
“Twins, lay out a futon! Someone call an ambulance. Actually no, it’s faster to call a doctor. Tell the landlord to ask for a house call right away!”
Jouta and Jouji took out a futon from the closet, sobbing, “Haiji-san, don’t die!”
Shindou and Musa leaned out of the window and shouted towards the main house, “Sir, we need your help!”
A flustered Prince went down to the first floor to get water, and King, disconcerted, just wandered around aimlessly.
Kakeru, along with Nico-chan, laid Kiyose down on the futon. Even though Yuki told him not to worry so much, Kakeru refused to leave his bedside. Until the neighborhood family physician the landlord called arrived, Kakeru stayed next to Kiyose, his head hanging down.
Consultation hours had finished long ago, but the old physician was an acquaintance and immediately came running. The doctor pushed his way through the residents gathered around the futon and approached Kiyose. He checked under his eyelids, pressed a stethoscope against him, and checked for the presence of heat in his palms. Finally, he looked around at everyone and spoke a single word: “Overwork.”
“He seems to have anemia, but right now he’s more asleep than unconscious.”
“He’s…sleeping?”
The residents shifted their gazes from the doctor to Kiyose all at once. Certainly, Kiyose’s chest was peacefully rising and falling with regular breathing. It was good that he wasn’t seriously ill, but they felt drained, wondering why there was so much fuss over calling a doctor.
“I’d say he’s been accumulating fatigue from lack of sleep.” The doctor searched through his black bag and quickly prepared a syringe. “I’ll give him an injection with some nutrients. Let him rest tonight. If anything happens, you can call me again. Now, take care. Don’t let him work too hard.”
“Thank you very much.”
All of them said their thanks, and Yuki and Shindou accompanied the doctor to the front door. Kiyose had continued to sleep, even as he was being pricked with a needle, and the twins put the blanket over him again.
“It’s my fault. I made Haiji-san worry…”
Kakeru hung his head, watching Kiyose’s sleeping face. He felt frustrated and pathetic. Even Rokudou’s Fujioka had perceived that Kiyose was not in good shape, but Kakeru hadn’t noticed anything; he was so focused on running that he couldn’t even see the people he was living together with.
Prince, who was sitting across from him on the futon, weakly shook his head. “That’s not true. It’s my fault that I can’t run fast.”
Like the forest animals after learning of the Buddha’s death, Kakeru and the others solemnly gathered around the futon. Yuki and Shindou, who had returned from seeing off the doctor, recoiled at the wake-like atmosphere before they sat down on the tatami.
“If you think about it, we have been leaving everything up to Haiji-san,” Musa said.
“Yeah.” King crossed his arms. “Haiji was doing the administrative stuff like applying to meets and even cooking all the meals.”
“He worked like a coach-slash-manager-slash-dorm parent,” Jouta said.
“It’s partly because we’ve been so busy training and training, but we’ve been putting too much pressure on Haiji-san.” Shindou seemed to be chewing on bitter thoughts.
Jouji made a proposition with a purposely bright tone. “From now on, let’s at least take turns cooking. Let’s all work together.”
Sounds of agreement rose up here and there.
“If that’s the case, let’s make up,” Nico-chan said as he looked between Kakeru and Prince.
“Yes.” They both nodded, Prince readily and Kakeru timidly, embarrassed by his childish attitude.
“The twins should forgive Kakeru too,” Yuki said, and Jouji and Jouta glanced at Kakeru embarrassedly.
“Of course,” they said in unison.
“Come on, let’s all get along.” Nico-chan took the lead. “Don’t let Haiji’s dying wish go to waste. Let’s go to Hakone as one.”
“Yeah!”
The residents of Chikusei-sou gripped each other’s hands tightly over the futon where Kiyose was sleeping.
“I don’t remember being dead. I hope I’m not.”
Surprised, Kakeru looked at the pillow. Kiyose’s eyes were opening.
“Good grief, what’s all this?” He moved the residents’ arms that were complicatedly tangled over his stomach out of the way and tried to sit up.
“Please sleep!” Kakeru hurriedly pushed Kiyose’s shoulders and made him lie back down on the futon. “Haiji-san, you collapsed. The doctor said you got anemic from overwork.”
“I see. Sorry I caused trouble.” Kiyose looked up at Kakeru’s face, who was peering down at him. “But it looks like the fight is over—that’s good to see.”
Kakeru shifted to intentionally sit in seiza. “I’m sorry,” he said with his head bowed. “I’ve been so on edge and impatient for a long time.”
“Was it because the music coming from Yuki’s room is too loud?” Nico-chan said, a sympathetic look in his eyes that said, “I feel you.”
“If you ask me, it’s the creaking in the ceiling.”
Yuki’s words scared Prince, who felt guilty.
“No, that’s not it,” Kakeru hurriedly said. “I’ve felt that way since before I came to Aotake. I was just running and didn’t see much of what was around me.”
He still didn’t actually know what he should do; Kakeru still hadn’t figured out what he should be running for, other than speed. “But,” Kakeru started, lifting his face up. “From now on, I will also aim for the Hakone Ekiden seriously.”
 “What!?”
The twins’ room shook with astonishment.
“’From now on?’ What were you doing until now?” Jouji looked like he was about to jump down his throat.
“No, I just thought I would play along with it somehow,” Kakeru said honestly. “I thought everyone would get bored and quit soon anyways. I’m sorry.”
“You can train that much, even though your motivation was so low.” Shindou was deeply impressed.
“I’m not good at anything other than running, after all,” Kakeru said seriously.
Yuki shook his head with a “Good grief,” and a stunned King said, “You really are a weirdo, Kakeru.” (1)
“You’re incredible, Kakeru. You’re so incredible it’s funny.” Jouji stifled his laughter. A bit angrily, Kakeru wondered what was so funny, but then he saw that even Kiyose was nodding and decided not to object.
“I can’t stop reading manga, but I’ll work even harder too,” Prince declared, raising his face.
It wasn’t that there weren’t any ill feelings, but it was the first time that the desire to aim for the same thing had budded equally in all their hearts.
Kiyose, who was watching the scene, called out, “Kakeru.” Still in seiza, Kakeru shifted a bit closer to Kiyose, whose head was resting on the pillow.
“Do you know what’s the best compliment for a long-distance runner?”
“Is it ‘fast’?”
“Nope. It’s ‘strong,’” Kiyose said. “It’s not enough to be fast to finish a long-distance race. The weather, the course, the development of the race, your physical condition, your own state of mind... Runners calmly analyze those various factors and persist in moving their body forward even in difficult situations. What long-distance runners need is strength in the true sense of the word. We run everyday for the honor of being called ‘strong.’”
Kakeru, as well as the other residents, listened intently to what Kiyose was saying.
“As I watched you run these three months, I became more and more convinced,” Kiyose continued. “You have talent and aptitude. That’s why, Kakeru, believe in yourself more. There’s no need to be impatient—it takes time to become strong. You could say that there is no end; just as there are people who jog and do marathons even into old age, long-distance is a sport that is worth tackling for life.”
Kakeru’s passion towards running had always been an ambiguous emotion, making his mind waver unsteadily. But Kiyose’s words skillfully cut through Kakeru’s murky and wavering inner world; they were a light that flashed into his heart and flooded it, illuminating him.
However, Kakeru rebutted, partly due to embarrassment. “But the elderly can’t set new world records.”
“That came out of nowhere,” Nico-chan teased. Kiyose smiled, as if to say there was no helping it.
“I thought that way too. Until I got injured,” Kiyose said gently. “But it’s the older runners who are more likely to be ‘stronger’ than you, Kakeru. That’s what’s profound about long-distance.”
Kiyose’s words were aimed not just at Kakeru, but at everyone present. Perhaps tired, he stopped talking and lowered his eyelids.
“Haiji-san, you can’t sleep here!” Jouji and Jouta shook Kiyose.
“Shut up. You’re dismissed,” Kiyose mumbled.
Everyone quietly took their leave of the twins’ room.
Kakeru was the last to go into the hallway. As he closed the door, he turned around and saw the twins squeezing into another futon from the closet.
What is that strong running Haiji-san talked about? Kakeru was pondering it. He knew it wasn’t about arm strength or leg strength. But, it didn’t seem like he was referring to just mental strength, either.
Kakeru suddenly recalled the snow-covered field he had seen when he was little. When he had got up early and gone to the field in his neighborhood, the snow that had accumulated during the night had completely changed the familiar landscape. Kakeru had run on the white field where no one had left any footprints. He had run as his heart desired in order to draw beautiful patterns. That was his very first memory of thinking that running was fun.
Maybe strength was something beautiful built upon a delicate balance—like the patterns he had drawn in the snow back then.
While thinking that, Kakeru quietly went down the stairs, careful not to make too much noise.
The next day, the skies were clear for the first time in a long while. When Kakeru returned after his early morning jog, Kiyose was feeding Nira in Chikusei-sou’s yard.
“Welcome home,” Kiyose said when he saw him.
“I’m back,” Kakeru responded.
The morning light was shining clearly. It was the beginning of a usual, new day.

"Ojisan, did you know that a polar bear's fur is see through?" Haruka spoke up, finally tilting her head up and away from the newest puddle she had decided to attack. She decided to entertain herself as they walked back to their apartment by dipping her toes in every puddle they walked by to see how much water she can kick up without making a complete mess.
At this point, her new winter boots were sure to be soiled in, but she made sure not a single drop got on the rest of her new outerwear. She cherished the winter jacket Kiryu had bought her as soon as the cold began to hit Kamurocho. It was perfectly puffy and warm with a nice pastel pink color to it, and around the hood was faux fur that would tickle her cheeks every time she huddled up when a cold breeze blew by.
"No, I didn't know that." Kiryu hummed in response. He held her hand and their connected arms swayed as they strolled down the street. As they approached a rather large puddle in the middle of the street, he gently tugged her in front of him to balance on the narrow dry patch of land around it.
It had snowed the previous few days, which was quite rare with the usual winter temperatures of the city. Christmas Eve of course was the day that the temperature decided to heat up once again, leaving large puddles of melted snow scattering each street corner. Kiryu would have preferred a white Christmas for his first holiday celebration with Haruka, but she seemed to be just as happy with soggy socks.
"Did you know that penguins have to hold their eggs between their legs to keep them from touching the ice and freezing?" Haruka had been spouting interesting animal facts the whole way home. Kiryu didn't mind though. If there was ever a trivia night on random animal facts he would rest assured that he would win.
"I didn't know that either." Another big puddle. He pulled her in front of him again, holding her hand above her head like he was twirling a ballerina.
"Do you know any cool animal facts Ojisan?" Haruka tilted her head back to look up at him. He hummed for a moment. He never was too interested in facts-- and he never paid attention in school, so he wracked his brain for anything he could scramble up.
"Uhh... did you know that..." he looked up at the dimmed night sky and watched as his breath steamed in the air for a moment as he thought, "Did you know that an octopus has three hearts?" He finally offered. She gave him a surprised look.
"Really?" She asked.
"I heard about it somewhere. I don't know how true it is." He shrugged and scratched the side of his chin.
After a couple more minutes of leisurely strolling through late night Kamurocho, avoiding puddles and exchanging animal facts (though Haruka said most of them), their temporary, dingy apartment had finally come into view. As they approached the back alley, leading to the door another large puddle came into view, this time with no dry spots to go around on. Kiryu pulled Haruka in front of him, but this time he let go of her hand and grabbed her from under her arms. He safely picked her up and placed her at the other side of the puddle without ruining her boots and with a few giggles to go along with it. He just stepped over it semi-clumsily.
Once they were in the alleyway, something felt wrong though. He paused for a moment before moving towards the back of the building with Haruka. He couldn't understand why, but the underlying feeling of wrong itched at the back of his mind and brought goosebumps up to his skin. It was a familiar feeling at this point. By why would he be here on Christmas Eve--
"Ho ho ho!!" Kiryu tensed up at the sudden vocal intrusion of his alone time with Haruka. It seemed like the person speaking was trying to make their voice sound deeper than it is, but eventually settling on shrilling out their failed impression of Santa. Both Haruka and him turned. Kiryu wasn't even sure how he could still be surprised by the man anymore.
Behind him, standing in the puddle he and Haruka had just hurtled over, was Majima, dressed up in an ill-fitting dollar store Santa costume that sagged way too much around the belly area, included with a scratchy looking synthetic white beard and a stained Santa hat that looked like it had seen better days. His eyepatch also seemed to have been customized to have a snowflake design on it, but upon further inspection, it was clear to see that he had just hot glued a snowflake decoration to his usual eyepatch.
"Majima no-nii san--" Kiryu started, But Majima quickly interjected.
"Ah ah ah!! Not Majima," He scolded, "Santa Majima." He quickly corrected, gesturing towards his outfit.
"Santa Majima," Kiryu corrected, not liking the feel of that name on his tongue, but it earned him a pleased smile from the man in front of him, "What are you doing here?"
"Me? Oh, I just came to wish the lil' tyke merry Christmas." He kneeled down and smiled over at Haruka. Ever since Majima kidnapped her all that time ago, she had been a bit wary of the man. But after the shift of Majima hanging out around Kiryu more often without looking for a fight, she had grown much more used to him. Kiryu would even say that she liked him. "Merry Christmas Haru-Chan!"
"Merry Christmas Majima-Ojisan." She giggled from Kiryu’s side. Santa Mahima frowned.
"No, not Majima. Santa Majima!" He corrected with a pointed stroke of the synthetic beard. Kiryu flinched at the prospect of how much it must itch.
"Majima-Ojisan I know that's you--"
"Haw? Who's Majima? Wait are ya talking about that Majima? Goro Majima? That one-eyed freak is at the top of the naughty list ya'know!" Kiryu tsked at the loving nickname he gave himself, "You shouldn't fraternize with people on the naughty list Haru-Chan. It can ruin yer rep."
"Majima-Ojisan isn't on the naughty list! No way!" She quickly defended.
"I dunno kid-- the stuff he does seems like naughty list material to me." Haruka quickly shook her head.
"No! He may act all tough and fight a lot, but he's a super sweet person when you get to know him!" Haruka said with such confidence that it was almost as if she wasn't talking to the person she was talking about. Kiryu had to hold back a smile at that, and when he looked back at Santa Majima he could see a wobbly smile past that gross beard.
"Aw Haru-Chan... yer gonna make me cry." He stepped towards them, kneeling in front of her and bringing a hand up to ruffle her hair a bit. "You wouldn't wanna make me cry now would ya?" He pouted out his lip and looked up at her with feigned sad eyes. She giggled and shook her head. A smile returned to his face as quickly as it left.
"Good!" He stood up quick enough to give himself whiplash and turned towards the mouth of the alleyway, "Ey Twinkletoes! We have a gal on the nice list that's waiting patiently for her Christmas gifts! Will ya hurry it up!"
Upon Majima's request, a man dressed in a stereotypical elf costume, that looked suspiciously like Nishida, came scrambling into the back alleyway. He was holding way too many stuffed dolls for one man to carry all alone. Most of them looked like prizes from the UFO catcher at the arcade. Each stuffed doll had a little bow wrapped around some part of its body in an attempt to put some sort of wrapping on them. The stack had every color and size variety of every doll you could win.
Kiryu distantly wondered if Majima had won all of these by himself or if he had found out where to buy all of them. Kiryu couldn't imagine Majima spending his day mowing down cash on a UFO catcher in the arcade, but then again it was also very believable. The man was unpredictable
Kiryu glanced over at Haruka. Her face was covered in shock and she had that wonderful childlike wonderstruck look in her eyes at the pile of toys held in poor elf-Nishida's arms. Even if Kiryu had to deal with Majima's antics, that look on her face was worth it.
"All of those are for me Majima-Ojisan?" She seemed to be stuck in a permanent gasp. Majima didn't correct her this time. He only nodded.
"Of course. You were a really good gal this year, and good gals get good toys." He explained as if it was obvious. She smiled so brightly, Kiryu was sure he could see Majima's heart melting into a puddle on the pavement.
"Anaki..." Nishida piped up as he struggled to balance the weight of all of the stuffed toys in his arms.
"I'll grab some--" Kiryu offered, taking a step forward to grab some of the dolls, but was quickly interrupted by a sharp interjection from Majima.
"Kiryu-Chan, only elves can touch the presents." His tone was teasing, but his face was darkened and serious. Kiryu backed off and Nishida continued to struggle. "If you drop a single one of princes Haruka's presents Nishida, I swear ta God--"
"Why don't you come inside?" Kiryu quickly interrupted before Majima started slinging threats. Nishida quickly nodded.
Their gangly group made their way up the stairs and to the door of their apartment, and Kiryu quickly fished out his keys from the pocket of his jacket. Once produced he wasted no time opening the door wide for everyone to start filing in. Nishida looked like his arms were about to give out at any moment. Eventually, all four of them squeezed into the apartment's tiny half living room-half kitchen set up, and Nishida quickly got to work putting the dolls under the small Christmas tree set up they had going.
Haruka took off her jacket and handed it to Kiryu, who moved by habit and put her jacket on the coat rack near the door. He then kneeled down to her height and quickly unzipped her boots, helping her take off the soaked shoes one at a time. Majima, not wanting to just hang in the doorway and stare as they did their routine, quickly toed off his shoes and went to help Nishida with the presents. He helped the only way he could-- by barking orders as to how Nishida was meant to perfectly place each and every doll under the tree.
The tree wasn't the biggest, only standing about four and a half feet tall, and some of the synthetic branches seemed to be missing judging by the gaps in the tree's formation. It was heavily decorated to compensate for it. Two different kinds of strings of lights were wrapped around the outer layer of branches, one in a usual rainbow tint and the other in white color.
The ornaments that hung from the tree all seemed to be homemade. A lot of them made with varying colors of popsicle sticks hot glued together to make certain shapes. One a reindeer made from a formation of brown popsicle sticks and googly eyes, another a Christmas tree made from green sticks and little beads as ornaments. The only ornaments on the tree that weren't homemade were two Bun-chan decorations made from cheap plastic that seemed like a limited edition prize from the arcade. One was in the pink variety and the other in the yellow.
The look of it was so sickeningly domestic in Majima's opinion. He could imagine Kiryu bringing home an old battered Christmas tree he found on the street, then he and Haruka making do with what they have and turning it into their own. It brought a smile to his face.
"Put that one there, Twinkletoes. Hey!! Don't you fuckin' dare knock over that ornament that princess Haruka took so much time to make!" Majima growled, kneeling down to adjust a popsicle stick figure of Kiryu that Nishida had bumped into, complete with his signature outfit and a frown drawn on in sharpie.
"Majima no nii-san," Majima shot Kiryu a look over his shoulder when he was called the wrong name, but let him continue, "Would you and-- uh... your elf want some shortcake? I think there's enough for all four of us." He bought a small cake for Christmas this year since he expected it to just be him and Haruka. He neglected to remember that he had another person intruding in on his life nowadays.
"Sounds good Kiryu-Chan." Majima grinned. Nishida seemed to perk up at the invitation for cake, which made Majima quickly turn towards him and continue snapping orders.
Kiryu stepped into the kitchen half of the room and went to the fridge in search of the Christmas Cake. While he did that, Haruka made herself useful and began to sift through the rack of dining wear that sat on the kitchen countertop, pulling out four small plates and forks, as well as a knife to cut the cake with.
After a few moments of Kiryu cutting up the cake and Haruka carefully placing each piece on their own respective plate, they walked back over to the other half of the room balancing two plates in hand. Haruka made her way over to Nishida first and handed him his slice. Majima pouted out of view.
"Thank you, Nishida." She whispered over to him as she handed him his slice. If she spoke too loud and Majima heard, she was sure Nishida would receive worse than a threat. He gave a curt nod and a small smile before taking his cake from her. She then turned to Majima and handed him his own.
"Aw thank ya, Haru-Chan. This is why you're on the nice list." He cooed, one hand balancing the plate with almost masterful precision while the other reached over to pat her head.
Kiryu placed Haruka and his own slices on the kotatsu that sat largely in the middle of the room, allowing them the opportunity to warm their cold feet after dipping their toes in freezing puddles the whole evening. The four of them sat together, eating their cake in comfortable silence.
"Santa Majima, you want to know what me and Ojisan were talking about on our way home?" Haruka perked up, licking the remnants of vanilla frosting from her fork.
"Sure." Majima shrugged.
"We were talking about animal facts."
"Animal facts huh?"
"Yeah, but like weird ones. Did you know that an octopus has three hearts?" Haruka parroted what Kiryu had said earlier. Majima's face shifted into exaggerated surprise.
"Really?" His Kansai accent shone through as his voice pitched up, "I had no idea. What do ya think they need that many hearts for?" Haruka paused at the question, actually taking a moment to think about it.
"Maybe they need one to stay alive, and then the other two contain all their love." Majima laughed at that.
"That’s a lot of love to hold on to. What do you think they love so much that they'd need so many hearts?" Again, she paused, taking the opportunity to take a bite of her cake as she pondered.
"Maybe for their families? Or maybe even a lover? Do octopus have lovers?"
"I'm sure they do. It would be sad if they had all those hearts to store their love and they didn't have anyone to share it with." Kiryu’s pretty sure his teeth were rotting with how sweet this conversation was... or maybe it was the cake. He didn't miss Majima's subtle glances over at him during this conversation. He was sure the other man was purposefully seeking out a flush from him, and he was succeeding.
"True. If I had all those hearts filled with love, I would want to share it with Ojisan!" Scratch that, both of them were tyrants attempting to ruin his reputation. Majima looked over at Kiryu, holding his face in his hand as he leaned over on it.
"I'd want to share it with your Ojisan if I had those hearts too." God. Damn. Tyrants.
Kiryu cleared his throat when the heat over his cheeks became too unbearable for him to just sit there any longer. He ate the last bite of his cake and stood from his spot under the kotatsu. He did not miss the heat on his legs as much as he originally thought he would. At the moment he just wanted to cool down.
Haruka rushed and shoved the last few pieces of her cake into her mouth, earning her a quiet scold from Kiryu before he took her fork and plate. He then proceeded to take Majima and Nishida’s as well. He noticed that Nishida’s had been licked clean.
He quickly took their dishes and washed them off before returning to the other half of the living room. He noticed that Nishida seemed to be missing now, probably leaving by Majima's order. Majima now sat lounging under kotatsu across from Haruka, the two of them continuing to talk about octopus-- Majima beginning to go on a rant about the environment and octopus populations.
Haruka stayed as interested in the conversation as she could, but after a while, she let out a yawn and realized that it had gotten much harder to leave her eyes open. That's when Kiryu glanced up at the clock on the far wall of the room and realized that it was already 11:30.
"Haruka," He called, getting her and Majima's attention. Majima seemed huffy that his rant had been interrupted. "Don't you think you should head to bed? I know hanging out with Santa Majima is fun, but you don't want Mr.Santa to not come because you're up too late." Her eyes widened when he spoke as if she had forgotten that Santa was something she had to worry about entirely.
"Right!" She quickly scrambled up from the kotatsu, rubbing her eyes tiredly as she did. She paused for a moment before she went to get ready for bed. "Can I bring a doll to bed?" She pointed towards the pile of dolls beneath the tree.
"Of course." Kiryu stepped over to the tree and kneeled down beside it. He shifted through the dolls before settling on grabbing a stray Woo-Kun. He held it up. "How about this one?" She nodded and took the doll from his hands, squeezing it close in a hug.
"Why don't you say thank you to Santa Majima before you get ready for bed?" He added.
"Santa Majima-Ojisan, thank you so much for the gifts!" She exclaimed, turning to him. She walked up to him and wrapped her arms around him in a warm embrace. Majima tensed for a moment, not exactly expecting the affection. But, he quickly melted into it and hugged her back twice as tight.
"No problem princess Haruka-chan! I always go above and beyond for gals on the nice list." He hummed, ruffling up her hair a bit when they pulled apart. She gave him one last smile before turning and walking towards the door to her small room. Then it was just Majima and Kiryu.
"Where'd you get all of these?" Kiryu asked, squeezing at a particularly puffed up pink bun-chan.
"Earned them all with hard work and dedication! You'd be amazed at what I can do with a whole day and a shit ton of cash." Kiryu hummed.
"You didn't just mug a particularly lucky kid at the arcade?" He mused, crawling over on the floor to sit next to Majima. Majima placed a hand on his chest as if he was offended.
"How dare you accuse me of theft Kiryu-Chan! I earned every doll honestly I promise." He looked over at him and produced pinky between them, "Pinky promise." Kiryu rolled his eyes at the childish gesture. He hooked their pinkies together anyway, and with the new leverage, he pulled the other man closer. He went to lean in for a kiss but then paused when the synthetic beard tickled at his chin. He huffed and brought his other hand up to tug the gross costume piece beneath his chin before he collided their lips together in a swift kiss.
"Aren't you slick?" Majima hummed when they pulled apart, his hand pulling away to instead wrap his arms around Kiryu's neck.
"How do you wear that thing, it has to be itchy as hell." He gestured to the beard. Majima shrugged.
"Ya get used to it after a while. But I have a whole new appreciation for people that dress up as the big man." He sighed, ripping the garment off now that he didn't need it anymore... especially since it got in the way of his Kiryu kisses. He tugged Kiryu forward by the back of his neck and connected them in a kiss once more, this one lasting longer than the last. Kiryu wrapped his arms around the older man's waist and pulled him close.
"You know, she loves it when you hang out with her, Goro." Kiryu pulled away slightly to comment against his lips. A shiver ran down Majima's spine at the use of his first name. He ran his fingers through Kiryu’s hair and gently massaged the scalp, earning him a pleased hum in response.
"I know." He paused for a moment before sheepishly adding, "I'm glad." Kiryu smiled, connecting their lips once more. But soon their kissing session was interrupted by Haruka loudly clearing her throat.
"M' ready to go to bed Ojisan!" She called from her door frame, clutching the Woo-Kun doll so tightly to her side he looked like he could suffocate. She wore her new pajamas that were covered in tiny reindeer and carefully wrapped presents, and she rubbed her tired eyes before turning and walking back into the confines of her room. Kiryu turned to Majima once again, pressing their foreheads together for a moment and pressing one last short kiss on his lips before pulling away and standing up.
"I'll put her to bed and then I'll be back." He offered when Majima gave him a childish pout at his absence. "Maybe then Santa Majima can help Mr.Santa set up the presents, and then we can have some alone time." He said much quieter, making sure Haruka couldn't hear him.
"I like the sound of that." Majima leaned back and smirked up at the younger man, earning him an eye roll before he turned and headed towards Haruka's room.
As Majima sat there, toes being warmed by the kotatsu, Christmas lights reflecting on the ceiling above him, and the distant sound of Kiryu’s deep rumbling voice telling Haruka of all the wonders Mr.Santa was doing this Christmas night, he let out a small sigh at how domestic it all felt. It was sickeningly sweet, and yet he couldn't help but love it-- if he was allowed again, he would want to do this every year. The mental image of spending Christmas with Kiryu and Haruka, eating Christmas cake, and talking about octopi, all sounded delightful to him.
His train of thought was interrupted when Kiryu tip-toed out of Haruka's room, carefully closing the door behind him slow enough for it to not creak. Kiryu returned back to his side in a moment, pressing a kiss to his cheek and running his hand in the shaven undercut of his hair.
"Help me with the gifts will you?" He requested with a whisper. Majima nodded, and at that moment he realized this was going to be a long night. He wouldn't have it any other way.
