Eggcorns
Neologisms
Slang
Puns
Memetics
Humans constantly reshape and reform the language and I absolutely love that
My favorite thing ever is the fact that if you use a word and then other people like the word and start using the word it becomes a real word
It's like Pinocchio, but with information
Yes, Pinocchio, you too can be a real linguist

trivia
In ancient Rome, a trivium was an intersection of three roads (tri, "three" + vium, road).
According to the Romans, when people met at a trivium, they would discuss trivialis ("inconsequential things") - which eventually helped give trivia its modern meaning.

8 Dungeons & Dragons words and their origins from @MerriamWebster.
I learned a lot of vocab from playing D&D; some words are made up to fit the fantasy, so have their origins in our language.

[ID: a thread from MerriamWebster. It reads: 1. "grinch | noun | a grumpy person who spoils the pleasure of others. When Dr. Seuss wrote 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' in 1957, he probably had no idea that 'grinch' would soon enter the general lexicon of English. The first known use of the meaning defined above was in 1966." 2. "The first known use of 'grink' was in 2019." /end ID]
I almost scrolled past this on Twitter
