Did you know that with just the tiniest bit of modification, (opening up the joint in the MH torso) you can make mermaze hybrids with g3?

g3 lacks a lot of human skin tones so most of the mermaids will be stuck with a fantasy color, but I think it works for them really well!

Krystabella is on a Twyla torso, Kishiko on Draculaura, and Jordy is on a Clawdeen. I think proportionally these are the best matches for mermaze so far, I definitely recomend if youre looking for body options!

Gimmick

Each doll had a unique, sculpted tail that changes color when submerged in water. Their packaging lets out half the lower half of the doll in the open- allowing consumers to touch the tails themselves.

In series 2, the dolls each have a water and glitter filled tail.

However, the dolls themselves were not considered water friendly with the choices of clothes and hairstyles not being suitable to be submerged in water.

History

Mermaze Marmaidz are a series of mermaid dolls. On January 24th, 2022, The Instragram, Officialmermaze, released the first teaser photo of a black siluetto of Kishiko. The brand continue introducing fans to each character through silhouette images and videos via Instagram and TikTok throughout the month On March 29th, 2022: Also known as International Mermaid Day, A live-action Mermaze Mermaidz Color Change music video was released. It features an original Mermaze Mermaidz anthem.  Finally, on April 4th 2022: The first core five dolls were released to stores. However, due to low sales, the brand was discontinued and the last line, Slumber Party, was only released in one UK store.

During the holiday season, Target’s Top Toys of 2022, features the doll line.

The dolls were often compared to another mermaid doll line released at the time: Mermaid High by Spin Master. Some theorized this doll line was created to compete with them but due to the timing of each doll line’s  release, this theory seems unlikely.

Notable, the doll's eyes are used from a previous doll line that the company made: Project Mc2

Dolls

Kishiko- Name Meaning in Japanese: Child of the Seashore- is the first character to be introduced in the franchise with a teaser on the official Mermaze Mermaids Instagram. Her style is highly inspired by Harajuku Fashion. Her tail changes from pastel pink and a seafoam green ombre to a pearlescent hot pink when in contact with cold water

Shellnelle: Her style is inspired by the luxury brand Chanel.  Her tail changes from a coral to teal blue when in contact with cold water

Riviera: Her design is heavily inspired by alternative rock culture, specifically Heavy Metal. Her tail changes from dark metallic blue to teal with a silver fin in contact with warm water

Jordie: Her design pieces is inspired by the sportswear brand Adidas. Her tail changes from black to grey when in contact with warm water, and her fin reveals coral pink stripes in cold water

Harmonique: She is Riviera's sister, and her design was inspired by Ariana Grande, a popular pop artist. Her tail changes from a metallic purple and hot pink to silver chrome when in contact with warm water.

Orra: Her tail transforms from ombre pink and silver to black and she is the only one with a bend in the middle of her tail. She is the first and only Collector Edition Mermaze Mermaidz doll.

While we’re at it, I need someone to witness the insanity of Orra’s rooting pattern.

Usually a doll will have 1 densely rooted first line, sometimes doubled in the front for loose hair and 1 or 2 densely rooted lines for the parting. Viperine had a nice head of hair that hung loose from that pattern.

Orra was rooted with 2.5 dense lines around the whole head, 6 down the middle where the parting should be and 3 across the top back for no reason.

In order to get her hair to act remotely normal I cut out 2/3 of those top middle random lines, 4/6 partings and the second of the 2.5 front lines. If you look closely at the partings, two are double rooted which is the equivalent of eight partings

found this “mermaze mermaidz” at my local ross for $9! i was literally stunned by her beauty (drove away with regret, did a u turn, went back to the store, grabbed her, then left) and had to take her home with me! her name is riviera and she’s my first of this brand of doll! does anyone else collect these? ☺️

p.s. - she also comes with a silver jacket with shoulder spikes and a purple guitar! i’ve also heard through the grapevine that her tail changes color, which is so cool! should i try it????? 🤭

Official stock photos of the Mermaze Mermaidz Slumber Party were posted on The Entertainer, a UK toy shop. The dolls were posted in stock and now they’re out of stock and no info yet on whether or not they’re officially being released.

Mermaze eyes attempts part 3?

Slightly better results from sanding down the eyes to fit the tiny wells slit top and bottom but the small irises, even perfectly aligned like on purple Harmonique or navy Nera are not it.

The bigger irises, seen on pink Harmonique have a more cartoony look that is cute but needs swapping for whiter eyes.

Orra (light blue) is now just a bag of hair after the dremel bounced on the vinyl (I didn’t think of an eyepatch until after the deed was done) and Nera unexpectedly shed blue dye during a boil and I think it came not from her hair but her tinsel!

So 3 remain: Navy Nera who has a couple of face scratches and needs reblushing, purple Harmonique and pink Harmonique, all with eyewells removed. The problem here is that opening the head can damage the hair that is woven in so I’m going to try some very delicate maneuvering through the neck and through the eye holes to place better sized eyes: the hard vinyl and scale make this tedious and yet, I feel like there are really cute dolls to be unlocked... just a matter of getting the eyes right.

Mermaze getting cancelled means more of them are showing up in the clearance section, which means more outfits and accessories to harvest for my monster high ghouls >:)

Yes, I realize that I have styled this one like a personification (or I guess mer-sona?) of a Spencer’s gifts, but I stand by it 😌

They are actually pretty and the clothes and accessories are really nice, but the ones that don’t have stands are hard to balance and none of them can sit :/ I feel like if they fixed those issues and maybe came out after the new little mermaid, they might have stuck around longer. (this being said I have not watched the show or any commercials etc. so just keep that in mind).
