LOOK AT THEM. GOSH. Jenny in that coat and bodice!? She looks more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. HER HAIR!??? The boots!!! And Vastra's happy face, she's just completely overjoyed. As am I, seeing that beautiful art! The embroidery on her skirt is so cuuute 🥺Also hELLO THE SHIRT!? THE ALGAE AND BUBBLES, AND HER ARMS!? Her beautiful shifter necklace!? Gosh, and her position looks so playful and graceful all the same! It's just. I love everything about this. Also, the orange background contrasts SO nicely with the other background for the first art piece I commissioned for Turn Loose the Mermaids!

Mermaid Mina

Here are the colored versions of the Mermaid Mina concepts I released a week ago. As mentioned a week ago, I had some discussions with @grantgfan about the idea of me and Mina appearing in his two mermaid series; “Molly & the M Gang” and “Amanda’s Mermaid Adventures”. And with Mina being the goddess of love and beauty, her being a mermaid would undoubtedly make her even more beautiful. And here’s my favorite sailor guardian as a beautiful mermaid. She even has knee-length hair which would obviously make her even more beautifully beautiful. ^^

happy mermay everyone — i’m so excited to finally share the fraphne mermaid au i’ve had on my mind since forever!!! 🩵💜

please see below the cut for an explanation of the basic premise! :D

daphne is the black sheep youngest daughter of a rich family. while staying at her parents’ lavish beach house for the summer, she spends her days exploring coastal caves, learning about local myths and searching for people to share her passions with. she has an unshakeable belief in the supernatural, and has been especially fond of mermaids ever since she was a child. as an aspiring mystery solver, she instantly goes to investigate when news spreads that fishing nets are going missing from boats, eventually leading her straight to the culprit — the real-life mermaid of her dreams.

fred is a lot like ariel from the little mermaid: he is fanatical about humanity and all the weird and wonderful objects they possess. he lives alone in an underwater cave, where he collects nets, scrap metal and all sorts of other items that have been dropped to the ocean floor. most commonly, he’ll find ways of combining the things he finds to create elaborate contraptions (to varying degrees of success). his relationship with daphne begins with him simply asking her to explain how certain objects work (like her flashlight and camera), but it eventually blooms into the true friendship that both have been needing all their life.

i plan to doodle and possibly write some more for this au in the future, but for now i really hope you like it! please feel free to ask questions or make suggestions if you like. :)

Scene from my Pirate/Mermaid AU "Turn Loose the Mermaids"

Jenny ran a hand down her pale cheek, cupped Vastra’s face tenderly. “I like different,” she whispered before she bent down, connected her lips with Vastra’s. Vastra gasped in surprise, tried to pull back for a split second before she melted into the kiss, wrapped her arms around Jenny’s. The lips against hers stayed soft, the skin Jenny felt changed. Scales. She smiled against Vastra’s lips, smiled as strong, scaled arms wrapped around her body, held her tight. Through the dark water, Vastra propelled them upwards, steadily towards the light of the pale moon, as pale as Vastra’s human face had been, the face she was allowed to shed forever now. With an oddly light sound, the metal around Vastra’s wrists broke, and Jenny thought she could hear a whimper of joy. Jenny breathed each breath Vastra gave her, clung to her source of life, her saviour, so tightly. Almost there, almost there, Jenny thought she heard Vastra’s voice, so intimately familiar now. Her heart sang, she held onto the scaled woman, and with one last stroke of Vastra’s tail, they broke through the surface of the water.

so basically in this au, everything is prettyyy much the same except that aren is a merman..

after his meeting with kusuo, it becomes painfully obvious that kusuo doesnt belong there but aren still thinks hes just a cool foreign mermaid.. but he keeps asking so many questions about where hes from and kusuo is already in so much shock he cant keep up the act anymore and tells him hes from the land.. (he probably couldve just told him to leave him alone, but truth be told he had a hot merman right in front of him and he literally just found out mermaids exist ??? so why would he do that)

so after learning kusuos secret (which wasnt explained in full, he really just said he has powers and aren thinks its some sort of secret human magic) he begs him to give him human legs, and kusuo has to explain that he cant use his shapeshifting ability on other people, and the only similar thing is hypnosis, which wouldnt work.. SO kuboyasu introduces him to mermaid magic !! which isnt all that powerful at all.. they just have certain minor spells, charms, and incantations that can have small effects.. so they work together and find a way to make his shapeshifting ability work on kuboyasu!! maybe its a thing similar to saikis limiters, but its like a pendant or a pair of earrings infused with a combination of magic+kusuos powers+technology

and soooooo he transfers to PK!! (with kusuos genius+mind control, its easy to cook up a fake ID+birth certificate and all) and everything else is pretty much the same, including even how kusuo attempts to ignore him at school at first+then spies on him without his knowledge.. but theyre also secretly romancing each other outside of school hours in the literal ocean..

it definitely took a while for kusuo to trust him enough to take him on land btw so they also spent a lot of time in arens home but i havent put much thought into what/where exactly that is or about his family and mermaid friends and such..

either way, even when he trusts him, aren still messes up and almost spills various secrets a lot lmao.. it shouldn't be that hard because hes been told his whole life that humans were dangerous because they couldnt handle things they didnt understand (like.. magic) but somehow he still manages to slip up many times on BOTH of their secrets (good thing their friends are DUMB)
