I really like how much of recent Trek shows are focusing on the failures of older Trek shows. It’s nice to have follow-ups to planet-of-the-week encouunters.

This was definitely an interesting episode, though I fear my less than comprehensive knowledge of TOS episodes is hindering my enjoyment. Does anybody know if there’s a specific TOS episode this one was referencing? When was The Enterprise way out by the Delta/Gamma boarder? And which red-shirt died?
