[incorrect-baldurs-gate-3]

(A drabble I might turn into a full little mermaid-esque AU... I haven't decided how to go about it yet. Trigger warning though: attempted suicide)

Astarion had had enough...

He couldn't take Cazador's cruelty anymore.

He did not sign up for this when Cazador had offered to save his life...

Two hundred years of... pure shit.

Anything was better than this... even death.

So he decided... to hell with it.

And had thrown himself into the nearest reservoir... hoping it'd drag him out to sea far enough to where Cazador would never get him back.

And then he blacked out.

The last thing on his mind being,

Finally... it's over.

But it wasn't over.

Because next thing he knew he was laying on a beach nearby.

Then he heard a voice.

"Was I too late?"

He heard a sea lion barking and was a bit confused, he couldn't tell who was talking or where the noise was coming from because he had closed his eyes to try to stop the headache he was currently having.

All he knew was it was a girl, not that much younger than him.

He could feel the girl put her ear to his chest... and sigh sadly.

And then he realized she was checking for a heartbeat or a pulse.

Not that she'd find one in him.

He sighed, and the girl gasped in surprise.

"Wait!!! LOOK!!!! He's breathing!!!"

He felt her move his hair from in front of his eyes, and he was confused.

She let out a quiet gasp in awe...

"Just look at him..."

And she stroked his cheek.

"He's so... beautiful..."

If his heart could beat it would have stopped at those words...

No one ever talked about him like that...

Like he hung the stars in the sky...

People he lured to Cazador were always drunk and full of carnal lust...

This was different...

This was like she actually... cared.

But how could that be?

He was a total stranger.

She clearly didn't know who or what he was or what kind of things he did... but he couldn't make himself say anything.

And he couldn't even make himself be angry that she had clearly pulled him out of there when he had attempted to drown himself.

She didn't know what he had tried to do... she didn't know what he had been through for 200 years to put himself into this situation.

"What would I give... to live where you are...? What would I pay... to stay here beside you...?

What would I do to see you... smiling at me?"

The girl sighed, brushing another strand of his soft platinum curls away from his face.

"Where would we walk... where would we run... if we could stay all day in the sun?"

He could tell by her wistful voice she was on the verge of tears, torn... conflicted.

"Just you and me... and I could be..."

He finally tried to open his eyes, but his vision was so blurry still all he could see was the girl silhouetted by the light of the full moon, she leaned in and kissed his forehead... and his long dead frozen heart felt like it could beat again.

"Part of your world..." her voice seemed to echo in his mind...

Then as quickly as she had appeared... she was gone.

He didn't see where she went... she was just... gone.

He sat up, looked around...

But she had disappeared.

He contemplated throwing himself right back in, but something told him not to...

So he sighed, and headed back before Cazador could find out what he almost did...

Little did he know he'd run into her again a few months later... when he least expected it...

When he had almost forgotten about her, having labeled her as a dream, or a hallucination caused by almost drowning.

But he never forgot that voice.

A short drabble for later in my Astarion x Selena fic (AKA the little mermaid/various fairytales mashed together type au)

(One of Selena's older sisters brought her her little 2 year old daughter, Ondine, to babysit, and she's taken a liking to Astarion for some reason even though he's as far across the room as possible from her she giggles and runs up to him, tugging on his pants leg)

Little Ondine: hi!

Astarion: go away... go on now (tries to nudge her back towards the kitchen where Selena is making the little girl lunch) she's going to have your lunch in a moment I'm sure. Go away.

(The little girl giggles and Astarion sighs)

Astarion: I DON'T like children little one... so go find Aunty Selena...

Little Ondine: up! Up!!!

(Astarion sighs in defeat and scoops her up, looking at her big sea green eyes, a stark contrast to Selena's turquoise blue ones and the little girl squeals with glee as he scoops her up)

Astarion: there... happy now? (The little girl babbles something unintelligible and raises a hand to his cheek with a big smile then raises it to his hair and kisses his cheek... and his heart just melts, his eyes growing wide, and he gulps nervously, putting the little girl down)

Astarion: go along now... shoo shoo... go play with the toys your mother left you... your aunty will bring your lunch soon I promise.

(The little girl giggles putting one hand over her mouth then runs off to play with her dollies and tea set, leaving Astarion staring and all of a sudden realizing... maybe kids with Selena... if it's even possible... wouldn't be such a bad idea after all...?)

When I saw her beautiful shots of her mermaid, it came to my mind to make some romantic shots with a short love story. ~~~~ Astarion is a pirate and Tav (Ariel) is a mermaid. During his sea voyages, Astarion met Ariel and they fell in love with each other. However, because they are from different worlds (which also hate each other) they know that they cannot be together and this is their last hug, their last kiss and their last goodbye...
