Fun fact: red bioluminescence is very rare! And the few animals (like some dragonfish) that have it are also the only ones at their depths that can percieve it, aside from being a way to communicate with those of their species, the red light works like a prey revealing flashlight that no one else can detect!

Why red? Well, red is the first wavelenght to "disappear" on the water collumn, that's why so many deep sea animals are bright red! As it can't be percieved, it works as camouflage, well, untill that dragonfish comes along! Why don't all deep sea critters percieve red? Well, it's like how cave dwelling species tend to be blind, as there's -usually - no red light, they ended up losing the capacity for percieving it through evolution, there was no pressure for keeping it, so it eventually went away!

Unfortunatelly for Shiggs, the abyssal merman out of his depht here, this trick doesn't work near the surface. He thinks he's being sneaky...Poor thing.

-So, All Might is the ruler of the seven seas, you and Deku are his adopted children, since both of you came from Inko and she married Toshi.

-Inko sadly passed away thanks to humans so All Might and by extension, Izuku are incredibly protective of Reader.

-Toshinori is a protective and obsessive Yandere while Deku is a possessive and analytical one

-Like in the movie, Reader still has the fascination with humanity and desires to flock together with mankind.

-Enter Shigaraki, who is the forsaken and universally hated adopted son of AFO, a sea warlock who tried taking over the sea. AFO is actually Reader’s father, and died of a broken heart due to you being taken away -Shigaraki is an obsessive, possessive and stalkerish Yandere.

-Shigaraki had been watching over his little sibling and desperately wanted to make All Might and Deku pay for brainwashing and keeping you away from him

-Same old, same old happens, with You saving Prince Todoroki from a storm. Shigaraki catches wind and decides that now’s the perfect opportunity.

-Oh, how his cold heart breaks once seeing your precious human artifacts be destroyed.

-After making the deal, You now gotta choose between the love of your life, your family and Shigaraki

I couldn’t help but depict Yoichi with really long hair as an adult because HELLO, mermaids are known for long hair and Yoichi LOVES his hair!!

I couldn’t help but Drabble a bit in some kudoichi with this au because… kudoichi.. 🥺

and basically, there’s two ways i think it might go

(A. Yoichi is a mermaid and Kudou is a human and now their love is forbidden ❤️💔💞

(And for this second scene, I imagine Yoichi is mistaken for a siren and is therefore hunted and Kudou SWOOPS in and to save his beloved prince 👑 💚❤️)

Poor Yoichi is quite hurt 😢

the second scenario, however, could be that both Kudou and Yoichi are mermaids!! :)

Language barrier

Dabi: lionfish + black tipped reef shark hybrid

Shigaraki: giant octopus + stonefish hybrid

Dabi has two internal claspers that make an appearance when he's properly ~stimulated~

Romeo and Juliette coded

Dabi's reef: nearly no culture because they are always hunting for food to feed the huge population on their reef. Their entire society is built around making themselves smaller so that the esteemed hunters can protect the reef and fatten their food stores enough to avoid the famine they are always on the verge of.

Shigaraki's reef: way more unique culture, especially sports, music, and history, but that's because merfolk eat each other there and any humans who crash their ships along their reefs.

k soooo, i’m dumb and accidently deleted a ask that was sent to me, it was abt this mha au where mermaid shigaraki saves us as a child and we start to meet up at night after that and grow up together. I thought it was adorable so i made a very short text abt it, so here ya go (luckily i still have the text saved)

you arrived at the beach, beautiful as always

the moon, staring down at you, covering the beach with a glowing atmosphere, it all put you at ease

you sat down next to the shore, slightly flinching at the cold waves slighty touching your skin

"Hey...you there?" you mumbled softly, looking deeply into the salty water

"yea" a raspy voice awnsered from under the water

a figure sumirged from under the cold waves, he had messy sky blue hair and bright red at eyes that gave out both a warm yet intimidating presence. the tail attached to his body matched his chrimson eyes, truly a sight for sore eyes

"I missed you" you smiled

"Yea...me too"
