I have been brainstorming some ideas for what a secuol to the books could entail and I think I have come up with an idea for what I would want to see.

In twice that king Oltyx was haunted by what he was and what he would become, essentially his future. So I thought that in a coequal, we would do a little switcheroo where he’s haunted by his past instead . A little cliché, I know, but I really think it would thematically work for him, because in the books he was haunted by his past and actions, and he would constantly refuse to confront it. So why not continue with that. Because I doubt that he is going to be able to break that strong of a habit.

This has the chance of taking the form a developing plurality. Where he subconsciously separates himself into two versions. He essentially turns his past and current self into subminds. He’s going to try and hide his past away, but because it is him, it’s going to emerge when it/he is needed.

Another thing I would like to see in a sequel is just, way less pain. Oltyx is still going to experience a lot of struggle and hardship. But the difference in this book is that he’s going to be given the opportunity to talk about it with people. After of course, struggling to admit that he has a problem for about half of the story.

But the most important thing that I want to see is just flayed ones living (relatively) normal lives. I want to see people in Drazak hanging around, going to parties, taking a walk throughout a flesh park in the city, administrative workers taking care of numbers, people readying themselves for a hunt and having discussions on day-to-day life as they do.

In summary, I want this book to be the scab over the wounds left behind by the first books.

Question of the day. Would flayers use an equivalent of cat scratching pole? To like sharpen their nails. Maybe it would be called a scratching pillar? I think that might be needed in communal spaces, so that no one accidentally scratches up somebody else’s turf.
