Caregiver Merida Headcanons (Brave)

Like her father, Merida believes everyone should know how to fight. She teaches you to be the best little warrior you can be.

She also teaches you to shoot, and she beams with pride every time you hit your target.

She tells you all kinds of stories and legends, throwing herself into the role and being extra dramatic.

She’s very strict about doing (what she considers to be) important chores. You have to muck your horse’s stall, polish your sword, restring your bow, etc.

She loves to go hawking and brings you along. It can be a little bit of a bloody affair, but it’s also exciting to watch how the birds hunt.

(And if you get upset, she won’t mock you. She calls you her wee little lamb and lets you sit with the birds while she cleans the kills.)

She’s got a bit of a temper, and sometimes she gets angry during your tantrums. She’s learning to give herself space when she’s angry to avoid making the situation worse.

She takes you riding on Angus. At first it’s terrifying to be up so high and moving so fast, but it’s also thrilling, and soon you grow to love it.

Thanks to the wood-carving witch, she has tons of bear-themed trinkets, statues and toys. The two of you play games with them on rainy days.

She likes to teach you Gaelic curses, much to Elinor’s annoyance and Fergus’s delight.

Ok so I know I've been on the house brain rot but Merida was my favourite disney princess as a kid and she always will be

Merida takes you for rides on Angus, her arms around you holding the reins

You have a baby bow and arrow: if you’re good enough, she’ll give you real arrows, but otherwise you’re going to get suction cup arrows so you don’t hurt anyone

Merida helps you forage in the forest, shows you all the tasty plants you can get from the undergrowth and the moors

I hope you like Scottish terms of endearment: you’re her leanbh, her karriewhitchit, her wee cutty when you’re causing a bit of trouble

She lets you play in the mud and then tosses you into the stream to get clean again, splashing and playing all the while

She gets you to help her look for the best skiffers (skipping rocks) by the river, and counts the skips she can make 

It’s easy to tangle your fingers in her hair, and she’ll laugh before she helps you get free

You’ll be spoiled by the kitchen servants and Merida both: she can’t resist giving you sweets and candies

She’s small but she’s strong: she can lift you onto Angus’s saddle, hoist you out of the streams, and sometimes she picks you up and twirls you around

(note: I’m not Scottish, nor do I speak Scottish Gaelic! I put research into these headcanons but do correct me if I’m wrong.)

New Princesses just dropped!! My parents took me out today to get me a new phone and let me wander afterwards and I FINALLY found a Merida mini doll I’ve had a keen eye out for weeks looking for her and they finally got one in stock and I decided to nab a Rapunzel while I was at it!

Also why is Merida paler than Rapunzel when Rapunzel was locked up inside a tower for 18 years, like yeah I know she liked to sit by the window but surely it wouldn’t give her that kind of pigment when Merida is literally out and about everyday directly in the sun? Is it a Scottish thing? Or is just some design choice?
