My D&D group accidentally misnamed the NPC "Mattrim Mereg" to "Mattri Mereg" and he has become our own little celebrity, which is incredibly funny to me.
Possibly the best part is that we have NEVER interacted with him, he has just become a running bit that Mattri Mereg plays all of the background music in our campaign.

I have a very stupid idea for season 3 with the set leaks saying storm what if jay becomes a storm like he is so dun with everything and because he's shattered and an element of creation his regret and anger causes a mereg storm which takes the ninja through jays and their shared memories and the ninja need to use the source dragon of energy's power to even stay together as they attempt to fix the merg realms joining teams with arin and lord ras as they eventually make their way to the eye of the storm as they see jay half dead half alive barley holding himself together and nya with the others talk him down were he gives ups and just runs in disgust of what he's dun to the ninja and nya especially going into self imposed exile.

Let us not deceive ourselves, motorcycle racing has never been a team sport, like football or basketball. In fact, it has always been said that the first person you must beat is your teammate. If you surpass your teammate, your value within the team rises; if they outperform you, the opposite occurs, and your value diminishes. In this world, it is as straightforward as that.
During my last three years at Yamaha, my teammate was Valentino Rossi, who was already a veteran rider at the time. Each of us trained following our own methods. While he practiced dirt-track riding on the ranch he had built near Tavullia, I trained with my father in Gerno di Lesmo, a few kilometers from Monza. Yamaha had a factory and the headquarters of the MotoGP team there. They had a not-so-large asphalted area where they tested the bikes that came out of the factory. We took advantage of that space for our exercises.
It was the 2013 season, and Rossi, who had just returned to Yamaha after two very challenging years with Ducati, was struggling to regain competitiveness. He couldn't reach the podium and was always trailing behind me, Marquez, and Pedrosa. Naturally, Yamaha was interested in improving Rossi’s performance. At the end of that season, things began to happen. First, I learned that my physical trainer, Antonio Cascini (who had been recommended to me by Yamaha), had met with Rossi and his trainer in Tavullia. I will never know what he told them, but I imagine he must have explained how I trained. For that reason, among others, I decided to part ways with Antonio. Weeks later, I found out that Valentino had started training with bikes identical to the ones I used in Gerno (a Yamaha R6 and a Yamaha YZ85), also performing similar exercises. It was clear that someone at Yamaha had told him about our training routines. Whether it was a coincidence or not, Rossi began 2014 being much more competitive, and at the end of that year, after a challenging season for me, he managed to beat me, finishing as the runner-up in the world.
All the teams in the world championship have a single team manager, but at Yamaha, the situation was slightly different. Since the factory allowed Rossi to implement that famous “wall” in early 2008, they had no choice but to split the team manager role into two people. Until the end of 2009, Davide Brivio took care of Rossi’s side, while Emanuele Romagnoli handled mine. But their differences with Ramon Forcada from the very beginning were significant, and the team’s atmosphere was deteriorating, so they decided to move Romagnoli to the Tech 3 team as Cal Crutchlow’s chief mechanic and hired Wilco Zeelenberg for the 2010 season. In 2011, Rossi moved to Ducati and took Brivio with him as his manager, so Yamaha promoted Maio Meregalli to be the team manager, coming from the Superbikes team.
After the incident with Antonio, I decided to talk to Maio. I told him that I did not approve of the brief visit to Tavullia by my trainer or Rossi’s “new” training methods. I could accept them looking at our telemetry or even copying our bike settings before each race, but that was going too far. I also mentioned that, as I already had Wilco and he was more on Rossi’s side, I preferred that he stopped attending the technical meetings we held right after each practice session. I suspected that Meregalli was passing on everything to Rossi’s team. Although it was not personal, but simply a matter of conflicting interests, Maio did not take it very well, and from that point on, our relationship cooled. Nevertheless, I do not regret the decision because I believe I acted correctly in defense of my interests.

Okay buckle up I'm taking a break from weird anglo-saxon sewing to ramble about Old English terminology for a bit
@tansyuduri this is the term I had mentioned I wanted to tell you about re: nature spirits acting as intermediaries between realms
Lets talk about the word "Mearcstapa".
Its used once in Beowulf, in line 103, to describe the creature Grendel.
Grendel is, in brief, some kind of ambiguous creature and/or cursed human, descended from Cain, cursed by that descent to wander and "hold" (as in, treat as a stronghold) the wilderness forever. He has very little physical description except that he is very large and swordproof, and may have claws? Anyway, he isn't what I want to talk abt right now. For Once.
I'm going to take a stab at translating the OE text myself, VERY roughly, and provide some context for where the word appears.
"This grim ghost was called Grendel, famous mearc-stapa, he who holds the marshes, fen-as-fortress; the lands of monsters un-blessed he guarded for a while, since the Shaper* had him written in the race of Cain- whose torment was the Lord's vengeance, for he slew Abel."
(Beowulf lines 102-108, translation My Weird Gay Ass)
*a common OE term for God, meaning something between "shaper/maker" and "poet/singer"
(that is MESSY towards the end but I've never tried to translate Beowulf myself ok)
anyway it goes on about Cain for a bit after that, the usual stuff you can find in the bible, but what is a "Mearc-stapa"?
well, "-stapa" is really easy, its one of the words in Old English that changed relatively little into the modern day.
"-stapa" is "stepper". one who steps across, walks upon and generally treads over something.
ok cool. what's a "mearc"
WELL THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET REALLY REALLY WEIRD AND HARD TO TRANSLATE.
"Mearc" as a word and as a concept has not survived intact in modern English, at least not on its own. Its latest surviving incarnations are in the extremely-early-middle-english "March" or "Mark", so lets start there. I'm just gonna hit Wiki for this one:
In medieval Europe, a march or mark was, in broad terms, any kind of borderland,[1] as opposed to a state's "heartland". More specifically, a march was a border between realms or a neutral buffer zone under joint control of two states in which different laws might apply. In both of these senses, marches served a political purpose, such as providing warning of military incursions or regulating cross-border trade.
Marches gave rise to titles such as marquess (masculine) or marchioness (feminine) in England; marqués (masculine) and marquesa (feminine) in Spanish-speaking countries and the Catalan and Galician regions; marquês (masculine) and marquesa (feminine) in Portuguese-speaking countries; markesa (both masculine and feminine) in Basque; marquis (masculine) or marquise (feminine) in France and Scotland, margrave (German: Markgraf, lit. 'march count'; masculine) or margravine (German: Markgräfin, lit. 'march countess', feminine) in Germany, and corresponding titles in other European states.
Etymology[edit]
The word "march" derives ultimately from a Proto-Indo-European root *mereg-, meaning "edge, boundary". The root *mereg- produced Latin margo ("margin"), Old Irish mruig ("borderland"), Welsh bro ("region, border, valley") and Persian and Armenian marz ("borderland"). The Proto-Germanic *marko gave rise to the Old English word mearc and Frankish marka, as well as Old Norse mǫrk meaning "borderland, forest",[2] and derived from merki "boundary, sign",[2] denoting a borderland between two centres of power.
In Old English "mark" meant "boundary" or "sign of a boundary", and the meaning only later evolved to encompass "sign" in general, "impression" and "trace".
The Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia took its name from West Saxon mearc "marches", which in this instance referred explicitly to the territory's position on the Anglo-Saxon frontier with the Romano-British to the west.
...cool. that was a lot. anyway, that's what a "Mearc" is, in the most basic sense (Beowulf being in the West-Saxon dialect mentioned above, specifically having been recorded mainly in the Late-West-Saxon written dialect known academically as Winchester Standard for reasons to do with some bishop whose name I'm not going to bother trying to spell)
however, in the context its used in Beowulf, "Mearcstapa", or "Mark-walker", becomes a REALLY weird term. See, Grendel isnt wandering around the boundaries between two towns, or kingdoms, or countries. He's just kind of out in the woods, some of which happen to border one singular, somewhat sizeable town that Grendel then regularly attacks. So what is he walking the border between?
Well, academics love to talk abt that lmao. Some people say it refers to land- or politically-based borders much LARGER than a country, and that it denotes Grendel as a foreigner, from another land or part of the world entirely. Some people see "Mark" as conjuring an image of a swampy, be-fogged "no mans' land" where settling and agriculture would be impossible. A wasteland, for human habitation at least, and thus an "in-between-place" in relation to the boundaries of human civilization- somewhere you travel through or around in between human-settled areas, where no laws of God or man apply. Its "The Dark Forest", the "Past The Threshold" in the Hero's Journey.
However, there's another widely discussed thematic meaning here, and it relies on a bit of context. Beowulf was recorded by monks in a time when Christianity was still relatively new to Northern Europe, the last remnants of various pagan religions only having been definitively wiped out a few centuries prior (FUCK YOU CHARLEMAGNE), and that's the time of RECORDING- Beowulf, as a story, had almost definitely been composed and passed down orally within those same preceding few centuries, likely in the 800s a.d. but possibly as far back as the 600s a.d. . So, what this means is that Beowulf is a record (imperfect as it is, being written down later and by monks) of a culture mid-transition between paganism and Christianity, and this isn't clearer anywhere than in another passage rambling on about Cain:
(in which I attempt to sloppily translate Beowulf again)
(picking up where we left off) "...no joy did he get from that feud, but was driven far away, ill-fated for his evil, far away from mankind. From thence all monstrous births awoke, jotun and elves and orcs*, those same giants who fought with God over long seasons; this was the recompense given"
(Beowulf, lines 109-144, trans. Me and 24/7 my spn brianrot)
*lit: "evil spirits" but the word is "Orcneas", Tolkein stole it and so will I.
(again, is this right? eh. mostly. the end got rough again)
so okay, lots of the usual Cain stuff, and some mentions of giants that some scholars have interpreted as relating to the Nephelim (more context there but its not relevant to this post). However, what may seem GLARINGLY out of place to anyone reading this passage about the BIBLICAL CAIN is the mention of JOTUN, ELVES AND ORCS.
and you'd be right! that is weird! and Grendel is a part of that!
so, with this context, it can be understood that the "Mearc" of Grendel's "Mearcstapa" has multiple meanings, to us anyway. For the Anglo-Saxon people who composed and passed down the story of Beowulf, the lawless and dangerous wilderness just outside their villages would have been one and the same to the lawless, dangerous world of heathen gods and monstrous creatures that their culture had so recently left behind. Uncontrolled forces and places that didn't respect the rule of man or God, untamed, just barely dispelled and always lurking at the edges. That is the "Mearc", as it is used here.
Mearcstapa, Mark-Walkers, Cain, whatever, happy Deanmon 10th anniversary yall.
Oh, on that note- some scholars/translators HAVE tried to argue for "Mearcstapa" as "Marked Wanderer", re: the Mark of Cain. However, they are more or less soundly overruled by the prevailing academic understanding of the term...
which is that the "Mark" is a liminal space that, in addition to being the actual areas between towns/cities and the place where monsters live, is also the barrier keeping remaining scraps of paganism (ie, perhaps other gods?) out of Christianity. And the descendants of Cain were set to patrol it. And that's something someone said in, AT THE LATEST, 1000 a.d.
why am I burdened with this knowledge.

Saltellano, ballano, in braccio!
Sempre.

I think something that might happen in stormlight is merging Odium and Honour.
Why?
Because I remeber reading in some of the prechapter text things that Odium knew that if he mereged with a different shard, he will change, so he killed them instead. We also know from row that the combination of Honour and Odium creates something "beautiful".
We know from people interacting with Odiums purple fire of emotion thing that its too hot and burning, so bad. But we also know from Dalinar and Kaladin that the stormfather isnt perfect and they thonk he should have more mercy, abd then we get from leshwi the whole "would you rather worship a god of honour or of emotions".
But idk
Yeahhh definitely something could happen. But if why did odium kill Honor if he’s going to merge with him? But alternatively and I honestly don’t have much basis in it: Kaladin takes up the shard of honor. My main point? This right here.
And then also this too
#asks#jewishdainix#mina :)#not to derail from what you said but this came to me and I was like wait what#row spoilers

How sports can be brought into streetwear
Sports can be bought into streetwear in many creative ways. An idea I find interest in is when brands incorporate sports-inspired graphics and patterns into the design of clothing, such as using team logos or numbers on jersyes.
A recent trip to London included an exhibition on Umbro, detailing their contributions to football kit designs for Manchester United and the England national team.
As I walked through the exhibition, I was inspired by the range of football jersey designs. This inspiration has led to the conception of a unique design that mereges the essence of sports within my streetwear brand.
Following this I researched different brands such as Trapstar and Supreme who do this and where I will take my inspiration from.
Alongised this I created a mood board from my trip to London in my digital sketchbook. This allowed me to have all my inspirations visualised in one place.

What is a gameplay loop?
youtube
Key Points of the video:
Gameplay loop= series of repeated actions that serves as the foundations for what you do in a game.
gameplay loops can be found in every game as they are a fundemental structure
gameplay loops help keep your attention which makes you want to keep playing
Core loops are what the player does repeatedly as the main part of the game like Doom is you enter a room and clear it using your gun and pick up anything dropped by enemies
Short gameplay loops with lots of emphasis struggle to get players to come back to play but it is fun in the moment. Long gameplay loops delay satisfaction and require work before you can have fun.
To fix this games use 1 or 2 medium gameplay loops supported by a mix of short and longer ones. This gives the game a predictable structure and enough short term goals to direct them to where the fun is.
gameplay loops ensure people keep on the right track as if there weren't any and the world was totally open then players would get bored and lost.
Gameplay loops help create an order/structure of things to do
Gameplay loops can be used negatively like with candy crush they cut the loops short and then to continue want you to use microtransactions to resume playing and this works as the game is themed to make you feel a sense of success with each line of candies you match up which then makes you want to play more of the endless amount of levels.
gameplay loops can force you to spend time on games you don't actually enjoy by having a satisfying loop and then pairing that with a factor which provides a sense of progress like an upgrade system when realistically you arent progressing at all really.
A gameplay loop is the fundemental structure that essentially create a sequence of actions/tasks which players repeat in order to reach objectives, earn rewards and progress.
Summary of how they work:
A gameplay loop is themed around the games mechanics e.g. If I had a dungeon crawler I would get given my objective which would be like clear out the skeletons in the wine cellar. The player would then go and do this (Action) utilising the games core mechanics. After the action part the player would recieve some kind of feedback on how they did which makes them want to keep playing as it motivates them. Then they usually get a reward like XP or a new ability. Then they get a new objective and this cycle repeats again.
Some games have 2 core gameplay loops like with Fallout 4 (although it is supported by some smaller ones) which gameplay loop 1 is find things in the commonwealth to help you like weapons, aid, bottlecaps and materials to help your character get stronger, be able to fight more agressivley making combat easier and trade for things you want urgently and materials to repair things like power armour or build settlements. It then mereges to gameplay loop 2 which is utilise what you found to be able to complete your objectives which then reward you with XP and maybe some items then you get another objective or you need to complete another objective which will level you up then giving you the perk you needed to complete your original objective. Which is the smaller gameplay loop I was talking about which is unlocking perks as you level up to the effect your character or surroundings.
