Expectations for the next case:
Tumblr media
It's obvious that the presence of the Wild Police solving a case in a flashback is to promote M28. It wouldn't be strange if this is a Nagano case (which Gosho had also mentioned before).
Therefore, it's normal that the case will be more focused on the police than on ShinRan, who will also be present in the flashback (and on the cover of the magazine), therefore, we have to have our hopes rather limited.
Even so, beyond the fact that the next case will be a movie promo case, last year's promotional case was about Kid, but it still had a big focus on ShinRan, so, anyway, I have slight expectations that the previous case, the Heizuha's confession, will shake up the status quo of ShinRan's relationship a bit, and that we'll see some conversation between them (which will be precisely the beginning of the flashback) and that in the long run it will mean a meeting between them, that is, a new big case of Shinichi's return.

Hi, any thoughts on the 5-chapter case's last file? What do you think will happen now? Could the next issue still happen in Osaka?
File 1133 Review
The resolution of this whole Osaka serial murder and Heiji confession case was all I could have wished for. It truly lived up to the build-up from this whole case and I thoroughly enjoyed and was surprised by all the twist and turns x)
The case resolution was a tad different from what I deduced, in that the serial killer of Kakiwaki and Nagakubo was rather Anzaka Tenma instead of Kuraichi.
Tumblr media
I had once considered that Anzaka might have killed those two after Kuraichi's altercation with Narasawa, but I had eventually dismissed it because of how radical I thought it would be for Anzaka morally speaking. I clearly underestimated his corrupting desperation, as I didn't predict that his illness would be as severe as stomach cancer. I certainly also did not expect such a simple, yet elaborate tablet video trick to have taken place to fake his sleeping on the bed, and it does make me question how realistically it can fool anyone, especially if they happen to get too close. I guess it was a worthy risk so long as he could distract everyone instantly with the recording.
Tumblr media
I did however deduce his marionette devil messages correctly, as well as the motive behind it, which was delivered well in the true picture of what happened.
Tumblr media
The biggest highlight of this whole case however was Heiji's confession,... that his feelings finally reached Kazuha. It was such a beautiful page, where all of their iconic romantically-implied moments were displayed behind Heiji as he was blabbering outloud that he loves Kazuha.
Tumblr media
All of it accumulated as build-up to the awaited twist that Kazuha overheard him, in a full-spread page (similar to Shinichi's confession in London), which was so beautifully depicted.
Tumblr media
This was then followed up by Kazuha pushing Heiji to steel his resolve and not backtrack on his words and instead affirm them properly, which was another hit of delight to my fan heart ♡
Tumblr media
After that, we get a small transition to a scene of Momiji, who we finally got to see after her very noticible absence through out this case. She has just won her Hyakkunin Ishuu tournament, and yet couldn't stop her tears from flowing, which also hit me hard and I could empathize with. This was a beautifully and respectfully handled way of showcasing Momiji's loss in her romantic endeavors, while still dignifying her characterization and the future growth that awaits her. Gosho could have easily made her butt in and follow the romantic rival trope, where she tries to mess things for the pair to the very end, but he never did, and when one retroactively looks at Momiji's overall influence against Heizuha since her intro, it was truly minimal. Again, Momiji and Muga remains as not only among the best Rum arc characters introduced, but also among the best duos in DC in general, and this case further respected that sentiment.
Tumblr media
The twist of how Kazuha's mom, Toyama Sakura, swapped places with Kazuha in disguise through out this whole case was a very nice classic touch by Gosho that I extremely enjoyed. It's never a complete Gosho case without his perspective-changing twists, not to mention his disguise gimmicks xD
Tumblr media
All in all, I'm completely content with this big confession case, and I can't wait to see Heiji and Kazuha finally date and have cute romantic moments and banter, as well as potentially flashback to how Kazuha's replied (although not necessary).
Tumblr media
As for what we can expect next, I don't see us getting the Osaka cast in awhile, since this case pretty much resolved all the loose threads. I am of course expecting for us to be even closer to the Rum climax now after this Heizuha confession plot resolution (since I see Muga's role finally getting the room to potentially get revealed to have been connected to the Rum plot all along), but before that, I see us first getting the teased ShinRan childhood flashback that Gosho mentioned he was gonna tell a story about recently, connecting to their meeting with Hagiwara Kenji in M25 flashback scene (that is confirmed to be canon). This could happen within the very expected M28 promo case that should involve the next movies' cast, the Nagano trio: Kansuke, Yui & Koumei (who is Hagiwara Kenji's friend's brother).

Once, Heizuha's daughter showed off her omamori that Kazuha made to her friends. From then on, everyone in her class wanted one, so the kid secretly started an omamori business. All she does to get her supply of omamori is this :
"Oka-san, I don't think the omamori is working. I almost tripped down the stairs today"
"Oka-san, I don't like the colour of this omamori anymore. Can you make me some more in different colours?"
"Oka-san, I lost my omamori in PE class"
"Oka-san, I don't know where my omamori is"
At some point, Kazuha noticed her daughter was just being weird about her omamoris. So, for funsies, she ganged up with Heiji to corner their daughter to a confession.
"The truth is, my friends wanted an omamori as well. I'm sorry"
The two of them were amused before explaining to their daughter that she doesn't need to hide it. In fact, Kazuha was happy to make some more for her friends.
Since her daughter wasn't sure what colour her friends wanted, Kazuha just made a bunch of omamoris in different colours and told her daughter to just give the extras away to other kids.
Imagine the Hattori's couple surprise when suddenly, for the first time, they were called in by the principal for a 'concerning' matter regarding their daughter.
"Sir, Madam, are you aware that your daughter is running an omamori business?"
Apparently the business has grown so big that even students from other grades are interested as well. The business itself isn't particularly harmful, but the problem is that the limited number of omamoris are so high in demand that there have been fights and disputes over it.
"I believe that it is in the best interest that the business is put on hold for a while. Maybe until the craze over the omamoris cools down"
After profusely apologizing to the principal, they took their daughter home with a long lecture in the car.
"Didn't we make it clear that lying is a big no-no?"
"Well, technically I didn't lie. I just didn't mention that I turned my friends' interest in omamoris into a business opportunity"
"Sweetie, not telling the whole picture is considered lying by omission"
"I'm sorry"
When they arrived home, Heiji pulled his daughter close while Kazuha was distracted and whispered. "So, how much did you make, kiddo?"
His daughter grinned. "A lot"
"That's my girl"
"HATTORI HEIJI WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING OUR CHILD??"
Both father and daughter nervously replied "NOTHING!"

I Miss You
This is for the fifth prompt Old Friends for Heizuha Week 2024 @heizuhaevents
Kazuha shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her legs bouncing nervously as he intensely stared at her across the dinner table. It's been 3 years since she last saw him and spoke with him. She tried avoiding eye contact with him, not wanting to look at his eyes knowing the emotions that would wash over her if she did.
It took her so long to get over him and the massive heart-wrenching pain of their break up. She was not even sure if she was fully over him, she didn't think that she would ever stop loving Heiji.
When he confessed to her in their second year in high school she was the happiest girl in the world, knowing that the person she loved reciprocated her feelings and made an effort to confess to her in the best way possible making her feel like a princess.
They started dating after that, and although they kept bickering with each other like they usually did, they made it up for each other with kisses. They were happy, and everyone talked about how they would end up married and have kids, even their own parents.
Kazuha was in bliss until she found out Heiji would be traveling to university. He was accepted at the University of Cambridge, which was one of the best for criminology. Although she was extremely happy and proud of him, she couldn't help but feel heartbroken. He was going to be away from her for 4 years. Yes, he was going to visit on holidays but that was not the same as being with her in Japan. She knew in her heart that something was going to change between them.
At first, everything went well. They frequently called each other and every holiday he would visit, and sometimes she would. But as time passed, things got slowly bad, then worse. They would have a lot of fights that were caused by misunderstandings, not to mention that communication was their strongest suit at the time. It got worse and worse until one day they broke it off. That was three years ago.
Now, both of them were 24-year-olds having dinner with the family, Kazuha was trying not to look at him, and Heiji not looking away.
She didn't expect him to be here. Kazuha often had dinner with the Hattoris throughout the years, but Heiji stayed and worked abroad after he finished university for two years so she didn't expect him to be here. Back to his hometown, back to her.
Kazuha couldn't handle Heiji's gaze anymore and excused herself to the bathroom. As she got up, she glanced at him and immediately regretted it.
A wave of grief and sadness crashed through her, suffocating her, when she saw him. She hurried to the bathroom unable to hold back her tears anymore.
"Kazuha!" She heard him yell after her, but she ignored it closing the bathroom door behind her.
She stared at her pitiful reflection wanting to break the mirror in front of her. It took her so long to get back to the dating scene after breaking up with Heiji, it took her so long until she felt she was over him. But just one look at his face brought back all the feelings she had for him. All the love, sadness, anger, and longing.
She felt her throat sting as she held in her sobs. She didn't want anyone to hear her cry. She was no longer a teenager, she was an adult now. She was supposed to be composed, calm, and collected but was a mess.
She heard a knock on the bathroom door, making her panic and wipe away her tears.
The door opened, and there he was. Looking at her with his concerned blue eyes, asking her if she was okay.
He grew up to be a handsome man, she realized. All his baby features were gone, his eyes sharp, shoulders wide, his jaw strong, and so tall she had to look up to see him.
Kazuha curtly replied, "I'm fine," and walked past him.
Heiji grabbed her hand, and pulled her closer to him, "I know you were crying," he said, his voice gruff.
Kazuha flinched when she felt his touch. Did he know how much she missed it? Missed him? She tried pulling her hand away from his, but couldn't. His grip on her was as strong as steel. He was not going to let her go, not anymore.
If anything, her trying to get away from him, made him pull her closer to him. She felt his arms surrounding her and pulling her into a tight hug. He kissed the top of her head and deeply inhaled her scent. "God, Kazuha you don't know how much I miss you."
No. Absolutely, not. He was not going to do this to her.
She pushed him away, this time succeeding. "Stop it, Heiji. You can't just come back here after three years of no contact and say that. Just leave me alone."
"You want me to leave you alone?"
"Yes."
"Liar."
Kazuha looked up at him, shocked. He looked at her, confident in his words and determined.
"What?" Kazuha asked, taken aback.
"I said you are a liar. You don't want me to leave you alone." He said, his eyes intense with want and longing.
"And what makes you say that, Hattori Heiji?! I've been able to live without you for three years, you don't think I can do more?!" Kazuha screamed at him, her temper getting ahold of her.
"I haven't!" Heiji yelled back, "I haven't been able to live without you, Kazuha!"
Kazuha was taken aback by his sudden honesty, and how much she related to it. She has no idea he felt the same way. She always thought he moved on pretty quickly and lived the life he always dreamed of and that she was the only one in pain. The only one that felt that something was missing in her life, a suffocating loneliness.
"Heiji, I-" Kazuha didn't know what to say, it was too late for them.
"Kazuha, the past three years were hell. I tried moving on and meeting new people. I even drowned myself in work, thinking that solving cases would bring me happiness and fill the emptiness in my life,"
"I was wrong. You give my life meaning, 'Zuha. There's no happiness without you. Give me a second chance, let me prove to you that I've changed."
She didn't know whether to cry or be happy. Heiji was never good at saying romantic things, so she knew these words were coming right from his heart, and she could feel his sincerity with every word he said.
"But why now?" Kazuha asked, frustrated, "Why did you wait till now to come back?"
"Because I was scared that we would get hurt again, and at one point I thought maybe we weren't meant to be," Heiji answered, looking to the side, unable to look her in the eyes already feeling exposed and vulnerable.
"And what makes you think this time will be different?" Kazuha asked bitterly.
"Because we're no longer teenagers, Kazuha. We can learn from our past mistakes. We can talk to each other and work it through." Heiji said, desperation in his voice. He walked towards Kazuha held both her hands and looked her in the eye, "I know we can do this Kazuha. You are the one. You are the only one I envision a future with."
She can already tell that he did. Back then Heiji would never be this vulnerable and honest about his feelings with her. He matured, and she could tell that he wanted to make an effort and win her back.
"Heiji, I'm scared," Kazuha said, her voice cracking and eyes brimming with tears, "I don't want to get hurt again. The first time was already bad enough."
Heiji smiled and touched her cheek, "I know, I'm scared too. But my confidence in us surpasses that fear by a lot. Will you at least go out to dinner with me?"
How could she deny him when he was looking at her like that? Did he know just how much she missed his smile?
"Fine, I'll go to dinner with you." She replied, smiling back.
Anyone from the outside looking in would say she was stupid, but she didn't care. This felt right, in her heart, she knew this was right. For the first time in a long time, her heart felt full and her soul complete.

Can you do a Shinran fic for the prompt: "Can I at least shut the door before you decide to pounce on me the moment I come home." Only if you want to, no hurry, whenever you have time. Love u so much😘😘😘
I strayed away from the prompt, but the idea is still there, I think. 😘
Shinichi finds himself pacing back and forth the lobby of their empty house. Earlier that morning, Ran said she’d leave office early and be home before supper. Yet he still arrived earlier than her, and it’s 7pm.
It’s easy for that cryptic one-word mail from his wife to leave everything to his imagination.
It shouldn’t be too grave, else she would’ve speed-dialed an S.O.S. as per their protocol, to alert him that she’s in serious trouble. Even so, worry gets the best of him, especially when he mailed eight replies and has so far received none back. Even calls cannot connect. Kidnapped? Vehicular accident? Tripped onto your nose and you blacked out after mailing me? Number two in a public toilet without reception and you have no supplies? What “Emergency” do you mean, Ran?!
“Damn...” He paces and paces, nails subject to his relentless chewing. While he trusts his wife so much to know that she can protect herself with her limbs, that doesn’t entirely make his anxiousness go away because truly, no response means many things. Anything can happen, for better or worse. He of all people should know.
Then, the door knob jiggles. From the other side, he hears faint sounds of voices and giggles.
-
“I know I can always count on ya, Ran-chan,” Kazuha chimes, sweet and a little apologetic as she walks alongside Ran to the Kudou residence. “It’s, err, all too sudden.”
“Mou, what did I tell you, Kazuha-chan? Your Maid of Honor will always be on call.” She flashes Kazuha a genuine beam, reassuring the woman that her presence is very much welcome in Tokyo, even if her arrival is unannounced. “I should be glad work is bringing you here sometimes.”
“Same, same!” They stop at the lighted front porch. “But are ya sure Kudou-kun won’t mind me dropping by?"
“Oh, pssh. He’s probably still at work. And I mailed him although I don’t know if everything had been sent before my phone died.” Internally, she prays that he’s home before her and has hidden the bespoke wedding crest in their living room up their room, in fear of spoiling their wedding gift to the Hattori couple early. If not, then she’ll just direct the bride-to-be to the kitchen and she’ll hide the crest away from her sight.
Finding the front door locked, Ran fiddles for her masterkeys. “Either way, I’m sure he’s easily deduced that my battery died and I did errands after work. You know how they are, Kazuha-chan,” she giggles while rolling her eyes, “detectives.”
"I feel ya there. Heiji likes to make all sorts of deductions about the most mundane things, like where and what I ate for dinner. Kudou-kun isn’t a different species, I guess.”
"Hah! I bet you he isn’t.” They giggle even more.
She is about to insert the key into the lock when the door violently swings open.
“Jesus Christ, Ran!”
“Oh, Shinichi! You’re hom—”
She cannot finish her sentence, not when her lungs are suddenly crushed by her husband’s - really, there’s no other way to call it - glomp.
“Shin...i...?!”
“Ran! Do you know how freaking worried I was? I— why weren’t you answering?! Jee-... Ran, oh god. I’m so...ggh,” he drowns her with frantic kisses over her hair and forehead, arms not letting her escape from his soul-crushing hug, “Goodness, god, thank god you’re okay... You’re not hurt. Shit—”
Discombobulated to her toes, Ran remains unmoving, as if she has any other choice. “...Shinichi,” she wheezes in his ear, the only thing she can do at the moment, “can I at least shut the d—”
“Noo. I’m not done with you.”
“Um...Shini- wait—”
The littered kisses are insistent, like a loyal puppy kissing his owner everywhere on the face after a long day away. Ran feels like she’s going to explode from the odd mix of love and shame, because hey, she’s thoroughly enjoying his warmth, but there's an extra pair of eyes here. An extra pair of eyes!
“Shinichi!”
Shinichi halts at that, finally meeting her red face and apprehensive eyes that seem to be pointing his attention vaguely to her right.
“What are you...” He’s not getting it, he’s an idiot for not getting it, and she has to mouth it for him to get it. And then, “Oh... H-Hi. Kazuha-san.”
He shoots Ran a questioning look after that, which she doesn’t get why because she’s the one supposed to be giving him that.
“...Kazuha-chan is joining us for dinner before she catches the shinkansen back to Osaka,” Ran explains, soft in the ear but the bite is there for Shinichi to hear. “Since she hasn’t been to our house, we decided to buy food for us three and eat here.”
“I’m sorry to startle ya, Kudou-kun!” the flustered Osakan bows apologetically, and Shinichi returns with an equally timid bow.
“N-No, I should be saying sorry for, uh...” he clears his throat, turns red on the neck, and that’s how Ran knows his rashness earlier is finally getting to him.
And her.
And Kazuha.
Oh god, this is embarrassing.
Not wanting the awkwardness to last even longer (it’s killing all three of them), Ran initiates the speak. “Let’s heat up the food first, Kazuha-chan!” She grabs the woman by the wrist and drags her inside the mansion. “And Shinichi,” she turns around, voice becoming lower, “Gift. Hide it,” and pecks him on the cheek.
Only when they’re finally inside does Kazuha elbow Ran gently, divulging, “Ya know what, Ran-chan, Heiji and Kudou-kun...are definitely of the same species.”

Ya know, what really bums me out more than the lack of BO ( which has always been infrequent) is the absolute radio silence in ShinRan's relationship since the school trip. It's been 60 chapters since it was mentioned even?? We get BO stuff, no matter how slowly, so why is the main romance (which objectively is also a main plot) being sidelined so hard, whereas other side couples at least get something (Heiji/Kazuha had four cases in the last 100 chapters about them)
Honestly it's so sad.
Are you telling me that after everything they've done... They are embarrassed and won't talk because of it? Cause that seemed to be Gosho's excuse. He changed status quo and made them a couple, but he sort of kept it under wraps by having them not... Talk? Because they are so shy? Are you serious? Lmao
Shinichi has taken Ran on multiple dates and tried to confess on each and every one of those. He has actually confessed to her successfully to and kept talking to her after. When Ran was taking a little too long giving him an answer... He acts very forward and straight up pulls her aside to ask her to her face again if she feels the same or not... They confirm that they are a couple. And now. NOW! Now comes the shyness? It makes no sense lmao they already tackled the topic of embarrassment and shyness when we saw Shinichi constantly struggling to tell her about his feelings and when Ran took so long to tell him she was feeling the same. We even got Sonoko complaining to her and actually siding with Shinichi by telling Ran that she NEEDED to be fair to him and let him know.
So why go with that now? Because he needs an excuse. He needs an excuse to keep them from developing that relationship because this is not supposed to end just yet and so the main couple can't be ahead of the story. What is sad is that the excuse has already been used before so it is repetitive and honestly ridiculous and makes no sense at this point.
It's the same that is happening with Heizuha. No one on their right mind would give one of the main couples so many unsuccessful opportunities for a love confession. Have them in a constant "will they won't they". It's. Ridiculous. It's honestly kind of embarrassing. If THAT is what he's going for then he's doing an amazing job. But that's not it. What he's trying is to keep the story from going forward because well... You know. Money.

Scrolling through my dash yesterday showed me this video, and I instantly knew that I wanted to write it into a fun ShinRan oneshot. So… here it is. Please enjoy this very self-indulgent fic.
Game night, Ran thinks, can only go badly.
She hadn’t thought too much about it when Kazuha had invited her along to the games night – how could she say no? They were visiting Osaka anyway, so dropping in to spend a few hours with Kazuha, Heiji and their friends was the logical decision.
Shinichi had seemed okay with it as well, which had been good, what with his paranoia spiking up at random intervals.
With so very little to worry about, Ran doesn’t even know, why she’s nervous. Maybe it’s because Heiji and Shinichi always get a little competitive when it comes to puzzle games, or maybe it’s because she doesn’t know any of Kazuha’s friends but well…
She is worried. Still, she presses the doorbell to the Hattori household, waiting for someone to answer.
“Ran-chan!” It’s Kazuha who opens the door, a smile on her face. She’s wearing a pink summer dress, with thin tassels at the bottom. It makes her look more feminine that she usually does, and for a moment, Ran wonders whether it’s another ploy to make Heiji flushed – Kazuha’s been doing that a lot recently, has told Ran over the phone that it’s a sort of revenge for having to wait so long for his confession.
“Kazuha-chan!” Ran replies, stepping forward to hug the other girl. Shinichi stands behind, holding the sweets they’d brought along with them, standing awkwardly behind her. “It’s so good to see you.”
“Same t’ ya, Ran-chan!” Kazuha says, “come in, come in! We’re about t’ start playin’ Salem.”
Ran steps inside, followed by Shinichi who passes over the sweets with a muffled ‘Ran said we had to bring something, so here’, where they discard their shoes for the slippers they’ve brought with them. It had been a requirement from Kazuha – apparently they had too many guests that they’d run out.
“What’s Salem?” Ran finds herself asking, as they trek into the sitting room. There are eight other people – nine including Kazuha – and Ran has to look awkwardly for a place to sit. Heiji waves his hello to Ran, before noticing Shinichi.
Things get a little loud then, as Heiji calls out Kudo, and Shinichi moves forward, quieter but trying to keep up with the new conversation. He’d been louder, before his time as Conan, but something had cracked inside him during that year, and Shinichi’s been nervous of gaining too much attention since.
Hattori Heiji, does not have this problem, Ran thinks, despite knowing he’d worked the same case.
“Oh, ya don’t know Salem?” Kazuha seems surprised, pushes Heiji so that he’ll make some room for both Ran and Shinichi to sit down. The couple, luckily, get to sit next to one another, and Ran grabs Shinichi’s hand from beneath the table. “I’ll explain th’ rules then.”
The rules are simple, after Kazuha explains them. It’s a game version where there’s one witch, one constable, and the rest of the players are townspeople. The witch tries to kill the townspeople, whereas the constable tries to save the townspeople. Each round, everyone will close their eyes, and the witch will open their eyes to give a hand gesture on who they want to kill next.
Ran doesn’t know what to think about it yet, but she’s certain after playing for a while she’ll make her mind up on it.
“Wait,” Shinichi says from beside her, and he’s not confused as such, but he doesn’t fully understand either. “How does the witch know they’re a witch?”
Heiji lifts up a small deck of cards. “Everyone gets one o’ these cards. Yer role is written on it.”
Shinichi nods.
The game begins quickly after that, and Ran receives a card that says Townspeople. The first round goes around, in which Kazuha is killed by the witch. After a short conversation, the constable – Heiji’s friend Satoshi – decides that the witch must be Kazuha’s friend Seo.
Seo is not the witch – but the distrust means that the towns people kill her irregardless.
The conversation before hand, includes Kazuha glancing at Ran and shaking her head. She leans forward and says, “I blame ya boyfriend.”
“Shinichi?” Ran says, and pushes a strand of hair behind her ear, “please. He can’t act, he’d be super suspicious.”
During this time, Ran notices that Heiji has said nothing. She classifies it quickly as suspicious, and watches him closely as the next round begins for any signs of being the witch. Why hasn’t he talked, she wonders? He’s usually loud so… if he’s not providing any insight…
She’s pretty sure that he’s the witch.
The next round, and Ran is the one killed by the witch.
It’s blamed on another of Kazuha’s friends – Satoshi says that it seems like they’re targetting taken girls out of jealousy, and blames one of the only single girls at the table. She is not the witch.
This time, when the next round begins, Ran doesn’t needs to close her eyes, she’s dead in the game after all, so she’s allowed to have knowledge of the witch. And as everyone closes their eyes, the game master telling the witch to open their eyes and claim who’s been killed, Ran glances towards Heiji.
She waits, because he’s been acting so suspicious, he has to be the witch, but he does not open his eyes. After a second of Heiji not opening his eyes, she turns to glance at everyone else. And that’s when she sees it.
Shinichi, open eyes, glancing at her with a smirk.
Ran does not know who he decides to kill next as the witch, because she cannot focus on anything other than the angry betrayal that spreads through her. She’s not actually mad, but he’s tricked her and he’d told Kazuha he wasn’t the witch right before he’d chosen Ran as his next victim.
Ran squeezes his hand under the table, something she hopes hurts, ever so slightly.
Her boyfriend is the witch.
And Ran can’t even be mad about it, can’t even yell at him for taking advantage of her good-willed nature because they’re still in the middle of the god-damn game and that would be giving his identity away. Instead, Ran just vibrates with irritation, schools her expression into one of fake calm and pretends she’s not as mad as she is.
Between Heiji not being the witch – why was he acting suspiciously? - and Shinichi being the witch – why wasn’t he acting suspiciously? - Ran does not know how to think.
The game continues, and she tries desperately to sort her head, but it’s impossible. Something so small, and she feels angry anyway. Such a stupid game, god.
“Ran,” Shinichi whispers as the game continues, “you’re crushing my hand.”
“Good,” Ran responds.
Once the game has finished, Shinichi outed as a witch, she finally unleashes the resemblance of her annoyance. She glances at Heiji, bites into her lip before moving nearer and saying, “why were you so suspicious if you weren’t the witch at all?”
Heiji rubs the back of his head, offer a sheepish smile. “I’m not allowed to talk in these games, because I always give the culprit away immediately.”
Well… that makes sense. Now she turns to Shinichi, whom she’s pretty sure already knows he’ll be sleeping on the couch today – she’s never been so betrayed over a game in her life – crossing her arms.
“You.”
(Later, when Kazuha’s friends ask why Ran is so distressed, there will be too answers. Kazuha will say that it’s because her boyfriend openly killed her as the witch in the second round, and that betrayal like this is unforgivable. Heiji, however, will say that Ran is simply not used to losing games, because she’s usually so friggin’ lucky.)
“Me.” Shinichi responds.
“You tricked me,” Ran says, and she crosses her arms, narrows her eyes at him. She gives him a look that practically reads, 'how dare you?’
Perhaps her earlier comment about how Shinichi couldn’t be the witch has stuck with him, because Shinichi offers her a grin, a sadistic expression that hardly seems fair at all, as he leans forward and says, “looks like I can act, huh Ran?”

Curious to know your opinion of Heizuha 😝
Sorry for the late answer and Thanks for asking! OwO
Opinion about HeiZuha?
I think they're so cute together especially when they were fighting. Their fights are always funny and I love it. Both of them are so strong as one has aikido and another one has kendo. They would put their life to protect each other.
Sometimes I thought them as couple already becauseeeee reallyyy their fight just make them look like one. And i pity both of them as Both of them knew that both of them love each other. The thing is... Every single time they wanted to confess, there would always interruption. There's one time when the scenery was so beautiful and all but fish the police with their helicopter. My heart broke you knowwwww.
Did I mention how Kazuha knew Heiji's habit? That's so cuteeee for me kehkehkeh.
P/s: I love their fight because they always call each other stupid everytime they fight. They are both adorable tsundere and noooo one can change my mind hmphhh.

Hey! I miss your interview mania. Can you give us some cute little romantic headcanons about the three main couple!
Sorry that this has been sitting in my inbox for so long. To be honest, it was mostly because I had no idea how to answer this. I am actually terrible at headcannons I think because the things that qualify, I tend to sprinkle throughout my fics so some of these may already be stated in the fic :/ I didn't want to say no though so I did my best. If there was a specific thing you were curious about or specific topic for headcannons you can try to let me know that and I can try again if this was lacking! They are probably also lacking in the cute department :/
Cute(It tried :/) Headcannons for the three main couples of the Interview Mania AU:
ShinRan~
*Shinichi is actually quite messy. Ran didn't notice too much the first few times she went to his house but after becoming more comfortable it was all she could focus on. It's part of the reason Shinichi had a cleaning service come in- a fact Ran was horrified by. What a dumb extra- not to mention LAZY, expense. Of course Shinichi doesn't understand her problem. It's not one of HER expenses but still, Ran won't stand for it. After Ran has Shinichi un-hire (she gets mad when Shinichi patronizes her and says that she made him fire them) the cleaning service, she takes it upon herself to keep after him. Of course not without laying down some rules. Rules that Shinichi tends to 'forget' when Ran isn't there for a long time
*Ran's English is not good. It's not terrible. She did alright when learning in school. But it could be better and seeing as her work is mostly done in the States, Ran wants to improve it. It's a little embarrassing to her to have a translator for the tougher vocabulary that just never stuck. Shinichi never struggled with English- not that he could remember. His parents traveling as they had before, he was taught it at a young age. A little jealous at his natural knowledge, Shinichi agrees to help her learn. Which turns into him speaking only English when they are alone. Which QUICKLY becomes extremely frustrating for Ran. Especially when all Ran wants is for Shinichi to pass her a napkin and in perfect English and sounding like a foreigner says "What? I don't speak Japanese." It's only when Ran says in perfect English that he's pissing her off, does Shinichi lay off a little. In the end, Shinichi's method- even though it was annoying, seemed to work.
HeiZuha~
*Heiji has this extremely bad and embarrassing habit, of handing money to Kazuha. And literally HANDING. She'll be talking with Ran and mention she'll go to the store with her and Heiji will overhear and pull out his wallet and put a wad of cash right into her hand. It's humiliating. It's not only in front of just Ran. He does it all the time no matter who is watching. Clearly Heiji doesn't care. But Kazuha does. It's motifying and humiliating. Does he not think she can take care of herself? He thinks so lowly of her because he's some big and popular athlete. Taking advice from a friend (sort of) Kazuha explodes on him one day. Stop humiliating me in front of everybody! Let me take care of myself! Heiji is annoyed. He doesn't understand why she cares so much. It's only when she compares him to her father handing her money to go to a mall that Heiji starts to really listen.
KaiAo~
*Aoko never laughs in public. Especially working. She takes her job seriously. A girl in charge of the security team guarding the Tokyo Spirits- she's proud of herself for where she is. Kaito thinks she could loosen up though. It's why he goes out of his way to make her laugh and do cringey jokes in front of her. Because he knows the truth. In private, Aoko is always smiling and laughing at his antics. He's not doing it for himself. He knows he's a riot. He knows he's hilarious. But Aoko deserves to wear her real face in public. It's very cute.

I love Rei too!
Tumblr media
Little confession- #2
At first I didn't like Shuichi like that you know. I was really focused on the plot, mystery, tricks and cracking alibi tricks. I was crazy at that time. But I was deeply invested in Shinran and Heizuha at that time.
And once my friend asked about it if I like/love Shuichi' character like that so it came into my mind. Since Gosho said that Shuichi won't talk to him and will stay silent if they both go out for a lunch. It was a turn off for me. But Amuro have a different personality so I liked him more than Akai. He will talk and is really sweet ❤️ I like that kind of men❤️
But
Thank you every red starling FF writers, because of you I really love this character now 😩😂. They portray his character so beautifully and his hotness coughs* (he is hot anyways🙈 Yeah I'm shameless 😂). But he is for our Jodie Sensei 😤( strictly for me!). And I'm wasted on him😂. He talks less but when he loves someone, he becomes very serious for them.❤️
And thank you @redstarling Her new post about Shuichi's Character, made me fall for him more 😂🙈❤. I never imagined if he is a family man and likes/loves children! I thought he and Jodie won't have kids😢 But with time and putting RS stuff in my mind I somehow have a rough idea how he will be on dates etc🙈😂. I mean, there has to be a reason that he made two women crazy for him😂 to the point that both can die for him.
Here is the post btw👇
And now plot is so focused on Akai so I can't help it either 😂
I love both but Shu got my heart 🙈❤️😂

.
.
Three more items in her homework until Kazuha calls it a night. Today has been really tiring and she cannot wait to put on her night mask to get her beauty sleep. That’s the only thing left to do, noting that it’s already past ten o’clock and her boyfriend might have already passed out from exhaustion upon reaching home.
So when she gets an incoming call from him, she is honestly surprised.
“Yo, Kazuha.”
“Heiji!” she leans back her chair, droopiness forgotten. No matter what time of day it is, his loud, soulful voice always manages to cheer her up.
“Yup, case done.” On his end, she hears the close of a door. “Just got home and am so tired.”
“If ya aren’t such a case magnet like Kudou-kun,” she giggles, thinking about the crumpled face he’s probably sporting at the mention of his friend. “Wish I could make ya some hot choco before bed. You deserve a long rest.”
"Oooh, betcha I do.” A cabinet door creaks, most likely to hang his green jacket on the inside hook. “Kinda sucks that you havta leave ahead for your tutoring job tho’.”
“Well, what can I do,” she sighs deeply, “We’re both needed in diff’rent places.”
“I know,” he huffs. He’s probably pouting. She thinks it is kind of cute.
“Why did you call, Heiji?”
"Just wanna know ‘bout your day.”
“Huh? We’re together for more than half a day.”
“I know, before we were interrupted by that freakin’ dead body. Just,” he takes a deep breath, “we haven’t really been together for weeks, you feel me? We’ve been very busy.”
“You’re right, I was just... thinkin’ the same thing,” she replies coyly, thinking about their clashing schedules outside school, their weekend filled with independent chores and last-minute errands, and how all these make her so lonely, not to mention a little touch-starved... ‘Two weeks. It’s been two weeks.’
“Everytime we’re out together you either get stuck on a case or I havta leave early for my part-time job,” she explains, more for herself than for him.
“Yeah, and I miss ya.” Her heart leaps at the suddenness of it. Here she is thinking of her depravity problem but there he is being openly sweet all of a sudden. It makes her want to slap her guilty self.
"I miss ‘ya, too.”
“Miss ya so much.”
His voice is weak on the speaker, but the hoarseness is audibly clear. She catches a subtle lilt in his tone that makes her believe he isn’t merely being sweet.
Thinking about it makes her heart pound loudly.
She bites her lip, drawls back, “Miss ya so much more.”
The detective seems to be entertaining the thought when she hears him do that sharp exhale always accompanying his smirk. For an unaccustomed ear, it’s barely noticeable. For Kazuha, it’s as clear as a rocket blasting off right in front of her.
“Ya ‘bout to sleep now, Heiji?” she asks, trying to sound unaffected.
"Yeah. Took off my dirty clothes and changed to a black tank top. Changin’ my pants in a bit.”
She snorts. “Thanks for that piece of information.” She hears him grin on the other end.
“And you? Gettin’ ready for bed?”
“Yes,” she abandons her stuff on the desk and makes a beeline for her bed, stomach flopping on its softness. “My bed’s so comfortable.”
This time she can actually see him grinning. “Makes sleeping much more comfortable if you also wear comfy clothes, no?”
“U-huh, ‘am actually wearing very comfy clothes right now.”
“What kind?”
“Grey boyshorts, a size smaller than what I usually wear so they’re a little... tight on my butt,” she bites her lip, hoping he can hear the tease through the speaker. “And also,” talking about her loose, worn-out tees is boring, so she fibs a little, “I am wearing that silky night dress I bought from Gelato Pique.”
There is stillness on his end, save for static and a whirring fan. The ominous silence could’ve bothered her if not for the fact that she’s certain he’s taking his time forming a vivid image in his mind with the outfit she enthusiastically described.
Then, he airs a laugh. Low, a little playful. "What can I say, I’m well fed.”
She giggles, matching his playful lilt. “You’re welcome, Heiji.”
She’s about to roll to her side when he follows up quickly, "What about your bra?”
Her heart lurches in her chest. Slowly peering under her shirt with her lip between her teeth, Kazuha confirms what she already knows. “Not wearing any.”
A quivery sigh blows on the receiver, followed by a silent groan of ‘Ah, fuck me.’ He must’ve not intended for her to hear it but she does anyway.
A pompous smile slips to her lips. So we’re doing this.
Leaning on her side to face the wall, she channels the sultriest voice she can. “How’s my image in your head, Heiji?”
“Good.” His tone is huskier than normal, and there is faint ruffling of his sheets in the background. Either he just sat down or is rolling over it, alleviating something pitching in his pants. “Very good, honestly. If you’re thinking of stopping, I’m telling you that I don’t wanna, Kaz’ha.”
“Hnn.” She may look crazy leering on the wall of her room as she imagines Heiji on the bed staring back at her with those needy bedroom eyes he wears when hungry. She nips on her bottom lip, suppressing any sound that might give her away this early. Teasing him is so much fun.
“Yet here I am thinking that I don’t want you to just... imagine me, Heiji.”
“Who says I’m just imagining you?” There it is, the mischievous swing in his voice that makes her wet every single time he whispers it against her ear. “Guess what else I’m ‘bout to do.”
“Touch yourself?” she replies straightforwardly. He sniggers.
“You havta say my name first.”
Kazuha closes her eyes, helping herself to the image of her hot boyfriend burned in her eyelids. “Heiji.”
“Louder.”
“Heiji,” his name is an exhale of breath but it’s enough to make him groan on the other end. She doesn’t know at what point she’s placed a pillow between her legs or when her left hand slides inside her shorts to circle her clit over her underwear.
"Kazuha,” she hears the sheets rustle again in addition to the faint clanging of what seems to be a metal buckle of a belt. “You gotta stop makin’ me so fuckin’ hard when I’m this tired. Take responsibility.”
"Yes, Sir.” She isn’t going to let him rest easy. Not after their two-week abstinence.
Heiji doesn’t seem to mind one bit, especially with the ‘Sir’ part.
“You gonna help me on this?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Then ya gotta do something, too.”
“Bold of you to assume I ain’t doing anything yet.”
“Oh?” he muses, intrigued. “How many fingers?”
“One.”
“Make it two,” he orders, “imagine they’re mine.”
Her ring finger slides in to join her middle one, making squelching noises akin to one juicy lemon being squeezed out its nectar. It’s unbelievable. One minute they were whispering sweet I miss you’s in each other’s ear, the next minute she has her fingers drowning in her heat while he beats his cock to their downright filthy exchange.
"I can hear you soaking wet from here.” Lust bleeds out his voice, making her head spin and her touches more sensitive. She moans from his words and her fingers.
“Imagine me in and out you, my thumb rubbin’ that cute pink clit until it’s sore. You like it when I do that?”
“Nn, yes,” she purrs unconsciously, her brain dissolving into nothing but a mush of pure sensation. She wiggles her hips, adjusting at an angle while she obediently twirls her thumb in messy circles above her pearl, but pauses for a whimper when the pad of her middle finger touches a rough, almond-like texture inside.
“Hit a right spot, didn’t you?” he asks, gutturally. She replies with another high whimper.
"God, this cock misses you,” he simpers, “misses fucking that tight little pussy over my desk and hitting that g-spot.”
“Fuck me on my desk, Heiji,” she begs. She remembers the times they did it in his room, but his desk has slightly uneven legs that it squeaks and creaks and makes so much unnecessary noise definitely dangerous for covert operations. Her desk is much bigger and more stable though, and it conveniently levels just a little below Heiji’s hips much to their angular preference.
"Shit. What a dirty slut you are,” he grunts, amused at his girl’s dirty speak. On the other end he smears his glistening precum with his thumb around his ring before pumping his length at an ever increasing speed. “You imaginin’ it, babe? Your ass in the air as I fuck you from behind on that desk you’re lookin’ at right now?”
Yes, she’s eyeing the desk across her bed. Yes, she’s imagining herself bent over while Heiji pummels in and out of her with his large, calloused hands over her bouncing ass. Yes, she cannot prevent the melodious moan that sings out her mouth and the thumb working faster over her nub as she plays the scene in her head over and over like a sex tape.
“Keep moaning, babe,” he says, equally as breathless as she is.
“Y-Yes, Heiji, ‘m getting close,” at this point she’s forming words out of air rather than voice. “More, more.”
“Put me on loudspeaker. Play with your tits with your other hand.”
She drops her phone beside her ear and does as she is told. The mind-blowing pleasure of repeatedly flicking her nipple and clit while her boyfriend talks her to it with his expertly dirty mouth is causing a dangerous heap of potential energy to amass inside her belly. She can already sense an earth-shattering explosion resulting from this.
“Fuck, you’re such a minx, moanin’ like that while you touch yourself at the thought of me,” he still speaks straight but she knows - with the puffy breath and quivering vowels - that he’s as close to his climax as she is to hers, “So tempted to break into your house and fuck you on your desk for real.”
“P-please do!” she cries on the receiver.
“Yeah?” he grunts stiffly.
“Yes!” she bucks her hips onto her palm, feels her walls clenching around her wet fingers, “Ah, I’m about to, I’m coming-”
There is a click and Heiji’s line goes dead.
It takes ten seconds before the blaring beeping tone registers in her hazy brain, another ten seconds for her melting pot of orgasm to fizzle out... slowly.
Her stomach curls back, muscles relax without achieving any tiresome constriction. If she has wings, it’s like they’ve been severed and she’s pummeling headfirst down to earth.
She is so ready to overflow, so ready.
“Heiji?!” Kazuha finally screams his name, not because of the reason she is expecting but because... Heiji. That fucking twerp. Gone. Line dead.
Oh, she feels as betrayed as she is mad.
Five painfully long minutes pass and she is at loss for words as her phone is from lack of new notifications. Still huffing but now emptily at this point, she stares at her ceiling befuddled, face heating up from crippling fury and embarrassment.
Seriously? Did he just leave her in this state?
Too tired and foiled to stand up, she wipes her dirty fingers against her clean sheets. She is about to think him the worst boyfriend ever for doing that on purpose when her phone vibrates successively. She checks, three mails at once.
Fuuvk, Kazuha, fuuck fukc fuck
Old hag knocked on the door. Asked me to repair smth. Had to hang up. Didnt finish.
Fvck
A fourth mail arrives ten seconds after the last. She glares at the three bright words on the screen.
Did you come?
She snorts quietly to herself. There he is, swooping in her inbox in the nick of time, just before she commences the mental Heiji-voodoo she plotted twenty seconds ago.
Kazuha replies with a series of nose-flaring emojis and one thumbs down in the end. ‘You shit,’ she thinks but doesn’t type it down.
She waits a few seconds before she receives another mail.
Your mom and dad already asleep?
Yes, she replies.
Another two minutes pass and she lets her phone slide down her hands. A ping, a ring, she needs something, anything to let her know this isn’t over. She isn’t about to let herself sleep with this ache uncured between her legs.
He isn’t about to let her sleep with this ache uncured between her legs, right?
“Fuck me,” with an unhappy exhale, she sinks into her pillow and groans.
Then her phone pings. She opens it.
Rushing to my bike. Fifteen minutes max. Leave ur window unlocked
Kazuha sits upright, feels a wild spike of adrenaline traveling her nerves down her stomach and settling on her heated core that has pulsed back to life.
Oh shit oh shit oh shit. Oh my.
Fuck her, indeed.
With a pathetic grin on her face, she types a quick reply before rushing on her feet to do two things: dive to her closet to change into his most favorite nightgown, and sweep away the messy clutter of pens and notes above her big, sturdy mahogany desk.
Clock is ticking, Heiji. Love ya.

While this is a blog for ShinRan, I wanted to give my opinion about the expectations some people put on Heizuha's development: don't get your hopes up or expectations too high.
Heizuha is a secondary couple, and it's known that when Gosho closes a couple's plot, he starts to leave them aside. There hasn't even been ShinRan content in almost 7 years since Kyoto, and they are the main couple!! What do you expect from a secondary couple, who lives in another city?
Honestly, I think that from now on, they'll just mention, as background, some things about them as a couple, but now Heiji's cases will be more focused on solving mysteries with Conan than on romance, since his romance plot has already been closed.
I know everyone wants to know a lot more about their budding relationship, but let's be realistic. Not even ShinRan has had a proper development (in fact they barely interact), what do you expect for the other couples? I think ShinRan will talk about them over the phone in the next case, but the romance will again turn more to ShinRan than Heizuha, since now they no longer have any impediments and the plot is already closed (Gosho doesn't usually develop couples much once they're paired up).

Hey bro, any thoughts on the latest files with Heiji and the monks? What about that easter egg for the next case, regarding that long lost detective that will be back, is Gosho hinting at Saguru? Or just Shinichi? Do you think the next files could be Rum arc resolution?
File 1116-1118 Review
Tumblr media
I enjoyed the case a lot overall. Already starting from File 1116, Ran was getting a proactive role in the Heizuha romance plot, which I found so refreshing and endearing (since Ran has gotten so sidelined lately).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole monk themed case was a such a nostalgia trip as well, and I love how Gosho also gave our other Mouri, Kogoro, a proactive role in the case, showcasing once again his judo moves.
Tumblr media
As for the Heizuha confession build up, that started since File 1113 (Muga shinkansen case), contrary to my expectations, it still didn't pay off in any way, as Heiji once again failed due to forgetfullness (File 118), despite Ran's efforts.
Tumblr media
What however made this quite disappointing was that even the Hyakunin isshu tournament setup from the previous case was also resolved off-screen and didn't remain as a potential plot-thread to a future official confession case setting. However, that very same Momiji scene that resolved the tournament setup also gave a teaser/foreshadowing to Momiji potentially starting to act more actively towards her romantic goals with Heiji. She referenced a Hyakunin isshu poem that bears a similar message to "time is money", where she mentions that time can easily pass by in the blink of an eye if one keeps acting indecisive (File 1118), as if she is planning on officially making her move soon.
Tumblr media
This could be Gosho still building on the confession-anticipation momentum from the this and the previous case, and that the next upcoming case could still tie into the Ōoka/Heizuha subplot in some way as the official confession case approaches. If not, then it will truly feel like Gosho wasted an actual opportunity of building up tension towards an eventual confession.
As for the teaser of a long lost detective finally reappearing in the next case, it does fit with the idea of it being Hakuba Saguru (who fans have kept nagging Gosho about when he will return in DC). This also fits with the AC teaser that he will be drawing a vertical double-spread magazine cover featuring Kid.
Tumblr media
While this may seem as an immediate confirmation that it will be a Kid case and that there will be no further Heizuha/Ooka material in the next case, there is still potential that Gosho is actually planning on intertwining them again, like in Fairy's lips case (File 1018-1021) & Queen's bangs case (If the falcon elder is Former prime minister [FPM] Ōoka). This is due to Gosho also promoting M27, which is a Heizuha-Kid Movie, in the same magazine as the double-spread, and he also teased in another AC that he will be drawing the Naniwa (Osaka) duo in the poster art for M27.
Tumblr media
In other words, there is still hope that Momiji's teaser in the latest chapter bares importance in the following Kid case. Also, if the ongoing speculation that the falcon motif seen with the Falcon elder belongs to the Ōoka family and that they are related to Hakuba Saguru (who has his own Falcon pet) is true, then this upcoming Kid/Hakuba case would further be inviting more Ōoka/Heizuha material (that potentially keeps the Heizuha plot streak going).
While not impossible, these AC teasers does lessen the chance of us getting Rum climax in the upcoming case, unless the teased detective was meant to be Shinichi all along (which I currently feel is unlikely, since Crimson School Trip did not happen too long ago).

The Heizuha fic is so lovely!! Funny and amusing!!! You got Heiji's character so well. You said English is not your native language but the english is damn fine. Anyway thank you for the good read and happy holidays!!
Oh no Anon, come on out so I can thank you properly!!
You don't know how happy I am to read this because this is the first time I've ever written Heizuha 😂😂 and not to mention I haven't written anything in a long time, so I feel like the fic doesn't really reflect my best work.
But you!! You made my day 😊😊😊
