Part 2
A dark!Druig Fanfic | Druig x reader | Scream crossover
Part 1 | Masterlist |
Summary: The origins of a mysterious masked killer... who just so happens to be a god.
Note: Chap 2 is here :))) I hope you guys enjoy this story!
Warnings: mentions of blood, light gore, death, murder... lol
Wordcount: 2.5k - a little shorter but i wanted to get it out sooner
Sleep did not come easy, as the events of the night flashed in your mind, one after another, leaving you tossing and turning in bed. There was clearly no way you could fall asleep after what happened, and the murky fate that now lay just on the premise of your thoughts… you came into contact with the god of death.
He was just a myth, a scary story told to kids to easily spook them. Horror novels and movies were born out of the lore surrounding him and his favored mask that adorned his face during his kills. He was just a halloween decoration, an adjacent theme to a favored holiday… he couldn’t possibly be real, could he?
Your question was answered after sleep finally eluded you into a chaotic induced nightmare. Awaking with a startled scream, you sat upright, panting as you attempted to catch your breath. You had been back in the alley, the pale face of the poor blonde illuminated through the smoke by the flickering streetlight above. Golden strings of what looked like cosmic stardust had begun swirling around you, their origins coming from the dark figure who stood at the end of the alley. They had wrapped themselves around your wrists, your arms, your body until the suffocating feeling they brought with them awoke you from your sleep.
“What is it?!” Celia screamed, as she burst into your room, a frying pan in her hands, ready to attack. She looked around, attempting to locate the danger.
“I-I’m sorry, it was just a bad dream,” you said in between breaths. Celia lowered the frying pan, concern flickering across her features as she watched you closely.
“Are you okay?” She asked.
“I think so-,” you began to answer, but were quickly silenced by a burning sensation twisting around your wrist.
“Shit!” You cried out, fumbling to turn on the lamp. Celia rushed over to help, white you held your wrist closely. Once light illuminated the room, you pulled your wrist out to examine the burn mark.
Only it wasn’t a burn mark. A golden mark had been etched into your skin, a delicate white pattern tracing through the gold in waves. The mark flickered in the light, making it almost like a bracelet permanently clasped around your wrists.
“What the hell is that?” You asked, panic rising through you as you stared at the mark. You had seen this golden pattern before… in your dream, and on the night of the murder. Whatever this was, had to belong to the god of death… but what did it mean?
“Hold on…,” Celia responded, already heading to the door. She raced back to the kitchen island where she left the book the two of you were reading the night before, researching the god.
“Let me see if this has any information,” she flipped through the pages. You sat closely, watching as she skimmed the foreign words on the page. Your wrist had stopped hurting, but just knowing the mark existed made your skin crawl. Whatever it meant was clearly not good… you’ve seen the movies!
“I’m not seeing anything in here that mentions a mark… usually his victims are unsuspecting that he's on the hunt, unaware they’ve even come into contact with him… apparently it makes it more, well I don’t know how to translate this word but I would assume it means appealing.” Celia concluded.
“Damn it.”
“I know,” Celia muttered under her breath. She began to mention a few people you could ask, as they were more knowledgeable than her on the god of death, but you weren’t listening. No, your mind was racing for other solutions.
“Does the book say anything at all about how to summon him?” You interrupted Celia, who now stared at you like you had 5 heads.
“Sorry, could you repeat that? I’m not sure I heard you correctly?”
“I think if we could summon him, we could ask him? Find out more about this mark?”
“Are you nuts?! You want to try and summon the god of DEATH… who will surely kill you once he sees you by the way, to ask why he marked you? Hello?” Celia yelled, flustered with your own remark. You hadn’t thought that fully through, you’ll admit that.
“Okay maybe not him, but what about the other gods who knew him? The eternals? Could we summon one of them and ask?”
“Yeah I don’t think that's how it works… you don’t just summon a god, y/n…” Celia chuckled. There was a barrier between them and the humans. While many humans worshiped the old gods, no one ever actually heard from them. And they definitely didn’t summon them.
“Ugh, you’re right, I know you’re right… I just… I don’t know what else to do!” You let yourself fall back onto the pillows of your bed and let out an exasperated sigh.
“Give me today, I’ll talk to my group at school and see if we can think of anything that this may be connected to. Just go to work and try and live like you don’t have a potential mark of death around your wrist,” Celia responded, patting your leg comfortingly. You sighed, knowing she was right. There was nothing much you could do but just pretend like everything was normal.
You could do that…
A few hours later you were making your way down the stairs heading to work. Unfortunately for you, there was only one way to the restaurant, which was right past the alleyway from the night before. You could walk another 35 minutes out of your way to walk around the entire square to the otherside, but it was too hot for that.
The early morning sun was surprisingly warm against your skin. Humidity hung in the air like a wet blanket, making you squirm as you walked down the street. Yeah, there was no way you could walk that long in this heat, and you were grateful for the prescription strength deodorant that you doused yourself in this morning.
As you approached the alleyway, the yellow caution tape caught your attention as a slight breeze ruffled it. It covered the entire alley entrance in a big X, though one could still slip through the tape if they really wanted.
And for some reason, that's exactly what your brain told you to do. Carefully, you moved in between the tape, trying not to lose your balance and send the tape ripping off the walls of the alley. You weren’t quite sure what possessed you to do this, but some innate sense deep inside of you pulled you in.
The stench of the alley was strong, from the trash building in the dumpsters, to the blood that still stained the concrete- a crime scene crew had yet to clean it up. Trying not to throw up, you slowly walked deeper into the alley.
A tingling sensation caressed your wrist, pulling you out of your thoughts. It was a soft tingle, like a breeze had blown through, meeting your skin. You inhaled as the tingling moved up your arm to your shoulder, and then back down your back, stopping halfway. The hair on the back of your neck stood up, as you felt something press up against your spine. The metallic smell was back, lingering in your nose.
Whirling around, you were met with nothing but the empty alley opening up to the street. A group of teenagers had stopped to peer through the tape, trying to see what they could spot. Panting, you stood still, hoping they didn’t see you, and that whatever was just touching you was gone. Or just in your head- that would be fine too.
Once the teenagers had satisfied their need to see the grotesque site, you made your way back out of the alley. Whatever just happened had to be connected to the god you had run into the night before- you were sure of it as the golden band around your wrist itched- but you didn’t want to think about it, not now anyway.
Everything was perfectly fine. Perfectly normal.
“Y/n! There you are,” your boss, Alex, greeted you as you walked in the doors of the kitchen. Alex was a force of nature that’s for sure. They were probably the kindest person you had ever met, and yet had such a stoic nature about them, that no one took advantage of them. It was something you secretly envied.
“Hey Alex. How was opening this morning?” Your shift started a couple of hours after opening, so you wanted to gauge how the day started, as it was usually telling how the rest of the day would go into the night.
“It was pretty slow, you know with the murder and everything,” Alex whispered. You nodded. He had no idea just how much you knew. “I suspect the rest of the day will be just as slow. Sooo, you know what that means! It’s a perfect day to train!”
You groaned. Alex knew how much you hated training, but they couldn’t deny you were the best.
“This is, I’m sorry, what did you say your name was again?” Alex turned to the man standing behind him. You hadn’t noticed him at all, as he was half in the shadows. He took a step further, the light overhead shining on him like a spotlight. Your breath hitched in your throat as you saw him. He had the bluest eyes you had ever seen, contrastingly sharply against his dark pupils. He was very handsome, his chin chiseled at just the right angles, his 5 o’clock shadow highlighting his jawline. Something about him sent alarm bells in your head, yet also made you want to fall to your knees before him. He just seemed so… familiar.
“Kieran,” he responded, smirking slightly. His voice was deep, a thick irish accent coming through. It wasn’t rare to hear someone with an accent from across the seas over in this part of town, but something about him just sent a chill down your spine. Not to mention, your golden bracelet seemed to have warmed against your skin in his presence.
“Right, silly me. Anyways, this is Kieran. He will be serving, so I want you to train him today. Really go over the menu and our practices…” Alex continued but you stopped listening. You couldn’t break the stare you and Kieran were entranced in, his smirk only growing by the second. It was as if he knew the effect he had on you, and he was relishing in it silently before you.
‘Hello? y/n?” Alex waved a hand in front of your face.
“Right… train him, I got it.” You said, breaking eye contact and turning toward Alex. They offered you a small smile and a wink, before turning to Kieran.
“You’re in good hands. Y/n is the best!”
The two shared a small exchange before Alex left you alone with the man. Kieran turned to you, the smirk returning. It annoyed you, how cocky he already was without having to utter a single word to you.
“So, have you ever worked in a restaurant before?” You asked, grabbing a menu from the server station next to you.
“No,” his response was short and curt. This only annoyed you even more. You beckoned him to follow you, rolling your eyes as hard as you could when your back was to him. A low chuckle came from behind you, almost as if he knew of your secret act.
You settled into a booth next to the kitchen, allowing him to slide in across from you.
“Okay, so first things first, you have to know the menu. The rest will be so much easier if you know what we offer. We’re a higher end restaurant, so we offer a lot of ‘fine dining’ dishes. Lots of pastas, seafood, steaks, and all of that.” You began to explain. The golden band around your wrist buzzed with energy as you talked. It was hard to focus on what you were saying, as the buzz intensified.
Kieran sat before you looking over the menu, memorizing what dishes you guys’ offered. As he did, you pulled your phone out to see a missed text from Celia.
Found out some more info. Meet for drinks later?
You glanced up at Kieran as you responded.
Sure. McCrakens?
The Irish pub was your go to for drinks with Celia, and its atmosphere felt perfect for the conversation the two of you had to have. The pub was almost always packed out and so loud, you could barely hear your own self, let alone eavesdrop on anyone.
Celia shot back a ‘yes 10:00 pm’ and you locked your phone, turning your attention back to Kieran.
“Seems simple enough.” Kieran said, letting the menu fall onto the table. You nodded. There was no one else in the restaurant right now, so it was a little hard to begin any other parts of training him.
“Where’d ya get that?” He asked, his deep voice interrupting your thoughts. He was nodding to your wrist. You looked to see what he was referring to, and realized the band of gold was on full display.
“Oh, uh,” you scrambled for a response as you tugged the bracelet back down over your wrist that you had covering it. His eyes peered quizzically at you, his signature smirk gone. He was as serious as could be, which made you look at him puzzled.
“It was just a dumb thing I did at a tattoo shop,” you lied. He gave you a look that screamed that he read right through you.
“I didn’t know they made gold ink,” he responded. You sighed, knowing there was nothing you could think of that would make sense. Instead, you decided to tell him the truth… well the half truth.
“Alright, fine. I really don’t know. I just woke up with it this morning. My friend and I are trying to research to figure out what it means, but so far we’ve turned up nothing.”
He stared at you intently, studying your wrist. You squirmed under his intense gaze. It was almost as if he was burning through the bracelet, the buzzing even more noticeable than before.
“I think I may know something. Although, it’s a bit of a legend.”
“That’s kind of the conclusion we’ve come to as well, that whatever this is has to be sort of supernatural like that.”
You bit your lip as you tried to hold back what was about to come tumbling out of your mouth next. There was no way you could invite this man out to the pub tonight… not without him finding out you came into contact with a god. You couldn’t just go around telling anyone that sort of information. Not today. Especially not after last night's murder has been blasted all over the news, already blaming the gods.
“I’d love too,” he said suddenly, making you jump slightly as you were pulled from your thoughts. You blinked, trying to figure out what you just asked him.
“What?”
“You invited me out tonight, with you and your friend.” He looked stumped.
“No… I didn’t? Did I?” You were starting to question everything in your head just now… did you somehow let it tumble out of your mouth without realizing?
“You did… are you okay?” He asked. You nodded, your throat suddenly too dry to talk.
Well… there was no backing out of this now.

Kong's 2024 Halloween-a-thon - 31 days of spooky movies
I didn't get a chance to post it before Halloween, but I did watch another 31 days of Halloween movies. Here's the list if you want it.
The ones that were really good...
Maxxine
Trap
Fantasy Island
Honorable Mention - Edge of Sleep - Cause it was episodic and I think it could have played better as a full fledged movie.
Honorable Mention - Freefall - For the possession take. Very creative ideas.
As always, if you have specific triggers check out doesthedogdie for a list of what maybe in the movie you choose to watch.
I Saw the TV Glow – 20 mins boring as shit - Max
Bodies Bodies Bodies - Not good, not bad… forgettable. - Max
They - 20 mins boring – Max
The First Omen – Hulu – Underwhelming
Fantasy Island – Hulu – Decently good unique take on an old tv show
Succubus – interesting wanted more but got less
X-Files – I want to Believe – SUCKED - VUDU - I'm disappointed in you X-Files. That movie is worse than spiderman 3 (the one who shall not be named.)
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – not terrible, very 1980s vintage
Mr. Crocker -hulu – just bad and lame really, bad parents and bad children being haunted by a kid show host who was I think into some horrible pedo things.
Hold your Breath -hulu Forgettable
Slayers – Hulu – if slaying were dumb, this is the movie for it.
Gaia – Hulu – Boring survivalist / horror /suspense with none of what it said it was supposed to have.
Little Monsters – Hulu – Comedy Horror with not much comedy – Kids and teacher and lazy white guy survive zombies
2019 The Grudge – Hulu – Decent creep factor, kid death
Handling The Dead – Hulu – bored
The Accursed – Revisited this one from 2022 to see if anything had changed in my previous review. I felt like I missed a lot of the point because I wasn’t aware of the culture it was representing. Was better the second time I watched it after reading up about culture.
Amulet – Hulu – Boring
Agnes – Hulu – A promising flop
The Free Fall – Hulu – Fairly decent take on possession.
The Edge of Sleep (Prime) – Mini TV series – Markiplier plays Dave a guy who’s got parasomnia. Really fairly good. I was expecting something a bit different but was pleasantly surprised.
Salem’s Lot remake - max – so so, vamps looked pretty cool
Maxxxine – max - Really good addition to the franchise that is Maxine Minx
Trap – Max - Really good. I expected a flop... but Josh Harnett made this movie great.
Return to Salem’s Lot - Max – Sucked – 1980s.
Poltergeist – Max - the original one, eh… probably pretty scary for the time.
They Live – Vudu - 1988 Roddy Piper sees aliens with glasses that want us to obey. Maybe scary back then, but not so much now.
Pheonix Forgotten – Vudu – Found Footage Style- Not my fav type of spookie.
Dark Skies – Vudu – Decent Aliens
Mouse Trap – Peacock - cheesy as all fuck, but it was hilarious in how bad it was. Steamboat Mickey goes mental and teens win. It's so bad that it almost spun 360 to make it good again... almost.
Blood and Honey 2 - Peacock - The person who thought these up is brilliant at twisting the most beloved Pooh of the 100 Acre woods... but Jesus fucking Christ it's brutal. So brutal it'd make Jason blush. Don't watch it if you love Winnie the pooh. It's triggering and it will taint your vision of them. Bad movie, loved the brutality and the creativity that went into it and tied it to the first in a crazy good way that makes sense, but can't like the premise about children.
AVP universe - Vudu - starting with Predator (Arnold movie) all the way through Aliens in chronological order. It makes so much more sense to watch them in their (in movie historical order). Lots of interesting lore, lots of gore, lots of tiny clothing... So far I liked Predator, Alien and Prometheus. The rest were ok on their own, but made better because of how much they tried to tie them in. Still not finished with these, but finished enough to post.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on fhsy and how that used horror as opposed to neverafter (I'm pretty you mentioned seeing it?, otherwise, disregard). I also came out of neverafter really unsatisfied with the horror, but felt like brennan was able to pull it off much better in fhsy with the nightmare king, obviously baron, and kalina. Those scenes are the ones I keep coming back to because of how unsettling certain aspects of the nightmare king/kalina worked. Do you think that was a better example of Brennan's horror?
throwing in some good tags from @criticalrolo to answer this all in one go:
#prev tags extremely real and I’d love to read your thoughts on brennans DM style#totally totally agreed that there were a lot of parts of neverafter I liked but the Dense Lore was. NOT the best for a horror season#like. horror is based around the concept of Not Seeing or Understanding the Monster#so having a LOT of Dense Lore felt. WAYYY off base and it all got explained WAY too early on in the season I think
I think the takeaway is that Brennan's style - which is all about Dense Lore, that's his whole deal, have you seen the Make Some Noise where he has a prompt to spin dense lore and he just does it immediately? - is not suited to horror, where you can't have dense lore. Horror I think benefits from having one big convergent reveal. Like...the example that's coming to mind is Get Out, which is horror-comedy and also reveals how little true horror I watch (really more a New Weird kind of girl). There's a lot of unsettling details but they all build up to the one big reveal of "this white family does brain transplants into black people so they can live in their bodies" and it all clicks into place. There's plenty of lore but it's very streamlined whereas Brennan's tends to be convoluted - much more suited to, say, high and heroic fantasy and space opera and more sweeping genres like that.
So Fantasy High Sophomore Year (which I have seen but not since its original airing) works because it's not a horror story. It's pretty wacky, and Kalina and the Nightmare King are a part of a much larger story, so you have plenty of other things to do while that's allowed to simmer throughout. I think the problem with Neverafter is that you need the early reveal of the authors to set up the motivations of the princesses and fairies, but at the same time there's kind of not much else going on so the dense lore just feels like wheel spinning and ends up amounting to very little. It's like...there's a very cool story about the concept of narrative and being inside a story, which is very much my shit* and then also we keep cutting to the inside of a spirit halloween in which someone's reading Grimm's Fairy Tales for two hours at a time. I don't actually know how I'd fix it other than "stop making it horror," is the problem. I think dropping any other trappings of horror and just being fairy tales and having to sit with the knowledge that you are an archetype or a pawn or an avatar or a moral lesson would have been the route and maybe focusing on that instead. Lean in really hard to the vibes of episode 4. This will probably make people who are into gore and whatnot mad but the thing is that like, while I'm not into that I understand the appeal, but I also think that it's never going to be given justice in a primarily auditory medium. Which is the other reason why Kalina works. It's not so much horror as a mystery that happens to be pretty scary.
*total tangent and I would need some time to put together a full list but for if this is also your shit, here's a few personal recommendations that are not just Wikipedia's list of metafictional works or works that are of the correct vibe, even though most of them are in fact on there:
Stranger than Fiction (2006 film)
Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius (Borges short story)
There is an Ursula K. Le Guin short story in which someone is a planetary explorer on a planet that turns out to be the worldbuilding project of a teen boy. I cannot figure out which one it is. I read it in high school, I'll keep looking but anyway just read a lot of Le Guin's short stories. It's good for you.
Black Sails (maybe not metafiction? but also. it's not not metafiction.)
Arcadia by Iain Pears
it's been a hot minute since I read either if on a winters night a traveler or House of Leaves but those definitely did things to my brain in college
Piranesi and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke aren't explicitly metafiction but they also are very much about narrative. Also they're extremely good.
Sandman by Neil Gaiman

Just got back from the fnaf movie
!!SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!! TRUST ME THIS MOVIE IS SOOO WORTH WATCHING WITHOUT SPOILERS JUST HOLD OUT A LITTLE LONGER I BELIEVE IN YOU
Please remember if you reblog go tag with every fnaf spoiler tag you can think of btw!
Anyways
This
Movie
Was so... godamn...
GOOOD!!!!!!!!
DUDE, I KID YOU NOT THIS MOVIE FUFILLED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF 10 YEAR OLD ME'S EXPECTATIONS AND DREAMS AND IT FILLED MY CURRENT ONES TOO
You guys it was just- AHGAYAGAHWHOWWHOSBSOANALENSLSN
First of all: absolutely loved how it wasn't overly violent. I'm not a prude, but when it comes to gore and violence, I'm very particular. Everyone who follows me knows I'm not a fan of gore, and luckily this movie had none!
It was still pretty gruesome. Like the guy getting his face eaten by Mr. Cupcake and that one girl who got bitten in half by Freddy. But even then, all you could see was the silhouette and her lower half fall to the floor. And 90% of the other scenes you do see, but they kind of let the sounds of what's happening fill in the gaps as the camera goes somewhere else, like with Mr. Cupcake.
Even when you see their bodies later on in the parts and services, the end results of what happened earlier aren't even that bad! Tbh it's almost too dark to even see anything
I loved that! It made it perfectly fine for me to watch and not squirm uncomfortably or feel sick. It actually shocked me! Most gore just makes me roll my eyes and want to gag but this stuff literally made me say "WOAH that's MESSED UP" (enthusiastically) out loud a few times!
Also the parts with the animatronics playing with Abby.... GOD that really filled a void in me that I never knew I had... Watching them play and build a fort and be goofy... Really made me smile so hard!... Uh, as if they didn't kill a bunch of dudes earlier.... Hmm..
All the little references made me point at the screen and squeal! That MatPat cameo my goodness! It made me laugh too lol, which I was pretty surprised about! I wasn't expecting to laugh, smile and cry in a scary movie but here we are!
Every Balloon Boy jumpscare got me, because even though it was, as all those video game critics say, "a cheap spook with a loud noise" I can guarantee a lot of other people did too
AND FELLAS WE GOT IT!!! SPRINGLOCK FAILURE BABYYYYY!!!
I think I was pretty pleased with how they did the springlocks. The reveal... The way Abby said "They can see you now." As they turn to William... Their real Killer... HOT DAMNNNNN AND THEN HE SAYS THE FUCKING LINE AND PUTS ON THE HEAD JUST- CHILLS DUDE (I should probably mention how loud this movie made me btw)
And that part legitimately made my eyes water too! When they dragged him away, the music and him twitching... All I could think was "JUSTICE!"
And I love that they made William a horrible father from what we saw when he talked with Vanessa. It always irks me the wrong way when people try to portray him as a sad parent who lost his daughter and that's why he did what he did. Like- no. He wasn't okay in the head you guys, he was NOT a good father, EVER. I'm sorry but no, he literally neglected, emotionally, and possibly, physically abused his kids.
And I love what they did with characters too! I like how the movie just did its own thing that to me, felt like What fnaf REALLY is.
I never like fnaf lore as it is now. I like when the premise was simply: "guy kills kids, hides their bodies in suits, ghosts posses the animatronics, and want to take revenge but don't remember their killer, so they kill anyone they think is him." Before all that sci-fi stuff got involved. And the Movie is just that! "guy kills kids, hides their bodies in suits, ghosts posses the animatronics, and want to take revenge but don't remember their killer, so they kill anyone they think is him."!! It was awesome!
And I like how it explains that there's the possibility that while the kids posses them, they also have somewhat minds of their own. At least that's what I got from some stuff revealed. There's ways been a part of me that thought the animtronics themselves had minds of their own, so to see that it could be a possibility (in the movies canon at least) was really cool!
Also... Living tombstone fnaf 1 song :) in end credits!
And to end this off, sadly there wasn't a post credit scene sadly (unless you count that CoryxKensin getting jumpscared by the BB toy after the fancy credits)
But!!!! Did anyone else notice the fnaf 2 music box playing in the end credits? And the one noise that says the letters and stuff during the secret fnaf 2 minigames...?
I mean, Matthew did say he signed for 2 more movies... So who's to say we won't get a Fnaf 2 movie based off the evidence of what we heard there, huh? Just a little thought I decided to leave here before we end things off :)
FORGOT TO MENTION that both me and Cherri SCREAMED the lyrics for the fnaf song at the end lol,and two girls next to us started recording us lol (not in a mean way we all talked and ranted for a good 3 minutes afterward it was fun!)

pls tell me about your favourite horror movies
idk much about the genre tbh because. i was quite easily freaked out as a kid/teenager so i just didnt watch any. but ive been trying to get into it more as an adult so i would appreciate some recommendations :)
i have an irl friend who is also really into horror movies and she gave me a list of them to watch
the crossed out ones are the ones i have watched already. the others i havent got round to yet
ok !!!! so if im going to be completely honest, i havent watched that many for the reaosn you just stated. although the genre is a main special interest, i have always had a really really horrible scare tolerance which sucks. i do best with classic horror movies—ive watched a good chunk of those so heres what i recommend:
i will rate each movie on a 1 - 10 scale and then how scary i found it 1 - 100
american psycho — 9 / 10, 25%, autistic protag, CWs: a LOT of sex ( which is not relvant to the plot so you can skip through it ), blood, mild homophobia, implied cannibalism + torture
midsommar — have not watched but ive heard its good, id look the up the CWs
re animator — already on the list but !!!!!!!!!! 11 / 10, 5%, honestly just gross, my beloved little gay men, literally fits into half the horror subgenres ( body horror weird horror, slasher, etc ) CWs: A LOT OF GORE, 1 sex scene + a sexual assault scene which you can skip through ( neither are relevant to the plot ), has a predatory character
SAW 1 — 10 / 10, 60%, cannot explain to you how horrible and good this movie is at the same time. the budget looks like it was fuckign 0 dollars but OH MY GOD the acting and the plot im going insane. also little gay men again. CWs: mild drug use ( just cigs ) / reference to more serious addiction, child abuse ( not from a parent ), gore, depictions of people being driven to insanity
the birds — 8 / 10, 3%, honestly a really silly movie but i love it. it was slightly unsettling and i didnt trust birds for a few days ! CWs: a few jumpscares, child death, mild gore
psycho — 10 / 10, 20%, definetly was unnerving, made me nervous to take a shower for a bit ( youll see ), also !!!!! SUBTLE TRANSGENDER CHARACTER !!!!! be on the lookout :3 CWs: jumpscares, mild gore, child abuse, stealing ( idk if this is a CW lmao ), reference to drug usage / addiction ( i think ?? i can’t remember )
salad fingers — 10 / 10, 30%, not a movie but !!!!! i lvoe it. youtube horror series made by a single guy, has the craziest lore. i watched all of it in 2 days, very very cool and interesting, was unnerving made me uncomfy + was honestly just gross most of the time . CWs: gore, self harm, mild racism, jumpscares, auto( ? ) cannibalism
zero day — 10 / 10, 40%, very very niche low budget found footage film, literally the MOST incredible acting ever, extremely suspenseful, fed into my hyperfixation on guns / gun laws. CWs: ‼️‼️THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT A SCHOOL SHOOTING‼️‼️ ( and contains relentless talk of them !!!!! ), suicide / self harm, mild gore, depictions of severe mental illness, mention of bullying, child death
and im sure theres more that im forgetting lmao take what you will and let me know what you think !!!!!!! <3

Episode 1 Recap: The Color Under the Shadow of Space
Welcome back! It's our first official episode.
If you listened to our intro episode and/or read the blog you know that we’re officially kicking off our research with AI-generated recommendation Under the Shadow (2016). After we wrapped recording, I decided to throw my pick The Color Out of Space (2020) for a solid - something comes into my house and ruins the vibes - double bill. Hey look! It's us.
Before we get into that, we start off by chatting about our fancy photo shoot with photographer of Terrifier 2 fame and friend of the pod, Jeff Harris Studios. Thank you, Jeff! Dropped a few favorites below. Spooky stuff.
We’re super excited to have him on in a few episodes to discuss shooting on horror film sets and some of his favorite scary movie tropes. Cannibal stuff is mad scary and mad gross, yo. I insist on digging in on Armie Hammer’s disturbing proclivities. After a viewing of House of Hammer, I’m left speechless on what I’ve seen & heard but excited to share my vengeance-filled lucid dreams. Also richies probably eat people all the time, right?
Rina then shares an update on OpenAI’s legal hot water. ChatGPT be hallucinating too much and OpenAI is going to need to evaluate their loosey goosey legal language. Finally, we share shark attack stories since Jaws was back in theaters 4th of July weekend. Also, are there lake sharks? I don’t want to know.
We then dig into Babak Anvari’s Under the Shadow (2016) but Rina is unfortunately reminded of another Babak Anvari movie, Wounds (2019). She did not care for it. Guess who’s in it? Armie Hammer. Womp, womp. He was definitely part of the problem but Rina's not keen on the execution overall.
Anywho, we do a pretty solid recap of the movie - it’s 1988, Tehran and we’re introduced to a family navigating life during a war as well as mysterious and supernatural happenings in their home. Rina does a great job laying out the lore of the Djinn and chat some of the tropes - creepy little kids, Moms being suss, and real-life terror juxtaposed with supernatural terror. We discuss some of the creative choices that really stood out to us; like the fact there was little to no music and the washed out, bright overexposed photograph look of the movie. We talk about our favorite scenes - a solid jump scare, a creepy foot through a ceiling crack, and an open-ended non-ending. All in all a fantastic movie. Mad Scary not Mad Corns. Significantly better than Wounds. This was definitely Babak’s story to tell.
We keep it going and chat through Richard Stanley’s The Color Out of Space (2019) based on the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. Jesus Christ. This movie. We talk high-level about the plot. You have five to ten minutes of exposition and an introduction to the Gardner family - they live in the country, they have llamas which may or may not be a poor investment, the daughter is a Wiccan, her brother is into smoking weed and space stuff, their little brother wears glasses and has a lisp.
Things immediately start going crazy after a meteorite crashes onto the Gardner’s land. The level and pace in which this movie escalates can only be likened to a freight train speeding into a fever dream. It’s also mad gross. This is Richard Stanley’s second mainstream movie. His first was the ill-fated Island of Dr. Moreau (1996). It was so bad they made a documentary about it. Anywho, this man clearly likes gooey gross because he leans in hard. The body horror and gore is off the chain. My man also has an unsavory past with women - can we separate the art from the artist? I'm having a time with it.
Wait!? Did I mention Nick Cage plays Papa Gardner? I didn’t!? My bad. Um, Nicholas Cage plays the dad in this movie and I just love him for it. If I ever get to meet him, I need to ask him about some of his choices - all inspired but I just want to know why he made them cuz we got theories. Mr. Cage, what's up with that voice? Nick Cage's performance, the saturated colors, and the narrative device make this movie a must watch. Mad Scary approved.
We’ve collected some tropes from both movies. While Rina felt they weren’t super similar, I think the tropes speak volumes. Horror movies that take place in the home feel the scariest because our homes are where we are meant to feel safe, comfortable, and the most ourselves. The idea of something coming into that safe space and terrorizing you, and you have nowhere to go to escape it, is mad scary.
Common Horror Movie / Scary Tropes & Devices
Here are the interviews that I promised: Babak Anvari Interview Richard Stanley Interview
For Episode 2, we decided on Alex Garland’s Ex Machina (2015), a movie we were planning to watch together pre-podcast. It’s one of Rina’s favorites and feels very fitting in terms of our AI co-collaborator. Finally, we asked Chat GPT to recommend a good companion film for Ex Machina. Here’s how it went:
In classic ChatGPT form, it beefed the request and recommended an episode of Black Mirror. No. That’s not a movie. We try again:
Ok! We’ll be watching Ex Machina & The Machine next episode. We’ll also start to talk about our writing process and make some plans/next steps around writing our script. I’ll also try to limit the amount of times I say the word fascinating. See you in a few weeks!

Naruto fic recs?
Anon.
Do you know what you have just wrought upon me?
List under cut
Fair warning: It's long :)
I'll be honest, I had no idea how to organize this while making this, so if you're looking for a trope, just ctrl+f or something sdfjlsdf
Gen Kakashi-centric fics:
Renegade by @/pbjamas - Teen - Multi-chap - Complete- Graphic depictions of violence, Major character death - Gen - Missing-Nin Kakashi, Whump Kakashi, ANBU Kakashi
(Mind archive warnings) Wanna watch Kakashi literally lose everything at the age of 19? Yeah? hah, me too, watch him get the shit beat out of him and nearly die like 3 times in this fic <3
A Little Blood Never Hurt Anyone by @/depressedhatakekakashi - Mature - One-shot - Author chose not to use archive warnings, Blood, Gore, Torture, Disassociation, Electrocution, Breaking bones, Minor character death - Mentioned Kkg - Whump Kakashi, ANBU Kakashi, Hurt barely any comfort
(Mind content warnings and archive warning) Kakashi gets captured on a mission gone very wrong and has no choice but to endure until he either dies or help arrives. One of my favorite whump fics that I like to go back to.
Legacy of a God Long Forgotten by @/thesaintraphael - General Audiences - Multi-chap - Indefinite Hiatus - Graphic depictions of violence, Cannibalism, Blood and gore, Manipulation - MinaKushi - Hatake clan lore & headcanons, Everyone lives
(Mind tags) What if the Hatake clan was blessed by gods, a teensy, little more unhinged (just a tiny bit), and a lot more powerful? This fic explores that and man is it good
Shadows, Blinding by Pesto - General - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Creator chose not to use archive warnings - Gen - Hatake clan lore, Family secrets, Dog-teeth Kakashi
(Mind tags) Kakashi dies and wakes up in a valley full of people that have familar hair and eyes.
Peak "everyone is hiding something" vibes. When the author tagged family secrets, they weren't kidding. Everything is layered and Kakashi is trying to get back to his kids while also trying not to succumb his clan traits.
I love the Hatake Ocs in this fic. Akio is such an asshole, I love him. Nana is scary sjdjsjd
Year of the Ghost by scrappybook - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - No archive warnings apply - Gen - Canon divergence, Greif/mourning, Anbu Kakashi, Slice of life
Kakashi retires shortly after the Kyuubi attacks the village. Two words: Farmer Kakashi. For all the domesticity in this fic, I love how Kakashi is still involved in politics. Also him innovating Fuuinjutsu for domestic use instead of combat,,,, waa I love when fics explore that.
Wolf-Nin by Scribulus - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - Eventual Kakashi/Zabuza, MinaKushi - Time travel, Wolf-instincts, Cannibalism, Blood and gore, Body horror, Good Orochimaru
(Mind Content warnings and tags) Kakashi dies 36, wakes up in his 6 year old body, and decides he's going to drastically change the fate of his village. Canid summoning contract my beloved, Kakashi goes absolutely feral in this fic and it's glorious. Featuring Mentor!Orochimaru :D
Team Minato-centric Fics:
Alone No More by Emily Violet - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence, Child abuse - Gen - Misunderstandings, Hatake clan lore, Team Minato as family, Major character injury
An exploration of what if Kakashi was hated by the village similarly to how Naruto was treated? Except now, Hatake clan lore is at play.
And other things Kakashi did not hallucinate by cyan96 - Teen - One-shot - No archive warnings apply - Gen - Kind of crack treated seriously, Anbu Hatake Kakashi, Jinchuuriki Nohara Rin
Kakashi thinks he's hallucinating his dead teammates that occasionally stop by and make sure he's self-caring. Idk how a fic can be so funny yet so gut-wrenchingly sad, but this managed to do it and it's great. I go back to this once in a while because I love this concept sm
chasing visions of our futures by @/kirpyee - Teen - Multi-chap - Complete - No archive warnings apply - Obkk - Anbu Kakashi, Anbu Obito, Anbu Rin, Jinchuuriki Nohara Rin, Hurt/comfort
Kushina is put in charge of taking care of the aftermath of Team 7. *holds this au gently* ah I wanted to sucker punch Danzou in the jaw soooo badly while reading this. It was marvelous <3 Also Bamf!Kushina and Minato facing the consequences of his inactions (he's still learning) my beloved
the dog who dies is the one who is mourned by hallowed nebulae - Teen - One-shot - Major character death - Obkk, implied Kagumo - Self-esteem issues, Graphic character death, Minato is a bad teacher (He tried though)
(Mind archive warnings and tags) MMMM this fic made me cry real tears and I loved every heart-stabbing moment of it. Sometimes I like to go back to it just to make my heart go aaaaa
Before the Morning Comes by myadamantiumheart - Explicit - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - KkObiRin- Jinchuuriki Nohara Rin, Running away, Uzushiogakure, Team Minato as family, Rin-centric
Fic summary: Or, the one where Team Seven runs away and builds a better world on their own. I have no idea how to word my thoughts to describe the sheer amount of love I have this fic. All that I can say is that these kids are just kids and deserve a break and oh my god does this fic deliver. Also, the politics is top-tier.
To Be Given A Second Chance (God, We Didn't Ask for This) by why is this a thing now - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Time Travel Fix-It, Team Minato as family
After passing, reconciling, and accidentally being given a second chance, Kakashi, Obito, and Rin are once again alive and are going to change their fate and future. This is part of the let's do teh time warp again series by the same author. I also recommend reading Akatuski no Tobi - The Fuckening 1 and 2. It's the same au, now further in the timeline with KkObiRin and it's hilarious.
the rabbit child who danced in the moonflower fields by Digi Noir, hallowed nebulae - Teen - Multi-chap - Discontinued - Creators chose not to use archive warnings - Obkk, Past Kagumo - Hatake clan lore, Hatake clan is from Uzushiogakure, Worldbuilding, Self-hatred, Panic attacks, Nonbinary Kakashi
I recommend reading the fic summary, if I even try to remotely summarize it, I'll have several paragraphs. This is an incredibly interesting take on the Hatake clan and I absolutely love it. Kakashi is not only carrying the burden of his father's death but also the culture of his clan and the lasting effects of colonization from the Uzumaki clan, physically and mentally.
nothing lasts by @/kirpyee - Mature - Multi-chap - Complete - Graphic depictions of violence, Major character death - Obkk, MinaKushi - Human experimentation, Anbu Kakashi, Root, Torture
(Mind content warnings and tags) Danzo captures Kakashi and has old genes from his clan resurfaced. Ah, hurt no comfort my beloved. SJDNFKJADF SCREAMING AND CRYING Team Minato does not get a break in this fic and ahg my heart </3 Some people also made alternative endings, I recommend go reading them as well :D
Team Seven-centric Fics:
And So, The Sensei Supports His Students by ihopethelightwillshineupon - General - Multi-chap - Complete - No Content Warnings - Gen - Team as Family, 5+1 fic
A series of disconnected stories with Team 7 from different ages as they all grow and Kakashi tries to be a supportive teacher, its really cute :]
How to Make a Team by Pleasedial123 - No rating - Series (Incomplete) - 2 completed multi-chap works - Creator chose not to use archive warnings, Canon-typical violence - Gen - Kakashi is a good teacher, Team as family, Medic-nin Uchiha Sasuke, Bamf!Sakura, worldbuilding, politics
Just typing out the name of this series has me all giddy in my seat. Kakashi decides to take his grief and the reflections of his old team and motivate himself to stop history from repeating itself. The worldbuilding, headcanons, and characterization are all phenomenal. If you are looking for a good Team 7 as family series, I cannot recommend this enough.
Theif-Nin Sakura by Hemerodromus - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence, Major character death - SakuIno - Bamf!Sakura, Sakura-centric, Chakra theory, Kakashi is a good teacher, Politics, Kakashi becomes Sakura's mentor
While cleaning the corpses off the bridge (read: corpse looting), Sakura finds a scroll to Haku's kekkei genkai. And so the Copy-Cat teaches the Klepto-Kitten Honestly the idea that kekkei genkai can be replicated with super fine chakra control is so galaxy brain and I love this concept sm.
Dance of the Dog by Tartarun ff.net ao3 - General audiences - Multi-chap - Ongoing - No archive warnings apply, Canon-typical violence - Gen - Sensei Obito, Missing-nin Kakashi, Rin lives, Bamf!Sakura, Team 7 as family, Politics, Everyone is lying, Empty graves
Fic Summary: "Kakashi loved Konoha a little less and his father a bit more. What happens next changes the face of history. However, Team 7's destiny years later is still wrapped with the silver-haired man's and an intricate dance begins." Fic is being edited and uploaded to Ao3, but ff.net has more chapters. THIS FIC. I cannot put into words how much this fic makes me froth at the mouth and make me want to commit 20 different felonies. Everything is so interconnected, character interactions and dialogues are heavily loaded and the sub-text is so tasty. You never truly know what the character's motivations are, what they are hiding, and how they are using others around them. Everyone is lying and eventually, everything happens at once. If you want to know how fucking good this fic is, even though the summary outright tells you Kakashi is alive, how the author presents it, it's nearly impossible to tell if it's Kakashi or not if you haven't read it. And in terms of the narrative? That makes sense. The characters can't tell if Kakashi is even alive or if that is Sakumo, or someone else completely.
Everyone is morally grey and using each other and It Is So Good.
Hellbent by LuckySeven - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - SakuNaru, IruKaka, InoMari - Missing-nin Team 7, Fuinjutsu master Sakura, Medic-nin Sasuke, BAMF Naruto, Kakashi is a good teacher, Politics, Team 7 as family
Orochimaru tells Team 7 the truth about Naruto's parents and Sasuke's clan back in the Forest of Death. As a result, the genin decide the village is not for them and Kakashi is there to keep his kids safe. Uzushio rep FUCK YEA. From protective Kakashi to Fuinjutsu and Medical theory, this fic is amazing. There are actual stakes present and what goes on in the shinobi world is not just isolated to Konoha. All of the factors and groups are at play in this fic are incredibly engaging and makes the world seem more active and lively.
It’s Just That Any One of Us Is Half Without Another One Is You by Branch - Mature - Complete - Graphic depictions of violence - SakuNaruSasu - Team 7 as family, Kakashi is a good teacher, Medic-nin Naruto, Spy Sakura, Politics
Itachi stays the villain, Madara has no manipulated minion to do his bidding, and Team 7 is not a repeat of its predecessors. Really nice character exploration that is actually consistent. Kishimoto could never do what this fic did skdfaldf It's so good
Shinobi: Team 7 by Gallyrat - Not rated - Multi-chap - Indefinite hiatus - Gen - Worldbuilding, Politics, AU
An AU where the author completely rebuilds Naruto from the ground up. Naruto's true lineage is properly hidden, Sakura's knowledge in history becomes far more useful, Sasuke is trying to live outside of the shadow cast by his brother. Konoha and all other major hidden villages have a history that is far more intertwined. Power balancing is reasonable and realistic and the author still stays true to canon characterization. Also, Danzo's role as a necessary evil for the good of the village actually makes sense and does justice to his character. (It was this fic that introduced me to the idea of Root Commander!Kakashi, and I've been hooked on it since)
Time travel/Dimension Hopping: (I have a lot of favorites in this type of au, I'm a sucker for this trope <3)
me wa kokoro no kagami; the eyes are the window to the soul by BoyGirlBothNoneImTheUniverse - Mature - Multi-chap - Complete - Creator chose not to use Archive Warnings - Gen - Team 7 as family, body swap, Time travel au
The first work in the Kishikaise series (incomplete), where Team 7 travels back in time. Things go a bit different than what was expected and political shenanigans ensue and Team 7 has to find a way to play with the cards they have been dealt.
Nidaime Otokage by DuskBeforeDawn - Mature - Multi-chap - Incomplete (last updated in 2019) - Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Team 7 as Family, Team 7 are little shits, Kakashi is a little shit, Kakashi-centric
Kakashi and Team 7 wake up in the past and alternate universe to that of their own. The two groups must now navigate the new world while trying to find each other. It's crack taken seriously, and great.
Once More With Feeling by Chicken Train and Laser Beam - Mature - Multi-chap - Incomplete (Last updated 2019) - Gen - Kakashi-centric, Politics, Time-travel au
Don't let the fact that it's only 5 chapters long and last updated in 2019 fool you. It has 130k+ words and It Is A Fic To Read. If you like unlikely team-ups, I think you'll like Kakashi, Tsunade, and Jiraiya in this fic. The characterization is fucking amazing. The plot? *chefs kiss* Power balancing and character arcs are handled so well AND it has one of The Most Satisfying character death scenes that I have ever read. Just utter the line "Do you deny it?" And I will go ape shit insane at a flip of a switch. The entire time, in that scene, you KNOW Kakashi was playing with his food, only dragging it out for his enjoyment and to make him feel fear. Even better: The authors spent 3 hours getting a whole ass cake with "Ding Dong our problems are gone" in icing to celebrate killing off that character. If that doesn't show you how much love, dedication, and effort is put in this fic and I don't know what will.
Saving the World (On Accident and Through Other People) by xwannaflyx - Teen - Series (Ongoing) - 3 completed works - No archive warnings apply, Canon typical violence - Gen - Kakashi-centric, Sensei Orochimaru
Kakashi goes back in time to save the world with no plan, only to inadvertently do that when Tsunade realizes how much of a hot mess Kakashi and Orochimaru are. I have a huge weak spot for aus where Orochimaru becomes Kakashi's mentor, especially when the both of them are super dysfunctional, out of touch, socially awkward prodigies. They're trying their best <3
Love Will Find You (This Is a Threat) by @/sthene - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Author chose not to use archive warnings - ObKk, SasuNaru, SakuHina, ItaRin - Team 7 as family, Fairy-tale elements, Mythology, Good!Obito, Slow burn, Kakashi is trying his best, Everyone needs a hug
Infinite Tsukuyomi was set off a bit too early, and Kurama was forced to transport Team 7 to another universe in order to save them. Kakashi, Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke now are forced to navigate a world so closely alike yet oh so different from their own. All the while, a lot more things seem to be at play.
With the number of times I draw, write theories, scream, yell, cry, or just straight up go ape shit insane about this fic on this blog, how can I not include this fic? Every scene and chapter is so beautifully written and detailed. Not knowing the full story, every detail is loaded; even the imagery is a hint for what is to come (THE FUCKING TREE AND WOLF PUNS). The characterization and headcanons are *Chefs kiss* The angst will make you scream, cry, and you will love every single second of it. Team 7's dynamic is amazing. It's balanced with fluff, and I love Sthene's take of an alternate universe where Team 7 are the ghosts of their loved ones. If you love to overanalyze details, Hatake clan lore, world-building, Japanese mythology, and fairy-tale elements, this fic is for you.
failures to learn from, not dwell on by lavilleons - Not rated - Multi-chap - Incomplete - Author chose not to use archive warnings - Hatake Clan lore
Nara Shikaku and Yamanaka Inoichi die in the Fourth Shinobi War, only to wake up nearly 3 decades earlier and with the knowledge of yet to come. Unsure how to stop the fate of the world, they try to prevent the village's first failure that they can realistically enact at their age: Hatake Sakumo's death.
One of the most unique time-travel fix-it au's I've read in terms of plot. The Hatake clan headcanons are great and I love kid!Kakashi in this fic, he's such a little shit sdflakdfsnlsidf
Wolves of Fire Country by Midnite Republic - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Creator chose not to use archive warnings, Canon typical violence - Eventual Kakashi/Izuna - Slow burn, Hatake clan lore & headcanons, Team as family, Warring states era
Another mission gone awry, Kakashi and his students find themselves decades in the past and now need to navigate it. Love the Hatake clan history here
Time Waits for No Man by LaughingWombat - Teen - Multi-chap - Complete - No archive warnings apply - MinaKushi - Kakashi-centric, Team Minato as family, Politics, Hurt/comfort
Hokage!Kakashi gets sent back in time from an assassination attempt and finds himself in his 12 year old body. He has no idea whether or not his actions will affect the future he fought and suffered so hard for. I love the conflict in this fic sm. While you would understandably get frustrated by how each character reacts to Kakashi knowing the future, it's understandable. The moral dilemmas and misunderstandings flesh them out so well.
Enemy of the World by Kelakair - Teen - Multi-chap -Ongoing - Creator chose not to use archive warnings, Graphic depictions of violence - Obkk - Dimension hop, Edo tensei, Hatake Sakumo lives
Tobi accidentally ends up in a parallel universe where Sakumo lives and Team Minato is still united; the ideal world. Obito decides to destroy it all.
I am just. a small creture. you must not know how much stress i am in. *chefs kiss* to all the twists and turns
Blinding Loyalty and Bitter Hearts by Myst Marshall - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - Major character death - Gen - Body swap, Missing-nin Kakashi, Anbu Root Kakashi, Murder mystery, Revenge, Betrayal
Two Kakashi's from different universes swap I'm a sucker for body swap au, but holy shit the author is swapping two au!Kakashi's. It's incredibly intriguing to find how the same characters differ so much from each other and where that point of divergence begins.
Three's A Crowd (But Pack Sticks Together) by ShiiroiKitsune21 - Multi-chap - Complete - MinaKushi - Canon-typical violence, Jinchuuriki Kakashi, Third Shinobi War, Team Minato as family
Kurama and Kakashi are the last surivors after Kaguya decimated everyone. In a desperate attempt, the two go back in time and Kurama is sealed in 12 year old Kakashi. The writing in the first couple chapters can come off as a bit cheesy, even the author admitted that when they went back and edited it, but when it picks up, oh it picks up. It's one of my favorite comfort long fics to go back and read on, I love how you can see how the author progresses in their writing over time.
buried alive series by @/doggoneloser - Teen - 1 completed, 1 ongoing work - Major character death - Gen - Kakashi-centric, Third Shinobi War, Hurt/comfort, Parallel universes
Kakashi dies during Pein's attack, goes back in time, decides to fix history at the cost of himself. This was the first Kakashi time travel fic I have ever read and MAN did it get me hooked to this trope. An absolute great read that I've gone back to time and time again <3
Crossovers:
scars like wings by hyugesoo - Mature - Multi-chap - Ongoing Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Child soldiers, Kid fic, Kakashi-centric, Animal instincts
A crossover with the anime, Noragami. The God of War and Calamity, Yato, is reborn into Kakashi.
I'll be honest, I never watched Noragami but the writing does really shine through with Yato's characterization and his past before he became Kakashi. I wasn't as lost to the story of his character. Also, I love the Minato in this fic. He may be a parental figure, but he's still training child soldiers
And the Moon Will Bleed Anew by @/DrDiabolical - Explicit - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Dimensional travel, Blindness, Kakashi is a troll
Jujutsu Kaisen crossover - During the 4th war, Kakashi ends up in the JJK universe Kakashi is a little shit in this fic skdfsldkfa
Road to Nowhere by @/Aerugonian - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - No archive warnings apply - EraserMic - Reincarnation, Kakashi-centric, Identity issues, Hurt/comfort
A BNHA crossover: Kakashi dies in Pein's attack and is reborn as Shinsou Hitoshi. I have never read or watched BNHA, but this au and fic has me HOOKED. Just the idea of Kakashi getting a normal childhood and actually getting the affection and love he never had as a kid is an easy way to get me invested. I also recommend checking out the Road to Nowhere Extended Universe, has a lot of great fics inspired by this au.
it should have buried you by Some Dead Guy - Teen - No archive warnings apply - Obkk, EraserMic - Obito needs a hug
BNHA Crossover au, inspired by Road to Nowhere - Obito is reincarnated as Bakugou Katsuki I am a simple man. If I see Obkk and also inspired by Road to Nowhere, I click. The soft moments though,,, aa
Rotating Clouds by Kazumi123 - Teen - Ongoing - Creator chose not to use archive warnings - SatoSugu - Found Family, Kakashi is a little shit, Satoru is a little shit, Comfort no Hurt
JJK crossover: Gojo accidentally travels to the Naruto universe, causes some property damage, and kidnaps surprise adopts 5 year old Kakashi. I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED AN AU LIKE THIS UNTIL NOW (this fic was posted this week while I was making this list and I went: Oh shit yea, I'm definitely gonna rec this nvkwsflakdsd) Kakashi and Gojo are a force to be reckoned with, poor Suguru didn't sign up for this
White Foams and Grey Skies by kazumi123 - General - Multi-chap - Ongoing - No archive warnings apply - Obkk, Minor KakaNana - Reincarnation, Kakashi-centric, Hurt/comfort
JJK crossover: Kakashi dies in the 4th war, Obito curses him, and ends up as Satoru's older brother. Also, Obito is attached to Kakashi as a dormant curse. It was this fic that pushed me into watching the anime and reading the manga. AAAAA IT'S SO GOOD. I went back so many times rereading the chapters. I love Kakashi and Satoru's brotherly relationship, I love how Kakashi still has to deal with chakra exaustion. I love the worldbuilding and incorporation of chakra and cursed energy sdflakdnsjdhf everything is so gooooooood
IruKaka-centric fics:
Let Me Take Your Coat and This Weight off of Your Shoulders by Hamalama - Teen - One-shot - No archive warnings apply - Fluff and angst, Soft, Hurt/Comfort
A series of scenes where Iruka invites Kakashi over for diner and it grows from there.
The Experimental Subject by HazelBeka - Teen - One-shot - No archive warnings apply, Kidnapping, Consensual human experimentation - Mad scientist Iruka, Villain Iruka, Villain Anko, Villain Tenzo, Seals Master Iruka, Anbu Kakashi, Enemies to lovers
MMMMM I didn't know I need mad scientist Iruka until I read this fic. Also, Anko, Tenzo, and Iruka as a dysfunctional evil found family with Orochimaru as their parental figure is the best and is a concept I absolutely love.
Certain Inconsistencies by Cat42103 - Teen - Multi-chap - Complete - Author chose not to use archive warnings - Time travel, Fake/pretend relationship, Found family
Iruka wakes up in the past, and apparently, Kakashi is with him too. Shenanigans ensue.
guess your trajectory by ohwickedsoul - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - No archive warnings apply - Anbu Hatake Kakashi, Fuuinjutsu, Canon divergence
Iruka adopts Naruto Au and Hound is there :]
ObiKaka-centric fics:
criminals do it better by blackkat - Teen to Explicit - Series - Check tags for content warnings - Past!Obt/Nagato, MdTbm, Gai/Genma, & more - Crack, modern au, Organized crime, Humor
Former terrorist now environmentalist, but secretly the leader of a suicide squad!Obito and Former ranger!Kakashi series, I can't really explain the series, check out the summary for yourself sldkfjsd, it's a good read
komorebi by tomorrowsrain - Teen - Series (incomplete) - 3 completed works, 1 ongoing fic - No archive warnings apply, Canon-typical violence - Team 7 as family, Missing-nin Kakashi, Good Obito, Hurt/comfort
Kakashi and Obito meet in the Kyubi's attack, get exiled from Konoha, and reconcile. This series makes my heart go ah
Sakuoro-centric fics: (Sakumo/Orochimaru)
*Silly SakuOro AUs by blackkat - Teen to Mature - Series - Disconnected Sakuoro one shot aus
This series was my gateway drug to Sakuoro. My favorites are: a thousand miles up and we're about to get higher; pick apart the pieces of your heart, with friends like these; and walk, walk fashion baby
Kagumo/Kakashi is the son of Kaguya fics:
Close My Eyes by LegaciesandMemories - Not rated - One-shot - Creator chose not to use archive warnings, Suicide ideation, Mental health issues - Team 7 as family, Families of choice, Angst with a happy ending
(Mind the tags) This was my first kagumo fic, and I read this before actually knowing there were just straight aliens in the anime, so I was just: huh, I have no idea what is going on but I really like this! And thus my fixation with this one ship was born
A visit, but not to the cemetery by Pinepickled - General - No archive warnings apply - Baby Hatake Kakashi
A short and really cute one-shot where Kakashi gets to meet his mom for the first time. Absolutely adorable aa
Misc:
Dirt and Ashes, or: The One-and-a-Half Body Problem by Tozette - Mature - Multi-chap - Complete Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major character death, Torture, Blood, Gore - Gen - Jashinism, Jashnist Sakura, Dark Comedy, Sakura-centric
(Mind Content and Archive warnings) Fic summary: "The invasion of Konoha during the chuunin exam didn't fail. Team seven is broken, people are dead, and Sakura is hurt and frightened and a very long way from home. Alternative summary: In which Sakura carries half of Hidan across two countries, leaving a trail of blood, bodies, and other people's legs." If you don't mind gore and blood, this fic was a delight to read. So many heart-wrenching moments but this concept was so interesting. F to Team 7 tho.
Pink Fang by Avulle - Teen - Multi-chap - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Sakura-centric, Kakashi is a good teacher, Chakra theory, Bamf!Sakura, Politics, Sakura is a little shit
Fic summary: "One day, after a particularly unpleasant failure of a mission, Kakashi takes a detour through the civilian quarter of Konoha and stumbles on a little pink-haired civilian girl who performs a flawless transformation technique with the wrong set of hand seals." The chakra theory and headcanons are mmmmm so tasty and crunchy. I love Sakura's and Kakashi's dynamic in the fic. Small feisty child bullies her teacher. It sure does escalate quickly And I love it.
Celestial Bodies and Anomalies by @/digitalta - Gen to Teen - Series - Ongoing - 2 completed works - Graphic depictions of violence - Gen - Uchiha Clan lore, Fictional Theology, Time travel, Sasuke-centric
I can't really do justice to this series trying to summarize it and put into words how much I love it. The arcs, the symbolism, the character dynamics, headcanons. I could on and on and never truly describe how much I love it. But ahg the writing is so fucking good. All around kudos to the worldbuilding, it's a wonder to read. Also 10/10 characterizations and interactions. I love Shuisi in this sklfjaldlsidf
The Soldier by panda_shi - Explicit - Ongoing - Graphic depictions of violence, Conditioning, Trauma, Blood and gore, Starvation, Isolation, Pet death, Dark themes - Gen - Anbu Root, Tenzou-centric
(Mind content warning and tags) ROOT worldbuilding my beloved. If you don't mind dark themes that this fic will explore, then you will love the angst in this. POOR TENZOU AHG AND GHFGNGHFGN THE HEADCANONS. THE DOG. OH GOD NOT THE DOG AAAAAAA This fic inspired some of my headcanons for TCASH

The Hooksborough Demon 🤍 10: I have wanted this for so long
You and two friends ventured into the location of an urban legend with the intention of exploring an abandoned building and having a laugh at small town lore for clout.
But after a series of mysterious events, you have turned to a forum a year later to try to piece everything together, and to find out what the fuck happened to Yoongi & Jimin.

157:18-237:53 (posted by TH3 on 01/24/2021)
Maybe it is linked to dreaming.
Inside the mist, or smoke, or whatever the fuck, I felt like I was being swept up into slumber like a tidal wave crashing down around me and ripping me from shore. And Jimin, he too said that he was awake one moment and falling asleep the next; completely overcome.
What is it that differentiates the dream Jimin had—where his body disappeared—and the dream Yoongi had—where his body stayed put?
Was it that rather than having the mist claim Yoongi, he was overcome some other way, perhaps by the image of dream Jimin? I don't know how to make any of this make sense. Then again...none of it makes sense, to begin with, so perhaps it is futile to try.
I had begun to have nightmares recently, where I was inside the mall. Is that how it begins? Is that how they disappeared? Was it the kind of dream that Jimin had, where his body goes with him into the other instance, as he called it? Is that linked to seeing the black smoke mist? Will the black smoke mist come for me, then, now that I have seen it too?
Perhaps it is already here, but I have not noticed it. I have not been recording myself or even taking photographs of myself. In fact, I am horrified to view myself through a camera for fear of the mist being real and being here with me.
But maybe it is already here with me.
I am much more well-rested with the new pills; rather than having nightmares, I simply do not dream. At first, waking up after being plunged into nothing was a little scary and left me feeling bleak and strange, but now it is a gift. A no-news-is-good-news situation. Maybe that is how I have managed to avoid disappearing for this long. Maybe I was meant to be swept away in a dream, but I put an end to them, for now.
Anyway, onto the video, I guess.
Timestamp 157:18. We make our way to the escalator to go upstairs and see if the mist and/or sporting goods store is there. We are all confident that the store is going to be there, and we do not hear any loud crashing sounds, which we believe have been indications of things shifting. Once we reach the top of the escalator, Jimin and I take out our flashlights to shed as much light onto the hallway as possible, and so far, according to Yoongi, there is no black mist, so we proceed.
Ahead we see it. A metal gate. The sporting goods store is there.
We all take off running toward the store. Maybe this is how we escape, we all think. There are always multiple exits in stores like these, which gives us all hope. I do not get a very good look at the lock mechanism of the door because Yoongi hands the camera to Jimin, who just holds it rather than looking through the viewfinder while Yoongi takes the bolt cutters from his backpack and cuts the lock open.
The camera is pointed in Yoongi's direction, but you mostly see his back and arms and the store in front of us. I remember just looking through the gate at all of the workout equipment on the other side, wondering how so much expensive stuff could just be left behind. I also remember wondering how none of it had disappeared or what the rules were for things disappearing and moving. After all, this stuff had been largely forgotten about, hadn't it? Or were the urban legends and rumors about the place keeping everything largely intact? It does not make sense, but none of this really does.
Yoongi pulls the metal gate open and then takes the camera back from Jimin. We enter the store rather frantically, and I pull the metal gate down behind us even though it does not really matter if it is kept open; as far as we know, nobody else is inside this mall. We run through the store, searching for a way to get down to the main level so that we can escape when we finally come to a set of escalators. Jimin tries first, slowly, while holding onto the railings with both arms before we deem it safe and follow.
Timestamp 169:58. At the bottom of the escalator, to the right, is a huge glass door. It is boarded up, but it is an exit. We start that way when we hear the loud sound of something shifting around in the mall behind us. Yoongi turns in that direction, and everything goes black. I remember watching Yoongi jump back in fear, stumble, and drop the camera to his side. Shortly after, I began to feel weak and sleepy and fell to the floor. I assume the same happened for Jimin.
I only vaguely remember what happens next. Of course, nothing had happened to our physical bodies, as far as I know, because eventually, we woke up just as we had fallen asleep, similar to how nothing happened to Jimin's physical body when he ripped his skin open and sucked the blood from his intestines in the other instance. But everything in this dream instance felt real.
I do not know where our physical bodies go when we are inside of the mist. The camera stayed, rather than disappearing like the photos or other forgotten items, because I am sure that whatever the mist was that controlled us wanted us to be able to look back on this.
In fact, the camera seems to be lifted and moved by some kind of force and not controlled by any of us because all 3 of us stand and form a line in front of the camera. I remember a voice inside of my head, like a deep low whisper that I could barely hear, was commanding me, and I followed its instruction.
Jimin stands to my right, and Yoongi stands to my left, and the voice tells us to strip, so we do. First our packs, then our jackets, our shirts, my bra, our pants, our underwear. We stand naked, hands to our sides, waiting for instruction.
I remember the voice saying take what you want, take what you want, take what you want, and rather than interpreting it as any physical item, what I wanted at the time was them. They seem to feel the same way, both of them turning and closing in on me, Jimin's mouth on my mouth and Yoongi's mouth on the back of my neck.
Honestly, I do not really want to detail this scene. It is pretty graphic in a way that makes me more uncomfortable than describing Jimin's intestines hanging out of his body. What happens between the three of us lasts about 42 minutes, and then we collapse and wake back up, in the waking world instance, and dressed with our backpacks on.
I recall that we remembered everything that had happened, and we all felt kind of weird. I had a hard time looking Jimin in the eye, and the two of them did not say much to each other.
Timestamp 217:03. Yoongi sets the camera on a shelf and finds a hammer not too far from the large boarded-up door, and he starts to pull at the wood that is covering it. It takes us about 6 minutes to pry a piece of wood off of the bottom of the glass door and another 8 to find a weight heavy enough to break through it. The entire time, the sound of things slamming around and moving in the mall is loud, shaking the floor at times, and it takes everything in us to keep moving and not let it distract us again.
Timestamp 232:22. Yoongi grabs the camera, and we get the fuck out. All you see is the ground as we run to the car. It is still pitch black outside.
Timestamp 236:01. There is another car parked behind ours, and we consider going to see if we can reach whoever it belongs to but decide against it. None of us want to turn back. None of us even look back at the mall one last time. We get in the car, panting and cursing, and at 237:53 Yoongi shuts the camera off.
The story does not end here, but I am ending here for tonight. Stay safe, and do not go to that fucking mall! 🤍
Comments:
kira_kurosaki on 01/25/2022 wtf this just gets weirder and weirder. now the mist stuff is like a fucking sex demon? as far as i'm concerned by y.g's last comment, you need to stop the pills, man. these things are messing with you still and you've got no idea because of the pills. stop taking them before it's too late.
// The feeling of their lips against your skin comes flooding back to you. It is not that you are ashamed of what happened in there, but you do not need everyone to know that. You do not need everyone reading the forum to know how you fell to your knees and took Jimin in your mouth and Yoongi in your hand, alternating between the two until their moans were singing like a chorus to your ears.
"I have wanted this for so long," Jimin tells you and Yoongi.
"Me too," Yoongi moans.
You felt the same. For as long as you have known the two of them, you have wanted to share them—to explore them and to let them explore you.
Dream state meant no gag reflex, no need for lube. Every feeling was heightened, like every nerve in your body had an electric current flowing through it. Yoongi laid on the cold floor while you rode him, bouncing on his cock with Jimin in your throat and his hands tightly gripping your hair. Your fingers dug into Jimin’s hips, your moans came out muffled and wet around him. You tried to choke on Jimin's cock, forcing it as far as it would go until tears fell down your face.
Then Jimin was on the floor, and you were riding him, taking him in your ass reverse cowgirl with Yoongi on his knees in front of you, lapping lazily at your cunt while you moaned and mewled, coming harder than you have ever come before. First, Yoongi's fingers entered your pussy, then he replaced them with his cock, fucking you in tandem with Jimin in your ass. You screamed and squealed from feeling so full, laying against Jimin's chest, submitting yourself to the two of them. You came again, followed by Jimin and Yoongi shortly after.
After Yoongi sat back and you peeled yourself from Jimin, Jimin got on his knees and sucked Yoongi's cock, moaning loudly and savoring your combined fluids. Yoongi seemed to be overly sensitive and begged Jimin to stop, but Jimin moaned as he took Yoongi in his mouth, ignoring Yoongi's pleas. Soon Yoongi was gripping Jimin by the hair, forcing his cock down Jimin's throat as Jimin drooled around him.
You got behind Jimin and plunged your tongue inside him, grinning as Jimin moaned and writhed from the unexpected feeling. With your fingers and tongue, you opened Jimin, readying him for Yoongi's cock, not that it was needed in the dream state, but you loved how Jimin tasted and sounded and felt.
Jimin crawled to Yoongi and sat on his cock, sinking all the way down with a loud moan. Yoongi laid against the floor, pliant and exhausted as Jimin took him steadily at first then roughly, slamming his ass against Yoongi’s thighs as they cried out. You joined them, sitting on Yoongi's face and gently gripping Jimin's cock in both hands, holding it lazily as he fucked himself through your fingers.
First, you came from Yoongi's tongue and lips on your clit, then Jimin came, which you took in your mouth, swallowing every drop he had to offer and moaning loudly as the sensation made Jimin grip onto your hair tightly. Finally, Yoongi came again, and you fell to the floor, exhausted.
Your eyes felt heavy, and then you were awake once more, fully dressed.
Although there was no physical sign of what had just happened, you still felt it, tingling with arousal and want, wishing it would happen again, in this instance, with the two of them as you broke out of the mall and made your way to the car.
As you take your nightly medication, your mind races with the scene in front of you. You have never watched yourself get fucked like this before, aside from the time in the hotel with Yoongi, and the few times you two masturbated together on webcam. You feel a little taken aback by how blissed out and beautiful you look.
You regret not having footage of the three of you in the hotel room that night, when you shared your bodies for real, in this instance, after having several beers and using a fuck ton of lube. //

OC’s Lore Summary: It can be a relief if you never encountered Sin. He is one creepy bat boi but surprisingly is nice to everyone. He has a strange pleasant concern for the health of others and is willing to help with minor injuries. Being near him alone always feels abit chilling but he will break that feeling with a joke or conversation. He just seems like a friendly bat most of the time.
Personality: Creepy but that can quickly be seen as just a unique thing about him. He is friendly as he talks to everyone and checks up on their health which Damián appreciates as he does too. There may be more underneath but unsure what it is.
Picrew (use as reference only plz sprites and drawn art more accurate)
Fun Facts: He was kicked out of Diasomnia for reasons no one will tell for some reason. He is friends still with alot of them so wonder why he was kicked out.
On his official NRC record he is listed as a "Large Brown Bat" species. This is false and was done to not panic students.
He is a member of quite a few horror/creepypasta club sites. He is working on writing his own creepypasta.
He loves spikes on clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. He is just a simp for spikes. He has alot of spots pierced with spikes on his body.
Art by @/majesties-quarters
While he doesn't look like the type he is working on his nursing certification as well and takes even scrapes seriously if he sees someone get hurt. While he isn't supposed to, he will patch you up since he carries a first aid bag that looks more like a gothic bag with vampire motifs on it.
He becomes quite flustered around feminine individuals during certain times. Others think he has a big fear of them but its for another reason.(Think blood then you will understand)
He is very scary if woken up during the daytime. His hair is wildly all over his head, his eyes have big eyebags, and he is likely to scream at you if you woke him or make a loud scream of annoyance.
picrew (use as reference only plz sprites and drawn art more accurate)
Upon a glance you may not notice or may but Sin has no human arms. His arms are part of his wings as if you look you will see a finger like tendion on top of wings. He will wiggle it happily if he sees you stareing.
He uses magic most times to use writing supplies, eat sometimes, and other things he can't normally do if he cant reach. He can also his feet as hands if he wants to.
He has amazing hearing far more better than most other species and can use his hearing like eyesight sometimes.
He adores the Diasomnia housewarden alot to point he joined his club but it's been rumored that they often get into arguments and fights despite being seen being friendly when others are near. Sin is quite close friendly to Damián aswell but this probably cause he knows the same thing Malleus knows.
Sin quite likes beasthumans as he tends to befriend only them but loves him a good smelling human too. He always mentioning smells which people take as a compliment.
He is sensitive to certain sounds and smells. If they hurting him very badly he will make it known something about you is making him feel awful.
He tends to fall out of trees cause he is clumsy. He has gotten used to sleeping on the ground cause he just keeps losing his footing. He blames the tree.
He has daytime and bright light blindness. He cant see when the sun is shining so bright or reflecting on things. Also artifical lights that are so bright like sun affect him to. He just sees fuzzy big ball of white light that intensity depends on the light source. He wears blindfolds and no face veils to deal with this. He can use sound to see things technically so its fine even tho it looks..wrong.

Favorite nosleep episodes
Hi!! I’ve been listening to a lot of nosleep but theres about 2000 episodes and I only like a handful of them, so heres my biased indefinite list of episodes I enjoyed. I’ll try to add the major triggers that I can remember. Definitely check the nosleep website for more triggers. I thought about tagging deaths too but tbh theres a lot of murder in the nosleep stories. I also considered splitting it between ‘not that scary/entry level stories’ and ‘actual nosleeps’ but horror is subjective. Note that all of these include a certain type of unreality, but that in some unreality is a stronger theme.
Long stories (specials are about 2 and a half hours long):
Whitefall - (not too scary imo) attempted harassment, isolated from civilization, cannibalism, psychological
My father finally told me what happened that day - (keeps me up at night) scopophobia, unreality/memory issues, stalking, crossdressing gay villain towards the end (but tbh problematic gay rights), kidnapping
The Hidden Webpage - (same author) scopophobia, unreality/memory issues, mistaken identity
Penpals - (spans over multiple stories, theres a full episode with all of them) scopophobia, stalking, pedophile, teen death (last episode), animal death (the ‘boxes’ episode)
Soft white damn series: 1. soft white damn 2. Sure to follow 3. Every leaf is a flower 4. The earth, the air, and you - body horror, unsettling noises, violence against women in later stories
Short stories:
Mr Banana - (ridiculous but still unsettling) body horror, self harm
Baked beans - breaking in
It’s locked - scopophobia, breaking in
The Mummer Man - body horror, torture, gore, unsettling noises (seriously this narration fucks with me fuck you peter lewis)
SS tribute - drowning/threats of drowning/hypoxia
Everything I know is a dream - accident (cant remember what exactly, car accident?), hospitalization, unreality
yourfaceyourporn - (no actual porn) scopophobia, violence against women, unreality/memory issues, mistaken identity(?)
The Tall Dog - child in peril, im sure theres another fear trigger for whatever the fuck that tall dog is
How to summon the butter street hitchhiker - implied suicides
ETAOIN SHRDLU - (not too scary imo) implied violence against women (I had to check its reddit page for more info), stalking
The Smiling Man - just a happy weird guy
The animals went in two by two - kidnapping(?), children in peril
Eater
Sanguine Libations - self harm, suicide, gore
Beyond Vantablack - unreality
The dirt road man - car accident
Honorary mentions:
Just pretty cool stories that I dont think are that ‘nosleep’ per se or didnt hit me that hard
The superbowl party - car crash, verbally abusive boyfriend/husband, excessive alcohol consumption
The name eater - (cool guy who eats names. more of a lore story)
The whistlers - (long story, I didnt think this one was all that special but a lot of people like it so i might as well add it)
Not all lighthouses are built to guide ships - (more of a standard monster story but still pretty good)
Theres probably more but I’ll add them if I can think of them

A YouTube channel named FoundFix is a YouTuber that explains a movie and what the ending means. They made a video about Willy's Wonderland which stars Nicholas Cage who plays a mute janitor that is tricked into cleaning a children's entertainment place where he has to battle with killer animatronics.I watched the movie and I thought it was wacky and just fun to watch. A lot of people have been comparing the movie to Five nights at freddys and i get it, however FoundFix mentions a difference that made me need to write this. They described FNAF as something that is more directed towards kids like it was for kids while Willys Wonderland has a lot of gore in it. In Game wise with the FNAF, I understand why kids would want to play this game because it's about animatronics coming to life and as the games keep going, they are fun and you are also given mini games to complete. Despite the fact that some games like FNAF 2 and FNAF 4 can be a bit stressful and also terrifying. But it's the lore itself where I draw the line as it being a friendly scary type game for kids.
I think the lore in FNAF as tragic, disturbing and also horrifying. Let's talk about how the main lore is about how 5 children went missing and the bodies have never been found yet the animatronics themselves was starting to rot from the inside and have this rotting corpse like smell. Which makes you realise that the child murderer we later find out is named William Afton after killing the five children, their bodies were stuffed into the animatronics. The childen end up possessing the animatronics but they are feel in agony and want to be free however feel the need to stay in order get vengeance on William Afton. Many of the other animatronics that are introduced have their own lore that tells you they are more than just for an entertainment for children like the toy animatronics have a criminal database in them while the funtime animatronics where program to lure and capture children because they were built by William Afton himself. One animatronic who goes by SpringTrap is possessed by William himself who slowly and painfully died in the springlock Bonnie suit where the locks shuts on him.
The events that happened FNAF is another thing that needs to be talk about and how many of them end in a tragic and unsettling way but also the disturbing elements that comes with it. William Afton is the co-owner of Freddy's Pizzaria along with Henry. When fans and the community where theorizing about the purple guy, the biggest theory being that he's an employee or maybe a night guard not someone who owns the restaurant. While it's hard to figure what happened first, we just know that William's children and Henry's daughter meet a tragic end. William's daughter Elizabeth gets killed by Cirus Baby a funtime animatronic and goes on to possess her. While his youngest son gets his head crushed by Fredbear after a prank gone wrong. In the FNAF 4, the crying child is clearly in distress and traumatised and has a fear of the place. William's older brother Michael suffer a lot that not even death can set him free. Meanwhile Henry's daughter Charlie is murdered by William outside of the restaurant where she was locked out.
Just because FNAF doesn't have that much gore doesn't mean it's not scary. It's also unfair to compare a game to a movie especially when FNAF maybe getting it's own where ever that may be.

10 Mistakes to Avoid in Horror

Masterlist || Work In Progress || Studyblr || Studygram

Valuing Shock Over Imagination
I’m only going to say this once: readers will always choose an imaginative story over a shocking one. Shock horror, gore, cliché, and easy solutions that the characters overlook for the sake of plot progression is shitty writing. Of course, shock, gore, and tropes all have their place in most horror stories but they are not the foundation, they’re the décor.
Not Doing Your Research
Just because a horror story isn’t a medical drama or a science fiction series doesn’t mean you don’t need to do your due diligence. The toughest part of horror is toeing the line that is the reader’s suspension of disbelief, and the most obvious mistake a writer can make that destroys this KEY part of the reader’s experience is to screw up the details. Research the way torture looks, feels, and how it affects the victim’s mental and physical state. If you’re going to reference or retell an urban legend, do some research on the lore rather than rely on the bits and pieces you remember from a 3rd grade camping trip.
It doesn’t have to be textbook level accuracy. It’s fiction. But all readers have their own patchwork collection of knowledge on the facts used in fiction, so you want to avoid pulling them out of the story by getting something wrong due to a lack of research.
Cliche
Unethical experiment, bas phone service, playing with demons, Car breaks down in a forest, family trip to a haunted house, ghost hunters, etc. are all clichés that most can agree have been beaten to death. The problem is not a “lack of originality”, it’s a lack of effort. When a writer scribbles a bunch of tropes on little pieces of paper and then picks 3 randomly out of a hat, it’s easy to tell.
Remember that it’s perfectly fine to use things that have been seen before, even over and over again, simply because they’re staples of the genre, but unless you make it your own, the reader will lose interest in not only your story, but your entire body of work. Horror is one of the most harshly judged genres in the literary sphere, and when a reader pegs you as a lazy horror writer, it sticks and it spreads.
Boring Main Character
Everyone on the planet has complained about the presence of boring main characters in horror. It’s not just about making the story more interesting or complicated, it’s about giving the reader someone worthy to root for. Humans are naturally desensitized to pain and fear that isn’t relevant to them. If the character is another faceless, nameless victim, there’s no reason for the reader to care whether they survive and recover or not. There’s no thrill in following their perspective because boring main character do not allow the reader to insert themselves. That’s not the goal of a horror story.
You don’t want the reader to feel like they’re running from the killer directly, because their first instinct when faced with fear is to run (disengage from the story). You want the reader to feel like they’re watching someone else run from a killer and that there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it. They should be invested in the survival of this character, and feel helpless and scared FOR them.
Boring Antagonist
Yes, most people are scared of death and pain and helplessness, but those should be products of a really strong antagonist. It’s hard to be afraid of an antagonist in any story because, deep down, we know that the hero (almost) always wins. Horror is the beautiful exception to that rule. It’s a coin toss as to whether the protagonist will survive and recover from the conflict of the plot, so take advantage of this uncertainty and make the villain truly and complicatedly terrifying. Make them human, deconstruct their motivations, and show the reader the parts of the antagonist’s point of view that most everyone can empathize with. There’s nothing scarier to an audience than their reflection in a black mirror.
No Stakes.. At All.
Yes, dying is very bad and very much something to avoid, but it shouldn’t be the only outcome of the conflict resolution that the reader is afraid of. Let me put it this way: there should be at least one or two moments where the main character is in a situation that prompts them to come to terms with their fate. This is where you show the true stakes of a horror story. “My kids will be without a mother”, “My dad will be stuck without a son to look after him”, “my daughter in the other room depended on me and there’s nothing I can do to save her and it’s all my fault”. These are people’s WORST real-life fears and (hopefully) a book is the closest they will ever come to experiencing them. Be aware of that.
Excluding Humor
Horror stories can have jokes in them. The best way to hit a reader really hard with suspense and dread is to lead in with a joke. Have a dad and his son reminiscing and joking about the son’s childhood in the midst of the situation. It humanizes characters to give them a sense of humor, so throw in a joke here and there to show the reader exactly what’s at stake. Protagonists are meant to be the light that the antagonist is trying to snuff out, so try to let the light in a little bit.
Shying Away From Real-Life Horror
Gore, ghosts, and surprises are staples of the horror genre, but an integral piece of the genre that’s often overlooked when one is analyzing horror is the real-life implications of the story. For example, Misery by Stephen King is scary because it’s got an obsessed fan+kidnapping+a hammer, but it’s also scary because it shows the worst case scenario of things like idolization, parasocial interaction, and the fine line between idolizing an artist and feeling like they owe you something because you support their creation. Horror stories should always have two edges: the surface-level fear and the deeper meaning.
Telling Instead of Showing
This one’s pretty simple, but worth mentioning. Don’t say that Annie Wilkins “hobbled” Paul Sheldon. Make Annie Wilkins grimace at Paul Sheldon before bringing a hammer down upon the round of his ankle, with a resounding crack and an agonized shout following immediately before she continues to the next.
(Sorry about all of the Misery references, I just watched the movie again.)

Halloween Recommendations: Intermediate Mode
The following recommendations are for Halloween or horror movies for the month of October. Movies listed here will have spoilers and general warnings. Movies listed under 'Intermediate' will involve horror movies that will be scary, but I will provide warnings. Due to the increase of difficulty, jump scare warnings will not be provided.
TAKE NOTE THAT THESE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE FOR ADULTS AND YOUNG ADULTS NOT FULLY COMFORTABLE WITH HORROR! THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR KIDS!
----------------------------------
Conjuring 2 (2016) movie:
If you managed to go through the ‘Easy’ list only to question why this is on the Intermediate, it’s because this movie is slightly harder for one reason: Valak. Valak is the infamous ‘Nun’ of this movie. I know someone who legitimately went from “Conjuring 1? This stuff is for babies!” to “Nope. I’m done watching horror movies! That nun thing freaked me out.” So I can tell you right now: If Valak the demonic nun is too far for you to handle just on general phobias and expectations alone, then I would steer clear of this one. That said, I adore this movie. It is my favorite in the series.
Okay, general plot: A family in London is suddenly being tormented by a demon that is following them wherever they go. When they call upon the help of the Warren family, evidence proves that this spirit may be connected to the hauntings and murders of Amityville (if you don't know the story of Amityville, let the movie explain it, cause the real ACTUAL thing is legitimately scary). The Warrens must find a way to stop this demon before it can harm not only the family but the Warrens themselves.
This is certainly scarier than Conjuring 1. Jump scares are a bit more frequent and heavier than 1. Take note that not only are we dealing with the nun, but also The Crooked Man.
Warnings:
-Child Endangerment
----------------------------------
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) movie:
Ah, a classic! If you know nothing about this movie, I will explain briefly: The teenagers of Springwood are experiencing bizarre nightmares involving a man in a striped sweater with knife claws hunting them down. When the nightmares begin to lead to grizzly murders, the kids soon learn the horrific legacy of Freddy Krueger.
It should go without saying in a film involving a guy with finger blades, but expect a little bit of gore. I was almost tempted to put this in the ‘easy’ section, but the opening and closing murders are plenty scary. Also, the prospect of being murdered by your nightmares is fairly creepy and has gotten to plenty of people.
I can’t recommend any of the sequels, purely because I haven’t seen them all. I’ve seen Jason vs Freddy, which I can’t recommend unless you like both series (Kelly Rowland memes aside). And don’t watch the remake. I’m not someone who craps on remakes very much (hell, I might even recommend a few), but there is nothing of particular value outside of Quentin Smith (of Dead by Daylight fame).
Warnings:
-Child Endangerment
-Implications of child death
-Sexual predator
----------------------------------
Friday the 13th movie series:
I’m just going to kind of bundle the entire series here. I’m going to be real with you: This series deserves its legacy as being a horror legend, but acting like this series is quality horror is like acting original Lays potato chips is fine dining. Sure, it tastes good, but there are better options, especially for rookies. Although, I’d say the seventh movie in the series (Friday the 13th VII) is closer to ‘Wavy Lays’ or ‘Barbeque Lays’ chip quality, meaning it’s surprisingly good.
When young Jason Voorhees drowns in Crystal Lake due to the negligence of some camp counselors, a dark legacy is born within the campgrounds. Countless horrific murders befall the camp. Could it possibly be the lumbering corpse of Jason, brought back to life for revenge? Or is it someone else entirely? For those who don’t know: Not every Friday the 13th movie is Jason, but most of them are. The first one, in particular, is a different case.
These movies are basic and classic slasher flicks. A bunch of teens hang out like nothing is up, while Jason (or somebody else) goes around violently murdering a majority of them. Only real recommendations I can give:
-The first two movies give a standard explanation of who Jason is. To be fair, almost every Friday the 13th movie explains it, but still, if you’re dying to know. Just take note, I wouldn’t exactly call those two quality movies, and the lore ain’t that deep.
-Friday the 13th VII: A movie where the final girl is different because she’s a telepath! That’s right, Jason Voorhees goes to battle with a teenage girl who can move stuff with her mind. Not going to lie: It’s kind of awesome. And you don’t need any lore outside of basically what I’ve told you.
-Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan: Absolutely hilarious and stupid. Granted, it’s still the same kind of movie, but Jason inadvertently ends up in Manhattan and just starts murdering people there. What makes it great is the bizarre sense of humor it has throughout, ranging from Jason confused as to why there is a billboard with a hockey mask (his infamous mask) on it... to Jason falcon punching a dude’s head off into an open dumpster.
Honestly, most of the movies are pretty mid in horror, but high in gore. There is also the remake that came out years ago, but I’d say that that one is a bit harder in terms of horror, as most of the ones I’ve mentioned are cheesy. I don’t find the remake ‘good’, but… it’s there and definitely not the worst remake.
Warnings:
-A LOOOOOOOT of sex, but then they get murdered five minutes later.
-Murders vary greatly
----------------------------------
Halloween 2 (1981) movie:
Following up the events of the original movie, Laurie Strode finds that Michael Myers is not yet done with her, and that her connection to him is a lot more real than she could ever believe. Michael returns to hunt his ultimate prey within the confines of Haddonfield Hospital.
This movie is definitely a step up from the low body count and gore of the previous film, but I still prefer the original. From this point on, Halloween becomes a bit more similar to most slasher flicks, but somehow, Michael just makes it entertaining. Halloween 2 manages to be about as creepy as the first. Hospitals are already pretty creepy, so having an entire slasher flick in one with an established horror legend just works. Only problem is that the gore is amped up, ranging from violent stabbings to somebody being completely drained of blood. But if by some chance, the events of Halloween 1 left you wanting a conclusion, this is just one direction you can go. JUST TAKE NOTE, THIS MOVIE IS NOT CANON TO THE EVENTS OF THE RECENT HALLOWEEN MOVIES OF 2019 AND 2021! If you want to go in THAT direction, you will have to enter ‘Hard’ difficulty.
If, by some chance, you’re interested in this series:
-Halloween 3 is an original story without Michael Myers. It has a bit of a cult following after it was considered the worst part of the series for the longest time. It’s certainly not my favorite horror flick, but feel free to look into it. I can assure you, it is not the worst ‘Halloween’ movie. This one didn’t have Coolio.
-Halloween 4 and 5 follows its own canon where Laurie had a daughter, died, and now the daughter is Michael’s new target. Honestly, these are pretty good, especially because Jamie (Laurie’s daughter) has a telepathic link to Michael, leading to some supernatural goodness. Just… don’t watch Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. It ends Jamie’s story in a terrible way and is just… horrendous, no matter how much you like Paul Rudd.
-Halloween 20 Years Later, or H20, follows a story where Laurie didn’t have a daughter or died, but instead, Laurie has a son and is still alive 20 years after the events of Halloween. Of course, Michael is here to start shit and hunt both her and her son. This is followed up by Halloween Resurrection, which is just… HILARIOUSLY AWFUL!
-I will mention the Rob Zombie remakes and the new series in the ‘Hard’ difficulty. I recommend the new series more than the Rob Zombie series, but take note that I would rank all of them on a hard difficulty due to the sheer brutality some of them thrive in.
Warnings:
-Shockingly more violent than the first one
----------------------------------
Trick R Treat (2007) movie:
When this movie came out, I loved it, but I noticed that not many people liked it. Over time, this movie has become a cult classic, and that fascinates me to not end. Trick R Treat is a movie that deals with several storylines happening at the same time. I can’t really go into every story without spoiling some of the awesome surprises. All I can really say is that a bunch of messed up stuff happens on Halloween night in this one town.
This one doesn’t have very many jump scares. Most of the horror comes from the sheer gore and brutality of it all. This movie isn’t afraid to murder kids and quite a few die within the film, but it manages to be a really fun and crazy Halloween ride all the way. And Sam, the ghoulish child spirit of Halloween, is a fantastic mascot. And the Red Riding Hood storyline is one of my favorite story endings in most horror anthology stories.
Honestly, the main thing that’s scary about this one is the gore and the opening scene. Rest of it is just kind of a wild ride of blood and guts taking place during Halloween.
Warnings:
-Child endangerment
-Child death
----------------------------------
Doctor Sleep (2019) movie:
If by some chance you took my recommendation to watch the Shining or you’ve seen the Shining in general, this movie is the follow up.
Dan, the boy from the first movie, has grown up and managed a steady and safe connection with his abilities. However, his abilities suddenly lead him to find a group of similar powered adults who hunting down and murder children who have the same power. Dan must work with a little girl who may be the next target to find and stop these murderous bastards.
If I’m being perfectly honest, I would say this movie is less scary than the Shining… if it weren’t for ONE SCENE! As I mentioned, the villains of this movie hunt and murder children, and this movie has a scene where the villain group up and stab a little boy to death. It is horrifying. The boy begs for his life and sobs as they stab him over and over, feeding off his lifeforce/powers draining from his body.
The actor they got for the scene did such an amazing job that the actors playing the adults would stop during filming and ask if he was okay, the kid would be like, “Oh yeah, I’m fine! Keep going!” with a smile on his face, and it would freak everyone out. Honestly, it’s a funny behind the scenes story you can read about, and it might help take the horror of the scene into a lighter perspective.
If by some chance, the visual image of a young boy being violently murdered while begging for his life sounds too horrible for you, then by all means skip it. I do like this movie quite a bit, but if that scene is too much, it’s certainly not worth it.
Warnings:
-Child endangerment
-CHILD DEATH!
----------------------------------
Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) movies:
Hilariously, both of these movies can pretty much be two different genres of horror, but they should be put together. Alien is a slow burn of a horror flick where the crew of a slow moving spacecraft start to realize that an alien lifeform is inside their ship, and the lifeform is evolving. Aliens is the immediate continuation where the survivor(s) of the first movie are forced to team up with a unit of soldiers in order to combat and execute whatever aliens remain. In other words: Alien (1979) is a suspense horror sci fi, while Aliens (1986) is an action horror sci fi.
Neither movie is particularly ‘gory’, but it does have some gruesome events that involve alien impregnation, which is super gross.
I’m not huge on alien theme horror. I usually don’t find them particularly scary. However, I recognize this movie as an invaluable factor in the horror genre, along with another alien horror flick that I will probably mention here. Also, I wouldn’t recommend any other films of this franchise other than these two, unless you are absolutely DYING for more. Even then, the quality drops from here on.
Warnings:
-Gross alien stuff
-Child endangerment in the second movie
----------------------------------
Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990):
Calling these two action flicks a ‘horror movie’ is a stretch, but the Predator species have been seen as horror icons for some time, the same way the Xenomorphs are. So… I’ll count it.
Where Alien dealt with a lifeform that would attack like a violent animal, the Predator lives by a code that lets it kill violently yet efficiently but with a slight moral code. This fact leads to a very interesting monster that picks and chooses its kills, but when it does kill, it goes for either the most efficient kill or the most violent kill. Makes for an awesome horror movie monster.
This first one is essentially an Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie with an entire team of soldiers going against one Predator, as they get picked off one by one. The second movie deals with a Predator attacking the streets of LA, leading to a lot of police and gang violence. In other words, they’re both essentially action flicks.
That said, I can’t understate that these movies are gory. There is a lot of decapitation, spine removal, stabbing, shooting, and a large variety of sci-fi original kills. Also, some people get skinned, so that’s fun! But I wouldn’t recommend these if I didn’t think the Predator is such a cool monster design. Again, this is unfortunately a series I can’t recommend beyond these two movies, but… I do find the first Alien vs Predator to be a guilty pleasure.
Warnings:
-Heavy gore
----------------------------------
Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead 2 (1987) movies:
Horror fans might be blinking at me over this ranking, since this series is known for comedy more than horror sometimes. But you guys forget: The first movie had a girl being raped by a tree, and the first possession scene is pretty scary. Don’t question me.
Evil Dead is the story of a bunch of teenagers who decide to hang out in a cabin in the middle of the woods, cause who wouldn’t, and find the book of the dead in the basement of the house, cause who wouldn’t. When they decide to read it, all hell ensues.
This series is pretty famous for being a bit of a horror comedy, but I’ll be real: The first movie plays the horror straight. It is gory. It has jumpscares. It has deaths. It is a horror movie, as silly as it might seem sometimes. A lot of people tend to forget how gory and creepy the first movie is because everyone always praises the second movie a lot more, which… valid. But still, it’s there, and it’s not a bad movie.
If by some chance the first movie seems too extreme for you, you can skip to the second movie, which gives a ten minute recap of the first. The second movie takes place about… five minutes after the first. Like, it literally picks up right after. It is still violent and creepy (especially with the claymation scene), but the horror leans into this… Looney Tunes wackiness where the main character goes balls off the wall insane and slapstick starts taking place. It is a fucking ride! If gore doesn’t bother you at all, then I super recommend it, just because.
Also, if you do see Evil Dead 2, go see Army of Darkness. It’s an immediate sequel, it isn’t scary, and it’s basically a comedy.
And for once, I can recommend the remake… but that would be ranked in ‘Hard’ cause the gore and scares from that one are an entire tier higher.
Warnings:
-Heavy gore
-A girl gets raped by a tree
----------------------------------
The Exorcist (1973) movie:
Personally, I find this movie easy. I watched it as a kid, and the only thing that scared me was the face of the devil. Rest of it is easy as pie. But my experience of people who are afraid of horror movies are sometimes people who come from religious backgrounds, and the Exorcist is the pinnacle of ‘demonic possession’ movies. I’ve heard people call this the ‘scariest movie ever’, but really, it was just scary for its time. I want to say that I’ve seen demonic possession movies that are scarier, but I can’t say I’ve seen that many that are this iconic.
Most of the horror of this movie is purely the ‘inhuman’ aspect of the possessed girl. She’ll move around strangely. She’ll vomit on the priests. She’ll speak in the voices of other people. As a kid who didn’t grow up in a religious background, this movie was kind of hilarious and awesome to me. “She just told the priest to suck her dick! Kids can’t say that!” But make no mistake: Horror movies scared the crap out of me. I was just able to handle this one.
At the end of the day, a classic demonic possession movie is a classic demonic possession movie. And if you do watch it and feel like trying to laugh it off after, maybe consider watching Repossessed (1990), which is a parody of the same movie. Or if you want something slightly scarier, maybe Exorcist III. I haven’t seen it, but it’s widely considered a cult classic along with the original.
Warnings:
-Child endangerment
----------------------------------
Child’s Play (1988) movie:
When a serial killer casts an ancient spell within a toy shop in hopes to cheat death, the attempt leads to him possessing the body of a popular toy known as Buddy. When the possessed doll gets adopted by a young boy, the boy comes to learn that he is not playing with Buddy, but instead… Chucky.
Personally, I’ve never been scared of Chucky, but I know creepy dolls scare the crap out of people, which is fair. Unlike Annabelle, Chucky ABSOLUTELY moves around and kills. This series, in general, has become so silly and absurd, that I can’t in good faith recommend the entire series unless you absolutely love this movie. Not that I don’t watch them myself, I totally do. I find Chucky to be hilarious.
Most of Chucky’s kills are pretty tame. I’d say the worst is an electrocution scene where a guy gets electrocuted toward the point of bleeding out of his eyes and mouth, but that’s it. Honestly, the gore isn’t that bad. Can’t say the same for the rest of the movies, where the gore amplifies, but if you wanted to just do the first movie of this series, it’s pretty safe.
Just… for the love of god, don’t watch the remake.
Warnings:
-Child Endangerment
-Creepy doll
----------------------------------
Creepshow (1982) and Creepshow 2 (1987) movies:
This is an anthology series, and personally, it’s one of the best. Each movie involves multiple stories told throughout. I would say that almost all of them are pretty manageable, but each one tackles a different kind of fear.
The first movie deals with:
-A corrupt and horrible father coming back from the grave to exact revenge
-A man becoming infected with a plant lifeform that begins to consume his body (imo the weakest of the two movies, I always fast forward out of boredom)
-A cheating couple being tormented by the man stuck in their love triangle
-A terrifying monster in a crate frightens a man who desperately wants to kill his wife
-A germaphobe man getting attacked relentless by roaches and insects
Second movie deals with:
-The statue of a Native American coming to life to exact revenge
-A flesh eating blob feeds on a group of people on a raft
-A woman driving home alone is sought out by a violent hitchhiker
I feel like listing the stories might tell you if you’re down for these. I know people who absolutely cannot handle the monster in the box or the flesh eating blob, which I can’t judge because I can’t handle the roach one. So if you ever want to fast forward those stories, that option is always there.
The gore is pretty rough at parts. Quite a bit of decapitation. The scenes where the blob feeds on the swimmers is pretty damn gruesome. Honestly, the only deaths that ever really stuck with me in these movies are the deaths of the old couple in the Native American statue story, and those deaths are framed as a tragedy (the statue doesn’t kill them, some assholes do).
Otherwise, there are some good scary stories with a wide range of horror. I’d recommend all of them, but approach with caution. And don’t be afraid to skip a story if you don’t think you can handle it. Like I said, I often skip the germaphobe one, cause that episode is GROSS.
Warnings:
-Gore
-Slight body horror
-Insect/bug/roach horror (my weakness)
----------------------------------
Haunting of Hill House (2018) Netflix series:
A family that once lived in a haunted house struggles through the trauma they experienced there. However, when one of the siblings dies shockingly, the hauntings return to torment each of them once again. A once broken family must reunite and return to the house that ruined their lives. Episode by episode, the mystery of what happened to Hill House is revealed to us.
I cannot recommend this show enough. As a horror fan. As a human being. As a drama fan. As someone who comes from a complicated family with a lot of siblings. This show is amazing. Now, I will admit that it is dialogue heavy, but that’s for a reason. The characters are struggling through their individual turmoils, and that gets HEAVY. The first few episodes will focus on each individual sibling, which is rocky at first since the two older siblings are kind of dicks (and they are the focus of the first two episodes), but they are absolutely necessary as they help establish what happened. While the first four episodes are quite good, episode 5 will blow your mind. And then you have to finish the show from there.
The horror is strong, but it mostly involves horror that you see coming or horror that is just emotionally overwhelming (in the sense of ‘oh my god, I can’t believe that happened, that’s so horrible’). I really wanted to put this on ‘Easy’, but I think one of the jumpscares and the overall emotional existentialism of this movie could be a lot for some.
Also worth noting: I can’t recommend Bly Manor, in good faith, unless you REALLY liked Hill House. Bly Manor is just not as good as Hill House, but it’s good if you want something more. If by some chance you watched both and were like, “Wow! I liked them, but for some reason, I just want to be MORE DEPRESSED!”, then you can go watch Midnight Mass.
Warnings:
-Child Endangerment
-Child Death
-Suicide
-Childhood Trauma
-Close Ups of Dead Bodies (not in a gory way, but in a ‘this corpse has hit rigor mortis and has white eyes, let’s get a nice close look just to creep you out’)
-Cat death

A very incomplete list, but here's a few I enjoyed off the top of my head:
Archive 81: A young archivist is hired to digitise a collection of strange housing records made by a social worker in the 90s. Alone in a remote outpost, he has a very bad time. S1 is a short mystery/cosmic horror which turns into a full blown weird fiction/cosmic & body horror in S2, and adds a touch of urban fantasy in S3. Really creative soundwork, I am a big fan of this podcast and how well it uses the audio medium and also the weird but endearing importance it places on friendship and found family but also the gore.
The Blood Crow Stories: Each season is a different story, but they're all ominous and brutal. S1 we listen with a student who's doing his thesis on a collection of tapes made aboard a doomed cruise ship in the second world war. S2 is a religious horror-western. S3 is a cyberpunk story following an emergency services operator who keeps hearing people get killed on the phone. Also there's demons. S4 has ghosts, cults, and the early days of cinema. Not available on spotify.
Darkest Night: A young scientist gets a placement on a project trying to develop a machine that shows the last half hour of someone's life. Incredible amounts of gore.
DEADHOUSE: I don't normally have much to say about podcasts by big groups, but this 3-episode show put out by the BBC really makes the most of it's format. Super crisp audio and clever soundwork. Each episode is standalone, there's a reanimation one, a meditation-murder one and a you are a corpse one.
Down: a team is sent on a submarine down a possibly literal bottomless pit in Antarctica. Nobody likes what they find.
Duggan Hill: After her ex-girlfriend and still-friend goes missing while on call, a recent graduate follows her to her childhood town. Something isn't right, and people don't always remember what they're supposed to. Deluxe bit of cosmic horror. Not on spotify.
I am in Eskew: Stories from a man living in something that deeply wishes to be a city. Very creative, brutal, and strange but oddly soothing.
Janus Decending: A xenoanthropologist and a xenopalentologist investigate the ruins of an alien civilisation and find more than they expected. An unusual format: his logs are from last to first, and hers from first to last, and they really make the most of this. Personal advice: listen to the supercut instead of each individual episode.
The Petrol Station: Short podcast consisting of well written stories from a petrol/gas station attendant living in a remote scottish village. A TMA-esque feel to it.
SAYER: a series of very ominous AI guide you about to do various odd and often offputting tasks. Great piece of sci-fi horror.
The Sheridan Tapes: in 2019, popular horror writer Anna Sheridan went missing and left behind a collection of strange tapes. Listen along with an equally strange young detective as he tries to find out what happened to her, and becomes far more involved than he ever could've predicted.
The Silt Verses: In a modern world where gods are both commercialised and banned, two followers of an outlawed river god go on a pilgrimage. Some fantastic body horror in this, as well as very tasty worldbuilding.
Station Blue: A repair worker is sent to prep a base ahead of scientific use alone in Antarctica and has a read bad time of it. Based in part with the writer's own experiences with untreated bpd and isolation.
WOE.BEGONE: The time travel murder game! An ambitious man plays an alternate reality game of a different sort and finds himself challenged to do all sorts of awful things. But for the prize on offer, it might just be worth it. Not scary as such but often visceral. Great if you like endearing asshole leads.
The Underwood Collection: You mention enjoying TMA. I am a fan of this fan-made spinoff. The audio quality leaves something to be desired but I really enjoy the writing, and they make fantastic use of the existing lore.
Does anyone have any good horror podcast recommendations?

Piri’s Ultimate List Of Horror Recs (2017 Version)
my go-to compilation of ever single horror/horror-related media i’ve ever enjoyed, including slashers, paranormal, thrillers, creature features, and much, much more 🎃
note: this list has trigger warnings but i am operating under the assumption that you are okay with the standard level of explicit sexuality, vulgarity, violence, and gore present in mainstream horror
horror
original nightmare on elm street series, but especially 1, 3, 4, 6, and freddy vs. jason (tw for implied pedophilia and explicit child murder, tw for rape in #6)
friday the 13th (original and remake)
honestly all the friday the 13th sequels are A Treasure but if you want The Core Canon watch 1-3
my bloody valentine (original)
psycho (original) and tbh all its sequels (tw for sort-of-kind-of incest vibes)
psycho ii and psycho iv are my favorites because (1) meg tilly is adorable in psycho ii and (2) psycho iv has a harley quinn/norman bates cameo and nobody can convince me otherwise
child’s play, child’s play 2, bride of chucky, maybe some sequels after that idk i haven’t seen them yet :(
scream franchise
not the mtv scream series
i mean s1 is decent but there are definitely other horror shows that i would recommend more (will show up later in this post)
1-3 are the best, 4 is worth watching if you really like the characters but as a concept the series has p much run its course by then
tw for rape mentions in scream 1 and 3
predator
peeping tom
kenneth branagh’s frankenstein (tw for a graphic depiction of death in childbirth)
james whale’s frankenstein
bride of frankenstein
the phantom of the opera (1925)
the phantom of the opera (1989) (tw for mild body/surgical horror, general grossness; personally speaking, this is one of my all-time favorite phantom adaptations, because 1. robert englund as the phantom hello oh my god, 2. although it’s much more of a slasher movie than a gothic romance, it does an amazing job of portraying the tragedy in erik’s backstory and his attraction to christine, without implying that he is entitled to christine’s affection and that her love will magically fix him, as some phantom adaptations do)
the phantom of the opera (1943)
alien franchise
the wolfman (2010)
darling (tw for rape)
house on haunted hill (original and remake)
final destination franchise
medium raw: night of the wolf (tw for pedophilia and child murder)
the babadook
the final girls [horror comedy]
the shining (tw for implied child abuse)
the cabin in the woods
hellraiser (tw for incest-y vibes for very brief periods of time)
heathers (tw for eating disorders, suicide, everything high school kids are insensitive assholes about)
from dusk til dawn
an american werewolf in london
the guest
it follows (tw for dubious consent)
nightwatch (tw for implied necrophilia/descriptions of necrophilia, self-mutilation)
re-animator (tw for rape, pedophilia mentions)
carrie (original) (tw for child abuse, religious iconography)
the remake had some interesting like... subtext/imagery but other than that it was pretty *wet fart noise*
the awakening
the craft
the blair witch project
honestly i loved the book of shadows: blair witch 2 bc it kind of parallels the crucible but i can admit that objectively it is Terrible
elvira, mistress of the dark [spooky comedy]*
american mary (tw for rape, (consensual surgical) genital mutilation)
fright night (original and remake)
jaws
listen. this is a horror movie. it was a horror book before that. it was specifically written and later adapted for the purpose of scaring and entertaining people. real life is nothing like this. real sharks are nothing like this. there’s nothing wrong with this movie scaring you but there is everything wrong with using this movie as an excuse to advocate for the wholesale slaughter of animals. sharks are quite possibly the most graceful and beautiful creatures on this earth and i will personally fight anyone who says otherwise
halloween franchise
1-5 are the best imo but no matter what skip #3 because it literally has nothing to do with any of the other movies
not the rob zombie remakes, those are awful
let the right one in [swedish (?) film, watch with subtitles]
rosemary’s baby (original)
night of the living dead (original)
28 days later
suspiria
silent hill (tw for child molestation)
crimson peak (tw for incest)
the lost boys
interview with the vampire
the ring
one missed call
the raven (2012)
repo! the genetic opera
teeth (tw for rape, incest, it’s??????? about a girl who literally has razor-sharp teeth in her vagina and it’s a very tongue-in-cheek commentary on religious repression???? so idk like it’s a wild ride and i love it but watch at your own discretion)
american psycho (tw for rape, general misogyny)
sweeney todd
speaking from experience, this is much better live, the movie sucked out all the fun and humor that wasn’t literally written into the lyrics, so i recommend watching the original broadway cast on youtube or something
there’s also a 1936 movie which i haven’t seen so i can’t speak to its quality BUT i would recommend it on the basis of it being made before the musical was created and thus being based more directly on “the string of pearls” novel which is where the sweeney todd urban legend was originally documented
abott and costello meet [insert universal horror monster here] [spooky comedy]
little shop of horrors (original and remake) [spooky comedy]
the last man on earth (1964)
adapted from the same book i am legend (2007) was adapted from but the last man on earth stays much closer to the original book imo
c. h. u. d.
ghostbusters (1984 and 2016 versions)*
ghost ship
sick girl (tw for bugs, pregnancy horror)
misery (tw for torture)
puppet master series (tw for rape, nazism)
the haunting in connecticut
zombieland**
jurassic park series
lizzie borden took an axe
wolf creek (tw for rape)
it (1990, 2017)
i have........ some nitpicky issues about putting it on this list, because neither movie adaptation really did justice to the whole concept of “derry itself is an extension of an eldritch horror and the real scary part of the story isn’t the clown, it’s the horrible violent tragedies that have repeatedly occurred and then been dismissed throughout derry’s history, leaving the entire town in a large-scale sort of cycle of abuse” so ????????????? idk like i truly do recommend reading the book as well as seeing the movies for The Whole It Experience(TM), but i totally get that not everyone is gonna do that
the 1990 version tells more or less the complete story, but because of that it didn’t have time to include a lot of fun details
the 2017 version only tells the childhood portion of the story, which leaves it time to include fun details. i was really hoping to see more of derry’s backstory or more development on mike and stan as members of marginalized groups -> how that influences their life in derry, but we didn’t get much of that? mike’s importance to the losers (researcher, somewhat of a skeptic/hardass at times to keep the others together) was removed, his healthy family dynamic was removed (mike, richie, and possibly stan are the only characters in the book with healthy family dynamics, somewhat underscoring the concept that derry itself is trapped in a cycle of abuse), and derry’s history of racism is never touched on aside from the kids mentioning “the fire at the black spot” a couple times in passing. overall it was a fun movie and you can tell everyone making it had a blast but compared to the book it’s like. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
BASICALLY what i’m saying here is that the book is really deep wrt social issues, and while neither movie really touches on those concepts in-depth, they are still good horror movies on their own and ofc a part of american pop culture
house of wax (1953)
marnie (tw for rape, abuse and coercion in a marriage dynamic, animal/pet death, graphic depictions of psychological abuse, graphic depiction of a violent death involving a child)
cabin fever (tw for sickness horror/body function horror/unsanitary horror, occasional slurs)
mega shark vs. giant octopus
i don’t even have a real reason for listing this i just can’t believe it exists and i want the whole world to know
texas chainsaw massacre (1974), texas chainsaw massacre 2, texas chainsaw 3d
ju-on: the grudge
phantoms
the plot is pretty ehhh imo but the effects are great; rose mcgowan is gorgeous as always, peter o’toole’s character is great, and ben affleck’s character lowkey has some batman circa arkham knight vibes going on. also, liev schrieber becomes a tentacle monster. i couldn’t make this shit up if i tried y’all
vamps*
this movie. this movie
krysten ritter and alicia silverstone are a couple of vampires, sigourney weaver is their hot mess of a vampire mom, dan stevens is krysten ritter’s boyfriend, wallace shawn is van helsing but he’s basically just vizzini: vampire hunter au and it’s GOLD
it’s literally the cutest and funniest vampire media i’ve ever seen in my life as well as one of the most detailed when it comes to vampire lore i cannot recommend it enough
bram stoker’s dracula
death becomes her**
what we do in the shadows**
disturbia
frankenstein (2004 miniseries, more like a 2-part movie than a tv show)
flatliners (1990) (tw for drug use, uncensored depictions of cadaver dissection)
the cabinet of dr. caligari
the limehouse golem (tw for sexual assault and csa)
repulsion (tw for sexual assault)
the trial (1962)
*spooky comedy: a comedy movie with a spooky premise that i am categorizing with horror movies due to the genre overlap, but that lacks the intense violence, gore, etc. of a horror movie
**horror comedy: a spooky comedy that does not lower the level of violence, gore, etc. that is standard in a horror movie
thrillers
stoker (tw for incest, has a scene in which the protag’s mother verbally abuses her)
m [german film, watch with subtitles] (tw for themes of pedophilia/child molestation/child murder, but it’s worth noting that the whole point of the movie is to condemn and demonize pedophilia)
also one of if not the very first detective movies
nightcrawler (tw for rape)
the vvitch/the witch/however the fuck it’s spelled
rear window (1954)
zodiac
hannibal lecter franchise (tw for cannibalism, obviously)-- the silence of the lambs, hannibal, red dragon, manhunter
manhunter is adapted from the same book red dragon is (red dragon) except manhunter was made before anthony hopkins became The Iconic Hannibal Lecter(TM) so it focuses much more on will graham and francis dolarhyde
hannibal rising is worth watching for gaspard ulliel’s performance but the book was much better
the hannibal movie adaptation changed the ending of the hannibal book while still maintaining a really good and really compelling storyline so the book and movie are definitely both highly recommended by me
gone girl
shutter island (tw for asylum horror)
pan’s labyrinth
tiger house
the champagne murders
the plot and pacing are a little ehhh; in my opinion there was too much tension buildup between characters and not enough actual plot development. BUT, anthony perkins is in it so it’s worth watching if you love him like i do
documentaries
cropsey (documentary on child murders)
urban legends (another documentary, by the same people, talks about how real-life crime affects the american psyche and lives on as urban legends/horror tropes)

american ripper [currently ongoing tv series]

ahs s1 (tw for... literally everything)
slasher
similar basic premise as ahs, but imo ahs is v exploitative and builds the plot on violence and vice, whereas slasher builds the violence and vice on the plot
supernatural (LISTEN........ LISTEN....................... conceptually it’s the bees knees okay)
penny dreadful (tw for constant explicit sexuality, religious iconography/sacrilege, asylum horror)
