Growing up in the Wonderland palace was so boring, considering not socialising with anyone but your big sister and some of the guards.
You’re mom, Queen Bridget; also the queen of hearts did feel bad for you since you were a kid with no social life, so she bought two dogs. One Rottweiler and one german Shepard by the names of Atlas and Apollo, you and red loved them. They were basically guard dogs.
But now here you are, playing with the flour on the kitchen floor, throwing the whole entire bag onto the floor and scooping it into a bowl with the biggest smile known to any four in a half year old girl.
Your sister Red came downstairs with her girlfriend, Chloe.
Her face completely dropped when she saw the mess you made, chloe found it amusing since you managed to pour some on the dogs.
Apollo was rolling around in the white dust spread all over the kitchen floor meanwhile Atlas just sat down patiently just looking at the two older girls as if he was asking them to get him out of this mess. He was a clean dog, didn’t like getting dirty. Meanwhile Apollo threw himself into anything that had dust.
“omg, Y/N!” She exclaims, picking up the small girl covered in flour head to toe.
“Moms going to kill me! What were you even thinking!”
Y/N doesn’t seem to understand, just smiling and laughing.
“I wanted to make a cake for mama and Chloe!” You responded, the amount of happiness evident on your face made Reds frustration sooner replace.
She sighs after a while, pulling you into a hug, knowing she’ll probably have dust or flour on her clothes and face.
“Of course you did. Cmon, let’s just get this whole chaos cleaned.”
Chloe placed her hand on Reds shoulder, seeing the small smile on her lips.
“What?”
“You’re such a good sister to her.”
Just that there made Reds face flush. Her smile reappearing.
“Yeah yeah- shut up. Let’s just clean up before the maids see this and quit..”
“Yeah!” Y/N cheered, raising her arms happily.
“You’re not getting out of this so easily missy, no more sweets.”
Y/N’s smile turns into a frown, she drops her arms and looks down at the floor with slight sadness.
“aww :C”
——————
what seemed like FOREVER to you but felt like only 15 minutes for the other two girls you were all done cleaning the kitchen. And the dogs were no longer covered in flour.
Chloe sighs, wiping the bit of sweat from her forehead.
“Nothing like a bit of hard work does the trick.” She sighs.
Red laughs, looking at her girlfriend as she approaches her.
“Oh please princess, you only cleaned the flour off the dogs.”
Chloe smiles, bringing her hand up to wipe a bit of flour from Reds cheek with her thumb.
“You had something on your cheek, love.”
She chuckles pulling the blue haired girl closer.
“You have something on your lips.”
Then, their lips meet for a few seconds, butterflies flutter in Chloe’s stomach, Red felt like she was melting. Until it was cut off by the sound of a little girl.
“eww! don’t kiss! germs!!” Y/N fake gags, looking away.
The two girls laugh, pulling away.
“Alright, how about we bake a cake for your mom?” Chloe speaks, kneeling to Y/N’s height. Earning a scoff from Red for the two to ignore what she just said for Y/N’s punishment.
Y/N’s sparkle in her eyes return as she jumps into Chloe’s arms.
“Yes please!!”
Red sighs, crossing her arms.
“Oh my god you guys are so annoying.”
“Oh you love us.”
creator note: I kinda wished that Red had a younger sibling or atleast a pet because I think that would’ve been a cute thing to add :3
I love these two so much! (another reminder I’m not shipping the actors, and also this isn’t a ship edit towards Malia and Kylie) BUT OMG I LOVED WRITING THIS IT WAS SO CUTE- kinda short BUT SO CUTEE

When they got back everything seemed normal, better even. Until the mandatory curfews that suddenly started. Chloe went to Auradon Prep for a year before Red came and they time traveled, so when she heard about the curfew it pulled her in a loop; seems like things have changed in this timeline.
Their first night Red and Chloe weren't yet aware of the curfew. So while walking back slowly to their dorm, chatting about how weird everyone acted and how they were shoved out of a store the second the sun set the rustling from the tree line leading up to their campus didn't set off alarm bells yet. As the rustling grew louder Chloe pulled out her sword and urged Red to continue walking; as if she was going to leave her princess alone.
The rustling turned out to be a giant wolf that neither girl has ever seen, bloodlust in its golden eyes as it tried to attack them, only managing to injure Chloe a bit before running off, its prey too much work to kill. Red panicked as she helped Chloe the rest of the way to their dorm, the red that stained her hands and clothes looked wrong against Chloe's soft blues. But with bandages wrapped the two agreed to not tell anyone, thinking it's not worth the risk of getting into trouble and since Chloe is while now.
That next morning the bandages were taken off to replace only to find fully healed scars over the wounds much to both of their confusion, but Chloe was fine so they never mentioned if.
Chloe was not fine.
A week and a half after the incident left Chloe tossing and turning in her bed, whimpering in pain as her bones broke and reformed. Red thought that she would die when she say what was happening to Chloe. She didn't understand what was happening as she tried to wake up Chloe thinking it was a nightmare before the bones snapped.
Getting pinned down by a seven foot tall wolf that has curly dark brown hair with a few strands of blond mixed in was not on Red's bingo card, nor was her roommate turning into said werewolf. The second Chloe breathed in Red's scent she instantly stopped any aggression before becoming a complete puppy. It was adorable and when they cuddled to sleep and woke up in each other's arms Chloe didn't remember what happened and Red wasn't blushing at her naked roommate cuddling her not at all.
In three months the two found out that to keep the balance in the world it allowed the supernatural into their world. Which is how Chloe ended up as a werewolf although Red would call her more of a werepuppy.
It wasn't until some classmates cornered Red, harassing the girl that Red understood that Chloe was just being gentle with her. The two students closest to her got their heads slammed into the ground, their heads sounding like basketballs as they lay motionless with skulls cracked and blood staining the cobble beneath them. The rest of the students backed up in horror, no one has ever seen a werewolf in a public place in broad daylight, but here was one who casually killed two kids and was now staring them down snarling.
Red was just hyper fixated on the blood dripping down Chloe's clawed hands, the dripping echoing in her head before a cold nose is pressed against her cheek and brings her back to the present. The two run away from the crime scene, because it would take too much effort to explain and Chloe definitely needed to shift back.
When someone comes knocking barely twenty minutes later, barging in seconds later and finding the two in a more than compromising position. The Fairy Godmother gave the two a moment before questioning them about a werewolf that critically injured the two students, just barely lying through their teeth before being left alone.
Safe to say both Red and Chloe have to figure out how Chloe shifted in broad daylight with the full moon being weeks away. There's love, death, political corruption, and a familiar villain who's the cause of this supernatural presence.

one of my faults with the new descendants movie is that significant character development/changing dynamics seemed to ONLY happen during song. like you would start a song with a character having one opinion, and then you would finish the song and you’d have a new one
it almost feels like the movie was originally planned as a tv show but then changed to be a movie, and to save on time they just turned anything taking up too much time in a song. even tho I don’t imagine this was the case at all
the two major offenders being the conflict of red and chloe thinking they were enemies was immediately resolved it in the duration of the song fight of our lives, and in a similar sense, chloe learns about moral ambiguity only during the get your hands dirty song
love ain’t it and perfect revenge and life is sweeter are stronger songs to me because for love ain’t it, it just goes “look, here’s how the queen of hearts feels about love, and here is how red feels about her mother”, and a very brief how red and chloe feel about each other, but doesn’t immediately dive into anything and just sets up room for conflict in the rest of the story
similarly, life is sweeter is like “here are the idealogical differences between bridget and ulyana. But also: this is also here specifically contrast love ain’t it, to illustrate the stakes of red and chloe have in their mission because THIS is what they have to lose”. and then perfect revenge is like “here’s how ulyana feels about bridget: she fucking hates her”. which like. i love bridget but it's a based af song
and then there are a lot of people that are mad that the shuffle of love song was cut and only appeared as diegetic sound when bridget was showing off her little dancey dance, but actually, I see why it was cut. while it was a fun song that I enjoy and listen to, it didn’t tell us anything new about bridget's feelings
in the first 3 descendants movies the songs were more to like. To examine a character’s inner feelings as a musical SHOULD be, but like the development happened across the duration of the movie. song didn't exist solely to fastforward the plot. did i mention is like “look ben is really fucking in love with mal”. evil like me represents mal’s inner struggles (I HATE when people thought maleficent ACTUALLY appeared in auradon to personally talk to mal about her self esteem. Even as a child it was glaringly obvious that it was literally mal’s musical equivalent of “hmmm what would my mum do??”). what’s my name communicates uma’s dislike of the isle. even queen of mean demonstrates audrey’s bitterness, one kiss conveys evie’s fears about love because she’s NEVER experienced real love before, and night falls conveys the conflict between the core4 and uma’s trio WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY SOLVING IT IN THE SAME SONG unlike fight of our lives, and they spend the entire movie butting heads and learning to respect and trust one another

Yeah Chloe has an incredible support system and example of how love should be. Her family would be there in a heart beat if she cried even a little bit.
But anyone can end up in an abusive relationship let’s be real, and it’s possible that she wouldn’t want her family to see her struggles in a relationship. Pride and ego can keep someone in an unhealthy place for a really long time, and abuse doesn’t start obvious, it builds up overtime.
Red has been abused growing up and it’s statistically likely she would end up in an abusive romantic relationship.
I’ve been seeing some fics/ideas both on AO3 and on here where Chloe is in an abusive/toxic relationship and Red saves her from it. No hate to those bloggers/writers (I’ve read one on AO3 and bookmarked it immediately cuz it was so good) but it seems extremely out of character for Chloe to ever be with someone who would mistreat her.
From what we’ve seen in the movie, Chloe doesn’t hesitate to fight against someone she believes has done her wrong, and she’s clearly strong enough to fight back so there’s no way she’d let someone overpower her. Plus, her parents literally have the most perfect love story ever, she knows what pure romantic love is supposed to look like, and she would back away as soon as she realizes that it wasn’t the perfect picture her parents are.
So, I suggest, instead of making Chloe the helpless maiden, let Red be.
Red has been sheltered since the day she was born, and she has absolutely no idea what love is or how it’s given or received. Any idea of love she has is from her mother, who, evidently, manipulated her and emotionally abused her. She’s seen to want love, so it makes sense that if it came in the form of pain, she wouldn’t know how to react to that because she’s finally loved, even if it’s not ideal.
Chloe, being the charming knight she is, would swoop in and save Red from whatever misery she put herself in to just be happy for once.
And then they live happily ever after.
The end.

DESCENDANTS: The Rise of Red! (or the REAL hidden story in the movie + what’s gonna happen in the sequel THEORY!)
So we ALL watched the movie right? We ALL thought the plot sucked and the movie ended abruptly with a underwhelming climax?
WELL HERES WHY WERE WRONG!
So I did some really deep thinking, and I figured, these writers can’t be THAT stupid? The director can’t be THAT idiotic, lame, and boring? That would just embarrass Disney, not to mention all the well respected actors that are in this!
So I thought hard. I thought hard and I thought long. Like hella long. And I tallied up all the plot inconsistencies, all the weird explanations, all the very specific lines in songs, and I did it. I fixed descendants rise of red! I FIGURED IT OUT!
So!! Here it is! What TRULY happened that crowncoming night! And what going back in time actually did!
(I intentionally put a keep reading so if anyone wanted to avoid spoilers they can)
So! Now that we’re under the keep reading. Anything spoilerly can be said!
So first things first. The biggest theory everyone is saying.
ELLA DID IN FACT POISON BRIDGET!
Yes! I said it! We all thought the movie was leading to this! So it was underwhelming when it was revealed it was Uliana and her crew were the origins behind the prank.
OR WERE THEY?
We all saw that once they opened the book; they were frozen. Because they were ‘bad’ and Merlin’s security system was set into place.
And many of you came up with the giant plot hole that this would have happened REGARDLESS of whether Red and Chloe interfered.
AND YOUR RIGHT!
This sole reason, is why the group COULDNT have done it! Not only were they frozen, but they couldn’t read the recipe, and were properly sent to detention, ergo exonerating them from being at the dance! Meaning their was literally no way they could have been behind the prank!
So with them being withheld from the dance, who could it be? Who was the one person who was originally at the dance, but now no longer could be? What was the one actual change that Red and Chloe set off?
ELLA. AND THE VASE!
We all see that when the two go into Ella’s house, Chloe knocks over a Vase. Breaking it. Lady Tremaine GROUNDS Ella! Meaning that she COULD NOT go to the dance!
This DIDNT happen originally! Meaning Ella DID go to the dance in the original timeline! Which is proven when Cinderella (I’m calling Adult Ella, Cinderella) talks to The Red Queen (I’m calling Adult Bridget The Red Queen) about how the prank being pulled was wrong. She had first handed knowledge of the prank. AND she told Chloe she fell in love with Charming at the dance.
But! Since Ella is the only difference in the two timelines in regarding to the dance, this is PROOF that she was the one who actually pranked Bridget, NOT Uliana and her crew!
So here’s what I think happened!
Ella, who saw Bridget being bullied about the cupcakes, and saw Uliana take all the cupcakes. And promptly being threatened by Uliana. Decided to bake Bridget something to cheer her up. However Bridget literally has all of the cookbooks in auradon. As shown. So she snoops around and finds Merlin’s cookbook! (Because it’s also shown she’s okay with breaking the rules if it’s for a good cause. From her get our hands dirty song!) and double and, the book WOULD open for her because she is a good person. AND she was doing it for a good reason!
she flips through the book and finds some simple blase recipe that cheers Bridget up. Maybe gives her cool hair (Red hair??). Something simple but sweet.
However. While doing this, she happens to see the Monster food recipe. She doesn’t look at it for long of course. Just enough to remember it’s a thing.
BACK TO BRIDGET!
Now! I swear to whatever’s out there that the person who played Chloe said there was a queer character in Dedcendants 4. I can’t find it now but it was some tumblr or insta post. I know cause I immediately told my friend afterwards.
Anywho. I think Bridget is the queer character! We see in the movie her only friend was Ella. Not only that but she YEARNS for someone to care about enough to ask her out (in a romantic way like charming just tried to do for Ella) Ella, who again. Is Bridget’s only friend. And ergo, shows her love no one else does, IMMEDIATELY asks her to go to the dance with her! (Might have said as friends in the other timeline too. Who knows)
But! This only makes Bridget’s crush on Ella even BIGGER. And she falls in love with her! She probably thinks they might have a chance!
This is also somewhat proven by The Red Queens song ‘Love Ain’t It’
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title ; Love Ain’t It
Red : “With all the Grief you’ve experienced”
Red (Speaking of Cinderella) : So you Knew her?
The Red Queen : I saw through her. Cinderella and I were classmates in a way.
(Notice how she uses Ella’s mocking name after she has time to recover from the interaction. She said ELLA originally when she caught her off guard. Also. The line. I SAW THROUGH HER. It’s a double edged sword. Saw through her fronts. Saw the hurting girl inside. Saw through her LIES saw the mean girl behind)
Proven by the next lines
The red Queen : I spent way to much time in this place
So I had to escape
the people might smile
but their two faced, too fake.
Girl was relentlessly bullied and betrayed by someone she loved
And Ella Knows it.
Cinderella : Some people act mean at first, because their too afraid to feel
[the reverse is also true]
Cinderella : Look hon. Back in high school, a mean prank was played
And ever since that fateful day
She was never the same, it’s quite a shame.
So the Red Queen sings a whole song about how Love isn’t it. And we ALL KNOW that her only connection to love as a kid was through ELLA. meaning Bridget HAD A CRUSH on Ella. Was IN LOVE. With Ella.
So. How did Crowncoming originally happen you ask?
Here’s my theory
Ella and Bridget go to the dance. They are happy! They have fun. Bridget falls further in love with Ella. Meanwhile. Ella falls in love with Charming!
Her and Charming hit it off. And Ella starts to feel loved and appreciated for the first time in her life.
Then, Bridget performs her ‘Shuffle of Love’ dance. All the attention is on her! Even Charmings.
Ella feels robbed. She feels jealous. She feels angry that her friend is stealing the one good moment she is finally having to herself.
And so she briefly remembers the spell. And in a moment of error, she either A. Remembers the recipe already and makes the recipe. Or B. Re-Sneaks back into the office to see it. However I’m going with A because the book wouldn’t have opened again for Ella because of her bad intentions.
Whichever way. Bridget eats the baked treat. (I think it was a cupcake. Ella could have lied and said it was from the earlier batch)
And then. IT HAPPENS! Bridget is turned into an ugly terrifying monster. Everyone LAUGHS at her. Everyone makes fun of her
And Bridget, who is confused, understands only ONE person could have done this to her. She looks at someone she was in love with. And just sees Ella and Charming laughing. Laughing at her. Bonding over laughing at HER.
Bridget runs off. In tears. Broken inside. With an equally broken heart.
Maybe if Ella had immediately realized her error and run after her she would have turned out differently. But no. It is proven that Ella stayed at the dance and stayed with Charming. They wouldn’t have had the chance to fall in love if she left.
So Bridget. Spends the rest of the night terrified. Looking like a monster. And being laughed and screamed and made fun of everywhere she goes. And not only that. But her ONLY FRIEND. Her CRUSH. Someone she TRUSTED did this to her
Now THIS! THIS is something can break a person. This is something that can change their views on the world. On humanity itself. She was a kind girl. Was kind to everyone no matter how meanly they treated her. But through it all, Ella was her rock. Her friend. Her secret love. Someone who was good and kind through it all.
But she betrayed her. Tbe one nice person betrayed her. Showing that being nice doesn’t do it. Being nice does not mean good things happen. Being nice doesn’t is worthless if this is what it gets you. Everyone is two faced. And the only thing that’s real. The only thing she CAN feel. Is hurt. And pain. And fear. And so that’s what she swears to become. That’s what she swears to do. Be mean and cruel and heartless so she never has to feel all this pain ever again. So her eventual DAUGHTER never has to feel this again. It’s better to be alone and feared. Then alone and broken.
Ella probably realized the error of her ways the next day. But as she said. It was too late. Bridget was never the same.
This Explains why they had so many odd interactions. The raw feral burning chemistry between them. All the odd phrase. Why The Red Queen would be okay sending her BEST FRIEND to death. Why she would be okay killing her. And taking over auradon. To Her? Cinderella is the one who made her this way.
but also part of her still remembers. Still cares. It’s why she gave her once chance to kneel to her. (And as we’ve noted in the books and movies. She doesn’t give ANYONE else a second chance. She punishes I’m immediately and harshly)
And so! With all of this happening. Theirs gonna be some catylist in recent times. The Red Queen might be nice now. But something will have changed. Ella never went to the dance. (She clearly fell in love with charming somewhere else cause otherwise Chloe would have disappeared) but something happened when she wasn’t at the dance. Something that caused another problem. And THATS gonna be the sequel to this movie. Descendants : Rise of Red part two.
(as we’ve seen the official script for the movie is literally called Descendants : Rise of Red part one. MEANING they wrote it with the purpose of being part one to either a sequel or a threequal)
And THAT! Ladies and Gentleman, is what I think the REAL plot behind Descendants : Rise of Red is! A movie that is not idiotically not thought out at all, but really something so secretly genuis is blows your mind!
Hope you enjoyed!

Just "Friends"
Tumblr media
Clark and I are close and I mean really close. We aren't like him, Chloe, Lex, or even Lana or Pete. We were close like with no one else in the universe.
We talked about everything together, and it honestly made me feel so good to have someone like that in my life. Clark always knew what to say to make me feel better.
Today I was with Chloe and Lana. Because yes, Clark is like my other half but sometimes you just need to have a true heart-to-heart with the girls. Chloe has a crush on this new guy at our school and she wants to ask him to the school dance. She called me and Lana and had us come over to discuss how she should go about this whole asking-a-boy-out thing.
"I really wanna take this thing head on!" She exclaimed while Lana did her hair. Lana gave me a smirk as I rolled my eyes from Chloe's bed where I sat reading one of her many books that she had sitting in a pile next to her bed.
"And how exactly do you plan on taking this thing head-on exactly? Aren't you just going to go up to him in class and ask him to the dance?" Lana asked as she brushed through Chloe's short hair.
"I just want to make sure I make it obvious to him that I like him because the worst-case scenario is that we end up like Clark and (Y/N)," Chloe said as she and Lana looked over at me and set the book down after hearing my name.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked as Chloe and Lana smirked at each other as if they had now switched the conversation over to be directed towards me now.
"We see how Clark and you make eyes at each other," Lana said as I rolled my eyes. "Oh come on! You're one to talk. You and Clark are basically the two with the most chemistry in this whole freaking town," I said as I fully sat up and gave the two my full attention.
Lana seemed baffled by my accusation. "Don't look at me like that! I know Clark and you like each other. It's no big deal. Honestly. Clark and I are just friends." I don't know why but as I said those words I felt tears pooling in my eyes somehow.
I quickly wiped those away laid back down and picked back up the book. "I say tell him how you feel," Lana said as we heard Chloe's bedroom door open and in walked Clark. "Tell who how you feel?" He asked as I sat up and saw his perfect baby blues staring right back at me like he was Prince Charming himself.
Every time I would lock eyes with Clark I felt like I was looking into the eyes of a sweet little puppy that had just opened it's eyes for the first time. I know that that sounds crazy and sappy but honestly that is how Clark made me feel.
"Chloe should tell that guy in our lit class that she likes him and wants to go to the dance with him. That's all we were talking about. Nothing else," I said as Clark went over and sat down next to me on Chloe's bed.
"Well, Chloe if you like him then yeah go for it. Tell him how you feel as Lana said." "Yeah, like I said," Lana said as she looked over at me knowing that she was directing all of that towards me.
"Lana who are yuo going to the dance with?" I asked trying to change the subject. I quickly regretted that choice because I saw the way Clark's ears turned red at the mention of Lana going to a school dance potentially she would say she didn't have anyone she was going with and he would thinnk that that meant she needs him to go with.
That was the problem with Clark. He always thought Lana needed him not that she wanted him. I mean she might. I don't know entirely because all I knew was that I wanted him and could nevr have him because he doesn't want or need me in his life half as much as I'm already in it.
"Oh, I uh. I was going to go with Whitney," She said as I watched the color drain from his ears and he laid down as I had before. Lana was almost done with Chloe's hair and I was almost done with this book so I slumped back right there next to Clark on Chloe's bed.
Lana and Chloe were chit-chatting about some more nonsense from school and boys that they think would be a good match for Chloe if this one guy doesn't pan out.
Clark and I were lying back on Chloe's bed in complete silence. This was one of those moments where I found myself truly happy. The fact that Clark and I were able to lay in complete silence like that without it being the most awkward thing in the universe was amazing.
I looked at him and he was staring at the ceiling. He always looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. It worried me that he could possibly be stressing about things that he doesn't tell me. I was certain that he told me everything so when he looked like this I assumed that there was something he was keeping from me to protect me because why else would he not tell me.
But this made me begin to worry that it was something having to do with his feelings towards Lana thta made him not talk to me about them.
Eventually, Chloe and Lana headed out to the Talon to find the guy so Chloe could have a chance at asking him out before class tomorrow and that left me and Clark to leave and go find something else to do since we were just background characters to Chloe's big day today.
"We can go back to the barn and watch a movie or something at my place if you want. My mom is making pasta for dinner,"Clark said as I smiled and then followed him to his truck outside.
I've always noticed the little thing s in movies and books where the guys would open doors and be extra polite to the female characters. Especially if they liked them in any way romantically.
Clark never treated me like that in anyway at all.
The entire drive home I was so quiet. I guess I was just overthinking my whole life which I tended to do when I was alone but never in the same rom as someone else. I felt Clark's eyes on me as he pulled into his driveway.
"What?" I asked as he parked and unbuckled himself. "Are you okay? You seemed a little quiet that whole ride. Is there something wrong? You know you can tell me, (Y/N). Always." He was always so sinsiere and kind to me.
"Yeah. I'm fine I guess I was just thinking about the dance." "Oh? Is there a special someone that asked you?" I shook my head no in my response to his silly question.
"Then what were you thinking about in regards to the dance?" I smiled and he smiled back. "Don't give me that bullshit smile because I know you are covering up something. What's wrong, (Y/N)?"
"Why won't you ask me to the dance?" I just blurted it out. I don't think I meant to but I just really wanted to know the answer.
"Woah. Where's this coming from?" He asked as he then opened his truck door and got out. I unbuckled myself and followed suit. He walked towards his house where the closer we got the more we could smell the pasta dinner his mom was making.
"I just wanted to know if you didn't ask me because you maybe see me as a sister or if you didn't ask me because you genuinly hate me."
"I Don't hate you, (Y/N)," He said as he stopped right in front of his house. We were so close to the door that I'm almost 100% sure that his parents could hear us if they even happened to be in the kitchen.
"If you don't hate me then it's the first option. You see me as a sister?" "What? No! I-" "Well then what the hell Clark why won't you just tell me how you feel instead of expecting me to do all the talking it's not like I'm exactly the most-"
He kissed me.
"Do you ever just shut up?" He said quietly into my mouth. His eyes were closed and his hand was around my head holding me close to him.
"Why have you never done something like this before?" I asked as I pushed him away because I had to remind myself that I was still mad at him.
"You always made me so comfortable around you and you're right you did always the majority of the talking that I didn't feel the need to be very affectionate myself. I've always liked you but-" "But you like Lana. I know." I looked down at the ground and avoided his eyes.
He used his finger to make me look up at him. Those beautiful baby blues were staring back at me all over again and I felt like I was melting.
"I liked Lana. Yes, that's true. But when I'm alone with her nothing compares to when I'm alone with you. Being with you- I feel like I'm floating on a cloud. It is the most comfortable I have ever been in the history of my life. I always feel like I'm trying to save everyone but you don't make me feel like that. You let me just be and I love it. I love you, (Y/N)."
"Just shut the hell up and kiss me again," I demanded as he pulled me in and kissed me again on his front porch. Then as if it never happened, we went inside and he opened the door for me which was very new to me.
His mom and dad were sitting at the table smiling ear-to-ear when we walked in.
"Glad to hear you kids made up," Johnathan said as I got red in my cheeks and I looked over at Clark who's ears were red again.

I watched Heretic.
Now, bear in mind I have yet to see a number of horror movies released this year (The First Omen, Oddity, Strange Darling, etc.) but with what I have seen, this is so far my favorite horror film of 2024.
This is how you do religious horror right. This movie has no demons or possessions or anything, just humanity, faith, and doubt, and it is fantastic. It's incredible that Hugh Grant's standard affably charming Hugh Grant acting becomes absolutely terrifying when transplanted from a comedy into a horror movie.
Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East were phenomenal here, and I did not recognize Topher Grace at all. Glad to see he's still doing stuff.
Another thing I adore was that this movie treated every argument with equal weight and consideration. Sure, Reed was right about Joseph Smith using 'divine revelation' to support his polygamy and was right that we tend toward blindly following the beliefs we were raised with, but the missionaries were also right in pointing out his bullshit false equivalences and right about prayer.
("That guy has a freaking bird head!" is what I'm going to say every time I see a picture of Osiris now. And all my love to the screenwriters for the line about "You ask why Judaism constitutes .2 percent of the population to make a snappy line about missionaries without even mentioning the Holocaust?!")
Right in that final scene I remember thinking "This is a very tidy ending for an A24 film" and then there was the last shot. I don't know why I doubted.
These aren't really spoilers but I'm hiding them just in case
I never knew I needed Hugh Grant doing a terrible Jar Jar impression, or badly singing Creep.
I also was not expecting this movie to name drop Swamp Thing, good on them.

"Sure, and my name is Princess Chloe Charming. It's a pleasure to meet you, Youngmee Song. I would like to join you though. Do you happen to have a map of this island, or something that could help me with directions?" Princess Chloe Charming asked.
Tumblr media
“My name is Youngmee Song. What is your name? I still do not know why we are here, but we might as well, make the most of it, right?” Youngmee Song asked, while looking at the other person. “Wanna go find something to eat with me?” Youngmee Song asked the person that she saw. @forgottenfriendshipstarters

THIS LOVE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: kwon hoshi x fem!reader
GENRE: angst, hurt comfort, some fluff
TROPES: best friends to lovers, hoshi's w someone else, mentions and descriptions of a toxic/abusive relationship but nothing extreme or graphic.
Tumblr media
Loving Hoshi was wrong. You know this. But you gravitate toward him nevertheless like a cliche in a love story. Except this couldn't be love. Love was pure and love healed. What you felt was rotten. Morbid. Disgusting.
Still, when you see him entering the cafe that morning, your heart speeds up, your feelings like clockwork whenever you caught sight of his blonde head. His smile was ultra-sweet as always, your name on his lips like a forbidden curse. You should go to hell for your feelings.
"Hey, Hosh," you greet him back as he sits across from you, pulling his book bag of his shoulder with a heave. You're working on a project for your boss together, something that involves interviewing the owner of this cafe together and putting the notes after, also together. All of which is only worse when it's you with him because you should not be in love with him.
"I had a chance to meet the owner before you got here," you inform him, rifling through the browned pages of your notebook for a distraction away from Hoshi's glorious face, "And he said he'd be ready for us in ten."
"Perfect," Hoshi responds, pulling out his laptop along with some other writing equipment. "I love working with you, Y/N, you make things a lot easier for me."
You laugh without meeting his eyes, shifting uncomfortably. "You're being nice this morning," you comment.
Hoshi shrugs, "You're right. Just. I'm just tired of fighting all the time."
You raise a brow at his ominous comment. "I don't think we fight all that often, Hosh? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean us," he grows quieter and you already know what's coming. "It's just… I had a fight with Chloe this morning. Again." There it was. The reason why you couldn't possibly continue to harbour, let alone foster your feelings for Hoshi. He was in love with someone else, Chloe, a sharp but charming woman he'd been dating for nearly 2 years now.
They'd met in college– In fact, you'd all met in college; you, Hoshi, Chloe. A big happy friendship with its share of a love triangle, except it was always clear who Hoshi was going to end up with. Not to mention you'd never let anyone catch a whiff of your shameful feelings for him. It was almost already too late when you'd realized them: Chloe had already confessed to and asked Hoshi out. It all happened so fast, the beginning of their happy dating life and the end of your first love.
"Again?" you echo Hoshi's words. "I'm sorry, Hosh. What was it this time?"
Hoshi averts his gaze, never a good sign for you. "She got mad I was coming here with you."
You don't mask the scoff that escapes you, "But it's for work. Why is she…" You trail off, knowing the answer to your question. Let's retract your earlier statement. Hoshi and Chloe didn't have the happiest dating life, just as your feelings for Hoshi never truly died down. To be completely clear though, the latter didn't cause the former. You were delusional, sickening at worst, but you were still a honorable person.
No, their troubles were their own. Well, the troubles were mostly Chloe's if you're being completely candid. She had a way of being overprotective of Hoshi and perhaps, slightly manipulative at times.
"I know, that's what I told her," Hoshi has his head in his hands. His soft curls crushed against the strong hold of his palms. God, did his shoulders look tense today. "She just thinks I prefer hanging out with my friends over her, or that I come up with excuses to be late to our dates. A lot of the times, you just happen to be the friend I'm hanging out with, which leads me to being late."
You swallow the outrage trying to spill out of your veins. You had lost count of how many times you had this conversation with Hoshi. You'd tried to make him see what he was blind to: Chloe didn't trust him when he hadn't given her any reason to distrust him. She was trying to control his life and it all came down to her own insecurity. She'd never had friends outside of Hoshi and you in college. She kept to herself thanks to her skeptical assumptions about everyone else. It infuriated you, watching Hoshi lose the spark in his friendships and passions all because he was worried about the argument with Chloe it would inevitable lead to.
There's so much you want to say. But you can't. So instead you shut up, ending the conversation with Hoshi abruptly. You feel him stare at the top of your head as you check the time. "It's time. We should go find the owner."
The interview goes swimmingly. The owner is a sweet man named Seokmin and has a humor almsot greater than his heart. You lose all sense of time, wrapped up in a more than natural conversation between the three of you.
"Well, I think that's all the questions we had for you. Thanks for your time, Seokmin."
Seokmin grins back at you, "Of course! Feel free to come by and ring for me anytime. Both of you. It was lovely meeting you."
You stand up with Hoshi following suit and as you gather your stuff, you look at Seokmin's retreating back. "He's nice. I feel like he'd hit it off with our friend group."
Hoshi nods thought his enthusiasm is amiss, looking down at his bag the whole time.
"You good?"
He doesn't say anything for a second and you start to wonder if he didn't hear you.
And then, "I didn't think you were so easy."
The comment is so out of the blue it has you speechless for a full minute. "...Excuse me?"
Hoshi's eyes widen as he hears his own words, "Sorry, that was rude. I just mean, I didn't think you'd mix professional life with personal." You stare Hoshi down, trying to figure out what the fuck he was getting at. "I mean about the owner."
"Hoshi, I suggested he'd be a good friend," you snap, "I don't recall expressing my desire to bone him right here in full daylight for everyone to see." Hoshi flushes at your crude statement and he stumbles over his words.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he rushes to cover, "I didn't think before I spoke. And I didn't mean it. I don't know, I think I'm just in a weird mood."
"Might be all the fighting with Chloe," you comment flatly, chest feeling heavy.
"Are you mad?" his tone is inflated with guilt and you have to dig your nails into your palm to keep from looking up at—and undoubtedly giving in to—Hoshi's face. "Listen, I'm really sorry, I shouldn't have taken it out on you like that. I think I just got jealous."
That's one way to get you to look up. "Jealous?" your breath catches, knowing there's any explanation other than the one your mind immediately jumps to.
"Yeah, just the way you got along so well with him back there," he admits, "It reminded me of us in college. How we were always laughing and joking. Before I got all moody and shit."
You laugh weakly, "Right. Before everything."
"Anyway, let me make it up to you?" he pleads, his hand finding yours in the carefree way that had both intrigued and eventually trapped you into Hoshi's charms. "Dinner?"
You know the right answer to his question, you know because there's a storm inside of you and it's made of nothing good: shame, guilt, self-loathing. You hate yourself around Hoshi. You should stay away for your own sake, to find something better.
"Sure, Hosh," you smile, "I'd love dinner."
—
Dinner with Hoshi is a bad idea for the myriad of reasons already listed and hinted at above. But perhaps, the worst one of them all is how much of a lightweight Hoshi is. His declarations of his love for beer be damned, once he was three glasses in, he was already too tipsy to tell his right from his left. And at five glasses, he's lost all control over his inhibitions, which is just a nicer way to say that he gets touchy.
It didn't help that you'd chosen bar seats that evening. You'd thought avoiding sitting across from him and forcing yourself to look at his face all evening would limit your imagination. But this is worse: Hoshi's arm is slotted right against you the entire evening because the man has a distorted understanding of personal space to begin with. Fifth beer later, he's pulling your bar stool closer and spinning you to face him.
"Hosh, you're drunk," you mutter, ignoring the way your voice gives away your nerves, "Let's get you home—"
Hoshi catches the hand you reach toward your phone, pulling it into his lap. "No! No, no, no. I don't go home. Don't wanna."
His cheeks are flushed as he begs you not to send him home and you smile wistfully, wondering how many times you'd seen this sight before.
"Hosh, you have to go home," you tell him, speaking loud and clear. You place your free hand atop his, brushing his knuckles gently. "You're gonna want to be in bed soon, right?"
Hoshi shakes his head, eyes closing despite what he says, "Not sleepy. 'M not sleepy. Not sleepy."
You chuckle at his antics, rushing to place your forearm on the counter as his head swings dangerously low. "Geez, Hosh, you need to be careful." You pull your hand out of his grip to rest his head on your arm carefully. "You're gonna hurt yourself."
He mumbles something but it's too incoherent for you to hear. So you shift closer, running a finger through his bangs to move them out of his eyes. "What'd you say, buddy?"
His voice is muffled with drowsiness but you barely make out a name. Your heart sinks. Of course, what the fuck else had you expected? "You wanna see Chloe?" you call out, hoping if you voiced the desire out loud he'd finally deny it.
What you don't expect is for him to actually deny it. "No, no, no," his voice is small and your heart lurches when you make out tears forming in his eyes.
"Wait, Hosh, are you crying?" you pull his head off your arm, "Hey, hey, look at me. What's wrong?"
He blinks, unshed tears dissolving as he opens them wider. "Oh. It's you. Y/N." You're trying to decipher the mixed emotions in his tone—relief, gladness, something more—when he's pulling you infinitely closer. Closer until you crash into his chest, feeling his hot breath hit your bare back.
"Hosh– Hoshi, you're—"
"You're always so gentle with me," Hoshi mumbles, his hand finding your scalp with a thud against your skull. You want to pull away, to shake sense into him but this feels so nice and it feels honest, to feel Hoshi's voice reverbrating through your organs like this.
"Of course I am," you mutter back, knowing you shouldn't be indulging him, "You're a softie. A sweet boy. You deserve to be treated carefully." You felt your voice shake with the sincerity of the emotions that rush through you. You'd kept this side of you locked away for so long, it physically hurt to let anyone see it, let alone Hoshi of all people.
"Hmm, you really think that?" Hoshi's voice is dampened with doubt, "You think I deserve care?"
"Okay, this is getting me worried," you pull away with a start, grabbing a hold of Hoshi's face to force him to look into your eyes. "What's wrong with you? Why are you saying these stupid things?" Hoshi's cheeks are warm against your cold palms but you try not to think about it. Just like how you try not to think about the way his gaze lingers over you, taking you in like he'd never before. Raking your features like he was just a guy admiring a girl.
"Chloe doesn't love me anymore."
Hoshi's statement snaps you out of your selfish dream like a slap. "What?"
"She… doesn't like me that much anymore. I think. She's always annoyed. Mad. Angry."
"Hosh," you groan, thumbing at his tears as they start to spill, "It pains me to see you like this."
"Like– Like what?"
"Like this. She's hurting you, Hosh," you say, "and you're letting her."
"How'd you know? I hid it so well though," his voice breaks and so do you, eyes watering and overflowing almost instantly. "Well, some things you can't hide from me, idiot. I'm your best friend. I know everything about you."
"Really?" His tears have ceased and you sigh, letting go of his face to wipe your own salty mess. "Can I just stay at your place tonight? I don't feel like going home just to fight. I want to be with you. It's easier."
His words rip through you and he doesn't even know it. It gladdens you that you're a safe place for him but it absolutely kills you that you're just that: a place to run away from the world. It wasn't so bad but it didn't compare to be his first choice, which is what he'd always been for you.
"Of course, Hosh. C'mon, I'll take you to mine."
—
You sense that something's different the next morning. You know it was partially a bad call on your part to let Hoshi stay over at your place, what with Chloe's already unreasonably convinced misconceptions of his relationship with you. But it was also right: as Hoshi's friend, you don't think you could've let him go home like that. Sobbing, begging to stay.
So you don't expect the cold shoulder Hoshi gives you that morning, strolling into your kitchen without a single smile your way. You're about to call out the breakfast spread you prepared to help nurse both your hangovers but before you can open your mouth, Hoshi snatches his phone off the counter.
He looks panicked as he turns it on. You can hear the notification go ham and his frustrated groans as he rapidly types something into a textbox.
"Hoshi, is everything—"
"Fuck!" The outburst surprises you and you jump away a little. "Fuck, fuck. Motherfucker."
"So I'm guessing you're…not okay?"
"No, Y/N!" You didn't think it was possible for Hoshi to be angry but wow, the look he trains on you in that moment has you chilled. "I'm fucked, Y/N. I never told Chloe I was getting dinner with you and then I— I blacked out and forgot to let her know. And then, I slept over here, at your place without letting her know. I think it's pretty fucking clear how not okay I am, Y/N."
You're taken aback at the way he says your name– like you were somehow at fault for this. "Oh, okay, so I'm the bad guy right now?"
Hoshi has the audacity to roll his eyes, "God, you know that's not what I meant."
"Okay, well, whenever you're done just using my services as a friend and then blaming me for being a friend, I can let you out of my apartment because it sounds like I held you against your will."
"Y/N," Hoshi says. "I'm sorry." He sounds defeated. His phone is still blowing up. You know the last thing he needs is yet another argument but you can't help it. You dislike confrontation but it feels like it's high time you protected yourself for once.
"Do you wanna talk about last night?" you ask, hand on your hip as you glare at him.
"Last night?" he sounds hesitant, definitely not remembering much, "Did I do something?"
"Hoshi, you begged me to not send you home. You said Chloe didn't love you anymore. You said that you doubted that you deserved care. You, finally, for once, admitted that she's hurting you, Hoshi—"
"Y/N, not this again—"
"No, Hoshi. I need you to listen to me. I'm have it up to here standing by your side while you let Chloe treat you like shit! You–! You're scared to go home, Hoshi, do you even realize what that means?"
"I know it sounds bad but all couples have their rough patches. And Chloe and I will–"
"You've been in this rough patch for over a year, Hoshi, give me a fucking break– Or better yet, give yourself a fucking break."
"What did you say?" Hoshi's red eyes widen at your outburst."
"I said you should break up with her, Hoshi," you deadpan, a challenge in your eyes.
"Y/N, that is just crossing the line– You can't—"
"Why? I'm your friend, Hoshi, and I'm sick of watching this bullshit happen over and over again," your voice breaks, "You deserve so much better."
Hoshi walks away from the kitchen, as if unable to stomach hearing your words without flinching. You follow him, determined to see this through. "Hoshi, you–"
"You can't do this, Y/N. You know I love her–"
"You can love other people, Hoshi, she's not the only woman in the world you know. She's definitely not the first to love you."
"What?" Hoshi slowly turns to face you, sensing there was something more to your statement.
You take a deep breath and decide to bite the bullet. Go big or go home, right?
"She wasn't even the first one to love you, you know? I loved you first. She just beat me to the asking you out part, and I guess that's the real important step, no?"
Hoshi freezes, eyes going blank at your confession. Your confession. God, how truly fucked you are to have confessed your feelings for your best friend who was dating someone else. The someone else, not to mention, who was your friend, too.
"Well, I didn't mean to say all that out loud," you cough, looking away from Hoshi, "It's wrong, I know, for me to love you. But the heart wants what it wants and whatnot. And more than anything, I want you to be happy, Hoshi. And she doesn't make you happy. I'd even say she's making you miserable."
You cut your monologue short when Hoshi continues to be frozen in his shock. "Well, who am I to give you any advice, right? It's up to you. Do what the fuck you want. Don't let me stand in the way–"
Hoshi's lips are on yours. You don't even remember blinking between one moment and this one but this is it: he's kissing you. He's holding you like a lover, fingers splayed along the column of your neck as he keeps you close to him. He steals your breath and leaves you with the taste of peppermint toothpaste. You gasp when you pull away.
"Hoshi–" He doesn't let you talk though, his lips are busy devouring you. Your jaw, your pulsing neck, your collarbones. You feel Hoshi like you've always wanted to. His lips leave a wet trail of desire and your head is too clouded with the pleasure of getting something you'd even shuddered to dream of to think straight. It's only when your hands find their way into his hair— God, his hair, it was as silky as it looked— when his phone rings like a cry in the other room and you both spring apart. You both pant, looking around like you'd been caught red-handed.
"Hoshi," you start, reeling with the meaning—and the meaninglessness—of this, of everything, but he doesn't look at you. He leaves, rushing to his phone and you let yourself hope that he'd come back only to hear him pick up, Chloe's name on his lips like a prayer.
Fucking great.
—
You don't see Hoshi for a week after that. Sorry, let's rephrase that: you don't meet Hoshi all week after. You see Hoshi everywhere because that's how little restraint you've left after the undoing known as his kiss. You have a soul-rotting combination of nightmares about Chloe killing and harvesting your heart in a variety of ways and wet dreams where Hoshi never stops kissing you and his trail of kisses only grows greater and greater—
Needless to say, you're a mess. You don't wish to think about it and reaching out to Hoshi is out of the question. He texts you on Thursday, asking you if you have time to meet on Friday for a work thing and you have the grace to left him on read. You text your boss to let him know you'd be taking the last day of the week to work from home.
please yn can we talk?
i am so sorry about everything.
can we please talk?
i understand that you might not want to but please
im doing a dinner party this saturday for friends if youre avoiding seeing me alone
You close your eyes. The texts haunt you on your phone, the little time tag counting how long you'd been agonizing over his words. 12m, 37m, 58m. Finally, you decide to get over yourself and text back.
sure hoshi i'll be there
—
You don't know what you expect to get out of the dinner at Hoshi's place but the last of it is Chloe greeting you when you ring the bell. You greet her, swallowing against her dry acknowledgement of your existence and you truly contemplate turning on your heels to leave. But—who didn't see it coming—Hoshi stops you, his voice calling your name steeling your nerves.
You step in, thankful there are a handful of your friends scattered around the room, nursing drinks in little glasses. You're about to make a beeline for Yuji when Hoshi intercepts you, hand on your arm. You stare at him and then his hand. He takes his hand off, cheeks reddening at your demeanor.
"Hey, thanks for coming."
"Right," you mumble. "I'm gonna go catch up with Yuji if you don't mind–"
"Y/N, listen, I know I–" Hoshi stops himself, glancing over his shoulder and continuing when he spots Chloe across the room, "I know I fucked up but I promise it'll never happen again. I'm so incredibly sorry. I'll make it up to you, I promise–" Hoshi's in the middle of digging himself into a hole when you hear a vaguely familiar voice calling out.
It startles you when you realize who it is.
"Seokmin?" you ask, spotting the cafe-owner making his way to you. He grins brightly, "Hey, it's me! Hoshi was nice enough to invite me over tonight! Said you'd be here so I should definitely make time."
"Oh, really?" you're looking at Hoshi, heart impossibly strained against your chest. You couldn't believe the audacity. "Um, actually, I think I have to head out." You pull out your phone as a lame excuse. To be fair, you hardly cared at this point.
"Y/N, let me explain and–"
"Sorry, Hoshi. I don't think I have time tonight. See you around some other time, 'kay?"
You take off to the door, forcing your tears back with a firm cough. You can hear the clamor behind you as Hoshi rushes after you, fingers brushing against your arm in an attempt to halt your movements. You shove him away and for once, you run away from Hoshi.
You'd made it down the stairs and a few steps on the pavement outside his house when you hear his footsteps slapping against the stairs. Your name. A trail of pleas. You can barely hear it.
He catches up, Hoshi always does, his arm seizing yours in an iron grip. Idiot man.
"Hoshi, if you don't let go of me right this fucking second. I'm going to throw myself at incoming traffic."
"Y/N, don't go," his voice is strained and for once, you don't analyze the emotions that make it so.
You turn around to scream at him instead. "Why don't you fuck off, Hoshi?"
"Please," his lip quivers, "I don't want to lose you, I–"
"I think it was a little too late when you kissed me—right after I confessed to you—and then proceeded to try and set me up with the same guy you were jealous I hit it off with— Wow, when I say it out loud, you really do sound like a maniac. Honestly, you know what, I was wrong! You and Chloe are made for each other!"
"Don't say that, Y/N, please, I wasn't thinking straight."
"You're right. You weren't. You kissed me, you acted shocked that I love you, and you still asked me to come over knowing I could never fucking say no– No, I couldn't, not to you, Hoshi. Why'd you do this to me? How could you be so fucking cruel?"
"I'm sick, Y/N, you're right," Hoshi's crying now and you match his shining tears with your own unshed ones. "I'm evil. I'm– I'm in love with you, too."
"What the fuck did you just say?"
The words echo, but they don't come from you. "Chloe," you breathe, watching as she closes in on the two of you. "Hey, we're just—"
But she's not looking at you. Her eyes are fixed on Hoshi, daring him to repeat himself, "What did just say?"
Hoshi's gaze falls and his shoulder slump. You move uneasily, "Listen, let's just–"
"I'm not talking to you!" Chloe screams, but she directs it toward Hoshi and the man, you swear you see him flinch. Something like a chill settles into your veins as a possibility begins to creep in on you… Surely not?
"You," Chloe continues, stepping closer until she was a breath's distance from Hoshi, "What did you say."
"Chloe, I think we should go inside–" You make the mistake of reaching for her shoulder. She's seething and slaps your hand away, stinging your palm and you stare at her in confusion. Chloe, however estranged you'd grown over the years, this wasn't like her. She had her moments of rage but she'd never been aggresive like this. Physical.
Your eyes land on Hoshi and he's already looking at you, unspoken concern shining back. The possibility solidifies into realization.
"I was just telling Hoshi how much I'm worried–" Hoshi tries to cut you off in a hushed tone but you continue, "And how much I think he should break up with you."
Chloe's finally looking at you and you smile at the fire in her gaze. "Dear God, you're so much worse than I thought," you tell her and then turn to Hoshi. "I told you she was insane but this–? Hoshi, let me ask you something." You step closer to him and feel his breath hitch at your question, "Does she get physical with you?"
"Who the fuck do you think you are–"
"I'm not talking to you!" You echo her earlier words, a hand trained on Hoshi's elbow protectively. "Hoshi, please, I need you to be honest with him. Did she ever–?"
Hoshi's eyes are unreadable. They meet yours hesitantly before travelling away and to Chloe. You stop him, "Hoshi. Look at me. Please."
"It happened once but it wasn't that bad and–"
"Okay, that's all I needed. We're getting you out of there," you grab Hoshi's hand, tugging him away from Chloe and toward your car. "I hope you're not attached to any of your stuff because we're–"
"Hoshi! Kwon Hoshi! Stop, right there!"
Chloe's voice is thin with how high-pitched it's gotten and your mind reels with this newfound understanding. She wasn't just a manipulative bitch, she was also abusive. God, what exactly had Hoshi tolerated? He'd said it happened once but the fact that it even got to the point–
"Y/N, we– are you sure?" Hoshi's question barely cuts through the noise in your head. You're already in your car by the time he finds his voice.
"Did she hit you, Hoshi?'
"She didn't exactly hit– It was more like she threw something at me–"
"Threw what?"
"It's not that important and I don't really care–"
"What did she throw at you, Hoshi?" you ask him again, quieter this time. "Can you tell me? You don't have to. I'm still getting you out of here."
"It was just a glass. She got mad– I don't even remember what exactly happened but one minute I was making her a drink and the next, she—It didn't even hit me so it–"
"Hoshi, I'm so sorry," you breathe, "You don't deserve that– You could've been really hurt, you know? I don't care that it was a glass and it didn't hit you. The fact that she felt the need to physically hurt you— God, Hoshi, do you see? She is a physical threat to you."
"I'm– I don't know what to think, Y/N," Hoshi sighs, settling into the passenger seat. "It wasn't even that what got to me. I know she doesn't actually want me dead. It's when she talks about you—"
"Me?"
"Yes. I don't know when it all went downhill, but she began to speak really badly of you. Just the meanest things. Completely untrue things. I didn't like it and I tried to get her to stop. I told her I couldn't stand to hear it and once, I even told her I'd break up with her if she kept it up– That's when it really got out of hand."
"I'm sorry, Hoshi, I had no idea."
"Well, it's not your fault. You were nothing but a good friend to me. You never even let me onto your feelings."
You sigh, "Right. Those."
"I wish you had," he breathes out, head lolling over to look at you, "I know it's selfish of me, but I wish I'd known sooner. I would've come to my senses."
"How come?" you ask, heart in your throat, his confession from earlier looping in your mind.
"Well, because you weren't the only one with the wrong kind of feelings. I developed my own share of feelings for you. Even though I was dating Chloe. It's pretty fucked up, huh?"
You focus on keeping your breath steady. Chloe's figure was still visible in the night. You couldn't tell what she was doing but honestly, after all you'd found out, she could really just go to hell for all you cared.
"I don't know if it is fucked up," you shrug. "With how she treated you and all."
"I guess. I think that's why I held on longer though, knowing it was wrong to love you," he continues, "I thought if I faced my feelings, I'd lose Chloe and you in one fell sweep. I was too big of an idiot to see that I'd lost Chloe a long time ago. And I would've lost you too if you hadn't told me how you felt."
"You're one selfish bastard," you murmur, looking at his shadowed face. "You couldn't just break up with her when she got crazy? Why'd you let her keep hurting you? Why'd you keep hurting me?"
"Once again, idiot things. It was easier being where I was, however unpleasant that inertia was. I wanted to keep pretending things were normal with us."
You sigh again. "Idiot. I'm taking you home."
—
Things are hard for a while after that.
As much as you want to just sit back and enjoy loving Hoshi openly, you resist.
He faces his broken relationship with Chloe first, going back to his shared home with her to break things off in person, for once and for all. You don't ask him how it went, simply offer him a hug when he comes back later that night, eyes rimmed with red.
You face your own guilt over Hoshi's broken relationship and then cry a little more because you realize what your friends, what other people must think of you. The kinds of words they'd use.
"You know it's not your fault, right?" Hoshi reminds you one night when he's over. He's over a lot lately.
"Which part?" you call back with a chuckle. He shifts beside you, hitting pause on the movie playing to face you.
"I'm serious, Y/N. Me and Chloe. Or me and you now."
"Yeah, maybe slightly not my fault. But that's not how it looks, you know?" you heave a sigh, tilting your head away from him so he doesn't have to see your downcast eyes. "I'm still a homewrecker."
"Dude, look at me, what the fuck are you saying?" Hoshi forces you closer to him. "If anything, it should be me that's ridiculed. Not only did I stay in a toxic relationship despite all the red flags, I led you on. Heck, I kissed you when I was officially still dating her. Plus, it's not homewrecking when it's barely a home you're wrecking."
"That's not fair to you, Hoshi. I know I blamed you earlier but it's not the easiest thing to walk out of an abusive–" You cut yourself off, containing a laugh at his insistence. He looks troubled by your behavior, "Y/N. I'm serious. I can't have this."
"What?"
"I want to be with you for real, Y/N. I want to take you out without it feeling wrong. It's not wrong. Okay?"
You close your eyes, letting his words sink into your veins. You feel his palms curling around your face and you smile against his touch. "I think it's gonna take me a bit before I'm not uneasy about it."
"That's fine," you open your eyes to find a loving grin on his face, "I'll wait." His love was pure and bright, and for once, you let that light bloom within yourself.

It's brain splurge time once again...! What am I presenting today you may ask?
A glassheart, modern-day celebrity/performer AU!
TW: self-destructive habits.
(This AU is a continuation of my previous big brain splurge post, so I'll be making small references to it at the start, but I'll try my best to write this post in a way so it can be read as a standalone :)) )
Tumblr media
Okay, here we go!
So I imagine that Red would have LOVED performing from the earliest moments of her life. Music, dance, acting, modelling; it flows through her veins and has always been her calling. And who can even be shocked by that fact? She's the only child of two of Auradon's most iconic stars in the 80s: her mother being 'The Queen of Hearts', a pop princess with a golden public imagine, and her father being the heart-throb bassist of a punk band ('Uliana's Crew'), James Hook.
It's only natural that the daughter of these two would follow in their footsteps, especially knowing her mother runs one of the most successful music labels in Auradon: 'Wonderland Records'. However, every time Red mentions she wants to start performing, she's told no (and on occasion actively discouraged from following her parents career path). Because 'she needs to prioritise growing up away from flashing cameras' and because 'the life of a performer can be demanding, it's best she focuses on school'. Frustrated, Red does end up getting a normal childhood (barring the pretty strict rules she's living under as even though she hasn't made a name for herself, yet, paparazzi still like to have a field day following her life because of who her parents are), and she's (im)patiently waiting for the day she turns 18 to finally start her career as a performer.
But we all know what Red is like, and when she thinks of an opportunity to get what she wants, she's going to take it. So, she starts anonymously posting her music on social media at the age of 14 under the username 'rebel riot', and she goes viral. People love what she's got, and Red is soaring, because this is proof enough that she can make it. So for the next 4 years, she carries on growing her platform, posting videos (whilst hiding her face with an iconic heart mask and talking with a slightly morphed accent/pitch) and interacting with her growing fanbase. Throughout this entire time, she has always had to reject invitations to perform, but on her 18th birthday she can finally take control. So when she's emailed an invite for 'Rebel Riot' to perform at a charity event, she takes it.
And that's how her official, big debut goes. She's the last to perform from all the artists at the charity concert (which include her own parents, who on occasion take a step out of retirement to perform for charitable causes), and after giving her performance her all, she takes a deep breath: flipping down the hood of her outfit and letting her hair fall down, talking in her normal voice (trying not to note down the shocked looks of Bridget and Hook as they realise who she is) as she properly introduces herself as Red Hearts, whilst theatrically throwing off her mask.
The crowd goes wild. And Red is signed up to a music label that same night, choosing to carry on performing under her stage name.
Now... Onto Chloe's path to stardom!
Chloe grew up not wanting to be in the spot light (to the relief of her mother, a popular 80s riot grrrl, 'Cinderella'). Instead, she dabbled in multiple interests, and whilst she did have fun in her music lessons, she ended up figuring out how much she loved academics. So, she grew up happy and safely tucked away in a countryside estate (meaning she is quite sheltered, but that's something Ella and Charming were willing to deal with so long as she got a normal childhood). Chloe eventually figured out she wanted to become a historian, and started her journey towards that goal - but things didn't quite go to plan. Because the world of academics can be tiring and toxic at times, so once graduating with her diploma at 21, she takes a year out before thinking of applying to masters programs. To deal with her burnout she starts making music.
And she loves it. There's a spark there that wasn't present in childhood, and soon enough Chloe's writing songs and strumming on her guitar. But it's only a small passion so far, so she enters her masters program still set on becoming an academic, but to keep her spirits high she starts posting song covers and some original works on social media.
The next thing she knows she's got a loyal following and finding that maybe, music is something she wants to take more seriously. So she starts playing at a few small indie festivals, and she loves it. So in spite of her parents worried protests, Chloe drops out of her masters program and signs up to a music label, and she finds a gradually growing success over the next few years.
Now, a key plot point: Chloe and Red are signed up to the same music label ('Atlantis City Music Group' - ACMG for short).
There's excitement surrounding the artists ACMG keep signing on, and whilst there's success with touring each of the artists separately, the label decides they want to do something big to appreciate all their stars. So, they announce a world tour with all their singers/bands participating: going from place to place over 3 months of summer in order to host music festivals.
This is how Chloe and Red will meet... And the meeting doesn't go well.
They've been assigned to share a stage for most of the up and coming festivals, and as ACMG is funding it all, they're in the same accomodation/transport/rehearsal spaces/dining areas/etc.
They're still in the starting leg of the tour, and so as stages and stands are being set up in the opening festival of the tour, Chloe and Red are at their shared stage. Chloe's heading on stage for her rehearsal time, and Red is going off. And it's an understatement to say Red is in a bad mood that day; she's dealing with a few overeager fans/borderline stalkers (which she refuses to tell anyone about because she doesn't want people fussing over her, especially her mother) and her trusted friend and backup musician (Maddox) has his flight delayed, meaning she'll start her first performance of the tour solo.
So when Chloe tries to greet her, she's brushed off passive-aggressively. And, ouch. That stings, because Chloe is a fan of Red's work - and has been following Rebel Riot since her early stages of being an anonymous singer online. But whilst it stings, they're both 23 years old and shouldn't be immature enough to hold petty grudges. Chloe can handle this (she's going to be thinking about that one interaction at 2am for at least a month), and decides to just keep pushing forward. First impressions can be deceiving after all.
But as time passes, travelling occurs, and performances go on. And Chloe gets a second impression of Red. And a third. And a fourth. And a fifth.
She doesn't need to wait to give a sixth chance to know she absolutely despises Red. Because Red is loud, impulsive, ignorant of others time, sarcastic, quick to frustrate, and a flirt.
And Chloe knows for a fact that Red doesn't like her one bit either.
In Red's point of view, Chloe is up tight, has an annoying need to placate others, sugar coats things way too much, and is a plain bore.
Because here Red is, forcing herself to stick to the trademark personality of Rebel Riot for the entire summer, whilst Chloe is getting huffy about when Red decides to extend her performance/rehearsal times by just a little bit so she can be perfect for her fans. She's here to sell a performance (something that will leave viewers reeling. Red's been one of the best in the game for years and she'd soon rather drive into a ditch than have the quality of her work decline) and live life to the wildest, and Red will be damned if she'll let some random girls judgement get in her way.
So, they carry on travelling and performing at festivals. They give off snippy remarks to each other, and try to one up each other in performance quality. Red will roll her eyes when Chloe comments about being tired at the end of the day (they all are, it's what they signed up for.), and Chloe will scoff whenever she hears about another person Red's left lovesick and 'heart broken'.
People stay clear of the bickering between the two. Because they have better things to do with their life. And also because there's a growing tension that everyone can feel building up (though Red and Chloe remain ignorant to it) and they don't want to be caught in the cross-fire.
...Then eventually, the worst happens: Red and Chloe are alone together.
It's a small, private jet with just the two of them as they travel to the European leg of the summer tour. There's stony silence. There's poorly hidden glances. There's teasing once said glances are called out. Then there's arguing.
They're in each others face, and it's like electricity is running through their veins with each spiteful word tumbling out. Red can feel Chloe's breath tickle her cheek with how close they are. Chloe's eyes are darting down to Red's lips (a habit she picked up weeks ago). And next thing you know both are silently praying that the flight deck is sound-proofed as they meet in the middle for a bruising kiss.
Once the flight lands, they're both just about presentable for cameras, murmuring excuses to go their separate ways as soon as possible.
They were a one time thing, a moment of weakness. They'll be able to go the next 2 months being perfectly professional. They don't care about what the other does. They don't think about each other at all.
All of the above doesn't hold true. Not in the slightest.
Soon enough, Chloe and Red find out the best way to maintain peace in their workplace and stop being a headache is to just carry on leaving each other breathless - It's a burning summer fling. Something superficial. Where Chloe has to painstakingly shrug on a denim jacket in the July heat to cover the scratch marks Red left behind on her back. Where Red has to aggressively rub away Chloe's tinted gloss off of her stomach before running onto stage. Where they both pull each other into hidden corners/rooms after getting jealous way too easily.
It's casual fun with a time limit.
But it feels a lot less casual the more things go on. Because when it's just the two of them, Red finally drops her trademark Rebel Riot personality and lets Chloe in to know her properly. And they start getting on (really really well). Red learns of Chloe's love for history and will listen to her rants for hours and hours. Chloe learns of Red's adoration for art, praising her sketchbooks contents.
And of course, when they learn the big things about each other, they're bound to start learning about the little things. Red's mind is a wealth of information about Chloe's little quirks and likes (and vice versa). Without knowing it, they're with each other more often than not on this tour (I'm thinking: late night drives on countryside roads singing along to the radio with the windows rolled down, stealing each others wardrobes, baking together, sneaking around in festivals when they're not on stage, having a constant back and forth dynamic on social media posts).
But the turning point for both of them, the moment when they realised that they were in danger, is when they start writing songs about each other. And, fucking hell. They write a lot of songs. There's piles of papers with lyrics about the other girl, which they keep private. Because in no way would they would ever want to share this.
So they carry on ignoring what is obviously going on. But cracks start showing in their friendship.
The jealousy gets worse (especially on Red's side, knowing Chloe tends to be oblivious of how charming she actually is). The need to be around each other is ever growing, deeming their clandestine meetings as insufficient to satiate their urge to be in each others presence (meaning they start hanging out publicly).
And then, there's a final thing that starts causing problems: Red's destructive habits. Because after all this time as Rebel Riot, Red is doing her damn best to keep up with the massive reputation she's created whilst she carries on improving her performance/impressing anyone. And this quest of hers is destroying her as she's taking it at a pace that is way too fast/idealistic to be healthy, but she can't help herself. She needs to be the best. She needs to prove to everyone that she's not weak. She needs to put on a front to show her parents that they were wrong for worrying about her starting her stardom young.
And at first it's 'small' things that Red is having issues with - she starts with skipping meals and sleep in order to practice/improve. But then that spirals and spirals.
Chloe doesn't realise Red's destructive habits until she's driving to a rehearsal studio, only to find out that Red had passed out when practicing a new dance formation earlier in the day. So obviously Chloe does the only logical thing: driving like a madwoman back to their hotel after she learns Red's been sent back to rest for the day. Chloe enters Red hotel room with her spare key (which somehow Red had acquired and decided to give to her) to find a startled Red.
Chloe goes on a miniature rant about how she'd like to know if something happened and how Red should really take care of herself. Because if she needs to start bringing Red breakfast everyday she goddamn will, and-
Chloe pauses at the sight of Red: sat on the hotel bed, straight out of a shower with a bathrobe on, a perplexed expression as if she wasn't expecting Chloe to be concerned for her well-being. But the thing that's stolen Chloe's attention? The mottled bruises all over Red's entire body. Bruises that Red had been hiding with mountains of expensive concealer.
After evading Red's typical responses to change the topic, it's revealed how badly Red's been pushing herself to perfect her performances. That her collapsing today was something mild in Red's mind.
With enough gentle questioning, Chloe gets enough of an idea of Red's state of mind and is the one to suggest that Red should pull out of the rest of the tour to take some time to heal/get help.
Red reacts very badly to this. Like very badly.
'Because she's perfectly fine and doesn't need fixing. Chloe just worries too much - and why should she care so much anyway? They're not that type of close to each other, its unnecessary and suffocating. Red's fine with committing to the the demands of being Rebel Riot as that's what makes her interesting enough for people to remain fans.'
Chloe is obviously furious Red is trying to push her away. And she's even more annoyed that Red can't see that she doesn't need to stick to the Rebel Riot persona, because Red Hearts is just as, if not more, likeable. There's no logical reason to why Red can't give up something that's causing her harm (and Chloe feels like she's being punched in the gut seeing the other girl like this).
They argue. And it's not like their previous conflicts. It's vicious and they're both saying things that they don't actually mean in the heat of the moment. And the next thing they know, what they have is over.
An hour after she entered, Chloe storms out of Red's hotel room. Both of the girls experiencing heartache. It's messy, and they're both back to how they were when they first met each other.
In fact, they're worse than they were before. Because, you guessed it! When there's anguish, more songs are being written. And this time, there's no lyrics about falling in love, instead there's quotes of what each other has said to the other, there's double meanings in the lyrics, there's rage.
And neither seem to quit it, because soon enough they decide to start playing some of these unreleased songs at the end of their set. And then there's glares being shot at each other from across the stage. There's arguing. And oh god, history repeats itself, because they're once again back together (in secret, of course). They can't seem to stay away from each other.
This time though, they are swearing to themselves that they're going to stay out of each others business. They'll only think about each other when they're with each other.
(They're the worst liars ever, because those self-imposed rules don't last more than 24 hours).
But still, Chloe and Red are in an odd place. More than friends, and less than partners. Red will have a reminder on her phone to remind Chloe to take her iron pills and she'll buy all of Chloe's expensive hair care to keep round hers. And Chloe will make sure to drag Red out to lunch everyday and will always be around to hold her at night (as Red seems to fall asleep a lot easier and earlier when she's in Chloe's arms).
But they don't talk about the elephant in the room. But it's getting harder for Chloe to ignore as she sees the tell-tale signs of Red withering away as the festival tour goes on.
And out of all the people Red keeps contact with, it's Maddox who has to point out the two of them are practically dating and to sort it out before everyone on set has to deal with another awkward week of them blowing up.
So... They talk. They have to.
And they don't get together.
Because Chloe highlights the fact that she won't be a bystander AND a girlfriend if Red keeps destroying herself. And Red doesn't want to say goodbye to her Rebel Riot persona. She doesn't want to admit it's time to let go and/or make a change.
They make it to the final week of the summer festival tour with ACMG, and they're pretty much acting like kicked puppies around each other. The cherry on top? Both their mothers are here to support them for their final show of the summer, and they can tell something has happened.
And have you ever told your mother about your summer fling/sort-of-nearly girlfriend/one that may have gotten away/the bane of your existence and the reason you get up in the morning? No? Well neither have Red and Chloe before, and they both feel like digging a small grave when they both end up doing so.
Both get information on why their mothers were so against them becoming celebrities when they first started off. And for Red, this incudes Bridget tearfully telling her daughter that she is so much more than what she can give to people. That she should live for herself and for the people she loves that love her back. And whilst she can't dictate what Red does, she really hopes that she won't make the same mistake she did decades ago.
A lot is going on in Red's mind when she goes up to be the closing act for the final show.
She goes through with her set, hears the cheers of her fans. And once playing her final song, she starts making her way off stage only to meet Chloe's eyes. Chloe who had been watching from the VIP section by the stage, in hopes to find some kind of closure or at least say goodbye. And Red knows what she needs to do.
She goes back, calling attention for one last song. The song she covers? One of Chloe's unreleased songs she had shared a few festivals ago. A song that was about the good in life and the joy she's found with Red.
Red's heard it only a handful of times, but she committed it to memory. And after performing the song, she's looking at only Chloe when she makes a large announcement.
She'll be abandoning her act as Rebel Riot for good. That she'll be taking a hiatus to have some time for herself and others that she loves before releasing new music under her own name, not a stage name.
There's mixed reactions in the crowd. But for the first time, Red doesn't care if she's disappointed her fans. Because Chloe is quickly making her way onto the stage, and she practically runs to Red. And before Red can whisper any apologies for the past, Chloe is bringing her into a kiss for all the world to see.
In that moment, they're only caring about each other. In that moment, they know they'll be okay and they're going to be able to work through this together.

Chad's best man speech at Chloe and Red's wedding consists of four things,
1. Thanking everyone that put money into the bet that was "when is Chloe going to stop being dense." He had won that pot and would never let anyone forget it, because he knew his sister, and while they were both Charmings, awareness had skipped both of them. Red yells when he's finished that she was the one who had to deal with Chloe's obliviousness so really she deserved the money over everyone else, it could serve as her emotional compensation. (inspired by @ineedtherapydesperately)
2. Talking about Red, and how much he loved her, how he loved watching her grow up, getting to be the sibling she never had, the big brother she came too when she needed someone that wasn't Chloe or Bridget. He totally doesn't cry when he talks about the first time Red had confided in him about her feelings for his sister, about how he knew then and there that Chloe would have the best person looking after her heart. Chad talks about his favorite shenanigans of theirs, the ultimate one had been charming Chloe's mirror to show her hair as yellow, a neon yellow. He also talks about helping both of them with their proposals. Chad tells Red he loves her, and that she'll always be his favorite wonderlandian sister.
3. He can't even start Chloe's part before he starts blubbering. Through his tears he talks about his little sister, quite literally one of the most important people in his life. He talks about how growing up, he vowed to always take care of her. How he was always in her corner no matter what, just like she was his. How growing up, he couldn't have asked for a better sibling. Chad mentions his favorite moment of theirs, they had been in the car headed to the castle, top down and the radio blasting a song he couldn't remember, and Chloe had turned to him and said "Chad, you're the best brother i could've ever asked for." And well Chad had to pull over because he just needed to hug her right then and there. He ends the section by saying that he couldn't have asked for a better sister either, and that he would always be her big brother.
4. He turns to Red and Chloe to say this last part
"Red and Chloe, I am so proud of you two. I got to watch you grow up, fall in love, get married, and now i get to see you grow together for the rest of your lives. I will always support you, just like you have always done with me and Audrey. I will always be your big brother, and if you need anything i'm just a rabbit hole away, Love, Chad."
Both brides are crying when he gets back to his seat at the wedding party table, and if the hug the three share lasts for a good minute, nobody can do anything but smile and cry.
