what is with men being mad any time a woman raises her voice where did that even come from. someone posted a video of a small electrical explosion, and the top comment was of course the woman screams. the second comment is women try not to scream challenge, level impossible. i had to go back and watch the video again. there is, somewhat fainty, a little gasp emitted off-camera, more of a yelp than a scream. it is mostly lost in the crack of the explosion. afterwards, you hear her voice, shaken, say, are you okay?

i am helping one of my friends train her voice pitch lower, because she wants to be taken seriously at work. she and i do each other's nails and talk about gender roles; and how - due to our appearance - neither of us have ever been able to be "hysterical" in public. we both appear young and sweet and feminine. she is cisgender, and cannot use her natural voice in her profession because people keep saying she appears to be "vapid". we both try to figure out if our purposeful voice lowering is technically sexist. is it promoting something when you are a victim to it?

a storm almost sends a pole through a car window. in the dashcam, you can hear the woman passenger say her partner's name twice, crying out in alarm. she sounds terrified. in the comments, she is lambasted for her lack of calm. how is that even fucking helping?

in high school, i taught myself to have a lower voice. i had been recorded when i was genuinely (and righteously) upset; and i hated how my voice sounded on the phone speakers when it was played back. i was defending my mom, and my voice cracked with emotion. it meant i was no longer winning the argument: i was just shrieking about it.

girls meet each other after a long summer and let out a little joyful scream. this usually stops around 12-14, because people will not tolerate this display of affection (as it has the effect of being passingly annoying). something about the fact that little girls can't ever even be annoying. we are trained to examine each part of our lives (even joy) for anything that could make us upsetting and disgusting. they act like teenage girls are breaking into houses and shrieking you awake at 3 in the morning. speaking as a public school educator: trust me, it's not that bad, you can just roll your eyes and move on. it does not compare to the ways boys end up being annoying: slurs in graffiti, purposefully mocking your body, following you after you said no. you know, just boy things.

there's another video of a man who is not allowed to yell in the house, so he snaps his fingers when he's excited about soccer. the comments are full of angry men, talking about how their brother is unfairly caged. let him express himself and this is terrible to do to someone. eventually the couple has to address it in a second video: they are married with a newborn baby. he was trying not to wake the infant up. there is no comment on the fact women are not allowed to yell indoors. or the fact that it could have been really alarming or triggering for his wife. sometimes i wonder if straight men even like women, if they even enjoy being in relationships with them.

for the longest time, i hated roller coasters because it always felt inappropriate and uncomfortable for me to scream. one of my friends called me on it, said it was unusual i'm so unwilling. i had to go to my therapist about it. i don't like to scream because i was not raised in a safe situation, and raising my voice would have brought unsafe attention towards me. even when i am supposed to scream, it feels shameful, guilty. i was not treated kindly, so i lack a basic form of self-protection. this is not a natural response. it is not good that in a situation of high adrenaline - i shut up about it.

something very bad is happening, i think. in between all the beauty standards and the stuff i've already discussed - this one feels new and cruel in a way i can't quite express. yes, it's scary and silencing. but there's something about how direct it is - that so many men agree with the sentiment that women should never yell, even in an emergency - it feels different.

is the word shriek gendered automatically? how about shrill or screech? in self defense class, one of the first things they tell you is to yell, as loud and as shrilly as you can. they say it will feel rude. most women will not do this. you need to practice overcoming the social pressure and just scream.

most women do not cry out, even when it's bad. we do not report it. we walk faster. we do not make a scene. what would be the point of doing anything else? no matter what we do, we don't get taken seriously. it is a joke to them. an instagram caption punchline. we have to present ourselves as silent, beautiful, captivating - "valuable."

a woman is outside watching her kids when someone throws a firecracker at them. she screams and runs towards her children. in the comments, grown men flock together in the thousands: god. women are so annoying.

the last couple of years i've thrifted just about all my non-underwear clothes, but i needed a pair of black formal-looking trousers on short notice, so for "speed and efficiency's sake" (hah...), i decided to go to the mall just this once

JESUS the quality of fast fashion has PLUMMETED these last few years! of course it was always low-quality, but i was genuinely shocked that in five chain stores i couldn't find ONE pair of women's black trousers that a) were in a non-synthetic fabric, b) had enough fabric to not be see-through and have pockets, or c) weren't already fraying or had loosening stitches or buttons

the men's section at least had a couple of items in natural fibers (and thus i can hope they will hold up through at least one cycle of washing), but i still had to pick the one with the fewest loose threads sticking out

thrifting clothes is a bit of an ordeal (there are no secondhand stores nearby so i must plan a trip there; the assortment is random; browsing the racks requires more attention; often the clothes don't have sizing tags anymore) but GOD was trying to find something halfway wearable in a chain store a lot more work and WAY more depressing

okay I need to stop yapping cuz im sleepy but I LOVE the idea of giving Leo the coping mechanism of doing anatomy practice to calm himself down... I threw it out as an idea in the art styles+content post because I don't necessarily see him as an artist, but now that I think about it... I see him moreso just doing it to cope, and not trying to be an artist, it would also reflect some of his own personal struggles, like he would primarily do male anatomy just due to his preferences, specifically drawing torsos, he would never add or draw male faces bc he would be reminded of his attraction to men, and he still feels that internalized homophobic shame of being aroused by other men, and leo is unable to separate practice from/with(?) arousal/interest/sexuality in this medium (for himself). But THEN there's another layer of shame in the case of him drawing women, he would feel shameful and uncomfortable drawing a woman's body and would just feel gross and, again, uncomfortable perceiving a woman because of his preferences, which is going back to the fact that he can't separate practice from/with arousal/sexuality. It all just kind of ends up being this toxic habit and toxic coping mechanism for him, where he uses drawing as an outlet to calm down, but in turn, when doing anatomy of a man, he would progressively start to feel bad again, but not for the same reason, and if/when anatomy practice doesn't calm him down (which it usually doesn't, but he just cant help but try), he just starts scribbling and scribbling and venting and ranting through incohorent patterns and words, which is much more successful in calming him down than anatomy practice. In the end, It's a habit, and unless he can shake some sense into himself, it'll keep happening to him, wearing him down to the point of giving up, and putting his brain (scribbles/incohorent thoughts) on paper.

As a long-time shopper in both aisles, unfortunately the grass is not very green over in the men's either lmao.

Your waist is 30 inches? Okay, well, our 30 inches aren't your tape measure's 30 inches. Also, we've perfected the technique of making trousers that are too tight for movement but that also fall off. Or take shirts. Your chest is 40 inches so you're a 40, right? Well, yes, sort of. But your shoulders are now too broad or too narrow, you're fat, and you've got too thick/thin a neck so ties won't sit right. Some shirts are sized by neck! So you're a 16.5 neck size. Now it's falling off you because you've got a broad neck on a slight frame. Go down a size and you're choking.

The answer is, just like with women's clothing, to find the one shop that has a pattern block you fit and hope they don't change it. Which they probably will.

Biden openly supports access to abortion and has taken steps to protect those rights at a federal level even after Roe v Wade was overturned. Trump, on the other hand, was the man who appointed the judges who helped overturn Roe v Wade and he openly brags about how proud he is of that decision. He also states that he believes individual states should have the final say in whether or not abortion is legal, and that he trusts them to "do the right thing", meaning he supports stronger abortion bans.

I'm rolling healthcare and prescriptions and vaccines and public health all into one category here since they are related. Biden has lowered drug costs, expanded access to medicaid, and ACA enrollment has risen during his presidency. He has also made it so medical debt no longer applies to a person's credit score. He signed many executive orders during his first few weeks in office in order to get a handle on Trump's grievous mishandling of the COVID pandemic. Trump also wants to end the ACA. Trump is well known for refusing to wear a mask during the pandemic, encouraging the use of hydroxylchloroquine to "treat" COVID, and being openly anti-vaxx.

Trump wants to reverse the student loan forgiveness plans Biden has enacted. Biden has already forgiven billions of dollars in loans and continues to work towards forgiving more.

Infrastructure funding:

I'm putting these links next together because they are all about infrastructure.

In general, Trump's "achievements" for infrastructure were to destroy environmental protections to speed up projects. Many of his plans were ineffective due to the fact that he did not clearly outline where the money was going to come from, and he was unwilling to raise taxes to pay for the projects. He was unable (and unwilling) to pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill during his 4 years in office. He did sign a few disaster relief bills. He did not enthusiastically promote renewable energy infrastructure. He created "Infrastructure Weeks" that the federal government then failed to fund. Trump did not do nothing for infrastructure, but his no-tax stance and his dislike for renewable energy means the contributions he made to American infrastructure were not as much as he claimed they were, nor as much as they could have been. Basically, he made a lot of promises, and delivered on very few of them. He is not "against" infrastructure, but he's certainly against funding it.

Biden was able to pass that bipartisan bill after taking office. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan that Trump tried to prevent from passing during Biden's term contains concrete funding sources and step by step plans to rebuild America's infrastructure. Biden has done far more for American infrastructure than Trump did, most notably by actually getting the bipartisan bill through congress.

From pardons for non-violent marijuana convictions to reducing the federal government's reliance on private prisons, Biden has done a lot in four years to reform our criminal justice system on the federal level. Meanwhile, Trump has described himself as "tough on crime". He advocates for more policing, including "stop and frisk" activities. Ironically it's actually quite difficult to find sources about what Trump thinks about crime, because almost all of the search results are about his own crimes.
