Does Diabetes Cause Memory Loss?
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website, available here. In this vast population, many peoples are suffering from the type 2 diabetes. And the numbers are growing daily, driven by increasingly sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and daily stress. Lets first understand about type-2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common nowadays. Cause by insulin resistance. This occurs when either the insulin produced by a person’s pancreas doesn’t function as it should or the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin. As a result, insulin is unable to do its job, which is to move glucose (sugar) obtained from your diet, into the muscle cells. As a result, your blood sugar levels (BSL) rise.
Another effect is that the resistance prompts the pancreas to increase the production of insulin. Uncontrolled, long-term type 2 diabetes is known to cause a number of health complications, including, Heart damage, Stroke, Vision problems, Kidney damage, Damage to the Central Nervous System (CNS), Digestive ailments, Infertility in both sexes etc.
How diabetes affect memory loss?
If people with diabetes have high blood sugar levels and it's unmanaged, it can be very dangerous for them. As result damage body organs. If such damage occurs, it will cause cognitive problems and a condition known as vascular dementia. There is also some research that points to a close connection between insulin signaling and glucose metabolism in the brain. When insulin receptors in the brain senses an imbalance in insulin levels in the body which typically, as we have seen, happens with diabetics it increases the risk of AD significantly.
Protecting Your Memory: The Impact of Diabetes Prevention There are several actions one can take to cut their risk and prevent/control diabetes. Understand one by one.
Do more exercise, Atleast 150min per week. You should include cardiovascular activity resistance training, and balance & flexibility movements. It will be benefial for you.
Always eat healthy. Replace fried, salty, high-sugar, and high-GI foods with plant-based options.
Do brainstroming with puzzles. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that activities like Sudoku, Chess, playing a musical instrument, etc. keep the brain active and help reduce the risk of contracting Alzheimer’s.
Do not smoke and stop alcohol consumption.
Follow these, you will get better result. The right diet-exercise-stress management routine, will not just improve your BSL, but even completely reverse diabetes. Transform Your Health: Manage Diet, Exercise, and Stress!

Does Diabetes Cause Memory Loss?
High blood sugar, if left unmanaged, will over time, cause damage to almost every organ and system in the body—and that includes blood vessels of the brain. If such damage occurs, it will cause cognitive problems and a condition known as vascular dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common types of dementia and some studies suggest that it may be linked to high blood sugar levels.

Seeing the notice on login that I've gotten the graveyard daily again makes me smile... though it's a sad smile. As someone with chronic memory loss myself, it's a bittersweet task. But I'll do it, Sir, gladly. Who are we delivering flowers to today?

I came up with the absolute worst idea for a cactiflower fic
#so we all know what Hanahaki is right.#The unrequited love disease where the person in love coughs up flower petals- if the person returns their love#the hanahaki goes away#if not then the person dies or gets surgery to remove it (which can lead to memory loss of that person or never feeling love again...whatev#So Basil would have hanahaki. Flower disease for the flower boy.#He mentions in the game that a cactus reminds him of Kel#Do you see where I'm going with this#Oh sure! At first it would be the flower of the cactus- (a mini one ofc) but like.#I had a thought. what would it feel like if I had him cough up the actual cactus....#pls god this would genuinely be the WORST thing ive EVER written but like#its one of those things where you know its bad. You know its awful. You know you would cringe in empathy.#but its so agonizingly. Tantalizingly. Deliciously awful.#that you just gotta do it#i m-#omori fandom talk me out of this sht

Will simon forget that betty isnt technically around because that happens with dementia right(?)
Absolutely. He tends to think of her as being away but not gone, like he could just go in the other room and find her there, or that she's on a trip.
He talks about her a lot and it's one of the main ways people have found to calm him down, to ask him about stuff with Betty gets him less agitated. When he gets more prone to wandering he tends to get confused and default to looking for her to try and figure out what he was doing. There's been a couple times where he gets brought back to PB and Marcy by a helpful candy citizen who found him wandering calling for her. He might default to calling women around him Betty or Princess and it can be hard to tell if it's a placeholder name or if he genuinely thinks she's there.

The ableism surrounding those with Alzheimer’s and other memory losing and altering disorders and diseases horrify me. They’re still people. Even with memory problems, I’m still me.

Gather around, my young friends and fellow dinosaurs, let me tell you about some BULLSHIT no one ever tells you about. I'm talking about menopause and perimenopause. Now, menopause has a very stringent medical definition. You have to not have had a period for exactly 12 months and a day to be considered in menopause. All the bullshit before that day once you start going through The Change is considered perimenopause. Here's some bullshit you might experience that people actually talk about when you're in perimenopause:
- shorter time between periods
- irregular periods
- hot flashes and/or cold flashes
- fucked up sleep
- OMG NIGHT SWEATS
- Vagina as dry as the Sahara desert
- lighter periods and/or endless bleeding like it's The Flood but it's in your pants
- lack of interest in Adult Fun Times
This time of joy can last anywhere from a couple of years to a god damn decade and there's no medical way right now to predict it.
Here's some of the REAL bullshit they don't tell you about but your dinosaur aunt is here to let you know:
- You can start perimenopause in your 30s, don't listen to idiot doctors who tell you you're "too young" because they don't know your body like you do.
- Perimenopause will make you HELLA DUMB. Seriously, I'm talking Bigly broken brain. Brain fog? Check. Short term memory? Wave goodbye to it. Ability to make words form out of thoughts? Yeah, good luck to you.
- Perimenopause can cause horrible fatigue because in addition to losing estrogen, you're also losing testosterone. Oh and that also leads to muscle wasting, cool cool.
- Things might suddenly hurt more because estrogen is known to be neuroprotective.
- If you're super lucky like I am, and like to collect rare illnesses, you might even get Burning Mouth Syndrome 💀
- And meanwhile, while you're going through this bullshit, you'll be getting gaslit by doctors who are operating based on 30 year old debunked data about how HRT causes breast cancer (not really) and that they shouldn't put you on it until you're in actual menopause. (Data shows starting HRT early can potentially prevent Alzheimer's in later years.)
- There are entire online clinics right now (I use Midi Health) focused on providing care for peri and menopausal patients and they will happily prescribe you HRT even if your regular PCP or OBGYN do not (if you meet the criteria). I've been pretty impressed with how holistically they view the patient. For full disclosure, I learned about them from my integrative health doctor and they do not accept Medicare (yet).
I'm 46 years old right now and I've been symptomatic for perimenopause for the last 8 years, although it's gotten the most dramatic in the past 2 years or so, which I hope means I'm almost done, holy hell. Yeah I was on the early side, but if it can happen to me, it can happen to you, so it's never too early to think about these things. And I hope to at least spare some of you the mind-fuckery I've been through because no one told me about most of this stuff, including my own mother who just DOESN'T REMEMBER what happened to her and now I completely understand why. And because I also have a connective tissue disease, I used to just dismiss my pain and fatigue as being caused by that illness rather than the loss of hormones.
Anyways, this is why we need Elders in our lives, so they can do Grandma Story Hour like I just did and validate you when the entire medical field tries to gaslight you. I hope you've found some or all of this educational/useful. Please share with your friends because we really do NOT talk about this stuff enough. (Ewwww Moon Blood!)
Stay well, and don't let the bastards grind you down!

I wanna know your dementia thoughts its interesting
So Simon is a regular human, we could assume that he's still immortal with the popular idea that he is not dead by the time of "Together Again" where Finn is shown to be in his 70s-90s, but he is still a regular human. It is very possible for him to develop human diseases and conditions and with how old he is even to be expected. My idea that is quickly shaping up to be an AU is that he starts experiencing minor memory loss around his late 60s, but it's not bad enough that anyone really questions it they know he's old its not unexpected, but then it keeps progressing. The people around him are pretty confused and scared because they don't have experience with human specific dementia, they probably don't know exactly what's happening to him besides maybe PB, but more likely they only figure it out once they take him to a Minerva-Bot. He is probably around stage 4 by the time that they are seeking any kind of diagnosis for him and by stage 4 of dementia you have trouble with routines and might get lost more often, which terrifies his loved ones considering he's in OoO of all places. He understands the gravity of the diagnosis and I think he's absolutely terrified, he knows full well what losing your memory is like and that confused haze that you live in when things around you become unfamiliar. I think he's very cautious about the possibility he's going to end up like Ice King again, and so is Marcy. It's explained to her that this is progressive and he Will get worse and outlined what the stages look like and she's so scared she's going to lose him again.

10 Health Conditions Often Found with Diabetes
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website, available here. Unhealthy diets combined with lack of physical exercise and high-stress levels are known to trigger a phenomenon known as insulin resistance. The big issue of diabetes is a damage to organs. Without treatment, it worsens and causes many health issues.
10 Common Conditions That Follow Diabetes:
Heart disease Atleast 50% diabetics are suffering from the heart disease. It has some common risk. Smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, high-fat diets, and alcohol overconsumption are commonly seen in both these conditions. That also means that the measures that work to manage blood sugar levels (BSL) are equally effective in lowering the risk of heart damage. In this condition your first priority should be take care of your diabetes, and try to maintain normal blood sugar levels. So try to follow proper diet inlcuding healthy eating, low GI fruits, carbs, fiber, protein, and micronutrients like antioxidants are considered good for both the heart and BSL. Including your dialy routine exercise, meditation can help reduce stress and lower the risk of heart disease.
Joint Pain
Uncontrolled BSL can cause significant damage to the musculoskeletal system leading to compromised mobility and pain. Almost half of all adults with diabetes end up with arthritis as well. This is a result of high BSL that damages nerves and blood vessels, which goes on to erode the cartilage that cushions joints.
Muscle mass loss Everyone wants to build muscle, but it's especially important for diabetics. While walking used to be the main exercise recommended, doctors now recognize that muscle mass is crucial. Muscles burn glucose, so having more muscle helps burn more calories.
Slow-healing wounds
This is the most common symptoms of mismanaged diabetes is slow-healing wounds. Lack of sensitivity—caused by nerve damage—most often seen in the lower extremities means that cuts, blisters, and small sores can go unnoticed, becoming a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. This leads to open wounds, which the body is unable to quickly fight off owing to its compromised immunity, due to high BSL.
5.Hypertension (High BP)- Like diabetes, hypertension does not noticed easily. Many diabetics also have high blood pressure, often due to insulin resistance. Regularly check your blood pressure; if it's over 120/80, you may be at risk for hypertension. One of the primary causes of diabetic hypertension is plaque build-up on arterial walls, which is caused by high LDL cholesterol (aka, “bad” cholesterol). Losing weight is the first step in reducing risk and preventing complications. And this means, switching to a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, managing stress, stopping smoking, and reducing alcohol consumption.
