The way Ambessa talks about the Guile is interesting. She speaks of it with such suspicion, dislike, and literal resentment. At first you'd assume that her attitude is driven by her fued with the Black Rose, but we don't know how long that's been going on, or if this was her own bias prior to it. Under the lens that these are Ambessa's own preconcieved biases before she got involved with the BR then it immediately becomes a critique on her own family. You just can't divorce her comments from how the show depicts her children, from Mel.

Almost every word Ambessa used to describe the Guile describes Mel, except "absent honor" of course. And when you understand that, it becomes clear just how doomed Ambessa and Mel are as mother and daughter. Ambessa indirectly, without the intention to imply Mel, states that her distaste for the fundamental aspects of Mel's personality. Ambessa loves her daughter, but she doesn't LIKE her.

i think a lot about tsukkiyama just living in their own world. tsukkiyama who come to and back from school together every single day. tsukkiyama who silently laugh at each others jokes not realizing people are looking at them. tsukkiyama who eat lunch on the roof where no one else can bother them. tsukkiyama who spend their breaks listening to music sharing one crappy pair of earphones. tsukkiyama who have inside jokes and gossip about everyone else in the class. tsukkiyama who can communicate with a few meaningful glances from across the room. tsukkiyama who can only talk about movies and shows they watched together, or books they exchanged and anytime someone else tries to join in their conversation kei looks at them with his patented annoyed look and tadashi just stops talking while they both wait for the other party to leave. they're just. obsessed with each other to the point they don't care about anyone or anything else. it's not even healthy but they're okay with it

thoughts on thistle and yaad's dynamic that i vomited in the tags of another post but will now try to articulate here: they're not actually family, or at least they shouldn't be. not in a conventional sense anyway. framing them as uncle and nephew (even in a non-literal, silly fantasy world way) rides more on technicality than anything concrete.

what i mean by this is yaad calls thistle by name and says he and delgal were raised "like" brothers. he talks about thistle like he's an outsider imposing himself into the melinis' space, and it's clear that thistle was never legitimized as a member of the family. for thistle's part, though we don't know how he would treat yaad pre-demon brainrot, it's safe to assume based on the way he punishes him—turning him into a doll—and how little is shown in the way of any sort of relationship between them that thistle only cares* about yaad as an extension of delgal (otherwise i'd expect something like kabru and milsiril, because it's not like another complicated interspecies family dynamic would be out of place, yet there's next to nothing on them even in bonus content, just their scant interactions in the main story).

in essence, they're strangers to one another. thistle's desperation to preserve the illusion of a family, a model where he doesn't even fit, was the snare they were caught in for the past thousand years of stasis. yaad-as-nephew is a prop to uphold that illusion, and thistle is playing a role he's unfit to play. in the context of post-canon interactions, attempting to reconstruct that facade would only be a reenactment of trauma for them both (in a deeply compelling way i'd love to watch unfold, tbh), as that "uncle and nephew" framing places thistle in an implicit position of power over someone he's already traumatized through misuse of authority in the past, a role which also perpetuates his adultification and yaad's infantilization in turn. it'd mostly be an obstacle to any real connection.

best to burn the melini family bridge, i think, and if there's still anything salvageable left in the rubble, let something different supplant it.

steve’s always been kind of hush hush about his home life. part of him is ashamed to admit he probably gets hit by his dad or yelled at. he’s being a baby anyway. he’s supposed to be stoic and cool. he’s not supposed to cry over a little bumping around from his old man. so he pushes it down and doesn’t tell anyone. until they’re about twelve or thirteen and soda just sees him on the curb outside his house for the first time he thinks ever. he’s got a black eye and a visible handprint on his cheek, though he’s holding a slab of frozen meat he managed to snag before running out. he’s never really told soda the whole story…shoot, the whole reason they became friends in the first place was because they were two “troubled” young boys who were usually having to stay in for recess together because of soda’s not understood impulsivity and steve’s anger issues, but nobody knew where those anger issues came from.

he just breaks down before soda can say anything and gets up to run off before soda grabs a hold of his shoulder to get him to stay and wait and just talk a minute…and he does. by hid he tells him everything. the messy divorce, how he became a cheap prize between his parents because both of them wanted custody over him, the abuse from his dad, the constant hitting and luring back with the promise of money and maybe a home cooked meal…something that certainly wouldn’t have been able to cover or make up for the years of emotional ahd physical abuse…

and everything just makes sense. steve’s anger. his unwillingness to show the slightest bit of negative-or as he dubbed it, “weak” emotions. the way he’d usually try to buy soda dinner or something after a heated argument. it all clicks. and all soda can do is hold in his own tears as his normally emotionally “well put together” friend breaks down in his arms

I was listening to So Much (For) Stardust and accidentally had too many thoughts in one sitting so we have another AU concept. I don't have a solid name yet so I've just been calling Team Supernova AU.

Long story short:

Ghetsis freezes over Unova's major cities, taking most survivors hostage to join Team Plasma, and leaving several thousands dead from the frost

Emmet, Elesa, and others try fending off the Plasma Frigate in Nimbasa but ultimately lose with injuries (Emmet got frozen on his right side)

Emmet takes as many survivors as he can into the tunnels, later joining other groups to his and forming Team Supernova in resistance to Team Plasma

Ingo went missing about a year prior to all of this, so Emmet has already spent a lot of time alone. The only pokemon he has left is Ingo's Chandelure, as the rest did not survive the invasion. He's generally very cold and shut off emotionally as a result, and doesn't really express himself like he used to.

I'll drop more details later, right now the AU in early concept stages so it's essentially a bundle of "what would this be like" and "what if this happened" and "this could be cool". If I have time I'll drop some of the other uniform designs later. Anyways have a good night, see ya.
