I also wanted to write their first time together but smutty scenes take a lot of time to write for me and I wanted to make the deadline. But I still want to write that but a little later.

Here’s my contribution to the Chenford Secret Santa 2024 collection. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, @imperiumwifestrikesagain !

I’m a bit late to the party, but I hope you’ll still enjoy this little holiday read. Here’s a preview.

Lucy saw Tim turn down the hallway. She was concerned for a moment since he didn’t make eye contact with her. Perhaps she had taken her teasing too far. Maybe Tim really wanted to keep them a secret more than she thought he did. A moment later, she felt her phone buzz. She turned it over to read the message.

Tim – Laundry room.

Lucy practically choked on her own spit. She quickly flipped her phone back over.

Celina and Bailey looked at her curiously.

“You okay?” Celina asked, looking both at her and around her to sense both her physical and spiritual well-being.

Lucy coughed and tried to clear her throat. “Yeah,” she said putting her hand to her neck. “I think I just have something in my throat. Excuse me for a minute.”

Celina and Bailey nodded and returned to their conversation about someone Celina had met on a blind date. Lucy had already heard her tell the story twice, so she knew she wasn’t missing out on anything.

Lucy took another swig of her water bottle and turned to go down the hallway.

As soon as she opened the laundry room door, Tim put his finger to his nose to keep her quiet and turned on both the washing machine and the dryer. He was sure Lopez wouldn’t mind if he started one of the loads she had sitting in there, and he wanted some noise cover.

Lucy quietly closed the door behind her and walked closer to Tim.

“Lock the door first,” he requested, his eyes darkened and his voice husky.

“What’re you doin’?”

Tim startles at the sudden voice he hears behind him just over his shoulder, hastily closing the web browser to try and hide the evidence. He comes face to face with Angela as he turns his head, the knowing glint in her eyes and that goddamn smirk of hers telling him everything he needs to know.

“Nothing,” he shakes his head. “Just work.”

“Uh-huh, sure. Because you need ice skates for work.”

“I wasn’t– I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You’re a terrible liar, you know that?”

“Fine, yes. I was looking for skates. Happy.”

Angela makes a face. “For Saturday? I thought you said you’re not going?”

“I’m not.”

“Huh. That’s funny. I could’ve sworn Lucy told me earlier that you are. And that I’m not blind and just saw you googling where to borrow some skates, which, by the way, you can just get there.”

Crap. Well, that’s what he gets for looking things up while at work in a building full of detectives. He heaves a sigh.

“I panicked, okay?”

“You panicked?”

“Yes. She was– she was talking about it, all excited, because she’d finally get to go, and when she asked if she’d see me there, I just blurted out yes.”

Angela crosses her arms over her chest, her eyes sparkling knowingly as she’s unable to fully hold back a smirk. “Well, that sure sounds like you want to go, Tim.”

“No, it doesn’t and I don’t. I can’t skate, Lopez. What do I do?”

Popping the neat line of tape, Tim unwrapped the paper and lifted the lid of a box to reveal a printout. It was a reservation for two for a scotch whisky tour, including a private dinner and a round of tastings. He noted the date and time: December 30th, 4:00 p.m. “Nice,” he said with a smile. “Thank you. Let’s hope that we can both get off shift in time for it.” “Yeah, well, we’d have to leave pretty early if we wanna make it there.” She bit her lip and motioned to the box. “The rest might help with that.” Intrigued, he set the paper down and moved to the next. Another printout, but this time with the British Airways logo stamped across the top: tickets to Scotland for the 26th through the 2nd of January. “This is— Luce, that’s two days away.” “Actually one, remember?” she reminded him with a grin.

Tim and Lucy ring in the New Year with a trip away from LA — 5,146 miles away, to be exact.
