hp ww1 era; a completely serious guide by @potionboy3 and yours truly

the first version a lot more new ocs and plot points have been introduced to this verse since annie published the first powerpoint, so we felt like it was time for an update. this was a labour of love and now it's here! a tongue-in-cheek intro to the world war I era, featuring many of the ocs created within the fandom! obviously this is from mine and annie's point of view, and while we did look through the tag for all the ocs, we don't know all of them as well as we would like, so we winged it😂 many of the nicknames are based on what we've called these characters when they didn't have names yet/if we couldn't remember their names. some of the jokes and references might be incomprehensible to anyone but us but i hope not all of them, lol. if we got something wrong, let us know!

last december i created my character kit enfield and me and @gaygryffindorgal decided that he and ares gaunt's story will take place during the first world war. we wanted to explore the war from the wizard perspective and the more we thought of our characters the more ideas we started to get and with the help of @cursed-herbalist & @magicallymalted a new era was born. now it's been around 9 months and so many others have embraced our story and become part of it and i'm amazed. i decided to make a video that is about the whole era and include as many characters as i possibly could!

Kit is a squib who ran away from home at 17, joining the army. His rank is lieutenant (later promoted to a captain). Kit is part of the "A company" and he gets along well with his men. His company respects him a lot and he's very liked in the army. He gets embroiled in the wizarding plot to overthrow the British Ministry of Magic when he sees Ares Gaunt using magic and foils a plot by the anti-muggle organization TOWER.

The second son of Marvolo Gaunt's elder brother Argus. Ares's family is known for its blood-supremacist views but Ares has attempted to cut all ties with them. At Hogwarts he was sorted into Slytherin. He's an auror and works as an undercover operative in the muggle army, posing as a captain for the "A company". Later he's promoted to the rank of major. His objective is incapacitating members of the terrorist organization TOWER. Ares is distantly related to Elian and Theo Goldcrest through their mother Kerina.

First-born son of the pure-blood Avery family, Lunas is an auror who works undercover within TOWER and infiltrates the German Ministry of Magic and Muggle army. He's a trained soldier and Royal Flying Corps pilot. He later joins the "A Company" along with Alexej Kavinsky. He wants to take down TOWER. Lunas was a Gryffindor at Hogwarts.

Alexej Kavinsky @potionboy3

Alexej is the son of Anton Vogel, the head of the German auror office (later Minister for Magic and Supreme Mugwump). He goes by his mother's last name to avoid association with his father. He attended Durmstrang and joined the AM (Anti-Muggle) movement associated with Grindelwald. While being undecover in the German army, Lunas Avery discovered his identity, causing Alexej to flee the country and join TOWER for a while. He later becomes part of the "A company" along with Lunas Avery.

Odessa is the younger sister of Lunas and childhood friend of Kit Enfield. At Hogwarts she was a Gryffindor. She is a journalist, uncovering injustice and reporting on the events of the war. She later marries Kit.

Presumably muggle-born Gryffindor who joined the British muggle army after his and Ione's break-up. He's a proud Irish and supports the Irish independence movement (getting him in trouble from time to time). He's part of the "A company" and gets badly wounded at the end of the war.

American young man who takes part in the war under the Canadian army. He got in trouble with the law after violating Rappaport's law. He later joined the "A company". In Ilvermorny he was sorted into Wampus.

French ministry intelligence operative who has a famous family history. Maritza attended Durmstrang. During the war she helped Ares on several ministry related issues. She also met Linus Sullivan and the two fell in love.

A Ravenclaw and a brilliant scientist, experimenting with and disarming magical weapons of war. He crosses paths with Kit, Ares, Lunas, and Alexej during their search of said weapons. He later becomes a teacher for a muggle school.

Zedric was engaged to Ione Avery but she broke the engagement after learning that Zedric was part of the German Anti Muggle movement AM. He and Alexej were part of the movement together and Zedric tended to take a lot of credit from Alexej's actions rather than having the courage to act himself.

Relationship with them: Kit and Melv were always very different. Melv was responsible and serious. He was patient and liked spending time alone while Kit was loud and had a hard time focusing on anything. They got even more distant while Melv was away from home after going to Hogwarts. He didn’t have the knowledge of everything that was happening back at home. He always assumed Kit was just being dramatic. After Kit ran away from home, he was mad and thought that Kit was breaking their mother’s heart. He didn’t see his little brother’s side of things. When the war started Melv was worried about Kit. He kept up with news about it and tried to be on loop on what was happening. During the war Ares gave his gun for Kit to make sure he’d be safe. Eventually Kit got caught using it and Melv was sent to wipe his memories since Ares’s Presence in the war was meant to be a secret. Kit begged his brother to let him keep his memories of Ares and he agreed to it and lied to the ministry. When he learned about Kit’s marriage, he was not supportive.  He knew it was a bad decision that would end with Odessa getting hurt. Their relationship didn’t get any better after that. It didn’t help that Melv had secret feelings for his wife. Melv later on regretted his views of the time when Kit was young. He was sad of not making things right with his brother while he was still alive. Kit died without the two of them ever fully making up.

Melv has has been in love with Odessa since their childhood. Unfortunately, she only seemed to have eyes for his younger brother. Despite their differences and frequent arguing, they made a good team.  The two got closer after Kit's death as Melv offered her support when she most needed it and it quickly resulted in growing feelings and happy marriage.

Christopher “Kit” Enfield 11th of March 1888 - ??? 1918 Kit has turned into a favourite of mine even though he has been here for a short while. His story is tragic but even with all the angst, he’s so lovable and funny and I just adore his face. He fights so hard for his life and it’s such a shame how Ren gets to him in the end. He doesn’t want to die but he’s not strong enough to fight back. That dying scene haunts me. This video about the main relationships of his life. His love story and bond with Ares, marriage and long friendship with Odessa and the difficult relationship with his brother Melv. Though most of all it’s a video of his own fight.  I’ve wanted to use this song for him for ever since creating his story and now felt like a fitting time to do so. (It’s also fitting in a more literal sense since Kit can’t swim well).  As many of you have probably noticed, I haven’t been making videos lately. I’m taking a little break in hopes of finding some passion for it again. This video was made some time ago and I wasn’t completely happy with it after finishing... I’m still not. Let's talk about Mystie...

Do we hate her? Do we love her? Do we love to hate her, or hate to love her? She and Odessa Avery went to school together. The two were both sorted into Gryffindor and became fast friends, sharing dreams of future careers and being in the same dorm. Through Odessa, Mystie met Melv Enfield, a man she thought would to be the love of her life. Melv was older than the girls, he was popular and smart and even became the Head Boy. He was everyhing a girl like Mystie could think to ask for, but he hardly noticed her, if Odessa was with her, as he and her were often bickering...

In the end Mystie decided that Odessa wasn't the type of girl whose company she should keep. Besides, Odessa was always stealing attention away from her and her achievements by managing to do just a little bit better at everything. There was something off about it... It, of course, had nothing to do with the fact that she was focusing on learning, while Mystie was daydreaming, absolutely not.

In later years both Mystie and Odessa would become journalist, often competing over articles. Some claim Mystie's stories were less truthful (or, as she would say, "some can't handle the truth").

She got her wish and managed to even reach Melv Enfield's attention for a little bit but sadly, he didn't see her as a long term match and broke things off. Mystie will fix it though and get him back! You just wait...

Melv Enfield | Gryffindor | Obliviator | HP WW1 era

Melvyn Enfield is Kit Enfield's older brother. Melv was raised very differently from his brother and received lot of priviledges, while Kit was mostly kept away from the society due to his blood status.

Melv went to Hogwarts in 1897, the same time as Ares Gaunt, though the two were never friends. Melv was sorted into Gryffindor and quickly became the best student of his year, to the joy of his mother and stepfather. During his time in school he was a prefect and a headboy and graduated with great promises for future career.

He was never cIose with his little brother who seemed to attract trouble wherever he went, which Melv didn't approve of. Melv was also unaware of a lot of the treatment Kit had to put up with from their stepfather while he was in school. Kit ran away from home when Melv had already moved out and the two didn't stay in contact (MeIv did check up on him couple of times in secret) until Kit visited their mother right before The Great War. Melv never saw his brother as a soldier and tried to talk him out of his plans but Kit was set on his choices.

Melv always had a special fondness for Kit's childhood best friend Odessa Avery, though it wasn't very obvious as the two were arguing about as much as Kit and Melv were. Later on he worked as an Obliviator for the Ministry. Odessa became a journalist. Melv would often bail her out of trouble she got while writing honest articles and snooping for sources.
