Watch - or join - Brisbane's River Pride Parade this weekend

A flotilla of loud and proud vessels will fly the pride flag on the Brisbane River during the city’s new River Pride Parade this weekend, as part of the Melt festival.

The new event is on Saturday afternoon (November 9), during the last days of the queer arts and cultural festival.

Led by Queensland’s Dykes on Jetskis, followed by Melt ambassador and Queen of the River Courtney Act (above), boats of all shapes and sizes will join.

On Saturday afternoon, you can join a party boat, or if you don’t have your sea legs you can watch the parade from several vantage points.

Organisers suggest the South Bank Lagoon, the Howard Smith Wharves or New Farm Park between 3pm and 5pm.

A family-friendly Pride Picnic at River Quay Green (below) on Saturday will also give you a great view of the parade.

Speaking about the “truly unique” new event, Brisbane-bred Courtney Act said the parade is “a brilliant twist on a cherished favourite.”

“Just imagine the magic as we all come together to celebrate on the water, surrounded by the beauty of the city,” the drag superstar said.

“This is truly a unique and fabulous way to honour Pride and the stunning Brisbane River.

“As I lead the river parade, you can bet there’ll be plenty of SPF beneath my makeup!”

Zuko decided to make the next Winter Solstice memorable after his and Katara's first one together lacked a certain magic.

On their first Winter Solstice together, Zuko shared a simple dinner with Katara in the Palace. Foods from her home mingled with spiced Fire Nation dishes, filling the table with a plethora of vibrant colors. He tried his best to find all of the best ingredients, and while she smiled, there was a vacancy in her eyes when she looked across the spread. Just the two of them. She assured him that she loved the thought and the food was exquisite. Perhaps too much so, he added in his head. It was made with perfection, not love. The kitchens were incapable of adding that ingredient. He knew what was missing. He knew what he couldn’t fix that night. Everyone had been so busy in that first year that there wasn’t a chance for friends. He was the Fire Lord and was busy, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t take some time away from the world’s affairs for someone who gave him his world. Even as the meal ended and they retired for the night, he began plotting. It wouldn’t be easy. No, compared to his normal responsibilities, the plan that rapidly formed that night was doomed without the most meticulous preparations. Luckily he knew just the person to contact and swore on his honor that he’d write a letter to Sokka the next morning. Early? Yes. Without reason? No. Even starting this soon he knew it was likely that everything may only line up more than a year from now. He hoped Katara was patient. He’d try.

Candy Surprise is hosting a cabaret game show for Melt

Brisbane drag star Candy Surprise is hosting her very own cabaret game show this weekend for Melt.

Melt Festival is Brisbane’s citywide celebration of LGBTQIA+ artists and allies. The 2024 festival runs for until November 10 with a huge program.

This year, Melt has expanded to numerous venues across Brisbane. From this weekend, Candy Surprise is taking over the intimate PIP Theatre in Milton for her new Cabaret Game Show as part of the festival.

Inspired by TV game shows like Taskmaster, Candy’s stage show packed with humour, music and lots of games requiring audience participation.

“The PIP Theatre is a tiny little theatre but it’s so beautiful,” Candy explained to 4ZZZ.

“We’re doing two shows. Everybody loves to watch me have a few songs but I also like to have fun with the audience.

“We’re going to get the audience to be part of the fun and get them up and playing about five or six games in each show. We’re going to jam-pack it full of games.”

Candy Surprise hosts the brilliant Balls Out Bingo

As well as Candy’s Melt show, the cabaret star and hilarious drag hostess is renowned in Queensland for her Balls Out Bingo events.

Candy Surprise tours the interactive and unpredictable events around the south-east, from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane to the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales. If you’ve never been to one, do yourself a favour.

Speaking to 4ZZZ, Candy said the sexy annual Balls Out Bingo 2025 pin-up calendar has been shot and will be released soon.

Each year, a dozen of the hunky Balls Out Bingo “ball boys” who assist Candy during the game strip off and pose for the annual calendar to raise funds for local LGBTQIA+ groups.

Candy Surprise’s Cabaret Game Show is on Sunday, November 3 from 6pm and November 10 from 4.30pm at the PIP Theatre in Milton. Tickets on sale now.

“he was permanently condemned to hell.” if you hear screaming and crying don’t worry it’s just losing my GODDAMN FUCKING MIND. OH MY GOD. KAEYA WITH RELIGIOUS TRAUMA HITS DIFFERENT. IT HITS SO SO DIFFERENT.

okay so with the blue blood thing we can just be like you aren’t fully divine yet so the blood doesn’t turn blue until. idk you die and ascend or whatever. that’s the excuse i use in my brain!

i interrupted myself. anyways. imagine if kaeya was the one to kill you. when he recounts your death, he has allll the grisly details of how you were pinned to the ground by a sword in your throat, almost the same way you’d pin a butterfly to a board. he smiles as he recalls the way your blood spilled onto the ground and the light faded from your eyes. for a moment, he even scoffs at the tears on your cheeks, remnants of the way you’d cried and begged.

and then he gets the news, and it turns out that he truly cannot do anything right. he tries to be honest and loses his family. he tries to redeem his home and dooms himself. he doesn’t bother praying for forgiveness - no matter how kind and understanding everybody said you were, there’s no way you’d forgive a sinner with your blood on his hands.

i did NOT mean for it to be religious trauma but. you have a point.

if we follow my headcanon about the blue blood—that it’s swirly like a galaxy, representative of your power—then it makes sense it manifests alongside your power, and if you blur some lines and squint we can work with that.

anyway i do think kaeya should be the one to kill (that sounds bad) and you. your words man you are so good at this-

he probably wouldn’t pray. and i don’t think, other than the first night getting blackout drunk, that he’d drink, as a form of self-punishment. no, he needs to be awake and sober to truly live through his crimes, for he would only condemn himself more with liquor.

kaeya that stops worshipping at altars or attending service, simply because he doesn’t believe that somebody like him should be in such a holy place. he never takes shifts at the cathedral, and he always takes point on the bloodiest missions. not out of enthusiasm—the sight of blood, even red, now makes him a bit sick—but out of a form of sacrifice. why put blood on innocent hands when he, somebody already sunk to the lowest of hells, can take it?
