The god of dreams. Final chapter

Pairing: Morpheus x FemaleReader

Rating: PG

Warnings: Can be spoilers to the Kindly ones

I appeared in the Dreaming again. And I hardly could recognize it. It was dark and hard to breathe now. I felt that something was wrong. I need to find Morpheus. And I ran to the castle. “Morpheus!”I called. “Morpheus, are you here?” “Miss Melory?” Lucienne came out to me. “What are you doing here?” “I came to help Morpheus”, I said. “I know that something dangerous is going on. Please, tell me what is happening”. “You need to wake up”, she said. “You can get hurt and it can make everything worse”.

“No, it was hard to get here”, I replied. “And I won’t go till I find and help Morpheus. Please, I can’t help if I don’t know what is going on”. She was silent for a few minutes and then sighed. I think she made a decision. “Furies came to the Dreaming”, Lucienne said. “They want to punish Morpheus for killing his son. They already killed some Dreams”. “Oh my god”, I sighed. “He killed his son? And now they want to kill him?”

“He didn’t want it, but it was his son’s wish”, she said sadly. “And they won’t kill him. They will drive him insane”. “No, I can’t let him happen”, I said. “Where is?” “In his chambers”, she replied. “But you can’t save him”. “I can try”, I declined and went to his chambers. I didn’t know, how much time was left before they found us or Johanna would wake me up. When I opened the door, he was there. Also, I saw the blonde man in glasses and his raven. And a child. “What is going on?” I asked. “Melory, what are you doing here?” he asked. “I told you to stay out of here”.

He was paler than before and I noticed the scar on his cheek. What the hell happened to him? And what is happening now? “And I told you, that I’m going back”, I replied. “What are you doing? How I can help?” “You can’t help”, he said. And at this moment something weird has happened. I thought that it Furies tried to get him and ran to him. And at this moment flash of light blinded me. And I felt very weird. Like I wasn’t myself anymore. “What have you done?” he asked. “I don’t know”, I said.

I appeared in a green dress, that showed my décolleté zone and shoulders. And a small green necklace on my neck. “I think, boss, the girl got half of your power”, said the raven. “What?” I asked. “How this even can be possible?” “You interrupted my ritual to pass the power to Daniel”, Morpheus sighed. “Now you possessed half of my power”. “And what about you?” I asked. “Are you half mortal now?” “I don’t know”, he said. “How did you even get here?” “I drank the potion, made out of poppies”, I confessed. “And Constantine helped you?” he asked. “Yes”, I nodded. “You left me no choice. You should tell me what is going on with you. I thought we had a connection”. “And we did”, he said, looking hurt and angry at the same time. “I just want to protect you and my kingdom”.

“You can talk to me once I find you here”, I sighed. “Do you know, how much it hurts when you don’t what is going on with the one you love”. He wanted to say something but closed his mouth. He didn’t know, so I thought. I took a deep breath in. “I was worried about you”, I said. “And I can do nothing, while you here in danger. And don’t tell you were trying…trying to what? You don’t want to die, don’t you?”

“I would become something else”, he confessed. “Maybe a dream. And we can meet in your dreams sometimes”. “Is that supposed to make me feel better?” I asked, annoyed. “Because it doesn’t work. You didn’t tell me even about that”. “My lord, my lady”, Lucienne interrupted. “I’m sorry to interrupt you, but Furies is already here. They came for lord Morpheus”. “Bad timing”, I sighed. “They shouldn’t find you”, he noticed. “And especially find out about your powers”.

“Don’t even think that I will leave you again”, I whispered. “I didn’t drink this potion to back up again”. “Stubborn human being”, he sighed and then smiled a little. “Yes, I am”, I smiled and took his hand. “Let’s face them together, as we planned. And I won’t let them hurt you”. “But you only have half power”, he rejected. I didn’t have time to respond, because the door opened and three scary women appeared. And of course, they saw me. “No dream can stand in our way”, said one of the women. “I’m not a dream”, I said bravely and desperately. “And I won’t let you harm him”.

“A mortal”, noticed the second woman. “With a power of dreams. How can that be possible? You are the Dream of the Endless and not at the same time”. “It doesn’t matter”, I replied. “You should leave”. “Dream of the Endless killed his own blood”, the third woman said. “He should pay for his crimes. He will die”. “He didn’t want to”, I said. “It was his son’s wish”. “Melory…” whispered Morpheus. “It doesn’t matter”, said the first woman. “He kills, he pays”. “No!” I said. “I won’t let you harm him. You need to kill me first, and then you will see what happens next”. “Melory, stop”, hissed Morpheus.

“Step aside, child”, said the second woman. “It’s not your business”. “I’m Dream of the Endless too now”, I replied. “Did I kill anyone?” “No, you didn’t”, they said. “But you are not him”. “I am”, I said. They went silent, as considering my words. Pity that all his power didn’t go to me. They couldn’t charge me otherwise. I hope that they will reconsider their decision, but they took a weapon instead. It was long, flexible and sharp. And I suspect made the scar on Morpheus’ cheek.

“Move aside”, said the woman. “Or you will be punished with him”. “No!” I said. “You can’t harm me. I’m still a human. You will be punished too for hurting me. And how do you even know about his son?” “Hippolyta Hall came to us”, said the first woman. “She seeks vengeance for her son”. “Do you know what she is talking about?” I asked confused. “That child is hers”, he replied. “She made him in the Dreaming and can be my successor. But I couldn’t stop her. One of mine…one witch protects her”. “Her son is okay”, I said. “You can go and tell that to her”. “He is, but Morpheus’ son is not”, she declined.

“It wasn’t his fault”, I said. “It was his son’s wish. You should know it, right? You are inhuman godly creatures should know this better than me”. They kept silent, staring at me. It was creepy. And then one woman raised her hand to hit me with her weapon. I instinctively embrace Morpheus from this and then… Nothing happened. I looked at them. “Are you truly ready to sacrifice yourself for him?” asked the woman. “For an arrogant god, who can break your heart”. “Yes”, I said. “I’m here risking my life. That's a thing about true love. I’m sure that he is worth the redemption”.

“So be it” " She raised her hand and I heard “No!” I felt pain and then nothing. When I closed my eyes and turned around, the Furies were gone. “What just happened?” I asked. “They hurt you”, he carefully touched my shoulder. “You can heal while you possess my power. And don’t you dare to do this again”. “What?” I asked. “Protect you?” “Yes. No”, he said. “Don’t risk your life. I’m not worth it. They could kill you”. “You know that I couldn’t leave you in danger”, I replied. “But why did they leave us alone after all of this?” “Your willingness to sacrifice yourself was enough”, he said and then almost fell on me. “You scared the hell out of me”.

“Now you know how this feels”, I replied. “And no. I don’t think you deserve it. But you don’t you dare to do this either”. “I don’t know what to say”, he said. “You can promise not to fight all the demons alone and not to disappear without warning”, I said. “I can’t stand a thought that you can…disappear for good”. “Everything happened so fast”, he said. “They were here and I couldn’t leave my kingdom unprotected”. “So, that’s what happened”, I sighed. “I was afraid you abandoned me. But you could come to my dream and explain”. “I didn’t want you to be in danger because of me”, he sighed. “You are an impossible creature”, I sighed. “And absolutely exhausted. You need a rest”.

A big bed appeared immediately in the center of the room. I helped him to lie down and sit next to him. He was so exhausted. “I don’t need a rest”, he pouted. “I am not a child”. “You look like the one right now”, I said. “You look like you are going to faint”. “She is right, my lord”, Lucienne appeared next to us. “You need to rest before you take a decision”. “Decision?” I asked confused. “Yes, you are our Lady now”, she said. “You can be the queen of the Dreaming”.

The silence fell on us. We didn’t think about this possibility. I didn’t even realize that I had his power yet. And so is Morpheus. “I think we all need to rest and think before we make a decision”, I suggested. “I need to return home before Johanna starts to worry. And I need to make some explanation for one of my friends”. “And I need to repair everything they broke”, Morpheus said and tried to sit, but I kept him in his place. “You need to rest”, I said. “Point. Lucienne will look after you. And I don’t want to find a ghost once I return”. “You are not going to return my power to me?” he pouted, displeased. “We can talk about it when I return”, I said. Then I kissed him tenderly. His lips were dry and yet so sweet and warm. He almost sighed on my lips, when I broke the kiss.

“We will meet again”, I said. “Don’t you dare to escape from me again”. “You have a part of my power now”, he smirked. “Exactly”, I kissed him quickly again and woke up. “Jesus Christ!” Johanna screamed. “You scared me again! What happened? You were wounded, but I couldn’t wake you up!” “You tried to wake me up?” I asked surprised. “Yes”, she said. “And I couldn’t”. “Perhaps, because I am half of the Endless now”, I said quietly. “What?” she asked shocked.

“I interrupted the ritual and part of Morpheus’ power came to me”, I said. “Also I saved him from the Furies”. “They hurt you”, Johanna replied. “It was them”. “Yes”, I nodded. “It was their warning, but I wanted to sacrifice myself for Morpheus. It was enough for them”. “You what?” she was shocked again. “Well, I didn’t believe that they killed me”, I said with an apologetic look. “Do you even remember the part that I don’t want you to die on my watch?” she asked irritated. “What if they would kill you?” “Calm down, Johanna”, I asked her. “At least I saved Morpheus. He wanted to give up his kingdom and power. And he wanted to disappear”.

“I saw something tragic in this Endless”, she sighed. “You deserve each other”. “I promised to return to the Dreaming once I assure you that I’m okay”, I said. “And I need to call my friend”. “And how do you feel with that power?” Constantine asked. “I don’t know actually”, I replied. “But at least I have access to the Dreaming now. And his librarian said that I can be the queen of the Dreaming now”.

“Holly fuck”, Johanna admitted. “And what do you think about it?” “I don’t know”, I sighed. “Everything happened so fast. We will discuss it with Morpheus when I will return”. “What an unexpected plot twist”, she said. “I would leave this power to myself”, I said. “It would give me the right to be with him. I don’t want him to be afraid of losing me”. “You are so romantic”, she sighed. “And I need to thank you”, I smiled. “Without you, I couldn’t do it. I think Morpheus is going to visit you too”. “I hope not”, she smiled. “But you are welcome, sweetheart. Alright. I will see you tomorrow then because you need time to think and talk to your friend”.

And Johanna took her staff and went away. It was unusual to be left alone. I felt a little bit tired. But I still need to call Jade. “Hey, I almost lost hope that you will call me”, she said. “It was a crazy time”, I admitted. “You can come today or tomorrow to talk. But I need to warn you: you won’t believe me”. “I don’t want to know”, she said finally. “Are you alright now? Did you find your man? Is it finished already?” “Yes, I am more than alright”, I said. “I found him. He has some…problems at home and everything is fine now”. “Good, don’t scare me anymore”, she said. “I talk to you later then?” I asked. “Okay”, she said and finished the call. Weird, first she was furious when saw Johanna and very worried. And now she doesn’t want to know anything. Maybe, Johanna knows something about it. I decided to call her. “Miss me already?” she laughed.

“Do you have something with the calmness of my friend?” I asked. “Oh?” she snorted. “She came in while you were sleeping. She thought I poisoned you. I maybe told her some truth about your whereabouts”. “And she thought it was too much?” I asked. “Exactly”, Johanna sounds very satisfied with herself. “You little demon”, I laughed. “She didn’t want to know any supernatural stuff anymore. And I am glad. I don’t know how I would explain everything to her”. “Don’t thank me”, she laughed. “Bye”.

Now I need something to eat to think everything over. What should I do with power and with Morpheus? He wasn’t happy. Finally, the night time came and I could meet Morpheus in the Dreaming. And I appeared again in the green dress. “Did you rest?” I heard Morpheus’ voice and looked at him. He looked better. Not so pale anymore. Still unearthly handsome. I couldn’t help myself and hug him. “That was my question”, I said. “But I’m happy to see you okay”. “Thank you”, he smiled and hugged me back. “I couldn’t believe that I found you away”, I said. “I missed you so much. I was so angry with you. But now I’m happy that you are alright».

“I’m happy to see you too”, he sighed. “You wanted to talk about your power that came to me”, I said. “Right?” “Yes, do you intend to keep it?” he asked. “I don’t know”, I said. “I would like to. So I can be with you. I can help you in your kingdom. But I don’t want to bind you, so you don’t need to make me your queen”. “But I would love to”, he said. “Really?” I asked surprised. “But I thought you don’t like the idea of sharing the power and the kingdom with…anybody”.

“I reconsidered my decision”, he replied. “I thought that it’s really not necessary to give up our…connection if we can I know you, and I believe that you won’t cause harm to my kingdom or me”. “I’m glad you realize it”, I smiled. “I was amazed that you didn’t give up on me”, he said. “You looked for me, tried to enter the Dreaming, found Constantine, and convinced her to help me. I’m impressed. Not so many people do that much for me”. “She was scared that I could die here”, I said. “But you deserve the effort”.

Morpheus smiled and suddenly kissed me. I kissed him back, feeling the relief that we could finally be together without any conditions. “What now?” I asked. “Whatever you want”, he said. “But I supposed that you are still partially human. So you need to wake up”. “But I will return here every night”, I admitted. “And can you visit me in my world?” “Of course, I can”, he smiled. “But first I need to fix the damage Furies made. They killed some of my dreams and nightmares”. “I can help you with that”, I said and caressed his cheek. “You don’t need to do everything alone again”. “I’m glad”, he sighed. “But don’t try to die ever again on my behalf. I won’t survive it”.

“If you promise to not try to disappear”, I said. “And don’t try to do harm to yourself”. “Deal”, he smiled. “Great”, I kissed his cheek. “Where do we start?” “I can show you the castle and surroundings”, he suggested. “Alright”, I said. “Let’s start with that”. Now I feel like I finally found myself here. And my true love. That was the beginning of the new, more interesting life I wished for. And full of love.
