So after Heir of Novron, Royce is like this promised returning deity, or at least a very central figure to a prominent religion. All that to say, Hadrian one hundred percent uses his name as a swear word to mess with him. I'm imagining some back and forths like,

"By Melborn!"

Royce glares.

"Get it? Like by Mar?"

"Yeah, I got it. Don't ever do it again if you want to live."

Hadrian, pretending to be scared by Mercy and Allie, "Great unmerciful Melborn!"

"Do you want to fight Irawondonna again? I have the authority to do that, you know. I could have three of him attack you at once."

"Royce's beard!"

"I don't even have a beard."

"Royce's scowl!"

"I think we should play a game of five fingers. That sounds fun."

It all culminates when a teenage Mercy stubs her toe and shouts, "Ow! My father!" And Hadrian splits and RUNS to avoid being stabbed.

(Allie uses the variant "Mercy's Father!" and in 300 years or so Royce has to go to the human kingdoms for a diplomatic mission or smth and he hears some random peasant use it and is mentally stomping on Hadrian's grave while Mercy smothers giggles)

Riyria Chronicles is so funny because Royce and Hadrian never set out to antagonise the church but that’s what happens. Every single time. Half the time they don’t even realise it
