I’m Learning

I’m learning that people aren’t just jealous of looks, money, power, or attention. People are much more jealous of the things you cannot see with the naked eye.

You can see the evidence of someone having money, being beautiful, receiving attention, and having power and influence.

But what you cannot see is what they are most jealous of.

I’m learning that many people are jealous of love, kindness, wisdom, intelligence, faith, equipment, mannerism, decorum, respect, and properness.

This is why you see men jealous of women nowadays, and why you see close friends or brothers/sisters in faith jealous of their own people.

They don’t.. not like you, for what is evident. They don’t like you for what they learned about you AFTER seeing what is evident. Because what is not evident is even more valuable.

Most people out here, they don’t like you because you know too much, you’re too intelligent, you’re too righteous, you’re too talented, you’re too equipped, you’re too loyal, you’re too genuinely loving, you’re too godly, you’re too well spoken, you’re too wise, you’re too strong, you’re too ambitious, you’re too innocent, you’re too proper, you’re too anointed, you’re too blessed…

You’re too much of everything they are not, or everything that they think they are not… for them to be comfortable around you.

Most people are so self loathing, that they cannot be around someone who loves themselves and others like you. They keep trying to find a flaw in you worthy of disgrace and they cannot… and it bothers them. They will pretend you are less, because you are actually and precisely abundant.

The next time you’re hated on and treated less than yourself, or falsely judged by someone only trying to place flaws on you, that you do not have, to justify their nasty disposition towards you or to justify their horrible treatment of you…

Remind yourself: they only hate you, because you’re beautiful.

Tell them: “don’t hate me, because I’m everything you’re not”

I think the splat devs have made octavio's humanoid design so vague that if they ever actually reveal what he looks like we won't quite accept it. this guy is a community effort, we shaped him from the scraps that were given to us, you can't just come here and erase everything and pretend everything's good u know

𝐚́𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚. natlan oc lore: kane. born and raised in the dead sea, kane has practiced the art of death born from flame. the region known for it's pride of war and it's victors - his constellation ánima and requires native marigold, a rare flora in a realm scorched by fire. with glowing golden eyes, he roams the sands alongside a companion whom does not speak nor has a pulse. despite his oppositional ways, he still praises the god of war, murata. before each kill he repeats the script "Surge vir fortis i natam victoriam,"  as said opponent turns to ash. pros/advantages: lethal in battle, has been to the abyss, can survive all heat and lava walk, and is brave. cons/disadvantages: is chaotic neutral, selfish in nature, has killed for mora, escaped meropide* and is wanted. kane is a tall male model with sword weapon proficiency 5 star with an ult that wields duo swords. has a pyro vision which was bestowed upon a battle as a child within the [redacted] volcano, to which he thought he had died. an anti-hero with an insatiable urge for gold and battle. // to be expanded upon.

For the non-Aussies among us: remember to SLIP SLOP SLAP SEEK SLIDE! This is an Australian government campaign that has worked on me and I am fine with that because it is HELPFUL!

Slip on covering clothing. Cover as much skin as possible. For best protection, choose: Shirts with high collars or high necks, and sleeves; Trousers or longer shorts and skirts that come to below the knees.

Slop on sunscreen. Use SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. Reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Slap on a hat. Wear a broad-brimmed hat or one that covers your head, face, neck, and ears.

Seek shade. Use trees, built shade structures, or bring your own!

Slide on some sunglasses. Sunglasses should be close fitting and worn outside during daylight hours.

My notes:

Light clothing reflects sunlight best, and will keep you cooler! Bonus if it's natural fibres such as linen and cotton, as they breathe better. Loose-fitting but well-covering skirts, sleeves, and pant legs will also keep you cooler—think traditional clothing in Middle Eastern countries. It tends to be long, loose, and pale. It's tried and true!

Remember to let sunscreen have time to soak in (~15 minutes is the ideal, but I'm not certain), and remove wristwatches, wide jewellery, or anything else that might get in the way of properly applying the sunscreen. If you don't like the smell of normal sunscreen, there are alternatives that don't smell as strong (usually marketed towards kids). Sunscreen is bloody important, don't let it fall to the wayside. Remember to get your face and the back of your neck, hands, and legs.

And remember to get polarised sunglasses. Sunglasses that aren't polarised are more likely to hurt your eyes—if they tint your vision darker, then your pupils will expand, but non-polarised sunnies won't protect your eyes from UV rays, thus making things worse in the long run. You can tell if sunnies are polarised if, when you look at a digital screen and tilt your head sideways, it goes significantly darker or black. Here's a list of ways to tell that I found, actually:

Check for a test sticker. If your sunglasses are new, look at the test tag or sticker through the lens, and rotate the lens to a 60º angle. If the tag gets darker, then you know your glasses are polarised.

Find a reflective surface. Hold your glasses so that you are viewing the surface through one of the lenses. Then, rotate the glasses to a 60º angle, and see if the glare gets better or worse. If the sunglasses are polarised, the glare will diminish.

Compare two pairs. Look through two pairs of sunglasses at the same time, and rotate one pair 60º to the other. If both pairs are polarised, the overlapping lenses will become darker. If this doesn't happen, at least one pair is not polarised.

Turn on a computer. Polarised lenses and most computer screens use the same anti-glare technology. Look through your lenses at the screen, and rotate your glasses to a 60º angle. If they're polarised, the lenses will turn black.

Assess your view. Use the polarised lens simulator below to see what your view should look like. If your lenses are polarised, glare disappears, colours brighten, and visibility becomes crystal clear.

OH ALSO. If you have darker skin or don't burn, you still need to stay sun safe!! You might not burn easily or at all, but that doesn't mean you aren't getting UV rays. Melanin will not protect you from skin cancer.

N.B.: The clothing tips are for hot + dry environments. YMMV in humid areas.

N.B. the second: You're being exposed to UV rays regardless of if it's warm or not. You can get sunburned in winter (though you're less likely to, because you tend to be wearing more clothes). It's best practice to stay out of the sun even if it's cold or cloudy.
